Make your time
I've let you hide long enough.
I guess we can talk about it if you want. |
I don't use contacts because they itch like hell, and I can't put a laser pointer on the frame of contacts at night so that the beam shines through the lens. That, and I look funny without glasses on.
|
I used to wear contacts, but then I got LASIK.
One of the best decisions I've ever made. |
LASIK? Laser eye surgery? Not just anyone can get that done right?
Shit, my country probably doesn't even have it. *checks* =O! |
Your country probably has it but I don't know how much I'd trust one of those doctors. :P
Pretty much anyone can get LASIK. I mean, unless a person has a very bad astigmatism (the eye is shaped too much like an oval), it's possible. It's an outpatient procedure: you get a pill of Valium and numbing drops in your eyes. |
I wear glasses and I'm fine with them. I can't even fathom putting something in my eye. No fucking way.
|
My eyesight is so bad that my optometrist enthusiastically suggested that I switch over to contacts. It's definitely a tradeoff from glasses in many ways. Although I see much better peripherally, they're really annoying to clean every night, carry a case for every day, and I can't rub my eyes too hard or I'll shift the position. The most annoying thing being that they seem to attract dust or hair a lot and I get a stabbing sensation that makes me "cry" more than I should.
|
I wear my glasses pretty consistently, but I wear contacts when I need to do a show. That way I can see the audience AND put on any facial accessories required :p
I'm seriously considering LASIK though. |

It was under $800 per eye when I got mine done back in 1999, but I got a deal because my mom worked for the doctor. No idea how much it costs now.
|
Eh? It's about €2,000 (=$2,500) per eye here.
Ah fuck that shit, I will go to Turkey. |
Dude, in Turkey, you could get brand new eyes for that.
|
I would *love* to get contact lenses. I'm near-sighted and being diabetic doesn't help one bit. Depending on my blood sugars, my vision can range from pretty decent (read the house numbers across the street) to piss poor (being inches away from my monitor.)
I have glasses that I'm legally required to wear, but I hardly ever do. They don't suit me at all and I don't feel like shelling out for new ones. Contacts would the best option, but they're pretty expensive too. LASIK isn't really an option. With diabetes, there's a high chance the surgery will become null after a certain time. :/ |
I wear contacts, but not very often because I can only wear them for about four hours before my eyes start feeling scratchy from them (I have dry eyes). Eye drops help, but not much. I really only wear them to functions that I have to dress up for and to work out. The rest of the time I just wear my glasses.
I'd really like to get LASIK, but my eyes are dry and my optometrist said, in a nutshell, that if you have dry eyes and get LASIK you could end up feeling like you have dry eyes forever after because of something to do with LASIK killing some of the eye's cells. I'm hoping that eventually science will bypass that problem and I can correct my vision through surgery. |

I rather like my glasses. I don't think I would get contacts - they seem like they're awfully problematic. I wear my glasses every waking moment anymore, and they're really not that annoying to push me into getting contacts.
The only issue I really have with the glasses is that I am a big sunglasses kind of person. I wear a driving hat in lieu of glasses now, when I can, to block the sun. |
The last time I had my vision checked, I had 20/20 in my left eye, and 20/15 in my right eye. That was about 4 years ago, and I fear my vision may not be so good as it used to be. But I still have pretty sharp vision and can see many things my family members who wear glasses or contacts can't, even while they wear those.
I do consider myself pretty lucky since everyone in my family has glasses aside from me. |

You might want to get a second opinion from the guy who doesn't stand to benefit from giving you eye exams and glasses or contacts the rest of your life. |
I wear glasses. I can't stand the feeling of anything touching my eyeball--eydrops are torture, the glaucoma test is worse, and my eyes sting uncontrollably when I open them underwater. The optometrist suggested touching my eyeball once a day to see if I could get used to it--I can't.
I've thought about LASIK, but frankly the procedure scares me. If I can't stand the sensation of water touching my eyes, a fucking laser seems out of the question. Not to mention the fact that LASIK has only been available for a few years--there are no long-term studies of possible side effects because no one's had a LASIK'd eye for seventy years. As Flanders said, maybe your eyeballs pop out at the ten-year mark or something. |
I've been wearing glasses for 9 years now and I've gotten used to them. However I have considered getting laser eye surgery before but I think I'm going to wait till I'm out of college or something before I seriously start looking around. Also all the incidents I see at school where some guy's contact slides out of place scares me. I don't want one of those things swimming all around my eyeball where I can't get the fucker out.
|
I don't use contacts or glasses. There is nothing at all wrong with my eyes, so I chose the somewhat ostentatious choice that is the Air Force one. Even though I don't like heights...
But if it's to put my eyes to good use, then so be it! |

Yes, I wear contacts. I wore contacts everyday from Grade nine to 3rd year University. But since last Fall I have been wearing my glasses. Mainly because there are many good looking girls I know who like me in glasses.
|
I wear contacts and have no problem with them. They're so much better than my glasses (possibly because I havent updated the prescription in my glasses). A little bit of a hassle in the morning, but they actually wake me up when I put them in because they flush out my eyes... so it works out.
|
I wear glasses on a normal basis. I have contacts as well, but they are the gas-permeable hard rigid type lenses, so for daily routines where I can potentially be at the office for 9+ hours a day, contacts aren't practical. The A/C is on cranked up all the time in the office (except on weekends, it seems) so it's really too dry of an environment for me to be wearing contacts and be comfortable with it.
Once I wore contacts to the office and by the time it was 3PM, my eyes were so dry and miserable that I opted to switch out to my glasses since I knew I wasn't going to be able to bear driving in my contacts. And the switch to the glasses was pretty annoying too, since I didn't have my suction cup thingy to take the hard lenses out. Definitely considering LASIK here as well, but I don't think my optical insurance covers it if at all. |
Contacts are a blessing for us blind people, like me. I think that everyone who is young, active, and have suitable eyes for commercial contacts should consider soft contacts as a viable solution. I don't see any excuse not to try them at least for a couple days. You just need to find the right brand and fit for you. They have never been a problem for me since I've been using them for close to ten years (wow, never realized that until now).
Switched to Alcon solution ever since the Renu scare, been using the same contacts brand as well. Didn't get around to those new contacts that allow your eyes to "breathe" better. Wore them for a month and decided the extra thickness wasn't worth the "extra oxygen". I take them off after dinner anyway. Never wanted to try hard contacts because soft is definitely cheaper and the disposibility feels cleaner. |
I've been wearing glasses most of the time (read: all of the time except when I sleep and shower) for a good few years now and I guess I'm pretty used to wearing them.
Maybe someday I'll try contacts. Maybe. I'm alright with wearing glasses. |

Contact lenses are a no. I only wear glasses for reading, meticulous handiwork (use your imagination) and computer use. Unless I can't find them, as is the case today! |
Nope, never had contacts, never had glasses. I want to get some color contacts just because. Or some custome contacts.
|
Glasses for now, I'm planning on doing that LASIK stuff (but i want to do it proper with the eye scanning and stuff), but it costs so much, so i think i'll do it when I'm older.
Glasses can be annoying though, they slip to the end of my nose whenever i do anything which works up a sweat. I thought about contacts, but my mum tried them and she said they made her eyes really dry and something about them just creeps me out... dunno why. oh and first post here on the forums (well first real post) |
I'm in the same boat as Guru--feelin' pretty lucky because my family all wear glasses and I have vision that's just fine for the time being. Also, they are all avid readers whereas I am not... I cannot help but wonder if this has something to do with it.
One of my biggest fears about being diabetic is losing my eyesight one day, and considering my poor control, it seems to be a valid possibility (though no changes in sight yet). Also, BlueMikey's post sounded exactly like an infomerical or something, and for some reason I found it highly amusing! |
I'm severely myopic (nearsighted), and have a slight astigmatism in my left eye. I'm an ideal candidate for contact lenses.
Unfortunately, due to the deterioration of my eyes, I require the gas permeable variety; they're often referred to as "semi-hard". They're a bit smaller and a lot less flexible than the conventional contact lens, which makes them more difficult to insert. I've never had a pair of the soft contacts, so I had to learn with the gas permeable sort. Unforunately, if you're not used to wearing contacts, it's like having a smoothed chip of glass in your eye and it's quite uncomfortable. They say you get used to it but I had trouble. My cause wasn't helped by the fact that I possess extremely long eyelashes, especially for a male. They often got in the way. Eventually, I sort of gave up. I wasn't able to accustom myself to the lenses and I was always paranoid that they'd slide way up and back, becoming lodged with no means of removal short of emergency surgery. I know this is an impossibility due to the way the eyeball is shaped and that all foreign objects are pushed toward the iris, but my brain kept telling me this was a convenient lie and that the optometrists were in cahootz with the surgeons. It's a shame, really. My current lenses are very thick, even with high-index reductions. They make my eyes look small and distorted when viewed from the outside. The most tragic part is that my eyes are naturally wide and expressive. Whenever I take my glasses off, people are startled by the power of my gaze, especially women. Women love my eyes. I've looked into LASIK surgery, and it's possible for me. It won't cure the myopia, but it can drastically improve my vision to the point where I can wear soft contacts or lightweight lenses. Perhaps then I'll set about my ladykilling ways. |
I wear glasses, because I don't really feel comfortable with putting stuff into my eye.
|
I wear glasses and I'm quite comfortable with them. I would never get contacts because like some of the people here I hate things touching my eyes. I don't have bad vision, but I can't see the board in my classroom from even the front row. My vision is like 20/50 and 20/60 in my eyes(I can't remember which sides though).
I probably won't ever get lasik because I like my glasses. They make me seem more like, well....me, but I've only been wearing them for 2 years. Though people say I look better with my glasses off, but I disagree.(you can see a pic in my wiki) |
I've had glasses since 4th grade, and really it doesn't bother me. I look so odd without them...or at least, that's what my friends say. Of course, they've never seen me without them for an extended period of time. I prefer myself with them, anyway.
I will never get Lasik, simply because I'm paranoid that any sort of error will permanently fuck up my eyesight -- and everything I do in life depends on my eyes. |
I'm wearing contacts right now. I've been told I have about 20/400 vision by my eye doctor. My glasses are -8.5 in strength... :( I'd love to have lasik surgery done except it is about 900 per eye.
|
I've been wearing glasses since first grade and I have to say that I don't mind wearing them at all. I think the ones I own tend to fit my general sense of style and make me look a little better (or at least as much as something can do).
I've thought about Lasik, but my eyesight is really freaking poor and I'm always scared of surgery, so I don't feel like it's worth the mental stress I'd have to go through (and how I'd still probably need a light set of glasses anyway). Is there anyone out there that wears fake glasses? My old roommate used to wear ones with just glass in them since he liked how they made him look (and I only found this out after living with him for three years). |
Yeah, ANYTHING going near my eyes gets me nervous. And, from what I hear, they don't exactly put you to sleep while they fuck around with your eyes either. Call it Lasik or whatever, but it's still a fucking LASER.
I'd do it though. I have horrible vision (near sighted). |
Nope, not a contact person, much prefer to use glasses, always have always will. Too much of an annoyance to me with contacts.
|
I got used to glasses for a couple years, then I switched to contacts and never looked back. My prescription is pretty low--1.00 in the left and 1.25 in the right, both negative.
