You gave away THAT?

Everyone (I assume) has a story of some game that they lent to a friend and never got back, or sold to EB only to regret it a few days later, and it's always some game that they know now was totally NOT a game you should ever let your hands off of, but gave it away anyway...

I have two games like that. When I was around 8, I lent my cousin (who lived in Alabama) Final Fantasy for the NES. I didn't see the guy for years afterwards, and the first time I saw him I asked about it... and it had gotten stolen from his house, along with all of his other games and systems. That game is one of those games that just should never leave any good gamer's possesion once they get a hold of it... :(

The other one, the one that I constantly cite as my worst decision ever in the history of my gaming (except calling Hoth the hardest level ever in LSW2, I'll never be able to live that down apparently) was the decision to sell Chrono Trigger for the SNES to what was then FuncoLand. At the time, it seemed like a good idea. FuncoLand actually traded games based on their value and demand, so I got a cool $100 or so for it, and promptly bought... fuck, I forget, but whatever it was it clearly wasn't as awesome as Chrono Trigger. To this day I wish I had that cartridge so I could proudly hook up my SNES and play it. It was a terrible, terrible idea.

So, now that I've bared my soul for all of GFF to see, what decisions related to gaming have YOU made that can only be classified as colossal blunders?

Inhert May 11, 2007 10:47 PM

I never really trade a game, I think I never had enough trust in my friend for those kind of thing XD

but I remember that a friend lends me his FFVII for ps1 and I really don't know how, but it just disapear from my computer room one day XD My friend was pretty mad or acted like it, because I suspect that he's the one that took it back and acted like I lost it. Anyway I said that I would buy him another copy and sadly, I didn't find any but I told him that I saw FFT. He immediately say that he would prefer FFT to FFVII >.> anyway I still bought the game (was 20$) and gave it to him and one week later I saw FFVII to sell at the same store >.< well I bought that one for me XD

at this time I'm still not sure if I really lost his game or if he took it back without warning me XD

I think it's the only time I trade a game with someone XD

Chaotic May 11, 2007 10:49 PM

Ugh, just one comes to mind at the moment. I had lent my friend a copy of Dance Dance Revolution Extra Mix. I had a gut feeling that lending it to this guy was a bad idea... Oh boy, was I right about that. <_<

He would only be borrowing the game for one night and give it back to me the next. Who would've guess he would crack the CD in that ONE night? The crack was a small crack that literally broke the CD in half. It was still playable, but certain songs wouldn't work because of the damaged disc.

Over time, the damage would just become greater to the point the whole CD just snapped in half. Since then, I would ask friend who I knew had bootleg copies of imports if they had it. To my dismay, I wasn't very lucky. <_<

I really wish I didn't lend him the that night. T_T

orion_mk3 May 11, 2007 10:51 PM

Back when my brother bought his PS2, we decided to go in 50/50 on a memory card (largely because he was short of cash at the time). I kicked in half the cost and got half the space. Which was fine until he went and lost the card. He lost a few Mortal Kombat and Sould Calibur unlockables; I lost all my FF X-2 saves (98% completion), all my Xenosaga saves (last save point in final dungeon), and more.

Needless to say, I went out and bought my own card the next day and pledged never to be so stupid again. But I haven't touched X-2 or Xenosaga since then; thinking of the sheer effort it would take to claw my way back to where I was just makes me sick.

I also once had the oppurtunity, back in '99 or so, to pick up a copy of Breath of Fire 2 at a hefty discount. That store was great (we scored copies of Chrono Trigger, SoE, BoF1, Earthbound, and Paladin's Quest for a song). I assured myself that I'd pick up the cart eventually, but the place eventually went belly-up.

RacinReaver May 11, 2007 11:01 PM

I swapped Streets of Rage 2 or 3 (the one with the rollerblading kid) for the Genesis for Base Wars and some other NES game. His family moved about a month later and I never got my games back. :(

On the other side of things I got Chrono Trigger from one of my brother's friends that had beaten the game and didn't want it any more (didn't go through the Black Omen, so he didn't find out about New Game+). I think I paid $5 for it.

I let one of my friends borrow the last disk from FFVII since his wasn't working and he wound up breaking it. I need to remember to not ever let friends borrow games from me again.

speculative May 11, 2007 11:06 PM

I kind of regret selling my copy of Klonoa. Not really, since I am 100% sure I would have only ever spent another 5 minutes in my whole life ever playing it again. So, although it would be cool to have, it would also be kind of pointless. I've learned to let go of some games like that...

Rockgamer May 11, 2007 11:26 PM

I actually let my friend borrow my NES, and somehow he "lost" it. That sounds like complete bullshit, I know, but he gave me his Playstation in return (this was back when they were still new), so I wasn't complaining. Of course, looking back now, keeping my NES probably would have been better in the long run, but this incident did help me get into that generation sooner than I ever would have had it not happen (I was way too poor back then to get a PS or N64 on my own), which is why I'm indifferent towards it.

Basil May 11, 2007 11:34 PM

Mario's Time Machine for Super Nintendo. Last year I found it at EB games for eight dollars, and since I've never played it before, hey, why not pick it up and try it out? So I do so, and then I find out what a horrible game it is. So I sold it at a garage sale a month later at the same cost as what I paid for it.

I'm regretful because, as a Mario game collector, I could have had it in my collection still if I hadn't sold it. That, and I'd like to rip the music from the game also (it has a few nifty tunes, but I'm reluctant to just convert the SPCs). And since I live in the middle of nowhere it'll be impossible for me to get it back unless I just hop onto eBay and get it there. But even that is a huge burden for me.

Chaotic May 11, 2007 11:36 PM

Ooh, another moment popped fresh into my head.

Incredible Crisis. An amazing game. I was playing it at my friend's house and since my Playstation was busted, and he had a well-working PS2, I decided to leave it at his house.

It's about a week later I decide I wanna pick it up, of course, It's nowhere to be found anywhere in his house. I looked around everywhere for it, but never did actually find it.

Since then, I haven't found a copy anywhere. I did come close, but being 13 and having almost no money at all on you, $8 seems like a lot. <_<

But I never did see it again, since the Software Etc. I found it at closed down later that year. <_<

Summonmaster May 12, 2007 12:14 AM

I am one of the worst people for this, since although I hardly had to lend any games to my friends in the past, I am an EB trade whore. Thus, I regret a lot of my trades after the fact, and my game collection never surpasses 10 the last few years.
---

Valkyrie Profile - Easily worth $100+ even still, my favourite game of all time, traded away for $20 store credit. I had beaten Iseria Queen just enough times to get an Angel Slayer and all that was left was to level everyone up obsessively. At least I can work through it again in Lenneth, but it sucks not having the original and being able to access every PWS and watch the Empress Massacre at will.

Wild Arms 3, Wild Arms 4 - My second favourite games ever traded towards some games I literally don't have anymore. I regret never challenging Ragu Ragula or taking screenshots of Maya's hidden skirt guns.

Disgaea: Hour of Darkness - Traded for $50 credit, but I wish I still had it to level up past 1042. My logic was "Disgaea 2 will keep me busy and is almost if not superior to it".

SouthJag May 12, 2007 12:35 AM

I traded in my copy of Strider 2 for the PSone to EB Games back when I found out EB even traded games (noob). Traded in a bunch of stuff and don't remember all that I bought, but I clearly remember SSX 3 being in there as well as Seven Samurai 20XX.

Fortunately, I recently found and acquired another copy. I went to help with an inventory at one of the GameStop's in my area (store managers have to do that -- inventories suck) and found the copy at his store. The case was scratched up, but for $7 I said "What the hell."

scotty May 12, 2007 12:54 AM

When I was 13 I let my friend have one of my NES systems and a copy of Mario/ Duckhunt since I had 3. That was okay, but he convinced me to let him borrow Mario Bros 2 and 3 as well. A week or two later he moved away and took them with him. I am now 17 and havn't seen him since :(

Dark Nation May 12, 2007 02:09 AM

I once let a 'friend' borrow Super Smash Bros, this was when I was 15. I'm 20 now and haven't seen his ass since, nor my game. Worst thing I've ever done :(

Kairyu May 12, 2007 02:51 AM

At least you got a hundred bucks Mo0 ._.
I on the other hand wasn't so lucky. This happened nine years ago~ I don't know how my "friend" talked me into it but I lent him my precious copy of Final Fantasy VI for the SNES. I paid quite a bit for that game too, around 80 dollars if I remember correctly. He said it'll probably take him a couple weeks to beat the game so I thought, "alright, have fun."

Three weeks went by so I decide to get a progress check on him. To my horror he said he ended up lending it to another friend that wanted to play it! I didn't know what to say after that. So I tell him to get it back to me as soon as possible. Another week rolls by so I check on him again-- This time he says his friend lost it ;_;. Of course I called bullshit so I tell him to pay me back or buy me a new copy (haha, right.) Haven't seen the fucker since. But if I saw him today I'd probably throw him across a room.

Infernal Monkey May 12, 2007 02:54 AM

In my desperate need to own an N64 to play the recently released MARIEO CART 64 and the upcoming GoldenEye (plus some other 3D platformer that had Mario in it or something), I sold off my Super NES and all its games. I SOLD TERRANIGMA FOR TEN BUCKS.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...anigma_box.jpg
;___;

Now just the cartridge by itself goes for over a hundred bucks on eBay. I haven't seen a single copy in pawn shops or whatever ever since I got rid of it. This memory haunts me. Like a ghost. I've been pretty right lending my mates games though. Worst that's happened was the instruction manual to Midtown Madness 3 went missing. It didn't matter, because.. well.. it's Midtown Madness 3.

Also ouch at

- Klonoa
- Incredible Crisis
- Mario's Time Machine (that game was rad I never figured out just what the point of it was)

Let's join hands guys. We can sing a song!

Helloween May 12, 2007 03:07 AM

Man, upon reflection i don't think i've ever given away/sold/traded a game in my life, except for once. Once i traded a Ninja Turtles game for the Gameboy Brick to my friend for a Terminator 2 game. Neither game was particularily good, but the Ninja turtles game was my very first video game. I guess it's more of a "I want it for a trophy sort of thing" but whatever.

I've had a few bad experiences loaning games to people too. I swapped my Chrono Cross to a friend for Final Fantasy IX. I hadn't finished Chrono Cross yet, and when i got it back, i found a huge stall near where i had left off. I then inspected the discs, only to find them totally scratched and beaten the hell up. I've since repurchased the game, so i'm cool in the temper now.

Same thing happened to my original Copy of FFVIII, different friend though. I never realized i'm the only person left in the world who takes immaculate care of his CDs.

Sousuke May 12, 2007 03:50 AM

I never understood how people could be so careless with their games and scratch them all to shit. D:

Anyway, I once sold a few games to a local gaming store quite a while back. I regret it, because I sold off Super Metroid and Mario RPG. There might have been another game in there but it's not really worth noting.

The worst part? I traded them in for fuckin' Yoshi's Story. Worst. Trade. Ever.

Luckily, I've picked up the SNES carts again since then. And I actually play them sometimes. :D

electric_eye May 12, 2007 07:10 AM

Mines would be Illusion of Time (SNES).

For some reason I wanted Killer Instinct (SNES) badly. I did like IOG and never got around to completing it, but it's one of those decisions I don't know how I came to. Can't remember what I traded Killer Instinct for...

I did finish it by emu but it's such a neat game... :(

Freelance May 12, 2007 09:42 AM

At my first job, I lent a co-worker my copy of SimCity 3000 (my fave SC game) and he was fired/quit/who knows days later. I told him to meet me in the lobby one time during my lunch and he never came >:|

Actually, I'm glad I did lend to that evil co-worker, because SC3000 Unlimited came out after that and if that guy hadn't stole the game from me, I wouldn't have gotten SC3KU, and that's better than the original game.

At least you could even FIND copies of Mario RPG, I've been looking for that thing for ages.

The Plane Is A Tiger May 12, 2007 12:04 PM

When my brother was in college he went on a kick selling off a lot of our old games since he figured emulator versions would be just as good. Although it was him selling them, he had to ask for my permission on SNES games due to a deal we'd made (I had rights to all SNES stuff because I'd helped buy his N64). For some insane reason I OK'd selling off Super Mario RPG and Super Metroid. Ugh. Since then I've repurchased a used copy of Mario RPG for $25, but I've yet to find a copy of Super Metroid in good shape. Well, I did once, but it was $16 and the Wii's Virtual Console had just been announced. Surely Super Metroid would be released within the first few months, right? Right? ;___;

Also, I'm not sure if I OK'd this one being sold or not since neither one of us actually remembered selling it until I tried to play it last year, but Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge for the Game Boy. I managed to replace that fairly quickly though, through a massive strike of luck at a Gamestop for $8.

Malahk Angel May 12, 2007 03:19 PM

I've had few instances of me allowing something to be traded (fortunately), but one that sticks out in my mind a great deal is Final Fantasy II (the SNES one). I traded it to a friend in exchange for Battletoads in Battlemaniacs. Really really really really bad idea. I was fortunate enough to snag another copy of it, but only in exchange for another really really bad idea. I traded Super Castlevania IV for it. Unfortunately, I've never had the opportunity to get that one back.

The Plane Is A Tiger May 12, 2007 03:27 PM

Really? I've seen Super Castlevania IV at a lot of used game places around here, usually for about $13.

Malahk Angel May 12, 2007 05:27 PM

Unfortunately for me it's not a lack of copies barring me from acquiring it, since I can always go on eBay, it's a lack of funds >_<.

Wall Feces May 12, 2007 05:52 PM

I'm always very cautious with games, but there is one game that sticks out in my mind that has gone missing from my collection-

Tomba!

If you ask me, one of the best platformers for the PS1. It's entirely possible that I let my friend borrow it, but I honestly don't know where it went. Le sigh.

My friend flat-out gave me Rez a few months ago. I wonder how much he regrets that...

Haha, seriously. I can't believe Gamestop is selling used copies of that game for $40.

Chaotic May 12, 2007 11:32 PM

I NEED TO PICK ONE UP STILL. A GAMESTOP 5 MINUTES AWAY FROM ME IS SELLING A COPY.

I must nab it before it's gone T_T

Unforgiven May 13, 2007 12:17 AM

I remember that I traded Chrono Trigger for some crappy SNES games when I was younger. My english sucked back then so I didn't really understand (French LOL). So yeah. :(

And I also had Suikoden II, Valkyrie Profile and Grandia on the PSOne. I hate life. ;_; </slit wrists>

TheKnightOfNee May 13, 2007 02:15 AM

I let my sister borrow Tomba along with a couple other games that I really didn't care about. This was about two years ago. Every time I've gone home since then, I've been unable to locate where she put Tomba, but I can find all the games like Street Racer just sitting on out. I want to play Tomba again. :(

Jinn May 13, 2007 04:05 AM

Fucking Secret of Mana. I don't even know how many years ago it was now, but I still regret not getting that game back to this very day! My brother and I lent it to a very CRAZY friend of ours back in the day and got so intimidated by his complete INSANITY that we never pursued the subject of the return of SoM.

Looking back, forgoing some LUNACY would have been the wisest choice to get this game back into our collection.

Reznor May 13, 2007 12:51 PM

I've lost tons of games/sold tons of games/gave away tons of games.

Who really cares, you beat the game already, are you really willing to replay it to put another 80 hours into it for 100% completion?

RPGs, I get rid of once I complete 100%. What else is their left to do?

I don't see why most gamers collect and horde this stuff AT ALL.

It's simple. Nostalgia.

I for one like to go back and play a game I may have 100%ed simply because the story was so good or because it was just really fun to play. Selling a game just because you've beaten it is akin to throwing a book you just finished in the trash.

value tart May 13, 2007 03:59 PM

Well, no, there are such things as used book stores. It's a similar premise, some people don't care enough about having the stuff they get be mint condition that they're willing to wait for someone else to finish using it before they get it themselves.

RacinReaver May 13, 2007 04:31 PM

I just buy used and then horde. :(

Well, selling off a book is a lot different then chucking it in the trash :eagletear:.

I guess I'm a rare breed then, since I hoard every game I buy... with minor exceptions, of course :gonk:.

Man... That hurts like you wouldn't believe. YOU REALLY WOULDN'T BELIEVE.

I've sold off a few games that I now regret selling, like Super Castlevania IV but I replaced that one very quickly. One recent one was when I let my friend Eddie borrow my first GameCube (the special edition one that came with Tales of Symphonia) and his roommate "borrowed it" one weekend and then his nephews took it to their house and the games that my friend took (both Viewtiful Joes, NFSU, Mario Kart Double Dash & Resident Evil Zero) got lost with it. I didn't really care about THOSE particular copies of the Viewtiful Joe games since my now-ex bought them for me so parting with them didn't mean dick to me and since I have NFSU on PS2, it was easy to part with too. However, MKDD and RE0 I had to go out and buy again and RE0 was a fucking Player's Choice game so I got ripped off there. I bought another 'cube and that was the end of that story. Moral of the story: NEVER LEND YOUR SHIT OUT TO ANYONE. If you mother wants your Super NES on her deathbed to give away to someone else, you say, "Mom, you gave me birth and you know I love you, but you can kiss my ass if you think you're taking my games."

As for the STUPIDEST thing I've ever done. That would be selling off my Neo-Geo. When I was a freshman in high school I bought a Neo-Geo at some hole-in-the-wall game shack with Art of Fighting, Samurai Shodown, Metal Slug (that's right... The FUCKING ORIGINAL) and King of Fighters '94 for $150. At the time the system alone was worth about $500 and with each game costing about $100 a piece used you can bet I fucking STOLE that system. However... 3 years down the line I was about to graduate from high school and needed money to buy all kinds of shit I "needed"; like booze for prom and graduation parties and my first car. So I advertised it in the paper and sold the damn system to some guy in Fresno for $650 with all the games that I had with it. In retrospect, it's easily the most astoundingly retarded thing I've EVER DONE IN MY LIFE; and that counts all my exes combined. :(

I do that now too. If I play a game I almost always buy it and if I liked it enough to buy it, I don't plan on parting with it. End of story. I remember Skills recently commented that he didn't have me pegged for a "triple-digit collection guy" when I showed him my game collection on Gamespot (hey fuck you guys, that's the ONLY worthwhile feature on Gamespot and I exploit it to the fullest) because he figured that I sold all my games when I'm bored of them, which hasn't been the case since I committed the atrocity I mentioned above. :(

Garnet May 14, 2007 11:41 PM

I've never sold any of my games and never will.

BUT,I have lent my games out to some friends and never got them back. I lent my Pilot Wings N64 Game out to a friend in 6th grade. Yeah,I never saw that game again. ;\ Then years later I found it at Gamestop and purchased it. Though turns out I had purchased the Japanese one so of course it wouldn't work in my N64. But I found the English one not long after. ^_^

And I think around 2000 I lent one of my friends my Theme Park PS Game. Never saw it again. That still makes me mad to this day. I always have urges to play it, and no other Theme Park game will do. ;\ I need to see if it's on Ebay sometime and purchase it from there.

Xhaos May 15, 2007 12:29 PM

Guess my two biggest ones were Secret of Mana, which I lent and never got back, bought another though. And Prince of Persia:Sands of Time, which I sold. I must have been delirious then.

I hate you. I've been searching that one out for YEARS.

Worst thing I ever managed to lose was when I was all wee like. I owned an SNES and had BoF and BoF 2 among others. I was all madly in love with BoF 2, and when it disappeared I was absolutely crest fallen. I sold my SNES and all my games, including FF VI, FF IV, and Lufia (obviously, I've gotten them all back plus many more, as anyone who's seen my collection knows). So I'm packing it up for the guy, and what do I find in my SNES box? Fucking BoF 2. I still have no idea how it got in there. Man was I pissed.

I'm still trying to understand what kind of asshole borrows a game and then moves without returning anything. Guess the answer is simply "a really big one". Seems to be a lot of those around. I know I'd be livid if someone did that to me.

I don't have a horror story to tell, thankfully. I've always kept everything I've bought, and everything I've lent out was returned. Mainly because most of the lending was to family, so I could hunt them down if they ever did try to pull anything. :D

Shit, ever since i got my first job, i've just been buying games off the shevles without even really thinking. I have a huge stack of games in my room i haven't even put into my PS2 yet. Hell, i even bought an Xbox game and i DON'T EVEN OWN AN XBOX.............yet (i'm buying my friend's Xbox as he's moving out, and is trying to get rid of stuff he doesn't need anymore, but he's moved out now, and now the situation is complex. He's trying to escape his parents by not giving his new address to anyone. He said he'd call me once he'd settled in, but i can see him forgetting or something like that)

One i forgot to mention was my original copy of Starcraft which i loaned to my friend. His house was then broken into, and a bunch of shit was gone without a trace, including my Starcraft. This is also the friend that ruined my copy of Final Fantasy VIII.

I guess i should also mention that i'm one of those friends that disappears with games. A number of times i've borrowed games from friends, and after a while asked if they want them back or not. I always give it back if their answer is yes, but there are a number of times they just say nah, hold on to it for a little longer. Alot of my games were actually donated, or bought for cheap off of my friends.

RacinReaver May 15, 2007 03:43 PM

Yeah, I actually got a copy of SaGa Frontier that way. A friend let me borrow it, then when I asked if he wanted it back said to not bother since there was no chance he'd ever play it again (don't think I did either).

See, I never saw any reason to trade or sell my games. Even in the old days when you never had cash, I still somehow managed to scrape together some money for that one game you really wanted.

I can smile and say that I still own everything that I ever bought. /flex

I don't think I've ever had this happen with a game I still consider a notable one. I once lost a TMNT Game Boy game to someone, but it's nothing I cry about. Meh.

Though..my acquisition of a Gamecube was the result of something like this. Some years back my older brother was visiting home and brought with him a Gamecube with Metroid Prime. He let me borrow it and a couple of months later told me that for a Christmas present I could keep the Gamecube. It wasn't until some months after that he told me that the Gamecube originally belonged to a roommate of his. :eagletear: Supposedly this guy was a real jerk and my brother took the cube and gave it to me because the guy was such an ass. Oh well, by the time I found out there wasn't much that could be done about it. :tpg:

Goldeneye, for 64. I am still extremely pissed about that, because one of the games I'd unlocked all cheats with the gameshark, and I've had a terrible history of those things *NEVER* working. I was surprised that it actually worked. Anyway, it was nice for just dorking around in single player, and great for multiplayer.

That's not too bad though, since I guess it's pretty easy to replace.

The worst is probably this: My friend gave me a NES with a few games. Had 2 controllers in perfect condition, a turbo pad (the ones with extra buttons to cheat in games where you have to tap them fast), a running pad, and an actual GRAY zapper, not the gay orange ones. My mother GAVE it to my uncle because she was getting me a 64 that Christmas, and apparantly people are only ever interested in one system at a time. My uncle never touched the thing, and it took me forever to get it back. Once I did, I was dumb enough to give it BACK to my original friend just because he wanted it back. I guess I didn't really feel ownership at the time since I didn't pay for it, he just gave it to me. Now I'm enough of a dbag to just give him the finger and keep it =/.

I ended up getting another one, with damaged controllers (ferret chewed them up, they still work though) for $20 along with almost 20 games, a few of them were actually very, very good. No zapper, but I had a guy who sold me that (orange one) and a duckhunt/super mario bros cart for $2. So extremely lucky there. I used to have that cart with world track meet though :(.

Ive made tons of stupid, stupid, stupid decisions, and not just with games, and it would take forever to go through them all. Those are the major two though.

I'm still trying to understand what kind of asshole borrows a game and then moves without returning anything.
*Raises hand*

Had this friend when I was in my freshman year. He's what my parents would later refer to as a bad influence (first influence to drinking/weed/skipping classes). During the time we hung out, I got a copy of Final Fantasy 8. He had copies of Final Fantasy Anthologies and the original Suikoden.

At this point in time, he had much better taste in games than I did, but he ended up paying for it in the end. Made a trade. I'd clear a disk of FF8 and lend it to him one at a time. I got my grubby hands on FFA and Suikoden.

To this day, my copy of FF8 is missing the fourth disk.

Probably not very much if at all since sealed copies of Rez are available for $30. They (and by "they", I actually mean GameQuestDirect) mass reprinted them along with a bunch of other titles - only Disgaea has maintained it's high price tag. Zone of the Enders (US version at least; PAL Limited Edition and the japanese box set and special editions are valuable), Gitaroo Man and Rez aren't all that rare anymore.

I think one of the kids down the road still has my gold OOT cart. I'm not sure which one, but everyone knows it's mine. It'll be passed around for generations, the sacred treasure of West Busselton. It's been about 6 years since the game has lived at my house.

Winter Storm May 17, 2007 07:42 AM

I gave away my saturn and all my games for 20 bucks.

Years later I regret doing that. I miss playing Panzer Dragoon and Virtue Cop.

When my Friend purchased a Super NES I let him borrow a few of my games, a few years later he decided to send only half of them back to me because he believed to have purchased the other half. Among those games he "purchased" was Super Mario All Stars, which then was the best game I had and Starfox. I know this isn`t giving them away but it sure felt like it in the end.

That's the worst I've seen here. My condolences

This has happened to me twice. (1) I traded in No One Can Stop Mr Domino and Parasite Eve for something I don't remember. (2) I sold my Neo Geo AES (with Samurai Shodown 2 and KOF '96) and my Neo Geo CD (with Sonic Wings 2 Special, Samurai Shodown 3 & 4, Last Blade, Samurai Shodown RPG, and Final Romance) for some lower than expected amount.

Ever since that last one I've decided never to sell or trade in a game, until I run out of space.

I was always deathly afraid of losing my games. Any of them. I did make a blunder of a trade by trading Secret of Mana for San Fransisco Rush 64, which was a good game for the time but not a very deep game by any stretch of the imagination. I lament that decision.

At th time, my best friend left for San Francisco when I was around 9, and he left Bionic Commando over at my house by accident. I really didn't like the game at the time but its since grown into one of my favorites and is especially neat because the game reminds me of him. (I wonder what he's up to these days?)

Sword Familiar Jul 9, 2007 05:06 AM

I lent Super Mario Bros. and Kirby's FU***NG Adventure to a girl in my ex corridor and went back home over the summer. When I got back, the bitch had moved(!) and "forgotten" to give the games back to me. I never saw her or the games again. I'm still dreaming of meeting her somewhere so I can tell her off. Fucking thief.

Dizzy Jul 9, 2007 06:28 AM

Last year I gave up almost all my N64 games which were a pain in the ass to get: Paper Mario, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Mario Party 2 & 3, Mario Tennis, Perfect Dark and many more. Most of the games that i sold were kinda hard to get (at least here).

I was so desperate on getting a Ps2 that my mind went blind for some time. I was thinking: "Well, I can still play them on the Wii when they're available"
STUPID RARE THAT WON'T RELEASE THEIR GAMES ON THE WII!!

I'm still enjoying the PS2, but I don't think there was need for such a sacrifice. I miss Pefect Dark =(

I wasn't THAT stupid though. I kept Goldeneye and Snowboard Kids which are games that we still play every weekend.

UltimaIchijouji Jul 9, 2007 08:36 AM

I lent my copy of Katamari Damacy to this girl I was crazy for, and now we don't speak anymore. She also has some of my manga. I'm going to college soon and she's in China so chances are I'm never seeing any of it again. I hope I can find another Katamari Damacy copy though.

Besides that, I went to my other house for the majority of this year and last, and there were still people living here. I took some of my games with me cause of PS3, but when I came back I was missing 9 games. Its not really lending and trading as much as being stolen from (I looked everywhere). So thats 9 less games I own.

(Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive 3, HALO, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, Super Mario Sunshine, Skygunner, Virtual On: Marz, and Dragon Ball Z Budokai)

Does it count if I'm not actually the one who did the giving-away?

As a kid I had a C64. Tons of classic games, including a hacked version of Gyruss that let you specify up to 255 lives when you booted the game (any higher than that and the addressing problems were masked by a hilarious error that said "There are limits to all good things.")

Well, every mom knows that computers are just for playing games. So, when I got my Genesis for my 8th birthday, I didn't need that silly old Commodore anymore. Sold. Garage sale. $15.

It wasn't until much later that I realized the true horror of what she had done.

Similarly, for a while we had a (crappy) old IBM PS/2 with a (decidedly not-so-crappy) IBM Model-M keyboard. Got rid of the whole shebang when we got a (turned-out-to-be-just-as-crappy-god-damn-I-hate-Celerons) HP Pavilion with an (also-crappy) HP "Too goddamn many media player buttons" keyboard.

I need to mod a Model-M keyboard to connect to a C64. That would be pretty badass.
