Saaawnic Rush Adventure

Quote:

SEGA Europe and SEGA of America today announced the development of Sonic Rush Adventure for the Nintendo DS. Sonic Rush Adventure will seamlessly utilise both screens of the Nintendo DS to navigate the high seas in search of pirate treasure, delivering Sonic's classic high-speed 2D gameplay in the ultimate Sonic handheld experience. Developed by SEGA Studios, Sonic Rush Adventure for the Nintendo DS will be available in Autumn 2007.

Sonic returns to the Nintendo DS in an all-new frantic adventure complete with dizzying dives, near vertical curves and brain twisting loops. Sonic Rush Adventure will retain the DS action that fans loved so much from Sonic Rush, as well as providing a new high seas adventure where Sonic clashes with ruthless pirates. Players will set off from Windmill Village as Sonic and blast their way through seven action-packed and widely diverse levels. Sonic Rush Adventure will make full use of the DS Download Play feature and Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, which enables gamers to compete with friends in wireless racing and mission-based battles.

Players will speed through action stages to uncover valuable items and materials which all Tails to build new ships to help Sonic discover the high seas. With a fleet of up to five ships, including a submarine, water bike and hovercraft, Sonic Rush Adventure uses the Touch Screen technology in exciting new ways. Use the Nintendo DS Stylus to help control vessels as they race across the ocean gathering rings, performing tricks, and torching pirate boats, whilst engaging in fierce ship-to-ship battles. At the end of each level, epic 3D boss battles spanning both screens will test gamers skills to result in an ultimate showdown with the evil pirate, Captain Whisker (laffo).

Sonic Rush Adventure allows players to bounce, fly, swing, ride and run through grand environments of lush forests, an ominous ghost ship, snow covered mountains, pirate villages and a vast underwater sea cave. Along the way there will be a variety of enemy characters to battle against including robots, skeleton warriors, pterodactyls, and a robotic triceratops.

So it seems to be Sonic and Tails only, which is good, and it's online.. but.. controlling hovercrafts and subway sandwiches? Oh man, that could be a mess if they break up the platforming too much. Who the hell is Sega Studios these days? The Shadow team? Please reduce the bottomless pits of doom in each level by at least 95%, love Infernal. Also I wonder if the Jet Set dude's doing the soundtrack again. RIGHT THERE, RIDE ON. :]

THE POWER OF WATER Apr 16, 2007 11:18 AM

Sonic Rush... Adventure? What, have they run out of game titles, so now they're just going back and combining their old ones?

COMING SOON: SONIC ADVENTURE HEROES RUSH BLAST AND THE TRIPLE TROUBLE SECRET RING RIVAL RIDERS BATTLE R

I also like how it looks worse than Sonic Rush. Where'd Dimps go? They actually managed to put together a decent game. Hopefully this will be playable too. :(

SuperSonic Apr 16, 2007 11:21 AM

This is sounding like another Sonic and the Secret Rings type story. Why isn't Eggman the bad guy anymore?! Sonic Rush got it right, why do we need a boss like Captain Whiskers?

However, the gameplay sounds promising.

Kesubei Apr 16, 2007 02:54 PM

SEGA Studios is the former Sonic Team USA, developers of Sonic Adventure 2. It's led by Takashi Iizuka, who created the Sonic Adventure series and Sonic Heroes. I hear they're the ones developing the new NiGHTS.

Sonic Rush turned out good, so maybe this one will as well. I don't know.

Is Hideki Naganuma involved? That's all I care about, really.

Infernal Monkey Apr 16, 2007 06:30 PM

Sonic Heroes? Oh nooooo!

I'd support that, just to see them fit it all on the box AND have Sonic in his typical tough guy/pansy 'caught in the middle of a dance' pose.

Because Sega's lost the plot. ='D PRESENTING CAPTAIN WHISKERS.

What a dashing robot, he sure doesn't resemble a classic villain!

SuperSonic Apr 16, 2007 10:15 PM

Here's to hoping that it's just another one of Eggman's creations or possibly Eggman himself under that robotic armor. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

Alright, now it's starting to sound more promising. I loved the Adventure series and while Heroes didn't match up to it, it was still a good game. I want to say it's in good hands, but I'm not sure.

Probably won't be hearing any Crush 40 this time around, either. Damn.

Gawd I hope not, Death Egg was bad enough as it was, nevermind thowing in abother 3 acts into it.

Jonathan Ingram Apr 17, 2007 08:27 AM

Sonic Heroes is as close to I've gotten to getting everything I wanted in 3D Sonic (running around REALLY fast with decent level design), so I look forward to this.

Sin Ansem Apr 17, 2007 01:35 PM

Wait wait WHAT. WHAT?

I come home to see this!?

Villain disturbingly similar to Eggman, 2-D gameplay possibly broken up by submarine gameplay and the team behind this is Sega USA OH GOD NO THE FIRST 2-D SONIC FAILURE?!

*weeps*

Torte Apr 17, 2007 07:38 PM

The graphics look crap. The water surfing bits might be cool, like they were in Crash 3 yeah? As long as 'adventure' is part of the title, this game is probably destined for failure...

Hopefully because they're throwing the character design in the bin!

Not until they have one to represent EVERY ANIMAL.

PLacing bets for Gumbuzzo the Giraffe in Sonic Rush Adventure Shuffle DX

FatsDomino Apr 24, 2007 01:26 PM

A giraffe grinding forever sounds hilarious actually.

SuperSonic Apr 24, 2007 02:56 PM

I'm not at all surprised about a new character coming in to play. They've been doing it since the Genesis days, but a raccoon? *sigh* I really don't see it happening but somehow a few Super Mario Bros. 3 fanboys are already going to be pissed about this. 10 bucks says she'll be able to fly.

That was their Secret Rings promise, and that took all their willpower, like giving up smoking! So now they're back on track to fresh new faces!

Old school-style robots YES.

Infernal Monkey Jul 9, 2007 09:38 PM

Infernal bumps another dead Sega thread today coz kksjfsjkfs Gameplay video. Looks and sounds just like the first which is good. Hopefully there are less pits of pitty doom. Still no sign of that stupid new character that's already a HENTAI SUPERSTAR.

"One Piece motherfucker, One Piece"

Tortalius Jul 9, 2007 10:32 PM

i'm scared for this game. so very scared. I mean bad title, one piece knock off.....no superflous characters though....

Sin Ansem Jul 9, 2007 11:13 PM

One Piece knockoff? Sonic needs more crazy Gomu Gomu no/Gum Gum antics and Devil's Fruit before that happens.

Lovin' the bosses. And the level themes. Sonic CD and Advance 3 just might have something challenging them for most unique feel....

But I'm holding reserves on gameplay until it's in my hands when it launches two months from now.

He's not joking. I've seen things. Terrible, horrible, things that no man should see. Sonic fans are a strange and bewildering breed my friend. :(

Sidebar: I really hope this game is good. This will be the first 2D Sonic game Sega's developed themselves in years. Now that Dimps is gone, I really hope they don't screw this up. Seems like they're following Rush 1's formula which is a plus. Music seems nice BTW.

I love how they've milked as many Dragonball references as they can, so now they're gunning for One Piece. :P Way to be original Sonic.

Dude, they were doing horrible things to Midna almost immediately after the first blurry screenshots came out. They don't even wait for the actual game to come out these days - they fap it to the concept art now.

FatsDomino Jul 10, 2007 08:13 AM

And I wouldn't have my Internet any other way. God bless 'em.

http://www.sega.com/gamesite/sonicrushadv/

Official site up.

Music's not bad (hate the second track though on the site, wish the boss theme was up), slightly more mellow than the first, but still wacky and Naganuma like.

Marine, which is the new raccoon, is an Aussie chatterbox -_-

Gameplay looks just like Rush, which ain't bad tbqh.

http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/6...etoflavua8.png

Bonzer? Bonzer?! Sega sure went back in time for that one!

Dubble Aug 18, 2007 10:27 AM

What the hell does bonzer even mean?

You wacky australians and your crazy slang moon language. Also, I don't think Ken would appreciate you cooking shrimp on his plastic doll girlfriend. 8(

SuperSonic Aug 18, 2007 04:46 PM

I guess Cindy was a little too normal of a name like Amy so they change it to Marine. Bonzer? Damn, I haven't heard that word since Rocko's Modern Life.

Agreed...hope they left the special stages untouched. Easy to find, easy to try multiple times, and a little challenging in the actual stage. They messed that up with Advance 2 where you had to find 7 special rings/emblems and then take your shot at the special stage.

They'd melt into her and she'd become some half woman half sea creature combination fried rice! Also bonzer is like 'great!' except.. confusing. ;_;

Some VERY early reviews are in

EGM: 7.5, 7.0, 7.0

http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/b.../sonicrush.jpg

ONM(Official Nintendo Magazine)
Score:92%
Review:
http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/4...nmscan1tc7.jpg
http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/6...nmscan2tr4.jpg

GM(Game Master)
Score:88%
Review:
http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/3...srascanza7.jpg

Jacked from Gfaqs/SSMB.

The gameplay from the main parts is solid, but nobody can agree on what's wrong (other than SHITTY NEW FRIENDS ARRGH). EGM is lolfail for being stuck in 1994 (well, EGM is lolfail in general, so that means nothing), but the other guys note that it could be too easy, some don't like the adventuring while others really dig it.

So far, it looks like SR fans get even more awesome, while those who hated Rush, well... why are you even here in the first place?

Sin Ansem Sep 5, 2007 12:07 AM

Sup guyz.

Main website's updated with a video

IGN: Sonic Rush Adventure Trailer, Videos and Movies

IGN has some too

Infernal Monkey Sep 5, 2007 12:20 AM

Good to see EGM's still dedicating as little space as possible to actual video game reviews. I bought one issue years ago out of interest, only to discover big name game reviews got one page at the most, while the rest of the magazine was littered with adverts for jellybeans and shoes.. with jellybeans!

Sin Ansem Sep 6, 2007 10:03 PM

=TSS= Welcome to the Sonic Stadium > Home

They've got a new trailer up. Bosses look epic

Maybe we don't have a failure on our hands, mirite?

Infernal Monkey Sep 8, 2007 06:34 AM

IGN's UK review is up. 9/10. Which is pretty much what they given every portable Sonic platformer over the years I think. =') Sounds good though, apparently the level designs are really good (less pits of doom?) and the 'adventure' bits don't drag things down too much. And unless I'm reading things wrong, there's two player races to the finish.. online?

game_dragon1 Sep 13, 2007 01:15 AM

looks like sonic is running the high seas! -laughs at bad joke-

Sin Ansem Sep 13, 2007 09:50 PM

I hear it's out in the UK and a few US spots have broken street date.

Wonder when the soundtrack's coming out...

Conan-the-3rd Sep 15, 2007 05:35 AM

Did they ever release Sonic Rush's soundtrack?

Sin Ansem Sep 15, 2007 09:12 AM

Yes they did, though likely not in America. Likely same deal here.

Sin Ansem Sep 19, 2007 07:08 PM

Arrr me mateys. I finally got me hands on this game.

Nice. The levels look nice but are on the easy side. The adventure/island surfing isn't bad at all, unless you're a 1994 purist, in which this game is a really big 'fuck you'. I kinda like that trend personally. Too bad it's easy...

...until you start playing the bosses. It's defaulted to easy, so at first they're not threatening. Then you set it to normal, start taking missions and OH MY GOD WHERE DID MY RINGS GO

Overall a nice experience so far, but I want to get further in.

SuperSonic Sep 19, 2007 08:56 PM

This game has a touch of the original Sonic Adventure to it and that's not necessarily a bad thing. I like the levels and the bosses, the sailing parts are pretty fun and it makes a nice use of the stylus. So far so good.

Sin Ansem Sep 19, 2007 09:54 PM

Yo Supersonic! Interested in ripping the soundtrack? (Heard you have to beat the game for it plus some missions but it's there.

Elixir Sep 19, 2007 10:29 PM

Is the soundtrack done by Hideki Naganuma like the previous one?

Sin Ansem Sep 20, 2007 07:08 AM

Actually... no.

Mariko Nanba and the usual crowd pseudo-emulate his style.

Elixir Sep 21, 2007 02:52 AM

Well fuck that then.

FatsDomino Sep 21, 2007 02:42 PM

o elixir u~

So guys who have played this game... how does it stack up against Sonic Rush? =o

SuperSonic Sep 21, 2007 09:02 PM

Some of the bosses on here are just amazing. The one that's impressed me thus far is this whale boss where you have to hit the weak spot on his head, then you have to go inside of his body and hit the core.

Sin Ansem Sep 21, 2007 11:14 PM

Yeah, bosses in this game >>>>>>>>>>>>>> bosses in Sonic Rush

And despite it not matching Naganuma's style, the music fits the tone of the game this time! (reminds me of my eternal struggle of being one of the few who prefers the American Sonic CD soundtrack to the international one)

Infernal Monkey Sep 29, 2007 06:17 AM

I love the music in this game! It's the closest it's been to traditional Sonic-y type music in years. Everytime Marine talks I feel so awkward, nobody EVER says 'SHE'LL BE APPLES' here. YOU CAN'T BE AN APPLE! The Wave Race sections are dumb, but not nearly as dumb as I thought they'd be. I lol'd that the game starts with a tutorial on how to make Sonic run and jump. Tricky stuff for sure. The actual platforming levels kick the shit out of the first Rush game. They flow even better, and you can feel like a cool cat when you do gnarly radical wicked tricks in the air and land on a rail or something. Also, less bottomless pits. Pretty great stuff, eight thumbs up.

Also before I bought this, Miles was telling me about how the boss music said "FUCKIN' " over and over, and now that's the only thing I hear whenever I fight a boss. ='D

Rotorblade Oct 1, 2007 09:05 AM

Concerning the Japanese version of Marine the Raccoon, she apparently spoke in Kansai-ben and the localization writer decided to go with Australian as a form of making a connection english speakers could identify with. Paraphrasing here, the Japanese immediately recognize where a person who speaks Kansai-ben hails from, so he decided to go with Australian since we all know you Aussies by ear apparently.

He went with 2 Australian speaking contacts for help writing Marine's dialogue. WHY ARE YOU PEOPLE HORRIBLE, INFERNAL! SOLD OUT BY YOUR OWN! Localization guy claims that the character was as annoying in the Japanese version as she comes off as in the English version. Apparently if Marine is soul injuringly annoying, the man did his job.

Aside from Marine making me want to destroy myself, the game is tops.

Infernal Monkey Oct 1, 2007 09:19 AM

Too right? Strewth, if I ever find out the flamin' dingos that were responsible for that wally meat pie of a Skippy the Bush Kangaroo dialogue, I'm gonna say 'G'day mates', take them on a walkabout, then deck the buggers with me... umm.. bronzed.. Vegemite.. apple, something!
