Phoenix Wright 3: Trials & Tribulations

http://www.forums.court-records.net/....php?f=3&t=961

Hey look I made a thread about a rumour! I dunno, though, it looks like it could be valid from the sound of things, and considering Capcom were holding a "contest" to "convince them" to localise GS3, it was kind of an inevitability.

Either way: YAY. I only just finished PW2 yesterday and I'll be over the moon if this is true - Mainly because it paves the way for GS4 to get a release outside of Japan.

So, yeah, here's to Autumn this year.

kensuke Apr 12, 2007 05:42 PM

Japan is also receiving a compilation package on DS that contains a summary of all the games, in depth analysis of the cases, and also all the bgm from all the games. Let's hope that becomes available in English as well!

I think it's being packaged with the limited edition of the latest PW, but hopefully it'll be available separately.

Kesubei Apr 12, 2007 08:50 PM

This is good news, but it seems to me that people are more excited than they should be. I don't know how well And Justice For All sold in the US, but I was under the impression that it didn't fail so badly that it destroyed any chances of part 3 coming here.

Torte Apr 12, 2007 10:08 PM

Yeah you knew it was coming, but with all the hype & news surrounding GS4, the announcement just sounded so much more sweet.

Muzza Apr 12, 2007 10:23 PM

I was wondering when this would be posted here :D I've been keeping up to date with all new information regarding this rumour. It would seems that if any official announcement's going to be made, then it'll be Friday morning (US time). It's really be great if it were true, but I'm not getting my hopes up at all; it's still a rumour to me.

As for the title of the game "...Trials and Tribulations", I really like it. That makes it sound official enough. =O

Additional Spam:
Aaand...it's official. Linky. I'm glad that it's getting localised; I honestly would've rather gotten this than the fourth, which we're pretty much getting anyway, one would hope.

I'm also glad that they didn't change Godot's name. Oh yeah, here's the trailer which showcases Mia's "Objection" voice... I think they could've done better, myself.

I just watched the preview advertisement for PW3 and I'm completely pumped! Can't wait for it to come out.

EDIT - Oh great, didn't realise Muzza already linked to it (different site though)

The_Griffin Apr 14, 2007 12:34 PM

What I *really* wanna know is if there'll be an extra case.

Doesn't matter though... I am *so* buying this. Phoenix Wright <3333333

Chaotic Apr 15, 2007 03:48 PM

On top of the five in existence? Insanity!

But I can't wait for this either. I just have to finish PW2 for the second time. I beat the Japanese one I borrowed from a friend, now I just need to beat it on my own version. T_T

There shouldn't be, unless they were going to explain what happens to
Spoiler:
Poor Phoenix that results in him turning out the way he did in PW 4
but then again
Spoiler:
PW 4 already explains what happened and goes more into detail, as the entirety of PW 4 is actually revolved around Phoenix.

It's great that we are finally getting 3 though, but then again it was expected because they at least have to finish the kurain storyline, would suck if they just abandoned it =(

I wonder if they will release 4 later on too? 4 is doing pretty badly in Japan (regarded as the worst game in the PW series) but it still outranks 2 among fans (3 is the best, followed by DS version of 1).

Elixir Apr 15, 2007 11:41 PM

I saw the trailer via kotaku yesterday and it looks great. I haven't played through the second game though (haven't gotten around to it) but maybe I'll make a start.

Oh, Mystic Mia. How hot you are.

This is good news. More of these games please, Capcom.

Well...

Spoiler:
Not sure if this is a spoiler or not, but I heard the game was more about Ryu (Phoenix) than the new guy.

Hopefully they'll release it here since the 3rd one is regarded as the best one of the series... But if they do, my question is, what are they going to name the series since Phoenix isn't the main character anymore?

They'll probably just stick with the Ace Attorney part. I mean, look at the box art for the second game. The words 'Ace Attorney' are on there larger than the Phoenix Wright part.

Yeah I mentioned that in one of mine:

Severe Gyakuten Saiban 4 Plot Information:
The basis of Gyakuten Saiban 4 is to get revenge for Ryuuichi, due to being purposefully wronged between Gyakuten Saiban 3 and Gyakuten Saiban 4 by Kirihito Garyuu - Odoroki's mentor. Kirihito set Ryuuichi up with some fake evidence to use in a trial, and the courts found out about it and revoked his law badge. Ryu wants justice to occur, so the whole game is about getting little details here and there to finally give the justice he deserves by use of the new Mason and Jury system which are just for the final case. The new Mason system shows the "truth" to occur, that is to say it has recorded everything that has ever gone on with a person, past or present (false time travel, sup), and it capable of revealing the information to others. It is the use of this information that will tie up the ends of the plot and let you choose your destiny (well not really, pick the wrong verdict and game over) with the new Jury system that pretty much lets you pick whatever verdict you think should be given. No need for critical evidence presentation, just scroll through the text and vote.

Despite not being the main character, the entire game is about him. Odoroki is just the means of doing so, because of what happened. Capcom wouldn't let Ryuuichi just die off like that!

They will still probably call it Ace Attorney, but that is probably due to what is mentioned above.

Speaking of the third game, it truly is the best game in the series. I can't think of many games that require you to remember some insignificant (yet important) details from the previous games in order to figure out the big picture.

Koff99 May 10, 2007 07:30 PM

I wanna know how Phoenix became a lawyer , I'm on fire Can't wait! XD

Soluzar May 10, 2007 08:00 PM

Looks like I need to hurry up and play PW2. It's been in my pile of things to play for way too long...

Elixir May 17, 2007 01:00 PM

If anyone cares, the US release is apparently hitting in September.

Damn, I'm excited now, I really need to pick up Phoenix Wright 2....played the first 1, and was hooked right from the first case. Hopefully the second is no different and the third is even better.

Kesubei Jul 16, 2007 12:50 AM

The music in that trailer just screams "QSound."

Also, the graphics looked smoothed out a bit. Were they changed just for the trailer, or is that how the characters will look in game?

Torte Jul 16, 2007 01:38 AM

^ Changed for the trailer of course. My buddy who reads tells me that 3 is the best of the trilogy as well, and I take his words with more weight than most online sayers. So yeah, can't wait! Import a gogo!

Eh. I didn't think the second game was as good (no bonus case, boo), but it's worth playing through for the last case.

Muzza Aug 20, 2007 06:07 PM

OBJECTION! BUMP LOL

So, the rom's out now. Anyone given it a go? I will sometime today. (and yeah there's an English option)

Additional Spam:
Man, I just finished Case 1. Awesome stuff. Dhalia's a bitch, btw.

And lol @ Payne losing his hair. And lol @ Grossberg: "During the verdict, I thought my hemorrhoids were going to explode like Mt. Vesuvius!"

surasshu Aug 21, 2007 06:59 AM

Man, this game is freakin' sweet. The second case has me scratching my head already, and the characters are extremely uh, colourful.

Spoiler:
I do hope that Edgeworth will appear later though! And I don't mean as a suspect or witness. Also, it's a little annoying at times that really obvious stuff isn't noticed by the characters right away. Come on, I can see the paint on the box, it's right there. Especially since you're walking around with Maya and Pearl AND Phoenix, and these three brainiacs can't even use their combined intellect to add up nothing.

The new music all over the place is neat too, it seems like they put quite a bit more effort into this game than Gyakuten 2. ALSO! I can't shake the feeling that the translators are having a lot of fun with this game, with all the "I've been fooled agaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiin" and stuff like that.

Here's to hoping Gyakuten 4 DS is gonna get an English release soon!

Torte Aug 21, 2007 08:15 AM

Fck, if only I wasn't so pulled away due to the frickin revue, I would've got up to case 4 by now. Ah well, there's always (the day after) tomorrow. The hemorrhoid jokes got pretty intrusive I reckon - apart from the inflammatory comparison to lawyer spirit which was pretty lol, but not quite a rofl.

surasshu Aug 24, 2007 07:00 AM

I finished the game in like 3 days, with maybe 2 hours of sleep in between. Man, this is one incredibly well-written and awesome game. Love it so much.

Spoiler:
I thought the final case was a good end to the whole series, it sort of put the whole series in perspective. I can see why they wouldn't want to release another game with Phoenix in the lead role--how do you top that final case? I'm guessing that at some point in the future, we'll hear more about Phoenix's post-GS3/T&T adventures, though I've heard that GS4/Apollo Justice doesn't elaborate on it all that much...

Anyway I think it tied up pretty much all the loose ends and it made me feel really good, so yay! :33:

Now to wait for Apollo Justice!

PunyPeon Aug 31, 2007 01:32 AM

Wait how did you even play the game when it was released on August 23rd.. unless you played the GBA version. But anyways this game really is good, I've already read spoilers on GS4 and the story revolving around Phoenix is quite intriguing. Can't wait to play it once it gets translated and shipped over to NA and also rumors on GS5 coming out, gonna be fucken sweet.

Torte Aug 31, 2007 04:17 AM

I thought the final case wasn't that good... it was just a tad too stretched out and forced, not to mention totally far-fetched. My faves from each instalment now stand as 1-4, 2-2 and 3-3 -> that was just a perfect crime drama, not too long or short, and making perfect sense all throughout.

Lots of memorable quotes, though.

Spoiler:
Of course the victim was flying through the air!
You can see it right there in the sketch!
... Whooooosh!

Japanese version has a full, final English translation. People are playing it either by importing or downloading.

I want it.

I only played the first one for DS, was the 2nd one any good? [I know its off topic .__.]

Yeah I imported the DS version, with fast shipping! Flying it over, WHOOOOOOOSH! Honestly, I don't know how it got here so fast. But I'm not complaining.

The second one is generally seen as the weakest of the trilogy, but I actually really liked because it has some very dark themes, and sweet music. If you didn't play it, I don't think you'll truly appreciate what's going on in GS3, at any rate.

FatsDomino Aug 31, 2007 11:53 PM

Preordered an hour or so ago. I was so happy when I preordered the first game from Capcom's website. =)

=D!

(When you preorder AA3 from the Capcom website, or so I hear. Looks like I'm buying this game again!)

Sakabadger Oct 24, 2007 09:03 PM

Just a notice, if you preordered the game at Gamestop (physical store) prepare for the possibility of utter disappointment.

Went in today to pick up the game and first the employee had no clue what game I was talking about and second he didn't pull out a keychain to hand over. I asked about it and apparently they only received 2 of the preorder bonuses and those were already gone by the time I got in. So now I'm left with just the game. While the game is the most important part and I am eager to play it, I hate not getting what I paid for (no sense preordering otherwise). Blegh, limited supply be damned.

But if you ordered from Gamestop (online) or Capcom then apparently you get the bonus anyway. Yay for you! :(

Rockgamer Oct 25, 2007 12:41 AM

My laziness paid off for me in the end. I waited all the way until last Saturday to finally go and preorder the game, and when I did they only had one plushie left, and he went ahead and gave it to me then. Honestly, it's nothing special, but it is nice to have in addition to the game.

Chaotic Oct 25, 2007 12:50 AM

I'd love to get the plushie, but I already own the import. :(

Lacerta Oct 25, 2007 01:04 AM

It's more of a key chain than an actual plush. Actually no it is a keychain.

It is squishy though.

I'm still waiting for my order to come in from Capcom... I pre-ordered it two months in advance and it's backordered.

I feel both good and bad about that, actually.

Same fucking here. :\ Sigh. I'm hoping on an email from Capcom that its shipped. Some random dude actually got one a few hours AFTER the email that it was backordered.

I just pray it doesn't take THAT long to get here.

Angel of Light Oct 27, 2007 08:46 AM

I just picked up the game as well, and I didn't get the plushie either.

Oh well, whats the sense in pre-ordering if you don't get the extra bonuses that come with it. Its not the first time I've been disappointed by getting a pre-order and it certainly isn't going to be the last either.

If I really want the plushie that badly I'll eventually get it off ebay.

I've been playing the game so far, and I already through the first case. So far the game has been pretty good.

I liked the fact:

Spoiler:
You got to play as Mia Fey for the first case, which was wactually pretty cool. I only at the start of the second case, but the beginning was quite humorous especially after watching that guy fly through the air.

Speaking of that, I'm wondering why the hell these things are selling for so much on ebay. One sold for over twice the cost of the game, which is just fucking ridiculous.

Lacerta Oct 27, 2007 12:43 PM

I believe Capcom said if you can prove to them you did in fact pre-order the game then they will ship Mr. Wright to you in all of his tiny key chain glory.

All Gamestops//EBGames got more than enough key chains for the pre-orders. The problem is, usually the people don't bother to unpack them because they can be lazy and don't feel like opening all their boxes since they would have to stock the items.

Or they simply swiped the little dudes.

I couldn't wait, so I imported the game. And I must say that this is easily the best game out of the three. Trust me: the fourth and fifth case WILL have you crying.

Elmoogle Nov 5, 2007 03:24 PM

Just an update - Received my Objection! plushie in the mail today. I mailed Capcom customer service with a picture of my reserve receipt about two days after the game came out so this is some pretty awesome response time for a big company.

Sakabadger Nov 5, 2007 10:39 PM

Got my plushie in the mail today as well. Pretty slick, Capcom. They must be working double time to try and prevent too many fans from feeling ripped off due to low supply.

FatsDomino Nov 6, 2007 12:09 AM

I hope my plushie and game come soon from Capcom. Didn't this game come out a week or so ago? They were so good with preordering from their website before. =I

FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK

I JUST beat the first case (well it was like the 10th time since I whored out the fan translation of the game) and it tells me to save my game. Then my battery dies (it turned red but I thought it'd last for more than a half hour). Bleh, and I was all excited to play the second case. >:/

I hate when that happens.

When I was replaying the second game, I at the near end of the 3rd case. Just as the screen transitions to the save screen.

BOOM

There goes the battery. :tpg:

As for PW3, I've been done with it for months and let another friend play it, who's on the 2nd case at the moment.

nanaman Nov 7, 2007 11:08 AM

I've just started playing the game, and so far it's very good. I've got a small question though; Is there any extra missions made for the DS just like the extra one in the first game? I thought it was very good and fun to use the touch screen to search for details, and I hoped for another mission like it in the second game but it didn't have one. So does this game have one?

gamersara Nov 7, 2007 11:56 AM

there's no extra for this game
but the 4th game will be good, wonder when will they release it in English...

I was in a Gamestop just 3 days after PW3 was released and the two employees were discussing what to do with the one Phoenix Wright keychain left. One of them was actually about to throw it away because it was weird. Unfortunately the other employee "grudgingly" said he'd take it, and then refused to give it up when I told them I actually wanted it.

Bastards.

Trance Machina Nov 8, 2007 07:09 PM

The Third Case:
Oh god, I totally did and didn't expect Mr. Armstrong when he popped up. PRICELESS

Sakabadger Nov 8, 2007 07:55 PM

Beat the game the other day. Last case was EPIC, like usual. Sucks that the 4th game in the series moves on from Phoenix, but after the events at the conclusion of PW3 I guess they wrapped things up well enough. Can't wait until Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice is announced for release here!

Still, although I love the series, I can't help but be a little disappointed in this one. Not because of the game itself, but because of the release. Why did Capcom delay the game for so long? Presumably, it was to clean up the translation some more... Now that's a fine reason, but then I'd expect the lines to be flawless and that clearly wasn't the case here. There weren't any serious errors, but there were more than a few cases of the wrong word being used (such as "no" instead of "on") that any competent editor should have been able to pick up. It's not enough to prevent a recommendation from me, though it is a little jarring to read such errors during tense moments. Seriously, what was all that time Capcom took spent on? Not on making those keychains, I hope, or else that's also a little depressing.

Also, I'm no big coffee fan, but darned if I don't have a craving now.

Trance Machina Nov 8, 2007 08:14 PM

Yeah after the prosecutor, I've been craving coffee every time we takes a swig.

Also there are more "err" than that. Some of the lines seem to be cut off (or they forget a period I don't know which). Although it doesn't detract from the overall enjoyment since the other two games had it too.

Back to Case 3~

The_Griffin Nov 9, 2007 12:04 AM

lol, I've actually started taking my coffee black after playing this game. :tpg:

And trust me, case 4 and 5 will have you in tears.

Tails Nov 9, 2007 06:49 AM

LAWL at all you fuckers who have already beaten it. :(

I just got mine in the mail today (lawl backorders), and the first case was a breeze, largely in part due to having already played it through a translation.

Just started case two, and I must say that "Mask the Mask" is quite possibly the greatest name I have ever heard in my entire fucking life. Seriously laughed all night. If the rest of the game is as good as this, I'm sold.

SAME HERE. I'm so sad. Oh well... SMG is going to keep me happy (in a few days) til it finally arrives.

Anyone think its the plushie production that was the reason for its being backordered?

FatsDomino Nov 10, 2007 01:16 AM

I dunno. Doesn't seem to keep Capcom from shipping them out to people who weren't able to get them with their preorder at retailers. They may simply be out of stock of their own game which makes no sense considering you ought to set aside this kind of shit for your preorder folks on your own company store. Maybe they got way too many orders.

I'm glad to know I'm not alone in this.

They carry it over that way in this, but when you first hear about him Phoenix translates it literally as "Mask the Mask?", and I haven't been able to think of it any other way since. It was hilarious.

DeMasque means "the Mask" or "of Mask" in French, so it's not incorrect.

I finally beat the game and realized this. :(

Only click if you beat Case 5:
I did not expect Godot though, that was a "Turnabout" if I ever saw one. And how everything came together so nicely near the end. It was so sad Maya saw her Mother but didn't really know until she was already dead. Plus adding that photo that was hidden in Misty's Talisman? Talk about tear jerker. :(

It's what I love about Phoenix Wright though. It's like reading a Novel, only it's interactive. After beating the game I feel as if I grew up with Phoenix and Co. And that's what makes a game great.

Spoiler:
I know! I was so fucking tempted to make an avatar/sig based on the ending of Case 4 (or to be more specific, Diego's reaction to Terry Fawles killing himself), but I decided against it since it would spoil the game.

Then I tried to make a sig/avatar with Phoenix covered in coffee as the avatar and Godot throwing it as the sig, but I suck at photoshop and nobody offered to help me when I asked in the sig/av request thread. :(

Yo, Griff.:
I'll see what I could do.

Thank you so much. Now I just need Godot and I'm all set. :tpg:

??? Godot is under Phoenix. <.<

Here it is again, but host it elsewhere.

Just want to say,

THANK YOU

for using spoiler tags. Its very much appreciated. There's plenty (perhaps... not) of people who still haven't gotten the game due to Capcom's fuck up somewhere. But again, thank you to all of you for doing so in consideration since.

Spoiler:
Oh, DAMMIT. Sorry about that. Friggin' internet sometimes refuses to load images. :(

I see it now.

EDIT: Aaaaaugh stupid fucking GFF says it's too big. -_-;

EDIT 2: And after pirating a .GIF animator I'd downloaded a trial before a while ago, it should work now. =D

Haha, Phoenix Wright definitely is something where almost all spoilers should be avoided and found out yourself. I am unfortunate and had thought (silly brain) that the second and third games weren't coming out so I had read the synopsis of the cases over at court-records.net.

:gonk: <-- What I looked like when the second game was announced.

Still fun experience though, but I bet I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't spoiled myself.

EDIT: Lookin' good Griffin. :P

From what I heard (mostly on Capcom's AA board) the problem is with the distributor, Digital River. Then again, it's Capcom's duty to get enough copies to Digital River so that they can ship them out, so I don't really know what's the deal with that. I'm certain Capcom has plenty of stock, anyway.

Case 5:
Aw man that photo in Misty's talisman. That was probably the best "case epilogue image" that I've seen, followed by the group shot. EPIC ASSEMBLY.

Also, IRIS. I felt so bad for Phoenix there, but at least he knew that his relationship with her was genuine (until Dahlia went homicidal).

Also I have here a mug of coffee, black (but only because we have no creamer). Oh, Godot.

The_Griffin Nov 12, 2007 01:40 AM

'Twas the avatar that was too big. No problem, I deleted everything but frames 2-13 and it was good.
