DDR SuperNOVA

Since no one bothered to post a new thread about the upcoming DDR Arcade release, I'm taking the time to do so.

Anyway, I pulled up an update from sometime last week that shows some new songs that I suppose are confirmed to be on the mix.

Now please don't ask me to translate the Japanese text, because I have no fucking idea what the hell the translations are. The only one I DO know is a song by Terra, which is called "MUGEN". I forgot if it's the ??? BPM or the 171 BPM.

Anyway, they're planning "Drivin' " and several Super Euro remixes that I've previously played on StepMania, I'm definitely more interested in this mix.

Chaotic Mar 16, 2006 05:16 PM

Last time I checked during the whole preview video, MUGEN was a 10 footer. I might be mistaken. But I can't wait for this. As much as I love ITG, I <3 DDR also.

SimDaddyGT Mar 16, 2006 05:20 PM

Yeah, I read somewhere that Mugen was considered at 10, but that does sound rather ridiculous. I remember downloading a simfile for it, but whoever created the file said that everything but the Challenge steps were "Official Steps".

Highly impossible if you ask me for those Heavy steps to be 10-footer steps. The chart said it was either a 7 or 8. I can't remember, cuz I'm not at my computer and won't be for the next few days.

cubed Mar 16, 2006 06:14 PM

I'm improving my stamina with ITG2 while waiting for that new DDR mix. I expect so much from it. I even may go back to DDR exclusively, who knows...

SimDaddyGT Mar 16, 2006 06:43 PM

I never really switched to ITG2 since I rarely get to play it. I do enjoy the game a lot, but DDR will always be superior for me, especially since I'm not strong enough to pass all those Expert charts on ITG, maybe an 8 or 9 here and there, but not really a whole bunch.

I'm seeing a lot of good stuff (I think that the new BeForU song's are infinitely better than the old ones... 'cept for DIVE, of course). But why the hell do we need another Britney Spears cover??? :edgartpg:

SimDaddyGT Mar 16, 2006 08:26 PM

I'm very familiar with Himawari thanks to Ultramix 3. Of course, right after I heard it on the game, I went and found the full version, which is better.

Wasn't Chikara on DDREI Tournamix 4 or something?? (also sounded awesome)

I don't really care if Toxic's in the game or not, because there's another 300+ songs for me to play. Of course, I might play it if they make it sound good like they did for Genie In A Bottle (my personal opinion, anyway). But from what I heard, Drivin' (one of my personal favs) is supposed to be a 9-footer on Heavy, so I might be too busy with that song to care.

Couldn't they add Dream Possession by Des-row?? Such a pretty song... compared to all the others I've heard from them. They sound ok, but it's nice to have a soothing song every once in a while.

Lee-chan Mar 16, 2006 08:45 PM

I've actually never downloaded any of the DDREI Tournamixes... Back when DDR America was up was when I was having torrenting problems. But CHIKARA's a pretty old song, so I wouldn't discount it being in a fan sim.

I agree, Dream Possession is a very nice song. Dan Dan Doh seems more out of place in DDR than Daikenkai was.

Something I missed before - AA and a Healing Vision remix being on the same list scares me. Lately, new remixes of DDR songs have been sucking lately, ne? (Most of the Euro mixes are pretty dated.)

SimDaddyGT Mar 16, 2006 08:53 PM

I have a simfile for AA that someone gave to me. The song sounds wicked awesome (again, my opinion) from what I can say. The Healing Vision remix doesn't really concern me, as I never really cared too much for the original and HVAM (still gotta pass that MF on Heavy).

Lee, you think AA is scary? Wait til you come across AAA and AAAA like I have: AAA sounding even better than AA, but AAAA not quite fitting my style. Plus, the simfile is near impossible, almost like Vertex ALPHA, which also sounds wicked.

I actually listened to that Toxic remix, and I gotta say it's got its good moments in the song, mainly the trance-like parts. It's something I would probably play once every dozen rounds or so.

Lee-chan Mar 16, 2006 09:05 PM

AA just really sounded... sloppy to me. Plus, I'm terrible in IIDX so my experiences with it there were... really bad, to say the least.

The reason I typically avoid fan sims is because I don't want to waste my time downloading impossible simfiles. There are a lot of good fan mixes out there, I just haven't heard a lot of them.

cubed Mar 16, 2006 09:25 PM

Drivin' a 9-footer ? Cool. I just hope it will look like the [2] one[s] I downloaded (one in Tournamix 4, plus another on bemanistyle). I never succeeded to make my CF pad to work well with Stepmania (it's a little offbeat, I dunno why), so I never had the chance to try it in real.

I never played any beatmania nor heard anything from that series (except the past crossovers and some simfiles found on the net). Can I hear that AA ? and the others, AAA and AAAA, are they real or only stupid fan remix ?

SimDaddyGT Mar 16, 2006 09:30 PM

Unfortunately, I don't have the files with me, as they're on my computer 150 miles away, but you might be lucky enough to find them on Bemanistyle.

As far as I remember, AA and AAA were made by DJ Amuro, not sure about AAAA. I may be mistaken.

Summonmaster Mar 16, 2006 10:35 PM

I like the sound of "Fascination Maxx" and "Healing D Vision". Thos should definitely prove to be murderous.

I was hoping for something new from Orange Lounge or something in the vein of Des-Row's Dai-Ken-Kai. Oh well, we'll see.

Have you actually heard the tracks or are you just speculating from the names?

Des-ROW has two tracks on the posted list, and one Dan Dan Doh is in the same vein as Daikenkai. I'd have to agree on wanting to see more ORANGE LOUNGE. I'd actually like to see some more 2MB remixes... those were always among my favorite songs.

A and AA were Amuro. AAA was a remix by DM Ashura. Haven't heard of AAAA though.

Really? I agree that the main piano part of A is much better than any piano in AA, but I like AA's strings and synth a lot more than A's. I find it much easier to listen to. Then again, it took me a good hundred or so tries at LEAST to pass A on IIDX, so I may still be quite tired of it.

Summonmaster Mar 17, 2006 01:23 PM

Just speculation...of course I'm going to be eager to get Fascination Max and Healing D Vision when they're out.

I can't believe there's more than just "A" now! Looks like I haven't looked at the songs in the mixes for a while now.

Is there an orignal version Orion.78 somewhere yet? I don't like the civilization mix, but I love the Ameuro mix. Although the Ameuro version may actually be the original.

yes! Chikara and Himawari on this mix (along with a few noted others) have this mix completely sold for me.

yes it was. I could upload it sometime very shortly.

Chaotic Mar 17, 2006 10:15 PM

They're probably the slower versions... Hell we got a different version of Little Boy on MAX2, so imagine the possiblities!

Kuhazan Mar 18, 2006 03:02 AM

I wish they would add more fourth mix favorites back like Cat's Eye and the stuff we've never seen from the UK Console releases... a lot of those songs had excellent steps and sounded excellent as well :)

K_ Takahashi Mar 18, 2006 10:29 AM

Here's that simfile of Chikara that I said I would upload.
Enjoy, for now at least.

Rawkus Mar 18, 2006 01:32 PM

Videos of Chaos and Healing-D-Vision (both on heavy) are up here.

They both look pretty dumb, but more so with Chaos and its 3924 stops.

Looking at the video. Chaos seems like a straight-forward song, but with all those stops, it makes it look hard. I think Konami is running out of ideas.

The song is really great. But it's only a 6 on Heavy, I think.

I must say that the Chaos steps are officially the dumbest things ever. Healing D Vision or whatever it's called looks and sounds like a fanmade simfile. Which, I guess, is both good and bad.

BUT, the character models are very nice. There's even some ass-shakin' action, which is a big improvement from whatever the hell the characters were doing before. (Sue me if these improvements are old - the newest US console release I've played is EXTREME.)

cubed Mar 20, 2006 05:11 PM

Chaos is to DDR which Vertex/Vertex² is to ITG.

And I thought Tierra Buena was a 6, but I was thinking of the Balaika song... I want it now :(

Well they've been ass-shakin' since Ultramix. It's only up until now they decided to put it into an arcade version.

K_ Takahashi Mar 22, 2006 10:54 AM

to me, the steps to Chaos are similar to Stoic (For Extreme) in the event that there would be stops more than needed.

And Healing Vision D with its crazy speed adjustments are going to make future mixes quite interesting.

alkaline Mar 22, 2006 06:37 PM

As long as "I Will Survive" from Extreme II makes it in, I'm happy. Dan-Dan-Doh, Stars *** and Red Zone are my favorite transplants so far.

As a DDR player since 1999, Supernova is already my dream game as it is.

Chaotic Mar 22, 2006 07:52 PM

That's what we all said for Extreme. :)

I'm just hoping that Polvostin (SP?) Dances and Choruses is going to be confirmed as a song in this mix. LOVED this song from EX2.

I can't say that I'm too disappointed - most of my favorite old songs are on this list (though, like many, I'm severely disappointed that we won't be able finally play MAX. (period) on an official cabinet... wait, it looks like it's the about the only JP CS song that isn't on the list... @_@). I'm not too sure about the new songs, though (especially the two with links to the videos posted earlier in the thread).

what? no least 100 secs?

Zephyr Mar 26, 2006 02:03 PM

What do you mean? If your talking about the 100 second to choose a song, yes you still get 100 seconds, they just show it lowering.

Lee-chan Mar 26, 2006 02:29 PM

No, there's a song called "The least 100sec". It's from 8th mix. Look again, it made it on the list.

valiant Mar 26, 2006 02:43 PM

oh there it is...hahah my bad. XD

Just spotted this update:

According to Betson as of 9:13am EST the machine are only available for order now and are slaked (get it) for Mid June shipping. There are currently only 50 machine left for the first order with no exact date for the second set of ordering to begin. The machines will be $15,000 for the new didicabs and there will be no upgrade kits available at this time.

So it's up for pre-orders, yet there's a limited supply for first mass shipment. And DAMN, is it expensive!!! Not even ITG2 dedicated cabinets were this bad, or were they? I wouldn't know, cuz I've only played on refurbished pieces of shit from 2000.

Nonetheless, I'm sure the 50 slots have already been taken, mainly by California and Texas, where it's insanely popular, at least in numbers of machines.

Isn't the one in bold from 7th?

Found a songlist (with more songs than the one previously posted, because I didn't see Mondo Street and AA in that list), and some stuff about SN('s location test)
http://www.maplebiscuit.com/ddrsn.html

Throwbacks are:
1. It's in Japanese
2. OMFG Engrish (like Shawn the Horny Muster, Balalaica, Curried on the Wind and Feel just like it soulde)

SimDaddyGT Apr 6, 2006 06:09 AM

Yes, Destiny is from 7th Mix. Minor accident by Zephyr, I'm sure, but not a big one.

Somehow, I don't trust that list on that link. Not because all the symbols not in English are question marks, but because:

1. Some of the songs on Festival and Strike aren't being listed as songs from Extreme 2 and Extreme (both US) like they should be since they appeared on those games first. However, Japan obviously had those songs set for Festival and Strike before handing them to us.

2. I haven't read anything that said this was a confirmed update of new arcade songs. Maybe it says confirmed in "question marks", but I don't know.

Kuhazan Apr 8, 2006 01:09 AM

hmm this has exactly what I need to start playing DDR again... songs from Pop n Music, GF/DM and Dance Maniax... haha

xen0phobia Apr 8, 2006 07:21 PM

my arcade just got the newest pump and now hes ordering supernova too. Am i lucky or what? He said it'll probably in the fall by the time we get it though.

XP Ooo your lucky! I heard in Florida (Where I live) that the arcade in Universal Studios is getting rid of its DDR Extreme and getting SuperNOVA. Not sure though. I hope its true >.>

Chaotic Apr 9, 2006 01:39 PM

The closest thing that New Jersey has to having a machine is one at Jersey Gardens @ the AMC Movie theater... We have a Beta version up for play for a $1.00... I'd hit it up, but hell, I can't drive, and I doubt I could drag my parents along for the trip just for me to play DDR.

Dear European ppl,

SuperNOVA is released.

Dear everyone,

There is still no announced unlocks yet.

K_ Takahashi May 27, 2006 12:20 PM

Decent list.

I'm suprised that shitty local arcades around here are getting a SuperNOVA machiene since the high cost of the thing, though I will doubt it will be a dedicated cabinet (but at least I can save some 50 miles).

Chaotic May 27, 2006 12:42 PM

I'm just pissed off that the only SuperNOVA machine in the state is far from where I live. It's one of those moments I have to drag my family into this just to get there, but then again, it's not THAT bad.

Inhert Jun 22, 2006 03:41 PM

http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2869

here a new video that show Supernova, ultramix 4 on xbox and the new DDR universe on 360

this could be THE ddr that everyone is looking for, there's seem to be a lot of content in it

I like the new dancer too ^^

(btw I really like the song of the trailer, is this song in any ddr up to date?)

Kuhazan Jun 28, 2006 01:06 AM

I think this game got delyed... again... this wait is getting boring... I wish they ordered another music game as well... one that didn't have conflicting release dates...

http://www.konami.com/gs/gameinfo.php?id=176&pid=11

SimDaddyGT Jun 28, 2006 11:51 AM

Arrrrgh!!!! You've got to be kidding me!! We've been waiting for this for God knows how long now, and they're pushing it back again?? And wait, don't a few arcades already have it?

*sigh* I just hope this doesn't affect the PS2 SuperNOVA release on 9/13.

Inhert Jun 28, 2006 01:32 PM

anyone has the listing of the song in the ps2 version? (sorry if it was already asked)

because i was thinking of getting extreme2 but now I may wait for supernova if there's more song I like.

I think that a few beta versions of the arcade cabinet were released already... at least, with this news, it's what I can assume.

Kuhazan Jun 28, 2006 11:30 PM

I'm assuming they're just going to send one of those beta units to arcades that pre-ordered and those that didn't, the release is Winter 2006....

SimDaddyGT Jul 13, 2006 07:51 AM

See, now I'm even more angry knowing that they're pushing it back. However, I just checked out the SuperNOVA Gateway, where the official songlist is posted, and I can honestly say, the songlist makes me very happy, yet even more impatient.

http://www.konami.jp/bemani/ddr/sn/

There's the gateway, showing the songlist and the courses for all 3 versions.

And SPEED OVER BEETHOVEN IS GONE!!!!! Someone finally felt my pain!!

(now, if I can just prevent n00bs, emos, and little kids from playing Golden Sky over and over in place of Butterfly)

Taco Jul 13, 2006 08:45 AM

Disneyland in California has a cabinet, I'm not sure if it's beta or not. The timing is off on some songs, and their pads already suck. Ghost-good-madness.

The version of the game looked pretty final though. I liked the IIDX crossovers; AA and Xepher have very fun charts.

My local arcade just ordered a SuperNOVA cabinet, but Betson says they're fixing some bugs before releasing more. Now we're waiting on that and hopefully on their IIDX deal to go through and then we'll have SuperNOVA and Happy Sky.

Chaotic Jul 13, 2006 07:34 PM

Ugh... Golden Sky? That was the number 4 song at the machine closest to me. Doesn't Really Matter was the number one song there... Must be all the no0bs there thinking that's the only song they actually know.

I haven't had a whole lot of time to play it, but so far my favorite song is Happy Angel. Might change once I try Dragon Blade.

SimDaddyGT Jul 14, 2006 10:36 AM

Yeah, I'm sure DRM's gonna be a popular n00b song as well over here. I've got some serious work to do.

And yes, Happy Angel is a really good song, and the Expert (Heavy) stepchart isn't too bad, either.

That reminds me. I'm gonna have to get used to the new difficulty names AGAIN!!!

Chaotic Jul 14, 2006 12:01 PM

I'm still probably gonna refer to the old diffuculty names anyway. This is just the Americanized versions from the first DDR game released here.

Kuhazan Jul 17, 2006 01:25 AM

still waiting to hear back from the local arcade..... they purchased Time Crisis 4... (WASTE!!!) wow...

Chaotic Jul 17, 2006 02:24 AM

They have a Time Crisis 4? What the hell is this world coming to?

I doubt my arcade will get it any time soon. Apparently we don't believe in having two machines at the arcade, when some of the gun games could clearly get louder than the ITG2 machine we have. I just hope someone else near us will actually get it.

I can only pray at this point.

Kuhazan Jul 24, 2006 02:09 AM

Ok so my day of television programming was ruined Saturday by crappy golf so I went to Craig's Cruisers at about 10AM and they had DDR Supernova.... so I was like the first person to play on that machine.... (that didn't work there or something) wow didn't expect that

75 cents per play
3 songs
~No doubles premium~
~No Joint premium

Lame that I can't play doubles for 75 cents.

Ok here is what people need to know :

~THE GAME~

Interface :

After chooseing singles/versus or whatever it asks you to select a difficulty level... DO NOT DO SO. Scroll down to the course selection and there should be something that says All Music. Select that. Otherwise selecting Easy/Medium/Hard will display only songs that are Easy/Medium or Hard.... annoying as hell!

Hold down the start button when you wish to goto the mod menu... double tapping does not work like it does in DDR Extreme and ITG2.

Sorting can only be done ABC/BPM and default... lame... the only way to tell what songs are from different games is to print out the songlist and take it with you... haha

Gameplay :

Stepcharts didn't seem offsync like people were bitching about... at least not the songs I played on Heavy and Challenge :

Flowers-TERRA
Xepher-Tatsh
CURUS-D-crew
Tino's White Horse-Morning Blue Dragon
Nijiiro-DJ YOSHITAKA feat. G.S.C.
KI•SE•KI (DDR edit)-BeForU
Polovtsian Dances And Chorus-Naoto Suzuki feat. Martha
Knock Out Regrets-MAKI@TOGO.BAND

And a few other songs that I can't spot on the songlist I have available without going to the SN website

I played a total of 4 times.

As far as the step charts resembleing actual dances on Standard mode like they're susposed to... nope... Konami still hasn't gotten around to choregraphed steps...

Music :

Definitely more musical variety than any DDR before it... thanks to it borrowing songs from Drummania, Guitar Freaks, IIDX and Pop'n Music.

~THE MACHINE~

No memory card slots... like all the other DDR Supernova machines... maybe this is an add on or something that they charge the arcade even more money for :nope:

The pads are pretty much like the old DDR machine pads, except new and without those fugly giant screws... they are however kind of stiff from being new... and the down panel on the right side seemed to feel odd... as in I could have swore while I was playing it rattled a little and moved a bit.... but nothing to be worried about... yet... it is a cabinet made by Betson so be very afraid of the future.... haha The pads are however not really compareable to PIU SX/GX and ITG2 pads... so you don't get that easy slide from panel to panel.

The screen is a flat CRT... not quite like a Pump it Up GX/ITG2 monitor... but it was clear and certainly 100% better than those things they used on the old cabinets.. It was maybe a 22-25 inch monitor I think.

What I think of it so far :
Flawed but good so far.... But I have yet to try any courses or play the battle mode that I fear will suck so I'll post more Monday.

If you go play Xepher on Challenge... funtastic :D (and the only hard song I could find thats unlocked.)

Chaotic Jul 24, 2006 02:23 AM

Xepher on Challenge? That I must try. :D

http://www.ddrfreak.com/locations/lo...ate&stateID=32

I'm a NJ player... There are 17 machines in New Jersey alone. It pisses me off that none of them are within walking distance of me. I seriously want to start playing it again. <_<

But my arcade is to elitest to go out and get a new machine after they just got a Dedi-Cab ITG2 machine last year.

Kuhazan Jul 24, 2006 02:30 AM

One of the rental companies here purchased two ITG2s last year... and they are non-profitable... haha... They SHOULD have gotten ONE Pump it Up Zero then used the rest to get a DDR SN... those two would be guarenteed to be profitable...

ITG2s Novice mode probably turns new players off of the game.

Actually, I checked with "Difficult" and it's a compilation, but not with all "hard" songs. Brazilian Anthem is in this compilation, but not Daikenkai ? err riiiiiight.

Anyway always play with ALL MUSIC :)

Kuhazan Jul 24, 2006 11:47 AM

I assumed it was sorting them to songs that are overall :
Easy
Medium
or Difficult

since when you selected any of those options you got just that... but it does still have some problems there... so yeah...

Chaotic Jul 25, 2006 01:30 AM

Ugh... It took me until my 2nd game to realize that there was an all music mode. But I ended up playing one game on Difficult... None of those songs were impossible though...

SimDaddyGT Jul 25, 2006 02:02 AM

Lafayette just scored a dedcab yesterday morning (Monday). I'm heading out there next week as it is to do some shit before a convention. My original plan was to get in a few rounds of ITG2 on their good machine (had 2 machines, both sucked, but one had a good pad), but they got rid of that one for SuperNOVA, so chances are, I won't be playing ITG2, which is good. I need to get ahead of the Houma competition again in DDR.

ITG2 was 50 cents for 4 songs, whereas SuperNOVA will be a buck for... well, I'll have to wait and see, probably 3 songs.

Kuhazan Jul 25, 2006 01:12 PM

The network connection to the card reader on our machine went down yestarday so it was giving out free plays........ hahaha

Chaotic Jul 25, 2006 06:05 PM

Aw, damn. Lucky.

Confirmed by me. Since, I'm the one that found it and all.

Sim, we be playing mucho DDR before the con.

SimDaddyGT Jul 26, 2006 01:40 AM

And I had so many plans for learning how to play Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 2. Hahahahaha!! Oh, well, that's down the drain, well, at least putting more money into that than SuperNOVA is down the drain.

AA, Drivin', Passion of Love, Maria (I Believe...), Nijiiro, Red Zone, Happy Angel, Polovtsian Dance and Chorus, DoLL, MAX 300 Super Max Me Mix, God there's so much I have to play. I don't know where to start.

cubed Jul 26, 2006 11:06 AM

I hope your cab has high volume, cause I don't understand the beat for AA with the one at my local arcade. DoLL Challenge is really cool. I wish Drivin' was harder than that though :( (as I played so much with the 2 unofficial simfiles).

SimDaddyGT Jul 26, 2006 05:48 PM

I got the beat downpacked with a couple original simfiles, so I should be good.

How hard is the Difficult stepchart for Drivin', anyway? I need to see that shit.

cubed Jul 26, 2006 08:33 PM

It's a 9. But a decent 9. Not a Cartoon Heroes, if you know what I mean. I just wish it could have more fast streams.

EDIT: Oh on Difficult.... it's a 6 on Difficult and a 9 on Expert. No Challenge step either :( At least DoLL on Challenge is really cool.

Kuhazan Jul 27, 2006 01:51 PM

Well I've been playing mostly Xepher and Knock Out Regrets... haha those two are my most overplayed songs... I'd play Tino's White Horse if the steps didn't suck... but they do... so yeah...

SimDaddyGT Jul 27, 2006 05:22 PM

Yeah, I'm gonna have to get used to the difficulties being called Basic, Difficult, and Expert. Oh, well, some things have to change.

Kuhazan Jul 28, 2006 01:56 PM

Well they're still the same color as Standard/Heavy and the rest... so it's not like it's that different.

SimDaddyGT Jul 28, 2006 06:20 PM

No, not really that different, but for me, I have to get used to it, jumping between DDR, Pump, and ITG like crazy. It was like this when we had 4th Mix at our arcade and I was already playing the PS2 games at home, getting the difficulty names mixed up (This was around 3 years ago, mind you).

K_ Takahashi Jul 29, 2006 01:00 PM

I hate how around the first $10 I was unaware on how to get to the all music mode,

no wonder why I couldnt find Holic on the expert mode.....

SimDaddyGT Aug 30, 2006 12:12 AM

All right, time for a revival update.

While I never gave my opinion on SuperNOVA yet, I'm gonna get to it in a sec. FIRST, I have an update for the US PS2 release coming out on 9/27.

It's got True Love. I'm happy. It's got Heaven Is A Place On Earth (German Election Mix). I'm happy. It's got songs I hate beyond belief like Since U Been Gone, VKTRS, and artists I hate, like Franz Ferdinand. Once I play those songs in Stellar Mode, I'll never have to play them again, and that's all I've got to say about that.

Okay, now for my SN AC review.

First, the song selection: SO HAPPY BUTTERFLY, COWGIRL, AND SPEED OVER BEETHOVEN ARE GONE!!! NOOBISTS IN HOUMA WILL SUFFER!! Thank you, Jesus!! Okay, that's outta the system.

The songs in Yellow (a.k.a., licenses) are not the best songs I've heard. In fact, I don't really care for any of them. The Speed Mix for DRM woulda sufficed instead of the original.

The Purples: very sweet add-ons to DDR. I don't recall hearing any of these anywhere before, but I gotta say they caught my attention really fast, including Flowers and True Love. Good job with these, Konami.

The Greens: Sounds like all of these were cross-overs from BM IIDX, and there's nothing wrong with that at all, especially since a good bit of them rock, such as AA, DRIVIN' (love that song), Nijiiro, and Red Zone. The others are awesome, too, but I forgot them all already.

The Aquas: All of which are CS cross-overs. You can't get any better than this, I'm afraid. The only thing that bugged me was that songs from Extreme 2 that were also on Strike, such as Polovtsian, Passion of Love, and Seduction, were considered Strike cross-overs, and not Extreme 2 cross-overs. I mean, come on. We exposed the songs first on our home consoles.

Now the rest.

Interface/Engine/whatever: I love what they've done to it. The techno-like space-like engine is a sweet add-on. It's so crisp and beautiful.

Gameplay: Well, it's DDR. It's not Pump it Up, it's not ITG (Especially not ITG), it's plain, old, better-than-everything-else DDR. Simple, easy, and FUN!!

Oh, and only a couple songs were off-sync, but they weren't songs I'm real big on, except Polovtsian Dance and Chorus. That was the only song I noticed sync-lag that pissed me off.

The Cabinet: Well, it's nothing really new. You have your standard coin/speaker cabinet, your standard monitor, the Marquee at the top with the 4 lights on each side. However, the light-color change is cool.

I guess that's pretty much it. My rating: 10/10. Sure, the only problem was a little off-syncing and almost all the licenses sucking ass, but there were plenty more songs to play, and one or two good songs with bad syncing won't stop me from having fun.

Kuhazan Aug 30, 2006 02:35 AM

Now that we've had the game for a month and I've spent sometime with it I guess I'll write a full review...

Interface :

I still dislike the lack of many sorting options and having to choose all music... especially when it's all the way past the oni-course selection... Also I don't like the leveling system... you can't tell me Xepher or Sakura is in the same class as Paranoia Survivor Max... the levels need to go higher than 10 to give it more accuracy.
6/10

Steps :

~Concerning new content only~
Most of the step charts seem kind of dull or lacking but there are some that stand out... there are no choregraphed step charts so once again Konami gives freestyle the shaft :eyebrow:
5/10

Graphics :

Really depends on what song you play... I like the IIDX cross over videos and songs with animations or the music video to go to them... however not having the music video for older songs like True (which had it in PS2 Max) is unforgivable!!... The dancers just make me not want to look at the screen at all... they're rather annoying... and so is the fact that the setting is always on a cube or hexagon in a room full of those lights and polygons that spin around in the games menus... ugh
6/10

Music :

~Licensced~ 2/10
Most of these are crappy but hey... Surrender your love by Javine sounds nice and isn't one of those songs with a bad step chart.

~Konami Originals~ 7/10
Nothing out of the ordinary here... which is a good thing for some but a bad thing for me... I look for variety in music in my music games.

~Cross Overs~ 8/10
The songs from Pop'n Music, IIDX, GF&DM are all great... problem is some of them were poorly edited which brings this down to an 8 instead of a 10

Hardware :

What's basically here is a PS2 with a hard drive and some security features to prevent bootlegging. The pads feel just like the older DDR machines... which is a good thing to some and a bad thing to others... those others being anyone who has played on an Andamiro PIU SX, GX or AM-ITG2 cab. In otherwords the pad design has not been changed for DDR in anyway... of course if they did some people would be bitching about how responsive it is and how easy it is to get an AA as a result (like some did when ITG2 came around)
8/10

Sound :

The sound effects are purely annoying as hell... especially if the volume is loud... I mean like almost person scratching a board with finger nails bad...
1/10

Gameplay :

Gameplay is sometimes hindered by randomly loaded off sync step charts... guess this wasn't an apparent problem until they made the timing window tight as hell... which I don't like either. Also the game offers nothing outside of the standard gameplay modes... the battle mode is just a revived magic dance from Disney mix... you cannot control when you unleash an attack so it's about as relevant as having random mods on... This could have use the variety of play styles DDR Ultramix 2 introduced... the machine could have also used a 51" DLP monitor and 4 pads instead of two...
5/10

Overall :

This game wasn't complete when it got out the doors... but it's not a complete glitch tastic piece of crap either

7/10

(Will update when update disc is out and installed)

SimDaddyGT Sep 7, 2006 04:48 AM

And this, my friends, is what the US SuperNOVA case image will look like.

http://image.com.com/gamespot/images...7658_front.jpg

Of course, this is the bundle picture, but it's damn near close enough.

Where's the darkness, Konami? Where is my dark background? SuperNOVA is supposed to be a dark, space-like, futuristic game. Why a white background?

Oh, and I checked the Gateway, and apparently SuperNOVA has a release date in Japan, somewhere, sometime, but I can't tell if it's posted or not, because it's all in Japanese.

SimDaddyGT Sep 14, 2006 05:43 PM

Sorry for the double, but there's been an update.

The DDR SuperNOVA Limited Edition Music Sampler has been released, or, it's on its way to game stores right now, I don't know. All I know is, the songlist looks pretty damn decent.

Quote:

01. ELECTRO BREAKS - L.E.F. (Loud Electronic Ferocious) - Ferry Corsten
02. HYPER EUROBEAT - Can't Stop Fallin' In Love ~Super Euro Version~ - NAOKI feat. Paula Terry
03. EURO TRANCE - My Only Shining Star - NAOKI feat. Becky Lucinda
04. HYPER JAPANESQUE - Mugen - TЁЯRA
05. ETHNO JUNGLE - Matsuri (J-Summer Mix) - RE-VENGE
06. REGGAE POP - Flow (Jammin' Ragga Mix) - Scotty D. revisits U1
07. J-HAPPY HARDCORE - LOVE♡SHINE - Riyu Kosaka
08. HYPER EUROBEAT - Dynamite Rave ~Super Euro Version~ - NAOKI feat. Paula Terry
09. INTELLIGENT DRUM'N BASS - Trim - Kobo
10. CLUBSTYLE - TRUE♡LOVE (Clubstar's True Club Mix) - jun
11. EPIC TRANCE - My Only Shining Star (Danceforce Dance To Death Mix) - NAOKI feat. Becky Lucinda
12. PROGRESSIVE TRANCE - INNOCENCE OF SILENCE (The Sparky Forbidden Remix) - nc feat. NRG Factory
13. ATMOSPHERIC TRANCE - Flow (Unique's Direction Mix) - Scotty D. revisits U1
14. HARD TECHNO - Fascination MAXX (Cally & Juice's Maxximum Overload Mix) - 100-200-400
15. CHILLOUT - Star Gate Heaven (Fracus' Crazy Chill Mix) - SySF feat. Donna Burke
Konami, where the fuck is RED ZONE??? I WANT RED ZONE!!!

Anyway, glue your eyes to this while I check on Japan's release date for SuperNOVA on PS2.... CRAP!!! Not until sometime next year!!!

ONE MORE THING!!! Update discs for DDR SuperNOVA AC have been shipped to arcades with SuperNOVA machines. Sync problems should be completely rectified. I wonder what song they mentioned adding to the disc....

Chaotic Sep 16, 2006 02:14 AM

It's called Facination ~Eternal Love Mix~... Just another remix of Facination Maxx. That's the new song...

A video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07nYydU5ICg

Reminds me of Disconnected.

And I was looking at the UM4 list, I noticed DM Ashura's song... Anyone know what contest winner song is in this one?

cubed Sep 17, 2006 12:03 AM

so now the trend is to put stops everywhere (referring to the new song's stepchart). great.... NOT

SimDaddyGT Sep 17, 2006 12:43 AM

Yeah, that chart does look kinda dull. I think Konami's getting scared of ITG, so they're making harder 10's, more retarded 10's.

nanstey Sep 17, 2006 12:06 PM

I just got done listening to the sampler - it's pretty solid, just need to play the actual game now. Kinda torn though, I jsut played Guitar Hero for the first time at Wal-Mart, now I want that too. I now understand why people will pay 80 bucks for it...

Kuhazan Sep 21, 2006 09:53 PM

Our machine gets the update patch installed tomorrow... I'm going to check out the update patch tomorrow.

Chaotic Sep 22, 2006 08:53 PM

I'm just waiting on my arcade to get the new SuperNOVA machine... Personally, I can't wait, but it better have the update disc when they get it.

SimDaddyGT Sep 22, 2006 10:40 PM

I don't wanna say "don't count on it", but if the machine is being shipped straight from wherever the hell the HQ is, then chances are, you'll have the update disc.

Only 5 days left until the PS2 release. God, I'm getting edgyyyyy.

Cheezeman3000 Sep 23, 2006 09:29 PM

Personally, I am a HUGE fan of stops 'cause they feel awesome AND go with the music. I actually think that every time the music stops they should throw a stop into the step chart because then it would really follow the music like it should be followed. Seriously, it just feels awkward watching stuff fly by when there's no music (Can't Stop Falling In Love... one of the older mixes... prime example). Oh, and that new mix of Fascination is amazing... I can't wait to try it out!

Chaotic Sep 27, 2006 08:55 PM

Yay! I finally got the game. It's pretty damn good. Nice selection also.

The Extra Stages are as follows:

Easy - MAX 300 (Super-Max-Me-Mix)
Medium - Healing D-Vision
Hard - Facsination Maxx
All Music - Facsination ~eternal love mix~

At least we have the new one in here. HELL of alot easier than the original, but I still haven't passed it yet. Chaos is in this version also...

That stellar mode is pretty cool, there's alot of tasks you have to do... Some easy, some hard. Like specifically getting a song on Roulette mode and passing it. What are the odds of that happenening? It's like getting MAX 300 in DDRMAX.

SimDaddyGT Sep 28, 2006 01:42 AM

Yeah, Stellar Master Mode is giving me a tough time. For some reason, some of the trials never activate when I go play a song. Other than that at this point in time, the game is insane.

You think they put enough 10's in this one?

Chaotic Sep 28, 2006 04:56 PM

Um...

Xepher (Oni)
Healing D-Vision
MAX 300 (Super-Max-Me-Mix)
Fascination Maxx
Fascination ~eternal love mix~

Yeah... Seems like enough. I'm gonna have hell with this game.

And Sim, some challenges only work if you play them on the diffuculties that are set to them. And some won't allow mod changes... Or at least I think so.

I haven't finished Popcorn... I'm halfway through Glow, and i'm already done with Urugasi. I have the next three stellar joints, but didn't have enough time to work on them.

This is probably one of the best home versions they've release in a while.

And who agrees with me that Dance, Dance has good heavy steps?

cubed Sep 28, 2006 05:12 PM

I will answer that when they're done with the stupid multilanguage booklet for Canadian market -_-

SimDaddyGT Sep 28, 2006 05:22 PM

I found out about the option restriction on some missions sometime last night after my post.

The Dance, Dance steps are pretty good, I'll give them that. This song, and a few other licenses are not too bad, but then you've got the crappy ones, but oh, well.

I'm on the 7th Planet right now. If I'm not mistaken, there should be 10 planets, the last being some kinda BOSS Planet or something.

Oh, and why in God's name do they want you to end a song with a score "ENDING" in 70?? There's like a 1-in-infinite chance of that happening.

Chaotic Sep 28, 2006 08:17 PM

I read something on Gamespot that you should at least have 70% Perfects and 30% Greats to possibly land in 70...

Meaning, you have to intentionally suck.

Kloak Sep 28, 2006 10:24 PM

Yeah that 70 thing is kinda pissing me off...and my luck with the whole get 2 female dancers in a row...IS JUST NOT HAPPENING FOR ME AT ALL...been playing for about 1 day now and i'm 10)% done with i think my 4th planet so far...I love the game honestly...

and Dance, Dance does have awesome steps

Malice Mizer Sep 29, 2006 12:53 AM

A technique i've heard of to help your odds in getting the "finish the song with 70" mission is to turn Cut on, and near the end your meter will be around 70. Just carefully time your steps to make sure you finish with 70, it becomes rather simple then.

Right now i'm having issues unlocking Fascination ~eternal love mix~, mostly because I suck at the Extra Stage playing it Reverse 1.5x...@#$%. Only AAA so far too is on Love <3 Shine basic. >>

Zio Sep 29, 2006 02:18 AM

Hmm I've played this at the Aracade(3 tokens, 75 cents) for three songs like any normal arcade machine and it's rather fun. Finally got to standard after starting on light and been playing for about a year. It's rather fun and good excerise(Yes I've lost weight from it and playing with my friends.). But regardless, they are releasing it at the end of the month for the PS2.

gdog66 Sep 29, 2006 03:04 AM

Okay, cool.

Trim, by Kobo, is an online-only 10.

I'd link it for you all, but, unfortunately, without some clever finagling, it looks like I can't post links, so I'll just have to wait until I can to post the vid.

Suffice it to say that it's a real surprise. :P

nuttyturnip Sep 29, 2006 01:34 PM

SuperNova has some good songs, but I still prefer Extreme2. What's with the difficulty selection only showing certain songs? Why wouldn't I want to see the whole song list?

I've got a really stupid question. How do you change dancers? The first area in Stellar Master Mode says to play 2 songs with PiX, but I see no way to select the dancer.

Zio Sep 29, 2006 01:53 PM

I think you select it before you do the 'unlock' mode. Kinda like whne you go to free play, select your style then chose your dancer.

I prefer extreme 2 for home use and supernova for at the arcade if you have one in your city.

nuttyturnip Sep 29, 2006 02:09 PM

That's how it works in Extreme 2, but there's no dancer select in SuperNova Free Play that I can see.

And yes, I prefer SuperNova in the arcade as well, but there's only one in Baltimore, and they charge $2.50 per play.

Chaotic Sep 29, 2006 02:24 PM

The dancer selection is in the options thing when you choose a song. It's the first random thingy on the list.

I usually choose Rage. One thing i've noticed is that every character has their own dance style. <_<

Wow that's insane. My arcade here in Wisconsin in the mall in my city, nothing is above 3 tokens(25 cent a token.).

nuttyturnip Sep 29, 2006 07:31 PM

Everyone around here thinks it's insane too. I think a lot of folks drive up to York, PA, where there's a mall with SuperNova, Extreme, and ITG2, all at affordable prices. That's about an hour from here. Me, I'm going to Ocean City next weekend, and there's a SuperNova machine on the boardwalk.

neothe0ne Sep 29, 2006 09:58 PM

lol.. I thought $1.50 was bad for 3 songs.

Chaotic Sep 29, 2006 10:09 PM

And I thought $1.25 was bad.

When I went to the Broadway City Arcade in NYC, they had a MAX2 there for $2. I suckered myself into playing about 3 games there. >_<

And a game of PIU.

It sucks waiting to earn all the songs... I have a CodeBreaker... I'm just hoping they release the SuperNOVA cheat pack. I know cheating is bad, but i'm still gonna play Stellar Master Mode even if I have more songs. I just want more stuff to dance to so i'm not stuck playing Dance, Dance, Freckles, and Xepher. >_<

Kloak Sep 30, 2006 12:46 AM

Well the more songs u have it would not matter on Stellar Master Mode...each planet has a selected few songs to pick from. The last planet is all boss songs which I enjoyed and dispised both at the same time...TRYING TO FC CHAOS is almost impossible unless you KNOW the song. Thats the only mission I cannot complete...and some other missions that are random in some planets...I unlocked almost all the songs except the last new Fascination Max mix thing.

Zio Sep 30, 2006 02:38 AM

Seems my arcade is the cheapest.

cubed Sep 30, 2006 08:52 AM

My arcade is 2 tokens (0.50$ each). But the size and weight of their tokens are the same as in another arcade near my house, which lack in machine variety, which are 0.25$ each. The "best" they got at this place are: "GuitarFreaks8thMix",.... That pretty much summarize it, in fact. No kidding.

OH AND IT'S IN CANADIAN MONEY, SO IT'S CHEAPER THAN YOU :o lol

Zio Sep 30, 2006 11:09 AM

Depends on the game, fine in America and as well in reality if you wanted to go by american dollars, it'd be 10 cents more expensive for me, because I think the going rate for a dollar to a loonie(I think it's the loonie) is 1 dollar to 1.10 and I know this cause I googled it unless it's wrong then I blame google.

SimDaddyGT Sep 30, 2006 04:45 PM

It took me about 19 tries before I finally did it. Of course, it pissed me off, and I will probably never play it on Light again.

And now that I have The Last complete, I need to say this.... KONAMI, WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU THINKING WITH PIZZA BOX??? For fuck's sake!!! AAA Every song in RED??? Get a AA on all 74 songs AGAIN???? Clear a song on Speed X8 with BOOST? STEALTH???? I've only been able to memorize DROP OUT and MAX 300. I'm losing brain room to memorize another song. As if clearing a song with a score ending in 70 wasn't bad enough (I still didn't do that), now I have do end one with 777!!!, and FAT FUCKING CHANCE of getting the same color PiX 3 times in a row.

Konami, seriously, that last planet is completely stupid. Stop making insanely stupid missions for Master Modes. In fact, after going through all the shit I went through to beat Stellar Master Mode, just stick to unlocking songs by playing songs in Arcade Mode. Stellar Master Mode was fun up until all this insane shit appeared.

Chaotic Sep 30, 2006 05:26 PM

Yeah... That Pizza Box is fucked up... I read the description on Gamespot... Just insanity.

And probably later, i'll get a full tracklist up if anyone is still wondering. Finally got that CodeBreakers file, and unlocked every song.

Seriously, there's something wrong with having three songs that are 9-footers on Basic. All those Challenge steps look like something ITG would do also.

Kloak Sep 30, 2006 05:33 PM

I'm pretty sure Konami is just trying to show Roxor or Adamiro that they can also put insane steps without filling up a step chart. Its pretty obvious how INSANE Konami is. Healing-D-Vision Challenge is a perfect example of what insanity is...the ending run is just CRAZY.

Zio Sep 30, 2006 06:19 PM

And how do you unlock songs via arcade mode?

And they should make the steller mode easy or atleast doable by using your feet, not your hands.

Kloak Sep 30, 2006 09:04 PM

Well i got my AAA on Healing-D-Vision on Expert...everything else is going to be a bitch

Taco Sep 30, 2006 09:58 PM

Played a little more at my arcade today, avoided the typically off-sync songs (although Chikara seemed to stay on sync for some reason today). Rainbow Flyer has fun steps, and Quickening is really, really fun. Too bad those steps suffer from going off-sync throughout the song :/

Zio Sep 30, 2006 11:29 PM

There is suppose to be a patch, funny thing the company said it was out, his distrubutor told him no it's not/didn't have it. Some arcades claim to have it and etc. I think it's all one big rumour and it's not out yet.

Chaotic Sep 30, 2006 11:41 PM

If it was one big rumor, videos of Fascination ~eternal love mix~ wouldn't be flying all over YouTube.

Double Post:
I didn't write down the first half... I figured they'd all be on that list already... Guess I have to take it by parts, correct me if i'm wrong.

Finally bought it. But.... My ps2 refuses to load the game. I hate Sony.

Manny Biggz Oct 3, 2006 07:55 PM

I can't handle this game anymore. I don't like the fact that they make you play that retarded stellar master mode to unlock songs. Is there any other options to unlock regular songs? I wish they still left the option to just play X amount of songs to unlock others. The beggining song list blows. :(

(Flow is a really fun song though!)

PiccoloNamek Oct 3, 2006 08:09 PM

Download a completed-game memory card image.

Manny Biggz Oct 3, 2006 08:57 PM

I don't have that thing to hook my memory card up to my PC.

Kloak Oct 3, 2006 09:35 PM

ummm...do u have a ulaunch on your PS2 or like...any way to transfer files to your memory card?

Manny Biggz Oct 3, 2006 10:14 PM

Not that I know of.

Kloak Oct 3, 2006 10:40 PM

Hmm...then i'm not sure how i can help you with that...i have my DDRSupernova save file on my PC but if you can't transfer it to your MC then theres no point...

Either you might have to suck it up and try your best OR...somehow get that MC to be able to be read in PC's OR...get yourself an MCExploit

SimDaddyGT Oct 3, 2006 11:13 PM

Or just wait a couple weeks or months for someone to upload save data onto Action Replay MAX Evo's Online GameSaves section.

Damn you, Chaotic. I was gonna post it 2 nights ago after I unlocked FELM.

I guess you missed the point of the last few posts. >_< Maybe I should just wait for the songs to be available on stepmania. Are those silent hill 3 and 4 songs in the PS2 version?

Kloak Oct 3, 2006 11:21 PM

dude by the time they make sim files for this with perfect sound and steps i think u'd be done trying to unlock all the songs...if you going to wait i think u shoul djust end up doing it yourself on control...its not that bad

Zio Oct 4, 2006 12:43 AM

How the heck do you transfer saves from your PC to your PS2 and visa versa, I never heard such things...

I still don't know how you can unlock all the songs just by playing it on arcade(For extreme 2 cause evne then I haven't beaten all the stuff in dance master mode.).

Regardless, I think someone earlier said there was a codebreaker thingy for the game, got a site that has it or should I check gamefaqs.com?

It worked that way in every PS2 version before Extreme 2.

Kloak Oct 4, 2006 09:45 AM

the way i transfer my saves to my MC is by something called Ulaunch. its a memory card exploit which you can transfer save files, video files, a whole bunch of things. My pS2 is modded with a 120 gig maxtor hard drive but yo udon't need that to run Ulaunch.

Manny Biggz Oct 4, 2006 01:53 PM

So how do you connect it to your PC? USB cord?

Kloak Oct 4, 2006 01:58 PM

well if u had ulaunch u could do it through just a regular Pen drive...if u have a network u can run a program that will allow u to FTP into your memory card. Since i already have ulaunch i just use a pen drive to take out or put in files, movies, MP3, etc.

Chaotic Oct 4, 2006 07:50 PM

With CodeBreaker, as long as you have your ethernet cable connected into the PS2, you can access the code vault thingy directly and download it on to your card.

No, what I meant was that before you can unlock every song just by playing arcade mode songs over and over again. It was pretty much complete X amount of songs to unlock most songs.

cubed Oct 4, 2006 11:47 PM

yeah it should have stayed like that. I'm not used to play on 1x so it's hard for me to get a lot of the trials. I usually play on 1.5x or 2x. There's a trial that require to clear 5 songs with the x5 mod, Expert and Challenge only O_O GASP

BIGWORM Oct 5, 2006 02:50 AM

since my Code Breaker can't read pen drives on my v14 slim PS2, I'm using Action Replay MAX Evo to download my saves. If you didn't know (I'm assuming it was said pages ago), you could get saves from GameFAQs (at least most of the time anyway).

SimDaddyGT Oct 12, 2006 07:46 AM

Well, here's a little bit of bad news for SuperNOVA players. Unfortunately, DDR SuperNOVA will not have the linking abilities promised when SuperNOVA was announced.

Needless to say, we're all pretty disappointed by this, but it's good to know that things are at least confirmed in that matter.

I'm not that much disappointed, really, since I barely make Edit Data, though it woulda been nice to test my 9-footer Edit Data for My Only Shining Star on a SuperNOVA machine.

Ah, well, can't win 'em all, I guess.

Inhert Oct 12, 2006 05:45 PM

anyone with the ps2 version can tell me if it's good? I mean i'm really not an expert in DDR the only one I have is DDmax2, so how is it? are the song good?

anyone has a complete list of the song of the ps2 version?

Don't bother, because you have to be a DDR god to unlock the worthwhile songs. This game is not new player friendly at all...

Kloak Oct 13, 2006 01:18 AM

yeah seriously...If you are a beginner its going to take you quite some time to unlock all these songs...as of right now I could say the game is good...but the unlocking is rediculous.

2 ways to unlock the Boss songs...either way you have to be good...
But I must say Fascination Eternal Love Mix is a good song...until you play it on challenge...then its rediculous...and seriously pointless

Inhert Oct 13, 2006 06:51 AM

well I don't play often but I can do at least standar song, is it still not good enough? XD

(is there Sakura in it? my favorite song ; ; , I think it's in the arcade one but I'm not sure about the ps2 version)

Kloak Oct 13, 2006 10:49 AM

No you will actually need to pass songs on challenge...i know some people did it without really going through the hardest stuff...like unlocking things...Alot of people do it on control first...and honestly i think thats th ebest thing to do

Nukkus Oct 13, 2006 07:41 PM

i got this today for $12 with the pad. some old crappy dvds paid the rest. Is this only $50 in Canada, or did everyone else find it this cheap?

Kloak Oct 13, 2006 08:54 PM

Thats ummm....$12 with the pad...Thats a really good deal if you ask for my opinion. The store that does trade ins around me don't even take DVD movies for games...other than that I did buy it for my friend for $45 without pad at Toys R' Us. Depending how many DVD's you traded in I say it was a good go for you ^_^

Sakura is not in Supernova. On the PS2 I mean. Only in Extreme2.

Kloak Oct 13, 2006 09:24 PM

I think Sakura looks stupid...lol...like the whole word "Sakura" across her face, I don't know it just makes me mad. She looks so much better in the japanese Extreme.

Inhert Oct 13, 2006 09:26 PM

you're not exactly looking at the background when you play this game >.> I just really like the song

Chaotic Oct 13, 2006 09:30 PM

The background should be the least of your worries...

Kloak Oct 13, 2006 10:19 PM

Well u not looking at arrows when they are not there either you know

Kuhazan Oct 14, 2006 08:45 AM

I never understood that about DDR players... ok you can play a FPS with a billion little things going on online and pay attention to all of the situations and yet... these same people can't view the background video while playing a song? Come on... you guys just aren't paying it any attention!!!

cubed Oct 14, 2006 11:19 AM

... I don't look directly at the background. I'm concentrating on the arrows, as I don't any pattern by heart yet. I'm concentrating mostly on my accuracy, so no time to waste to check what's going on in the background. In FPS, who cares if you get hit, you won't get anything if you survive with your health full, you if you have accuracy to hit your targets.

Kloak Oct 15, 2006 10:15 AM

I found a hacked sace somebody made and took a look at it previously...and somehow he has the song Trim and I believe 3 other songs in the list where you buy those songs...and the songs are purchases yet nowhere to be found on the song list...

It was weird...thought I should share that...lol

Chaotic Oct 15, 2006 05:59 PM

Yeah... I don't look at the backgrounds much either... I'm usually too focused on trying to get that a AAA I haven't gotten yet and trying to stay on beat more than pay attention to something that could throw me off.

SimDaddyGT Nov 12, 2006 01:41 PM

Breaking News!! (well, it's a week or so old now, but this thread's been dead for a month)

DDR SuperNOVA JP CS will be released on January 25, 2007. The OST will also be released on that day, and according to Zenius-I-vanisher, it could possibly feature long versions of KO's as Bonus Songs. The 2nd CD, as tradition follows, will be a nonstop megamix of the songs.

http://zenius-i-vanisher.com/pictures/ddrsnjp.jpg

That is supposedly the official cover, and what a cover, way better than ours.

SimDaddyGT Jan 2, 2007 07:09 PM

Ok, it's update time!!

We're a mere 23 days away from DDR SuperNOVA JP CS's launch, and I've got 38 confirmed songs (assuming you didn't do research yourselves).

Frankly, it's a little short, but again, whole songlists usually don't get confirmed until like, 2 days after a game's launch, because Konami likes to keep us in the dark on these things.

So anyway, I'll shut up and share the confirmed list so far:

Orange isn't gonna be their actual color. Don't panic. I just did that because I don't know which section these songs will fall under. Chances are, they'll fall under the KO section, in which case, I'll fix when I have the full songlist.

That's the list that's been leaked so far since the last update, I believe. Not too shabby, I must say. We'll just have to see what's left when the game comes out.

And don't forget, the OST comes out either the same day or the day right after.

Kloak Jan 8, 2007 04:00 PM

I thought they were going to do a complete Arcade cross-over for the PS2 like they did for 7th mix and Extreme...if not then is there really a purpose of even getting this?

SimDaddyGT Jan 8, 2007 04:52 PM

A full Arcade cross-over would be too brutal. Something about costs to use songs or something like that. And besides, the AC version must be at least 5 or 6GB due to the vids, songs, and engine, not to mention nonstop and challenge courses.... unless someone has the AC version pirated and can prove me wrong, because if I understand correctly, PS2 discs are like normal DVD's, and can only handle 4.7GB of crap.

Now, I'm not saying yeah, all 300+ songs... but even for 110 new songs, it'd be costly, especially since if I got this right, BeForU isn't Konami's property anymore, and they'd probably charge more. Space used probably wouldn't be an issue at that rate, though.

Plus, people on DDRFreak and Bemanistyle are saying that if they did put a high number of songs, no one would be looking forward to a sequel or something like that.

I'm not surprised the CS Exclusives list is small right now. They used up pretty much all the UM1 and UM2 songs in Festival and Strike. All they really have left is UM3 songs like Brilliant RED, Rainbow Flyer, and Brazillian Anthem. Frankly, to fill that gap, I think they should add a couple KO's from UM4, such as GO!, bit mania, Grandolin, and maybe... maybe.... not that I'm a big fan of it... that Insaner remix (as another Boss Stage).

Or hell, more SP songs, like Disabled the FLAW, R5, Real, or Evolution (SP14)

neothe0ne Jan 8, 2007 06:56 PM

The reason Konami doesn't do that is because it leaves no room for sequels since they are lazy and greedy like all corporations are. It's that simple, and that should be understandable.

Kloak Jan 8, 2007 07:54 PM

Yeah DDR8th Mix is only 1gig and how many songs does that have...DVD's hold from 4.7 gigs to almost 8 I believe. Konami is beginning to suck hardcore for DDR...and thats pissing me off

SimDaddyGT Jan 8, 2007 08:16 PM

Don't worry. I'm sure one day, when Konami's ready to shut the doors on DDR, they'll make some kinda FINAL MIX featuring just about every song in existance, but let's hope that's not gonna happen anytime soon. After all, I, like a few others, are expecting to hear of a SuperNOVA 2 or something amongst that line in the next 4 months.

Zio Jan 8, 2007 11:07 PM

It can leave plenty of rooms for sequels.... All you have to do is do an ultimate mix and then after that do new songs on new discs. ._.; It's not that hard to keep up with things and put new songs on new discs but yet have flash back disks.

Kloak Jan 8, 2007 11:41 PM

If Konami keeps DDR going like this they should really just close the door now because these new DDR's coming out is not really all that...ummm...whats the word...good i guess...its just now they trying to compete with ITG and its stupid

SimDaddyGT Jan 9, 2007 12:04 AM

Well, I gotta agree because of the boss songs. Really, those are the only proof that they're trying to make DDR harder than ITG, or equally as hard, and I'm not leaving out the Max 300 Super Max Me Mix Challenge steps. Retarded, if you ask me.

Konami needs to stop worrying about difficulty all the time. Honestly, I'm tired of 10-footers, and not just because I can't pass them, but because they can sometimes be extremely stupid.

Honestly, I think if Trim were to be on the next AC mix, it would be a downfall, because the BPM changes too much, and some of the steps are just retarded, like 1/4 to 1/8 steps that are the same direction at 260+ BPM, just stupid, and they have several of them in Trim, 2 of them in M3SMMM.

So, yeah, they need to just simply concentrate on making good songs and making them fun. Case in point: Brilliant RED, RED ZONE, Seduction Vocal, Rainbow Flyer, Midnite Blaze, Hero Happy Grandale, Xepher (Expert, anyway), GO! (remix on UM4), songs like that.

Malice Mizer Jan 9, 2007 01:14 AM

I thought the boss songs were just fine on Expert, but when they made the Oni steps I think they were trying too hard to make difficult steps that they ended up being sort of a mess in the end. SMMM's oni steps I think are the most well-done, while FAXX's is just Expert's steps with a few random twists that don't make much of a difference. FELM though..evil, baadd. x_o

Maybe since Konami acquired ITG that they'll get the stepchart people to teach a thing or two about quality charts. At least i'm hoping. :D

SimDaddyGT Jan 9, 2007 01:59 AM

Well, FaXX and HDV's Expert charts are so-so, considering I can only pass them via keyboard, controller, or arcade stick (working hard to pass HDV Expert on pad, though), but Felm's is still slightly retarded and has similarities to a couple ITG 10-footer Experts, if not 11's. Plus, 400 BPM is just too fast for me.

CHAOS's Expert is pretty much a 9, not a 10. It's only a 10 because of all the stops, but memorizing all the stops and listening to the song a lot, not to mention studying the chart through various failures and controller usage, I know I can beat it on pad.

But yeah, you're right, the Challenge steps are ridiculous. I mean, who the hell can do all those twists at the end of HDV Challenge? I wanna see vids of people doing that, and still getting in the 9.0-9.6mil point range.

Malice Mizer Jan 9, 2007 03:20 AM

I've only been able to do HDV's oni steps with a controller, since they are just too annoyingly fast to do with my feet now..FELM's ending is the same thing, while CHAOS oni isn't all that bad as long as you know the stops and can handle streams..speed mod helps too.

I watched a vid of someone finishing SMMM oni with 10 greats or somethin like that, and watching the pattern they use when doing the ending stream really helps out in practicing it..before I just got flooded with good's and almost's from quick adjustments but now I can handle it fine. :D

Von Jan 9, 2007 04:31 AM

Regarding the ridiculous boss songs SN provides us, I suppose Konami realises that players are much more skilled than they were years before, and want to accomodate that change by playing the difficulty up. A good share of the market consists of those players who buy the home version to practice, and if there is nothing to look forward for home, Konami loses out. Not a particularly profound observation.

As for HDV, I still have not found the connection to the previous versions of the song. I tried humming the original melody after the triplets finally let up, but it does not really work. . .

Zio Jan 9, 2007 07:21 AM

What's ITG?

Second, I wanted to add about the whole ultimate mix cds. What's the difference between me owning all the CDs can pop any ole one or them making an ultimate one where I spend yet anther 50 bucks for it? Hmm?

They could still make money doing it and produce more. :X

SimDaddyGT Jan 9, 2007 08:11 AM

No, that Ultimate Mix was just something I referred to should Konami decide not to make DDR anymore in the near future, or future, period. It's not something actually being processed.

Malice Mizer Jan 9, 2007 03:51 PM

I think the only thing connecting Healing-D-Vision to the others is the name..the rhythm, melody, and everything else doesn't seem to match..unless this is meant to be like the total opposite, like the D is for Death or something. >_>

Same goes for Fascination MAXX I guess, where is that massive left-right hold slowdown? :P

SimDaddyGT Jan 9, 2007 04:40 PM

If you listen to the bass part of Healing-D-Vision, it sounds exactly the same as the older two, for 2 certain parts, anyway, like where the arrows start. Listen to the bass carefully, as well as the part after the jumps with the speed change.

WRX DRAGON Jan 9, 2007 07:09 PM

is th OST out? or will it come out some time late in Jan?

SimDaddyGT Jan 9, 2007 08:03 PM

OST comes out either same day or day after according to Play-Asia.

WRX DRAGON Jan 9, 2007 08:19 PM

oh really? damn. lol i really love that "Fly away" song by ChiyoTia

Kloak Jan 9, 2007 11:06 PM

Healing-D-Vision: I believe the D stands for Desire because well....thats the name of the artists on all the others...As for the Oni steps...I like them...I like them a lot BUT the ending is horrible. The ending run is retarded and CANNOT BE DONE WITHOUT A BAR

Fascination MaxX: Meh...the Expert chart is pretty decent considering all the stops and slow downs it has. Also I kind of like the beat, but i can't consider this as a MaxX song because theres no left and right hold...lol. The Oni steps is pointless...its the same thing except the very beginning and the very end. Not very talented on those steps there

Max 300 Super-Max-Me-Mix: Enjoyed it when it was on UM2 I believe for the X-box. Loved the new challenge and great mix...then now we bring it to SN and we have Oni steps yet again...which I think are awesome, this is the only Oni I could AA without bar...but the jumps they planted...i mean do they even belong there really...???

Fascination Love Mix: Worse Step chart ever played...thats it

CHAOS: Ok...this one I love ALOT...i messed up plenty of times on my first try and all that but it was a great experience...one of the songs i worked myself up starting from basic all the way to Oni...but yes...once you learn the stops the song is turned to rubbish...not really all that hard at all...Expert and Oni steps are nice though...probably the only boss song I give a 10 out of 10 in my opinion.

I have the gamerip i think of SuperNova...probably gonna be the same except for the whole MegaMix they do on there OST's...

Konami should really tell these people to make ITG3...i mean yeah there stepcharts are somewhat insanely mad but...at least when they make insane stepcharts its not like retarded steps like Fascination love (except Euphoria which is the sloppiest step chart I ever seen in my life)

Dizzy Jan 9, 2007 11:16 PM

I've played it in the past few days. It's quite decent compared to the rehashed crap that Komani usually give us.

I played it online twice, but i don't know if it's because of the time difference or what but i only found 4 people playing...

By the way, anyone has the full version of Xepher (if there really is one) to share with us ^^?

gdog66 Jan 10, 2007 12:53 AM

The only other version of Xepher is the version from IIDX Happy Sky, which has a 15-20 second intro in addition to what SN has. It's not really a huge deal, but I'd be glad to upload it if you like.

Or, alternatively, you could listen to it here.

If you just like the style, the artist has a couple of other songs similar to it:

Sphere

Zenius ~I~ Vanisher

Hope that helps.

Dizzy Jan 10, 2007 01:36 AM

Trance music with piano...greatest stuff ever. Thanks a lot dude.

Malice Mizer Jan 10, 2007 02:02 AM

Well, I just thought what was kinda odd is Naoki's name usage for some of the boss songs.

Healing-D-Vision - DE-STRAD..what happened to DE-SIRE? Now I wanna know what the strad part means. :P Maybe that's the darker side to DE-SIRE.

CHAOS - DE-SIRE retunes..you know, in other places I see it as DE-SIRE returns, so I don't know. My guess is it's just retunes even though returns sounds cooler. DE-SIRE returns/retunes would've been more suitable for HDV imo, but meh. This song seemed more RE-VENGE.

FAXX - <_< Naoki dropped his usage for that..alphabet use for the MAX songs (omega for MAX 300, zeta for MAXX Unlimited, double-zeta for TloM? apparently beta for MAX to the XXXimum if it existed) and for some reason, this song just doesn't feel like it was originally intended to be a MAX. There's no striking similarities between songs like there used to always be, soo..meh, if the chart came before the song, then we just know Naoki was told to make music off that. :P

SimDaddyGT Jan 11, 2007 03:02 AM

Songlist update!!! Fresh from DDRFreak's forum:

Newly added:

GOLDEN SKY
WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD

cachaca
CAN'T STOP FALLIN' IN LOVE -super euro version-
CENTAUR
DYNAMITE RAVE -super euro version-
Gekkochou
Kagerow
MONDO STREET
MOON
murmur twins
Okoreru Ookina Shiroi Uma (Tino's White Horse)
Quick Master
rainbow rainbow
Ska Ska No.3
TIERRA BUENA

So far, if I'm counting right, that makes 54 confirmed songs... yet... STILL NO DRIVIN' OR BRILLIANT RED!!! Come on, Konami, just add those 2 songs, and this mix will be perfect.

Malice Mizer Jan 11, 2007 05:08 PM

Golden Sky makes me happy, but we could've used that on our version as well. <<;...here's hoping for SuperNOVA 2 I guess..though i'm also hoping for DanDanDo to make it in eventuelly, even though I heard the reason it wasn't included was because of controversial lyrics, even though Daikenkai was the same issue and still made it in.

SimDaddyGT Jan 11, 2007 05:55 PM

Controversial lyrics?? What kinda controversial lyrics would that song include? Of course, that's just me not understanding Japanese lyrics, same goes for Daikenkai. I've never heard of that song having bad lyrics.

Von Jan 11, 2007 06:38 PM

Those "super euro versions" are vastly disappointed. Both those songs used to be high-paced and quick course starters, but I do not understand where he is going with these latest renditions.
MOON and kagerow are fun to listen to, though.

Regarding DAIKENKAI, I have not listened to it in a while, but I remember the last chorus defines the narrator as some sort of pimp 'getting his sex on.'

Malice Mizer Jan 11, 2007 07:33 PM

Quote:

Although Des-Row writes songs about a variety of subjects, he [Osuma Migitera] is most notable for writing and singing anti-american songs such as 'Daikenkai' (a song referencing some of the injustices Japan suffered during World War 2), and 'Close My Eyes For Me' [BM 12 RED] (A song about his dislike of current american foreign policy, and how he feels it could bring about a metaphorical end to the world). Although Daikenkai has previously been featured in the american game 'DDR Extreme 2', Des-Row's feature song from the arcade version of DDR SuperNOVA (Dan Dan Doh) is not included in the Playstation 2 version, most likely because of it's political lyrics.
That's pretty much the scoop on it..

SimDaddyGT Jan 11, 2007 09:25 PM

Wow, I never thought that's what the lyrics meant. If that was the case, Daikenkai should never have been added in the first place to Extreme 2.

I wonder about Kagerow, though..... considering that's the only song from Des-Row that I like now.

Malice Mizer Jan 11, 2007 09:26 PM

I guess it was simply added because the majority wouldn't even know what the lyrics said. >> I think the same can go for DanDanDo, since IMO it's just very catchy japanese death metal, and not some rebellious hippie song. XD

Chaotic Jan 12, 2007 01:02 AM

People wouldn't know the difference anyway... Only if they WERE Japanese, they'd understand, but I doubt even they would get offended.

I hate to be the lost one also, but what's the song list for anyway?

SimDaddyGT Jan 12, 2007 02:05 AM

You mean which game is it for?? DDR SuperNOVA CS JP.

The japanese home version of DDR SuperNOVA.

Edit: <_<..Just missed. XD

Been playing around with Extreme 2 and finally finished Dance Master Mode after letting it sit forever after not being able to complete certain challenges..but now all I gotta worry about it getting the last 3 AA's in the game, both Paranoia Survivor's heavy and MAX's challenge charts. x_o

Chaotic Jan 12, 2007 04:54 PM

And ah, thanks for the response on that one.

Damn. T_T I wish we could get a better songlist. Here's hoping that Universe will be a good mix. <_<

Malice Mizer Jan 13, 2007 11:24 AM

There's gonna be a tournament here at the end of next month, tryin to practice as much as I can..

Workin on passing as many 9 and 10 footers as I can too, only have bag under my belt so far for 10's but i'm gonna try Sakura today. I need to boost my foot speed too a bit, I know I can pass MAX 300 if I can just move my feet fast enough around the pad..

SimDaddyGT Jan 13, 2007 10:04 PM

God, I'd love to attend out-of-state DDR tournaments, but they're too expensive, and by that I mean either flights or gas, hotel rooms, and then the entry.

JackTheRipper Jan 13, 2007 10:42 PM

I'd just like to say that DDR Ultramix 4 is the saddest excuse for a DDR game I've ever seen. I almost cried when I played it for the first time.

Chaotic Jan 13, 2007 11:16 PM

Yeah, but at least it's cheaper than Ultramix 3...

I only like a couple of songs in Ultramix 4... Other than that, the selection is weak.

Malice Mizer Jan 14, 2007 12:25 AM

What made me happy in the game is Blue Impulse and Paranoia Survivor Max, and a few other random songs that were neat I guess. <_<

(even though I was hoping for maybe Fascination MAXX)

Chaotic Jan 14, 2007 11:10 AM

I particularly liked Go!, There's a Rhythm, Grandolin... Most of the winners of the contest.

DDRMacintosh Jan 23, 2007 08:56 PM

My absolute favourite song on SuperNOVA is Flower on Doubles Heavy. That song simply rocks, and it's crazy addictive. Honey Punch is ok, but it's too J Pop-ey for me. It's nice to see they added Paranoia Respect in, but still I'm disappointed Konami has yet to integrate Hands into DDR yet, after all they own the rights to ITG now.

SimDaddyGT Jan 24, 2007 04:02 PM

Well, DDR SuperNOVA is out in Japan as of today, damn timeline bullshit. There's a songlist set up on a website, however, it's not one that I've ever heard of, nor do I trust, not to mention the language is mostly question marks.

Anyway, I should get my copy in either Saturday or next week, depends, because I also ordered the OST, so it might not come til Monday. Gimme a week and I should have all the songs unlocked and will put up a full list.

Malice Mizer Jan 25, 2007 01:06 PM

Song list
Course list

They got DanDanDo, that makes me happy. :D

Trim too as a boss song in place of MAX 300 SMMM.

Blades Of Ice Jan 25, 2007 08:09 PM

Greetings. Purchased DDR Supernova and the pad that comes with it in that special bundle. Running into a few technical problems.

First off, the start and select button seem to push themselves and are sensitive to the mat being ruffled all the way from the otherside. Also, I'll start a song - and then the entire game will reset from the soft reset going off on the pad. Not to mention that the game will often bring up the "failure" screen before the song even starts.

Very, very strange. Either I need to return this to store... or disable a certain function.

Your problems are exactly why I despise and will never use a soft pad. If you are going to be home consoling DDR for a while, and want to get really seriously in Heavy, get a RedOctane metal pad or CobaltFlux. It's money well spent if you make use of it.

Or if you wanna save money on an Iggy Pad or a CF. Get the Pelican version of the Ignition pad. They work like a charm and the foam is MUCH softer than the Iggy pad.

Now, there's a lot of talk going on in the forums, both at BMS and DDRFreak, and I'm sure DDRUK, too. However, I've only been checking out the talk at BMS, because that's where it's updated.

People are saying it's gotta be a typo, and that 200-300 songs is inaccurate and ridiculous for an update, that it'll probably only be 20-30 songs, or 2-3 songs. There are people, however, saying that 200-300 sounds right, especially since Konami now owns ITG. But then, you have more people saying that Konami only owns the name ITG and not everything from the ITG franchise (songs, etc.), so not to hope for or expect any ITG songs filling the slots.

Honestly, if 200-300 were the case, it would be insanely hard to fit 500-600 songs on a single kit. As I've stated before, a disc can only hold 4.7 GB.

And frankly, I don't wanna see ITG songs on a DDR game, not just because of the ridiculous stepcharts (Expert charts, anyway), but because I didn't really like a lot of the ITG songs. Sure, I know that Konami would redo all the charts since they don't use mines or hands, but it's not something I want to see.

Now, there is hope for more songs from other Bemani games, especially now that IIDX 13 Distorted and IIDX 14 GOLD are around..., well, GOLD will be out in less than 2 weeks. Also, there's a new Pop'n Music from what I understand, and a new GF/DM set. Plus, I'm sure Konami has some KO's hidden in a vault somewhere. And I'm sure the Ultramix games are considered as well.

Frankly, though, this isn't something to start arguing about right now, because it's only been announced by one guy, and summer's still far from now, so there will be plenty updates if it's confirmed.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but..

There is an unfortunate bit of news to report. It appears that the boss songs in DDR SuperNOVA (and presumably DS SuperNOVA) are not meant to see the light of normal play:

The reason why they have 4 "boss songs" is because of the E-Amuse software. Since the machines in the US do not have that capability, we are without the other songs.

No news of using unlock codes either.

(Thanks to warl0k.)
Such a shame, since I can actually pass CHAOS on Expert now. I was also hoping to play Healing-D-Vision in normal mode. Ah, well. I have a working Blueshark and both regions of SuperNOVA on PS2.

Still, though, for everyone else, it sucks.

They could always bring out update discs someday to unlock them before we get SN2.

Who knows. All it takes is Konami not being lazy. D;

SimDaddyGT Feb 25, 2007 04:26 PM

Unfortunately, though, we don't know yet if that update that was announced is an actual SN update disc or SuperNOVA2. I'm almost sure that either way, we'll get the boss songs as Normal Stages.

In the meantime, we can only wait and pray.

Summonmaster Feb 25, 2007 05:15 PM

So I finally got to play Supernova instead of watching it in five minute bursts. The song list disappointed me, mainly because of the horrendously sizeable amount of mainstream songs. There quite a few old songs (what are you still doing here, Love Shine!?), and of the new songs, there are only a few that I liked. The red songs are awesome though! I want the mp3 of Healing D-Vision now.

I also like in Chaos how you twitch because of all of those deceitful freezes in the stepcharts. As well, I like the insane air and the clapping to accompany Fascination Max. I thought: "you need to be an asian tap dancer! How the eff do you do this, even if you were to hold the bar!?"

M: Foreign sites report that the next DDR will have 200-300 new songs, but...?
O: No, there shouldn't have been anything like that in any of our press releases... (confused)
in an interview with the DDR producer Oota. the 200-300 song update rumor pretty much got shot down there. :eagletear:

Kloak Feb 26, 2007 01:11 PM

Meh, DDR is just getting more and more disappointing as time goes by. Home versions having to many main stream tracks, Boss songs can't be played unless you AA something on heavy then chaos could be played only if you A your Boss song. No word of unlocking, SuperNova 2 not going to have as many new songs as we though, they have the license for ITG format but not even using it I mean c'mon...

Konami can do alot of things they just don't want to anymore...I really hope they let creators of ITG do something because DDR...is known as shit now to me...:(
