Holy mother, look what I found in FFXII.

Crap, I remember this is from one of the previous FFs, but which one?
Also, where can we get the full FFXII PSF2 rip at the moment (or is it still being ripped)? |
That's total balls, the link works great for me.
Try copying and pasting it into a new browser window or something. edit: ok, I'm not on crack, the link works for someone. Read the comments in the psf2 tag. :P edit again: I'm almost done checking it, but I've only timed half the tracks because I'd really like to go to bed soon. I'll upload the WIP set to my site in a little while. I'll post a news update on my site when it's up. |

Awesome work on ripping the game, oddigy!
Anyway, this track was pretty nice to hear. I wasn't expecting any arrangements of previous FF work as specific as this. I guess I shouldn't expect anything more, but damn it, I want to. |
Well, this track basically made the FFV OST worthwhile by itself...Maybe it will do the same for this one. Great arrangement.
|
Haha...I can't wait to fight him in FF XII.
|
That is truly a Surprise, I wonder how that fit in the game for itself, is Gilgamesh returning? Besides that, I can't wait for the full OST! :D
|
Curse you people and your PSF2 readin' PCs. My Mac has been overlooked by the noise emulation crowd, and has no way to play the file.
I've been able to piece together what everyone is so excited about from context, but would anybody mind posting an MP3 version? |
*swoops in before Audigy gets slashdotted, like with KH2*
It probably means Gilgamesh got stuck in as one of the requisite supar sekrit optional bosses. Squeenix is all about winking and nudging its longtime fans these days. Interesting rearrangement, though. Sakimoto is a lot better at handling other people's music than Shimomura, that's for sure. |
As much as I hate Sakimoto, this is a great arrangement. It's different, and it's actually ARRANGED. I might just be tempted to listen to the FFXII OST now. :)

Sakimoto's hit and miss with me, but I like this, marching band drumloop notwithstanding. Helps that I like the original, though. Great find. |
Not a fan of Sakimoto but I like the arrangement.
|
Is this really the sound of the music in this game? I expected better, nearing DOC quality.

I listened to the oddigy tracks, the legati of the strings were FFTA-quality. They don't sound like the real thing. I hope it's the rip that causes this. I've listened to some released mp3-samples and they were better. There's a huge difference between Peace and War.mp3 and the rip of this track.
Good pizzicato's, harp, especially percussion. There is variation in the instruments. There are interesting motives but they don't have a real main theme. (like FFT) I'm afraid that all the songs I heard out there (before I listened to this OST) were the best songs of this OST. At least there's a huge arsenal of songs. Including an orchestrated Chocobo Theme, how innovative. I didn't hear a live orchestrated part like the ending song of Vagrant Story, which was one of his brilliant works. Too bad. I'm sure it's out there somewhere. |

The USF player 64th Note is open source, but as far as I know, no one's attempted to port it. Basically, we run into the unfortunate problem of not enough people caring. |
It's a nice orchestration, but it doesn't sound very "full" for an orchestra (I especially think the string instruments sound a little weak) I guess there isn't much bass in there either. Otherwise, very nice to hear. =)

And would any of you PC users mind encoding the song in question to MP3, please? I'd really like to hear it. |

well... well... well... Gilgamesh returning! One of my favourites... :D
Btw, thx oddigy 4 the rip. At least it kills a little of my curiousity waiting my copy of FFXII OST. Btw, no. 015 kinda reminds me of PSOne's FFTactics and I think I heard this in one of the trailers. Still listening to the rest of the PSF... (except the prologue which I immediatedly recognise) And it's kinda odd hearing Sakimoto's work on Final Fantasy series. Kinda misses Nobuo's work on this part. |
Oh, damn, the whole rip has been up since yesterday. If Bobbin hadn't mentioned anything, I wouldn't have checked. Anyway, once again, I thank you for your work, Oddigy! :)
|
damn thanks for this, i like the gilgamesh!
|
With this OST, no memorable themes, highly orchestrated songs, do you think there will be a FFXII piano collection? (Knowing that Sakimoto didn't make any piano collection)

070 100 029 088 032 030 059 045 020 036 079 091 037 064 And many more.. All of the music that sounds like it would be played in cities/dungeons/fields/etc has a very good melody. The more dramatic cutscene music isnt as memorable because it relies more on atmosphere and harmony than melody, which makes it very moving and hard hitting, especially when heard in context with the accompanying scenes. Also, what does being "highly orchestrated" have to do with anything? No FF has ever had high orchestration, and they had a piano album, did they not? |
Has anyone found the Road of Hope song in the PSF2s from the Symphonic Poem orchestrated CD?
I'm hoping that it was originally a song in the game that got orchestrated on that CD. |
Yeah, you're right, Arc the Lad was also highly orchestrated and they made an impressive piano album of it. But I bet this one isn't going to get a piano arrangement.

It plays the biggest part in the opening theme, but that one's not amongst the psf2s... (probably because it's used in an FMV... the 7+ minute long intro) I think someone posted a link to 5 MP3s, of which the opening theme was one in the FFXII thread on the RPG board, so check that out. |
I wonder which psf is the final boss theme (or if it's even in the set...).
030 is gorgeous. And yeah, as pointed out, the opening FMV track is missing from the psfs. Who knows what other cutscene pieces are missing... |
Holy hell... A little fan service never hurt anyone, at least :D

Definitly not full orchestra, but I don't think it's fully synthesiszed, either. Let's hope there are still fully orchestrated songs in FFXII! Though, this Gilgamesh song is pretty kick ass, hehe.
Awesome find oddigy. |
I'm actually listening to the whole set, and so far it's quite good, could have been much more worse. ;) I'm still missing Uematsu somewhat, but Sakimoto is doing a good job here, overall. I'm also very happy, that the "Prologue"-theme is finally returning to the FF-series!
|
Symphonic Poem hope shows up as the End credits song, but since the PSF2s lacked the streamed audio, we don't get to hear it in this collection.
|
It is a shame that I can;t listen to the music.... too bad there isn't an mp3 version out :(.

Sorry about that.... I feel very stupid.

I've taken the liberty of converting the final battle theme to mp3, since in the set it's only three minutes long, and I needed a full version for my CD player. Considering this is the best you can do until the last day in May, I'd advise you pick it up ASAP:
http://s42.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1...J1GHGCI82JHIGS Nine minutes and thirty-six seconds of awesome. |
Wow, that's one very grandiose final battle theme. Thanks, Skate! The song takes a while to kick in but I'm beginning to think that it's supposed to fit in with a multi-tiered final battle sequence like what was done for Parasite Eve (and, I believe, Kingdom Hearts II). Either that or the first three minutes or so are part of some cut-scene prior to the final showdown. The part that sets in around 4:15 is terrific. I like how it's very triumphant and grand, and very much in line with the more medievil theme of FF12. While it's certainly signature Sakimoto, I couldn't help but think how the melody is also reminiscent of Christopher Franke.
Let's just hope we don't fight underwhelming floating eggs with tentacles this time. :( That would be extremely anticlimatic. |
I downloaded the last boss videos. The last boss music starts at 3:11, everything before that is a FMV music.
|
Did anyone happen to grab that YSI link of the boss battle that could send it my way? I have the psf2 set, but I'd like to hear that song. Thanks in advance.
Also, what I've heard of the psf2 set is pretty good. I typically like Sakimoto's work, but this seems above and beyond his usual. I went ahead and pre-ordered the LE soundtrack, but I'm impatient, so it's hard to wait until the end of May. |
096 is the final boss theme in that set, but you HAVE to change the time to at least 9:38 (or set HE to loop indefinatly) to hear it all. In winamp just right click the song and click view file info, then on the right side, change the song length to 9:36, and you have the PSF version of what skate put up.
|
Ah, ok, cool, thanks very much for the tip!
|
there is a clip of battle with gilgamesh at youtube...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrlNjsv9jgs&search=ff12 **WARNING,may contain spoiler**** |
Wow, great ending theme that symphonic poem! But it isn't from Sakimoto's hand...
|
I like how the fact he's even in there is a spoiler. Shit, just because his theme is there doesn't mean he is. Shit... :(
Don't call me stupid |
Good arrangement there by Sakimoto-it's definitely still the Gilgamesh theme we all know and love, but it's orchestration fits in well with the sound of the rest of the soundtrack. Nice.
|
The tracklisting for the OST has been released: (as usual, it could contain spoilers in regard to the final dungeon and stuff)

Oh, my god... I think FFXII is going to be overshadowed by the great master Hamauzu in FFXIII! Musically speaking. I can't believe how fast those games are coming out. I haven't even played FFXII yet. Also can't believe Hamauzu is again composing for a final fantasy game. Wouldn't this give an extra boost to the console ps3?
|
This is a Final Fantasy XII music discussion thread. If you want to discuss the alleged awesomeness of Final Fantasy XIII's soundtrack, even though it hasn't been released yet and you've heard all of one minute of one track that may or may not be part of the game, but it has violins, so shit, it must be awesome, then please go to this thread:
