Little Dick Planet - HAHA CHECK OUT WHAT MY LEVEL LOOKS LIKE HAHA XD
I have to say that this game makes me love my choice of buying a PS3 that much more. It may not have that big name title like FFXIII, MGS4, or Assassin's Creed but it does own that new and fresh idea concept.
The concept itself is easy to understand, make and play levels through an editting array and physics cool looking physics engine. Then play other games created by people across the (http://youtube.com/watch?v=8ZY2vwlh5-g) Playstation 3 Home network or the in game network provided. I can't give too much detail about the game itself at the moment since it will be released in Q1 of 2008, but so far that's the gist of it. Aside from the creativity and customization I just think this is going to be a hell of a fun game to play solo but shine with Co-Op play. The trailers for it can be found at (http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=4491) I hope to get more information on this soon since I really do want this game just off the two demonstration trailers alone. |
I saw this game from a clip of Phil Harrison's keynote at GDC and I was really impressed. This might be one of the key titles that convinces me to buy a PS3 (I wasn't impressed with Home as much as everyone else was). I love how you can publish your game and you can see how many plays it has gotten and it gets ranked and can get comments and all that good community stuff. I might just have to buy a PS3 by the end of the year.
|
From the title I thought this was going to be something like Twinsen's Odyssey 3, but this is pretty cool. It reminds me of a much much much better version of the ActiveWorlds client for the PC. There are obviously the weirdos that are going to exploit this just as badly as the internet, pretending to be different genders, typing weird phrases, etc. but the arcade machines seem to be a very intriguing part of it, as well as the mass customization. It would be refreshing to finally see such a large amount of variance amongst avatars. This has slightly rekindled interest in the PS3 for me. Not yet enough to warrant the price though.
|
I have no idea why everyone's so excited about this. It looks like a platformer with physics, and the ability to create new levels.
So, it's multiplayer sidescrolling Garry's Mod. ........ This sounds like it'd get REAL boring after a week of shitty internet-nerd-made levels. |
just look at trackmania, the concept is somewhat the same, you create your own track and then you share it online where everyone can play it. If I'm not mistaken, trackmania is still pretty popular...
sure now it's not cars racing, but the concept is still there... platformer are pretty popular(hell the biggest named in the video world is a platformer hint he's a plumber) so I really think that this game will be pretty popular. Not to say that the possibility is infinite, so there's hell of a lot to do with those kind of concept. on another not I love the graphic style, I can,t wait just to create my little creature and personalized it and create all sort of crazy stage ^^ |
I don't know about the rest of the population but I know that myself and a bunch of friends like to just sit around and mess around with stuff a lot of time and don't always like having to do complicated things while chatting. Hell a lot of the time we just sit at our 360s and play UNO for like three hours while chatting. Don't know about you, but this is a LOT better then playing UNO.
|
Yeah, I guess I can kind of hear you there.
The thing that's a huge drag though, is that it remains to be seen how much of the customization will be gratis. I mean, if the game debuts at $20 and then the rest is microtransactions, that sounds reasonable. But if they're gonna put this game out for $60 and then you have to pay for all the content... that just ain't right. |
Pretty much the concept idea is to release it on PSN in fall for like $20 with no levels and after a few months they'll make a hard-copy version to sell in retail with like the 100 top rated levels bundled with the game on the disc for like $40 or something.
|
The HOME trailer is indicating that it's gonna be possible to play Little Big Planet online with other HOME fellows. That's awesome!!

Actually they showed them launching Heavenly Sword from HOME at the press conference too, and it doesn't even have MP gameplay.

Well, HOME is kind of built around that PS button. I mean, if it didn't do these things I don't think I'd bother with it.

Giving this one a kick up the backside, since they've now announced some of the pre-order goodness you'll get over in the States:
PlayStation.Blog » LittleBigPlanet: Pre-order Goodness The Kratos and Nariko Sackboys look absolutely excellent. I'm now hoping they announce what we're likely to get here in the UK and Europe soon. |
oh snap nariko!
I wasn't going to pre-order it because I thought "it'll be there when it gets released" but this looks like a small but good enough reason to do so. Although given the small reputation that sony has with having screwy updates and just fucking things up this year, I kinda get hesitant about getting this upon release since it might come up to "this is too good to be true....(Hops to online which has crashed it's servers) |
Quote:
Also, they're supposedly "working on" making real Sackboys. I'd pay any amount of money for one. God, this is my most anticipated game in years. |
I've seen rumours that there's potentially real Sackboys being considered/made. I think someone asked one of the Media Molecule guys and they hinted that it's being looked at as a possibility. But yes, if there's a special edition with real Sackboy I'm fucking there.
Edge-online has a really good article on LBP at the moment, which talks about some of the tools for creating stuff and it sounds fantastic. The fact you can, and they have, made a simple computer just using their Popit system is fucking amazing. Can't wait for this game to drop. |
I'm just wondering; I know you can create your own levels and such, but can you create or customize your own Sackboy?
|
No one cares about Nureko or Kratas.
Can I get Nathan Drake. |
Yes, I'm actually about to prop Megalith.
[prop]Megalith for requesting a Nate Drake sackboy.[/prop] World has ended. Hell is quite chilly. I'd like to see Ratchet, Clank, Jak, Daxter and Sly all thrown in there too. Sony's platforming stars should all be a part of LBP. |
Quote:
I think it may have been in an issue of Edge, but I've seen LBP sketches for Sackboys that included versions that were based on everything from Mario to Snake and Cybory Ninja (from MGS) to a whole. How many of those will make it into the final thing, who knows, but I'd imagine ones based on Sony properties are quite likely. Scarlet: You will be able to yes. I believe you'll be able to pick things like a base Sackboy then costume bits and accessories to customise the Sackboy. These pre-order bonus things appear to be slightly more detailed all in one costumes, and do like quite cool. |
I'm definitely getting this pre-order (over Fable2/GoW2 since I might not get my 360 so soon) if possible where I am. It's a confirmed sale for me if they included actual Sackboys (plushies, not hard models).
I'm liking the Kratos Sackboy, nice details on the blades too. |
Quote:
|
Quote:
Sony's working pretty hard to ensure that stuff like Mario-esque sackboys don't happen, if only to prevent Nintendo (and others who might get infringed upon) from throwing their arms up at LittleBigPlanet. |
Man, it's amazing how much can change in a month. I went from not even caring about this game to definitely pre-ordering it. Damn, October can't come fast enough.
|
Quote:
Then again, people have made some impressive approximations in Soul Calibur IV's character creation kit, so you never know. |
Can you pre-order this guy on Sony's online store? Is that the idea?
|
Quote:
After all, Mm isn't making the characters, the users are. It's not their fault if the users are very good with the toolset. |
Quote:
Your sackboy is just a sackboy. Whether you make them male or female is all down to watch kind of clothing, eyes and additional items you attach to them. I've been playing the internal code at work and saw a workmate of mine had made their sackboy look like a devil and attempted to create a level that's supposed to look like hell (only cute). We were unable to apply stickers to the ground (and thus unable to color the scenery red), but hopefully that's different in later code. |
Quote:
However, Mm will be providing the full costumes, like these pre-order ones and stuff like the Hellghast (from Killzone) ones that made an appearance previously. I was saying that Mm themselves won't be making ones based on other characters like Mario. What the community comes up with though, well that's a different matter altogether. I can't wait to see. Q: Damn you for getting your hands on this already. :p |
I look so much forward to this game. The new article in Edge just added to my enthusiasm. The level creator sound absolutely stunning, and I can't wait to createmy own pseudo Mario levels, with added puzzles!
|
Holy shit Q, that seems to be a huge potential for in depth customization. I only hope they provide a bunch of parts for it. And I think they will. This game is <3
|
Quote:
This is the old video I was talking about. They've changed it a bit since then, but the customization should be the same. Not sure if they removed the ability to use your own images for stickers since then because HAHA PICTURE OF PENIS
|
OH MY GAWD.
I WANT TO PLAY THIS NAO. I hope they don't remove the sticker thing though, it'll kill off huge possibilities of custom texture on objects. Also lol GFF stage comin liek wut |
Quote:
|
Yeah I read about that. Pretty much you can make obscene levels but you can't share them or you risk getting reported. You can give those kinds of levels passwords so only your friends can play them. Something along those lines.
|
Yeah, they set that up to help prevent infringement. What happens is if you share that level, someone can flag it and it'll get reviewed within like, 12 hours of the flag being raised (like someone reporting a bad post on GFF). If the Sony mod deems the level inappropriate, the level's removed, deleted, and I think the user gets some sort of infraction, like a warning to other player's about that player's custom levels.
|
I'll just make an Xbox 360 level where you have to hop over flashing red rings.
Would I be infringing. |
|
Just posted on their site as LordNihlus. Apparently the Sackboy plushies are quite in demand. I wasn't the only one requesting them.
|
Speaking of plushies, have anyone seen some patterns for them? I've seen a lady who's knitted one, but I thought I'd try my hand at making one myself...
Brown mutant sackboy comin liek w00t... |
Sackboy needs to become Sony's official gaming mascot. The marketing markets itself to the market!
|
Quote:

|
Well, we'll see what I can do. I'm going to buy some metres of some knitted-like fabric and experiment with it. All results'll end up in my journal.
(And I'm planning to recreate the first levels of Super MArio Bros., complete with a mechanical Bowser. Yeah!) |
So EBGames/Gamestop has the Kratos sockboy skin for pre-orders anyone have any clue who has the Nariko one avilable?
I was sad it was a in-game skin model and not a plushie :( |
Since Amazon has the strategy guide thingy, I imagine the other three items will be split between Best Buy, Circuit City, and probably Game Crazy or something.
|
As much as I loathe pre ordering things from GameStop, I cannot resist the lure of having a Kratos Sackboy in my game.
Unless we get further news on the other pre orders, I think I will be pre ordering from GameStop. |
Gametrailers - LittleBigPlanet - Dream Trailer
Still my favorite trailer of the game, even with all the new stuff coming out of Leipzig's Games Convention. Definitely a day one purchase for me (should probably preorder it), though I should buy that PS3 too. |
With every new video I see from this game the more the possibilities seem endless
Gametrailers.com - LittleBigPlanet Sackzilla Trailer by Boringman54 Now I really can't wait to see what people can come up with |
This game just continues to look more and more fantastic. I can't wait to get my hands on and try messing around with stuff. I really hope some people here pick it up too so we can do some collaborative messing about. ^^
|
Quote:
I was basically hooked upon this game, because I liked one of their previous ones: Ragdoll Kung Fu. Adding it on with huge customization of whatever you want to make is a big plus. |
I'm definitely getting this on day one, I'm merely waiting for more details on the pre-order bonuses so I can decide which store to pick it up from.
|
Excellent stuff. I'm almost certain I've got Kago on my Triple friends list, have I got you on there also Rock? If not, we should, because I feel LBP muck about is almost a necessity.
|
Wow, I thought I had most of the people from GFF on my Friends List, but somehow I missed you! I definitely need to fix that.
|
I have all kinds of plans for levels, but then I see a new feature, and then I get all these new ideas. But still, I'll make a giant mechanical Bowser on day one. That's my goal.
|
Quote:
|
Can't believe I missed this, but it seems GameCrazy is getting the LittleBigPouch pre-order bonus. Now we just need word on who's getting the stickers and the Nariko Sackgirl (probably the one I'll get if no real Sackboy plushies are announced).

Coming from Leipzig, it plays every bit as fun as it looks.
No big surprise there. Teaming up to get a platform across a chasm has never been this much fun. Plus it really looks just amazing. Guess I'll really need at least one more controller for this one. |
That's good news. It wouldn't have stopped me buying the game, but that would have been rather irritating. Guess Skills and untwist his knickers now. :p
|
Well, that's good then. I was worried about not being able to share levels with you, Omagnus. Would have annoyed me greatly if that was the case.

few cam videos from GC
Gametrailers.com - LittleBigPlanet - GC 2008: Creation Time Lapse Gameplay HD (Cam) Gametrailers.com - LittleBigPlanet - GC 2008: Fiery Ferris Wheel Gameplay HD (Cam) Looks like a free build mode for multiplayer which may get annoying with all the players in the screen but also pretty damn fun. Also shows a glimpse of the pause menu which shows a "Videos and Voice over" option which I'm not sure what it does exactly. |
EuroGamer have a cool interview up with Alex Evans from Mm:
Media Molecule's Alex Evans Interview - Page 1 // PS3 /// Eurogamer - Games Reviews, News and More |
Damn, I can't wait. I'll see if I can't pull some strings and get my hands on a preview code or something:/
|
In case anyone missed it a few days ago, Nariko Sackgirl has been announced for Best Buy.
I went to one of the BBs in town today to see if they had the vouchers yet, but I didn't see any. Once they do get them in I'll definitely get one, though I don't know if I'll be getting the game from BB (I already have the code for Kratos, but I'm definitely not getting the game from GameStop). |
News both good and bad (to an extent on both counts):
Quote:
Shame that the online level editor won't be available from launch, but I can live without it for a little bit if we get the game a little bit sooner (and we will at least get the functionality down the line). The spaceman costume looks quite cool. |
I was just reading about that yesterday. While I am kinda miffed that one of the game's biggest and most touted features won't be available from the start (and, since no timetable was given for when it would come out, it could be weeks), there's still plenty to do otherwise that it won't be that noticeable (at first). I can still make levels offline with my sister, and hopefully the time will allow for most people to become good enough with the level editor so that people can work well together when they do finally go online.
|
Thanks to Taco I've managed to get a hold of a beta key, which I managed to download last night (eventually). Sadly not had a chance to install and play it, and now I'm off to work. Will definitely be giving that a whirl tonight after work.
|
theres a beta
Well I just preordered mine for the nariko sackgirl and can't wait till I get my hands on the game. Checked out the intro for the beta as well with all the picture in credits level which seemed interesting. Just like what people did with spore, I'm guessing some levels created will be on the mature side of things. |
Game is awesome, confirmed. Stephen Fry's narration = <3
|
Hopefully I'll get a key today, and then I'm going to create something retarded.
A question, Omagnus: The beta is limited, but how limited is it? Can you make things we've seen in the trailers or are any obvious functions missing? |
I've not got far enough in to hit any obvious walls. You can play various story levels and I imagine they are limited after not too long (though I've played about 3 or 4 and have about 7 unlocked). I've played with the level creation stuff and I've played some custom levels online with a couple of people. I've not actually played all the various tutorial bits and pieces that teach you all the tools they give you access to (with the excellent Stephen Fry narration).
|
I'm sorry, what? Stephen Frye narrates this?
|
Quote:
|
Ah, damn. Well, I hate to resort to begging, but if anyone here finds a spare beta code, I'd be happy to accept it. And similar, if I get my hands on more than one code, I'll happily share them here.
|
Well, the US beta hasn't given out codes yet as far as I know, so we'll see if the opportunity arises for more.
|
Disregard my previous post, as I suck cocks...
LBP is adorable. I've spend some time just watching tutorials and Stephen Fry does a bang up job narrating them. So much <3! It seems like my first SMB or Donkey Kong rip-off is near:33: |

When I discovered how to make my Donkey Kong-freak throw flaming, rolling barrel-things, I literally whooped. |
Quote:
Whilst the idea of user generated content is nice, has anyone here actually played any levels or are you all just building things? Because otherwise, all you've got is a generic map editing programme with some nice looking pre-designed objects. In this whole thread, there's been very little mention of how the game actually plays. Is the platforming element any good? Is there any sort of story at all? I mean, would anyone have bought the Forge without Halo 3 attached? No, but from reading this thread it seems a bit like what you're doing with this game. |
That's what people did with Quake III, too =/
|
Quote:
As for user created stuff, how's this for something a little more interactive: Tetris falls into LittleBigPlanet - PS3 Fanboy |
Ha ha, that Tetris is pretty inventive. Still though, do you not think once the novelty value has worn off the interest in this will drop considerably? Is there some kind of rating system wherebuy you can grade other people's creations because that at least will preclude having to wade through 30,000 shitty copies of the first level of Mario to find something decent because you know that that and levels shaped like cocks are going to be the majority of the user generated output.
I guess it is only a cheap game but if I owned a PS3 and was potentially in the market for this, I think I'd want to see a bit more definition to the actual game experience before I bought it. That said, I never was a fan of platform games so even if it was an awesome stand-alone game I probably would think twice before picking it up. It will be interesting to see the kinds of things people come up with though once the initial wave of utter shite passes and only people who've really got to grips with it are still making things. |
As far as controls go its the basic side scroller controller it seems. Jump, punch, grab.
And from what I heard you have to complete the default levels in order to get more part for creating levels. But yeah the main focus will be the user created content and as any 2d platformer, it'll only be as fun as the level created. |
Quote:
Also there's a quick reporting system for reporting anything offensive, which Mm can then check and act upon, and I think you can risk having your account banned if you get done for too many things like 'cock' levels or objects. |
Hey all you people that missed out sneaking into the European beta, according to 1UP.com's newsletter there will be a little giveaway of some NA LBP beta keys.
Quote:
|
Actually there are a bunch of NA sites that still have keys to give away, see the PlayStation blog.
|
It's pretty annoying. Every time I try to sleep, my brain throws up this new idea for a level.
Apart from that, I've tried a few of the user generated levels, and they're damn solid, I tell you. As far as I can tell, most of the levels made by GAF members should almost be included in the main game. Little Big Collosus or what's its name is very impressive. |
well tons of sites today are giving away beta codes for those who can't wait some 20 days for the real game to come out. I've tried getting a few from some sites but with the lack of details, I have no effing idea in how to get them.
|
The official site seems swamped enough to the point that you'd swear they're dishing out keys, but I can't find where for the life of me, either.
I've been keeping my eye on a few blogs, too, but nobody's said anything about any other sites yet. |
well gamepro seems to be the popular choice today since they announced beta codes being given away this morning but their servers keep crashing as i expected and should be back up and running normally within the hour. Not sure what we have to do to get one of these codes but they're referring to it as a "contest"

I'm not awesome enough like Q to have the full game yet, but I'll settle for BETA CODE OUTTA NOWHERE for now.
Holy shit I never expected that to happen, since I figured all the places who were giving them out had done so already. I have to say, this is the first time I've actually gotten anything from being a member of the PlayStation Underground since I got three free issues of OPM back when I joined years ago. I wish they would have sent it earlier since it's already ending this weekend, but beggars can't be choosers (and the full game is coming out in about two weeks anyway). |
I would suggest trying to have a game online with the beta, see how it plays, but I've decided to hold out until the full release because I don't want to get into it too much before I have the full thing.

That was fun Shenlon. Just in case you haven't got my message yet, I was the one wearing the Elizabethan costume with the hat and stuff, and my sister was the bunny girl.
Anyway, I played the beta for about three hours today with my sister, and that was definitely the best multiplayer experience I've had on the PS3. We spent most of the time going through the first set of story levels, and after that we played a few user-created levels. All in all it was as great as I expected it to be, and it made me long for the full game even more. |
i didn't expect for two players from the same household to be able to enter online at the same time so yeah it was fun with four people at once. Didn't know who the random fourth person was though.
I wish I learned to hit first so I could cause a bit of mayhem but dragging other players just seemed so funny. This is seriously the first multiplayer online game which made me laugh out loud for its overall cuteness. Great fun ^_^ |
[23:40:02] <Q-chan> wow
[23:40:13] <Q-chan> LBP's story mode is a tad short [23:40:54] <Q-chan> doesn't outstay its welcome though, but the levels are so great you wish there'd be more as you know no one else will make them that good So yeah, savour the story mode levels as they are quite, quite wonderful. The later stages keep outdoing themselves in imagination and completely marvelous contraptions the team have come up with. This is the most fun I've had playing with a friend since Serious Sam over LAN. It's not so much that the story mode is "short" short, but it's because you will just keep playing level after wonderful level that you'll be reaching the finale fairly quickly. You of course have a certain amount of replay value since finding 100% of the items in each level and getting through them without dying each unlock more stuff for you. But the levels really are so amazing that it can only end much too soon. |
Everyone, I have an announcement to make -
Dizzy is a rockstar. Thanks for the beta key, dude. It worked perfectly. |
Some new sackboy costumes have been revealed:
http://www.opimage.co.uk/u/OmagnusPrime/lbp_seph.jpg http://www.opimage.co.uk/u/OmagnusPrime/lbp_snake.jpg That sound you just heard was a million fanboys and fangirls going crazy over the first picture. (Note: I've not seen anywhere yet how you'll be able to get/unlock/purchase these). |

I can already see hundreds of people online mixing and matching those costumes.
Its alot more creative to stick the stickers and decorations on your sackboy though which i didn't know i could do until I did it by accident. I also played the God of War level today, it was seriously the best one so far. If your in the beta and haven't played that level yet, go to it now o-o |

Delayed one week because of two songs containing words that are in the Qur'an.
I'd be angry, but I guess Sony is doing the right thing here (although couldn't they just have a mandatory patch when you start up the game?). Also, with the amount of time we've waited for this game, what's another week? |
When will developers learn not to put shit from the Qur'an in video games (ie. OoT Fire Temple), though transcripts I've read in the case of LBP make it somewhat displeasing of the lyrics actually being said.

This is hilarious. People who got ahold of the game before it was recalled are trying their hardest to make a quick profit. :tpg: |
Quote:
|
Anyone who would be offended by the Qur'an references aren't allowed to play video games anyway. But I understand where they are coming from. In this fucked up day and age its a far better decision for them to just deal with this now on their own rather than waiting for someone to make a big fucking deal about it because they see an easy 5 million out of it.
|
What I don't get is the damn game was in beta for a decent amount of time and now they decide to recall for an edit and reprint days before release. You'd think that they would have taken care of that before-hand if they thought it was going to be a big deal, instead of waiting to just about literally the last minute to do so.

Haha! One of the walmarts here in Sacramento did a midnight release of the game. I managed to snag a copy even though the employee couldn't pull the game up on the computer as it kept denying the sell. The manager came over and did an override and sold me the game anyway. Well I just beat the story mode stages and they do get harder. It's especially harder trying to get through some of the final ones without dying. I'm just doing that to get the extra items since the servers aren't online it seems, or maybe its just me.
My favorite song has to be from the first stage of the wedding. Here are some skins you get for progressing through the story. Spoiler:
|
GameStop customers should be able to pick up their reservations tomorrow. Might call your stores and find out if they got it.
|
Looks like EB Games Canada got them in too, just got back from picking up my pre-order. Unfortunately I gotta go back on Mon or Tues to pick up my Kratos code. BTW is anyone else getting more than just the code for their pre-order? The clerk said that apparently we're also getting a t-shirt, poster, and some other thing, forgot what it was.
Spoiler:
|
well I just went through all the main levels without dying. The last costume is pretty funny and the last boss was easy compared to the previous levels.
Hopefully when the servers come online we can form a party for get some of the team prizes and trophies. |
Nooo! The game made me download a patch that took out the lyrics to that offensive song. ;_; I like the version with the lyrics better but oh well. At least it's still on my blu-ray disc. I guess this means we're getting close to the servers going live then.
|
wait what? Thats what the patch was about? Thats bull, I enjoyed the song the way it was. I didn't even know they could do something like that with the music already in the game
|
Nice. Hopefully the people who bought the recalled copies on Ebay are feeling like shit now.
|
Wait, they just put out a patch that removes the offensive lyrics? Then what in the hell was the point of recalling the game?
|
For the folks who don't have an internet connection.
|
Exactly. Even though it's patched on my PS3 it's not like I can't get around it. The patch doesn't overwrite what is burned onto the blu-ray disc. If I really cared that much I could just ignore the patch and play offline. It's still smarter to do a recall and replace it since people with the final versions of the game have no way of hearing that track (and less Muslims will be offended)
I shall cherish my uncut copy of the game for eternity! |
I can pretty much confirm that other than whatever online components the patch brought, overall IT SUCKS.
It did away with the lyrics which isn't a big deal as Miles mentioned, btw don't try deleting the game data so you can try to play the qua'ran song because it will corrupt and delete your saved data without the new patch. Anyways, I'm a cheap person who uses a ps2 usb adapter to play some ps3 games that support it and thus saving me a 40 dollar purchase for a dual shock. The new patch did away with the ps2 controller support and now I can't play with anyone in my house anymore to get the team objects. Now I have to wait for the servers to go online for those  Additional Spam: Good news my friends, The servers are up today so I'll be looking at ya'll for some team plays so we can knock out those 4 player trophies. I know chato, miles, cobalt, jazz and many more have the game that are in my friends list so be ready for invites =p |
Ouch, the servers have been crap today (as expected). I managed to play a flawless couple of games in the morning on my break, but when I got home at 5:00pm, the game was nigh-unplayable. Giant 45-second pauses in the lobby menu, online levels not opening after waiting 5 minutes, not being able to connect to certain people, etc...
The launch week explosion that happens to every online game has definitely happened to LBP, and what's worse is that if you're logged in at all to PSN, it'll lag your single-player game as well. Good thing I got my gametime in on the weekend so I can sit out these server problems for the next "however-many-days-it-takes" until they fix it. I really hope they get this experience as lag-free as possible, because the little bit I played in the morning was pure bliss. Jumping into a random online level, having a couple of other people join in and then actually stick around as you pick another cool random online level is A HELLUVA LOT OF FUN. |
Well, I guess I'm glad I missed out then. I was tempted to call in sick if the servers were live but I guess I'm glad my guilty conscience told me no.
|
Server issues aside, here's what my impressions of the game have been so far (Not done with Story mode quite yet, played some online levels).
The game looks great. They really did a fantastic job with the textures, making cloth look like cloth, wood look like wood, and so forth. Sackboy's expressions are priceless, and being able to control them makes it even better. Story levels are amazingly well-crafted, challenging, and charming. Each makes use of the available mechanics in the game extremely well. I love the different environments, especially the desert. The soundtrack took me by surprise. I went into it knowing nothing, and was greeted by The Go! Team in the first non-tutorial level (I STILL haven't unlocked that track). The variety and quality of the music in each region is awesome. I hope they release a compilation soundtrack or something. If not, I'll just go investigate the different artists myself. What I don't like, however, are the controls. Level construction is effective, and it really feels like they put a lot of time and polish into that. However, level playing is not. The biggest flaw is with the three different "layers" you can swap between. When there are multiple objects close together in different layers, jumping between them can be tricky as the game doesn't seem to know which one you're trying to go for. This has killed me countless times and it's getting really frustrating. I hope they patch this to be a little better at some point. Overall the game's a fun experience. Not the game to end all games, or even Game of the Year material, but definitely worth the time and money. |
This may be the most fun I've had with a game in years. Purely enjoyable.
|
The soundtrack is the second star of the game imo.
Once I was able to connect to some other players i thought it would work if I invited Jazz, so sorry about the repetitive invites. I thought it would work after a while ^^ was only able to get 2 games in with chato but the lag was literally killing us. Seriously, the beta servers ran much better than they did last night but I guess it was because the game was a lot more empty. Playing the game in single player is just as impossible if your connected online and even more difficult if your creating a level since rewinding (undoing) takes forever. |

I've been playing the game with my sister and enjoying it (hands down the best game I've played on the PS3), but I haven't played it online yet since my internet keeps fucking up. The cable company should be sending someone over today to hopefully fix it, so I should be able to play online without any problems soon.
|
I've played some online today and so far I've played with a full party of four with little to no lag. Only major lag was when connecting with a player for the first time then after the loading it ran fine.
Also I didn't know the patch changed the controls for the jetpack. I was shaking my controller like a madman until i saw that all I had to press O to remove it. |
I thought that was a change from the beta to the final game, since I noticed it even before I downloaded the patch. Either way, I kinda hate it, since I got used to shaking the controller to do it, and it just seemed more fun. I guess people who don't have controllers with Sixaxis complained or something though, since they were kinda screwed.
|
really? because I beat story mode before the new patch and I don't remember using the O button to get off the jetpacks until today. And since the took out the ps2 controller support, who wouldn't be using the axis. Unless the new dual shocks don't have motion sensors?
|
Well I think there have been two patches released so far, and people who got one of the recalled copies got the game totally unpatched while people who got the regular version already had the first patch installed. I have one of the regular copies and it's always been like that for me, so they must have made that change in the first patch.
As for Sixaxis, I believe it's only in official Sony controllers, so if you're using a third party PS3 controller you still wouldn't be able to remove the jetpack by shaking it. |
I just got the game today and it's great so far. Too bad I can't try online mode as every time I start up the game it had trouble connecting to the server. @_@
Now I just need to make more time to play the game. ;_; |
I just picked this(and Fall Out 3) up a little while ago. About to install them into my PS3. Since this is the first game I'm getting that's worth going online with I also got a cord long enough to run it through my router. It's nice to have something else for my PS3(I only had Disgaea 3 and NHL09 up to this point).
|
I finally got to play some online today (every time I previously tried it kept borking out on me), and honestly the lag kinda kills it. It's not unplayable, but it's nowhere near as fun as it is playing offline multiplayer. Even though the lag wasn't prevalent all throughout, at the times it did occur it could be pretty lethal (it lead to me dying almost as much as the levels did).
|
Lag wasn't bad for me at all. Miles and I had a game going on last night that was pretty keen, too.
|
This guy is incredible. Just earlier I was decrying the fact that your moves essentially limit the range of playstyles you can support in your created levels (ie, no pickups like in Metroid games, etc). And here's this guy just walzing past any trouble with some ingenius solutions. I have it sussed how you move the craft around, but how he does the shooting (you press R2 or L2) is a completely mystery to me. Absolutely brilliant. I just played the level and it handles amazingly well. I am going to keep an eye out for this guy. |

Also hey guys :) I've been chatting with some of you on PSN, but I haven't stopped in on this thread yet. Just wanted to pimp some my levels if that's okay... The one I just finished last night: Level Name: Woodland Alien's Jam Session Creator Name: CobaltKatze Basically what I created was a looping piece of music, about four bars, that up to three players can play on several parts. It's kind of like Wii Music, but all LBP style and lacking crappy royalty-free tunes. Gaining, well, my own little groove. I then built a sort of adventure game style level around it with a few seekrits to find. (Apologies for the shoddy quality camera phone pics, it's the best I can do.) http://leifchappelle.com/misc/WAJS1-alienintro.jpg Starts off with my lil mascot character the Woodland Alien giving an intro spiel. He made some instruments and booked a show at a popular club to try em out. http://leifchappelle.com/misc/WAJS2-backalley.jpg The back alley is pretty barren save for the garbage bin. http://leifchappelle.com/misc/WAJS3-greenroom.jpg In the greenroom, the intercom tells you to wait a bit for the opening band to finish up and gives a lil tutorial on how to play the instruments (grab them in rhythm!). The sofa here is very important if you want to get all the points... http://leifchappelle.com/misc/WAJS4-onstage.jpg There's a bit of scripting once you get on stage, but eventually the lights go on and DJ Sack starts up the drum loop. At this point it's totally sandbox mode for three players to jam away on the instruments (Standup Bass, Rhodes Piano, and Synth Vocals). Best I could do given the paltry assortment of music SFX :) http://leifchappelle.com/misc/WAJS5-crowdsurfing.jpg When done jamming, the players can take a stage dive into the audience to crowd surf to the exit. There's also score bubbles you can get from swinging on the lights... as well as a deadly mosh pit up front. http://leifchappelle.com/misc/WAJS6-zipline.jpg Once outside, the exit is just a zip line away~ Give it a shot and let me know what you think :D --- I also have two other stages up there from the Beta: Woodland Alien's Drum Kit http://leifchappelle.com/misc/WADK-stageview.jpg Basically a looping drum machine you can "program" and mess around with, also guided along by the Alien. It's the 1st level chronologically before Jam Session. LittleDigDuggit http://leifchappelle.com/misc/LDD-digdugstart.jpg A journey into the realm of gaming's past to tackle an LBP style remake of the 1st level of Dig Dug. Kill all the enemies as fast as possible to proceed~ |

As I said, I can tell how you move the craft around, but how pressing the triggers (enabling you to move your hands) can suddenly trigger an event like launching a glass piece (the shot your craft fires) is a mystery to me and all the better for it. Anyone who hasn't played the level yet, I urge you to give it a try, it's quite charming. The level name is Libidius.jp, but searching with that brought me no results. Search with the creators name RRR30000 and you should find it. He has an earlier prototype level where the craft is on the end of a horizontal stick, but it's not nearly as polished. |
Just tried the Libidius.jp level, very very cool. Did anyone try this guy's Tetris level (TETRIN.jp) as well? Pretty neat, but very difficult to get the blocks to align the way you want
Quote:
|
If you hold R1 from the start and don't let go, R2 and L2 fire. Give it a try.
I, however, didn't realize you could let go of R1. It caused the craft to disappear in the prototype level, so I assumed it was the same here. Silly me. EDIT: Ah, you can let go and hold R1 again without a problem. So, while holding R1, pressing R2 or L2 fires. Not sure why or if that's even intentional. |
Wow, that's actually a really cool discovery! Held items that can still be activated is a huge boon to a lot of design ideas.
|
My copy of LBP arrived today, but unfortunately I can't connect to the servers (no clue why, I suspect they've not been turned on yet since the release is tomorrow, though PSN being shit can't be ruled out) so no online access means I've given up on it for today.
|
The LBP servers are down for maintenance right now since they're preparing for the European launch and another huge influx of traffic.
Play the story mode in the meantime, it really is awesome and totally doable without online :p |
So I just picked up the game. Anyone down to get a 4 man multi session online tonight?
|
Dunno about everyone else but the servers are down for me. So if they're up later, I'd be in it for a game tonight. I need some of the team objects from other stages anyway. Already have the 4x player objects from the collectors level and I might have or might not have gotten the dragon head from there. I just saw it while randomly going through my list of items.
|
I'm down for later tonight as well. I'll probably be online sometime around 8PM Central Time, so anytime after that is good for me.
|
OK, I'm getting fed up with finding 2x areas and not being able to do them. Anyone fancy doing some multiplayer at some point over the next week or so?

I was able to get the 4x ones by luckily getting into a good team.
I thought I had Omagnus on my psn list but I guess not. I'll add ya so we can get some of those things whenever I see ya online since I'm missing a majority of them anyway. |
Just a heads up. Do not jump on super-fast spinning wheels of death:
Apparently online jackasses are hosting games and trying to sucker people into corrupting their data with this glitch. |

I've almost finished work on my first level creation, which is a little minigame I've made. I just need to finish off the level decoration and what-not and then I can see about publishing it. |

Jesus. I've been without internet ever since I moved into my new place in Minneapolis 3 weeks ago - I'm going fucking insane here.
Have they released the patch that allows creating levels online with a friend? Also, have the servers been improved at all? Last time I logged in, everything lagged pretty significantly when launching a game... |
I don't think the patch that allows for online co-op level creation is coming until December. As for the servers, they still aren't perfect, but they were much better the last few times I played than from when I first played.
|

Also, I haven't quite beaten the game yet, but I decided to start messing around in the creation mode. It's pretty amazing how deep it goes. I have an idea for a battleship-themed level, so I spent some time last night making an AA gun that I'll probably incorporate into the final level. It was neat figuring out what all I could add to it, until eventually I got both barrels to recoil in an alternating pattern that matched the fire, with accompanying "boom" noises. I synced the motor up with a sound emitter to make a large servo motor noise as it rotates to aim too. Fun stuff. |
I'll be receiving my copy later, cant wait to try it on with you all :D
|
Just in case people missed it, Street Fighter LBP costumes are coming.
While these look freaking nice, I can't bring myself to pay $6 just to get all of them. I don't know why they have to charge so much money for something that essentially does nothing. God, the DLC for this game is worse than Pain, which charges you a $1 just to get additional characters. If they're gonna charge this much for these things, they should give you some additional content, like objects you can use in your own levels (the only thing that's done that so far is the God of War pre-order bonus DLC, and it was free). And in other news, I keep hearing mid-December for the online co-op level creation patch, so hopefully it's up by next week at the latest. I still haven't really tried my hand at the level creation though (been too busy with school and stuff), so maybe this will motivate me. |
Yeah, I dig the costumes and the Street Fighter ones are pretty awesome, but there's no way I'm paying for those, certainly not the kind of money they're asking for. If it was like £1 for all of them, sure why not, even though they do nothing, but when you're getting into the £4-6 range, fuck that.
|
Some pretty big updates today, MGS Costume Pack and Premium Level Pack coming next week, and a couple of patches have been released.
In regards to the MGS stuff, I have to say THANK GOD they finally made some DLC worth buying. Not the costume pack, of course (still not paying $6 for a bunch of costumes, Metal Gear or not), but the premium level pack. You actually get a costume (Gurlokovich Soldier, which actually looks more awesome to me than all of the stuff in the MGS costume pack except maybe Meryl), a bunch of level creation stuff (including some music tracks and some kind of paintball gun thingy that looks pretty cool), and probably best of all, 5 new story mode levels (and one challenge level). All this comes complete with 12 new trophies, all for just $6, which is a way better way of spending $6 on this game than the costume packs have been. Definitely buying this shit day one. The patches, on the other hand, seemed to be more on the technical side, fixing things such as moderation issues, the 'Wheel of Death' glitch, and improving the search feature and peripheral support. The only real change most people are gonna see is the new in-game store, which lets you buy things from inside the store instead of having to exit out to the PS Store. Pretty good stuff, but since nothing was mentioned about the online co-op level creation, I guess that ain't happening until next year now (a shame, but with all this other new stuff they're adding I'll give them a pass for now). |
The paintball stuff is fairly interesting, will be cool to see how that plays out and how people will be able to utilise it in their own level creations. I know I've seen quite a few requests for some way of shooting, and a paintball gun seems like the perfect solution of adding a 'weapon' to the world of LBP without making it all about violence and what-not.
And yeah, one thing I'm not liking is how expensive the costume packs are. I really dig the Street Fighter costumes, but £5 for them is a fucking joke. If it was £1 for the pack, then sure, why not, but £5, fuck off. |
I agree with the price of costumes. I've not bought a costume and will refuse to, unless it is completely un-avoidable awesome (Sephiroth). That t-shirt you could buy in the first week? Hah...
The MGS pack is very cool, though. I hope that publishers will get the idea of promoting future games with some new levels and stuff for LBP. Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2 seems like obvious additions. And though I can't make an interesting level, even if my life depended on it, I'll still have fun messing with the gun and stuff. (Hopefully the music tracks include Crying to the Night. CRYYYYING TO THE NIIIIIGHT!) |
For me, it depends on the costume set. I simply could not resist the premise of a wrapping paper sackboy along with Christmas themed creation components. On the other hand, Loco Roco costumes and $3 for stuff like the penguin costume are easy passes.
I was also just wondering if levels can give costume parts as prizes, seeing as how I saw this one level that gave you a tank after you completed it as a community item or something. I missed the turkey head, so I made sure to get both halves of the Santa Costume before they expire on the PSN store. |
If you haven't yet, I strongly suggest checking out the trailer for the LBP MGS Pack: Gametrailers.com - LittleBigPlanet - Metal Gear Solid 4 Content Pack Trailer HD
Looks likes some cool additions. I'll definitely be picking that pack up me thinks. |
If they released more packs like mgs then I would be tempted to buy them all. Unlike the costume packs which are nothing but show.
I just hope they're not like 15 dollars or something like that |
Well the MGS pack is only $6, so I imagine that's gonna be the standard now. I guess they could vary based on how much content is actually in the pack, but I can't really see anything going as high as $15 (though maybe if they had a bundle like the MGS costume pack and level pack together for $10, I could see that being doable).
|
Nevermind, apparently it's out now. Time to go spend even more money in the PSN Store after buying Lumines. |
They won't allow you to buy it unless you can demonstrate you can pull the bomb cart the CORRECT DIRECTION.

I have to say I'm loving the level pack so far :) |
Ah, basic reading comprehension (and spelling it seems) goes out the window this holiday. I thought you wrote that you weren't going to buy it. I apologise.
But it is rather good, isn't it? (I even splashed out for the costume pack and Screaming Mantis looks goood:3 ) |
Agreed. I wonder just how many people are going to be using the Screaming Mantis thing too ><
|
Just finished acing all the levels and getting all the items in the MGS pack with my sister, and I definitely have to say that it's awesome and worth the $6. Hell, The Paintinator alone might be worth that (we would have finished the levels much quicker if we didn't spend half the time just shooting each other). I don't know how good future level packs are gonna be, but if they keep up this quality I'll gladly keep paying them.
|
For anyone still running around and playing, I've published the short introductory chapter of a planned five level arc.
It can be found under my created levels (username: Denicalis) or a search for The Search for El Dosacko. Enjoy. |
made a new shirt!
http://i41.tinypic.com/qz3i2a.jpg |
Didn't your parents ever tell you not to draw on your clothes?
Congratulations though. You've taken the incredibly tragic act of wearing a shirt with the name of someone else's product on it and made it even more tragic by printing it yourself. That's rampant fanboyism taken to hitherto unseen levels. I bet the chicks dig it though, huh? |
LoL I make them for fanboys actually if you know what I mean $$$
|
I'm sure the copyright holders *love* you.
|
no such thing as copyright shit in China XD
|
That's a good point. I had automatically assumed you were using something like cafepress to print those. I'm sure the sweatshops are infinitely cheaper for you.
|
Holy shit - Contra remade.
This, right here, is why everyone was so fucking pumped about LittleBigPlanet when it was announced.
...this is also the reason why everyone will despise the game when the moderators take it down in the next few hours. |
At last, NES-era gameplay has come to the PS3!
|
If they wanted to play Contra, wouldn't it have been much quicker for them to download it on XBLA or play it on an emulator or something?
I mean, yeah, as an exercise in pointless nerdery I'm sure that's pretty impressive but I think most people were more excited about the prospest of some clever new stuff getting made, not endless re-hashes of old IP. On that note, has anyone here managed to find any decent, clever levels to download? |
Fuck yes, finally a reason to get me playing this game seriously again:
Quote:
Though I'd definitely prefer a R&C pack (and that's what it sounds like to me), any new official levels is good enough for me. I've been hopping online to play some user created levels every now and then, but most levels still don't reach the quality of MM's stuff (even if there are some really great levels, they usually have one or two things that end up keeping them from reaching that same quality). No question that I'll end up buying this day one no matter which it is. |
