Panel de Pon DS: The best damn DS game evah
Is coming... oh my god is coming AT LAST.
PANEL DE PON DS http://www.famitsu.com/game/coming/2...29_p01.jpg.jpg http://www.famitsu.com/game/coming/2...29_p03.jpg.jpg http://www.famitsu.com/game/coming/2...29_p09.jpg.jpg The best damn puzzle game ever created (with Tetris and Puyo Puyo) is coming to Nintendo DS... sadly too simple visuals (why Nintendo and specially Intelligent Systems hates Lip and her friends so much?) but this got Wi-Fi, so im completely sold. More info on Famitsu. If you love Tetris Attack or Pokemon Puzzle League you know why im talking about. |
Omg, I would have just came if this was Tetris Attack DS. I know the gameplay is exactly the same, but the chain shouts and colourful visuals are what made the game for me. Nonetheless I'll still check this out, especially since I didn't know this was coming out.
|
Awwww... why do they make Panel de Pon so generic-looking in recent remakes? ;_;
The major upside (aside from Panel de Pon being on the DS in the first place) is that there's Wi-Fi. Is there any word on how many players the Wi-Fi supports for multiplayer? Also, no link? |
That is somewhat disappointing that they never include the original characters from the game in these ports/remakes. I'm not sure if I'll get this one or not since I got Dr. Mario/Puzzle League but hardly play it since I play Tetris DS instead. Although those colors and backgrounds do look pretty nice, so I'll have to stew on this one for awhile.
|
As long as it plays like muhfuggin' Tetris Attack, I don't rightly care what it looks like.
And if it does, the wi-fi makes this the best game of all time. I've been calling for NWC Tetris Attack since the DS came out. Buying at least twenty-seven copies. Quote:

Best WiFi game ever? Possibly. When's the expected release date?

That said, oh CHRIST IN HEAVEN YES I LOVE PANEL DE PON. Please, oh pleeeease let these screenshots be a beta... there's no reason this shouldn't be as fleshed-out and extensive as Tetris DS was, with all sorts of characters and things and many multiplayer options... Stop being mean to Lip, Nintendo :( I love Lip... |
No

<3 Tetris Attack is the epitome of a fun, addictive game to me. Once I played it once I just couldn't put the controller down. It's the more fun equivalent of Brain Age; this requires some pretty quick thinking at the speed up times, especially when the big blocks were added. Beating Bowser sure felt satisfying.
Despite the poor graphics :(, I think this game looks promising. Promising as long as the game has a good multiplayer option. I'll be sure to keep my eyes peeled for this one. |

Blah 2 months more :(
I can honestly say that Tetris Attack is probably the only game I have truly mastered. I can't wait to face people on Wifi, and those (hopefully) special effect looking blocks will add even more of a twist to the gameplay. I can settle for no characters if there's at least chain sounds. Having no reward for long chains is sort of disheartening. Lunge Fish and Seren for the win! |
I really do hope they add some characters to the game and not just make this sterile and lifeless. If Lip and her friends were in the game that would make this the first game I'd ever import.
Unless they manage to pull a Tetrisphere and load the stages with asskicking techno and surreal animated backgrounds. Quote:

I'm rather anoyed that IS seem to want to cover the fact that Panel De Pon had faries in it and basicly trashed the whole deal after Puzzle League.
BTB, if they name it puzzle league again so help me... |
HOOOOOLY CRAP
Man, throw this on top of the stack of 10-15 games that make me really want a DS. This and Tetris DS especially, I could waste away the rest of my life playing those two online. |
They should just make it a Tetris Attack remake or something already. Thanks to that game, I know the name of more Mario characters. Had it not been for them, I would still be wondering what the hell the name of that dude in the cloud is. :|
But i'd get this in a heartbeat if it had Wi-Fi. |

It's about time this game showed up. Though it won't really make a difference to me, a domestic release would be nice. However, Picross DS hasn't showed up outside of Japan yet, so I don't know if this one will.

Either way, leaving it as-is is making the game look bland in the first place. |
Why can't they just leave Lip and her friends in? Isn't that what Sega did with Puyo Pop? They left all the squealing "yatta"-shouting cutesy girls in and it did fine. What exactly are they scared of?
|
That sort of thing doesn't appeal to everyone. Much like Picross DS, it seems like Nintendo is mostly aiming for people who probably wouldn't recognize those characters anyway. I personally think it would add charm to the games if they had put some characters in, but the population at large probably doesn't want Mario or MoƩ with their puzzles.
|
It would be sweet if they made a collection of both Panel de Pon and Tetris Attack. Everyone would be happy, except maybe the Pokemon fans.
|
While I'm not much for Lip and the other 7 fairies, I loved all the characters of Tetris Attack. Right now Panel de Pon DS is looking terribly bland in comparison to the encouraging squeaks from Wiggler and the joyful giggle of Bumpty. Of course I can live with even just some sound effect indicators. That'd al so be neat if this became like Lumines or whatever in which you have a sound for each time you switch panels, clear, and chain, ie. different skins!

Because those characters are terrible. I do wish they stuck with the Yoshi's Island cast. :( I was disapointed to see this game released as Pokemon Puzzle League and the Puzzle League/Dr. Mario combo is classic Attack, yet lacks the charm. The music wasn't memorable and didn't have the reconizable characters that just gave it that extra something. I'm sure I'll get this but it just isn't exciting now. Long live Tetris Attack! |

:( At least "Heaven Ray!" beats out "Cl-l-l-l-loyster!" Actually...maybe not, but "Nebula Macular!" sure beats "Way to go!" If anything, I think the fairy shouts were pretty bland. All 8 of them seemed like slight variations and the only notable ones for me were Seren and the woman boss in the final 4. |
All Lip ever says is "Igata" or something. She's better than Puyo Pop okay you guys :tpg:
|
Why must they be so dishearteningly plain? Between the Gamecube Nintendo Puzzle Collection and Dr. Mario/Panel De Pon, the games are stripped-down gameplay without incentives to continue...
...except for improving their skills at, you know, the best puzzle video game ever created. |
Holding the DS like a book is making me cry. I didn't like it at all with Meteos: Disney Magic... V_V

Fuck stands. The DS is called a HANDHELD for a reason. You don't play it at home, you play it out on the open road.
And yes I hate this book holding shit as well. Still... it's Panel de Pon. I can forgive you, sweetie :( |
Quote:
Seriously, the stands are god, so you can either purchase one online or continue complaining about holding it vertically. |
I'm getting an aversion to such games. There's nothing wrong with holding the DS the normal way, thanks Nintendo. :(
|
More games need to be sideways, because the internet shakes with rage! I like it, plus the best portable game ever needs to be played with the screen on its side.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y13...ax/junk003.jpg |
PSP's WTF also goes sideways for the waitress minigame. Loads of fun since you feel like a waitress with your newfangled order-taking contraption complete with screaming customers.
I just realized that the sideways holding will make it a lot easier for anybody to do crazy skill chains since you'll probably have to control with the touchscreen if you want to do anything holding it like that :( The sliding panel switching will probably be as broken as Gunpey DS and Meteos (to a much lesser extent), unless you have to tap both blocks you want to switch or something. There goes the advantage of years of Tetris Attack mastery down the drain... |

official site - higher quality stream I want it in cartridge format. :( |
Holy WOW. I thought that was going to be one of those Bit Generation games when the video started. I knew I should have put an 's' after 'game'. Then removed an 's' from 'needs'. =o
|
Just dodging a screen full of bullets? That's all it is?
Well, I suppose it's good Touhou practice. |
Update on the game's title: Apparently it's going to be called "Planet Puzzle League" and will release in the US on June 4th, as well as in Japan on April 26th. Yeah.
Click here for numbing sterility and shattered hopes of Lip being in it. :><: |
Shoot, You know, If I could go back in time and chance one gaming factor, it would be Rareware canceling thier plans to import the orgional SNES PanDePon.
Cuz, that was totaly the start of the whiteness. |
Hmm this looks pretty interesting. I love Tetris Attack and Meteos for the DS is a lot of fun (though I always wished it was Wi-Fi enabled). Might pick it up, especially if its got wi-fi.
|
Someone on the internet ran across this rare Pokemon. WHO COULD THIS BE?
http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/5...5498si2zz5.jpg I wonder if there's also a Yoshi's Island skin. |
Still really wanting to play this game. Not going to import though, and no flash carts right now, so I guess I'll just wait awhile. :(
Oh and it was disappointing to hear from Play-Asia that the stickers aren't going to be included. They just vanished. Like Phoenix Wright 2 all over again. I wanted to stick a red block on my DS, but OH NO, fuck that idea, we'll just release the game with no preorder bonus at all. D: |
Quote:
Although this game does look pretty bland and I'm not a fan of holding the DS on its side, I'll definitely be picking this up. The wi-fi seals the deal, and I know the actual gameplay will be fun at least. |
I was addicted to puzzle league that was packed in with doctor mario GBA cartridge and I can only imagine how fun this'll be with stylus control rather than scrolling the switch box around.
Now if only we could get a Dr. Mario for DS all my current puzzle fantasies would be fulfilled. |
Actually, Brain Age 2 (out in August) includes Dr. Mario. Seriously! I mean they replaced Mario tossing the pills with Dr. Kawashima's giggling angry face, but hey.
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...uL._SS500_.jpg Aaaand box art. How can a ghost hold a stylus? Tsk tsk! |
I've been playing the japanese version recently. It's really great. There's also a translation for the menus available so you can patch your game into english (there's about 25 different options in menus).
The game can be changed from horizontal to vertical and vise versa. Personally I prefer the game played vertically and with the stylus. Using the stylus makes making three-in-a-row vertically or horizontally much faster and much easier. The down side to this though is that you can't position your blocks for combos as accurately. Still, I really like what they've done with the stylus. I haven't tried the wifi section out yet. I'm afraid of getting my ass kicked by japanese puzzle nerds. ;_; |
Please tell me it is complete with chain shouts/chain sound effects and cute mascots =o! I guess making skill chains now with the stylus control eliminates the fun, hard way of alternating between left/right and pressing A at hi-speed. Feels like a way of making chains even faster, which in turn will require people to exceed their former Tetris Attack or Panel de Pon skills!
|
Uh. Well no. It doesn't have any characters or anything of what you've mentioned. It has Lin's theme though, which is an unlockable.
Game's gone for more of a Lumines, polished professional feel. It's still a really good game though. Lip's theme:
|
Well, ACCORDING to gamefaqs(great sauce I know) it'll be called "Planet Puzzle League" and the release date is 6/4/07. So only a few weeks down the road. I'm surprised I haven't seen much info from Kotaku or IGN on this game. I loved Tetris Attack so I'm pretty pumped for this one.
As for the different styles, if they can pull off some slick graphics along with some catchy tunes, it'll only make the experience all that more. FINGERS CROSSED. |
I must say I'm pretty impressed with this game. I still wish they had Yoshi and gang with a bit more Lip, but the gameplay/ visuals and music aren't bad. I tried wifi but was beat down by one of those japanese puzzle masters
|

Thank God none of that anime crap. Though I do wish it had Yoshi's Island characters. :( Meh, I don't know if I'll get this version, already got it on the GBA. Though I guess WiFi would be good. |
Now that it's out anyone want to share their Wifi codes?
I can't see how this will be drastically different from Tetris Attack but I'm going to get a bit of practice first to see if my aptitude carries over. Unfortunate that wifi isn't 4p but any wifi's better than none. I'll be waiting >=) FC: 395238 927834 Everyone add me! I'm up for a challenge! |
I ordered this off amazon so it should be here in a few days..then I'm ready to get my ass kicked online! Woo!
|
I'm waiting for the Toys R Us "Buy 2, get 1 free" DS sale on June 24 to pick this up.
|
Just got it yesterday afternoon. SOOO AWESOME. Sitting at a cool 72 wins now. :D
|
Just got the game today..loads of fun so far.
My Friend Code is 1890 8082 3188 if anyone wants to play just let me know! DS name is Sam (brother) |
Picked this game up today. Kind of disappointed not to see some kind of ranked match on Wi-Fi (other than with friends), but otherwise a fun game. My friend code is 163312-127171.
|
'bout time, nuttyturnip! Now I just need to yell at RockgamerXIII to get the game. >=U
Even though I've played through the game quite a bit, I'm barely getting started on the Daily Play mode. I didn't realize the point of it until I played a couple of games through it. There isn't too much to say about my daily progress since I've only done this a couple of days (The graph for each mode is just one line.). Maybe everyone with the game can compare their daily results once everybody goes through Daily Play enough times. Oh, my friend code is in the Wiki here. |

So if you were born on February 29th or something, chances you will always be #1. :P |

No matter what, I'll definitely have it on time for OLDK this week! But in other news, I did finally play the game in one of those in-store kiosks this weekend. Even with the crappy kiosk setup, I managed to have a lot of fun with the game for the five minutes or so that I played it (the stylus control took a little getting used to, but again, more to do with the crappy kiosk setup than the actual game, as the stylus they had on there sucked, and of course I couldn't hold the system the way I wanted to). |

Hey Nutty I added your friend code and Identity I tried to find your friend code but the link to your wiki wasn't working.
Anyways my friend code is 1890-8082-3188. If anyone else registers me just lemme know so I can do the same ^^ |
It's strange. In Planet Puzzle League's Time Attack, I got a score of over 30000 points, and I looked at the movie that it saved, and the movie showed my game losing at 20000 points, and I didn't do anything that it showed in the second half of the movie. Has this happened with anybody else?
