Post your internet speeds here
I'm interested in seeing what type of speeds everyone gets through their ISP and how much it costs them a month. Use www.speedtest.net for this. I guess I'll start. (keep in mind your speeds probably wont be accurate if you have a torrent or download going)
http://www.speedtest.net/result/85707794.png I pay $59.99 a month for this cable connection. During peak hours I notice my downloads dropping around 5mbps instead of 10, but most of the time I hit my cap. Probably because I live in a small town where everyone uses dial-up. =O |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/85709144.png
I think my parents pay $25 for this connection. I'm satisfied, but you definitely have better ;_; |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/85709991.png
This DSL costs me $41US a month and it's the best in all of auckland. :( |
Your download is okay, but gosh. I couldn't live with such a low upload. Especially for 40 freakin' bucks!
|
http://www.speedtest.net/result/85732699.png
Comcast. Right now it's 30 bucks a month. I like the tester too, though I'll probably stick with broadbandreports.com for more accurate testing. |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/85737742.png
Some Comcast nonsense included in the cable/internet/voip package. Better than I would have thought, actually. |
12,000 down, and 720 up, roughly.
|
I keep forgetting to call my ISP for any free upgrades. But for 40 dollars a month it's not bad.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/85740695.png |
I'm on Cox, but Tucson's lines have never been great and most houses are really far away from the good lines. They really stretch that last mile here. This is for about $45 a month (I pay a little over $90 for internet and expanded basic cable).
http://img226.imageshack.us/img226/6617/85798440jr4.png |
I'm sitting behind a somewhat old-school connection here, but the numbers this thing gives me don't add up at all. Seems like the test shows the speeds as being fraction of what they should be (got downloads/uploads running, but still). Oh well.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/85845185.png |
Quote:
I think it's costing 50 bucks for 300kb/s down and 30kb/s up for me. Plus all the other gay shit Frontier/Citizens forces on you to buy with the network connection, probably adds up to $90+. Can't get cable out here so I'm fucked. Never get Frontier/Citizens dsl. it sucks. |
Comcast Cable, with a promo rate of 24.99/mo or something close to that. Yeah, the upstream's crap and it really shows when I PPTP into my home network and try to fire up a Remote Desktop connection.
http://www.sevenbits.net/imgbank4/speedtest.png |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/85858401.png
It's meant to be an 8meg connection. I get this through Tiscali, and I pay £18 ($35) a month for it. Not very good at all. |
Quote:
DSL or cable? Additional Spam: Quote:
You still have that same ISP? I remember you complaining that my AOL DSL was faster than your connection years ago. Haha, I'm glad I don't have AOL anymore. |
It's DSL, and everyone with this ISP is having the same problem. I'm going to see about getting my MAC in the next few days, it's been like this for months now.
|
You must be too far from the telephone company to hit 8 megs or something. All the DSL ISPs in my area won't put you on a high plan like that if you're too far away to get them. =\
|
http://www.speedtest.net/result/85865299.png
It's only supposed to be a 1 meg connection, so these results aren't too bad. We're paying £14.99 per month for it, but the advantage is that it is genuinely uncapped. No matter how much we use it, we don't get the "bad boy" letter as long as we avoid downloading stuff at peak times. |
Quote:
And now it seems to be getting worse :( http://www.speedtest.net/result/85870631.png |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/85875833.png
This was taken with a dozen torrents going, a large download in Firefox, and some USENET business in the background. Better than I expected, actually. Running about $45 a month. |
Quote:
Normally your connection won't be anything like that bad, but that's all that is guaranteed. |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/85976699.png
the internet alone is about 45$can(~38$us) but we have a big package for the digital cable TV, internet and the digital phone service, we get all that for about 115$can(~98$us) |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/85982831.png
49.99% Comcast. Supposed to be 10megs, but yea there is "issues" with the lines in my neighborhood. |
Pfft. I remember my friend was paying for the 8mb, and he was getting half that speed and Comcast gave him some bullshit about "Our advertised speeds aren't guaranteed" and pretty much refused to send a technician. He's VERY computer saavy (A+ OS/Hardware, CCNA), so he had done everything he could at his end. After much complaints, Comcast decided to finally send out a technician some 3 MONTHS LATER!!!
|
I like how the speed I get varies from location to location. The Montreal server gives me something like 1600kb/s, the Toronto one about 3000kb/s and the New York one roughly 4200kb/s. And I'm in Montreal.
|
yeah apparently the montreal server suck because here with new york i have more the double in download...
http://www.speedtest.net/result/86103978.png oh and they seem to have take out the montreal test... or I don't see it in the list anymore... |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/86107870.png
I got much better from the Dublin server than the UK one. Paying for 2mbit down / 256k up so not too shabby. Can't wait till ADSL2+ finally gets to our area; delay after delay :( The predicted speed for our distance is around 17mb down and 1.3mb up <3. |
What a difference a day makes. I was having unbelievably bad speeds yesterday, but look at it now, nearly 7meg down. I can't see it lasting though.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/86305156.png |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/86310421.png
For 350mi away my speeds are pretty good. Back in December I was getting about 6.5mbps but that was when there was still a Toronto server and that was only about 50mi away. I have the same service that Inhert has with Rogers TV/Internet/Phone for $115CAD a month. |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/86399827.png
Fastest download speed! But look at my shit upstream. I'm hoping FiOS comes to my town soon so I can get 2000kb/s upstream and oh 15000kb/s downstream. Comcast gives me ultrafast downloads but easily the worst down/upstream ratio of any ISP I've seen to date. Even 1:10 would work nice, but no I get some 1:55 ratio here. Funny thing I live only several miles away from Portland yet I get pings of over 100 while San Jose gives me pings of under 50 :twitch: |
Unfortunately for me, this area is run by Comcast, and so Verizon's FiOS is out of the question. Bye bye 25mb down. :(
|
|
Capo, all I can say is simply WoW. Who are you with and how much is service?
|
It's $349.99/month and boy is it worth it!
|
http://www.speedtest.net/result/86552557.png
Definitely capped by the university, unfortunately. I'm closer to the New York server, but my latency is actually higher there (~90), my download is a little faster (~8000), and my upload is slower (~1800). |
Quote:
I mean if I had shitty internet but lived near you it'd be totally fine. Why do distances have to be a problem. :( |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/86734718.png
Of course, this is from wireless on-campus... If only my server could get this. |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/86774557.png
This is a shared university connection, so it can go quite a bit faster or slower depending on how many users there are, the distance to the server, the phase of the moon, etc. Still, 6MBPS isn't bad at all. |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/86804829.png
My God, looking at your speedtests only solidifies what I've known all along: Verizon fucking sucks The closest people to my download rate were still a good 500 mbps ahead. How much is that FIOS stuff anyways? Though Capo's got it bad, damn. |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/86813555.png
lol? Paying 45€ including phone flat oh, that upload cap sucks as far as private torrent sites are concerned, btw |
Quote:
|
Quote:
Edit:http://www.speedtest.net/result/86816324.png Damn, you seriously need to talk to someone Capo. I way off in NYC and still got higher rates than you. Not to mention I'm now thinking of switching to Road Runner, since this is definitely some bullshit on Verizon's part. |
Quote:
|
...I just looked at Mush's rates, and don't feel as bad. =D But seriously, this is nothing less than highway robbery especially when RR's offering 5,000 kbps down for 4-5 bucks more than what I'm paying now.
|
http://www.speedtest.net/result/86819073.png
On a 3meg DSL connection for $29 with a local ISP. This is over a wireless PCI card as well. Not too shabby for the price methinks. |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/86818034.png
It's pretty good, I'm not complaining (and it's only 10 Ls or 10 Pounds). It's fast enough for everything that I need, I don't want any faster connection. |
Why is your upload higher than your download?
|
Quote:
http://www.speedtest.net/result/85737742.png And here's another go at Auckland: http://www.speedtest.net/result/86839112.png Don't know why it's so much better now. |
|
http://www.speedtest.net/result/87179830.png
29 euros / month which includes internet + phone (free in France and in many countries) + TV (something like 70 French channels and 500 random foreign ones) |
Quote:
I learned my lesson though, the next time I have to choose a university, I'm making my choice based on the local telecom companies, not on quality or reputation or anything like that. |
|
http://www.speedtest.net/result/87432320.png
Seems I should be a lot faster than that... http://www.speedtest.net/result/87433679.png Bah. Whatever. |
|
My upload speed is crap.
Test taken from http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/1360/speedzn6.jpg |
|
I see now one's beat my near 20000Kbps download speeds. Still I only get those speeds when downloading a 1-2MB patch or something else stupidly small. I'd be willing to get even 3000Kbps if my connection had a synchronous upload/download bandwidth.
I'm curious to see how someone with 56K would fare with this speed test. |
Probably around 56kbps down.
|
Quote:
|
http://www.speedtest.net/result/87806023.png
University FTW, but there is a downside to this. I can upload only 1Gb every 24 hours, and during business hours, practically all bandwidth is taken from the dorms to the other buildings of the university. EDIT: Auckland for kicks. http://www.speedtest.net/result/87807898.png |
You guys can't compete with my upload :)
http://www.speedtest.net/result/87810574.png This isn't really right though. i usually get more like 800KB/s on upload and download. |
Quote:
The problem is that it's difficult to complain, since the speeds quoted are always "up to". So if you do not get the speed, all customer service will say is "it's your copper cable", which is BT's issue and not theirs. However, BT do set a "minimum threshold" where if speeds fall below that, they will take action; for me it's set at 1000 kbps. Domino, in your case you should definitely take action. Maybe it's time to switch to NTL cable. Most people that I know of are on the 10 mbps service, and they deliver the speed people pay for (usually). As long as if you don't mind horrible customer service, as with most large companies. Edit: Here's my speed test. http://www.speedtest.net/result/88190839.png |

http://www.speedtest.net/result/89286338.png And another one of mine, to show how bad it really is. http://www.speedtest.net/result/89298743.png :( I will be changing ISP as soon as I can, I can barely surf the net with these speeds. |
|
I just tried again (after seeing they change a little the interface)
and just go that: http://www.speedtest.net/result/89497186.png now it more what I have, because on the speed test of my internet provider that's what I was getting. |

that'd be the connection that comes along with my phone service, there are like 2 other ISPs here but they are pretty much worse, it's actually slightly faster(1024 down up I can't remember) but the closest server I can choose is in curacao and I get really crappier speeds with that one, Guatemala doesn't like me either. I pay about 20$ or 25$ but I guess it is decent.

Comcast's lowend FiOS connection. I've had it for about two months now. I've got some odd issues using their provided router I never got around to resolving, but I like it. |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/97093317.png
Must... get... more... upload! As soon as I get my OWN place (instead of "a place I rent from a guy"), I'll be investigating broadband options more thoroughly. |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/111262230.png
Comcast FINALLY got to upgrading my upload speed. And damn what an upgrade! Maybe I won't ditch them so soon after all. |
|
http://www.speedtest.net/result/111607353.png
Not as good as I want it to be, but I get some good bt download speeds :) $25 month from comcast. |
Quote:
For a broadband ISP, that's decent. But for Bittorrent, you could do a lot better (trust me I know :(). Oh yeah if you use Cable, make sure to unplug your modem (from a power source) every month or so. When it powers back on, if they upped your bandwidth the modem will register it. |
How long should it be unplugged for?
|
http://www.speedtest.net/result/111782136.png
I'm on Bell Sympatico DSL, [not the Lite version, one of the higher ones] and we're paying ~$30/mo. We have three computers running on the connection though, and my brother's almost constantly downloading stuff via torrents, so the meter might be off by a little bit. |
I've gotten myself a new ISP since the last time I posted in this thread.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/111795206.png I pay £25 ($50) and the service that I get now is far superior to the one that I was getting. Torrent speeds aren't too bad either, I've had in excess of 600kB/s before today. |

This is on Free Talk Talk Broadband. (Daytime)
http://www.speedtest.net/result/112172703.png I can't go higher (until BT upgrade their lines) due to living 4km away from the local exchange with poor copper wiring, they turned it up to 5000kps but I kept getting disconnected, so they set me to rate adaptive which checks the line and usually I float around 3-3.5Mb. I usually get around 350kb/s during the day and faster at night. I know there has been a fuss with Talk Talk here in the UK but once you get it set up (took ages to activate my line) and the initial connection problems fixed using the call center in friggin India, its not half bad as its FREE I get a phone bill of about £35 which includes my internet and my calls. (I was paying AOL £25/month just for my 1Mb connection before this). Oh when will the UK catch up. Face it BT is to blame for most of this mess. |
This is from my home connection using a Freeola 2MB ADSL connection.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/112781424.png It is what you probably expect from being in an area that can only have 2MB. I'm gonna try this at my university computer after the holidays to see what I can get since Virgin Media told me that they would be increasing my 10MB up to 20MB in May. |

I just tried a few times with places far from me, and I seem to get better speed with servers in Baku, Azerbaijan or Tashkent, Uzbekistan than with the ones in Paris, Saint Petersburg or Moscow. Orders of magnitude better, in fact. Hell, I get better results with the server in "Torshavn, Faroe Islands", and I don't even remember invading that in Hearts of Iron II Doomsday, so I'm pretty sure it's a fairly unimportant place.
|
How fast are your internetz?
Comcast just cranked up my upload speed, so I was checking it out and got these results-

http://www.speedtest.net/result/131858722.png
That's how I roll. I've also got Comcast, so I wonder why our speeds are so dramatically different. Oh wait, you live near a technologically advanced city. I live in Alabama. :( Edit: For kicks, I tested on the same server sprouticus did, and -- http://www.speedtest.net/result/131859214.png |

mind you I was torrenting something at 20 k/sec when this was done. I pay $30-something for this DSL connection. Before I had moved my upload speed was twice as fast as the one I have now (80->40 MAX). Havent gotten around to calling the place to see exactly what service I have. |

384 Kbps for downstream, and 64 kbps for upstream. I pay $25 for this (intially it is $75, but I share the burden with some housemates). Internet in my country is a very expensive commodities sadly. :(

What's funny is I download at well over 100Kb/sec fairly often over this connection. (Currently on wireless in my lab.) Edit: Just did it 10 seconds after my post to another server and got somewhat different results. http://www.speedtest.net/result/133641045.png |

and that's because I'm temporarily using my sister's connection. last time I ran a speed test with my connection, I ran up to 15mbs download and around 7mbs upload. yay for bell canada! at least they have something that does not suck. |
So, I just moved last week. And I used to be wired into my router, now I'm on a wireless G card.
This is to the testing server in my city: http://www.speedtest.net/result/161225364.png This is to one 150 miles away: http://www.speedtest.net/result/161225844.png This is to the one that is 500 miles away: http://www.speedtest.net/result/161226445.png Oddly, even though these speeds are all 2000+ slower than at my last address, I've been downloading from places much, much faster. I had a torrent hit almost 1000 KB/s last week (I never saw over 600 at my other place) and a download I just tested at download.com hit 450 KB/s (which would translate to faster than the top two test speeds there). |

Cogeco Cable. It's got fairly good download speed, but crappy upload. I suspect they throttle high traffic ports, since switching ports for torrents can have fairly dramatic speed boosts on downloads. It also doesn't seem to like IRC ports, since I keep getting disconnected unless I use port 5555 or try SSL. Trying to download as much crap as possible now, so when I go back to university I avoid silly bandwidth caps and horrible support for anything but port 80. |

A lot of the other test servers were much worse, basically thinking I have a 1mb/128kb connection ._. http://www.dslreports.com/im/38155796/10014.png This looks about right. I still have a 5mb download connection but my upload speed practically tripled! I usually upload things at 40~45KB/sec, now I'm cruising at 120~130KB/sec. As a ftp op this is total win. I know, it's nothing compared to what you guys in California or New York are getting at similar prices. But you got to keep in mind that I am in the middle of the pacific ocean. Technology here is scarce! |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/191896795.png
So, seriously, how does that translate to actual speeds ? <_< |
Quote:
So, according to your results your speeds are around: 682 KB/sec when downloading 120 KB/sec when uploading |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/192106722.png
I guess I should be happy with that. XD Upload seems a bit low compared to Comcast. Fortunately I don't do a large amount of it. |
Holy FUCK... I never knew it was THIS bad..
Alexandria Egypt, btw, TeData network, still im sharing this 2 Mbps connection with 30 people so.. http://www.speedtest.net/result/193452383.png |
Bump.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/247765855.png I've switched from Comcast to AT&T due to Comcast being very overpriced. I'm still waiting for Surewest to expand their fiber network into my community. Last time I talked to them they said they should be able to after the FCC passes that new rule that doesn't allow MDUs (multiple dwelling units) to keep exclusive contracts with certain ISPs in these communities. And of course AT&T is the exclusive telephone company for this community meaning surewest can't bring their fiber to the home business here. But not for long~ |
|
I guess you guys can tell I got rid of comcast by these reports lol. FiOs all the way.

Funny how that Comcast cable you ditched still nets me better download results.

Wow, what is up with that ping. No wonder my Brawl matches are so laggy. Edit: I used the Dallas server instead and got this: http://www.speedtest.net/result/253464259.png  |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/253461549.png
And that's with lots of p2p programs running. I can get a bit more with a free line. |
I guess gigabit ethernet will do that for ya.

Not bad. Roommate's playing Vegas 2 online as well. Also on Comcast. |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/253472361.png
Nearest. Also tried Wellington, NZ for laffs. Since it's on the direct opposite side of the world and all. http://www.speedtest.net/result/253474250.png |

It's pretty poor here compared to Danielle's father's house, where I was getting 1.2MB/s (that's megaBYTES) wireless. Additional Spam: Quote:
Sorry, TWO megaBYTES/s. |

Funny how my Upload ratio to download ratio on DC++ has a ratio of 400 GB uploaded and only 63 GB Downloaded.... I could give a F less about DL speed, its always going to be at a decent speed with comcast or any other cable/fios/DSL provider. comcast just wants to police the net and be greedy with their upload. |
The man's always keeping me down.

I'm kinda surprised. My download speeds are usually pretty lame (Australia doesn't really have the greatest internets). It's weird 'cause sometimes I'll get really abysmal speeds downloading from some sources (10kbps), and I'll sometimes get really awesome ones. (300kbps =/) I guess it's the same for everybody, as it depends on where/who you're downloading from. I don't know how much my parents pay for internet and stuff like that. I guess it's fine the way it is, although 10,000+ kbps would be a nice download figure. :3: Edit: And just for curiosity's sake, here's my result when connecting to New York: http://www.speedtest.net/result/254859560.png |
Just replaced my 5 year old cable modem earlier today. I got tired of the dropped connections :U
Speeds still look decent for a Hawaiian connection. http://www.speedtest.net/result/255302715.png |

Woot. Then again, for the monthly cost, it better be fast. |

This is what I've got at the moment on a supposedly 24mbit broadband. I've known about this "not-up-to-what's-promised" speed for a long time, and it sucks that I don't really get full bandwidth. But no matter, I'm getting 100mbit before the end of the year so it doesn't matter :forscience: |
My school speeds are slightly better than my home Comcast service.

Comcast has done some speed upgrades in my area and offered me a nice triple play deal at a great price. I am seeing some pretty amazing speeds on my downloads.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/333926223.png http://www.gamingforce.org/miles/download.jpg Next year it will only get better when they upgrade our nodes to support DOCSIS 3 speeds. |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/341861677.png
Paying £10 a month or something crazy for this. I'm not complaining. 'Twas advertised as a 24Mbit line though. |
i'm stuck with what i call "terminal dial-up syndrome". on the family desktop it's stuck at about 21.6 and it's only slightly better on my laptop at about 26.2 kbps. i occasionally take my laptop over to the local university and use their 52 mbps internet. and if your wondering why we don't upgrade our internet it is because we live in the middle of nowhere and are out of range of cable and most wireless internet. I do plan on getting wireless for my laptop once I turn 18 (which is in less than 2 months) which is something my parents wont do for all of us because they are cheap asses and refuse to pay for our internet. (my mom works at a university and we get free dial-up from them)

About 12EUR per month. Could upgrade to 50/25 for 16 eur/month, but I don't really need that much download speed. If the upload would increase more, I'd consider it. |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/466073540.png
There was an upgrade recently. Still, seeding torrents sucks, and torrents in general are throttled during the day, and sometimes during the night. It costs a whopping 28€/month, but it could be worse. |
Moved into my own place a few months ago, and I'm now paying for the Internet for the first time in my life. Always nice to start things off with a bang:

Albeit my fiancee is playing WoW right now, and we have about 6 devices on this router, but wow this sucks.

Been a year since I move out of my parents home and live in Montreal now, I recently upgrade my internet to the videotron "extreme high speed internet" since I was always busting the data transfer quota...
http://www.speedtest.net/result/546101271.png The internet alone is 65$can/month, but I have the trio (phone,digital tv,internet) for 125$can/month |
Quote:
That's the same package I'm on Inhert. With the full phone/tv/internet package too |
http://www.speedtest.net/result/548438801.png
I think we ( my family ) pay about $60 a month for our internet but I'm not 100% sure. I think we have the lowest speed available through our ISP too, but I could be wrong about that as well. |
I don't think I've ever done this before, to be honest...
http://www.speedtest.net/result/548483872.png I'm not sure what we pay for internet alone, because it's all bundled. We get the HD digital cable, home phone, and the net for $99/month. Not bad, I guess. |
Well I just upgrade my internet to the new TGV 30 of Videontron (Très Grand Vitesse = Very high speed)
http://www.speedtest.net/result/783271303.png Turns out that I was paying the same price but for less! So they gave me that new internet package for the same price I'm paying right now. |
