Storing DS Games
With DS cards being so small, how do you guys store them for transport and such? I don't really have anything made to carry them, so I end up just using the case they come with. Which, may be a bit cumbersome since the case is much larger than the game itself.
I dunno, any creative ideas? It's a bit annoying to carry around 3 or 4 cases. |
A Tic-Tac container is the perfect size for DS carts, you can store three in there or more if you really wanna jam 'em in and cause an explosion!
|
Transporting isn't typically an issue. I decide on one to bring with me, and that's usually enough to tide me over. They do have those little pocket-binders for games, though, I can imagine that would come in handy.
As far as extended trips go I do have a little pouch thing. It stores my DS, charger, and up to 8 games. It's something similar to this. |
Not really creative, but I've seen these things at a couple of stores, and I think they would work well for taking games on the go. Basically, they're like that little game case thingy that came with the Castlevania: PoR preorder bonus, but they hold six games instead of two.
|
I use these cases:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...Sgamecases.jpg They come in packs of 3, meaning you can store 9 games for each pack. They're very convenient for me. Sorry, but I couldn't find a pic of the actual packaging. |
I never, ever take my DS out. Taking DS carts out in a small container is dangerous, because if it gets stolen or lost, there's a whole smack of money BAM gone. I decide which game I'm going to play, stick it in the DS, and go. But now I have a M3 Simply I'm thinking I'll be using that more often. It's basically multiple DS games in a single DS cartridge, and thus, is extremely portable.
I have 19 DS games at the moment so it isn't a sensible option to be taking them anywhere. |
I bought a small clear plastic tackle box at Wal-Mart. The little compartments are the exact same size as a DS cart, and it only cost around $3. Sure, it's way too big to fit in my pocket, but it fits great in my briefcase that I take to work.
This is pretty much what it looks like: http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg |

Anyway, I've saw on GoNintendo someone used a coin collecting book to store his DS games. The spaces are big enough to fit a game in there. I thought it was a pretty neat idea. |
I've seen people recycle their old Game Boy cartridge cases. Can hold around six in one of those. Me? I just stick them in my pocket if I have to carry more than one with me (seldom).

It's alot like freelance wolf's case but it can hold four games at a time. Not sure how I got them though, may have came with the switch n carry set. |

There's always this. It's stylish, extremely small, and cute. But it only holds 2 cartridges. So I guess that's just enough for Phoenix Wright 1 and 2. |
I use the cases old Game Boy games came in. They can hold three DS games with no problem, and if you're really desperate a fourth can fit in there. The fourth game tends to block the latch though, so it's a struggle to open it again. Unfortunately I've got too many DS games now, and have long since run out of extra cases. Now my old games are having to go bare until I remember to look for a box like Nutty posted.
|
I usually keep all my DS games in a zipped up pocket in my jacket, although I lost Mario Kart last year that way :( I still haven't gotten around to re-buying it. I'm a bit more careful and only bring one game which stays in my DS, although I never go anywhere long enough to need multiple games.
|
Best DSLite case ever. Holds 4 (6 if you cram them) DS cartridges in the pockets, and even more (including the charger and some GBA games) in the mesh pocket. Costs $20 from Playasia.

I suppose that any of those are better than what I'm doing right now. And of course, if it's just a short trip, I'll have 1 DS game to last me over (probably FF3) and if I get bored of that, I'll have a backup GBA game in the second slot if I really want some variety (which happens to be Tales of Phantasia). But for really long trips, I suppose it might be a good idea to get a case that can hold a few, All I need to hold is 2 more DS games and 2 more GBA games since I only have that much.
Also, an M3 sounds VERY attractive for having the ability to hold multiple games in one cart..... |

I take one DS game box with me and stuff it with games...
One in the DS slot, one in the GBA slot, and at least 3 or 4 more in the remaining space The biggest problem is opening the case without an explosion of DS games |
I have 2 of these http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=802592 these can hold 6 games at once and they are slim enough o fi in ur pocket

I actually just store all of my DS games in a (card) deck box. It's not probably not healthy for the carts themselves, but this is actually just for storage purposes. For actual "on-the-go" gaming, I use one of those things from the switch 'n carry things...because my brother got one (with six cases).
My brothers and I have a total of about 30 DS games...and its still growing (like 4 games a month) |
I bought some NDS single cases. I have a variety of them. SOme of them hold two games...some just one. but they all do the job just the same...
|
Here is my NDS game case:http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...n/DSC00331.jpg and here is the back open: http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...n/DSC00333.jpg It's my handy Pikachu case
|
Yeah, I went with the 3 pack of 3 DS games cases.
http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/3916/1000152ek0.jpg They're actually pretty handy, I think they were either $5 or $10, and they hold 9 total. Though I might need another set of cases to fit new games I decide to buy. I can't believe I can't find Luminous Arc anywhere. I might have to go online to find it. :( |
I generally don't carry that many DS carts with me, I keep them in their cases. If I do take multiple carts with me, I have a pouch that holds my DS and three extra carts.

These days, I still use the cases, but because I have so little of them, I used my old DS case to hold some games since there are slots in there. I always at least have four games on hand though. Three go into the current case, and the other is in the DS.
I might need to get a couple more cases though... The DS Case isn't really working too well right now. |
Unlike most people, I carry just about all my games when I leave to go somewhere more than 2 hours away. I'm usually indecisive on what game to play, so I bring all of them so I have access to all of them. I could be feeling Phoenix Wright for like 20 minutes and then change to Etrian Odyssey then. Except, in Etrian Odyssey's place, a more correct place holder would be "random".
|
My DS holder has three inbuilt slots for carrying games and a little net pouch into which I've fitted four plastic game holders that hold two games a piece, so what with the one already in the DS I can carry 12 games with me easily. I also have a little additional carry case which is just wider than three games across and a bit extra height wise, but it can carry nine more games. Suits me.
|
I used to carry all my DS carts in a zip-up SD card case. Since they're about the same size, it works pretty well. I realized I don't switch the games unless I'm on an overnight trip though, so now I just shove my DS phat (lol big bulge) in my pocket and get on with the day.
|
I have a nice little case that holds my original DS, eight carts, and has a compartment behind the cart straps that can hold a power supply, spare styluses and additional assorted GBA carts that I truck around with me. It's actually this one here:
http://www.circuitcity.com/IMAGE/pro...S.NDS14.RT.JPG I bought it for $10 at Best Buy like a year and a half ago and it's perfect for me. I don't carry more than 8 DS carts with me at any given time because I don't like chucking them in the rear but now that I think about it, I may buy some of those 3-cart clear cases and throw the rest of my games in the "handpurse" as well. |

On topic, I use an M3-card (20 games) and one of these socks: http://www.siliconera.com/news/0608/dssock02.jpg Minimalism <3. |
I just use a spare DSL pouch for the games, got 40 of them so it's about the right size too

Brother uses one of those carts as well. (R4) and well no more tagging around carts after carts
but that sock sure looks nice. =DD |

So has anybody used this before?
http://image4.play-asia.com/640/6v/pa.123812.1.jpg Seems really efficient to me. And for $10, it's better than the 3 cases of 3 that I usually get for $6.....which I'm about to run out again with EO2 and Izuna2. |
I actually saw that while looking up DS Lite cases online. Can you get them in America? I'd love one of those. I'd save money and space.
|
Yeah, I bought the black one. They're not really that good. =\
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y13...se16666001.jpg Same thicknesss'sss as a DS. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y13...se16666006.jpg Problem is, the games are incredibly difficult to get out once they're clipped in. At first I thought it was because it was new, but after about two weeks, it's still the same. Sometimes it's like the game is going to snap in half or something. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y13...se16666007.jpg Then again knowing my luck I probably got some retarded one. |
Quote:
Hmm...It seems really convenient....I don't mind if it takes a bit of force, but if the amount of force that it takes is close enough to break the game in half...that's not a good thing. You haven't snapped any of your games in half, have you, Infernal? |
There are some retailers (Fry's comes to mind) that sell Hori products, but I don't know how big the selection is as I haven't been to the store in a long time. I think Hori actually is manufacturing stuff for the US market, so their products shouldn't be to expensive.
|
I don't think I've ever seen Hori products in stores before. We don't get Fry's here either.
I guess I'll skip out on that case though. Sometimes it's even hard to take games right out of its own case, so there's no sense taking it out only to put it into another case that's as equally hard to take out. I'll just stick with the cases I'm currently using. |
I personally prefer having one case that holds everything instead of 6 smaller, loose cases that hold 3 games each. They work fine, but it means I have to keep track of 6 cases when I could just keep track of 1 big one.
But I don't know, I suppose since I have exactly 18 games, I'll stick with what I have until something else comes out. |
I saw someone use an Altoids gum container. Perfect fit. And I'd imagine you could use a full-size tin for muchos games.
I personally use the two-game case that came with the Portrait of Ruin pre-order. I never need to carry around more than three games (I can stick one in the DS), so it works great. |
Ah, that's the other thing. When I take my DS, I take ALL of my games with me since I never know what to play. And unfortunately, I have maybe 6 or 7 active long-term games going on and a few I've beaten but can easily be picked up again. The rest fall into the pick-up-and-play type of games.
And I'm not sure what an Altoids gum container is...unless it looks like the Altoids mints containers. But I can't imagine them fitting safely in there, unless you really packed it in. |
Hori-anything is always great. I however, just lug all the game cases around.

I carry one of these:
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h1...DScaseOpen.jpghttp://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h1...SCaseClose.jpg (The official name of it is a "ALS Industries NDS400-BLU DS Lite Game Traveler Case - Blue") It's a little bulky, but along with the DSL it can hold 6 games (and more in the extra pocket if I want), it's pretty sturdy, and comes with one of those hook thingies (I forget what they're called exactly), so it can hang off a belt loop or a backpack instead of fattening a pocket. Works just fine for me so far. |
