Such a Lust for Revenge! Jan 22, 2007 05:03 PM

I'm gonna name my third child Aaron Kurado Javier. Even if it's a girl!

I thought about putting this in the media centre or general, but this is probably the best place for it.

What would you name children of yours? The other part I wanted to get into is what anime/video game/movie names would you consider giving your child if that was an option your significant other was willing to go along with and your desire?

I named my son Vincent after two sources: Vincent Valentine in FFVII and Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction. I WAS going to give him either one of those middle names, but by sheer fate both of Lenore's older children have either Vega or Valentine as a middle name. So I gave him my best friend's middle name.

I named my daughter Vanessa because it always made me think of a really sweet, quiet girl in my mind because of experiences with Vanessa's. I gave her Angel as a middle name because of a cute teddy bear Lenore owned that was named Vanessa Angel after the little girl that died of cancer it was made for (for funds) and mainly because it's my brother's middle name.

Now, if I were to have another son I'd strongly consider naming him either after me or ANAKIN. Yeah, so what. Fuck you too. Anakin is original enough but not too ridiculous where it would make you wince. Maybe even Anakin Solo because I used to have Solo as a nicknake in Vegas and Anakin Skywalker's grandson was named that.

So, baby names? Media influences?

franposis Jan 22, 2007 06:07 PM

Well, if I have a son I want to name him Isaac, but that's after Isaac Newton. Although his middle name would be Barnaby which was partially inspired by some awful kids TV where a bear goes on trips and learns things and if it wasn't for the name you wouldn't know if it was a boy or a girl... But it's just because I heard the name on that and realised what an awesome name it was.

If I have a girl instead, I'll call her Lucy, but that's because of a dream which my head has decided it wants to go along with. Her middle name would be Uma after Uma Thurman because... Well... She kicks ass. ^_^

Guess I only seem to pick middle names based on media... Kind of :P

And if I was picking a name from anime, I would choose Sakura just because that's what they always call the beautiful shy girls. ^_^

Oh yeah, my younger sister is named Maisie after Maisy the Mouse (yeah, they got the spelling wrong ><)

knkwzrd Jan 22, 2007 06:13 PM

I've never really thought about it, but I have a friend who is absolutely set on naming his first kid Ammo, regardless of gender. God only knows why.

Gechmir Jan 22, 2007 06:40 PM

I've got a small list =U First-Middle name orientation~

Girl:
Dixie Lynn
Monta Ruth

Boy:
Klaus Wolfgang
Hans Wolfgang

All of these have ties to a relative. Three are connected to my dad's side, one is connected to my mom (Lynn being her namesake).

The Wise Vivi Jan 22, 2007 07:07 PM

Girl: Nadia, Jo-Lynn, Lynne, and there is one other one, but I cannot remember. These names are the names of some of my friends, the first one being a crush of mine in High School. I think the names are lovely that is why I would use them. Not necessarily because they are names of people I knew or know.

Boy: Nicholas. That's all I have for names for boys right now. Nicholas was my Grandfather's name.

I like Jules. And Lauren.

Sandy Jan 22, 2007 09:55 PM

I've always wanted to name my daughter Lynn or Lynne too :P just because it sounds pretty. (Well it also reminds me Lyn from Fire Emblem and not to mention my last name is Lin >.>) Or if I have a Japanese baby girl I'd name her Kitsuyo or Sanami.

If it's a boy I'd name him Richard, no reason really.

Such a Lust for Revenge! Jan 22, 2007 10:05 PM

Richard kilike bobo. why lie? You were part of that bobo fan club stuff sandy.

Summonmaster Jan 22, 2007 10:11 PM

I would want my girl to have a flowery name, but not too extravagant.
Something like Altessa, or maybe Myria. Anything that is not common and has an "a" towards it will probably suffice.

It's harder for me to come up with a name that would please me for boys, so this is probably where I'd like to see if I could pull off one of those funky video game names for one. Maybe Kresnik or Arnaud from Wild Arms 4. Possibly Soma from Dawn of Sorrow.
Due to the issue of having it sound nice with my the last name, I'd probably make it a normal name though.

Plus, soma is most often associated with the fictional drug issued to citizens in Huxley's Brave New World. :p

If I have a daughter, I will name her Luna. No, not after the girl in Harry Potter. No, not after the girl from Lunar the Silver Star Story. I just have a love for the full moon at night, and for Greek/Roman mythology.

Such an unusual name, "Latrine." How did your family come by it?

We changed it in the 9th century.

You mean you changed it TO "Latrine"?

Yeah. Used to be "Shithouse."

Girl's name: Alexandria, or Alexandra. Not only because I like the name and it's easily shortened to Alex, but also because Alexandra is Cassandra of Troy's royal name, and it'd be my sane tribute to the Greek Mythology that I absolutely love... as opposed to calling a girl Polyxena, or another crazy name.

Boys name: Not sure. I've always joked that I'd name my first son after my first love, Trunks from DBZ (future Trunks, not the whiny brat Trunks)... but its not likely. Can't really decide.

Edit
Dear gods, what happened in this thread while I was typing? Lol.

agreatguy6 Jan 23, 2007 07:35 PM

I would name my daughter some insane name (mind, she's white/asian):

Ashukaqackukqua
Fukua
Shantiqua Baniqua
Puse (pronounced pooSAY)
Ophelia

And for my son:

Son-of-the-artist-without-a-job
!xalaka (*click*alaka)

And, of course, my personal FAVORITE (for either sex):

Little-bitch/bastard-that-fucked-up-my-shit-ass-life

Helloween Jan 23, 2007 08:19 PM

My friends and i discuss this on a nearly regular basis, claiming names that we get to use on our kids and such. Alot of these names have already been "taken" for future use.

Boys:

The name Paul has been in my family line for as long as anyone can trace back. Every other generation there's a boy with the first name Paul, and the generation after that gets it as a middle name. I don't know if i have to keep that tradition up or not, as i don't have that name at all.

I've always liked the idea of naming my first son Bejaman (first name) Franklin Peirce (middle names) after Hawkeye from M*A*S*H, but i'm not sure that'll ever happen.

Girls:

Natalie, Naomi, Anneke (Anika). Those are the three girls names that i really like that don't really come from anything. I know three girls with all those names.

I've always liked the name Rikku, but i think that would be too easily recognized, and a little too stand-outy for Canada.

There are plenty more, but i can't think of them now.

How Unfortunate Jan 23, 2007 10:42 PM

Try to pick names so that each member of the family has a different first letter in their name. That way, you can just use single letters on the score card when you go to the mini-putt.

Practicality.

Shorty Jan 24, 2007 04:58 AM

Boys: Jorge, Ben or Ken. I don't know if I'll ever breed with another Japanese man so I'd like to name my child with American names that are also widely accepted in Japan. (Makes it easy for my side of the family to remember--if any of them are still living by the time I start having children, that is)

Girls: same deal. Except I haven't found much that transcribes well as an American name that Japanese use as a real name as well. Maybe Maria or Emily. But these probably aren't names I would choose for my own girls. I do like Sophia (or Sophie) and Annette.

Don't know why, I seem to be more picky about boys' names rather than girls. Probably has something to do with my innate desire to keep my heritage alive somehow through my next generation...or whatever.

nazpyro Jan 24, 2007 10:40 AM

i'm a fan of names that end in 'a', so for a girl, there's plenty of anime/game characters. names like luna, lucca, ayla, aya, terra, rydia, serena, tifa, rinoa come to mind. but even if i weren't to choose a video game/anime name, i'm sure the name would end in 'a'.

for a boy though: i dunno... baraka? :tpg: it probably won't end in a, so the name just has to be inherently awesome. so maybe sub-zero. that'd be beast. or maybe zidane or frog...

also, xander is a pretty awesome name.

FallDragon Jan 26, 2007 06:55 PM

I hope people are picking out names based on the how they enjoy the sound of the name, not because it reminds you of a videogame/anime character. I can't imagine naming a kid I might have "Cloud" to have him grow up with everyone thinking A) he (or myself) smokes weed, or B) he's going to save the world. Too many crazy judgments can be made based on names, and it's just exacerbates it when parents pick names because they like how cloud killed sephiroth with omnislash WOO!

IMO, anyway.

I poked it and it made a sad sound Jan 26, 2007 07:55 PM

The only person in the world who would actually AGREE to these names would be Pang. I've had my heart set on them forever.

Female: Kallisti. Hands down. I doubt that I will ever be granted my wish, though. It's such a pretty name. If I had to chose others, I'd likely go with Aiselinn (or a variation thereof - Azaelyn, Aieslyn).

Male: Loki, first choice. Apart from that, maybe Tristan or Wolfgang or something. I haven't really considered, though I kind of like Wolfgang.

Such a Lust for Revenge! Jan 26, 2007 09:56 PM

Whatever happened to Pang Sass? I miss him. Thought you two were pretty cool Yin Yang and shit. Now you sold out.

Chaotic Jan 31, 2007 06:29 PM

For boys: Vincent... I always though it was a cool name, and two to three syllable names seem to work in my family. I was also thinking about Pat or something... Perhaps Patrick after my brother's middle name, or Paterno after my dad. Reiji always seemed to be an interesting name also.

For girls: I never really though about girl names all that much, but I know my family would kill me if I ever chose the name Serenity. It's a nice name, but doesn't seem to roll well off my last name. Maybe Jillian, for the sole reason if I ever came out a girl, my mom would've named me that.

Frank91 Feb 5, 2007 02:02 PM

For boys: John, Stephen, Kenneth, Ezekiel or Daniel. These are my favorite boy names. The middle name should be Benjamin.:D

For girls: K/Clara, Sarah or Valentine. Aren't those three names just really cute?

Domino Feb 5, 2007 02:14 PM

For girls: I've always liked the name Jessica, same with Rebecca.

For boys: I would choose Vincent if I were to ever have a son. Not too sure that it would go with my surename though.

Such a Lust for Revenge! Feb 5, 2007 02:17 PM

Funny, I sort of regret naming my son Vincent but I've seen it mentioned a couple of times here now. It's cool that the thread I first made here before my son was born played a part in his name.

Sarah is my next choice for a girl if I ever somehow have another.

WolfDemon Feb 5, 2007 03:02 PM

Assuming I ever decide to have a kid, I've also been thinking about naming my son Vincent. Everyone I've told that to has been like "BUT THAT'S AN ITALIAN NAME YOU'RE NOT ITALIAN!" Same for the name Julia for my daughter. But does it really matter? Sure I'm not gonna name my white ass kid Kazuo or Hans, but who really cares where the name comes from? If some weirdos can name their son Sephiroth and another can legally change his name to Optimus Prime, (Awesome as that is) then dammit, I'm gonna have my Vincent/Julia.

Ceres Feb 5, 2007 07:21 PM

I like names that are kinda out of the ordinary, don't want to give my child a name that three other kids in his/her class is going to have. Plus i have a thing for greek and roman mythology, so for a girl I like the name Aurora (goddess of dawn). Also I kinda like the sound of Aurelia (means gold), but I know it's too weird.

For a boy I like Aiden, but I'm starting to get turned off of that name cuz right now it's like the top boys name

Vemp Feb 5, 2007 09:47 PM

For a girl, I'll name her Rei. Bite me.

If a boy, he'll be Odin. Because Odin trumps you all.

Ceres Feb 5, 2007 10:39 PM

I actually also like Rei for a boy...I know a little boy named Odin

Vemp Feb 6, 2007 04:07 AM

Really? Wow, that's cool since ODIN is a really badass name.

I wonder if anyone would like to name their kid "Genocide" or "Terror". I also like Valeria for a girl.

Hydra Feb 6, 2007 10:07 AM

I used to want to name my first daughter Violet, after Violet in the Boxcar Children and later Series of Unfortunate Events. Now I'm over it now, and would name her Anna. I want to name her Anais, but in the u.s. kids would say it wrong and make it sound like anus.

Such a Lust for Revenge! Feb 6, 2007 01:38 PM

Well, I'm a quarter Italian so I guess I have the "right" to name my son what I did as far as Vincent's concerned.

After reading through some of these names I realize I don't really mind odd names, even Valeria and Odin sounded awesome... It's the names that sound out of Africa or places with VERY different names that bug me... Unless that person can visually fit the name of course.

Philia Feb 10, 2007 01:52 PM

I like the name Meia or Mya for a girl. Mia has been used before. I wanted it to be different somewhere.

I also like Anna a lot. Variations as well like Hannah, Annie, Hannie, etc.

For a boy, it definitely David. I cannot have it any other way. I thought about Gabe (NOT a PA reference or Syphon Filter reference either) for short of one of the arch angels.

Lunar Seal Feb 10, 2007 02:13 PM

Girl: Elizabeth, Amaia, Mia, Lorelei. Any one of these would do.

Boy: Hadley. That'd be my first choice. I don't know why I like it so much, just that I do.
I also really love the name Rubedo, but I'd never name my boy that since it did come from Xenosaga.

Celes Chere Feb 10, 2007 03:20 PM

When I was younger, I really liked the name Carla for a girl. I'm indifferent towards it now.

Celes is actually a pretty name, but I'd feel so weird naming my child after a video game character. :( Amelia is good too.

As for a boy, I don't really know. I kind of like Alex.

They're just names. I don't see why it should really matter all that much anyway. :|

Either way, a family friend of mine named their kid Vincent. He's Filipino-American through and through. So who cares if you're not Italian.

My cousin wants to name their daughter Kiara. Mostly because of a similarity on his name, Karlo. So he wanted to somewhat continue you the chain. I actually like the name though. Seems like a different change of pace in my family due to the recent lack of original names.

Only other (somewhat) original name I could think of in my family is my cousin in the Philippines, her name is Leica. My uncle is a photographer, so out of passion for his art, named her after a camera brand... But I like the name anyway. :|

Phoenix X Feb 18, 2007 05:29 PM

I loathe the name Tristan. Just had to throw that in there.

Let me explain my naming system. I will give my unfortunate offspring three names each: A first, which will be the default. Then a second, the middle name, which they can choose to use instead of the first. Finally, the third will be the nerdiest of names, something they will tell to very few people. But used correctly, it will get them laid. Thus my evil genes will be spread to a new generation, and chaos will be all but assured.

Clearly, anyone with brains knows that names that end in 'e' and contain a 'y' are superior. Therefore:

Girls:
Faye - Cowboy Bebop. Also, Faye Wong. If this was her first name, her second would be Valentine.
Zoë - One of the leads from a webcomic called Sluggy Freelance. The 'e' has dots over it, and it contains a 'z', thus compensating for the lack of 'y'. This goes to my firstborn daughter.
Jayde - I really like this name, and I did not steal it from Mortal Kombat!!
Krys - Clearly, this is the best form of 'Christina'. Bonus points for using 'y' as a vowel within a word.
Leia - Yup, Star Wars ref. It's such a beautiful name, though, regardless of nerdiness. Second name material, probably.

Boys:
Zack - The original badass, Buster Sword-weildin' SOLDIER. Cloud was just a poser. Also, this name sounds, for lack of a better word, sharp. You don't fuck with Zack, he'll tear out your fucking eyes, man. AND EAT THEM.
Gabe - Yes, that is a PA ref. It is also a very cool name.
Snake - Yup, that's an homage to ol' Solid Snake himself. I'd reserve this one for a second or third name, though. I'd probably find some other language's word for snake and use that instead, though.

On the other hand, I might leave it up to my kids to choose their own third names once they reach a certain age. The only part of being confirmed as a Catholic that I enjoyed was picking a third name, so I might as well steal it back, right? :P

Such a Lust for Revenge! Feb 18, 2007 05:36 PM

Ha, named that just between the last two prequel movies. I wonder what sort of following that name had those years in particular.

...Well, at least you're not considering Cloud.

I'm in doubt as to whether I'll ever wind up having kids, but if so... I'd want to name the girl Alexandra and the boy Paul, both after close acquaintances.

Never considered Iroqouis or Pliskin?

I never really think much about this kind of thing, mostly because I doubt I'll ever have kids, but I really like the idea of Lilly (or Lily =s) for a girl, and Bernard (suprise suprise) for a boy.

Such a Lust for Revenge! Feb 21, 2007 06:27 PM

Haha, you're a lover of your series Bernard. Wha td you think of Anakin?

Garnet Mar 22, 2007 02:14 AM

Well me and Chris, some of you might know him as OZZ, had a little boy on February 28th ^^;. We named him Albel Mathias James. Albel was my pick, and yes I got the name from Star Ocean 3. ;p Mathias was his pick, which he got from Castlevania Lament of Innocence. And James is after my daddy. ;d We get alot of "What's his name again. Can you repeat that?"

If we had had a girl,we were going to name her Rinoa. Hadn't really thought about the rest of the name though. ;p

Annnd,I also like the name Jareth for a boy. Straight from Labyrinth. And OZZ would put Altara as the middle name. He also likes the name Janus for a boy.

Hmm... If I have a son, I want to name him Michael. For a daugther, Tula.

BMan Apr 19, 2007 06:43 PM

Tula is such an interesting name! I quite like it... good choice =)

(sorry to butt in like this :D)

SemperFidelis Apr 22, 2007 06:47 PM

I spelled daughter incorrectly up there lo.. Yeah, I like how the name sounds, and it's very unique though it doesn't whore up too much attention by being pompous and unconventional.

Kiri May 25, 2007 11:34 AM

I got a few names. My son who is 10 months old at the moment, his name is Angelus William (Angelus from me and William after my father). I also like the name Tyler for a boy. For a girl I'm partial to the name Alexandria.

Water_Rain May 26, 2007 11:17 PM

I've gone through many strange names in the past, but these seem to be the most prominent ones:

Boris (shh, don't laugh) - Boris Pasternak (Dr. Zhivago). I really love that story, and Pasternak's poetry is amazing.

Warrik - I first heard the name on CSI, so I guess that counts?

Aiden - The name my parents would have chosen for me if I had been a boy.

Adrian - Rocky happens to be one of my favourite movies. : )

These are the only ones I can think of at the moment..

^-^ May 30, 2007 12:48 PM

Boy: Ness
Girl: Harley

Such a Lust for Revenge! May 30, 2007 11:55 PM

Is your actual name Ness, Ness?

My Dreams Jun 2, 2007 01:17 PM

If I had a girl I would love to name her Claire. Its such a lovely name. I still can't think of a name of a boy but I'd like something unqiue - a name that represents hope and compassion.

Zephyrin Jun 20, 2007 09:24 PM

Unless it's very unique AND very popularly known, media based names aren't going to be noticable to almost anybody.

I could name my kid...Ash, from fuckin' Pokemon. But only my nerd friends would question it, and by the time the kid is 5 years old, everybody will have forgotten. And other kids his/her age would definitely not ever have a clue.

If it were up to me to name a kid, I'd probably point at a random word in the dictionary and work off of that. (I say "work off of" just in case I land on 'toilet' or something like that.)

Then again...I've always been fond of Buster Wolf, the name of Terry Bogard's key move.

LaMenina Jul 7, 2007 03:10 PM

I love Jane Eyre with a deep dark obsession, and so I would choose to name my child (IF I have any, and that is a monumentally big IF) Adele, after the little French girl, because I don't actually like the name Jane all that much.

As far as anime and stuff goes, I guess Faye would be my choice, after Faye Valentine, the ultimate femme fatale and XX dynamo :)

Kostaki Jul 8, 2007 03:43 PM

If I ever have a daughter, I'm definitely going to name her Miakis. Even though the name is originally from Suikoden V, it sounds plausibly Greek and most people would end up calling her Mia as a nickname which I think would go over well.

nanashiusako Jul 12, 2007 02:30 PM

My son's name is Tyler Austin after Tyler Durden from fight club and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

DoTheMario Jul 12, 2007 03:15 PM

I like the name Adele (as mentioned above) too; it's so pretty and French.

Aside from that, I've really no definite clue for any other girl names. I think Hebrew, French, Irish and Japanese names are some of the nicest for girls.

For a boy though, I absolutely adore the name Samuel. (after both a brother of mine and the youngest Winchester. ;))

Kesubei Jul 12, 2007 05:45 PM

If I had a daughter: Mylene (Macross 7), Lacus (SEED) and Euphemia (Code Geass) are ones from anime that I liked. Stuff like Minerva, Lili, Nadine, Karen, and Hikari are also good.

I'm not as choosy when it comes to boys' names.
