St. Patrick's Day Warm-up Thread!

Soooo... We all know what happens on St. Patties day...

http://static.flickr.com/3/5971068_3d3066947d_m.jpg

and since it is THIS FRIDAY!!!! I figured that I should make a warm-up thread.

Our plans for st. patties day involve prepping our apartment for a huge-ass party, and getting together a dozen or so twofurs for a huge party.

A couple questions - what are you doing for this holiday, and does anybody have a good recipe for green beer? We can never seem to get it right.

ComCrimson Mar 12, 2006 04:24 PM

I'll just be going round the pub on Friday night to get pissed up with my parents. Yes, i get drunk with my parents, but they're paying so it's all good. That's about it really. There'll probably be a shit load of race-goers in the pub though which will cause problems with getting served.

We don't usualy celebrate ST Patricks day but our local is doing something special so we just have to this year.

alkaline Mar 12, 2006 04:28 PM

Wah. I have a flight to catch on Friday, so I can't drink. . while I'm on this end of California.

Though, the person I'm going to go see works in a bar. . so. . yeah:edgarrock:

Spyer Mar 12, 2006 04:32 PM

My buddies are all getting drunk on that day, but they have to plan where its going to happen. Obviously it won't be here since i don't drink THAT much.

Btw, if you want green beer, just put a green apple in a beer for 8 days.

orion_mk3 Mar 12, 2006 05:44 PM

I always wear orange on St. Patrick's day. Time was, you could get expelled or beaten up for doing that :D

I always find that my feelings about St. Patrick's day, as a person of Irish descent myself, are summed up very well by "The Onion."

Their 1999 St. Patrick's day headline: "Irish-Americans Gear Up For 'The Reinforcin' O' The Stereotypes'"

Qube Mar 12, 2006 05:48 PM

It's really just another day for me, I don't have any plans....although I'll probably end up drunk anyway, for random reasonings. Be nice to do something, maybe something will occur and it won't be just another day.

As for green beer, I want to hear of a good way to get that stuff as well.....they should sell some at the beer vendors around this time of year, just for that reason. Maybe they will, I'll have to look into it.

russ Mar 12, 2006 08:31 PM

I know what I'll be doing: not wearing any green, that way all the women will get to pinch me, which will pretty much make their days.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Mar 13, 2006 08:36 AM

Every pub I know that sells green beer just puts a couple of drops of green food colouring in each pint. It's hardly rocket science.

St Patrick's day is largely a non-event in Britain. All the commercial faux-Irish pubs will no doubt have something going on and there's normally some crappy Guinness promo going on whereby if you drink 4 pints you get a shit hat or something.

I guess St Patrick's day is more popular in America than England as the Irish haven't tried to blow you up recently...

peeack Mar 13, 2006 10:28 AM

It's largely a non event out here in the collonies aswell, Shin. The traditional olde Irish pubs crank out the Guinness and throw up a few cardboard shamrocks. Pitty that Kilkenny tastes a shitload better.

Having said that, my Brother is on holiday here from England, so him Dad and I will probably go for a few drinks somewhere.

Moth Mar 13, 2006 11:30 AM

The Irish pub downtown - Mick O'Shae's - usually hosts a massive St. Patty's Day parade every year. (It literally shuts down the city, with all the roads being blocked.) For some reason, though, this year they decided to hold it... yesterday.

Well, whatever... I know I'm going to get decked out this friday. Won't go out drinking, but I'll find something to do, I'm sure.

Jan Mar 13, 2006 06:19 PM

I'm gonna drink copious amounts and possibly ingest lysergic acid diethylamide. Haven't decided yet. And stay far from GFF as not to make a fool of myself.

horlique Mar 13, 2006 07:26 PM

Last year people on my floor (I live in residence) started drinking at 11 in the morning and continued throughout the entire day. Next day there were literally hundreds of beer bottles left in the common room. I imagine there will be something similar again this year.

My question is, why is this important to you (anyone)?

turicus Mar 14, 2006 01:04 AM

I'm just gonna watch "Boondock Saints." Such an awesome movie, Definately R rated though, (as a warning if you haven't seen it) But just one of my fav's....!!

Arkhangelsk Mar 16, 2006 06:22 PM

I'm counting on wearing a Dropkick Murphys shirt and going to a bunch of SXSW film screenings.

I might see DMBQ later, if the Dir-en-Grey concert is Industry only (which I'm pretty sure it is).

Heh its the exact same up here, considering a good majority of Glaswegians can't fucking stand the Irish (especially republic) nothing much really happens. Only in Irish-"Celtic" pubs.

I have never seen the big thing in St. Patrick day anyways, all seems like a colossal waste of time and since it falls on a Friday there isnt the old "Oh its just an excuse to get drunk". Its Friday, you fucking well should be.

Dinner Mar 16, 2006 09:03 PM

I'm going to be working, then I'll go home after that. VERY exciting!

Shit man, even if Ireland tried attacking the US we'd just rename the holiday to something retared like St. Freedom's Day and sell shirts that said "Kiss Me I'm Free".

Stupid ass patriotism.

guyinrubbersuit Mar 17, 2006 02:16 AM

I completely forgot that it was St. Patty's Day tomorrow and I probably won't do shit and I'm fine with that.

Locke Mar 17, 2006 08:52 AM

Well, looks like I'll be going to a Raptors game tonight (Raptors vs. Bucks). I'm not a big fan of basketball, but it's hard not to get excited when you've got tickets just 9 rows off the court, straddling centre court.

After that, probably a pub crawl downtown :)

Awesome man, congrats! You won't need to be a basketball fan to have one helluva good time, so enjoy yourself to the fullest!

I'm at work right now, and I'm extremely tempted to go home on my lunch break and take some shots, then return to work in a MUCH better mood.

I'm going to a club tonight to watch a local band play a benefit performance. I think it'll be fun, considering this is the first time I'm going to see an indies band play. Also, I'll be drunk so I know I'll enjoy myself! :p

Abstractication Mar 17, 2006 10:07 AM

I'm supposed to be going over my boyfriend's house for a "pancake party", there will be pancakes, but we'll get drunk eventually, probably no green beer though. Then I might be going to a local punk/ska show tonight if we have a ride. Even if it wasn't St. Patrick's day I'd probably be doing this anyways, it being Friday and all.

I poked it and it made a sad sound Mar 17, 2006 10:15 AM

St Patricks Day is a huge event over here - especially in Boston. People literally bar walk all night long (hitting every single bar on a strip) and get piss drunk.

I usually make corned beef and potatoes/onions/carrots boiled, just to celebrate.

I have never been through the St. Patty's Day festivities which include all the boozing, immediately followed by a massive parade, though. It was when I was a kid, but now, the drinking into oblivion isn't very appealing.

peeack Mar 17, 2006 10:21 AM

I had one can of Harp that was lurking in the fridge since Christmas. Exciting stuff!

I think some buddies and I might swing by Hooters tonight, and then see whats going on around broad street. They usually have a parade around here, but no one over 21 ever goes to watch the parade.

Lukage Mar 17, 2006 01:14 PM

My plans involve going to work. And working. And coming home. And trolling forums. Then probably touching myself.

Furby Mar 18, 2006 06:31 AM

I have been drinking for hours now and i;mstill kind drunk but shit, i'm having fun. HAPPYU STAIN PATTIES DAY TO ALL!!
