Music you are embarassed to like

As much as I am a fan of hard rock, rap, hip-hop, old school heavy metal, and old school punk, I have to admit I do have Fiona Apple in my music collection. I dig her thought provoking lyrics and her strong emotions conveyed. It isn't so much that I am embarassed to like her, but a lot of people are surprised to come across it among my CDs.

So who or what do you listen to that just sticks out like a sore thumb?

YO PITTSBURGH MIKE HERE Mar 2, 2006 04:03 PM

I'm actually a pretty big fan of some Simon and Garfunkel. They just harmonize so well, and the music is pretty chill, something I like in my music. I also fucking love 80's rock (think Flash FM on Vice City). I don't know what it is about it, but I always turn up the radio whenever some comes on.

xman25 Mar 2, 2006 04:04 PM

Well, I suppose some people would make fun of me for liking Jennifer Love Hewitt's music. Normally I'm a classic rock ('60's through '80's) and classic country ('50's through '80's) fan. But, what can I say, I like Jennifer.

xman25

Agent Olive Mar 2, 2006 04:05 PM

I think the Linkin Park/Jay-Z collaboration album is awesome.

Simon and Garfunkle kick ass.

xman25 Mar 2, 2006 04:06 PM

I like Simon and Garfunkle too. But, I'm not embarassed by it.

Iwata Mar 2, 2006 04:09 PM

my biggest guilty pleasure and one i love with a passion is...

Duran Duran. I still listen to their albums " Rio" and " Seven & Ragged tiger" at least twice a week.

tompilk Mar 2, 2006 04:33 PM

s & g rule... and im 15.. and admit it at school... no probs...
Tom

J-Man Mar 2, 2006 04:43 PM

I like that Cheers Theme song. (^-^)

Does that make me a bad person?

Sian Mar 2, 2006 05:16 PM

....

Pussycat Dolls

SpaceOddity Mar 2, 2006 05:17 PM

I'd probably be most embarrassed to admit that I like most of the 80's new wave stuff. And Neil Diamond. LOL.

Peter Mar 2, 2006 05:22 PM

Some people will laugh, but I really like the Cardigans. Yes, their music may be a bit too commercial at times, but they're just an awesome band. I must have listened to Gran Turisme thousands of times, even now.

Another small embarassement is anime or game music, since I tend to get weird looks when I turn up the volume too loud, so now I usually use headphones to listen to it. I've really haven't listened to a lot lately anyway.

Anyways, i'm into alot of rocky stuff, and heavy screamy metal so it's kinda weird that i still like listening to the good ol' boybands from the 90's such as Backstreet Boys and N*Sync. If i told my friends i would be so disowned

Jessykins Mar 2, 2006 05:29 PM

I secretly enjoy Shpongle, Sasha and other trancey sort of music. It's worse because I told all my friends I could never find artists who do that kind of music worth listening to.

Damn me.

Niekon Mar 2, 2006 05:31 PM

okay... everyone "embarassed" by liking stuff from the 80's... easy on the era, that's the stuff I grew up on.
Duran Duran... I'll admit I had the thin tie and lived by whatever album they had recently released.

But the one group that I hate to admit liking but own both albums (I think they only released two albums) would be Aqua. for some reason I like them and can't figure out for the life of me why... O_o

soulsteelgray Mar 2, 2006 05:43 PM

I'm usually embarassed to admit that I have quite a bit of fondness for the Spice Girls and the boy bands of the late 90's. Ahh, the simple days...

knkwzrd Mar 2, 2006 06:12 PM

Naughty By Nature.
I have to admit, I am down with O.P.P.

Iwata Mar 2, 2006 06:15 PM

Nice sig, you happen to catch the We Jame Econo doc? the Minutemen are the greatest band ever.

CloudNine Mar 2, 2006 06:25 PM

After much prodding by my friend and getting dragged to a concert by her, I will have to admit that I enjoy Hanson. She still yells at me when I wont admit that I like them.

Although a tad emo, they are actually very talented musicians. It's a shame that they will forever be in the shadow of stupid mmm bop was.

I did manage to see that, and yes. Yes they are.
Nice avatar yourself. Forever Changes is unstoppable.

Borg1982 Mar 2, 2006 09:01 PM

I'm embarrassed to like a minimal amount of Eminem and like 4 other rap songs in the history of rap music. I'm also embarrassed to have hardcore VGM going when I'm not used to a person who is in the room.

Summonmaster Mar 2, 2006 09:06 PM

Embarrassed to have several songs like this on my list:

"Only Hope" by Mandy Moore - the piano has a VERY touching accompaniment
"Delux (Eurobeat Mix)" by Key A Kiss (Para Para Paradise) - 5 minutes of Jpopish girly stuff
"Sarabai! Happy Hen" from Azumanga Daioh: Chiyo Image Album - Get this song NOW. If you've seen Azumanga Daioh, you'll know Chiyo is a little girl, and having her sing this very childish sounding song will definitely generate cockeyed looks
"Mei Li De Jia Xiang" (Drummania) - I'd be branded as a Chinese wannabe if anyone heard me listening to this.
"So Fabulous, So Fierce" by Jocelyn Enriquez (DDR) - This freakout remix sounds like something used in a cardio class.
O Jiya (Drummania) - This hindi song adds to my list of foreign language songs. Anything not Japanese or English would be considered strange when people watch me listening.

Dark Nation Mar 2, 2006 09:09 PM

Generally for everyone that I know, they know that I like a lot of music, and so I don't usually get embarrased at anything, except for my family, if I have foreign-language music on... then I usually turn it down with a little red blush on my cheek :p

Helloween Mar 2, 2006 09:14 PM

I'm not embarassed by any of the music i like, i'm used to people not seeing eye to with me on music.

but the stuff that probably sticks out the most among Dream Theater, Helloween, Blind Guardian, Iced Earth etc, in my CD collection would probably The Crash Test Dummies, Tanzwut, The White Stripes, and Weird Al. I normally keep my CDs in alphabetical order, so people get a bit surprised when they get near the end of the line.

On my computer a have a few Puhdys songs, some In Extremo, and Corvus Corax that i enjoy listening to. Also I was really into Ghoti Hook for along time, and you'll find alot of their stuff on my computer as well. I've been through alot.

Outlaw Mar 2, 2006 09:28 PM

Um....Good Charlotte :ashamed: ......Yeah, you herd me....even though I only own their first two albums. They stick out like a sore thumb in my collection that is made up mostly of Metallica, NIN, Godsmack, and other hard rock/metal bands.

jRev Mar 2, 2006 09:35 PM

I've got some Culture Club, Pointer Sisters and Spice Girls music that I never play with company present. Oh, and SAFETY DANCE!

Single Elbow Mar 2, 2006 09:38 PM

Hahaha, once I had Chingy's Right Durr once.. and Madonna's Frozen among some shit I don't want to mention.

And I have Econoline Crush's Razor Blades and Bandaids that I bought from like way before.

magewarrior Mar 3, 2006 05:07 PM

Well Im not embarrased about it, but few people like my taste in music, honestly I like alote of boybands, yes Im a guy and yes I listen to that type of music, and I get teased for doing so, however I think they are quite decent, I dont know really, but boybands have that harmony while they sing, like boyz II men for example. Anywho, so yeah, I think Im done, well "later days" :p

walko Mar 3, 2006 05:12 PM

i'm always embarassed to like Video game music.... i know it's stupid , but a lot of people think that VGM are low quality music ...

Echolyn Mar 3, 2006 07:05 PM

A lot of people are retards...

There that should make you liking vgm put you at ease. :P

Immortal Mar 3, 2006 07:08 PM

To be honest, I don't dislike Linkin Park. Sure, they're emo and angsty with simple music, but it sounds good at obnoxiously loud volume levels. Well to me at least.

Jonathan Ingram Mar 3, 2006 07:16 PM

Despite my taking to metal, I seem to have a soft spot for classic R & B music, which makes for some amusement when my playlist ends up being Slayer, Testament, and Iron Maiden followed by Michael Jackson. The only reason I'm embarrassed by it is because my friends keep on makes jokes about it being due to my mixed race heritage that I like both.

Oh, and for some reason I like "My Humps". What? It's good for what it is!

Breakable Mar 3, 2006 09:14 PM

Britney Spears & Backstreet boys - Larger than crazy life.
Its a mix of their two songs.

Did I win?

Lizardcommando Mar 3, 2006 11:25 PM

As much as I hate to admit this.... J-pop. I listen to J-pop...

...And video game music. i don't really mention to people I listen to video game music. In fact, I never let anyone listen to my music unless they too are video game music fans. Kinda selfish (not the right choice of word, but I can't think of anything else), isn't it?

JackTheRipper Mar 3, 2006 11:29 PM

I'm not really embarassed about listening to my music, but I'm sure if people saw Chumbawamba mixed in with System of a Down, Metallica, Bad Religion and Nirvana, they would be like "wtf"

Snowknight Mar 3, 2006 11:33 PM

I listen to classical music mainly. Out of the few non-classical CDs that I own, I'm kind of ashamed to own a couple James Taylor CDs/vinyls. My parents both listened to him, so, as a child, I picked up listening to him. I don't really listen to him anymore, though.

Paco Mar 3, 2006 11:35 PM

Have you guys ever heard of Baltimora? No?

Well... When you listen to it you'll understand why I'm ashamed to <3 it with a passion. :tpg:

Mana Dragon Mar 3, 2006 11:45 PM

Outside of my VGM, which I must admit a few track I would not listen to in public without headphones.

In the rest of my music, when people would look through my collection mostly Dream Theater, Metallica, Porcupine Tree, Muse, Opeth, Emperor, most would wonder about me when they see two particular CDs, Phil Collins and Michael Jackson, yeah, sometimes I wonder myself.

Schadenfreude Mar 4, 2006 12:04 AM

People say I should be ashamed that I listen to My Chemical Romance. Also for the fact that I am keen on various "indie"/"scenester" (what?) bands and a lot of 80's music (pop/new wave, mainly. AFOS = <3).

Blanka Mar 4, 2006 12:08 AM

um.. I guess I would go with Kenny Loggins and a lot of the 80's Rock. But, most importantly, the Rocky soundtrack.. 0_o

Son of Wiseness Mar 4, 2006 12:14 AM

I'm a type of hip hop & rap person. But I'm a little embarrased to listen to Kelly Clarkson.

The only thing that comes to mind is the following:

http://xoomer.virgilio.it/amasoni200...our_(1990).htm

I have the tape of music Pizza hut put out, but am glad I never saw the live action video of it however. Sheesh... :cow:

Von Mar 4, 2006 02:38 PM

Er, classical?

It's always fun to open your windows at a red light and blast out some Piano Concerto with subwoofers.

I like singles from people I should be embarassed for listening to; that Wake Me Up Inside or whatever from Evanescence, Kelly Clarkson's 'Because of You,' Utada Hikaru's 'Passion,' etc.

DeLorean Mar 4, 2006 03:37 PM

Eh... when youre having girl problems, Jewel isnt so bad. I think that's more embarassing than ALL of yours! (Except that Foina Apple guy :P)

Jiraiya Mar 4, 2006 03:47 PM

Not really embarassed, but I get a lot of crap for listening to James Blunt. Also sometimes I get laughed at for listening to Chumbawumba.

I listen a lot of mexican bubblegum pop from time to time. There was a time back in high school were it was a sin to listen anything "prefrabricated", however, I discovered that I really like a very broad range of genres, including teen pop, and I shouldn't care at all, not even feel embarassed.

Living Legend Mar 4, 2006 05:08 PM

One of the most hated bands that I listen to is probably No Doubt. People search through my cd collection and ALWAYS ask "Why the hell do you have Tragic Kingdom for?"

I like their music, I think Gwen has a good voice and the music is just really catchy...

Paco Mar 4, 2006 05:14 PM

You know what? Tragic Kingdom was, by and large, No Doubt's only good album and there is NOTHING wrong with liking that album.

Now listening to her solo album... That's something you SHOULD be embarrased about. :p

el jacko Mar 4, 2006 07:08 PM

My friends frequently question my taste in "Japanese lounge pop" as they call it, and my liking of the woman's voice (a lot of my music is by women).

I think I should be embarrased by my music, but I don't really care much. I enjoy it and that's really all that matters.

Summonmaster Mar 5, 2006 12:32 AM

Orion.78 from DDR with all the strange shouts.
Now, Jewel (Kilcher) who used to be my favourite artist like a decade ago before she stopped being a hippie.
If I can get my hands on some Judy and Mary singles I think I'll be reluctant about those too.

Dee Mar 5, 2006 11:54 PM

How is Simon and Garfunkel embarassing to like? I find it something to be more proud of than some rap or country.

Some music I'm embarassed to play in public are probably some of those cheesy anime songs. That and musical music (Phantom of the Opera, etc.) Not something you usually play when there's company around.

Brillo Mar 6, 2006 01:26 AM

I have made an entire playlist of such music. Observe:
http://img388.imageshack.us/img388/8...hameful4yj.jpg
Essentially the list boils down to:
1. Music that is undeniably cheesey and/or unabashadly pop-ish (Iron Maiden, SSH, Metal, Techno, some of the rap stuff.)
2. Music that I shamefully like, but would hate if it were translated or if I listened to it within the context of another media form (L'arc, Asian Kung-Fu Generation, Sparklehorse - which sounds a bit like a soundtrack to the OC.)
3. Stuff that is decent, but probably overrated in most contexts (Postal Service, etc.)
4. Music that is most certainly good, but I love it with such a passion that it puts itself into shame (Stevie Wonder, Queen, Simon and Garfunkle.)

Menzoberranzan Mar 7, 2006 07:01 AM

Embarassed to say but I do happen to like a few Hilary Duff songs (Though I think she is abominable lol)

xSummonerYUnax Mar 7, 2006 07:38 AM

I have exactly one Aaliyah song. I keep it on my hard drive under a pseudonym (I've even forgotten what it was originally called) and listen to it only with headphones, even when no one's around.

That song shares the new Shame Playlist (wonderful idea, BTW) with a crummy vocal based on Earthbound's "Flying Man" theme. I like the theme, and that song is the closest to an orchestrated version I'm ever going to get.

goldeneye2131 Mar 7, 2006 03:32 PM

I'm not really embarrassed to listen to this, but people say I should be...Backstreet Boys...they are just...good.

And for all those who ask if it is embarrassing to listen to Simon and Garfunkel? No no no no....they are amazing, and as for their solo stuff, I even dig some of Paul Simon's.....Kodachrome brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it....

Man_of_Pie Mar 7, 2006 05:24 PM

Ok I admit it. I like that fucking Gwen Stefani song with the pirates and the Asian chicks dunking a pirate ship into a fish tank.

Lord Jaroh Mar 7, 2006 05:39 PM

I'm not embarassed by any music that I like. I like songs based on how good they sound to me, not how they sound to someone else. Even if I happen to like some songs by bands that other people find "disagreable", I don't particularly care, since I'm the one that likes the song(s), not them.

In short, don't be embarassed by anything you like. It's your preferance. If others disagree with you, that's their perogative, but don't let them dictate what you should and shouldn't like.

I'll get off my high horse now, just thought I'd share. Time to go back to listening to my Savatage Christmas Music.

Lost_solitude Mar 8, 2006 12:23 AM

Electronica and pop. People like Aqua Cher and the backstreet boys. I mean can you hate me? Songs like Dr. Jones, Different kined of love song, Larger than life, Backstreets back. Come on those were actualy good. Also now rap has gotten so bad that I am embarrased to say I listen to it...The 80's were golden.

Darkcomet72 Mar 8, 2006 12:32 AM

One time I just went all out and open minded and decided to listen to completely random songs. So yeah, at one point I was listening to N-sync's music and going "hey this is actually really good"

It made me realize how narrow minded some people can be.

*AkirA* Mar 8, 2006 12:44 AM

I absolutely love Tori Amos. Too bad id be called a fag if my friends knew this.

I often listen to all broadway radio stations.

...and I'm straight. It's almost an oxymoron.

Lee-chan Mar 8, 2006 03:34 PM

my math teacher used to say that there are two types of people in the world; ones who like ABBA, and ones who pretend they don't.

Jan Mar 8, 2006 04:17 PM

I dunno. I mean I like hardcore ganster rap, but then I also like bubbly, happy benami music. Not much in the middle though. -_-;;

majario Mar 8, 2006 05:44 PM

I like rap music but hidden in my collection I have Lil' Romeo. Some of the beats are infectious so I'm drawn to it. If my friends knew they'd probably wouldn't leave me alone till I threw his stuff in the trash.

RABicle Mar 9, 2006 04:49 AM

I refuse to comment on rumours that I own a Hilary Duff album.

Dalkaen Mar 9, 2006 09:50 AM

I'm not really embarrassed to listen to any of my music. But I might get somewhat embarrassed listening to Architecture in Helsinki or DragonForce in front of other people...

Phoque le PQ Mar 9, 2006 12:17 PM

I can't believe I already listened to NKOB!!!

wrt recent music... i have to admit that some of the cheesy pop music (britney, amon all) can be bearable. Weren't it for katimavik, I would never have listened to so much pop :p

NinjaSwiftblade Mar 9, 2006 04:38 PM

Haa..music I'm embarassed about... Mmm... I like that Shakira song...Whenever, Wherever...I think it's catchy. Haaaa.

Oh and sometimes I'll bust out my old New Found Glory CD's...but I only listen to them for nostalgia reasons...or so I like to tell myself...

Frylock Mar 9, 2006 10:06 PM

Er...since I'm not really a country music person, people get really surprised when I say I like Blue Rodeo. I think they're great. I don't have any of their cds, mind you, but I don't cringe when I hear them on the radio like I do for other country singers. Besides, I don't really consider them that country-ish anyway.

No one I know listens to video game music, so I get a few eyebrow lifts from that corner, but it's not something I'm embarassed to admit listening to.

I'm not at all ashamed of the music I listen to. It's my choice, and if the people around me look at it differently, that is their problem. I have faith in my musical tastes after all.

Kairyu Mar 12, 2006 06:15 AM

Generally I'm not afraid to share my taste in music with other people around me. But I do recall being a little shy when turning up music from the 12 Girls Band. Surprisingly I got a good response out of it while playing the music during my lab class. Good times were had by all =p.

Elcee Mar 12, 2006 08:15 AM

Embarrassment isn't quite the feeling. For the 'sake of simplicity', I normally don't mention that I listen anything other than Death Metal/Black Metal/Hardcore/Metalcore acts; Between the Burried and Me being a top choice. It's just unacceptable, among my peers of similar fandom, that I can tolerate nonaggressively or even enjoy *gasp* anything that doesn't sound like a high powered sink disposal.

Kind of a vague answer.

S?ecter Mar 13, 2006 12:26 AM

I'm a little embarrased about liking Alexisonfire, as most people think of them as mainstream "shitcore" around where I live. I also like Neil Young, a lot, and not many people are hardcore Neil Young fans like I am, so it's a bit embarrasing when people find out I like Neil Young that much...

kinkymagic Mar 13, 2006 04:35 AM

I must admit that I like 'Save the Best 'till last' by Vanessa Williams. I will be handing my penis over shortly.

EmpyreanHorizon Mar 13, 2006 06:40 AM

Majority of the people I hang out with are hiphop rap or r&b lovers. I happen to lend my ipod to a friend and totally forgot that there was a genre, 'polka' in there (weird al). As stupid as some of his songs are, i just can't delete them. I need to have a complete album--the good songs and the bad--or no album at all and sometimes you just need something idiotic to keep you sane through the last years of college life.

Angel Mar 14, 2006 03:36 PM

I remember being ashamed like hell for being a H.I.M fan when I was younger... but that's a long time ago so...

Helloween Mar 14, 2006 10:14 PM

For a while i was going through a german music obsession. Along the way i picked up In Extremo, Tanzwut and some other stuff that didn't stick quite as much. Upon my recent purchase of an ipod, i put everything i have on it, and often play it on shuffle. I end up finding old stuff i don't listen to anymore. My friend was listening to it the other day and an In Extremo song came up (for those of you who don't know, they're heavy metal with bag pipes. Sort of folky metal...... yeah well i think it's cool.) and the first words out of his mouth were "What the Fuck?".

Among the old stuff i don't listen to anymore that don't really match my advertised taste would be Tanzwut, In Extremo, Rob Zombie, Foo Fighters, Metallica, and *shudders* Sum 41, but i got rid of them quite quickly. I can't stand them anymore.

xiaowei Mar 14, 2006 10:19 PM

Daphne Loves Derby. I know I shouldn't like them. It's a slab of pure cheese, but I can't deny that a large portion of me enjoys them. Maybe because I really don't listen to my the lyrics half of the time.

Jeff135 Mar 15, 2006 01:13 AM

Classical music and ONLY classical music :D

Sometimes I enjoy to listening to other types of music but classical is really the one genre of music I listen to on a constant basis.

xman25 Apr 12, 2006 10:37 PM

I have to admit that Kelly Clarkson has grown on me. Also, Minnie Driver (yes, the actress) has some songs that I like.

oh, and Bloodhound Gang

elwe Apr 12, 2006 11:20 PM

The theme song for Arthur, one of the best cartoons ever made. Nobody knows about this. ;)

Every day when you're
Walking down the street,
Everybody that you meet
Has an original point of view.
And I say - Hey! (Hey!)
What a wonderful kind of day
If we could learn to work and play
And get along with each other.

You gotta listen to your heart,
Listen to the beat,
Listen to the rhythm,
The rhythm of the street.
Open up your eyes.
Open up your ears.
Get together
And make things better
By working together.

It's a simple message,
And it comes from the heart.
Believe in yourself,
For that's the place to start.

And I say - Hey! (Hey!)
What a wonderful kind of day
If we could learn to work and play
And get along with each other.

Hey! What a wonderful kind of day. Hey!
What a wonderful kind of day. Hey!

Hah! I always find myself humming the tune to this song when I'm alone.

And there's nothing wrong with Simon and Garfunkel!

How can you be ashamed of a list with L' Arc en Ciel, and Stratovarious in it?

Amy-Chan Apr 13, 2006 12:36 PM

I like to listen to Vanilla Ice(ice ice baby) really loud and see if people dance...and they do, another good one is thriller.

I like to sing UB40 in my car. I love them.

And apparently I should be embarassed to listen to my THEME SONG cd's. they have things like TMNT, chip -n- dale rescue rangers, inspector gadget, and capt. planet. Good stuff!

Get together
And make things better
By working together.

It's a simple message,

I used to rush home from school to watch that with my sister!! Great show...now I am gonna have that one stuck in my head all day.

Heh, friends are recently trying to embarass me because I like the band T.A.T.U. Which they have some extremely catchy music, but oh well. More music for me to like I suppose. I can't get enough of their simple poppy songs.

LizardSC Apr 14, 2006 12:17 AM

I too enjoy Tori Amos, not for her lyrics, but her performance on the piano.

But this is the killer: There's this obscure 80's British pop artist named Toyah Willcox that me and a friend have been obsessed with for awhile. Well, my sister, my friend's girlfriend, and one of her male friends all got in my car to go to Taco Bell. Lo and behold, Toyah was ready in my CD player. I tried to turn it off, but the girls were like "no, we wanna hear your 80's stuff!". It was pretty embarrassing, because I knew they thought it was awful euro-pop trash. I tried to talk over Toyah; but she killed all conversation!

i'm not embarassed by what i listen too. my favorite bands are Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, and Metallica, but if there's one good song i should (but aren't) embarassed of is the pokemon song

valiant Apr 14, 2006 11:21 PM

I love Eurobeat, I am making an attempt to spread it around more to make it slightly more...well known

Rachel Stevens puts out some electronic-pop singles that any unabashed fan of the genre wouldn't be able to deny as being good, but apparently she's become such an embarrassment nobody wants to be seen buying her records and she's fallen by the wayside. This when the god-knows-why more credible Madonna is thriving with inferior electronic-pop records.

The situation is one at the root of what is wrong with music today.

That song rocks my stripey socks ;_;. I was staying at my nana's years ago when it was all the rage and she saw me watching it on some saturday morning show, ever since then she's bought me something pokemon for birthdays and such. I have 2 soundtracks, millions of toys, stickers, the works. Some of the music is pretty damn catchy, but still when it says pokemon a million times in the song I can't help but feel embarassed when I listen to it.

some movie music I would say, like the new Enchanted movie

Krelian Mar 19, 2008 05:01 PM

Thread necromancy.

I'm pretty ashamed of how much I enjoy In Flames.

The Rock Mar 21, 2008 05:05 AM

I'm pretty embarassed how much I am enjoying the Hairspray soundtrack. I never listen to this type of music, but the songs on the soundtrack are just so catchy.

Omnislash124 Mar 21, 2008 06:18 AM

I enjoy J-Pop, actually. I'm not terribly embarassed about liking it, but it's definitely something that I wouldn't blast out of my headphones. VGM also falls under this category. I just find that it's more interesting if I don't have to worry about the lyrics (either they don't have any, or I can't understand them) which have ruined a song for me on more than 1 occasion. My friends do question my preference in songs lacking understandable lyrics though.

Chaotic Mar 21, 2008 06:25 AM

Dance music in general. My friends either listen to hip-hop or rock. I'm the ONLY one who likes Dance music... I'm especially a huge fan of trance music.

guyinrubbersuit Mar 21, 2008 09:29 AM

Outside of all the metal I listen to, which gets mocked and curious looks in its own right, I do enjoy some Journey, Salt n Pepa, Europe and some various mainstream rap. Though I'm not particularly embarrassed by it. Oh yeah and I do enjoy Avenged Sevenfold which is a band that typically gets scorn.

Elegy Mar 23, 2008 10:36 PM

I'm not embarrassed at all about how much I love video game/anime music, but some bands and artists I just feel silly liking. In particular:

Sarah McLachlan and Tori Amos. I'm not big on "chick" music, but their songs in general are pretty and they have great voices. I also like find it weird I like Placebo a lot since the lead singer's voice is annoyingly whiny and their lyrics are beyond retarded. Their songs are just damned catchy. *shakes fist* Also, trace/rave/whatever music.

NovaX Mar 24, 2008 06:52 AM

I absolutely love anything Kanye West. I really dislike most Hip-Hop/Rap music, but Kanye just tickles me in the right place eveytime. I also hid the fact that I listened to 50 Cent's Get Rich or Die Tryin' in bed every night for a year.

aesop Mar 24, 2008 07:16 AM

I have 3 AFI albums - that's maybe 3 more than I really should. But I can live with it.

Shively Mar 24, 2008 03:36 PM

Pretty much any 80's pop, Beattles, ABBA, Fat Boys ( only rap I like )

Weird Al outside the game music scene although it was funny watching my brother and his friends get excited when Amish Paradise started to play but they expected the original artist in which was not the case

dusk Mar 24, 2008 04:23 PM

Artists I'm quite embarrassed to admit liking:
- Ashlee Simpson - I recognize the fact that she has no talent. But her songs, they are catchy.
- A few songs from A*Teens (ABBA Teens).
- Legally Blonde Musical soundtrack - Before I heard the soundtrack, I despised anyone who sang "Oh My God You Guys", but then one night I decided to check the soundtrack out, and fell in love with it. What a hypocrite I am.

Artists/Music I'm not embarrassed about, but others may consider embarrassing:
- Britney Spears - Not gonna lie, her latest album is sometimes on repeat on my iPod.
- Paramore - A lot of people take a disliking to this band for some reason, but I like their songs.
- Benny Benassi - Sometimes annoying, but always catchy.
- Kylie Minogue - Her latest CD rocks, as does she. Better than Madonna, methinks.
- Bjork - Another artist some people can't stand, but sometimes her music is like artwork to my ears.

I permit you to burn me at the stake now.

blink 182 I am sorry but if the people I hang out with, my family, and anyone I knew heard of this I would be labeled gay, but those guys make me laugh damnit.
