Fantastic Four 2

The teaser trailer has officially hit online

http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/fa...esilversurfer/

I must say this looks like an improvement over the first one. If they can keep up this pace of drama, excitement, and rush all throughout the film, they may have a hit on their hands.

Furby Dec 27, 2006 02:04 AM

It looks damn amazing from the trailer. But if they bring in Silver Surfer does that mean that they will bring in...*tries to remember the name of silver surfer's master*... And make a 3rd movie??

WolfDemon Dec 27, 2006 02:13 AM

Wow. It does look a bit better than the first.

Spoiler:
I like how the Silver Surfer made Human Torch his bitch by dragging him into space. I wonder if they'll all fight a bit before having to join forces to fight Galactus or something.

Taterdemalion Dec 27, 2006 10:09 AM

The trailer was alright, but I have my doubts since the first movie sucked. But I'll end up catching it anyway. The Silver Surfer did look cool.

I think the subtitle from the movie is taken from the two part story from Fantastic Four #48 through #50, where the Fantastic Four fight the Silver Surfer and eventually join forces to stop Galactus from devouring the planet. Richards eventually drives off Galactus by threatening to use the Ultimate Nullifier (we find out almost 40 years later than the item is in fact part of Galactus, but we're not given any facts or truth on that)

In the movie, Galactus will be completely CGI and a voice actor has not been named as yet.

And you're right - the first movie was incredibly bad. And it will be very difficult to bring such a beloved story to the big screen - but I relish the remote possibility that the movie will somehow turn out good. This is one of those truely great "epics" Marvel produced in it's heyday.

rockthepartay Dec 27, 2006 11:49 AM

The look on Brian Posehn's face pretty much sums up my reaction when I heard they were making a second Fantastic Four movie.

I really can't imagine this movie being any good outside of the action sequences.

Karasu Dec 28, 2006 04:12 PM

You know...the more and more I watch the film..the more and more I kinda like it. I think the actor who plays The Human Torch is perfect for that character. Hot-headed, cocky, and punch-line-ish. I also thought the actor who played Doom was pretty cool too, he had a subtle rage and wit in him, which I found interesting. I think every comic movie adaptation has their flaws, so none of them are perfect...so I have no high expectations for any comic movies to be just like the comics.

Lalala Dec 28, 2006 04:41 PM

Could it be? A sequel that might possibly be better than the original? I hope so ;__;

Domino Dec 28, 2006 05:23 PM

Well they can't really do any worse than the original.
From what I was able to get from the trailer, it is looking pretty good.
I don't know the back story to the Silver Surfer, so it would be good to see how they would go about incorporating his story into the film, without ruining the comic book version.

Im going on memory here...

Noran Radd was the lone survivor of a planet Galactus devoured. Galactus, seeing potential in the man, bestowed upon him the Power Cosmic and gave him the assignment of being the Harbinger Of Galactus. The Surfer would find a planet full of life for Galactus to absorb, but when the Surfer found a kindred spirit in Earthlings, he turned on his maker.

Instead of destroying him, Galactus damned him to Earth. If the Surfer ever left, an impentreable shield of fire and rock would block the Surfer from leaving. (This shield was later removed, allowing the Surfer to leave Earth)

Freddy Krueger Dec 28, 2006 05:55 PM

The 1st wasnt that bad, it just spent A LOT of time on developing the characters. With the first out of the way now they can get into the more action and big fights.

The first one was bad. There was far too many montages that didn't need to be there. Plus the dialog and acting was garbage and the CG was terrible.

The Silver Surfer looks kind of cool, though it's a bit surprising how the reflective properties haven't really improved since the T-1000.

jb1234 Dec 28, 2006 09:53 PM

The first movie had a lousy script. The cast was mostly good (aside from Dr. Doom who I couldn't take seriously. "Oooh, I'm evil! Watch as I bore you to death!") and the action sequences were decent enough. It was simply impossible to bond with any of the characters when they're saying such stupid dialogue. When the first half of the film is dedicated to buildling up the characters, you NEED to have a decent script.

I enjoyed this teaser though and I'm holding out hope for the finished film.

The Wise Vivi Jan 2, 2007 10:35 PM

Ok, call me stupid, but I had no idea the Silver Surfer was a bad guy. Guess I should dig into some background before watching this movie. Looks quite interesting how ever.

He was at first; more "guilty by association" than actually being evil like his master, though.

kuttlas Jan 2, 2007 11:17 PM

Why does the Silver Surfer look like it was rendered in 1996?

Galactus isn't necessarily evil though. While his insatiable hunger has brought about the destruction of millions of worlds, he is a natural aspect of the universe. It's like saying a hurricane is evil for causing widespread destruction.

While the whole "natural aspect of the universe" crap was only brought in of late, you are correct in saying he isn't nessessarily evil, simply an antogonist.

The Wise Vivi Jan 2, 2007 11:39 PM

Hmmm... This just makes me more interested in The Silver Surfer...

Vemp Jan 3, 2007 06:02 AM

Gonna watch this because of Silver Surfer, the first movie would have been better if they made Doom a bit more badass. FF is all about DOOM! (but SF and Galactus are cool too)

The Furious One Jan 3, 2007 07:05 AM

First time the movie came out I couldnt care less, but I saw this trailer which is brilliant btw, so I watched the first one. Its not bad pretty good, only thing that I had a problem with was that it took 3/4 of the movie to get to the plot.

Silver surfer looks awesome, expecially that slow motion bit when he comes out of the building. Can't wait for the full trailer.

I don't follow comics, so I'm guessing Silver Surfer is an alien not human???

Vemp Jan 3, 2007 08:35 AM

Yeah, he's an alien.

Satriani knows :p.

I haven't even gotten around to seeing the first FF movie (although my mom bought it on a whim, so I can pop it in anytime I guess), but this one looks a lot more interesting than the first. Maybe it's because I just like Silver Surfer more than the other lot (and Galactus).

Well, I think it's hard to make anything silvery/metallic look *that* much better, even now. It's kind of like the metal-art of Boris Vallejo or Julie Bell... it always looks a bit odd, even when well-done.

Balcony Heckler Jan 3, 2007 08:57 PM

I agree. this one looks really kick ass and the effects are done just right. but then again, let's just hope this isn't one of those fucking "best parts are in the commercials" movie

jouhou Jan 6, 2007 05:30 PM

AWESOME TRAILER!!!.... but that kinda felt like the whole movie right there..
I'm not feeling that, "GOTTA SEE THIS!!" feeling so I think I'm gonna wait for the dvd on this one.

Actually, he struck a deal with Galactus to save his world. The other stuff is accurate though.

Final FF2 trailer, looks great, I'll definitely be seeing this one in theatres! The Surfer speaks in this one.

The most recent Batman film also spent a lot of time on character development, but it didn't negatively affect the plot. That being said, I enjoyed FF. It was a fun comic book romp. It wasn't gripping like Batman, and you didn't empathize with the characters like in Spider-man, but it was just fun. I've watched it a couple of times recently when it was on HBO, and I enjoyed it. That being said, I don't have high hopes for the sequel but if it's more of the same I'll definitely rent it when it comes out.

Marvel has woven some charm into the Spider-man films since the comics always had an air of humor & snappy banter. Ghost Rider was supposed to be serious, Blade was serious, The Hulk was serious... I think perhaps they felt it was time to just have a good fun film without playing up the "heroic angst" angle so much. Fine by me as long as they don't over-do it.

A clip from the movie:

The movie looks really good, but I'm still not feeling Jessica Alba as Sue Storm. She looks great in the uniform, but.....

KCJ506 Jun 17, 2007 06:46 PM

I enjoyed this much better than the first.

What I liked

Spoiler:
-Silver Surfer was excellent. Possibly one of the coolest image I've seen in a superhero movie. While I was disappointed his character was not explored further, I think the focus on him as a threat worked quite well and he was sympathetic.

-Evans and Chilcklis were just as fun in this one as they were in the first one. Johnny's turmoil was fun if shallow and Ben and him going at it is always a joy. Their relationship is the most believable.

-The Stan Lee cameo. Best one ever.

-Johnny getting all four powers as he fought Doom.

-Doom was decently cool this time around.

-Alba was smokin hot and I thought she played Sue decently.

What I didn't like

Spoiler:
-Running time. Too short

-Why are the military trusting someone who wants to kill the F4?

-I would have loved to see a little more feats of strength out of The Thing.

-The whole team didn't seem incredbily sad when Sue was dying. Much more emotion could have been added to this scene. When Johhny was fighting Doom he should have been furious. That was his sister. Instead he was cracking jokes and squeeling "wheee" as he used the stretching power. (Unless that's just in the ad?) It doesn't ring true. (But I admit it didn't occur to me at the time, probably because I knew of course that Sue would be fine.)

Other thoughts

Spoiler:
-Galactus was so-so i wouldn't say "bad" but it wasn't good. I thought the storm cloud thing looked really scary, you're tellling me if you saw that in real life it wouldn't scare the hell outta you? They just better have the real deal in the SS spinoff.

-At the end, when Ben hit Doom with that wrecking ball, and knocked him into the ocean, Doom should have yelled "Curse you Richards!" while flying through the air.

Hantei Jun 17, 2007 11:11 PM

Just saw this too, and I agree with KCJ506, it was much better than the first. Lots of great comedic moments, which made it quite entertaining/enjoyable. Oh and this had the best Stan Lee cameo ever! Haha, and this movie probably provided the most nudity we'll actually get out of Alba.

Heh, pretty much agree with all of KCJ506's points. But...
Spoiler:
I didn't really like how Galactus was just a storm cloud, even though it looked pretty cool and threatening. However it was a nice touch that they added a little blurred image of his head in the eye of the storm, though I didn't like how he was blown off just like that. There was potential for more!

Also, kinda wish they shown a little more of the SS, he didn't really speak much either.

Overall a enjoyable movie, that I felt was worth the time and money (though, my buddy scored a free movie cause some idiot forgot his ticket at the debit/CC only self-serve machine).
