I'm postin' on mah Wii! =D

As a good deal of you know the Opera browser trial for Wii will be released tomorrow December 22nd. The Opera browser trial is completely free (as will be the full version when it's released later this spring until around June) so log onto the Wii Shopping Channel and download it when its available.

This thread will be here for making your first posts on GFF via your Wii. Make whatever you want of it be conversation, a testing-esque thread, humor-ville, whatevs! Report any errors you encounter while using the Opera browser trial for Wii in here too.

This thread will remain closed until I recieve a PM or IM from someone saying they can use the Opera browser trial for Wii. Austrailia, New Zealand, and other PAL territories may get this before the United States yet again like they did for the Forecast Channel. I will also merge any threads that have the same purpose and are created before I reopen this thread. So if both myself and no other mods are around feel free to create a temp thread.

I look forward to this Internet Channel. :revolution:

 first post on Wii lololol

Im getting pretty good at typing on this, but it'll never be as easy as a keyboard. The browser seems to get the job done, haven't come across any flaws or glitches yet. Youtube works great, sound is good as well. One thing annoying me right now is after i put a full stop it tries to put .com or net there.

Actually the scrolling could be faster, its a bit slow and laggy when moving around the page, but loading is really quick

Malmer Dec 21, 2006 10:50 PM

Posting on mah Wii, sup =d
I'm logged in, but for some reason I still have the ability to fill out the form?

But the automatic dictionary is pretty smooth.

Yay Acer ='D

Infernal Monkey Dec 21, 2006 11:17 PM

Posting on mah computer. =)
I couldn't log into GFF at all via the Wii, no matter how many times I signed in and my fucked up pointer was even worse than the main menu. It was like trying to draw in the sand with a plastic bag. YouTube though, hurray!

That was pretty much my experience. Just sign up once (the form will still be there for you to sign in, but fuck it), and post away.

It works here anyway, though there's no "Welcome, Malmer". I'ts 1337 H4X0R!

JazzFlight Dec 22, 2006 03:12 AM

Posting on the Wii too.
This is pretty cool!

value tart Dec 22, 2006 03:34 AM

Fuck not being able to add favorites sucks. Other than that, i like this.us pages render a little fuzzy but im willing to attribute that to my lack of component cables.

Kilroy Dec 22, 2006 03:35 AM

Posting on my Wi- No, actually not. But I could have done it.
Stupid infernal blue light woke me up, but when the reward is Internet, it's okay.
It's looking pretty good. However, it annoys me I have to go back to the homepage every time I want to input a new url. Am I missing something there?
Cool it lets me browse Youtube too. Angry Nintendo Nerd on Wii? It doesn't get any better.

JazzFlight Dec 22, 2006 03:40 AM

You add favorites by being on a page, then clicking the star.

You probably just tried to add it manually, which isn't possible.

There are some notable bugs and annoyances with this beta release, but it's quite workable ATM.

BTW, still typed this on the Wii.

kupomog Dec 22, 2006 03:49 AM

Ahh the auto-complete makes life easier. I've already posted on several sites from my Wii and my hand hurts so I'll give that a rest. It's interesting to browse the internets from my TV and all, though. The first site my parents wanted me to look at was eBay so we could check our auctions, hehe. Already saved a ton of faves. Neat stuff :D

value tart Dec 22, 2006 03:53 AM

I just learned the text editor pukes on large amounts of text. The way favorites work is weird but ill take it.

JazzFlight Dec 22, 2006 04:37 AM

[back on computer]

I need to find some good portals for the Wii.

You know, pages that are specifically designed with big fonts, flash games that only use the mouse, proper page proportions, etc...

It's mainly because the font is pretty tiny, even with my 50" display.

I think some of the SA goons are trying to make one at www.fwiibird.com but as you can see it's currently under construction.

Lacerta Dec 22, 2006 04:53 AM

Holy Crap this is a tiny font. Still, it is quite some fun to browse around with. Perhaps there will be a font increase button later. Favs are kinda weird but oh well.:cow:

There's Wiicade. But since it was set up like two months before the Wii even came out, some of the games won't work with it. Jack Russell is pretty neat, has a gigantic TV friendly cursor!

I still can't post from my Wii. :( I log in, go to a thread, hit reply, asks for log in, I log in again, goes back to the thread with me still logged out. Hit reply again, asks for log in. Repeat. So many logs! So many out! I think it's just because my Wii is one massive pile of complete and utter failure.

The_Griffin Dec 22, 2006 06:36 AM

(on my comp, will post on Wii later)

Sounds to me like you Wii's not accepting the login cookies for GFF. :(

I have no clue how to fix it, though... *sigh*

surasshu Dec 22, 2006 07:25 AM

Woo! It's TOTALLY working. This is pretty sweet, and also useless. But sweet. :D

Man it's hard to add a smiley! :(

EDIT: Aaaaand italics don't seem to work. Which makes me very sad. It also seems to like to add "us" to the end of periods if your sentence isn't long enough.

Grawl Dec 22, 2006 08:31 AM

Posting on my new pc, since typing using the Wiimote takes way too long.

Amayirot Akago Dec 22, 2006 08:50 AM

Posting with my Wii right now, which is pretty useless as my PC is on the same desk :p Though now I can post while lying on my bed :D

The_Griffin Dec 22, 2006 09:22 AM

Well, here we are. I'm actually posting on my Wii. Surprisingly, it's a rather complete browser. It has Flash capability, although I'm not sure what version it has. DON'T ASK HOW I KNOW. :tpg:

It's not perfect, though. I'm disappointed in the utter lack of anything approaching right-click functionality, and you can't customize shit. I'm worried a little about viruses and other BS, too. Still, it's damn good for what is basically a beta. Well, I'm gonna go to bed now.
Cripes, acer, HOW DID YOU LINK THAT IMAGE?

Niekon Dec 22, 2006 09:31 AM

I would have posted from my Wii this morning if I wasn't didn't keep getting errors during the download process. Either the servers are getting so overworked or something wrong with my Wiireless connection... which I don't think is the case since I am able to d/l the VC games without any problems.

But I had to leave and come to work... guess I have to try again later this afternoon/evening...

Niekon for teh suck...

speculative Dec 22, 2006 09:42 AM

On sdtv I can just barely read the text. Time for some Youtube on the boob tube. :)

The Plane Is A Tiger Dec 22, 2006 10:13 AM

I had the same problem Niekon. I think I got it to work on my fourth try, and it still took awhile.

This is pretty spiffy, but sucks for forums with this font size. It also feels a bit silly to use the Wii to slowly type when my laptop is three feet away. Time to go try out some Flash games!

(If it wasn't already painfully obvious, I'm postin' from mah Wii!)

EDIT (from the computer for sanity's sake): Apparently it only allows capitalizing an entire word or just the first letter of a word. Nothing in between, because that would be too simple. It's a rather odd quirk that I discovered when trying to inform someone that I was "PMing" them from my Wii.

scotty Dec 22, 2006 10:26 AM

testing my wii post before heading off to school :)

FatsDomino Dec 22, 2006 10:54 AM

Posting on my Wii!
Now how did someone get youtube to work? It said it needed the flash plug-in, but couldn't find a compatible browser... :(

Not what I am talking about. Even with zoom the fonts are still small here. I'm referring to the Text Size increaser that most browsers have to make the actual fonts bigger.

posting with a novelty browser; whooooo!

Wall Feces Dec 22, 2006 06:34 PM

IT'S A TRAP!

This is awesome and can only get better with the final version. I want a keyboard

Dunno, it just works over here, watching another vid on it right now. Are you in North America? The one PAL regions got could be slightly different. I can't think of any other reason why some would work with youtube and some not.

Also those complaining the text is small do know you can zoom in with + right?

The Plane Is A Tiger Dec 22, 2006 09:26 PM

Yeah, but it zooms in levels rather than gradual. I find it really annoying to have to scroll over to see all the text sometimes, and trying to position it just right. Honestly, the best use I've found for the browser is web comics. I always have a tendency to accidentally look at the last panel first just due to eye movement, but by zooming in each panel takes up my full TV screen.

Black Mage Dec 22, 2006 09:44 PM

A post from my Wii for good measure. I`m actually enjoying the browser quite a bit, despite its being something of a novelty.

Nintendonomicon Dec 22, 2006 11:07 PM

Posting on my Wii liek wut!!
(Keeping it short because there’s no keyboard)·

I guess the American Wii's are shafted somehow.

Kilroy Dec 23, 2006 11:17 AM

So, this is actually written on my Wii. It's a rather nifty dictionary, so it's a breeze writing with it. I think I'd prefer some kind of usb keyboard support though... Else posting can be quite a bore.

Nah, mine works with YouTube and Google Video.

Turbo Dec 23, 2006 01:46 PM

So I finaly got around to doing this. Slow typing.

Confirmed that www.aimonpsp.com works and that another site, the exact site I forget... EasyIM I think... Google it.

Bah...said I needed the Flash plug-in and Macromedia couldn't identify the browser. I thought it was confirmed that ALL American Wii's couldn't do this yet. Gotta figure out whether or not my machine isn't working (NOOOOOOOOOOO, VC GAMES!)

EDIT: http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/games/wii/

scotty Dec 23, 2006 04:24 PM

Yeah, I am able to stream videos on youtube, and stream music off of last.fm with no trouble. Some videos embedded into other websites don't work, saying I need a flash plug-in.

Sceptre X Dec 24, 2006 09:53 AM

Yes, Lukage, thank you for posting that: Albino does work with the Wii! Yeah!

I have yet to get one, but tomorrow is a new day...:P

I was just pointing out a few browser-based games that work with it. Also, if anyone (everyone) wants to use tabbed browsing:

Quote:

Well this made things a lot easier! Histoplasmosis sent us a link which shows you how to do tabbed browsing on your Opera Wii browser. It is extremely simple actually! All you do is open up your Wii browser, and visit the address http://team-dsx.net/ds/basic.php. Once you go there, a little tab will pop up in your browser.

K_ Takahashi Dec 25, 2006 01:22 AM

first anything done on this browser. The word selection really saves time but cant complain where there's a computer near it.

Lukage Dec 25, 2006 01:51 AM

Just found out my USB keyboard doesn't work with the Wii...The F-lock does, but that's all. :(

Ryunam Dec 25, 2006 02:13 PM

I'm posting from my newly-acquired WII! All I have to say is that, despite some minor flaws, my initial impression is enthusiastic. The fact that it's compatible with YouTube, even in its beta form, already makes this browser a great addition.

Can't wait for the final version!

velocity7 Dec 25, 2006 05:15 PM

I managed to log in just fine. Though it'd be nice if I could use my USB keyboard.

Need Japanese support soon. You can add Japanese Wii owners to your list, so it seems.

Editing ftw.

WolfDemon Dec 25, 2006 11:20 PM

Wii postage, hoo!~

EDIT: And back on the PC. I'm loving the browser so far. Except that whole issue with certain streaming video needing a flash plugin or Windows Media Player. Hopefully the final version will have all of that fixed. I needs my Wii Porn.

lemonmanko Dec 26, 2006 02:30 AM

web browsing on my tv? i will gladly hand nintendo $5USD for this

i wonder what they'll add in the full version
btw im posting on my wii!!

FatsDomino Dec 26, 2006 02:37 PM

I hope they add usb keyboard compatibility, faster/smoother scrolling, text scaling, wide-screen support, and better flash support. My friend and I were watching homestarrunner.com on his Wii and it was kind of annoying how the audio got out of sync because the Wii just couldn't keep up for some reason.

Cheezeman3000 Dec 29, 2006 11:56 AM

Anyone else notice that the 'cache' for the downloaded content is rather... small? And that after browsing several websites it really slows down, to the point of not even loading anymore? They need to fix this by either clearing out the cache every time a new page is loaded, or by increasing the size limit.

Elixir Jan 2, 2007 11:42 PM

Posting from my Wii.

The typing is slow, annoying, boring and dull. Yay.

I dunno, this is neat, but that's about all. Bringing up a seperate menu for a fucking apostrophe is dumb. I don't really like how poor gff's main forum page looks either. A fun novelty? Yes. But when I could take 15 seconds out of my life to reach my own computer, this isn't really worth the hassle.

Traumatized Rat Jan 12, 2007 05:50 PM

Screw this noise, Wii needs a keyboard to facilitate internet shenanigans. I would have been able to type two paragraphs in the amount of time this has taken me to type two sentences. Screw all of you. I'm gunna play Zelda now.
Tards!
