Pack your shit up Kurado.
I just moved where I'm at now yesterday. I've moved far too many times in my life and it got me counting... At least once in Guatemala before leaving for the states in 1984, eleven in California and ten in Nevada if we don't count the different places I did time at since that wasn't a choice. In Guatemala it hasn't even been seven months yet and this is my fifth place already. All totaling for 27 places in my 25 years of life.
I've met a few people that have lived in the same house their entire life. I wonder what that must be like? Any of you here like that? There's probably some with fifty moves under their belt. Oh yeah, 28 moves because I forgot our failure in Miami back in 1994. Vote! |
I've lived in...7 places with my family (New York, Colorado, New Jersey x3, New York, Virginia), 3 places at school in Utah (effectively just call it one since it's all at school, I think), and 4 places in California on my mission, but those were mandated moves so I'm not sure they count. Six states, and I'd say 10-12 different locations. Not too bad - the only bad move was from New York to Virginia my senior year of high school, because of friends issues and the fact that I essentially lost about 15 college credits' worth of classes.
|
I've lived in four houses in my lifetime, and that's mainly because of my parents getting divorced. If it wasn't for that, we'd probably still be in house number two. Boy, was that a great place. :memories:
|
Lived in Nashville my whole life. Wait, I guess living at the dorms in Memphis counts, although that never really felt like "home", with the regular trips back and all.
What's it like living in one place all your life? It sucks. I hate this state and all the people living here so much. |
I suppose I've moved twice in my life. When I was 3 or 4, we moved from a small apartment (of which I have no memories of) to a nice little house in a quiet neighborhood. I lived there until about a year and a half ago, and now I'm living in a bigger house about 3 miles from where I previously lived. I've lived in the same town since birth.
I think I prefer staying in the same place rather than moving around. Just moving a few miles out caused enough inconvenience, without also having to meet all new people, learn new geography, etc. |
I was born and raised in the same place. For my sister, who is a couple years older than me, has moved once. My parents and my sister move just before I was born. When I look at the photos from long ago, I think about how much the place has changed. Hmmm... :pondering:
I am glad to have stayed in the same place. |
same town different places nice scenery though
|
From what I CLEARLY remember, it's at least 7. 6 times in Virginia, and I lived in a place in Georgia.
That's from what I remember though - I lived in New York, just not sure how many different houses. Same with South Korea, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. If I assume one (since I was around 4-5 in Georgia) for each of the one's I don't remember, that's 4 more - giving me a total of 11. |
I'm moving into a new place this Thursday, and it will count for the seventh time I've had to move all my shit around. Its not too bad, because I don't have a whole lot of shit to move. I plan on moving again a year after that.
One of my buddies that I know from highschool is still living in his home with his dad. He's 26, doesn't really pay any bills, and works a near minimum wage job with only a highschool education. I know that he could afford to rent a two-bedroom apartment with a roommate, but there's no way of convincing him to draw him away from his life of work-eat-sleep-play games in the basement. Of course, it could be worse...he could be his older brother who has a BS in Civil Engineering, but has sat on his ass four years out of school having never had a job (still doesn't have a job). And then there's Dan. He decided that the best way of living for him was, rather than get an apartment for ~850 a month, he would buy his parent's house at a steal for $350,000. He's paying over two grand a month just on payments and he's barely breaking even on his bills. |
Let's see.
1) First home as a baby. 2) Second home as a baby. 3) The home when my parents got divorced (an apartment). 4) The first place after my mom remarried (an apartment). 5) First home with my mom and step-dad (house). 6) Longest time I've stayed at a home (a house, about 6 years). 7) First condo. 8) House in a different city outside Tucson. 9) Two-story house. 10) My first apartment. 11) My second apartment. 12) House with roommates. 13) Current townhome I'm renting. And I will likely be moving again at the end of summer 2007. |
I've moved twice, not counting my breif time in Europe.
I was born in one house, then my dad was transfered out to Calgary. We lived there for a grand total of about a year, until my dad got a new job back in Winnipeg. I've been here ever since. useless fact, i know a girl who's lived in 7 different countries. I have enough trouble with the idea of moving within my own city, let alone overseas (again, not counting me in Europe) |
I've only lived in two places so far which kind of sucks seeing as i'm 19years old now. I lived in maltby rotherham for 18 years and now I'm residing in a city called nottingham for university.
|
I'm lucky my family hasn't considered moving. I've lived in my current house my whole life, and I've grown attached to it and it's community (i.e. school, friends). I've made such good friends at my current school and would rather not leave them, anyway.
|
I escaped along with my parents because of a civil war in my native country, the then came to the US, then moved again to GA .So 3 or 4 maybe im forgetting one..
|
I've moved a total of 8 times due to my father being in the navy back when I was young. It was all state side moves but it was always a big pain in the ass cause I remember one year I ended up going to 4 different schools.
But on the bright side I got to see alot of things cause of it. |
Holy fuck. There has to be someone with more moves than me.
It's cool to know so many different areas, but at the same time I wish I could've stayed somewhere and be a complete master of the area. I had a friend in Los Angeles and she knew that whole city end to end because of living in the same place her whole life. Closest I got to that was Vegas I guess. |
I lived in the same house from the time I was 3 to 18. Since college I've been on a steady trip farther and farther away from my homeland.
1. House as a baby in Smalltown, AL. 2. House from 3 yrs to 18yrs in the same town. 3. Lived in the same apartment all four years of college, Auburn, AL 4. Apartment in Miami, FL 5. Brief stint in Smalltown, TN 6-8. Three different apartments in Grenada 9. Huntsville, AL 10. Currently reside in a 5-person rented house in St. Vincent |
4 moves for me but they were all within a small radius from each other. They were all in the same city. So I didn't get to experience different states or countries which would have been fun.
|
I've lived in four states, two countries, and eight houses (I'm 21 already. ). Once I finish school I'm moving again ... huzzah. I love moving. My soul is a restless one.

Lessee....
1. Apartment in Birmingham when I was born. 2. House in Birmingham. 3. Moved to Miami, apartment complex. Short period of time. 4-5. Moved to Orlando, two apartment complexes that I remember 6-8. Moved to Atlanta....I wanna say we moved about 3 times here to different apartments 9. Moved back to Birmingham after my grandfather died to my grandparents house. 10. Mom stayed there while I went to Tenessee State 11. Transferred to Savannah for college. Stayed in dorms 12. Moved into my own apartment a year and a hlaf before my graduation. 13. After graduation: moved in with my aunt in Huntsville Alabama when she was diagnosed with cancer during a transition period. 14. Moved to Los Angeles for a year with my uncle. Mixed feelings on that period... 15. Moved back home to Birmingham, AL where I'm currently at now until I start Grad School My next move will probably be to the New York/New Jersey area if I have my way. :) |
Lived in the same house for the past 23 and a bit years. Sure, I've thought about moving, but have never gotten around to it. Sometime soon though, maybe.
|
I lived in three different places (though I've had five flats in and around my current city) during my lifetime. I have no real desire or need to move again any time soon but if I was going to look to buy a flat or house then I'd at least have to consider moving a little further out than where I currently am.
|
I've moved three times. The first move involved my entire family coming from a military base in the Philippines to another base in California. My family moved again when my father was transferred to a different base about two hours away, and my last move occurred when I started university and moved away from my parents.
|
I moved for the first time when I was 12 and once more during high school. Then, college kicked in and I made the bright decision to go to school 8 hours away. Since then I've moved 6 times in the last 2 1/2 years, 4 times alone my freshman year. And now I might move again because my landlord is going through a fucking divorce and didn't have the decency to tell me this little factoid when I moved in.
I hate moving with a fervor and everything associated with it. The last time I moved, I had $1500 worth of handbags stolen and a lamp broken. |
Lemme count, here.
1.) Southboro, MA 2.) Putnam, CT 3.) Worcester, MA (three-decker off Highland St.) 4.) Worcester, MA (Salisbury St.) 5.) Worcester, MA (George's) 6.) Worcester, MA (Apartment) 7.) Westfield, MA (Simmons Brook) 8.) Chicopee, MA (Apartment) 9.) Westfield, MA (current location) Nine. Wow. Thats more than I thought. O_O |
I've never moved. Been living here on Long Island for all 17 years of my existance, and to be totally honest, it sucks. There is nothing to do. At all. I can't wait to go to college and get the hell out of here.

Guess what? It doesn't get any better. There's never anything to do. That's why so many people in so many places have cable/satellite and the internet. End of discussion. |
My current apartment is location number 13. My parents got divorced when I was young, then my mom remarried and got divorced again. That led to a lot of moves growing up. And, now that I'm in college, I've moved a couple more times. I know the number will be going up over the next couple years, too.
|
I've moved 4 times in my life:
1. From down the street next to a supermarket in NFLD 2. from a townhouse in NFLD 3. our old home where I lived for over 20 years 4. our current residence |
I've lived in four different places now. From the time I was born until I turned four, I lived in a garage apartment. When I was four, we moved into the front house on that same piece of property. I went off to school and moved into an apartment on campus this september, but my family lived there until last week. We had to move out and now we're living in an apartment one city over.
|
I've lived in New York my entire life, and still do... and love it.
I was born in Queens, moved within Queens twice, then moved to Long Island. Lived there for 12 years, now live in the city. Although I love it, I don't want to live here for the rest of my life. I want to go to grad/med school in California. I basically want to live in a very cosmopolitan area for now then move to nature, and slowly move more and more into natural surroundings. All in all, 5 times. |
Ohh.. let's see. A lot of moving was done when I was a baby, though I'm gonna count a move as any place I spent more than a few months.
So born in San Francisco, CA, USA, then (1) moved to Brisbane, Australia. Then (2) over to Manila, Philippines. Then (3) back to Brisbane, Australia, I think. Then (4) back to San Francisco, CA. Then (osnap 5) east-coasted to Alexandria, VA. A few years then (6) finally a place in Fort Washington, MD. A few more years then (7) a bigger house in Fort Washington, MD. Then (8) a dorm in College Park, MD. Back home in Ft. Wash (9). Then another (10) dorm over at CP. Then back home again (11). Then finally (12) an apartment in CP for 2 years. Now back home again (13). So 13... And, now, with a rather inconvenient commute to work, I see another move again my near future. As well as any moves I may need for future schooling and/or relocations... but that's a way's away. |
I've moved around 4 times in the last 18 years.
Born in Dayton, Ohio, lived there for a year. Moved to Suffolk County, Long Island, where I lived for 7-8 years, had a good childhood there. Moved to Chesapeake, Virginia where I lived for about another 7-8 years and had an even better childhood there (for the first 4 or so years anyway). Moved to Tampa Bay, Florida around July 2005, where i've lived up till now, which sucked at first but wound up being much better at the start of '06. Yea it kind of gets to be a hassle, moving to a new area your senior year isn't fun either, but fresh starts are pretty nice...I don't really know how you 20+ movers must feel though. And Matt is dead on, for the most part. |
I have lived in the same house during all my life and I can say that it has become a part of me. Due to the messed up government of my country and their horrible "21th century's socialism" laws soon this home may not be a property of my family anymore, and that makes me very sad...
I cannot imagine myself moving (At least yet, eventually I'll have to move out to my own place, sure.) to another place, I feel way too attached to my memories here and the place itself. Can people that have moved many times feel attached to their homes like this too? Or do you guys just see your new place as a "long term hotel till' I move again" or something of the sort? (Yeah, it's a weird selection of terms, but I can't find a more "elegant" way to put it.) |
