Best Pizza to Eat?
Ok, last night, and today, I had lots of pizza! Yay for pizza!
It got to wanting to post a thread (Haven't posted one in a while), about what your favorite ordered pizza is. Personally, I order my stuff from Dominos... I find their think crust very good and besides that, I have a 50% off coupon. It really comes in handy for parties. What's you favorite delivery or pizza restaurant? Also, how do you usually like your crust? |

I love pizza from our local (I say local, it's more than 15 miles away) pizza take-out place. It has the best pizzas that I have ever tasted. My favourite would have to be either their meat feast pizza or their kebab pizza.
They always have the crust how I like a well, thick and soft. |
There's this place in Visalia called Howie and Sons that makes some of the best pizza in town. They have an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet every day and on weekends pizza is cheaper and they have indie rock bands playing. It's fucking awesome~
But the best pizza award around here goes to a local (at least I think it's local) franchise called Me 'N Ed's Pizzeria. They have these massive brick ovens to cook their pizzas in and so far as I've experienced ANYWHERE in this country it's the best pizza that I've ever eaten. |
The best pizza I've ever eaten is from a little dive outside of Pittsburgh called Vincent's Pizza Park. The absolutely enormous pies are filled to the brim with cheese and pounds of toppings. You really have to experience it to know why I love it so much, but my favorite part is the delicious, thick crust. So tasty. Hell, they ship their pizzas worldwide for anyone who is craving a Vinnie pie, so you can experience it. :)

I've eaten pizza on four continents and in thirteen countries, so I've had a fair bit of experience with regional variations and the like.
My favorite "widely available" pizza--i.e. one from an international chain--is Pizza Hut; I enjoy the way the deep-dish crust is cooked, so it's impregnated with grease and flavor, and their pepperoni is quite good. Domino's is a nice cheap alternative, but I don't like Papa John's--too sweet, and not greasy enough. My personal favorite brand is a local brand called Cottage Inn. They specialize in deep-dish square-cut pies, and coat the entire crust, both above and below the cheese, with sesame seeds. The toppings are put under the cheese, which allows the flavor to seep upward and downward as they're cooked, and the sauce is deliciously tangy. The best foreign pizza I've had was at the Vatican--thin-cut, with American-style pepperoni and huge (expensive) slices. Must have been blessed or something. Incidentally, actual Italian pizza isn't that good--they make the crust too thin (pita-thin) and don't slice the pies. |
If we're talking about places all over the US, I prefer Pizza Hut or UNO.
If we're talking about local, then a place called Nunzio's. They just know how to make pizza right, adding a little seasoning to the dough on the bottom making it literally an orgy to eat. |
I used to like Domino's pizza when I was little. I can hardly swallow it now; it just doesn't taste very good. The only other "widespread" chain I've dealt with is Papa Gino's, which I think is okay. On most days. Sometimes they make the pizza too soupy, and then I'm tempted to go up and ask for a ladle with my meal.
Like most people I've got much better local alternatives. Not long ago I got a couple really good hamburger and pepperoni pizzas from Florentina's, who I always thought of as more of a sloppy unappetizing restaraunt. It wasn't overly greasy and had a really good flavor. A couple other places I like are A1 pizza, which is pretty much your standard fare pie, and Roberto's, which has a thinner crust that's greasy more in the way of a shortbread cookie than a melted cheese bath, so it's not like biting into soggy dough. |
I always make my own pizza, based on one I had in Spain. Principally it consists of tuna, capers and cheese with rocksalt and some quality olive oil thrown into the mix.
|
When I order pizza, I'll generally order it from a statewide chain called Double Dave's. They proudly proclaim their specialty in crust, and how they hand-toss all of it. I don't really give the crust a second thought, though, even if it is what they trumpet. I'm more concerned about the toppings. But it's all good. So good, in fact, that I swore off Pizza Hut entirely, since it's comparatively crap.
This isn't to say that Double Dave's is the only place I'll get pizza. There is also a purely local chain (three locations, with another opening next year) called Candelari's. They specialize in their sausages, which really is the best in Houston as far as I'm concerned. One of these days I'll have to try all the varieties they offer. My only complaint is that they don't have a HUEG size, which Double Dave's does. |
Thanks to this whole Tombstone thing I've been craving pizza. :(
My family used to really like Papa John's, but my mother claimed to be tired of it after a while so we switched to Dominos. They're just okay. I always thought their crust was kind of "doughy", moreso than other places. I like Pizza Hut too but I rarely go there anymore. As for frozen pizzas, I enjoy Freschetta. Red Baron's alright too. My favorite type of pizza is plain pepperoni. :) |
Uno, the absolute greatest pizza on the planet.
http://www.travel-watch.com/images/pizza.jpg Delicious, thick, tomato-ridden pizza that almost made traveling 250 miles to pick up my brat of a sister all worthwhile. Runner up goes to a little place called JD's Pizza. I doubt there's too many of them around, but it's definetely the pizza we order up every Friday. They give you some very generous portions for under 20 bucks, and toss in a free bag of garlic rolls. |
Speaking of pizza chains and not local places (since that can't really lead to discussion, as such), Pier 49. I don't know just how wide-spread it is, but their gourmet pizzas are superb. (I actually just had some tonight!) They do sourdough crust, for starters. My favorite styles are the "Little Italy" (pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes (baked or fresh), green onions, and pepperoncinis on ranch sauce), "Lombard Street" (southwestern chicken in hickory bbq sauce, imported cheeses, red onions), and "Telegraph Hill" (cajun sauce, spicy chicken, mozzarella).

Sourdough crusts = <3 to the NTH degree. |
For franchised places I prefer Pizza Hut. You cant beat a meat lovers stuffed crust, and a basket of hot wings.
For local places I enjoy this hole in the wall places called Papa's, not to be confused with Papa John's. They had the best pizza and subs you could find anywhere, and for some reason whenever you bought one pizza you got another free. Cant beat that shit. Its also the only place anywhere with a pinball machine. Some serious nostalgia. |
Homemade pizza, can't beat it :)
Asides from that, I'd say Dominos, simply because I know people who work there and the last time I orderd a pizza (it was about a year ago >.<) it was from there. Plus they are pretty damn nice, especially with that garlic and herb dip they have. |
Chicken and Bacon pizza from dominoes is awesome. I rarely order pizza, but Dominoes is where I go when I do.
|
Am I the only one who thinks Domino's crust taste stale? Its chewy instead of crispy.
|
You certainly aren't. I gave up on Domino's a long time ago. They worked during the '80s, but now their cheese and crust tastes stale and artificial compared to the competition. I like my pizzas thick and filling. We switched to Pizza Hut's meat lovers for a time (the biggest complaint is that their pizzas were a bit TOO filling). Then we went the Papa John route for a while (not nearly as filling, but it tasted great especially with the garlic sauce). Then about a year ago we tried JD's, and have stuck with them since (thick, filling, delicious).
I'd still stick with Uno if I could, but the only nearby one for me is in Orlando, FL. So as a result it's become a sort of vacation tradition to stop there every time we travel. I guess the added nostalgia makes the pizza even tastier. |
Ive never heard of Uno, but judging from this thread I should of.

Highly recommended. Then again perhaps I'm just a big fan of chicago-style. Pizza Hut made a chicago-style pizza once (but never again, it seems). One time I ate the entire box all on my own. I still regret that to this day. :( |
Living on Long Island (NY) you an usually just drive a block or 2 from any given location and find some good pizza from some random place. The best, though is a new place called Caprio's in Franklin Square
|
Pizza Hut stuffed crust meat lovers is awesome, but because it is not only expensive pizza, but expensive delivery, I order Domino's all the time on regular crust with italian sausage and extra cheese. I also love Panago Pizza (Canadian chain). Very high quality toppings loaded on top, but also expensive. Little Caesar's is too expensive, and their toppings aren't even that good...they also seem to have a habit of burning my pizza every time.
I wish more places offered stuffed crusts. |
pizza hut is awesome, but for me here in my part of Canada, there's this little pizza joint down the road from me that makes the best/cheapest pizza around. for 14 bucks you get a 16 slice jumbo with 5 toppings, which kicks ass

Oh, I meant the double layer one, with cheese in the middle? I got muddled >.<
|
Uno's is pretty good, but it's so...gourmet, for lack of a better word. They have all these psycho combinations of flavors, and it's kinda hit-and-miss for me, and I haven't found anyone yet that's made recommendations that work for my taste.

Soldier knows his pizza.
If you want a great pan pizza, Uno's is the best! Bar none. |
Basicly I love pizza from just about anywhere...but the best I've had was a place in canada called "Pizza Pizza" way better pizza there then anywhere in buffalo.

Little Caesar's, Domino's, & Pizza Hut all have pretty damn different pizzas. I'll order from whichever I am in the mood for, however it tends to come down to some sort of rotation... Anyhow, Little Caesar's is easily the cheapest of the three, despite how good it is. As for frozen pizzas? Freschetta. I've tried Digiorno and all the others (had Tombstone waaaay back when I was a kiddo), but none seem to compare. Given, there are times when the ingredients on each Freschetta pizza are inconsistent or quite bad. Then there are times where the pizza comes out tasting way better than anything I've ever had from a restaurant. Strangely inconsistent. For pizza toppings, I only do Pepperoni. |

Pizza Pizza is the best pizza I've ever had. I was shocked when I found out that there's one over here. I thought they were limited to Ontario. |
I've never been to a non-mainstream pizzaria. Out of the mainstream ones, I have a fondness for Papa Johns. I like Pizza Hut second best, but Papa Johns takes the cake for mainstream pizzas in my eyes.
I haven't had any pizza outside the ones served from one of my University food places, so I've grown to love the ones they make. <3 Hawaiian Pizza (Ham, Pineapple, etc.) |

As a driver for Papa John's, I'd have to say they get my vote. I've worked for Dominoes too, so I got to taste my fair share of their stuff too. Dominoes is pretty good snacking pizza, but PJ's is definitely higher quality (and higher price).
|
I used to work for an independent pizza restaurant, and that was a great experience. Greatest pizza on earth. But if I have to go to a chain, I go to a Papa Johns when available, but mostly Pizza Hut, since they're more common where I live.
|
in the future, you'll say that pizza's not italian -.-.
|
Well, from a well-known chain... I love Papa Ginos. But I generally like most pizza from anywhere with the exception of Pizza Hut. Too much grease and I get sick every time I eat it.
Veggie pizza is for me and I LOVE thin crust. Not necessarily because it's better and has less calories, but I love the crunch. Just not a big fan of doughy crust. |
Over here Pizza Hut is the most popular, but my family prefer Shakey's Pizza, the cheese is definitely better than Pizza Hut...but lately their quality sorta dropped after Domino's bought them over.
After Shakey's I guess Domino's comes second, simply because we have a buy 1 free 1 card, but that expired sometime earlier so we ditched Domino's, they weren't really very good anyways. I've recently tried a local one, Marco's Pizza which had really nice Carbonara, the pizza's pretty good too, except their prices are really expensive. |
For me it would be Pizza Hut.. It's full of inovation too. You know, recently there's Sukiyaki Pizza! ^^
|
Since i live in Italy, and it's very cheap here, can you tell me the prices worldwide? I found pizzas in france VERY expensive. A sufficiently big pizza costs more than 10 euro in France. In Italy, there are some pizza's, where you pay 10,50 euro, and you can eat and drink coke and fanta as much as you want, and every kind of pizza they have! :)
|
I just made a pizza yesterday, home made is always best *yum*
But if I where to order it, it would have to be from the pizza place close to home call Donninis. It is just a small pizza joint but is very popular in the area. They even have pizza Fridays at the school where you can order it. Since I no longer eat red meat, I just make pizzas with chicken products, like chicken salami, its really good! But it does make ordering pizza harder because generically salami and pepperoni is made with beef at pizza places. So I just get bacon ham and chicken. Still good though. |
Domino's Philly Cheesesteak pizza is like heaven for me. Order me a large, and I'm good to go, I'll down it in one sitting.
|
I avoid all "chain" type places. They're overly greasy, have poor toppings and have a crust that usually runs from doughy to very doughy.
I perfer to get mine from making it at home or a local place. Theres a fantastic place right around the corner from my house called Paninos that has a pie called "Lite My Fire" thats smothered in hot cherry peppers and sweet sausage that is out of this world. I can eat a large by myself. |
There's a place in Vancouver called the Flying Wedge which is hands-down the best pizza I've ever had. It's basically ruined all other pizza for me, 'cause nothing else has a hope of measuring up. The best part of all, though, is that on Sundays it's all you can eat and drink for ten bucks.
|
I forgot Pizza Express! I went there once when I was about 14. I'm not sure if they do deliveries (though the name suggests it, it was a while back >.<), but when I ordered a mushroom pizza and got a full sized motherfucker on my plate I was shocked. Gorgeous pizza, but a bit too much for my appetite. (+ Live pianist ^_^)
|
Donato's pizza is the best hands down.
|
I'm not really much of a fan of the chain places at all, but I suppose the most tolerable of them is Pizza Hut. If only because I've had more exposure to PH than anywhere else.
However, as non-chain pizza goes, you cannot beat Chicago Motherfucking Pizza and Oven Grinder Company, located at 2121 N. Clark St. in Lincoln Park. Not so much a traditional pizza as a pizza-derived creation, they have what they call their pizza pot pie which will (mark my words) eventually conquer the world and convert all to cheesy goodness. For those of you who are familiar with Panera Bread's (and other places I'm sure) soup in a bread bowl, think "pizza in a crust bowl." They bake the crust into roughly the shape of a large mushroom and it contains the cheese and sauce. Your choice of veggie sauce or meat sauce, and white or wheat bread for the crust. Plus the most awesome goddamn mushrooms you ever tasted. On top of that, their appetizer, the Mediterranean Bread, once ended a fight with Chuck Norris in a stalemate. (insert "stale"mate/stale bread jokes here. Done yet? Good.) Huge plate of flatbread with kick-ass seasoning. However, if you want a traditional pizza pie, there's Joe's Pizzeria, one of the "hole in the wall" places we're so fond of, in the little town of |
http://www.Lomelis.com
Highly recommend it if you're ever in my area. It's the only cheese pizza around that doesn't make me sick (from the lactose intolerant-ness), but still tastes like heaven. |
Like Shorty, I couldn't stand pizzas with too much cheese.
I haven't really visited much of local pizza chains, and I'd usually rather have it delivered. I had had Dominos, Pizza Hut, Little Caesar's, and Papa John's. I break it down to like this... Dominos is cheaper, good thin crust. Average. Pizza Hut, great toppings, great sauce (as long as they didn't skimp on it) and awesome thin crust. Expensive, but it has deep dish and Lasgna pizza for a while. Good innovations. Papa John's is more expensive but has other stuff to add/mix toppings (they just have a great functionally in choosing your own pizza online). Finally, I love this one and wish more pizza places have online ordering. Their chicken is quite good, and their extra dips is worth getting cheese/garlic breadsticks for. Their sauce is okay, I prefer PH's. However, the cheese from PJ's is just a bit too much. Their thin crust isn't to die for really. |
There is this little pizza place down the road from me. It's family owned and they have the best pizza I have ever tasted. Their large is only a fourteen inch but it's a very delicious pie. Loads of sauce and tons of toppings. And the crust...
They have these flavored crust. Butter Cheese, Garlic Herb... Ranch. Only to name a few. They make one specifically for me because I'm such a great customer (I'll die young of a heart attack, I foresee it). They put the sauce on and then sprinkle their 'garlic herb' seasons on the sauce. They add to it by topping it with cheese, sausage, pepperoni, beef, and green peppers. They cook it at 505 degrees for roughly six minutes. When it comes time to boxing it up, they add garlic butter and Parmesan cheese to the crust. Simply the most to die for for pizza ever made. Of course, I usually pay fourteen bucks for one. I laugh at Dominoes and Pizza Hut. |
It's incredible how expensive pizzas are out of Italy ^^.
|
Dominos and cheese only plz.
|
http://www.greatplainspizza.com/main.html
I'm in culinary school right now because of this place. Always hits the spot - 6 different types of crust, tons of cheese, fresh beef and sausage and veggies - awesome all the way. |
I've only tried 3 kinds: Papa Johns, Pizza Hut, and Dominos. I used to like Papa Johns but thinking back the crust was really flat and soft. Pizza Hut is pretty good, but I think I'd have to choose Dominos.
|
To me, pizza is pizza.
I enjoy Pizza Pizza and Dominoes the most, but also like Boston Pizza. There's no specific reason why. They're tastier I guess. Little Caesar's tastes good, but it's not pizza that I can eat often. It's the sauce. I used to love Pizza Hut Pizza, but their pizza is too greasy. I feel like I'm eating bread soaked in vegetable oil or something. Gino's pizza and Windsor pizza are okay. That's about all I can think of. I do remember eating very good pizza in Michigan one time. I can't remember the name though. |
Dion's Pizza in Albuquerque, NM. Pizza with green chile... incredible.
|
LA POCHETTA!
I LOVE La Pochetta's pizzas. My fave is the Pineapple (Even tho I pick the pineapple off lol) And the Cappociosa (sp?) where I pick the olives off. Yup Im picky :D
Josie xox |
Is it just me or am I the only person who has an UNO within walking distance from my house?
<.< But with my area, i'm not limited to the choice of pizza chains I have. Dominoes is a 5 minute drive. Pizza Hut, one is a 10 minute drive, the other is 20 minutes. Papa John's is a 10 minute drive... And I have three local pizza places. I think my place is loaded with pizza... |
There are five non-chain pizza shops on one street, all within three blocks near my house. Pretty pizza crazy.
|
Wow... of all the chain-pizza places, NO ONE mentioned California Pizza Kitchen or Red Brick Pizza, which DEFINATELY tops Dominos, Papa Johns, Little Ceaser and Pizza hut in chain-pizza stores. I can't beleive people actually like Pizza hut - I actually don't like pizza that much anymore because of pizza hut.
Non-chain stores, of course, have the best pizza, because they are usually made with their own secret recipes and family traditions and what nots. |
I hated California Pizza Kitchen. That's probably why people don't mention it. It sucks.
|
California Pizza Kitchen is too expensive for what they come up with. Sure, some of the combos are interesting, but they're not fantastic, to say the least. A better alternative to CPK would be "Extreme Pizza"; or maybe it was "Xtreme Pizza". Lame name, but it's like CPK with the interesting topping concept, except you actually feel like you are eating food that may sustain you.
|
The best pizza I have had was from a small store in Ghent (Belgium) fresh packed from SPAR (the name of the store), It was called quatro staggioni.
The pastery was prebaked on a brick-oven, so the taste of the crust was unbelievable, it was good spicy and tasted just Italian: Basil, oregano. The tomato paste tasted like italian sun tomato's very sweet. There were 2 kinds of sausages on it: Chorizo (originally spanish spicy sausage but also popular in Italy) and italian ham that was more salty perfect combination. There were also mushrooms and artitjokes(green vegetable you can eat it raw too) on it and garlic. For me to be satisfied with a pizza is very difficult but this one was perfect! |
I don't enjoy those "fast food" pizzas (Dominos, Little Ceasers). I prefer local pizza, it is made fresh. The best is brick oven pizza, not the metal ovens that pizza places usually have. My favorites are: pinapple and ham (Hawaiin pizza) and if it is brick oven pizza, it has got to be smoked mozzerlla and bacon! I swear that is SO freaking heavy, 2 pieces can fill me up BIG TIME!
|
Round Table Pizza for me I love to have my pizza with bacon and pepperoni "mmmmmm bacon and pepperoni pizza *homer drool*"
|
i used to hate Domino's, now i love their pepperoni & green pepper thin crust pizza. it's not as filling as the other types of crust, simply because there's not as must dough. yummy! :P
|
I don't understand the Pizza Hut love. Maybe they have good variants I haven't tried, but their regular pizza is horrible. It just doesn't taste good at all; it actually kind of makes me sick. Very "Americanized." I don't consider Papa John's or Domino's good pizza, but I'd take them over Pizza Hut any day.
I did like one of Pizza Hut's limited time promotions they had several years ago, though. I think it was called the Insider...either that, or the Thin N' Crispy. I get my pepperoni pizza from a local place called Ray's NY Style Pizza. I don't know of any good chains around here, so I can't offer much to the discussion. EDIT: Whoa, I ventured out of the game music forums. What's going on?!? |

I'm glad that I live in a part of the world where there are pizza and chinese returants on almost every street corner and "Pizza Slut" is nowhere to be found. |

When Pizza Hut opens up a franchise in countries like these, it's a brand new taste to them and probably the only one they know. Besides, Pizza Huts abroad tend to taste much better than the ones in the states. It's like they took the name, and all the advertising material but decided that "Pizza Hut" means "Pizza with sauce" and makes them the way they please. |
I got this place called Brugos-Take and Bake. That place is awesome. You can choose to take it home and cook it, or have them cook it. I know everyone who works there, so I get free stuff.
|
Considering that I'm a driver for Pizza Hut, I'd have to say I'm pretty biased. >>;
Back when I lived near Tampa, FL, though, there was a local chain about 10 minutes away from me called Babe's Pizza. My dear GOD was it delicious. Some of the best pizza I've had in my life. |
The quality of frozen pizza is starting to get a lot better. I love digiorno's pizza a helluva a lot more than I like Pizza hut. More flavourful and less expensive. However, I think most pizza is good.
|
I love Dominio's pizza as a whole, especially their sausage pizza...but I love stuffed crust pizza from Pizza Hut. But there's this place on the north side of Chicago called John's...they give you so meat on your pizza, plus with yellow peppers...I'm in heaven there!
|
Personally, I love Pizza Hotline pizza. Nice and affordable, and there is a place right down the street from me, so I always get the pizza fast and 90% of the time its hot. I tend to always get Pepperoni and Mushroom. Tasty and enjoyable.
|
My Favorite would be Dominos , Since the pizza isn't greesy to me And the Brooklyn Style Pizza is my favorite! I even love their Cinnonsticks (sp?)
|
i like Pizza Hut... haven't seen any small chains here so all we get are the big guys
Meat Lover's....... mmmmmmmm..... |
Personally I like Pizza Pizza, their crust just works for me. I find Pizza Hut's is too oily, Domino's is okay and I've had bad experiences with Gino's. (We have a $5Cdn Medium Pepperoni/Cheese Pizza deal, but the guy makes it so horribly that the toppings slide off your pizza and basically unless you're supporting the pizza, it'll just slosh around everywhere.)
I know people say the crust is only the handle for the pizza, but I just love it. |
all pizzas are great best. The buy-one-get-one-free is the best! Flavour doesnt matter. Price does :p
|
Well, I don't even know the pizza delivery's name (but its phone number by heart), and when I meet up with friend to play Warhawk, we always order a pizza with fresh tomates, mozzarella and garlic. I used to order this pizza without garlic in the past, but since the one time where I tried it with garlic, I can't imagine my favourite pizza without. Basil is optional.
|
Lately I've taken a liking to Papa Johns' grilled chicken club pizza. The fresh tomato slices have a lot more flavor than I expected, and I think the chicken tastes a lot better than pizza sausage usually does.
|
I have come to realize that Garbonzo's pizza in Winnipeg is absolutely delicious when drunk or high. That is all I am ordering when in either of those situations.
Dominos is still on my list however. |
