TV on DVD Discussion
I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I'm freaking addicted to collecting TV shows on DVD. TV DVDs are the pride of my DVD collection, and the part of it I'm most proud of.
So I want to know who else likes collecting TV DVDs. Feel free to discuss how big your collection is, what titles you have, what titles you want to get, titles you want to see released, just everything about TV on DVD. But no lists. Don't just come in here and post your collection and leave. If you post your collection, tell us facts about it like how long did it take you to acquire it, and how has it cost you so far. And if you want to talk about an addition to your collection, make sure to tell us why you chose that title, and other stuff like that. Simple listing posts will not be tolerated. I'll start off by posting my collection: 24 Seasons 1-4 The 4400 Season 1 Aqua Teen Hunger Force Volume 1 Chappelle's Show Season 1 and 2 Uncensored Curb Your Enthusiasm Seasons 1-4 ER Seasons 1-4 Firefly: The Complete Series La Femme Nikita Season 1 NewsRadio Seasons 1 & 2 Rescue Me Season 1 Smallville Seasons 1-3 South Park Seasons 1-3 Titus Seasons 1-3 The first show I ever bought on DVD was Chappelle's Show season 1, and that was about two years ago. At first I didn't think much of it, but then I saw saw how great it was to own an entire season of a show. So after that, I slowly started building up my collection with another show I liked, 24. After that though, I started going full blown, getting shows I liked, shows I had only half seen (like Titus and Aqua Teen), and shows that I had never seen before. This last part turned out to be the biggest part of my collection, as hadn't seen about half the shows in it before purchasing them (like ER and Smallville). All in all, I've spent nearly $1000 on my collection. My favorite show in there is 24. The best TV show ever is made even better with a slew of extras, including commentary tracks, deleted scenes, and behind the scenes featurettes (except on season 1, unfortunately). But the best TV show in there that I hadn't seen prior to DVD is ER. I was totally addicted to this show when I started watching it, and wound up watching all four seasons (91 episodes) in less than two months. |
I have TV seasons on DVD:
1)The X-Files 1-9 2)24 1-5 3)The Pretender 1-4 4)Millennium 1-3 5)Dark Angel 1 and 2 6)Unsolved Mysteries - UFOs, Ghosts, Murders, Legends I like having the shows on DVD, but most of the time it takes me a long, long time to get through a season. Hour long shows have between 20 and 25 episodes. That's 15 to 19 hours worth of show. That's a long time to sit in one spot. I always tell myself that I can get most of a season done in a weekend, but most of the time I don't follow through. The only show that I got done fast (a few days) was 24. That's because the show is so fast pace. I should be able to finish the other shows in a week, but it usually takes me months. I'm going to try to finish up the second season of Dark Angel. I have 14 more episodes left. xman25 |
Normally, I'm not very interested in shows on DVD.
The latest 24 seasons are great because they actually take advantage of DVD, such as anamorphic video and 5.1 sound, but most of everything else is just ugly 4:3 stuff with Pro-Logic sound. |
I have the 3rd and 4th Season of The Sopranos on DVD. I was going to get the rest of them untill I found out how fucking expensive they are. I eventually will get them all but I will have to wait for sales.
Oh and I also have the first season of TILT on dvd which will be the only season of that since ESPN stop making it. |

As for me, I've got several: The X-Files 1 - 7 Buffy 1 - 3 Firefly Sealab 2021 vol 1 and 2 Aqua Teens vol 1 - 3 Home Movies seasons 1 - 3 Mission Hill Family Guy vol 1 I plan on buying seasons 1 through 5 of CSI pretty soon as well. I really like my X-Files DVDs. The show is great, at least until season 7, which only has a handful of really good episodes. The DVD boxes are pretty cool too; they display well and look nice. I don't plan on buying seasons 8 or 9 because the quality of the show was pretty lacking by the end of season 7. It took me from October through the final week of December to accumulate and watch the seven seasons of this show. I really like my Home Movies DVDs as well. Great little show. They also sport some pretty good commentaries and special features. I stopped at season 3 of Buffy because that's when I stopped enjoying the show. End of season 3 would have been a good way to end the series, had they gone that route. |
Although I don't have any TV DVDs, which is partly due to a lack of money, I would love to get Family Guy and Scrubs. My friend has them on DVD though, so then I don't have to spend my money.
I will however, be buying Doctor Who Season 1 (2005) on DVD tomorrow. Finally, I have the money to buy that. |
I own Star Trek DS9 on DVD and my brother owns Family Guy and Futurama. I have about 15 more TV shows on my computer from downloads. Mostly Sci Fi's and some sitcoms.
|
Arrested Development seasons 1 and 2. It took be about sixty bucks to realize this show isn't all that funny.
Chappelle's Show seasons 1 and 2. Strangely I find uncensored profanity to be less funny than when it's censored. I guess it isn't so in-your-face. Alias Season 1 and 2. I used to want the other seasons of Alias, but I heard they suck, so I'm glad I haven't wasted $50-60 bucks on them. I mean to collect all of the Fullmetal Alchemist and Samurai Champloo DVDs. Unfortunately Best Buy wants you to pay $30 for four episodes. That shit gets expensive quick. |
Man, I love TV shows shoved into DVD box sets. I don't even buy movies on DVD anymore, because for whatever reason, I can't stand to watch the vast majority of movies say, more than two times. But TV shows, I'll be like, yeah, let me eat this shit up! Over and over! TASTES GOOD.
I've got uh, all four seasons of Futurama, which is rad, because they never even bothered to show past season one on TV here. It's SO CRISP. Then there's Family Guy, season 1-3. Another show that was taken off the air after the first season. To be honest, it's a piss poor effort though. The quality is shit and there's squat in terms of bonus features. That and I hear season 1 and 2 were bundled together in America. NOT HERE. Uuuuhh, I'm up to season 9 with M*A*S*H. Probably another four hundred years before they release the final sets. I adore the show, it may have gotten the bare bones treatment for DVD, but the box sets are ultra cheap. So yeah. Hey. Words. Bought season 1 of Lost. That's nice. I've also got a bunch of random Tom Green Show DVDs, as well as the obscure DVD releases of Super Mario Brothers 3 and Super Mario World cartoons. I also bought and treasure the Rove '99 DVD, an Australian talkshow/skit thing that used to be extremely entertaining, and most of it is crammed into the two discs. Outstanding! |
You guys ready to get jealous?
Batman the Animated Series Adventures of Pete and Pete (Volumes 1 and 2) Eerie Indiana (the complete series) I'm waiting for Pete and Pete season 3, and I'd love for them to release Doug and Salute your Shorts. Michael "Donkey Lips" Bower is my myspace buddy and I'm constantly asking him when they're going to release SYS, but he hasn't heard anything yet. Also, I'd love for them to release the Wonder Years. That show rocks. I love the whole idea of tv on dvd. It's how I got hooked on Smallville, Lost, and Arrested Dev. I'll blow through a whole season in a weekend. The show that I finished most recently was Freaks and Geeks the complete series. Good tv. |
I actually watch more TV shows on DVD than movies. I don't buy a lot of movies on DVD, anyway; most of them are good for a one-time two-hour thrill or for showing off your home theater, and then they'll sit on the shelf for the rest of eternity. Granted that there are some flicks that I could watch over and over again, but they're very few.
I got the first seasons of Lost and House, the first two volumes of Family Guy, the first three seasons of MacGyver, all four seasons of Futurama and all five of Babylon 5. I wanted to buy the Babylon 5 movie set but the two B5 movies I've seen were pretty awful. I'm still waiting for a complete Daria set. And Rocko's Modern Life. WHERE ARE THEY. |
The only problem with TV shows on DVD is that, on average, they cost $1,233,876.87 more than a simple movie DVD. As a result, the number that we poor people can get legitimately are severely limited.
For example, I have just two: Futurama and Firefly. I've been meaning to get the early (good) Simpsons seasons, but the ca$h simply isn't there. I find myself watching my canned shows more often than I turn on the TV to catch a specific program (which is essentially never). The best part about these DVD sets is that they are insurance against the time when your favorite shows go off the air. And, as expensive as they are, they're cheaper than buying a VHS set; I remember the VHS Star Trek The Next Generation being priced 24.95 per VHS back in the day, but now you can get the whole shebang for only $300/season. |

Watching tv series on on DVD in one go, without having the annoyance of commercials and having to wait for a week to see the next episode....is probably why I'm so addicted to it! Plus a lot of tv series are just so unbelievably good! I have these: Buffy The Vampire Slayer Seasons 1 to 7 My most priced possesions! ^_^ Buffy is just the pinnacle of good writing and great acting! (maybe not season 1, but it's still a fun season) Six Feet Under Seasons 1 to 4 Probably my most favorite drama series. I also love the fact that it's a rather controversial show...at least, by American standards! Angel Seasons 1 to 5 Another fantastic Joss Whedon show, which is almost as good as Buffy. Xena Warrior Princess Seasons 2 & 3 Lucy Lawless and Rennee O'Connor really made this show worth watching. (and don't forget Hudson Leick/Callisto, Bruce Campbell/Autolycus, Kevin Smith/Ares, Ted Raimi/Joxer etc) Has some very so and so moments (mainly season 1), but also has a few of the best tv moments ever! (the musical, the end of season 5, "A Day In The Life", the China episode's from season 3) I really need to get seasons 4, 5 & 6 on DVD soon. (I have them on VHS at the moment) X-Files Seasons 1 to 7 Sci-Fi at it's best! David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Chris Carter & Mark Snow....is just a match made in heaven! :p Alias Seasons 1 to 4 Love the characters, love the action, love the music. Really a show that came out of nowhere for me....and got hooked on it the moment I saw the pilot! 24 Seasons 1 to 4 Such an exciting series.....really "edge of the seat" stuff. Plus Kiefer just rocks!! The Simpsons Seasons 1,2,3,4,6 Funniest American cartoon series ever made (although recently the Simpsons isn't what it used to be). Still need to get Season 5 & 7 soon though! My other fave shows, which I also own: Desperate Housewives, Lost, Futurama, Twin Peaks, Batman The Animated Series, Smallville etc etc Quote:
If you love the characters, the drama, the action & music...then you'll love 3 & 4 too! |
I only have one show on DVD and thats the NBC sitcom(which was canned, sadly) Father of the Pride.
I actually won it in a contest right after I had it put away at Wal-Mart. I'd like to get Family Guy and Justice League but I don't really see that happening in the near future. |

I have purchased some TV shows on DVD. Let's see ... here's everything I got as of now: Batman The Animated Series (Volumes 1-4): This was a no-brainer purchase. For so many years, I was dying for a boxset treatment for my all-time favourite animated TV series, and they finally did it in 2004. I now have all four volumes. I will also be getting the Season 1 boxsets for both Justice League and Batman Beyond, when they come out on March 21st. Buffy The Vampire Slayer (Seasons 1-7): I know how big a fan Tappy is of this show. I actually never watched it, but when I saw the entire monster boxset with all seven season packed in The Chosen Collection, I jumped at the chance to own it. I also got a sweet 25% off the original boxet price, which itself was a steal considering how much the individual season boxsets are going for these days. Dark Angel (Seasons 1-2): I like Jessica Alba. Seriously, though -- I enjoyed the series while it aired from 2000-2002. I know some people didn't. The tone and feel (and Jessica) of the series just appealed to me. Family Guy (Volume 1): I started watching Family Guy less than a year ago, when it was brought back. I downloaded the latest episodes, thanks to the the video request thread for Family Guy here on GFF (the thread lives on, by the way). And when I saw a special deal on Volume 1, which contains Seasons 1 and 2, I bought it without hesitation. Lois and Clark - The New Adventures of Superman (Seasons 1-2): I remember being an avid fan of this series, which was really more about the relationship between Lois and Clark than it was about the man in the red cape. Granted, the scripts in the later seasons got kind of weird at times, it was still a great series overall. Season 3 comes out June 20th. MacGyver (Seasons 1-4): I used to love this show when I was a little kid. It used to be a family gathering every week, to see what kind of adventure MacGyver would get in. I think the series had a major impact on me, as it encouraged me to use my head and wits to solve problems, instead of resorting to guns and violence. MacGyver was one of those good, stand-up protagonists. Even though the DVD boxsets have ZERO extras, I'm still happy to purchase them just for the episodes. Season 5 comes out on March 14th. Season 6 on June 13th. Smallville (Seasons 1-4): I never watched it on TV, but I heard many good things about it. So I went ahead and bought everything last summer. I've plowed through the series, and I'm now on Season 3. I remember when I bought them, Tappy was telling me about how the Clark-Lana thing got old fast -- you were right, man. But beyond that, the series is great. Street Ball - The AND1 Mix Tape Tour (Seasons 1-2): Basketball is my life. I have all the AND1 Mixtapes, and jumped at the opportunity to own the ESPN Street Ball TV series. I love the flair and creativity some of these ballers have: Hot Sauce, Skip, AO, Alimoe, The Professor, etc. I don't care much for the dunks -- as I've seen better from the NBA -- but I can't get enough of the mad handle and dribbling tricks. Superman The Animated Series (Volumes 1-2): I obviously like Batman TAS a lot more, but I still enjoy Superman very much. I like comparing the two series, with Superman being so bright and clean, while Batman being so dark and gritty. 24 (Season 1): Another series I never watched on TV but heard many good things about. I bought Season 1 because it was on sale. I haven't had the time to watch it, though. Can't wait. |

I hope that's not the case though, I was planning on getting this series sometime down the line. Now, it's not so appealing if I can't get the entire series. But I guess something is better than nothing. |
TV on DVD is the only way for me to watch TV shows.
No fucking commercials. No fucking german dub. Plus, there's not much of a chance a show like The Wire is ever going to run on german TV. Have: Several seasons of CSI, too little of Babylon 5, all of Dark Angel, some Simpsons, first season The Wire... Need: Complete Babylon 5. And the Wire. And get those sexy BSG 2004/5/6 boxes. |
Quote:
Plus I still need to get the Superman Animated Series also. Your post also reminds me of the fact that Lois & Clark Season 1 got released in region 2 DVD recently, so I'll probably get that real soon! (let's hope the rest of the seasons will be released here too......soon!) |

Any word on the release of Animaniacs and Pinky & The Brain? |

(I'll keep you posted!!;)) EDIT: The rumour on the net is that the Animaniacs and Pinky & The Brain DVD boxes are scheduled to be released in July. |

I really, really like having TV shows on DVD, but when I start collecting, I want to have all of a show. And, for most shows, that means lots of money. So I'm not where I want to be with my sets.
Gilmore Girls 1-4 - We only really started watching at the beginning of season three, so we needed the first two to catch up on it. I will get season five the next time I see it for sale for under $30 (Target seems to run those on WB shows every once in a while). Dawson's Creek 1-5 - Same sort of thing, we needed to get caught up from the beginning and it was one of our favorite shows. It's been a long time since they released another season. Lost 1 - I watched every episode live, but I wanted this for two reasons. I wanted to pick up the clues I missed and because I wanted my fiancee to see it so she'd start watching it with me. I'll keep up on this one as long as they keep the prices reasonable. Family Guy 1-3 - Fantastic show, but I don't know if I'll get any more past this. I'm just all Family Guyed out. The Critic 1-2 - I loved this show and they really only were playing it at like 4 am on Comedy Central, so I wanted to make sure I had it. Scrubs 1-2 - The best sitcom on TV in the last 10 or 20 years in my opinion. A definite must own. It's very easy to watch these over and over and over. Grey's Anatomy 1 - I didn't see a single episode of the first season, but I've caught most of the second and I absolutely love it. Wanted to see how good it was in its first year. That's all I have right now. I really want to get House. I love 24 like a lot of you, but I just can't see watching them again since the main draw is in the surprises. I also want to get all of MacGyver. |
I don't personally have tv show DVDs but my mom has American Choppers Seasons 1 & 3 (the store didn't have season 2), my sister has all 3 volumes of Family Guy. I want to get the Lone Gunmen DVD Box set for myself and get all 9 Season box sets of X-Files.

I feel that I some shows don't need to be watched again. Shows like 24 that focus on suspense can't really be watched with the same enthusiasm the second time around. That being said, I love the Samurai Jack DVDs. It gives me a chance to not only see extra features, but to see the episodes I missed.
|
My X-Files collection is complete. I bought Season Four today for $30.
xman25 |
My collection is extremely meek with only Invader Zim (Volumes 1-3) being the only TV shows I have on DVD. I have too little money (and too much of a high speed connection to got to waste:) ) to worry myself about spending more than $20 on a DVD.

Oh boy, lemmie look....
*Stargate SG-1 Seasons 1-8 Stargate Atlantis Season 1 plus Rising dvd Planet of the Apes tv Series *Futurama Volume 1-4 *Band of Brothers Space: Above and Beyond Cowboy Bebop 1- 6 plus movie Trigun Series Supermand Animated Volume 1-2 Batman Beyond Movie Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker Transformers Seasons 1-2 plus movie Ghost in the Shell: SAC First Gig(all) Gargoyles Volumes 1-2 *Star Trek: DS9 Seasons 1-7 Star Trek: Voyager Seasons 1-7 Star Trek: Enterprise Seasons 1-4 Starship Troopers: Roughneck Chronicles Complete Campaigns The Man Show Seasons 1-3 Alias Seasons 1-4 *Dark Angel Seasons 1-2 Clerks: The Animated Series *The Lone Gunmen Complete Series X-Men The Animated Series *Battlestar Galactic old and Seasons 1 and 2.0 of new GI Joe Season 1 Dilbert Complete Series Sealab 2021 Volumes 1-2 *Firefly WWII In Color (and some other H-Channel dvds) ...and that's all I can think of at the moment.... Yeah, pretty much all I do is work, school, games, dvds. TV on dvd is the greatest damn thing. No commercials, no stupid watermarks, and rewind/pause/zoom. Oh yeah. I would have never seen Firefly (scary thought!) or Dark Angel if not for tv on dvd. Although it can be very dangerous...I once watch 49.5 hours of Star Trek: Voyager in one week. No shit. Double Post:....oh FINE. Guess I should read and not skim the opening post. heheheh. Bolded/star ones are my favorites. |
Could you tell us a little more about your collection (like your favorites, etc.), as I mentioned in the first post that there should be more than just a list.
|
All of Deep Space 9, Voyager and Enterprise but no Picard. What's wrong with you.

Did anyone pick up Sleeper Cell this week? I heard this show is supposed to be good (some people even say better than 24, but I doubt that), and I was actually considering getting it. The only reason I didn't is because I don't have any cash at the moment. Even when I do get some money though, is this worth picking up now, especially over other releases that are coming out soon that I wanna get (mainly Robot Chicken season 1, Over There, Mind of Mencia saeson 1 Uncensored, and the recently released Newsradio season 3), or should I wait for a sale or a price drop?
|
I finished watching the second season of Dark Angel today. I should have finished it about two weeks ago. Now I'm going to watch the second season of The Pretender.
xman25 |
I only bought the T.V series of "Wonderfalls".
It's great, it's about a girl suddenly hearing puppets talking to her. It's very funny. ... I'm hoping to record more though with my new DVD recorder.:edgarrock: |
I purchased MacGyver Season 5 the other day.
Once again, ZERO extras. Oh well. Batman Beyond and Justice League come out on Tuesday. I am ready. |
I like to have TV shows on DVDs but as they are a lot more expensive than movies I try to control myself.
My originals are: Band of Brother, I could not see it on TV because I did not have HBO, so when I had a bit more of money left I decided to buy it (I trust Spilberg) Friends Season 1, I though I would end up buying all of it, but once again I realised it would be too expensive. My Copies: Friends Season 2 24 Season 1, my favorite show by far, when I get the chance I'll copy the other season, If I start working in the proccess, I'll buy originals. |
Yes, purchasing TV shows on DVDs is an expensive practice.
I find that a sometimes a little patience goes a long way in terms collecting boxsets for an entire TV series. You can often find great deals if you wait a little while, and look for deals and sales especially at around the holiday seasons. Also, TV shows are always released season by season. But sometimes in the end, they'll release a massive boxset that has everything bundled in it. Or they'll package several seasons together at a reasonable price. Take Buffy The Vampire Slayer for instance. I bought The Chose Collection with all seven seasons in it. That massive boxset by itself was steal, and I even got a 25% off that price. I paid $176.99 (Canadian) for it, before taxes. I'm waiting patiently for great series like The X-Files and The Simpsons to be possibly released as a massive collection. Sometimes, even just looking around, you'd get nice deals. I bought Season 1 of 24 for $29.99 Canadian, which is pretty good. I keep my eyes open for stuff like that. But then again, sometimes you just don't want to wait that long to watch your favourite shows. No way in hell am I waiting for Batman TAS boxsets to be bundled together at a reasonable price. I bought them right away at the initial release of each volume. |
The only TV I have on DVD is Bucky O'Hare - The Complete Series. Mind you, even that's a bootleg because it's only out in the wrong damn region. I have been thinking about starting to buy the South Park series though. Really, I'm just too cheap for TV box sets.

I usually don't buy TV on DVD sets, but I've made the following exceptions:
Chappelle's Show Season 2 This show was just great. I also missed about half the episodes, so I figured why the hell not. Plus the Rick James episode was a classic. Band of Brothers Now normally I would have never purchased this. Not sure why, but I decided to download one of the episodes via torrent (Carentan). I was astounded by the episode, and decided to buy them. Only problem is that the Box set is actually a Tin, and runs around $100. I put off buying it for a year, in the meantime I had downloaded all the episodes. Though I STILL bought this because it was just that great. Arrested Development Season 2 I thought this show as funny, and witty. I sucked hearing that Fox had cancelled the show, so I figured I should get the box sets. My secret santa actually gave me season 1, and I decided to buy season 2 on my own. And to summarize, I rarely buy these things, and Band of Brothers is my favorite series of all time. |
Off the top of my head, here is what I have in my DVD stash...
-Batman The Animated Series Volumes 1-4 -The X-Files Season 1-9 -Seinfeld Seasons 1-6 -House Season 1 Glad these were put on DVD, I never have much time to catch them on the tube at air dates. :) |
My list is rather small:
Smallville || seasons 1-4 I started watching this show on the first episode of season 2. Since then I have been hooked. I really think the writers of this show have done an excellent job at portraying Clark Kent, and his world, during his teenage/young adult years. The Shield || seasons 1-4 This show just kicks fucking ass. It's gritty, it's raw and NEVER holds back. This one puts all other cop shows to shame. Period! LOST || season 1 Season 1 of LOST kept me addicted each and every week so I had to buy it upon release. Unfortunately, I can't say the same thing for season 2 up to this point. It just hasn't been as compelling or interesting. I'll probably still pick it up when it comes out but this show mostly liking seen it's peak. I'm thinking about picking up all 4 seasons of 24 now. I just started watching it at the start of the current season and I am really enjoying it. So many people have been telling me to tune in but I just never did. I really enjoy the real-time aspect of it. Keifer Sutherland is doing one hell of a job as Jack Bauer. I may have to wait on buying this set though. I would also like to pick up whichever seasons of In Loving Color have come out. I used to love that show. Guys like Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx and the Wayans Bros. got their start there so I'd love to relive it. |
24 Season 1 - I watched most of this when it was first on TV. I thought that it was about time i watched the rest of it, and also it was fairly cheap.
Alias Season 1 - I got this becasue i missed it when it was on TV and i really liked the look of it. Dark Angel Season 1 - Sci- fi, Jessica Alba. I'll say no more Futurama Season 2 + 3 - This show is the best, really funny even after several watches. Firefly - A friend got me into this, otherwise i would never have known about it. Fantastic. Lost Season 1 - I watched just about every episode on TV, but the '118' guys got too much for me in the end. No more ad-breaks :) |
Invader Zim (Volumes 1 - 3)
One of the edgiest cartoon's I've ever seen. It may come off as "goth", but I couldn't care less (even if I think the "goth scene" is retarded). I enjoy it and think it's funny, end of story. Firefly Oh Nathan Fillion, you are thespian of unparalleled talent. <3 Home Movies (Seasons 1 - 3) Brendon Small rocks the guitar like none other. Might I also add that Starboy & The Captain of Outer Space are the bestest heroes of all time? Battlestar Galactica (Season 1 USA release) This is the version that came packed with the s1 episodes and the miniseries. Even if the show goes a little overboard at times it's still highly watchable. From the first minutes of 33 to the last seconds of Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II I love every moment. 24 (Season 1 & 3) I liked the show when it wasn't all a bunch of overdone cliche nonsense. |

Once they reach the end, you don't think there's a chance they'll be releasing the whole thing in one giant set? If not, I'm considering just buying these new releases, as the prices of the old boxsets were way out of my comfort zone. |
Actually, they're up to season 6 now, with seasons 7-9 coming out on June 6th. I wish once they did reach the end they would release one giant set, but because these are so much cheaper I doubt they will. Unless they make the set a bundle of all the thinpak releases for the same price as they are now, I just don't see it happening.
But then again, they are releasing new Buffy thinpak sets, even after they already made the Chosen Collection. So I guess The X-Files taking the opposite route, releasing the thinpaks first and then a complete collection, wouldn't be too farfetched. But even if they don't release one, I'll probably still wind up getting these thinpaks. |
I like to get good TV SHOWS on DVD since, some of the times, there quite cheap for how many hours of material you get. :edgartpg:
- 100 LIMITES, Best Of A French Canadian TV Show featuring one of the funniest group of humorists around. - Chick 'N Swell - Season 1 & 2 Another French Canadian TV Show. This one features low-budget sketches with some really far-out, absurd humor. Clerks - The Animated Series This IS the kind of show that should've replaced Family Guy. - Curb Your Enthusiasm - Season 1 & 2 I never, EVER get tired of this show! Hope to get the following seasons soon! - Family Guy Volume - 1 & 2 Was a fan when it came out, but now, it just became repetitive and boring. Still a few laughs on the first few episodes. - Futurama - Volume 1, 2, 3 & 4 One of the most underrated animation show ever! I can't believe it got cancelled. If you watch animated shows that are on TV right now, apart from King of The Hill, this show has the best writing. - George Carlin's BACK IN TOWN & YOU'RE ALL DISEASED! Well, those were produced for HBO, so, I'll list them as a TV show. What more can I say that hasn't been said about George Carlin? - Kenny VS Spenny - Season 1 My god! I started watching that show last winter and I became hooked! For those who never heard of it, it's a reality show where two best friends do random competitions to prove who's the best. Those competitions range from childish "First one to talk loses!" to degrading "Who's the better Women?". The Loser is punished by a Humiliation. - Message à Caractère Informatif This is an obsure French TV Show from Europe. Two guys take various tapes from the 70s and 80s that were used to document employees on different companies and they re-dubbed the whole thing. It's quite hilarious. - ReBoot: My Two Bob's - Daemon Rising Fan of the show since I was 8. - Ren & Stimpy - Season 1 & 2 Love the animation, design and weirdness of that show. - Rock et Belles Oreilles - Years 1989-1990 & Years 1994-1995 One of the most influencial Comedy Groups in Quebec, kinda-like Monthy Python a bit. - SNL: Best of Will Ferrel - Volume 1 I love that guy! - The Simpsons - Season 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7 The best show on TV!...except after Season 10 - South Park - Season 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 THE Best show on TV right now, they just keep getting better and better! - Spaced - The Complete Collection I hate sitcoms, but THIS. This my friend is one of the best thing to ever graced TV. A British sitcom by the same band who did 'SHAUN OF THE DEAD' and the coming soon 'HOT FUZZ'. Genius at his peak! - SPAWN - The Complete Series ....love that series. Wish they had continued. |

Yeah, but for $40 each, it's still cheaper to get the Chosen Collection. But since that was only supposed to be a limited edition, I guess they felt the need to offer something cheaper than the original sets while being easier to find than the Chosen Collection.

Will the new thinpaks include new/extra content that wasn't in the original boxsets? |

I read about the X-Files thinpaks being stripped of the extras disc. But considering how much I'd be saving, I don't really mind.
As for Buffy, I guess there is no reason for me to buy the thinpaks. |
I finally went ahead and bought Sleeper Cell yesterday (even with its outrageous "Better than 24" quote on the box). I was considering either this or The L Word season 1 (based on recommendations from a friend), but ultimately decided on this due to its cheaper price. I haven't watched it yet, but it looked good when I skimmed through the first episode.
Also of note is that this is my first purchase of a DVD from Showtime. I don't have the channel, so this'll be my first taste of their programming. And even though this one was kinda cheap (10 hours worth of episodes for $30), it seems like in general Showtime is almost as expensive as HBO (the only show of theirs in which I own being Curb Your Enthusiasm, as they only sell for $30 per set). Most shows of theirs I saw (including The L Word) were like $50 or more, for not that many episodes (not as mant as a regular network show, anyway). |
I want a goddamned Angel boxset to go with my Buffy one. Hurry the fuck up, Joss.
|
Angel
Seasons 1-5 Loved the show when it still aired on TV. Surprisingly, I started buying the Angel sets before Buffy. While people choose which shows they like more, I'm not going to make any comparisons. They are both unique in their own awesome way. Buffy: The Vampire Slayer Seasons 1-7 For my birthday, I was given the coolest gift: The Chosen Collection of Buffy! I've been watching it ever since, reliving the awesomeness of Joss Whedon's fantastic creation. While it lost its steam halfway through, I can find good in all seven seasons. (My favorite seasons would be Seasons 2 and 3.) Beast Wars: Transformers Seasons 1-3 I LOVE Beast Wars! The characters are unique and original (DinoBot, Rattrap, and Megatron rule), the plots kick serious arse, and the animation is impressive for its time. I enjoyed the show when I was a child, and after all these years, I'm starting to love it even more! Gargoyles Seasons 1-2.5 One of the greatest animated shows of all time. I hope they release the rest of Season 2. Everything about this show is spectacular. Highly recommended to those who've not yet seen it. Ultraman Tiga Japan has helped create loads of awesome characters. While Godzilla continues to grace the cream of the crop, Japan also offers one of it not the coolest hero ever: Ultraman. Ultraman Tiga is one of the best offerings of the giant superhero in the last few years. You're guaranteed to become cooler than you once were if you allow this to grace your television screen. Neon Genesis: Evangelion My favorite Anime series of all time. Only natural for me to get the series on DVD. Godzilla: The Series There was only two seasons, but Sony isn't releasing them in order. But during the animated war for ratings between Pokémon and Digimon, my young eyes turned to this! Yeah, the movie was crap and disgraceful to the legacy of the King of the Monsters, but its animated offspring proved to be quite the opposite! I'm hoping the entire series gets released. In time, 24, Invader Zim, and Futurama will be added. |
Slings & Arrows will be coming out in a month, as will Animaniacs. We should all be excited about these, too.

I've got a grand total of ONE TV series on DVD: CSI:LV season 2. I intend to expand my collection... eventually. I really want to pick up Earth 2; that show was amazing and cancelled prematurely.
Wish Eek! Stravaganza would be brought to DVD. |
I'm waiting on Cheers season 8 - 11 to come out.
Also Captain N & Super Mario Volume 2. |
I just got Enterprise Season 4 and watched all this past weekend. Man it sucks that is was cancelled. I admit I never gave the show a chance when it was on the air, but damn was that a mistake. Next buy is most likely going to be Batman Beyond season 1. Rockin' cartoon.

Also, If you all didn't know already, Darkwing Duck, TaleSpin and The Tick will be coming out on DVD later this year. http://tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=5492 http://tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=5491 http://tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=5464 |
HOLY SHIT!!! You just made my night and week. I love Talespin and Darkwing Duck!

Just wanted to mention that Target has some sets on sale for $23. This includes:
Gilmore Girls seasons 1-5 Nip/Tuck seasons 1-2 The O.C. seasons 1-2 One Tree Hill seasons 1-2 Veronica Mars season 1 The West Wing seasons 1-5 Of all those, I'm definitely getting Veronica Mars. I saw an episode on TV last summer, and it seemed interesting, but I've never seen the set for lower than $40. I know I'll probably like it, but I don't really like spending so much on shows I've never seen before, so this gives me a chance to check it out on the cheap. I also know I'll pick up at least the first season of Gilmore Girls, and possibly even more. I know I like the show (I've been watching the reruns on ABC Family for a while now), but I've never seen it straight through from the beginning, so this is good oppurtunity to do that. Other possible pick ups include Nip/Tuck and The West Wing. I used to watch Nip/Tuck when it first came on, but for some reason (that I can't remember, even though I know it wasn't because the show was bad) I stopped watching it. I still don't know for sure though, because I've seen it for cheap before and still never bought it. I guess it just depends on how much I want to spend. As for West Wing, never seen it before, but it seems kinda good. It may be worth a blind purchase. I only wish they included some more (or some better) titles. It seems that these are all Warner Bros. releases, so I wish they would have included some of their other shows as well, such as Smallville (still need season 4) or (thinking way outside of the realm of possibilities here) La Femme Nikita. Heck, ER would have been a good choice as well (even though I have all of the seasons that are out at the moment), anything over The O.C. and One Tree Hill. |
This week's new releases:
The Andy Griffith Show: The Complete 6th Season Baby Felix: Volume 01- His Magic Bag Of Tricks The Bullwinkle Show: The Best of Boris & Natasha The Bullwinkle Show: The Best Of Rocky And Bullwinkle Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist: Season 1 Everybody Loves Raymond: The Complete 6th Season The Facts of Life: The Complete 1st and 2nd Seasons The Golden Girls: Season 5 Life Goes On: The Complete 1st Season Northern Exposure: Seasons 1 & 2 (New Package) The Phil Silvers Show (AKA Sergeant Bilko): 50th Anniversary Edition Rescue Me: The Complete 2nd Season Scrubs: The Complete 3rd Season Search For Adam & Eve: The 1st Season That '70s Show: Season 4 Trailer Park Boys: Season 5 The West Wing: The Complete 6th Season This week's deals: CSI Seasons 1-2: $20 (Best Buy) Grey's Anatomy Season 1: $15 (Best Buy) Sex and the City The Complete Series: $150 (Best Buy) Titles in red: Free $5 Gift Card with Purchase (Target) Titles in blue: Save $10 when you purchase season 1 or 2 of same show (Circuit City, Best Buy[applies only to Scrubs]) I don't plan on picking up any of the new releases this week, though if I was going to I would probably only get Rescue Me: Season 2. As for the deals, I'll probably get the first two seasons of CSI, because $20 each is a steal (Season 1 MSRP is $80, and Season 2 is $90, but the cheapest I've been able to find them before this was for $50). |
I have a couple collections... Though my collections are not "legit". TV series to me, are very copyable in that the companies already made their money with airing the show. The DVD releases are milking the fans for more money. Anyway, I enjoy these TV shows, and have them either ripped, downloaded, or bought.
SNL: Best of Will Farrell Vol 1 & 2, Best of Jimmy Fallon SNL: Best Of 25 Years of Music The Office: Seasons 1 and 2 Smallville: Season 1 (and soon to be 2,3,4) Band Of Brothers I would love to buy Firefly and will soon someday once I get in less of a financial pickle. |
Well recently I have fallen into this trend as well:
Chappelle's Show Season 2 Quantum Leap Season 1 McGuyver Seasons 1-3 (for my mom) Titus Seasons 1-2 Why is it so damn hard to find season 3 of titus? |
I only really bother to buy TV shows I'm absolutely addicted and in love with. But they still fall victim to "I can only watch them once in one long ass marathon and never really want to re-watch them again until 2 or 3 years"
Scrubs - Seasons 1-2 Gilmore Girls - Seasons 1-4 Other favorites like Law and Order, I could catch on syndication anytime I want and most episodes are the same. |
Quote:
As hard as it is to find though, it's definitely worth it. Season 3 had just as many good episodes as seasons 1 & 2, and it definitely ended the series in a way that you would expect from this show. |
The only TV DVD boxsets I own are:
Gargoyles season 1 (bought) Gargoyles Season 2 volume 1 (bought) Dragon Ball Tournament Saga (present) DBGT Lost episodes volume 1 (gift) Wolf's Rain volume 1 (gift) I'd LOVE to get more TV DVD boxsets IF all my favourite shows would actually come out on DVD, stuff like Digimon Tamers, Secret Files of the SpyDogs, Dog City, etc. There's a rumour that Tale Spin may appear on DVD, and I'd be a happy camper if it is true. I'd like to get the entire DB DVD set (except for the first saga which, due to copyright issues, can't be put on DVD in North America), Beast Wars and Gargoyles (the rest of season 2), but they're all pretty pricy. It's going to take a while to get them all. I like all my sets...don't really have a fave, ah-roooooo. |
The Adventures Of Pete And Pete Season 1, 2
Alias Season 1, 2, 3 Angel Season 1, 2, 3 Band Of Brothers Batman: The Animated Series Vol 1, 4 Batman Beyond Vol 1 Buffy The Vampire Slayer Seasons 1 - 7 Chapelle Show - Season 1, 2 The Critic DeGrassi: The Next Generation Vol 1, 2, 3 Deadwood Season 1, 2 Firefly Millennium Season 1, 2, 3 Miracles My So-Called Life Mystery Science Theater 3000 Vol 1, 2, 4, 6 Nowhere Man The Outer Limits Season 1 The Outer Limits (Original) Season 1, 2 The Prisoner Vol 1 - 5 Sliders Seasons 1 & 2 Space: Above And Beyond Star Trek: The Next Generation Seasons 1 - 7 Twilight Zone Season 1 Twin Peaks Season 1 Wonderfalls X-Files Season 1, 2 |
I've got:
Chappelle's Show Seasons 1-2 Family Guy Volumes 1-3 (Plus Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story) South Park Seasons 2-7 (Plus the Bigger, Longer, and Uncut) Aqua Teen Hunger Force Volumes 1-2 Seinfeld Volumes 1-5 Malcolm in the Middle Season 1 Viva La Bam Seasons 2 & 3 |

AHHHH! THE RUMOUR IS TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait! I really hope the pilot eps aren't cut though, but I'd get it regardless. Also, the DVD cover art is the best Disney cover I've seen in a long while! Thanks so much for the info!!!
P.S. I'm glad they didn't go the Quack Pack and Goof Troop way and release only 3 eps on one DVD. |
Yes, the pilot episodes are in there as well (look at the bottom of the cover art). They made sure to include them after making the mistake of angering fans by not including the pilots for Ducktales and Chip and Dale: Rescue Ramgers on those DVD sets last year.
|
No, that's not what I meant. After the pilot eps have aired on TV, they cut out scenes from those same eps when they reaired them again. I'd like for those eps to be uncut for the DVD sets. The creators of Gargoyles had a big hand in those DVD sets, and thus the pilot episodes were uncut. Since I doubt the Tale Spin creators (whoever they are) will be doing anything, Disney may not choose to air them uncut :(
|
Oh, okay. I haven't heard anything about that, but I imagine that they would most likely put the uncut versions on the DVD. There have been shows released on DVD that were cut (like the first season of The Cosby Show, which was released with the edited syndicated versions of the episodes), but for the most part studios usually try to release them uncut.
|
Oh son of a bitch. They pushed the next season of Bullshit! to October.
|
I sure hope so. It even comes out on the same month as my birthday :D
Cool boxart, but the packaging on the individual DVDs suck ass. They reused the same covers from the really old VHS tapes, but with the new funky logo! Baloo doesn't even HAVE pink ears! |

Like Baloo even matters. It's all about http://www.lambdapsiphi.com/daft/daf...s/plunder9.jpg "What a lousy place to put a wall..." |
Well, that's true...Karnage is my fave Disney villain ever. He has a way cool accent, is a snappy dresser and despite his antics, he can be pretty darn evil at times.
"It's Karnage! KARNAGE! Roll the 'R'!" "Do not call me by...that...word!" "What, 'crazy'?" "That is the word!" |
I bought the second season of 'Millennium' on DVD today for $33 at Best Buy. The store brought the price down to $33 on all three seasons. They use to be $50. I now have all three seasons on DVD. The next TV show season I'll get is the fourth season of 'The Pretender'. After that the only show I can think of to get is any new seasons of '24'. I think season 5 comes out in November or December.

List:
- Simpsons Season 1-7 - Family Guy Volume 1-3 + the movie - Batman The Animated Series Volume 1-4 - Fortier Saison 1-5 - Futurama Volume 1-4 - Un Gars Une Fille DVD 01-15 - Megaman Volume 1-2 - La Petite Vie DVD 1-7 - C.S.I Season 1-5 - Chick'N Swell - Happy Tree Friends Volume 1-3 (Maybe it's not really a TV show, but it's great anyway) - Arc the Lad Complete Series - Cowboy Bebop Session 1st-6th + movie - Samuraï Jack Season 1-2 - Tru Calling Season 1-2 - Le Groulx Luxe... C'est N'importe Quoi (Best of 3 seasons. There's no complete set :() - Spaced Special Edition - Dans Une Galaxie Près De Chez Vous "AN 1" to "AN 4" [Year 1] to [Year 4] - The Osbourne Season 1-2 - Rock & Belles Oreilles 1-4 - V The Complete Series - American Dad Volume 1 - Best of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog - Le DVD du Peuple (Best of "La série du Peuple" and best of "Le Journul") Funny/Interesting facts: - I was surprised when they make that decision of Homer's head for Simpson Season 6. But I got used to it, so I picked up Marge's head package for Season 7 - If you understand french I suggest you all to import Fortier (if you like weird murder solving shows), Chick'N Swell (despite the low budget theme of the show it's so absurb it's so funny), Un Gars une Fille (short funny sketches on different theme related to a couple) and La Petite Vie (probably the funniest Quebecer TV show ever). I'm not sure if there's any english subtitle (or any subtitle at all) for those sets, though. - About CSI, I don't know for any other fan of the series, do you like CSI Miami or CSI:NY ? I don't. They have their own "style", but the original is still the best. Wishlist: - In october, CSI Season 6 in DVD !!! - when I'll get the cash, I'm gonna throw myself into Stargate SG-1. I've watched a couple of episodes dubbed in french and the whole idea seemed promising. |
