Just like it's predecessor, Jump Superstars, Ultimate Stars features the "koma" system in which character from the panels of SJ manga can be summoned via the touchscreen to aid you in battle. The effects of these characters vary widely in usage and are often temporary and supplementary assists.

The characters you control (occupy 4 or more panels) are also part of these panels, and you can switch amongst characters at a mere touch. These characters are controlled with the buttons rather than the touch pad and have various special and super moves.

The biggest improvements in this version are the addition of WiFi play with anyone worldwide, and the gigantic character roster which has significantly improved on the first one.

*NOTE: There is a translation patch out!*

I never played the first one, so don't mind if I ask silly questions. I actually saw someone playing it on the boss some weeks back.

Anyway, I've seen screenshots and I don't get the whole 'panel' thing that looks like a comic. Care to explain?

I'll be getting this game on Saturday when my sister comes back from Japan.

I don't know lots of the titles that's in this game, so don't be surprised if I use nobody but DB or Naruto characters >:P I'm planning on trying them all out though, of course.

One more question. IS SHIKAMARU PLAYABLE?

Kesubei Nov 30, 2006 09:37 PM

I love Jump, and the original Jump Superstars was awesome. I have no doubt that this will be a fun game, though I don't think it'll add anything new to the fighting system, for better or for worse. Hopefully, my local Best Buy will get this in.

Also, I like how they put I's into the game. What could you possibly do with that license in a fighting game?

Amayirot Akago Dec 1, 2006 02:56 AM

Picked it up recently; it's got a few subtle differences compared to its predecessor, but I'm waiting for a decent guide before getting further into it.

K_ Takahashi Dec 1, 2006 03:07 AM

Damn, another game thats too hard to resist to impo rt.

my last $50+shipping for the week is OVeR.

chato Dec 1, 2006 07:05 AM

I only got the game for 45 bucks by my store XD. Played it. Beaten it. A must get? Of course ;p. If some noticed, I had like 2 versions of JuS sigs.

Graphics - 9.0 They improved the look on the characters. Not all look the same but I'll give it that much. You'll see what I mean once you play it. There are new stages all over the Jump Galaxies and yes, The Jump World is still there...XD. Each character has a new move so you'll be impress to see what they do even though it kinda spoils a few things to you o.o. That includes Naruto as well.

Sound - 10.0 The Hit-Punch-Sound-efx is almost the same. The music, without a doubt, is a huge Improvement. When you get into a world. Most of the series (if not all) Have their own theme songs from OST's (I wish they were the actual tracks and not "remixed" to Ganbarion's taste. What more can you ask? It still kicked ass. Alot better than JSS).

Gameplay - 9.5 Alot of things have changed. Instead of finding out what character you need to fill in shadow koma's , You simply earn diamonds and gems( During battle. You don't get them when you win so be on the lookout for them as well) for the Evolution Chart. For some characters, you need alot more than just 100 or 500 diamonds. Dont worry, as you advance from each world in a galaxy, you wont even notice having like 5,000 >=p. So for those people who whine over finding which shadow koma fits who, The Evolution chart is a more standard version.Hey, did I mention that all characters have taunts now? lol.

Characters : 9.5 Well, you've asked for Fist of the North Star, More characters from other series, Mello, Near and finally a fully playable powered up Sasuke and Naruto. While I haven't been using them at all. I'm having too much fun using Kenshiro. My only negative thought on it was that they didn't add the other characters from Hokuto no Ken. All you get is a shitload of Koma's from Kenshiro(fine) but Raoh has just one 6 panel koma (Maybe I have to unlock something , I dunno) The other characters such as Shu,Toki,Rei,Thouther and Shin are only support characters. I won't argue though...they have powerful attacks and you can somewhat perform an infinity combo. I did this once out of fun but I couldn't believe it either. That's enough of this. Everyone has improved. Some of their koma panels are different and more badass. There's just so much to unlock.

Story - 5.5 You won't expect much from it... But I seriously expected someone much more cooler than the other boss from Dr. Slump. And in this one. It is yet ANOTHER boss from the series. I was hoping for Orochimaru or anyone other than a stupid ass character in a machine. Maybe we'll get one in a third installment...maybe.

Overall : 8.5 - Everything is fine,no doubt. There seems to also be a little loading time for 2 short seconds or so before a fight. That doesn't kill the game though so you're good. You be the judge, You might not have the same mind about it like I do but you wont be disappointed.Grab it, Play it, I want to face some of you so bring it!.

Black Mage Dec 1, 2006 12:16 PM

As for the WiFi multiplayer, does it require Friend Codes like most DS games, or does it have a system like Mario Kart DS, where you can "randomly" play other people?

I'm not sure how standard that is, or if it's only with Mario Kart which is why I ask.

projectg Dec 1, 2006 12:52 PM

does it have download play by any chance? the game is looking really good, and I'm debating whether or not to import it.

Freelance Dec 1, 2006 12:56 PM

Hey, Chato. Since you've already played the game, IS SHIKAMARU PLAYABLE? I doubt it, but inquiring minds (ie, me) would like to know!

P.S. If not, is he a support character at least?

DjMeas Dec 1, 2006 02:53 PM

I just tried out a WiFi battle and i got BEAT DOWN like real fast!~~~

Someone had Naruto with the Nine Tails Chakra... he was way stronger than i was ^_^''

WiFi play ~ VS friends and you can also have it match you up randomly like Mario Kart.
There's also Download play though you can't choose characters.
(You get Naruto, Luffy, and the guy Fist of the North Star i believe)
It runs great, i didn't see any lag at all while fighting WiFi. I'm also waiting for a Guide as well.

chato's sigs were actually the origin of why I wanted this game, otherwise I would not have known about it at all!

Looking at gamefaqs (which I'm sure many of us will rely on, thank you Genroh!) I'm really liking all the added options which DJMeas pointed out.
Download Play
Wifi Play (vs. random, vs. friends)
Quiz (I don't think we'll be trying this very much)
L + R shortcut buttons
Evolution Chart

Looks like it'll be quite a while until I can assemble my dream tea of Sanji, Kazuki, and Arale again, but in the meantime I can assemble everyone's friend codes and we could probably all face off against each other one day. Perhaps with koma restrictions since I'm pretty sure 4 panel Allen Walker would not have a chance against 8 panel Sasuke.

nazpyro Dec 1, 2006 04:14 PM

I most def will get this game. Probably after the holidays though.

Hopefully you're still on a Jump high then (get it? get it?)... ¬_¬

Elixir Dec 1, 2006 04:35 PM

What's the wifi mode like?

I had the original, and sold it, simply because it lacked wifi. And you couldn't play with others unless they owned the game as well. The game's interesting but there's basically nothing you can do once you've completed it.

Since Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is listed, I'm gonna assume Dio is playable in this.

chato Dec 1, 2006 06:42 PM

I guess I should bring back the av and sig..

Most questions were answered so...yeah. Shikamaru isn't playable, the L and R shortcuts are also there so that you won't have any finger smudges on your touch screen. Which is a really good idea.

We all know that DBZ characters are going to be in there. JUS gave us that new dude Sai as a support character. I haven't unlocked it yet cause I stopped playing it yesterday. I'll try to see what else in there. Gaara of the Desert is only a support character BUT his damage is really strong and to see his moves is just badass. A real downer that he isn't a battle character along with Sai,Shimaru or the other 2 sand people. They know very damn well they could've added them. They're just lazy ;p.

The Wifi thing makes people mad cause they say it Lags or something.

Megalixir - I believe Dio was playable in JSS as well. Just as good as Jojo. I still carry JSS only as a collectable nowadays =/. JUS is better than the first one not only cause it has more characters and features but the music just lets you play more and more. but that's just me

Summonmaster - with a 4 panel Allen Walker, You can beat anybody. Just don't give them the time or combo to let them connect with their super attack ;p.

Freelance Dec 2, 2006 12:31 AM

Awww, bummer Shika's not playable, but that's okay. He's still a support character at least!

My sister comes back tomorrow evening, YAY! Can't wait to get my hands on the game. Can someone just explain briefly what those comic panels mean though? I never played the first one.

Both Jotaro and Dio were playable characters in the first game as well. And both of em ROCK.

1 panel koma - help
2 panel koma - help?wise? or laughter..not sure
3 panel koma - support
4-8 panel koma - Battle

In JSS, you needed to use certain koma's to complete a mission. JUS doesn't have that kinda of difficulty like it used to but it was very annoying too. Some missions you have to use certain characters like Naruto or Bo-bobo

2 panel koma seem to also fall under the support category, support being, if you touch them or have L/R assigned to them and press it, you'll summon them for a second and the effect is dependent on the koma. Regardless of size, support koma expend when summoned 1 full special gauge so pick wisely.
Eg. 2 panel Sanji = small healing, while 3 panel Gon = delayed attack
~

That also reminds me of another change, in how 1 panel help koma no longer offer dinky status effects when touched. They more useful now in that you don't have to touch them, and simply linking them to your battle characters gives them neat passive abilities.
Eg. Saya = Max health up, while Naruto = Wall Jump

I don't like how you are forced to used certain decks like Kinniku Man's or Seiya's for their respective worlds to clear certain missions, but so far the ai's pretty braindead when they're not gang beating on you in a pincer attack. I've noticed that they seem to suicide when hanging off a ledge instead of opting to jump back up a lot.

Sanji + Lenalee now round out my primary deck. Waiting on Arale, but I don't know if she'll fit without sacrificing many help girls (for Sanji) in the deck.

Trying to face against random people proves unfruitful. I've only found one person who quickly left in all the times I tried to just search for random people. Getting impatient for everyone else's copy to arrive :P Maybe it's the time zone difference.

chato Dec 2, 2006 01:28 PM

Since I read your post now, I assume we're both on the same side of the state >=p.

About the 3rd panel koma, I was going to add that it also involves attacks (Use Fist of the North Star people XD). I mean they really got everyone's moves well. All I really see are just more DBZ raping >.>. At least there's kid buu XD..Wait.. is Cell in there? If not, then that is BULLLLSHIIIIITT -.-.

Freelance Dec 2, 2006 10:26 PM

I GOT IT I GOT IT! My sister just came home and gave it to me!!

My friend code is 0344 4525 7304

Update: I'm really confused. I want to unlock stuff, but I have no idea what mission I'm in : /

Oh. never mind...

Summonmaster Dec 3, 2006 01:09 AM

chato get your friend code in here! By time zone difference I meant probably with the Japanese people that have this game ;)

Haha FW, 15-30 minutes of experimentation/playing with the faq will quickly lay the foundation for the rest of the game. (eg. Remembering to set a leader everytime you edit your battle characters, Having at least one of each help, support, and battle koma in a deck, etc.)

I am so hot for this game still! After 4/5 hours of studying for finals I binged for 6 hours straight and finally have Arale, and have three solid character favourites (Lvl. 5 Lenalee, Lvl. 6 Tsuna, Lvl. 6 Arale) which I split over decks for balance and variety.

Freelance Dec 3, 2006 10:53 AM

I completed lots of missions already, and I've yet to unlock any battle characters >_> All I still got are the default ones.

I dunno how I can destroy all walls in the space of a minute.

Am I going to have huge difficulties in making a deck? The FAQ tells what abilities each help character does, but since it's listed by names (and what series they're in), it's useless to me. Sure, I know those characters that everyone knows, like Zoro and Gohan, but there's a ton of manga in the game I've never heard of, or know so little off. I don't know the names of these characters, let alone know what they look like. I guess I'll just wing it and hope for the best.

Update: OOOOOOOH! I finally understand how to get more battle characters. Yay I evolved a whole bunch of crap to add to my deck.

I'm getting the hang of this game now. No more questions from me yet.

P.S. Is there a list showing what exactly each koma does for help and support?

I had trouble with all walls broken in a minute too, but if you're talking about that mission on HunterXHunter planet, it requires use of up+X to power Gon up. You can take care of the top two walls on the topmost platform with repeated Y attacks (you'll scrape the walls barely, contrary to what it looks like). Drop down to the next platform and get rid of the third wall from the top. Use repeated drop-> B attacks for the two walls under, while masterfully using down+A to land precisely on the springboards with speed. Take care of the bottom 2 walls with repeated y. Quickly dash over to the other side and repeat. Do Up+X whenever it wears off, and restart if your down+A doesn't end up with you bouncing off a spring too much.

It's hard to wing it with help characters too, but I really only care about the effects if it's something like triple jump or regeneration. The best you can do is just to learn katakana. (only 45 characters) After that, you can read the majority of the names. It's simpler than it appears (eg. Naruto = Na Ru To, in three katakana characters), but it's understandable if you don't want to exert that much effort.

For a starting point:
Gon = HunterXHunter, Black spiky hair, yellow energy attacks
Tsuna = Hitman Reborn, flame on his head, accompanied by a baby in a black cowboy outfit
Allen Walker = D. Gray-Man, gray hair, metal arm, "akuma" in speech bubble
Jaguar = Pyou to Fukyuu Jaguar!, orange hair, runs with arms spread out, uses extending flute
Bobobo = Bobobobo bobobo, yellow afro, uses nose hair

etc.

Freelance Dec 3, 2006 01:14 PM

Thanks for your help, summonmaster. It's nice to learn from the pros :D

I'm gonna go unlock lots of crap before I try my hand online first. Hope to see you soon :3
Oh, I'm gonna add you to my Friend list now.

Update: (Pay 400 pink gems on Ou Tenkun's Evolution Chart to unlock this stage)
Help here?? On second thought, help with all the other planets I need to buy?

chato Dec 3, 2006 04:56 PM

When you're in battle. Make sure you punch a few boxes to get some gems out of it. Killing a few people also does the same. The chances of getting a pink gem are kinda rare. I can't remember which mission it was where you can get a shitload of them. Perhaps SM can help with that?

I'm almost done unlocking the characters. I need to get to the Death Note stage.

Summonmaster Dec 4, 2006 02:04 PM

I tried the online function yesterday and I couldn't put it down!
I was dreading that people would be just using "Level 7 Ichigo!" or "Level 7 Kenshiro!" as the norm, and I was partially right, but then I was also a bit wrong.

Sure, people used those characters. I would see the same strategy from different people as well:
Kenshiro -> forward+y, make you hang off ledge, use X multi punch special when you get up, taunt to force you down
Ichigo -> Speed speed speed, Gatsuga Tenshou! Flash Step everywhere.

There were some very interesting decks and the option of saving rival decks is very intriguing. It's always neat to see if someone beat you with skill (primarily level 4 characters + assists), or with power (Level 7/8 characters). Everyone and their mom seems to use Sanji, Ichigo or Kenshiro. They have some favourite assists too such as Future Swordsman Trunks, and Seiya's downward multi punch.

I'm sort of hoping others save my deck since I seem to be the only one who uses Arale. I do well with her at poking and poking which gives a lot of people trouble, but ultimately lose out due to either silly mistakes such as divebombing my other character off the screen with a jumping Y, or forgetting to use my 2 panel Chopper.
Looks like a good balance of quantity and power works to one's advantage.

chato Dec 4, 2006 02:16 PM

Another good tactic from kenshiro (7th koma) would be to jump and do a light hit followed by the nunchuck move+super attack X. Make sure you have Rei and Toki for the massacre XD.

Does anyone know if Allen Walker has a lv 8 koma? I believe it needs to be unlocked or something.

Yesasia has it for cheaper in total since shipping is free, but I don't know if it'll ship as fast (My copy only took 5 days).

By the way, who exactly is that koma that pauses and then stabs with a spear repeatedly for a while? That seems to be the cpu's favourite support to call, and it's really annoying.

chato Dec 4, 2006 07:16 PM

Are you talking about Zorro? He's that greenhaired swordsman from One Piece. If i remember, he pauses til someone lays a finger on him then he counters with a combo or does a huge thrust. I guess he has new moves in this one. Im not familiar with the JUS version of Zorro. Kenshiro anda few other fighters have that kind of pause and super attack.

Summonmaster Dec 4, 2006 08:38 PM

Nah, he's shirtless with blue pants and the spear thrusts stab a lot covering a wide area in front of the summoner and the pause isn't that long. Zoro is a counter koma and nowhere near this annoying.

Kimchi Dec 4, 2006 08:55 PM

Too bad, only way I can ever get this game is purchasing it online =.= Mom will never let me do that =.= (Why does American licensers have to be gay? )

Sakabadger Dec 4, 2006 08:57 PM

likely for the same reason we never got Super Robot Wars or whatever -- the amount of licensing (even though they are all Shounen Jump characters) is probably inhibitive to anyone who wants to bring it over and keep it relatively cheap.

And, as a whole, I presume the market for anime/manga-related games is pretty low here.

Ohhh that fuckin dude!. His name is Momo (Momotaro Tsurugi) from Sagigake!! Otokojuku. One of THE most deadliest battle/support attack character in the game along with Edajima -_-.

If you're not there yet. One of the bosses' planet will have you fight momo, edajima,lv8 sasuke, and kyuubit naruto at the same time . Be ready for it

Freelance Dec 4, 2006 11:07 PM

OK, I completed the game. The credits is cool. I haven't unlocked absolutely everything yet, but I did unlock lots of Komas.

I'm having trouble unlocking the hidden planets though. I got some, but there are still others I don't have yet.

I made up a deck for online play. Since I'm a beginner, it probably sucks. There's so many different variables to consider. I like using characters nobody else uses (nobody ever likes the characters I use in fighting games, like Bowser in SSBM. He rocks). I hope to try out the deck soon.

They shoulda used the music from the animes in the game. Luckily, the Naruto BGM is similiar to the anime music, so that's cool. I love Naruto music. I'm still waiting for that damn Chinese tune that plays during Ten-Ten's and Temari's match to appear on CD >_>

Freelance Dec 8, 2006 02:48 PM

I guess not many people bought this game. I couldn't wait around for someone else to post first before typing this.

I played with my little sister today through the download play, and they only give you (and the other players) one of three pre-made decks, and they pretty much have the same characters in them. It was fun, but so lame as well since we couldn't use the same four people over and over. I wished she had the game now.

I tried playing online with strangers today, and I ended up with two other people from Japan. Naturally, the lag was bad so I quit. There's at least three of us who already have the game, so why aren't we playing together? It's better than playing with people from across the world.

I hope nobody plays with just the strongest koma characters and supports. That gets old fast.

Sakabadger Dec 8, 2006 03:11 PM

I have the game (via the good graces of a flash cart) but I haven't yet tried it out much. Having to use GameFAQs to reference a lot of things is kind of tiring. :(

I'd be glad to play once I get this figured out, though!

Freelance Dec 8, 2006 03:32 PM

Whoo another player we can play with.

Most of the missions are pretty darn easy though. It's usually always the same goals: KO someone, KO 2 people, KO 3 people, grab cloth and hang onto it for 10 seconds, get a ring-out, kill with support, kill with special. You can basically wing through most of it without even looking at the translation guide. If you evolve Luffy, you can breeze through 98% of the missions with his spammy special moves. He's just awesome for ring outs.

It's just the Helper Koma I really need the guide for.

chato Dec 8, 2006 05:01 PM

Sorry I wasn't able to get to play it on wifi yet. I found the damn thing crushed by a very heavy bucket of compound along with tiles on top of each other -_-... ( yeah... fixing stuff in my 3rd floor home).

Cool! That makes 4 of us, plus Rock who hasn't received his game yet, making 5 players in total.

I'm pretty much ready to go at any time, but not too late as I have work at 7am. Thursday nights are the best time for me to play, but if you want to set an earlier time, let me know and I'll see if I can wing it.

Summonmaster Dec 9, 2006 03:16 PM

All right kids, Thursday's perfect for me, since I have to cram for a particular exam in the next 2 days anyways, then I can enjoy the bliss. I completed all the missions and their secret requirements, so I basically need the online matchups to be able to fill out everyone's evolution charts for good (farming gems is too tedious, especially with greedy cpus).

I noticed the online lag, but so far, it wasn't so bad that it made me quit. It's less than a second for the most part, so it's still enjoyable. I'm starting to think that the only reason that I do good with Arale and my poop deck is because of the delay. :s I'm also against Gear 3 Luffy and Kyuubi Naruto spamming.

Freelance Dec 13, 2006 11:04 PM

So...is anyone else going to play tomorrow night, or will it be just Summonmaster and I? I heavily edited my deck tonight to get ready for tomorrow (my original deck sucked), but I bet it's probably still bad. Haha...

When is a good time to play? I'm in the EST zone.

chato Dec 14, 2006 06:09 PM

Im kinda done with tests and exams, etc. I work tomorrow from 8-4 so maybe we'll see. I just need to remind myself to pick up the wifi u_u .

Freelance Dec 14, 2006 06:45 PM

So you may be able to play tomorrow? Awesome. I'd like to have a four-for-all, heh. Rock apparently still hasn't gotten his copy in the mail yet, which sucks.

Summonmaster Dec 14, 2006 08:03 PM

I'm working from 8-4 tomorrow too (current time here is 8 pm), and my exam's on Saturday so I definitely have time to play tomorrow as well. I know more people have this than just us 3!

Looks like online matches, while a viable option, still aren't a very good way to get gems, so after completing all the stages I'm at a very slow acquisition rate. Even beating the Ranking modes takes a while (20 matches)

Sakabadger Dec 14, 2006 09:20 PM

Haha, I played with Summonmaster a few times and he kicked my butt about 6 different ways. When you start your first match not knowing how to jump, things can be complicated.

In any case, it's pretty fun and amusing. I'll get better. :(((

Also, we managed to organize our game by chatting in IRC (#rtfo @ irc.xelium.net) so I extend the offer to all of you to swing by if you want to chat.

Freelance Dec 14, 2006 11:43 PM

I played with SummonMaster tonight and damn, he kicked me in more ways than I could have imagined, but he surprised me by saying I'm 'surprisingly good.' XD Cool.

It'd be even more fun with 3 and 4 player battles! I hafta make up some new decks now :D
Let's try to get together tomorrow, you guys.

Sakabadger Dec 14, 2006 11:55 PM

Everyone v Summonmaster, apparently. HE MUST BE TAKEN OUT

ps another shameless plug:

#rtfo @ irc.xelium.net (if you use chocochat, you can simply type /j #rtfo) to organize some matchessssssssssss

chato Dec 15, 2006 12:34 AM

I'll need to know who you have in your deck, SM. Looks like not even the two of them can beat you. We need to go at it One on One XD.

Sakabadger Dec 15, 2006 04:48 AM

Well to be fair, my total game play time when I played againt Summonmaster was <5 minutes. :(

Freelance Dec 15, 2006 09:47 AM

Well, SM has been playing it online a lot, while this is my first time ever, so he already has lots of strategies set in stone already. He also has this really annoying Support in 2 decks that basically makes me totally vulnerable to his attacks. Hahaha, even he says it's annoying.

Update: Okay! When are we gonna play today? Got any times?

Summonmaster Dec 15, 2006 04:13 PM

All right, all right, settle down kids! I actually forgot to tell you to abuse your push block (X repeatedly during guard), which would have helped a little bit. Honestly, people learn fast. If I was really any good, then I would have managed a perfect victory, but I never did ;) It's also highly recommended to remember what items do, whenever I turn them on. Always try to grab the Jump magazines for infinite super!

If it helps, 3 on 1 (I think you can do that with the team settings) was a actually an option I was thinking about after yesterday's matches. That would be lots of fun, like trying to take out Giant DK, not that he was astoundingly hard or anything. Plus, I feel like some of my level 8 characters are cheating, even though no one uses them (Caramelman Z >.>), although the poo deck was totally fair.

Owned work earlier, and I don't know how to study any further for tomorrow's exam, so I'm up again.

Freelance Dec 15, 2006 05:18 PM

I never knew there was such a thing as Push blocking :D

Yes, although I was getting my ass kicked, it was still fun to play. Hehee, I made a new deck today. Prolly sucks, but it's a Naruto deck. Everyone says Naruto is crap, so I wanna try to be good with him. I'm like that >_>

I can't play right now. Dinner and chores and all that. I can play a little later. Hope more people play tonight!

chato Dec 15, 2006 05:30 PM

Alright. Got the wifi thing. So someone needs to let me know how I do this. (Haven't tried it in a while so..).

Freelance Dec 15, 2006 07:18 PM

Well come to #rtfo :3

As for connecting to wifi, go to the 3rd button on the top row. Now select the middle option on the left. Then click the first option and then the left button. That connects you online.

chato Dec 15, 2006 07:40 PM

Thanks for letting me know. All this other shit is kinda complicated in japanese. I'll be on aim if anything. That is if Im around ;p.

Freelance Dec 15, 2006 09:15 PM

Wow, did I have fun tonight playing with Summonmaster and Sakabadger. I tried out my two decks plus my sister's deck with them and it was cool. We need more people buying this game! >_>

Sakabadger Dec 16, 2006 03:39 PM

Ice got his wifi to work, so we played a few games. He kicked my butt :((

Still working on getting more komas. My god this game is LONG.

But they don't have either game around here. I'm JUST NOW finding Super Stars.

Summonmaster Dec 18, 2006 10:00 PM

Yep importing is a MUST.
Honestly, JUS totally trumps JSS, unless you have a weird Mr. Fullswing or Shikamaru fetish, some of the supports they removed for a weird reason. Unless you want it for collector's sake or find it cheap and locally one day by some miracle, steer far and clear away from it. Thing with JUS is that there is literally nothing to do after you've unlocked all the koma (which can be done quicker since there's less in comparison). Wifi obviously boosts replay value of JUS and rival data as well.

Freelance Dec 18, 2006 10:09 PM

But I have a Shikamaru fetish :(

I never got JSS because there's nobody for me play with, and there wasn't any online mode, so there was no point getting it. Even my love for Shikamaru didn't make me want to get it. He's in Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen (I have all 4 games) anyway.

JuS is fun online though, unless it's against Japanese players 'cause they're too good. I played with Sakabadger and Icetron just recently and they don't like my Naruto deck XD I actually WON two times too!

I haven't played with three other people yet. Import this damn game so I can!

Summonmaster Dec 19, 2006 01:11 PM

Well well, this is quite interesting now :) As more and more people are coming out of the woodwork, the possibility of 4 player battles exponentially increases. Looking at most people's local time settings, getting together for battles shouldn't be too hard for the most part. I'm up for a battle tonight or pretty much any time or day after 6 p.m. today.

^-^ Dec 19, 2006 02:14 PM

Don't trust my time settings. I haven't changed mine since I moved, and Im in Florida.

As I said in the channel, this week is okay, but the week of Christmas isn't good, seeing that I have to work at 9:45PM-4:45AM on christmas Day (In the busiest section of the park, no doubt), then have three 10 hour shifts in a row.

But maybe I'll have the energy. We'll just have to see.

Summonmaster Dec 22, 2006 05:04 PM

Ok, I should have done this along time ago, to attract more people, since the curious ones would still need a little nudge in order to look up on what this game is actually is. So there you go, just as described:
Manga + Super Smash Brothers = Jump Ultimate Stars

So our 4 player battles have finally come to fruition, and unfortunately, also came massive lag. It was someone's connection though, and for the most part, the game runs with minimal lag online. Especially against some Japanese people. I'm going to have to start deleting some of these rival decks with all these different but subtle variations on characters. It's making Championship mode quite annoying.

Okay, I went ahead and made one. I added everyone from Summonmaster's list in the first post to the page, but if there's anyone else (well, I also need to add myself as well, but I haven't been online yet to have a friend code) I can add them too.

I'm curious, 'cuz in my location it'd probably be equal to an american playing a japanese player.

I get no lag, despite several others complaining about it. Honestly, any lag is most likely from sore people who aren't confident enough that they will win and leave their torrents running. Of course, lag sometimes pops up for no reason, as experienced yesterday in a match amongst us Canadians. Most of the time though, it's just a tiny slight slower than playing against the cpu yourself whenever I face random people with relatively stable connections. Nothing too impeding.

Oh okay. It just wasn't on the main Friend codes page. This is just a technicality, but there was reason I made it capital 'F' and lowercase 'c' but not I can't remember why. Maybe for corrective purposes, someone can figure out what it's suppose to be.

So it'll be fine on say a DSL line then? I wouldn't run any torrents or downloads of any kind when playing a wifi game anyway, that's just stupid.

IT'S SECOND QUESTION TIME

Where's the cheapest to order from? I'm thinking play-asia as usual, since I always have coupons sitting around somewhere.

Summonmaster Jan 21, 2007 10:35 PM

Yesasia. Everyone keeps referring to playasia, but yesyasia has the free shipping and is cheaper in dollars!

Elixir Jan 21, 2007 10:46 PM

I'd go with yes-asia if their shipping didn't take half a month to get to me, so yeah.

I found one on ebay that's the cheapest I can find, so I'll just try there.

Amayirot Akago Jan 22, 2007 03:55 AM

Goddamn, I really need to get off my ass and start playing DS games again.

Elixir Jan 30, 2007 08:52 PM

My god I haven't seen so much lag in my entire life.

How is it even possible to play over wifi when everything is in slow motion?

Summonmaster Jan 30, 2007 09:24 PM

You're getting unlucky. Only 1/6 of my matches have terrible lag, if even. Not to say that it's a smooth and seamless as in game, but it's not too far from it.
Maybe the lag will be less when you face gffers hopefully :s

Elixir Jan 30, 2007 10:12 PM

Doubt it. Does the game have a "match my region" thing like Hunters?

Summonmaster Jan 30, 2007 10:57 PM

No :S, but you should still just try 10 or so matches before giving up in frustration. You could always try FC battles which are usually lag free for the most part. You don't know what kinds of stupid people you can face in random "Japan battle", such as losers that torrent on purpose.

Elixir Jan 31, 2007 05:15 PM

This is garbage.

I finally get wifi connected, and into a game which doesn't lag. It lasted about 2 minutes before I was disconnected from wifi and nothing online will load so I'm forced to reset my router after each time I'm connected to wifi.

Fuck this I give up.

chato Jan 31, 2007 06:21 PM

Just buy a Nintendo Wifi USB. and you'll be set in no time =/.

Summonmaster Jan 31, 2007 06:25 PM

So you did get connected, but you got ejected and have to reset your router each time? That's quite unfortunate but at least you tasted success, however brief. I don't know how effective the dongle will be but it shouldn't hurt to give it a shot. The game becomes very addicting once your online capabilities work consistently ;)
JUS without online = trash (after unlocking everything)

Elixir Jan 31, 2007 06:41 PM

It connects, and I can play just fine depending on whether or not it's lagging. Then if I go to my computer and attempt to browse, nothing will load. I have no idea why this is happening but I really can't be bothered fucking around with the settings to get it working.

The only reason I purchased the wifi thing in the first place was for Wii updates. Guess it'll stay like that.

Freelance Feb 4, 2007 07:04 AM

I wanted to try out a new deck with RockyIII last night, and what was supposed to be a ten minute match (or so) turned out to be an (almost) two hour match.

The reason for this, aside from the pure fun factor was the appearance of summonmaster ("You have a challenger!" showed up on my screen) during one of my matches with Rocky, so we did some 3p matches. 2p battles are fun. 3p battles are hectic. 4p battles are chaotic. Seems like a nice way of putting it.

Seeing as how my Naruto themed deck was only good for 3 and 4p battles, I made one suited for 2p which was the reason why I forced Rocky to test it with me. Yay.

Then summonmaster comes along using all these wild and crazy decks filled with monsters and people whom I've never heard of before. That makes me want to make one too!

So that's my story. Oh, did I forget to mention that the matches were 100% lag-free and that JuS has one of the most fun multiplayer online?

P.S. I still haven't added everyone to my list yet >_>

P.P.S. @Elixir, it's too bad your router's gone bonkers and you're getting lag, but our GFF matches are generally lag-free. Hope you can play with us sometime.

Summonmaster Feb 4, 2007 01:18 PM

Heehee hee, sorry for intruding. I knew I was invading when I saw the two of you covertly go online for the first time this year, and I was expecting to you guys to kick me out after the first match or so. Apologies for all the poo/yoyo flinging, lancing and "ZA WARUDO"ing! I can no longer play easy with you guys, and will have to get slightly more serious from now on since you both improved.

Very fun stuff, and of course I extend an invitation to anyone who posted their FC to join my games if you ever see me hosting, because GFFers are NEVER EVER an intrusion to me. Some GFaqers may be another story ;)

PS. My fun decks were:
- Orange Hair, or close enough (Nami, Ichigo, Kenshin, Jaguar, Shanks)
- Pale Hair (Killua, Kazuki, Hitsugaya, Gokudera, Allen)
- Spiky Blondes, basically any combination from dbz (Vegetto, Gotenks, Vegeta)
- Little Boys aka. Pedo deck (Tsuna, Gon, Killua, Ninku, Muhyo, Orochimaru)
- Girls (Eve, Lenalee, Robin, Anna, Sanji [massive heal to girls])

I'm playing serious when I use Kazuki or Nami 6 against you for a long period of time >=)

PPS. Like how you used the starter deck for the last one, so I couldn't peek at what your deck was. >.>

Arrgh...that was a mistake. I was doing something else in between rounds and never actually chose a deck, so when the next round commenced, I got stuck with the starter >_> That was entirely unintentional, honest. Besides, I'd never use Luffy in a deck.

I have several decks so far. Only two are themed. The rest were thrown in haphazardly :D

Naruto (Kakashi/Kyuubi Naruto) for 3 and 4 player battles.

NarutoExtreme (I am so unoriginal) with Naruto and Sasuke for 2 player battles.

Test (no name yet) with Kurama and Yoh.

My first deck with Eve and SSJ2 Son Gohan

My little sister's deck with Yoh and Yugi, although since it isn't a deck that I personally made, I'm going to stop using it.

ZeroSlash Feb 6, 2007 01:14 PM

I just got JUS last week and I've been thoroughly enjoying it. I got JSS back when it was the cool import and enjoyed it well even though I only had my brother to go head to head with. I've made a bit of progress in JUS to where I've got 7 koma ichigo and six koma JoJo and I'm up to the JUMP planets. I've only played online once with my ragtag decks. The best I did was get into a Sudden Death fight and still lost. There was quite a bit of lag in most of the fights.

So yeah, my Friend Code is: 180480083894

I don't have a router in my room but I do go to a friends room and use his.

Summonmaster Feb 6, 2007 10:10 PM

Don't worry, GFFer fights have so far been blessed with lag-free occurrences. No losers torrenting while playing here :p

This is quite distressing, looks like the FC list has a maximum of 50, and there are some people on there permanently that I can't delete. If I try to delete them, then my game freezes. I still need to make room for all the GFFers I haven't added yet.

I'm still hot for games, and would classify myself as middle tier, so feel free to challenge me. My hours of play are 10:30 pm EST to 3:00 am EST on weekdays, and anytime on weekends.

Don't worry, these decks are experimental at best and have flaws which I've found out. Plus your Naruto gives me trouble if I get hit. :p
Surely someone from my FC list will interrupt so I doubt that we won't have four somehow.

chato Feb 12, 2007 06:30 AM

Im curious to know if anyone messed with the Quiz Mode in JUS. The most answers I got right were about 18. Does anyone know where I can get it translated or is it impossible? ;p

ZeroSlash Feb 16, 2007 03:21 PM

I just got a wireless router today and it's already set up, so now I can join in at almost anytime. Just pm or better AIM me if any body's looking for a fight though I'll be honest, I still consider myself lower tier.

EDIT: Ok, for some reason the my DS isn't connecting to the router. Might take a while to figure out.

nabhan Feb 16, 2007 03:54 PM

I'm so confused by the objectives in the story mode. I want to play online, but I don't think I have anything unlocked. Why couldn't there be an English mode ;_;

Once I beat Phoenix Wright I'll seriously get to this~

edit: actually started playing with a faq by my side. rly rly liking it now

Sakabadger Feb 16, 2007 11:18 PM

Objectives usually only ever concern one of a few things:

- KO all the opponents
- KO all the opponents within a set amount of time
- KO using a special move
- KO using a support

- Gather more stars than your opponents
- Gather all the stars
- Gather all the stars in under a certain amount of time

- Get more points than your opponents
- Get more than x points

etc. etc.

But yeah, GameFAQs is pretty handy for figuring out what to do. Prepare to be freaking infuriated by some challenges (NO I DON'T WANT TO PROTECT THAT BRAT)

nabhan Feb 17, 2007 12:28 PM

Haha, wow. I've been evolving Koma's by series, and after finishing the Story Mode I went back to DBZ. EVERY character leads to opening a branch on another character. I'm almost out of green gems from having to go back and upgrade already upgraded characters ;_;

Summonmaster Feb 21, 2007 05:35 PM

JUS session tomorrow night! Meet up at #rtfo, or if you can't be bothered, then just hop in my/Freelance Wolf's (whoever hosts) game. Need 1-2 more players, although all are welcome!

I was playing more championship mode yesterday and I didn't have a challenger at the end of it, so I didn't get a premade deck! I only have like 52, but that time I had 1 second place finish as opposed to my usual 20 first place finishes (silly Jstar :s). Anyone know if that affected my ability to face the challenger for the deck at the end?

Conan-the-3rd Apr 14, 2007 07:59 AM

Hum, I wonder if it's ok to bump this maerly to state that I have this game...

Oh the hell with it,

As above, friendcode is 3351-0460-0902

Summonmaster Apr 14, 2007 12:41 PM

Yay~ I didn't think anyone still played this. I play it everyday multiple times still so if you add my FC and see me hosting or vv, then feel free to enter my room. o_O

Conan-the-3rd Apr 15, 2007 11:45 AM

I'm working my way though J-Galexy mode and have come to a sticking point.

Mostly to do with Shaman King Mission 2 (1 stock contest: Anna vs Dio and Frezza). Christ, get within an inch of Ether member of team b and they'll do unmentionable things to 'mankin's tsundare.

Also, geting under a minute on HunterXHunter Mission...2 (Breakout: Gon and Kullia, break the page barier), I'm aware of the general stratagy but I can only get to just a Minute Thirty.

Summonmaster Apr 15, 2007 02:28 PM

Yeah, Anna is sort of tricky to play if you don't like her.

Use Misa 2 (bottom left corner) on Frieza and he'll die with no trouble (AI's not smart enough to block Judgement). Since DIO is invulnerable to Judgment, you can spam X for large damage, or >+B from mid-range, or use Allen 3 (top) sometime during a B, ^+B, ^+Y chain.

Breaking the walls in HXH requires total practice and you can only afford to screw up a fast fall onto a spring about twice or thrice. Use Gon and not Killua. First powerup, Use Y right on the top most platform since the sword will barely graze but still hit the walls. The section of the wall where you have to hit with Gon's B is tricky since that's where the fast falling comes into play, try to make sure you still have the powerup from before active.

ZeroSlash Apr 17, 2007 11:43 AM

Well I some how lost my copy of JUS but I've got a new copy now to replace it so I'm working my way through the J-Galaxy mode again. So I have a new friend code now and I have consistent access to wifi now that lets my DS connect to it.

4682-4842-6258 is my new friend code. I'm always up for a match so give me a ring even though I'm still getting back all the characters I had.

Conan-the-3rd Apr 18, 2007 01:48 AM

Yeah, now I'm just working on unlocking all the World Unlocker Chracters and inturn unlock all the worlds...

Damn it's a lot of locks.

Yeldarb May 27, 2007 09:15 PM

Well I'm just going to post this if someone is willing to play JUS with me.

I finally challenged SM in this here uhh.. JUS.

Wins : 3

Losses : over 20 or so.

Anybody want a melee around ??? Be careful though. SM is a broken machine character!

It's like Rick Moranis from Little Giants said, "But one time...Just one Time ? =)". That's all it is >=]

OmagnusPrime Aug 18, 2007 09:45 AM

Finally stuck the game in my DS (I said it was next). Not played yet, but my friend code is 3050-5105-9082.

Freelance Aug 18, 2007 09:57 AM

Haha I think everyone by now knows that SM is evil in JUS.

I haven't touched JuS in a while, and my decks never change, so if you've played against me before, then you know what they are :D
I can't play right now though. I got some router problems that should be fixed later today.

Update: My problem has been fixed! I got a new router :3

Summonmaster Aug 18, 2007 02:30 PM

Now for the final nail in the coffin, a couple of match videos have been added to the first post in order to entice those who are on the fence about JUS still. The one who recorded for some reason had to suicide with Kurama (3p) and then switch to his other DS (1p), but these are good examples of what you can expect in-game.

Thats wassup. we got to play at least once , Lance. At least we can get a win one battle after the other unlike HIM. However, beating Master 3 times shows that he's vunerable in some areas XD. Just don't challenge him in the Star Medal mode or whatever it's called ;p. He has his ways of obtaining one in a embarassing way. I just use "No Good Tsuna" to annoy him. Unless he's a button masher XD.

Massive bump because there's a translation patch for the game. It was started sometime in the beginning of 2008 and can be found here: JUS Translation - Weukeukeu.

I haven't tried the patch yet but by the videos below, it looks pretty good.

And some Youtube videos showcasing the patched game in action

I have the patch. It works perfectly fine.

horseman85 Jun 10, 2008 08:26 PM

The patch makes things much easier. Anyway, if anyone wants to battle online, my FC is 0387 9976 2364. Won't be on for much tonight though.

chato Jun 12, 2008 04:39 AM

Not a bad patch, indeed. This makes me want to play the game all over again. Since Brawl was only fun in its anticipated launch date/month , We should try to get back at this. As usual, my FC's in Kris' (Summonmaster) first post.

Rockgamer Jun 12, 2008 06:59 AM

So while I haven't looked at the details, I'm guessing this is one of those things where you have to have that emulator stuff to use, right? I'd be interested in trying it, but not if it involves spending more money on what's already the most expensive DS game I've bought so far.

It's not the emulator that you need. What is needed is a flash cart to be able to play the patched game.

I'm admittedly terrible at this stuff, so I don't even know what the difference is. I know I'd still have to buy something though, so I'm in no position to do so at the moment (unless it's super cheap).

It would probably be kind of useless on me though, since I hardly ever play the game anymore. It might help me finally finish single player, but as far as multiplayer goes I've moved on to better fighters.

chato Jun 12, 2008 08:34 AM

Patch works perfect, Rock. No emulator is really needed. Just a cyclods with the JUS rom and downloading a program with a patch and 2 clicks ;). Even if you did have the stuff for it, it's still kind of too late anyway. Besides, gamefaqs (summonmaster's faq) has everything translated.
