SHOW ME YOUR TATS
Y'know, your tattoos? I know you've got 'em.
In a minor flurry of rebellion, I went out and got a little one, recently. My parents were vaguely annoyed, but I actually didn't get the gut-wrenching reaction I had originally hoped for. Obviously I need a large snake-and-skull combination wrapping around my entire arm. So, if you have a tattoo, post a picture of it. I will post a picture of mine ASAP, as soon as it looks a bit prettier (it's breaking out because I'm putting so much lotion on it). |
Sorry Blue... I don't have any. I am actually kinda disgusted by tattoos. I mean, some of them look really good, while others I think, don't fit the person. I guess it all depends on perspective. I do know lots of people who have tattoos however, some good, some ok, and some not so good. I find the most famous types are dragons and Chinese/Japanese characters.
|
Unlike Vivi, I love tats. The only tattoo I have presently, unfortunately:
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...ket/Tattoo.jpg Percival from Sinfest. It has personal sentiment LOADED into it. It was also an 18th birthday present from my girlfriends. Located on the middle of my right upper-arm. (It's totally true that if you pick the scab after you get the tattoo, the ink comes out. You can see some spots where I tested the theory. Cry.) I plan on getting more (believe me). I want a tattoo of three bumblebees on my shoulder, buzzing around - ALSO loaded with double sentiment. I just can't find a good artist to draw what I want. ;_; |
I don't have, or have any desire for tattoos. My body might not have been made 1000% perfect, but I don't think injecting ink into my skin is going to make me a better person so...
|
I'm planning on getting a tattoo of an alto clef sometime at the end of this year, so whenever that happens I'll post a pic of it.
Nothing special, but it's the only thing I'll feel comfortable having on my body the rest of my life. |
Sass: I like it!!!
And wow, nice to know that picking at the scab really does that. I've been extremely careful with mine, because I don't really want to have to go back and get it fixed... If that's even possible. When you get more, you must let us know! And hmm, that's a nice way to celebrate your 18th birthday. I think my parents woulda killed me back then. Mine is also loaded with sentiment. Sort of. I got it on my ex's birthday because I know he HATES tattoos, and I'm trying very hard to get over him (he got over me ages ago, and we never speak). I'd been doodling a lot around that time (a few weeks ago?), and what came up most were little pictures of birds with the words "flying after God." So I got a bird. |

EXCUSE ME, MISS. I will NOT defile the symbol of my nationality by branding it on my ass.

Hmm, I've never thought to take any pictures of my tattoos. Good ol' standard prison ink. Next time I get access to a webcam/digital camera I'll take some.
That's good shit Deni. You too Sass, I imagine if lurker ever got one it'd be that too. |
I want to get a tattoo... but I'm scared of needles, as you might be aware, but I'll post it once I get it.
Of course I have to decide on WHAT to get as a Tattoo, and that has ALREADY wasted away many hours (And enough people have convinced me that it won't hurt that bad that I may overcome my fear momentarily at least if I were to get one at some point). Sass: That is an awesome tattoo... maybe you should get a adjoining Pooch to balance it out or something? I dunno. |

Personally, I don't have any tattoos at the moment. I have been tossing around some designs but I'm too broke for that shit :( |

Not to mention you have to sit very still when the artist is working on you. It's hard at first since the buzzing (more than the needle really) scares you. I am TERRIFIED of needles, I might add - but with a tattoo, you can't even really SEE it. It's just the buzzing of the gun. It bleeds a little, but its really no big deal. I was really scared, but it turned out to be kind of enjoyable. Of course, my huge arms are not exactly prone to pain, so there's that. Your miles may vary. I went with a friend of mine who is notoriously afraid of pain. When she turned 18, she went right out to get the Aerosmith emblem tattooed on her lower back. She COULD NOT stop moving when the gun hit - the artist fucked up several times and practically kicked her out. I had to sit there and try to calm her. =/ But really, it's NOT that bad. Maybe try a tiny little something before commiting to some larger. Quote:

Ya, where the tattoo hits is all important. My tat was done in about 15 minutes because the dude could do almost full outlines in one long line, because I have a high pain tolerance... but the shading on the "h" closest to my inner elbow hurt like all fucking hell. A lot of nerves exposed there.
|
I would NEVER get a tattoo on my inner elbow. The samurai I have just below is close e-fuckng-nough. When I was little I'd freak out when I'd have to get blood drawn there.

My original plan was for full sleeves. Really just my right arm though, I wanted to cover it completely (with some skillful avoidance of the above-mentioned area) and, when done, have my right arm almost look like an attachment to my body since the rest of me would be plain... In this country though people just freak out seeing the few tattoos I do have exposed when they see me on the street. These people are behind like hell and the only people that do seem to have them are gangbangers, vicious ones like MS13, nine times out of ten.
If I end up staying here I'll probably get a nice piece on my back. I also want one that'll start at my shoulder cap and stretch down to partially cover my chest. Need to find some decent art though. And to think, not long ago, even when I joined this board, I was firmly against the damned things. |

I'm definitely a huge wuss when it comes to pain, and I handled it quite well--didn't cry or anything. I mean, I flinched and stuff, but it REALLY wasn't that bad, and it took about 5 minutes.
|
I think piercings are about ten years away from me even trying that route, if ever. I don't know about leg tattoos, either. That shit has to be done right or else you look stupid wearing shorts. Guy at UPS, where you have to wear those short brown shorts, looked like a jackass with his leg flame tattoos. Full color.
Double Post: Where's your bird tattoo blue? And the guys at the parlor told you how and what to take care of it with, right? |

I'm also working on full sleeves and have my left and right forearms partially done. I also have 2 tats on my shoulder blades as well as one on the back of my neck. I also have 1 tat on my left upper arm ( bicep area ) and 2 on my right. Sadly, i don't have any photos of any of my tats besides a ages old picture of my first tat i got up in Seattle back in 01'.
In two weeks i go into to get a partial back tat which is a homage to D.boon which consists of the minutemen anchor symbol and a picture of d.boon on the guitar. I myself tend to stray away from using colors in my tat's and just stick to simple black ink. anyways, here is the pic of my first tat. http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/2...tledjw5.th.jpg |

If he ever gets the tattoo, you gotta take a pic of the two tattoos together. That would be awesome. See I can't even watch people getting injected on TV or something... I have to turn away... but I guess since everyone has said its not that bad, I may be able to convince myself to do it at some point. |

BTW, the reason that I haven't posted a picture of mine yet is that it is strangely attracting zits... I'm not sure why. I was thinking that maybe putting lotion on it 2x per day was contributing to that? I don't have much acne on my back, generally... And certainly not all in one spot.

I have a pelvic tattoo, too. It's only text and it says "Carius mihi et dignius videretur tua dici meretrix quam illius imperatrix." ("It would be dearer and more honorable to me to be called your whore than to be the empress of the whole world", something that Peter Abelard's mistress wrote to him in the 12th century.) I got it in the throes of despairing about some things as a stupid "reclaiming my body" gesture, which is all very dumb and new-age. But even with those connotations discarded, I really like it; it skirts the line between classy and trashy. No pictures of it though. ;__;
It's pretty big, but getting it wasn't THAT bad. I've voluntarily subjected myself to things that hurt worse. The only REALLY unpleasant parts were right on my hip bones. It felt like the tattoo needle buzzing was reverberating through my whole body, and it made me cry ;__; and it was off-putting enough to make me reconsider my plan to get more text on my collarbones. |
My big brother has tattoos galore - each one usually representing something special and meaningful in his life thats happened (IE his first daughters nickname, the special forces branch that he served with in the military, his platoon nickname and symbol when he was in kuwait etc etc etc). Now that he's a firefighter he wants to get something that represents his firehouse. Hopefully I'll have moved to New Jersey if my masters plans go right and I'd like to get one too. He said he knew of a friend who could probably do us both a really good one at around the same time. It'd be my first (and probably only) tat, so I really want it to be something special.
If you'd asked me this a few years ago I'd have sworn up and down that I'd never even think of getting one. But now...I dunno. Guess my outlook has changed since I'm older and more grown up. Still seems like such an out of character thing for me to do, but ah well! Can't think of what I'd want it to be though, which is odd because I'm usually brimming over with ideas... |

I don't have any tattoos myself. I'm getting one when I graduate from high school...
However, in the mean time, I am a tattoo artist. My current project: my stepfather's next wrist band (working on a celtic and a gothic version presently)... My last rough draft of a tattoo was a "Morte Prima Di Dosonore" (Death Before Dishounor) with a sword through a heart, an eagle, and the letters on a banner. After my stepfather chooses which band he wants finalized, I'll finish this... |
Ok ok, are ya ready???
It's very small and simple; remember, I'm an sXe kid... Spoiler:
|
Um... Blue, are you aware that you basically have the dove of peace, popular symbol of the born again christian movement, tattooed on your shoulder?
|
I'm aware. Not sure why it has to be a dove, exactly... People have said that, though. One day I might get it filled in blue. It being a dove doesn't bother me, though. It's also a symbol of love, I think.

I've considered getting a tattoo on various occasions, though A) I have no idea what and B) no idea where. Plus I'm scared I might end up permanently having a symbol adorned to my skin that I would eventually grow tired of. I'd very much like to get a pop culture or video game related tattoo sometime though, provided I can come up with something that would remain timeless to me.

The original idea actually came from a doodle of a bluebird with the words "flying after God" written over it. I'm looking for Him... Where did He go? So see, it works. |
Hey, that's good then. As long as there's something there for you to connect with. I wasn't saying anything against the church though in that sense. I'm a standard Christian... Even if it baffles most of the Catholics/Evangelicals in this country.
I knew a guy that didn't really give a damn about tattoo significance. The last thing I saw him get was some sort of creature (if you've played FFVII, it looked a lot like the little guy that hopped around his horsish thing in the area in the crater that also had the potions) vomiting leaves. |
I've always been kind of enamored with the idea of a tattoo, more than the reality of it. I like symbolism, and the idea of a reminder, like something you can always use to ground yourself.
I've toyed with the notion of a basic yin-yang between my shoulderblades, but frankly I don't think I'm quite hipster enough to carry it off. It's pretty clear to anyone that hears me speak for more than 20 seconds that I'm a nerd. About how much would something basic like that run me? |
Just a reminder to Deni. You gotta post pics of the sleeves when their done, or atleast pretty far along. I love looking at the art.

Quote:

Depends on if it's colored or not, Skex. Of course, also the size and detail of it. But your basic yin-yang I'd imagine would cost you 100-150? Of course prices in Vegas were always inflated so it might be less in your area.
In prison? Ten bucks. =O |

Posted this a while back in the What's Your Sign? thread. My tat, located on my right pec.
|
Wait, a pelvic tattoo is on the pelvis, am I right?
So what does a penis have to do with it? Certainly the tattoo is visible without showing a penis. As for me, I have a tattoo, one of those trendy, new-age Japanese symbols. I did it, actually, because I like Japanese. Now that I've taken Japanese, I realize it's actually COMPLETELY INCORRECT which means that I've failed as a person. Oh, well, live life and learn. |
Jamma, Libra huh? I was thinking of getting a tattoo with my two signs (Chinese and Western) with, somehow, my two elementals. I was thinking of a badass rooster (Chinese Zodiac animal) in metal Samurai armor (Chinese element) with maybe the Libra sign stamped on the chest plate. Not sure how to incorporate wind into that effectively though.
Harder yet is finding someone to draw that shit up for me. |

Actually, I was born in September. Username is actually another way of saying October 15th.
I've thought about tattoos like that. For Star Wars, FFVII, maybe even LOTR. It's just hard to pull off without looking like a geek. |

It's in the middle of my back. It's my first and only one, and -- I will admit it -- it hurt like a bitch since it's black and directly over my spine.
As for the symbol itself . . . it's a long story. |
What is it, Egyptian? I can see why it hurt, it probably touched your spine and bolding something like that in takes time.
|
Greek symbol for Omega. Looks pretty good.
|
Thanks! Yeah, it's Omega. Things ending and whatnot.
Oh, and the red marks in the picture are from a Sharpie. I'd just taken the bandage off for the first time. |
I've been thinking about getting a blue Slime from Dragon Warrior/Quest for a while now (on my back somewhere), but I'm too much of a sissy bitch to go through with it. :(
|
I should be ashamed of myself for not knowing that. The Omicron should be ripped from my name.

Always beware the woman who tries to convince you to go under a needle upon first meeting. It leads to many places, none of them good. Well, none of them safe, at any rate. That being said, if you get one, you'll wind up with several. The endrophins aside, the first time you take off a piece of clothing and catch a glimpse of your body art in the mirror, you'll want more. That never goes away. |
Oh Denicalis, you saw right through me, you rascal.
But seriously, they are quite fun once you've actually gotten through the first one. |
Really? I had no issues with the first one. I actually really enjoyed it. The artist was doing long lines, basically sped through some black filled script on my upper back. He did the whole thing in about twenty minutes. The ache was fantastic. It's almost hypnotic.
|
Heh, I have issues with my back so it was a pretty weird experience getting my spine and both shoulder blades done. Granted, it's not a huge ink, but the only parts that didn't hurt were the two little patches of skin between the bone. And with black, as you probably know, you just have to go over it and over it and over it . . .
So of course I'm completely in love with solid black tattoos, and will only get those. I shrug. |
Quote:
|
I have to agree on the solid black tattoos. Cant speak from any experience, but If I got one I would only have black. The color seems unnatural (if that makes any sense), and kindy jokey. I also heard it needs to be touched up more often if it has color.
|
If I were to go through with it, what part of the back would be a good place to put it that doesn't hurt as much? I was thinking about between my shoulder blades, but apparently it hurts worse there because of the spine.
|
I'd love to hear the story behind the omega, Harlot. Tattoo stories are always pretty interesting.
|
I would just like to say that it's amusing to see people casually addressing someone as "Harlot."
Y'know, I thought about getting my lip pierced, until my brother pointed out that doing this would drastically shrink my pool of eligible boyfriends. I realized, with much sadness, that he was right. Maybe this should be a piercing thread, too? |
Lip piercings are really cool, but only on certain people. Same goes for basically all piercings. If you really want to get it, you may as well go ahead and try it. It's not permanent, like a tattoo, anyway.
|
Piercings are so fucked up, in that they change how they look with every person. Some people can pull a labret piercing no problem, and others just look trashy with it. You never know until you see it on the body, really.
Quote:
|
I agree with Deni here. I figure that if im gonna get a permanent addition to my body in one specific place Im not gonna comprimise where due to pain.
Think of the pain as a bonding experience with your new art. |
Exactly. The pain lasts nothing compared to the end result. One day I'll get something on my upper back, covering the entire shoulder blade area. I think the best thing there would be something that's symetrical though. Not just anything. It's one cool place for Mexican's to put their Aztec Calendar since it's circular.
Hmm, Harlot. Don't think I've ever not wanted to go after a girl just because of a pierced lip. I think a pierced tongue's worse than that as far as my perception on trashy goes. The one thing I can't stand are pierced nipples. |
Bump!
So i've been considering for quite a few months about getting a tattoo. I want it to be a dragon, i've always had a thing for dragons. So at first I wanted just a simple tribal design type, and I wanted to draw it myself so I could make sure it's absolutely PERFECT and customised to my liking. Here's how the design has developed over the past year: http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...a/IMG_0447.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...a/IMG_1921.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...a/IMG_1930.jpg After re-designing it for so long and looking at it for that amount of time I just couldn't seem to be fully happy with it. Then my friend got a detailed dragon tattoo, which just inspired me to scrap the tribal look and go for a more detailed approach. So now, my design currently looks like this: http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...a/IMG_2823.jpg It's a first sketch of it, but i'm really pleased with it so far. I've always loved angel wings, whenever I drew people i'd stick a pair of angel wings on them for some stupid reason. So now i'm extremely happy how i've got the kind of strong metallic look of a dragon wing as well as the feathers. And yes, I used the FFX Bahamut art as a guide. I want the tattoo to be placed on my right shoulder, the edge of the longest tip of wing to trace along the shoulder blade and the body would just reach the part before my spine. It's gonna hurt, and it's gonna take a while since i'm going with a shaded design, but hopefully it'll look good. Here is a tattoo i've designed for my best friend, who is actually going out and getting it in the very near future. Seeing my design on someone is going to be such a huge honour, and also quite strange! http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...a/IMG_2801.jpg |
Wow, those are really good.
I like the tribal design only because really detailed tattoos usually look too busy. |
You know, I really need a tattoo or something. I'm so completely white bread in appearance and I just don't feel or act that way. My girlfriend fears that I'm gonna hit age 35 and go on some massive rebellious spree because I never did anything crazy in my young age.
It's just that damn permanence thing. I absolutely can't figure out what I want to get branded on me for the rest of my life. And no, I won't get a Stewie tattooed on me. Cartoon characters seem completely cliche. Anyone got any ideas? :P And yes, I DO want one. I'm not on the fence about it. If I knew exactly what to get I sure as hell would do it. |
Well, I'm here and living in New Jersey. I saw this thread notified and bumped in the control panel and had almost forgotten about my promise to myself to someday get a tat while I'm up here. I have plenty of time to talk with my brother about something (given his tats I know he's got tons of good people I can go to to get one) but I still dunno what I wanna get, if anything. Maybe I'll jot some designs out in my spare time... **shrugs**
|
I got this not too long ago. I like it, but it's on the side of the ankle that I don't look at too often. Oh well.
http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/c...3/DSCF0770.jpg |
I'm with SuperNova on the tatt thing. I would like one, but I have yet to think of a really good design with meaning and whatnot. I'm not squeamish, and have a pretty high pain tolerance, but it's though trying to think of the what and where.
Dunno; I'm lucky that I have a bit of artistic talent, so I definitely want to design my own tattoo, maybe of some animal, place, or phrase/words~. |
My Fiance and I are thinking about getting one each but the biggest concern I have is in terms of my tolerance toward pain.
I truly don't know what I'm capable of in terms of the pain that comes with getting a tattoo. I've talked to quite a few people about it and it a lot of people say thats its not painful as long as the tattoo is done where there is some muscle or mass on your body. They tell me the most painful area to get a tattoo is that anything that involves bone. I'm just thinking of getting the kanji symbol for Angel on my upper right arm. Its just a name that my first girlfriend use to call me and its kind of stuck on me ever since. I know when I eventually get a tattoo its what I really want. I probably going to go ahead with it when I get home full time. |
Next spring I'll be starting with the tattoos. My best friend and I are getting matching ones of "TFU" but we're not sure where yet. It's half-homage to Simon Pegg/Nick Frost and half-homage to our 9 year long friendship.
Is it possible to ink over scars? I've got a couple of rather nasty ones that look to be permanent and I really want them covered. |
