The Official Eurovision Song Contest Thread

[22:03] <Q-chan> Are you going to make a Eurovision thread? =D

Official Eurovision Homepage!!

So here's the place to discuss anything Eurovision-Song-Contest-retardedrelated.

Also, there will be a Eurovision Song Contest Party in #gfchat this year! Further info will be announced soon =^.^=

Kolba Mar 10, 2006 05:22 PM

I'm getting in here right proper swift like, and planting this link to DJ Daz with his song for the UK, as an early seed that will have time to grow and flourish in your brain from now until Eurovision. By the time May 20 comes around it'll seem like there was never even an option not to vote UK.

http://www.dazsampson.co.uk/

British Chris Mar 10, 2006 06:42 PM

God bless eurovision and the blatent tactical voting that goes on year after year. My main man, good old Terry Wogan can predict the results of key countries a mile off! it's hilarious!

Why Am I Allowed to Have Gray Paint Mar 10, 2006 09:01 PM

You can be sure that we'll not win it this tme either. We already stooped to the level of allowing page 3 girl Jordan get close to being our entrant last year >_<. I watch it to see the clips of the host country inbetween songs, or admire just how much clothing the entrants are willing to shed in order to cock-tease the judges into voting for them.

Kolba Mar 10, 2006 10:16 PM

Well our man performs his song with 4 girls dressed in school uniforms, so I wouldn't write us off just yet.

Yeah, well, I guess we can all expect the same procedure again: All east european countries will vote for each other again; so I'm not exactly sure whether it will be interesting (more liek' no) or not. Let's see :)

map car man words telling me to do things Mar 12, 2006 03:07 PM

But this year Lordi is representing Finland.

You know it will be the most awesome Eurovision ever. The only bad thing is now I'll have to watch it =x

Sal Mar 12, 2006 10:52 PM

I'm finding the UK a worrying place at the moment....

The same weekend Gary 'Kid Fiddler' Glitter gets put away for child molestation, the public vote for some dodgy middle-aged geezer with a load of teenage school girl backing singers. Not only that but Chico 'slight undertones of Michael Jackson' gets into number 1 in the charts.

Pity vote is all I can say. The song that DJ Daz has if fucking painful to listen to.

It will not.
It is exactly like you said.
The east block will vote for each other, the west will vote for whoever (escept Germany, swiss and austria will give each other mediocre to good votes) and once again some east block country wins.

OmagnusPrime Mar 13, 2006 07:21 AM

With the UK having possibly the worst act in years how can we fail to win (oh well, apart from the fact that tactical voting by certain countries never goes our way because they all hate us). Bring it on.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Mar 14, 2006 04:01 AM

DJ Daz is fucking terrible but it is the kind of shit that gets voted for at Eurovision, I reckon we've got a chance this year.

I love how everyone in England puts down Eurovision yet almost every British member here has posted in this thread already, we secretly all love it.

Also, why the new name, sin?

Put Balls Mar 14, 2006 04:04 AM

Lordi ftw.

I think they should better be dealing a controversy award too this year.

Didn't like the old name.

I know what you mean about DJ Daz. A shit song is not necessarily a shit Eurovision song. It has something anthemic to it which might catch on.

Eurovision is great why lie.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Mar 14, 2006 08:46 AM

This week's popbitch will doubtless be full of links to unfortunate pornos most of the acts were in durign previous careers, they do that pretty much every year. I'll post whatever links there are on thursday for those of you who don't subscribe.

Kolba Mar 14, 2006 10:27 AM

That should keep the thread going for 2 months.

map car man words telling me to do things Mar 14, 2006 10:29 AM

If they have any on Lordi, be sure to mark them with a fair warning~

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Mar 14, 2006 02:41 PM

The BBC site has snippets of all the songs England could have had...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/eurovisi...testants.shtml

Not technically Eurovision but still Euro-tastic!

Epic success

My_Lo Mar 16, 2006 03:22 PM

This year: Kate Ryan...
Personally I don't like neither the woman, neither the song...

But it's normal it's for the eurosong festival and I don't remember ever have liked any of our songs...

Anyway, it'll be fun and the party at gfchat is a super-idea, I'll be there ^_-

Angel Mar 16, 2006 03:23 PM

Wahaaaa... That Lordi of Finland looks like something. I guess that this year I'm definitly going to watch...

Mucknuggle Mar 16, 2006 03:58 PM

WTF - Is that shit by Gunther actually popular?

Can somebody please tell me why Hungary is not participating?

Musharraf Mar 16, 2006 04:09 PM

Only the 16 or 18 best countries from the last Eurovision are allowed to participate. Plus those four countries that pay the most money including shitty countries like Germany and the UK.

Musharraf May 17, 2006 01:29 AM

Only 3 days left, I am so excited (j/k)

el jacko May 17, 2006 01:56 AM

Poked around the official site, and now I'm listening to some of the samples. Some of these entries are quite hilarious! Moldova's song in particular does not make any sense considering the region. I didn't even know Belarus could enter.

But why aren't there any good songs? The closest I ever got to liking one was for Bulgaria and France, and even then I'm not sure based on the samples.

Musharraf May 17, 2006 02:02 AM

map car man words telling me to do things May 18, 2006 03:08 PM

I've got my TV on and my headphones plugged in, but they're not on my head, so I'm luckily hearing none of these awful songs.

Watching the show without sound, reading the subtitled lyrics occasionally (yes, they're subtitling the lyrics =x) makes it all seem even more camp. The dance choreography is hilariously embarrassing in pantomime.

One more performance before Lordi invades Greece~

Krelian May 18, 2006 03:23 PM

GO LORDI. If they win, I swear it's gonna be the best year EVER.

randomwab May 18, 2006 03:32 PM

I was just called to the living room to see Lordi by my parents who were having a good laugh about them, but think they should win as they are better than most acts there :D

map car man words telling me to do things May 18, 2006 03:49 PM

I'm beginning to think Andorra is going to get voted a winner just so they get those "dancers" on stage for an encore.

Anyone who missed seeing Lordi, watch their number here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGvB6jBxC0s

Kolba May 20, 2006 07:08 AM

Didn't watch the semi-final, but from the looks of it most of the more enjoyable songs from that samples link on page 1 got knocked out. Oh well, it is further assurance my loyalties won't be conflicting on the night - Go DJ Daz!

seanne May 20, 2006 04:21 PM

Haha, looks like Lordi is going to take home the whole thing =D

map car man words telling me to do things May 20, 2006 04:28 PM

I can't believe we are doing so well. Finland's never had this much points =o

Aardark May 20, 2006 04:29 PM

Will Lithuania win, who knows

They should, tho

Musharraf May 20, 2006 04:37 PM

Well I don't think that Lordi was bad, but uhh if they win that would be a scandal or something like that (?)

Zip May 20, 2006 04:42 PM

they are winning only because they are diffrent, this shit has gotten retarded no one takes it seriously anymore.
CAROLA >:((((((

seanne May 20, 2006 04:45 PM

It's pretty much all over now, Lordi being up 50+ points. I guess this is what happens when you have a contestant which doesn't give people the exact same song and stageshow as the rest of the ones.

map car man words telling me to do things May 20, 2006 04:49 PM

As delirious I am that Lordi is leading, especially because of how many people said it can't be done, but everyone is going to hate them now when they win.
We'll be forced to host it all next year which is going to suck big time, plus we all know Finland can't repeat the success :tpg:

EDIT:
Ahaha, I can't believe we broke the point record. Most points for any country~

Musharraf May 20, 2006 04:54 PM

They cannot be passed anymore, congrats Lordi :)

I think this is pretty much an éclat, but hey, that's what makes Eurovision great.

Put Balls May 20, 2006 04:55 PM

WTF.

Seriously, though, folks. \o/

Musharraf May 20, 2006 04:57 PM

I will turn off the TV now, what is this shit....

People took the Eurovision contest seriously?

Well done Finland. Good to see the UK did better than the previous years, I still dont see why the hell we dont just pull out of the whole thing.

Zip May 20, 2006 05:05 PM

UK was horrible, 4 real what was that shit.

Musharraf May 20, 2006 05:06 PM

Well come on, it's not like Eurovision has always been that bad

Because they need our money. Simply.

Anyways, who takes Eurovision seriously? Man, the only reason I watched it was for a good laugh, and it didn't disappoint, and neither did Mr Wogan.

seanne May 20, 2006 05:12 PM

I like how it seems that people are suprised by this outcome. What we had here was 21 x the same boring ass, unbearably bad shit as always and Lordi. Of course people were going to vote like crazy for them.

Hopefully this will bring about some real change as far as the contestants and the songs go in the future.

Musharraf May 20, 2006 05:16 PM

Yes uhh I am surprised. I thought that Lordi was fun and all, but uhh I wonder never ever thought that people would be that ignorant. There were some very good songs like the one from Lithuania and the "there's always the same" argument is pretty weak in my opinion because there WAS quite a lot of variety this time.

OmagnusPrime May 20, 2006 05:17 PM

Don't be daft. Next year it will be, once again, 24 x (Power ballads + Eurobeat).

Carola did a mistake by singing in english, her song was better in swedish.

map car man words telling me to do things May 20, 2006 05:23 PM

What the hell are you talking about, the Lithuanian one was awful.
"hrhr, we are being really clever and knowing wink at the camera, too bad we didn't try REVERSE psychology hr"

I'm surprise they got so many points as they did. There were a few decent songs there, but overal it was as bad as usual.

Musharraf May 20, 2006 05:24 PM

The Lithuanian song should have won >=/

I think it would have been as shit in Swedish as it was in English.

Who the hell what that guy from the Netherlands that gave the votes. Was he some kind of famous comedian (and I use the term comedian loosely) over there or what?

Musharraf May 20, 2006 05:25 PM

He was drunk, obv. But that guy from Poland was so fucking awesome. What a serious emo lamer who's wearing two pairs of socks in winter and then this "12 points go to... Poland" joke which was hitting everyone like a nuclear bomb.

map car man words telling me to do things May 20, 2006 05:28 PM

I thought the Poland guy was awesome. He looked so hilarious fed up with what he was supposed to be doing :tpg:

Boo-kun May 20, 2006 05:29 PM

And then god made a Finn and laughed at the rest of them ^^

Zip May 20, 2006 05:32 PM

She could have fooled some people that way I guess. Isn't there a rule that says that you have to sing in English though?

GO FINLAND!
They were amazing! i only listened to 3 acts, UK, Finland and Ireland, simply because we were having a party at tehs same time, but yeah.
The voting worked better this year with the rushing of the first 7 then focusing on the final 3 brackets, kept things moving smoothly.
and the UK act was shit, he was a pedo i'm sure of it, i'm sad we as a nation voted such crap into the contest...

Seconded. I honestly do not remember a thing about the night's entertainment apart from Lithuania and of course the winner, Lordi. Perhaps that is down to alcohol intake on my part but honestly, the songs this year were really dire in comparison to previous years.

However, congratulations Gwar.. sorry, Lordi.

Singing in English wouldn't have helped that song. It was dull, dull and dull with extra lashings of dull.

Boo hoo i wanted Ukraine to win. I thought the song was funky lol. I've had it on repeat all day.

I hated the UK act. I hated it from the start.

I think that's why they won ;). Yeah it's good to see something a bit different win instead of the general crap that appears. It would've been wicked if Nightwish represented Finland like they were going to one year.
