Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1.../objection.png

This is a thread about Phoenix Wright:AA, a port of Gyakuten Saiban (Japanese series name). I suppose it could serve as a catchall thread for stuff about the others if needed.

I have a serious inquiry though. I've gotten the game and played it all the way through, but after Capcom stopped production of it I have a few friends who would like to get it but not pay a million bucks on eBay for it.

The guys at NCSX are saying there's another production of it slated for late March, but does anybody out there know if there's some truth to this?

Kaleb.G Mar 2, 2006 03:49 PM

Gyakuten Saiban 3 was the last title for GBA. Did you even read the wiki you linked to? :tpg:

Anyway, I've been wanting to buy this game new, but I can't find it anywhere. :(

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is a port of GS with an added case at the end.

The music quality has also been upped a little, too. Other than that, no real differences.

EDIT: My pardons for getting series numbers mixed up.

EDIT2: Good luck finding it ANYWHERE outside of eBay. I've tried and it's near impossible.

Xardion Mar 2, 2006 04:11 PM

I still haven't been able to get it, so I really hope this is true. If it isn't, I'll have to steal yours, Tails. And get my tv back while I'm at it.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Mar 2, 2006 04:41 PM

Dunno about there being a new production of the game, but I do know Capcom's releasing a bunch of new cases on cell phones.

Elixir Mar 2, 2006 04:43 PM

Since the previous Phoenix Wright thread which I made shortly after Tails is destined to be deleted, I'll ask this here.

I don't actually have Phoenix Wright yet. It hasn't been released outside of the J/A area and from what I'm hearing it's already rare. Why did Capcom make so few copies in america? For a game which is in short supply, it sure is getting a large amount of attention.

I'm not really happy about paying $40 US for a game which felt as if it became rare the day it was released. I've played the translated version of 3's first session, and while it was rather fun, it took me countless tries to figure it out.

WraithTwo Mar 2, 2006 06:03 PM

Yes, a local game store informed me in early-mid January (can't remember when) that they are doing another run of the game for American release due in March. Good news for me, because by the time I decided that I had to own a copy of the game, it had become excessively rare.

surasshu Mar 2, 2006 06:16 PM

Ooh, does that mean my collector's edition limited box thingie with Manga comic is now extra valuable?

Is this confirmed? I don't trust game stores and their idiotic advice. Like the time I asked if Juiced was coming out for xbox, and they said it's going to be a Gamecube game. God.

If the game doesn't change in any shape or form for the european release, I'll purchase that. If there's anything missing, well, I'll probably need to import from america. Normally I'd import from japan but there's hardly any point as this game is pretty much consumed by text.

surasshu, I'm interested in seeing that manga. Could you upload some pictures of it?

This is an independant game store whos manager is a friend of mine, and I trust the information. The local game stop (in which ANOTHER friend of mine works) has recieved the same information as well.

Showed it to Tails last week, but I thought it deserves to be placed here (And probably in other Thompson hate threads):

---->http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...7087586180.png

Found it on my SK boards, temporarily using it as an avatar/sig. :D

Rockgamer Mar 2, 2006 07:13 PM

I read somewhere (I think IGN) that the game sold better than Capcom thought it would, so they are making another production run. I don't see the problem though, as it seems like every Gamestop I go to in town still has new copies.

Neogin Mar 2, 2006 07:49 PM

Wow, I must have been lucky enough to buy one. Gotta thank a buddy of mine for that. There's alot of demand for the game, though. I'm surprised Capcom didn't ship more..

Chaotic Mar 2, 2006 08:16 PM

It upsets me that Trauma Center did better than this game... I was one who actually picked up both. <_<

But let's hope that there is some truth to the release of another Phoenix Wright game. I've been in a depression ever since I got done with the game and the fan translation of GS3.

randomwab Mar 5, 2006 12:43 PM

I do believe it is yet to come out in the UK so I will pick mine up immediatly to make sure i get it

I was more surprised that Trauma Center is still in production. When the two first came out everyone was saying Trauma Center was the game to get since it would go out of print super fast, and Phoenix Wright would be here to stay. I guess people like killing patients more than yelling "OBJECTION!"

And there is your reason.

TCK Mar 6, 2006 06:13 PM

If there are no new US copies being made, be assured that it's being released in Europe this month. Funnily enough, for more than I paid for it (I managed to snag it for £20 :D).

HylianLink Mar 6, 2006 08:16 PM

glad my brother got this when he did, anyone have a link for that fan translation mentioned in the thread?

CHz and I tried to order copies from some internet merchant, but it didn't work :(

I wonder if our order was actually cancelled with them.

CloudNine Mar 8, 2006 11:53 PM

I searched GameStop.com to see if there were any nearby copies and there was only one within a 200 mile area. I called and it had been sold earlier that day. :(
I am really eager to play this game after hearing how awesome everyone says it is. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to pay through the nose on ebay.

Nekobo Mar 9, 2006 02:54 AM

This stuff is old, but still fun for those who haven't tried it out yet.

I believe the japanese version has a full english translation, you can choose between the two languages at the title screen. Not positive, but almost.

WraithTwo Mar 9, 2006 09:58 PM

Yeah, the Japanese version has english an English translation.

- WraithTwo -

Xardion Mar 10, 2006 03:46 AM

If the jap version has English already in it, I should import it for nerd points.

CloudNine Mar 10, 2006 02:21 PM

If I wanted to import a japanese copy, would it cost me less than 50 dollars like one on ebay will?

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Mar 10, 2006 02:53 PM

Probably not. After the shipping from Play-Asia, it would run you about the same amount, possibly a little more.

Tails Mar 10, 2006 03:35 PM

Depends on if you want to wait a little bit. EMS (3-4 days usually) costs around $10-15 dollars usually, but the other delivery methods aren't as much.

Double Post:
Also, apparenrly Phoenix Wright 2 and 3 are coming to the PC.

Can anybody here read French?

I wonder if it comes with an English translation option like the DS version of Ace Attorney did.

I can speak some French, so I'll try it out. It's got some mistakes, but you get the basic idea:

For fans of the lawyer Phoenix Wright: on March 31st, Gyakuten Saiban 2 and 3 are being released for the PC, three months after the first remake. The two games will each cost 2970 yen, a fairly high price considering they're ports of Gameboy Advance games. The site(?) Sourcenext has said that there will be a pack of all three games, for 6980 yen. We still don't have information on whether the series will continue on DS, after the critical success of the first remake. (I think it's "critical success", but it seems like a negative connotation for some reason).

The new production of the USA version of Phoenix Wright has shipped from Capcom and NCS expects to restock the game on Monday (March 13, 2006). We will process and dispatch all backorders once the game arrives and new orders are welcome. Please note that the price being charged from suppliers is slightly higher than the original shipment. As such, the price is now US$35. If you have already placed a backorder for the game at the original price of US$30, NCS will honor your preorder at US$30. Thanks for reading.

Is this a reprint? Months after it should have been done? At a higher price? Because that sounds like a typical Capcom type move. Or is this a MYSTERY?

PGC was as excited as anyone when we heard such reports, and so we went right to the source, hoping to make sure the claim was true. A Capcom representative told us, though, that the game isn’t even sold out, and thus, would not receive a re-release.

So what can you do if your local retailer doesn’t have a copy? Pester them until they reorder, says Capcom.

Gechmir Mar 13, 2006 12:17 PM

Mother. Fuckers.

I blew $60 just a month ago for my copy and the box looks like shit... >_< **sigh** Capcom, you piss me off yet again.

At least this'll up the odds of future ones coming out here.

Only plus is that I have the original box and art. But the plastic cover has gunk all over it. Time for a switcharoo on boxes! LOLOLOL.

I doubt I'll get $60 for it though... ;_;

Gamespot posted an article about this too.

Phoenix Wright ordered back in stores
Hard-to-find courtroom DS game being restocked in retail; Capcom says decision was made based on "demand."

Gamers and lawyers don't always have the best relationships. However, one barrister appears to have won the affection of DS owners enough to see him get a second chance in stores. Capcom's Phoenix Wright enjoyed a short stint in retail before its stock ran low and its supply wasn't replenished. Some gamers screamed "objection!" at the lack of copies of the game, which was first released on the DS in October.

Supply and demand can do tricky things to a game's price, and soon the game began appearing on online auction sites with a price tag nearly triple the $29.99 SRP.

Much to the chagrin of secondhand retailers, Capcom has responded to gamers' appeals and decided to bring Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney back to stores. A Capcom representative today told GameSpot that the company is shipping more units and that gamers "interested in purchasing a copy should check with their store," implying that Internet reports that the game is now back in stores are true.

As of press time, online retailers EBgames.com and GameStop.com did not have the game in stock. However, some forum posters have claimed to see the game in stores again as well as on online retail site NCS for $35.

In Phoenix Wright, gamers investigate crime scenes and defend clients in the courtroom. For more information on the T-for-Teen-rated game, read GameSpot's verdict.

I like how Capcom listened to fan emails for once.

Little Shithead Mar 14, 2006 06:37 PM

OH SHIT.

If I can't find Wario Ware Touched! any time soon, I'm so gonna have to pick up Pheonix Wright then.

It will be mine!

Sarmoti Mar 16, 2006 04:38 PM

I managed to get Trauma Center but failed at getting PW.

Look's like I'ma gonna get my second chance.

Trance Machina Mar 23, 2006 01:05 AM

I sorta wish I didn't borrow it from my friend.

Oh well, I still have case four and five to go through. But at least I could have taken my time on the other cases, I finished them way to quick so says my friend.

The translation of Gyakuten Saiben 3 is great. It's a shame he only did Case 1 so far, but the fact he's working on it alone (or so I read) probably is the reason why he got that far. Can't wait for the other cases though, I really enjoyed the first case. =D

Snowgoose Apr 5, 2006 08:02 AM

Amazon has the PC version of Gyakusai up for order already (but not for foreigners. How I hate that policy) but there's not a word from Capcom about it. Hmmm...different publishers? I would've expected an annoucement on Capcom's site or one of their Gyakusai pages, though...

*is one of those oddballs who would pay to play with a mouse*

Conan-the-3rd Apr 11, 2006 11:58 AM

Oh man, got the EUR version with my DS and Got thruogh Cases 1 and 2 without much trouble.

But oh man, is case 3 some of the funniest crap that I've ever read in a video game.

(Whilst it's not too imporitant, some people might want this covered, It's for case 3: Turnabout Samurai)
Spoiler:
I meen, even Edgeworth doesn't know where he's going, and after Oldbag goes and shouts up the places and the themesong of the Silver Samurai plays and all the sounds are replaced...man, I was on the floor.

Neogin Apr 11, 2006 02:11 PM

Wait until you reach Case 5. It's almost as long as the other four combined, >_<

But still, it was worth it in the end. DAMN, I love the game.

Conan-the-3rd Apr 12, 2006 01:43 AM

But is it funnier than case 3, cause case 3's been friging halerious so far.

randomwab Apr 12, 2006 07:39 AM

Umm, I have laughed a good number of times in Case 5, I think it will rival Case 3 in comedy

Rockgamer Apr 12, 2006 03:59 PM

Case 5 has so many quirky new characters, along with a lot of the older ones, that I thought it supassed case 3 comedy-wise.

Neogin Apr 12, 2006 05:36 PM

The fourth one, in my opinion, has the best storyline. It's outstanding.

HOLD IT! Actually, supposedly it will be a new PW:AA for Cell Phone, NOT a translation. So in other words, we get some Super Mario Bros 2 action going on here again...

And yes, Case 3 was hilarious. I just finished it last night and going on to Case 4.

PW:AA 1/2/3 have already been released on cell phone in Japan for a long time, they divided each case into two or three portions for d/l and each d/l requires you to pay a certain amount... if 2's released on cell here, it'll only be a translation, not a whole new game, Capcom doesn't have the money to create something new, if they do, the money would go into PW:AA 4 for DS.

Rockgamer Apr 21, 2006 01:21 AM

I was browsing through some gaming magazine at the store (Tips and Tricks, I think), and it said something about releasing four packs of four cases (or something like that), followed by a new case every month. Of course, I think this whole thing sucks, and would rather have them release 2 and 3 for the GBA here instead, as no one here plays cell phone games.
