So which system are you getting?

Just a little survey out of curiosity. As I mentioned before, I already have the PS3 reserved, since I'm more interested in seeing what it has to offer first, and then I'll be purchasing the Wii either by Christmas or a little bit afterwards (but only if I'm guaranteed a copy of Zelda on the same day). I just want to see what everyone else's plans are for Novemberocalypse.

PS: If you already own a 360, that counts as "getting 360 instead of either one."

sabbey Nov 5, 2006 03:55 AM

If I get any consoles in the next 6 months, it'll most likely be a XBOX 360. However, it could be a Wii, if the price is right...

Can't say I care one way or the other, I normally wait until a console's end life before acquiring them.

Golfdish from Hell Nov 5, 2006 04:02 AM

I'm getting a Wii once the library improves a bit past the launch...Zelda isn't enough to get me to jump, but Smash Brothers and Prime 3 might just be enough. There's no sense in hurrying with more than enough quality PS2/DS games out this season.

PS3...I expect one of these days, it will have something that will make me cough up $600 I don't have to spare, but it won't be this Christmas season. Or the next. 2008 seems unlikely as well, though I suspect some publishers will have cobbled together some nice games by then.

Kairyu Nov 5, 2006 04:07 AM

I'm thinking about picking up the Wii, but only thinking about it. Among all the older gen consoles I already own I also have a 360. And I barely have any time to hop on that so I'm mostly messing around with a nintendo ds or psp. No that its a bad thing!

If I do get a Wii it will probably not happen until I see SSBB on the shelves or whenever I see a large window of free time (haha, yeah ok.) And why am I not interested in the PS3? Well besides its launch title line up its initial pricing just scares the crap out of me. Its kind of the same reason why I never bothered with 3DO.

HyeVltg3 Nov 5, 2006 04:21 AM

playstation-fanboy here.

getting the ps3 first then the Wii :P but both these plans are meant to take action after like 6-8 months after both consoles come out
:D XP

Elixir Nov 5, 2006 04:23 AM

Not getting either; not interested.

Because there's no "Will wait 6 months until there's games/newer models of the consoles" option.

I don't really mind since I have an endless log of games which I need to complete, plus there's enough to keep me occupied on the PS2 and DS for a very long time. At most I'd consider a PS3 possibly around this time next year.

Soldier Nov 5, 2006 04:28 AM

You could use the "No money" option, since that techincally qualifies if you're waiting for a price drop on both systems. Of course, I probably should've included a "Not getting either, waiting for games to expand" option, but I felt that was just going to add a bunch of new uneccessary options.

No, because I have the money to purchase the PS3 or Wii when it's released here. It's just that I possess common sense.

The PS3 isn't out here until March '07, though. Wii hits in December here. I don't see the sense in buying a console's first version, because usually they're the ones which can't be modchipped. Usually they're the ones that have problems, because there's only so much you can get out of beta testing.

It's better to wait until it's been out for awhile, and problems are encountered. Then they'll get on with fixing them, and possibly release an updated version of the console. THEN I'll get one.

Most of all I'd rather wait for an array of games. There's only a couple of launch titles I'd bother with on each console, but that isn't going to keep me entertained for long. No, what I want to see is what both consoles have to offer post-launch.

Domino Nov 5, 2006 07:38 AM

I'll probably wait at least a year until I get my next system, there should be a decent amount of good games for them then.
Which will I get? Well, either, but haven't decided which yet, but I'm leaning towards the Wii.

Omnislash124 Nov 5, 2006 09:14 AM

Based on those choices, it's hard for me to pick. I'd say Wii first and PS3 later, but I can't say for certain that I'll pick it up later. And Later might be a LOT later, since I'm a freshman in College, I don't quite have the time nor the money to buy both anytime soon.

Slayer X Nov 5, 2006 09:21 AM

Well I already have a 360 and I've been saving up for a PS3 since E3 '05 so I've got more then enough for that, actually even enough for me to get a Wii two days after the PS3 launch, though I won't be getting any Wii games at launch though cept maybe Zelda, but that's only because I'll be busy playing Gears of War and the PS3 at that point and won't have too much time for the Wii right away. Plan is though that after Gears there's not much else coming out any time soon for the 360 so that's going to be PS3 & Wii time.

Elixer: I'd think that the PS3 that comes out there will probably be a version 2 model by then, so for you to get one at launch won't be as near as risky as getting one here at launch. As for waiting for more games, that's a good idea because gaming really is about the games, the system is just a means by which you play them... too bad more people didn't realize that. But of course if there's any staple series that you like for a console you know that thoes are always going to be on the same console unless some major shift happens, which won't be any time soon.

Ex. Devil May Cry, MGS, Final Fantasy, etc. Will always be with Sony
Mario, Shams Bros., Metroid, Zelda, etc. Will always be with Nintendo (obviously)
Halo, BioWare games, Forza will always be with Microsoft (that company make godd game, SEIZE THEM!!!) (P.S. and you've got Gears of War coming out in two days, Boo Ya!!!)

Malmer Nov 5, 2006 09:31 AM

The poll options are too lacking and/or specific. I would have voted for "Wii first, 360 later".

The Wii at launch ofcause, because using my common sense, Nintendo hasn't been known to launch beta hardware.
The 360 sometime in 2007, when they release the quieter one with the new CPU. It will become my HD-DVD player too. Damn sweet.

Isn't this the third "what next-gen will you..." thread?

Freelance Nov 5, 2006 10:30 AM

I chose the 'none, not interested' option.

As far as I've seen so far, none of the games offered interest me. The only exceptions are SSBB and that Pokémon Battle Stadium or whatever it's called.

Until I am interested in more games, I will not be purchasing anything.

=+Yuni+= Nov 5, 2006 11:25 AM

Missed my chance for a Wii so I'll just get it later. My father and I are going to get a PS3 and split the cost of the system between us.

Solis Nov 5, 2006 11:34 AM

I'm not getting any of them just yet (not within the next month anyway), but I was planning on getting an Xbox 360 first and then Wii, with a slight possibility of the other way around depending on a few factors, and then the PS3 last. So I wasn't sure which option really fit, but I guess the "360 instead of either one" is moderately close so I picked that.

I really have no idea when I'll be getting any of them though, all depends on how the prices/games/features evolve over time.

Matt Nov 5, 2006 12:06 PM

Unfortunately I don't the $600 to buy a PS3 (or $1500 if I wanted it from eBay).

If anything, I'll probably get an XB360 after its first price drop, like I did with its predecessor. Plus the only PS3 game I want--MGS4--will probably be ported to the system sooner or later anyway.

The Wii I'll get after Metroid 3 drops. I loves me some Metroid.

evilboris Nov 5, 2006 12:48 PM

If I had money, I'd buy a x360 and maybe a Wii. I'm totally not interested in PS3, especially first run defects.

Sin Ansem Nov 5, 2006 01:25 PM

Asked for a Christmas Wii, but gamewise I'm in no rush because the DS is fine for me until Brawl and Galaxy come out.

Ronz Nov 5, 2006 01:27 PM

I already have a 360.

Getting a Wii probably for Christmas, and then i'll have to see what Sony does in the coming years. I'm not willing to spend 600 bucks on a console just to play Metal Gear Solid 4, so there's gonna have to be a lot of other stuff I really want to play to warrant a purchase. Until then, i'll have the Wii and the 360 to keep me entertained.

El Ray Fernando Nov 5, 2006 01:35 PM

I own an Xbox 360 and I am undecided on whether to get a Wii at launch. I had my reservations when I first bought my Xbox 360 having not owned the original Xbox but boy am I glad I did; it just keeps getting better and better.

Quite likely I will wait for both the PS3 and the Wii to be on the market (i.e March in Europe) and decide then to as which system I will choose. Personally I think having all 3 would be pointless as I'd probably play only on 2 of them leaving the other to gather dust, I'm not so much of a gamer as I used to be either.

orion_mk3 Nov 5, 2006 01:45 PM

I'm not forking over for one of them before the price comes down. This is the way I've always worked my console purchases; I didn't buy an NES until 1991, had no SNES until 1997, was PS1-less until 2000, and didn't board the PS2 boat 'til 2004.

Usually I'll just buy one or two games that interest me and mooch off of a friend or family member that has a new system instead, and then buy when the system and its flagship games are more affordable. This is doubly important this time around, when the systems are much more expensive generally speaking.

Gechmir Nov 5, 2006 02:33 PM

By the time I buy the systems, I'll be gainfully employed, and most likely making quite good money. I'm gonna probably save up and just buy all three or some junk. If I were to pass on any of them, it'd be the 360. But there are some games for it I wanna try, still (Dead Rising, future Splinter Cells, etc).

bishop743 Nov 5, 2006 02:42 PM

I'm not so sure I'll be getting either of them at launch. There just aren't enough launch titles that warrant the pricetag of the console, especially when it concerns the PS3. When the times comes though, I will be getting a Wii first, regardless, whether it's at launch or down the road. I probably won't be getting a PS3 until around the time that MGS4 comes out.

I probably will never get a 360.

I'm with this guy. As stupid as it is, the only thing driving me to get an X360 is THE IDOLM@STER and nothing else.

Ok, so there're other games that I want for the system (Chopin's Bell, Blue Dragon, etc.), but IDOLM@STER is the only definite purchase.

Agreed on Idolmaster. But Sneak King also looks interesting, although its on the regular Xbox too.

TheKnightOfNee Nov 5, 2006 04:07 PM

I don't have money for any systems now, so I chose the no money option. I never get systems at launch anyways, because I want to watch out for bugs/technical problems that come with the initial release, and I want to wait for some more games to come out first. And then at that point, a price drop is usually approaching, so I'll wait another couple weeks to save myself some money.

As of right now, the Wii holds more interest in my mind, based on the games announced.

Borg1982 Nov 5, 2006 04:38 PM

Who the hell would vote they have no interest in video games and be at gamingforce???

Sass, duh. But it's still a bit of a dumb option since we're in the General Video Gaming forum.

Anyways, if there was a "Wii first, XBox 360 later" option, that's probably what I'd have picked. This basically sums up my reasoning. And sorry, Sony, the PS2 was too much of a hyped-up disappointment for me to put down $550 for Metal Gear Solid 4.

Wii is a no-brainer, since it's the cheapest and has my three most anticipated titles: Twilight Princess, Heroes and SSBB. Yes, of course I realize that Twilight Princess is on Gamecube, but after Matt Casamassina's impressions, I'm sold on the Wii version:

spoiler'd quote for long:
Twilight Princess may have started as a GameCube title, but it finished a Wii one. There remains this faction of gamers that refuses to accept the possibility. You know who you are. You continue to argue that because the controls were originally designed for the GameCube pad there is no hope for the Wii build. You say that your arms will get tired using the Wii remote. You speak of mirrored worlds and right-handed Link. And you know what? It's all crap. If you have the means to buy Twilight Princess for Wii and you still get it for GameCube, you are a fool. And I state that without meaning to suggest that the GCN iteration is flawed - it isn't. It's an amazing swan song for Nintendo's older system, so if you've got no other option you're still golden. But that said, it's not as good as the Wii incarnation. In fact, were it up to me and not Nintendo (and in my dreams, it is), I'd have scrapped the GCN build altogether, forcing everyone to exclusively buy the Wii version.

As for the 360, it depends on how many of its good games come out for PC. If the number is significant, my money is better spent on PC upgrades and a 360 controller for PC.

The Wise Vivi Nov 5, 2006 06:54 PM

Wii. Mainly because its cheaper and looks inventive. Although I love Playstation, the price it too much. Besides, I am trying to save to buy a new computer...

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Nov 6, 2006 12:47 AM

I've got a possible line on 2 PS3s from where I work, so I might pick up those, one to keep and one to resell. If I can, that means I"m getting both at launch, and if I can't, it means I"m stuck with the Wii until around March or so.

Sneak King is the ony reason for me to get an XBOX.

Halo can some too I guess...

chaofan Nov 6, 2006 03:19 AM

I don't have the money to buy all. Even if I did, I'd still buy the Wii and only the Wii. PS3? I'll just go over to my friends/cousins etc for those.

RABicle Nov 6, 2006 01:31 PM

Has Tube claimed the poll is rigged yet?

But yeah whatever. I'll be buying Wii. Who knows, maybe one day in the future I'll purchase a 360 or PS3, it really depends on the format war I spose. And thats a long long way in the future too. Money after Wii will be going towards travel and an iMac.

Helloween Nov 6, 2006 04:30 PM

Gonna get a Wii, but i'm gonna wait till around my birthday in march to pick it up. As it stands now, i have a myrriad of games i have yet to finish in my library, as well as FFXII and Kingdom Hearts up next in the purchasing line up. By March, hopefully they will have more titles out, or at least will have announced more titles, and i can tide myself over with Zelda until i get ahold of future titles.

I'll probably pick up a PS3 around late '07 to early '08. I'm hoping there will be at least a slight price drop by then. At the moment PS3 is basically on the edge of qualifying for my money, but i'd still like to see more titles out that will totally leave me in awe.

Retriever II Nov 6, 2006 11:15 PM

Not getting either, but not necessarily because I'm not interested. I just don't like the buy systems on launch. I eventually plan on getting a Wii, and that will likely be all. I may get it sooner if my sister really presses the issue.

PiccoloNamek Nov 6, 2006 11:27 PM

I will have to get a PS3 to play Silent Hill 5.

devilmaycry Nov 7, 2006 04:04 AM

Not getting any for a long time, maybe at all, who knows? I still haven't seen a enough decent games for me to buy anything. The only thing that comes any close to look decent is Castle Crashers for the XBox 360 and I'm not going to buy a console for a single game.

Whatever happend to good games anyway? I was out of the gaming scene for 5 years, from 2001 (death of DC) to 2006 (bought a GC, then a Xbox) and the difference is amazing. While there was a huge amount of excelent games on DC I can count by fingers the good games on these 2 plataforms.

When more shmups, Jet Set Radio's and Shenmue's kind of games return I'll think about getting a new console, 'till then either I'll pass or I'll get these when the price is right (100€ or less).

JackyBoy Nov 7, 2006 04:05 AM

PS3. Of course. Since I enjoy playing real games. The console will also serve as my media centre to go along with my 60 inch widescreen LCD and 6.1 surround system I plan to purchase but never be able to afford. I also plan on purchasing a Wii. Just because. Although I likely will wait until next holiday season before I do purchase one of the next gen consoles. Which one I purchase first will depend on how much money I don't mind parting with and what the game situation is looking like for each console at the time of purchase.

Kaleb.G Nov 7, 2006 04:12 AM

I'm getting a Wii at launch. Zelda and several party games are coming out and it will be a blast. PS3 has a mediocre launch line-up just like every Sony system before it. Can't say I'm really jazzed about it's future line-up of "big name" titles either...I'll wait for reviews. I'll probably buy a PS3 eventually, but not for another year, at least.

Infernal Monkey Nov 7, 2006 04:45 AM

I chose the last option on the poll, that's why I'm getting a Wii at launch coz it's non-game gimmick shit lolol. And that was mainly due to the TRU free game offer (which turned out to be Open Season holy crap) so I'll be switching to Myer because their free game's better. Although not by much. Sup GT Pro.

Obviously I'm going to end up with all three systems eventually though. Even if one of them comes down to a Saturn style 'cheaper than a big mac meal' death kick purchase. I am a nerd afterall. I would have bought a 360 by now if it wasn't for Australian publishers being absolute fuckwits and charging $120 for the games. Cut that shit out already wow, it's not 1992 anymore. PS3's out of the question for quite a long time considering it's gonna be one thousand dollars~

There better be a damn awful fantastic big selection of Simple 2000 games for it by the time I get to it.

Congle line of abuse. Or is that conga-line. Or congaline. Nov 7, 2006 05:37 AM

Going for Wii then PS3 later. That is if I get a job, then it'll be nothing for a very long time... :(

I'm doin it like this because SSBB comes out before MGS4. Two games I cannot live without, although my Wii will only be used for SSBB, the PS3 will find its uses as more Final Fantasies and other similar things worth playing. Fighting games most likely, since that's all I gots time for nowadays.

HOPEFULLY they'll totally crack into the ps3 via the swap magic or PSP-like antics, cause I really don't feel like buying legit games, rather purchase games in CHINA for 5 dollahs each, or download, or something like that. I'm sure they'll think of something, those crazy internet people with their hax.

RABicle Nov 7, 2006 01:48 PM

I can't wait for them to crack Wii. 512 Megs of flash memory? Fuck that. I don't even care how much it'll cost to upgrade it.

Single Elbow Nov 7, 2006 08:33 PM

Wii and PS3 later simply because no games for both system have caught my attention so far, though my cash reserve is good for one of them right now.

nazpyro Nov 8, 2006 12:40 AM

Definitely a Wii first. The PS3 will be later, but I don't know how much later. But I also want a 360 soon too. I might wait for bonuses to come around, at which point I'm inclined to choose "..infinite monies." :p But I'm not getting them all at once... meh, "Wii first, something later."

Godai Nov 8, 2006 01:31 AM

I voted "PS3 first, Wii later", although I might just end up picking up the Wii at random soon after launch. Definitely looking more forward to PS3 though.

FreeHooker Nov 8, 2006 01:39 AM

I've already got a 360. I got SO bored, and couldn't wait for the PS3. I'll be missing MGS4 (3 just happens to be my favourite game) and basically every good RPG, but I was SO desperate. All I can say is that Gears of War (And Assassin's Creed) better knock my socks off.

Cirno Nov 8, 2006 02:04 AM

I'd like to get a PS3, but the system is way too expensive for my little wallet. I'll realistically settle for a 360 some time next year, but until then I'm perfectly fine with my Sexstation Deux.

Balcony Heckler Nov 8, 2006 01:16 PM

actually if I do get the Wii, luckily I have a friend who owns a shop, so he'll eventually get one and I can trade stuff in for store value for it, eventually getting one for free, but the PS3 will be my first buy, and I hope Dead Rising comes out for it

Lost_solitude Nov 8, 2006 02:13 PM

Im going to go ahead and get the wii play some zelda until ssbb comes out. then years later when or if ps3's price goes down i will get it. Tekken 6 looks friggin kickass and it looks like they might make a tekken tag 2 unless the screens i saw are fake...they look pretty real.

MrSatan Nov 8, 2006 03:40 PM

ill get wii first, its cheaper and have smash brawl on it!!
ill get the ps3 when the price drops a little, or when the next Final Fantasy is released
Ill get XBOX 360 when the premium set price drops.

Neogin Nov 9, 2006 11:05 AM

Wii first, but not on launch day. PS3, most likely never. Who knows. Anyway, after the Wii it's the 360 for me..once (or if..) a price drop is announced.
