Ghost Recon Advanced War Fighter

Where's the thread for this game??? It got 9.2 at Gamespot and IGN, whether you trust reviews or not, very few games can pull off 9+ on both of these sites.

I've got my copy pre-ordered, and it should be coming in today or tomorrow.

Anyone else psyched to play this game? It may very well be the first actual "next-gen" title on the Xbox 360.

SketchTheArtist Mar 9, 2006 07:03 PM

I have to wait till next week to have it, but at a 50% discount, so I'll wait. ;-P

Newbie1234 Mar 9, 2006 09:08 PM

Got my copy! I checked a few stores and they were all sold out, luckily I had preordered the game beforehand. :D

I just played the Coop with a friend for the past 3 hours before taking a break. We beat two of the missions, and tried out all the coop modes. The missions are pretty standard, they give a waypoint, and you go there and clean house. Rinse and repeat. There are mainly two regular coop modes outside of the 4 missions, Elimination, where you just kill all the AI, and Defend, where you defend an area and the enemy just swarms at you.

The game is fun, but it definitely didn't blow me away, so the "next Halo" for the 360 is still up in the air.

I got it tonight, even though I hated every Ghost Recon game I played before.

It's fun, but the HDR is over kill. I now have a splitting headache.

I like it, I think it has some fun gameplay and some of the graphics are amazing. My biggest problem with it so far playing xbox live on this game seems very slow in terms of actually starting games. I spend more time in the lobby than in an actual game. Every other 360 game I have played online has been very quick to start game. Maybe I'm just spoiled by the other games.

What's HDR stand for? I'd ask about the headache but I get the feeling that will answer itself once I know what HDR is.

The heads up display is what I believe hes talking about. I know its one of the touted features of the game.

Stealth Mar 10, 2006 01:27 AM

HDR is High Dynamic Range lighting. Overused cheap graphics effect these days.

Is that the thing that makes everything look like it has a bright light shinning behind it? Like a bright border around everything.

Stealth Mar 10, 2006 01:30 AM

Precisely. Annoying as shit. Also adds sort of a glow to everything (Walls, etc.)

I also can't wait for GRAW on PC though.

*AkirA* Mar 10, 2006 01:38 AM

Yeah, that might be worth picking up when it hits PC.

Ive noticed that alot of 360 games are going overkill with the special effects. PDZ and DOA to name a few. It seems like there just throwing everything and anything on there to cover up where the systems falling short.

It's the whole exposure aspect that kills me. Hey, I'm in standing in the shade, it's all good. Step into the light and WHERE DID EVERYTHING GO!?

God forbid you're in a fire fight and you accidentally look to high up.

Yillb Mar 10, 2006 02:35 AM

Really, I didn't notice any problems with the light- I thought everything blended well. To be honest this is my first Ghost Recon/3rd person shooter and I think it is beyond great, the only complaints would be some detail things, none of which is even important- the gameplay is solid. Even having to play splitscreen multi in first person was fine, I got used to it and there isn't much to be lost not being in 3rd.

The only that would have made this game better would have been co-op of the actual single player story, however I think it would be 10 if it had four player co-op: four ghosts, for players- that would have been great.

Naa you're not spoiled, the lobby system is terrible in GRAW. I spent 20 minutes trying to find a game not in progress, and many times even though it showed "SETUP" on the bottom of the screen, the match had already started. Why is it that when you leave a room, you have to refresh the list is also needlessly frustrating.

Yeah... Some maps are fine, like "Old Town", but "Desert Gulch" has some serious lighting issues. I would often lose sight of my crosshair trying to aim at a guy on top of a hill.

*AkirA* Mar 10, 2006 05:48 PM

Sounds like they need to drop a serious patch for online.

Slayer X Mar 11, 2006 02:38 PM

I know that this is off topic and I apoligize for that, but I'm getting the game soon myself and what I wanted to know was can you issue commands using the headset like you can in Rainbow Six: Lockdown?

Jay Fox R.W.S. Mar 11, 2006 03:36 PM

I bought this game today and I'm very impressed with single player. I like the parts where you can give orders to helicopters, APCs and the spy drones.

Don't think so, it wasn't listed in the manual. Actually just plan no- I read it on another forum. No you can't use the headset. Sorry I felt that a simple no would be too short.

Slayer X Mar 11, 2006 09:58 PM

That's alright man. Though that is a disapointment. I really like issuing commands via voice, it makes the control scheme of a tactical game much cleaner. But from what I've seen the commands look pretty basic and clean cut. Still though...

UPDATE
I just played this game online after getting stuck on misson Mayday! and I love playing this thing online. It just works well, and I prefer G.R.A.W. over SOCOM 3. So if anyone wants to go for a couple of rounds (and more then likely whoop my a**) then just PM me and we'll set something up. ^^

*AkirA* Mar 12, 2006 12:48 AM

I just played this game for about 3 hours a friends house, and its amazing. I love the pacing. The one hit kills and online is wonderful (takes forever to find a game though). I think ill go grab a copy tomorrow.

I didn't expect it, but I currently find the singleplayer better than the online. Hopefully they fix up the lobby system so finding matches doesn't take half an hour.

*AkirA* Mar 12, 2006 01:54 PM

Yeah, the only online I played was with friends who already had the game. Its a shame too.

Spyer Mar 15, 2006 03:36 PM

I managed to get the Xbox copy, but not the 360 copy since, well, I don't have a 360, and I can notice a huge difference in the gameplay between the two (mainly from watching the trailers and playing it at my friend's house). If you want the most fun out of this game, get the 360 version, without a doubt.

Megalith Mar 15, 2006 04:39 PM

Man, I really gotta get working on those MASTER OF THE OBVIOUS pics.

Zeo Mar 20, 2006 01:17 PM

Okay, so my brother is apparently experiencing some kind of bug, he says.

He's on a roof, and has to move a tank to the big 'ol yellow square down on the street. He's doing it, but it just goes right over the square and keeps going.

It's mission 9.

Gilmour Mar 25, 2006 04:18 PM

Restart the console and reload from the last save, its a known bug

Didn't work. He had to redo the stage completely 3 times.

And now it freezes at the start of the last level and during the start of a level half way through Hard mode.

The game is literally unplayable now.

Someone fucked up bigtime and this is just simply unexcusable. I'm disgusted that I paid $60 for this only to not be able to play it until MS or Ubisoft fixes the problem -- whenever they want.

]-Ac3-[ Apr 17, 2006 12:10 AM

I love console games and all, but they're not versatile enough for me. I mean, I'm not a picky person but all I want to do is change my mouse sensitivity or stick sensitivity. It takes forever to turn and aim at someone or run for your life while they're launching nuclear warheads towards your chest. I just bought this game and started playing today so I haven't dug deep into the options yet. Hopefully they have those settings, and it would be nice to change video settings as well. I did notice in a few MP maps the game runs a little choppy and sluggish. I just started my first round in MP and already won a match vs. 5 other guys so it does feel good :). Now if only I can change the sensitivity It would be on like donkey Kong :boxing:

I personally don't know how it got 9.2. I can only assume it's due to the online play (which I have heard is really good), because the single player warrants about a 7.6 in my opinion.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Apr 21, 2006 07:54 AM

I played this at a friend's the other day and frankly, I think it's terrible compared to the older Ghost Recons.

The glowing borders round the soldiers are annoying as hell, the stupid leaning into cover thing is even more annoying, the range of weapons is poor and the whole thing feels far more arcadey than the older games. It's almost as if they've dumbed down GR for the 360 audience.

This was gonna be the game that persuaded me to buy my own 360 but it certainly isn't any more. I'll stick to Summit Strike on the old Xbox for now.

Rock Apr 21, 2006 08:04 AM

I've just started playing the PS2 version of the game and so far it's just horrible. I don't know how this game got so much praise because the gameplay is terribly stupid, boring and ininspired. It might have to do with the fact that this is a PS2 port, but I couldn't bear this for more than 15 minutes. And honestly, if a game doesn't get you hooked from the start, it's not worth playing. This certainly isn't.

And I actually happen to like the older Ghost Recon games on PC, although the quicksave feature ruined the challenge.

You can turn those off- the other stuff, um okay.

Spoiler:
I found the last battle to be disappointing, the guy died and I wasn’t even shooting at him- I guess that means the Ghosts were doing their jobs’
