I've noticed here that a lot of Americans think that anywhere in the top range of 5 feet is tall.

In my country this is not the case. I'm 6'2" or 6'3" or so and I'm not considered tall here because there are so many males around my height.

Is your country full of midgets?

I am 5'11, most of the people around here are at least 5'5 or higher. my brother is about 6'6.

I was measured the other day by my doctor, and I clocked in at 6'6". I used 6'5", though, because it's closest.

5'4", so I'm on the lower end of 5' and have always seen myself as average height. I think anyone in the high 6' range is rather tall in comparison and in general.

Hmm... I'm 5'5", and I think of myself as short. It must be the type of people I hang out with since I'm the only person who is shorter than six feet.

Many people in my area are a bit on the short side. It's somewhat rare for me to see a male who's at least 6'0, but there are still a good amount of them who are. But compared to other countries I've visited, they're not that tall around my area. That said, I'm about 5'6" and one of the taller girls at school and among my group of friends.

I'm 6' give or take half an inch. I haven't had a height measurement by a doctor in a while, but I was 5'11" and a bit two years or so ago (when I was around 16).

Well if you're saying top range of 5 feet is not tall then I must say a lot of guys in my area are short, since only a handful of them reach 6'.

I'm 5'6" (give and take) myself, and I consider myself just about average height.

I can't remember the last time I've been officially measured, but I know I was around 5'11" whenever I did do it (back when I was 18, which means I probably haven't grown since then). I've never really considered myself tall (because it seems like no matter how many people I'm taller than in a room, there's always at least one person taller), but I know I'm definitely not short either.

5'8... i'm kinda tall, my sisters are all like 5'6/5'7 and my brother is like 6'3...

I'm a short 5'10". I'd like to be at least 6' because that's about how tall most of my friends are. One girl friend I have is probably 6'2 or more.

I think I was 5'9" or 5'10" last time I had a physical. Can't imagine I've changed that drastically since then. Oh, and I'd place myself at an "average" height.

I'm around 5' 8". My doctor claims that is average height for guys in my country. That's weird, cause i'm often the shortest guy in the room, with very few exceptions.

I'd say the majority of men in Manitoba seem to be around 6' 0".

I'm about 5' 10" last I checked. Which is kind of a bummer because everyone else I know outside my family is 6'+. I guess I should consider myself lucky though. Most of my family is short. I'm taller than both my parents by quite a bit and none of my siblings are my height. So I guess I got lucky when the genes were dealt.

6ft exactly. I think its the perfect height and i'm glad about it. 5'11 to 6'2 seems to be about the average around my friends.

5'8 and I'm an asian girl so everyday I thank god I'm not a midget.

I'm 5'7.5" and feel it a decent height. The only time it's something of an issue is when I wear heels, and it makes me an Amazon.

(I always think of myself as short and it really surprises me when I stand close to other people because I have to look down. I suppose it's a self-esteem issue.)

Well I'm only 5'9" but I'm a girl and that's 4 inches over the average female height so I consider myselft tall enough, especially since my mother is only 5'2"

I'm 5'4", definitely short for a guy. Never really gave it much thought since very few people around me are significantly taller than me.

I'm 6'1. I was surprised to get more comments about my heigth when I lived in the US for 4 months than I do back home. I guess I'm of average (or just slightly above) height here.

I'm about 178-180cm, which is about 5'11, i believe.

I am 6'3", and considered just on the cusp of being tall. Average is about 5'10" or so. All my Asian friends consider me very tall. I guess with good reason.

I'm 5'9. My family always makes a big deal about how tall I am. I'm not that freaking tall. They're always saying maybe I'll grow up to be 6 foot. I'm 22 now and they are people who are taller than me that used to shorter than me. I'm done growing.

6' 1" whitey here. Closer to 6' 2", but I'm not all that eager to get any taller. The only three guys I've met who are noticeably taller than me are also much bigger in general... and the tallest one of them has like, no personality. Maybe there's not enough oxygen up there so he gets all... airheaded. Strange term.

The last time that I was measured was in high school, where I came in at 6 feet 4 inches.

One of the things that I absolutely hate hearing is "Wow, you're tall!" Seriously, how do you respond to that? "Uh...yea" is one that I go with often, or sometimes "Well what do you want me to do about it?" if I feel like being a jackass. As an ice breaker, it angers me on many levels.

I'm 6'4". This above average for the area that I live in. That's around down the 6' mark.

People also always ask me how tall I am, which gets irritating after a while. I just go with "Yeah, I'm only 6'4"." Once I have told them how tall I am, they tend to go slightly wide-eyed, but once they have processed that, they tend to just leave me alone, and go on their merry way.

Where I live just about all the hispanics are really short so I feel high and mighty around them. Then when I'm around black people they are just about my hight or taller. The when I'm around a white neighborhood I notice that alot of middle aged males are really tall. Especially some of my teachers.

I'm a nice even 6 feet tall (British Asian). Most British men are either quite short and/or disproportionate from what i've seen. Taller, stronger people are more common in cities for some reason.

I'm 5' 9, and although I've always been one of the tallest out of others my age, that's really short for my family. My mother's the same size as me, my dad is about 5'11, my older brother is 6'4 and my eldest brother is 6'6. However, people are getting really short these days. I've seen people my age who look about 16 or 15, and I've seen 13 year olds who look about 6 years old (it always amazes me how short they are 0__o)

I was 6'0" by the age of around 12ish/5th gradish. By the end of my highschool life I was 6'5".

In Hawaii that is considered short. Especially if your family, like my mines, are full of polynesians. Because Hawaiians, Tongans and Samoans are huge, both tall and wide. haha.

looking at the results, the people here are taller than average. or maybe just bias. Short people are less likely to include their height and that would effect the validity of the results

I'm 6'0". I'm considered tall in Hong Kong, but in some regions of China, there are people that are as tall as I am. Some may be even as tall as Yao Ming.

I'm 5'9 and I am one of the tallest girls I know. I actually don't have any female friends that are taller than me. I think average height for a guy in the US is probably like 5'11 or so - that's my experience anyways.

I'm 5'7 1/2": not too tall, not too short (in America, at least). The first post mentions how people around 5'10" or higher are considered "tall" here in the states, so I thought that I'd share my distorted perception of height. You see, I grew up with a father who is 6'8", so I honestly don't find men "tall" unless they're about 6'5" or above.

On an interesting side note, my father's cousin is 6'4" and is in the Air Force. He ended up in China at one point and the people there flipped out over his height. They were coming up to him and asking for his autograph and taking pictures with him. I don't know if they thought he was famous or just wanted to have a souvenir from the tallest person they've probably ever seen. Either way it's damn funny.

Slightly above average in my area. Most men around here seem to fall in the 5'10" to 6'1" range with a few well above that. 6'10" anyone? We wasn't even skinny either, he was kind of built like shaq... he was huge.

6'~6'1" but I'm built like a chimp, so I have really long appendages, compared to other males my height. I'm also on the slimmer side.

I used to be short and stout, like I don't think I even breached the 5' mark until after I graduated high school, then like a year later when I turned 17 I took a huge leap of like 9 inches, and have been steadily growing into my twenties.

I'm between 5'9" and 5'10" but closer to 5'9", which apparently fairly tall for a male asian. In high school I was about average, but in college, I am a little shorter then average (I think). I'm also built like a twig (135-140 lb. :annoyed:) so people sometimes think I'm taller then I really am. :)

I'm 6'1 and I am extremely shocked that the majority of the people that voted are the same height. Most people are under 6 feet tall. The average height is 5'10 or 5'11 I believe.

I'm a decent 6'4, but i'm skinny as a rake. And I too am surprised at the poll results. The average height here is higher than the average at my school. Go figure.
