Are you CPR certified?

Curious about who are the life-saving members of GFF.

I know HOW to do CPR, but that's not enough for some. :p

Vemp Mar 9, 2006 10:11 AM

I am. My certification should be here somewhere. Although I haven't able to apply it in a real situation so far.

Fjordor Mar 9, 2006 10:14 AM

I used to be certified to do CPR, through my old boy scout troop. However, I think that thing might have expired.
So, I just voted that I know how, but don't have official certification.

Arainach Mar 9, 2006 10:17 AM

Several times over again. We were trained professionally at least 3 times throughout my career in the Boy Scouts and at least twice in various school classes. I've never had to use it, thankfully, but I'm trained.

Phoque le PQ Mar 9, 2006 12:14 PM

Yes I am. However, I need to renew my knowledge; it's been two years aldready.

This thing should be a part of the school curriculum; so many lives could be spared

Lee-chan Mar 9, 2006 12:24 PM

Actually, there was a special unit on CPR and First Aid that I took in high school, but that was a while ago. If I had the time, I guess, I might try for a certification the next time.

Greykin Mar 9, 2006 12:29 PM

Maybe 5 or so years ago I went to go get certified on my own, then a few years after I got certified again through the military, so I think I have it down pretty good.

Elcee Mar 9, 2006 12:34 PM

I acquired honorary CPR Certification from my girlfriend in eight grade. I've been making mouths happy ever since. I have yet to save a life, however.

xuemin Mar 9, 2006 04:11 PM

i know how vaguely, but have no certification since it was just a compulsory part of my school's curriculum; we had to be able to administer CPR and water-based rescue type stuff (helping drowning people, in case we somehow got stuck in the middle of a lake/ocean/sea). but this was awhile ago, about 5 years, hence the know vaguely

SemperFidelis Mar 9, 2006 04:34 PM

It is part of my school curriculum and we're learning it right now. And yeah, I think I'm going for my certification. I want to volunteer for the ambulance corps for my hours this summer.

CapturedPenguin Mar 9, 2006 04:37 PM

I became CPR certified this year actually. I took Care & Prevention of Athletic Injuries as part of my required P.E. credit and we were able to take the test for free as well as work on dummies to prove we knew what we were doing.

Locke Mar 9, 2006 04:42 PM

Everyone should be CPR certified - weather it is required or not. There's absolutly no reason not to be.

Hydra Mar 9, 2006 04:48 PM

Locke, in some places it costs money to be certified. Though, I agree to the extent that everyone should know how. You never know when your bf is going to keel over. O_o

For me, it was a prerequisite for lifesaving classes, which I've always regretted not finishing. *sigh*

Locke Mar 9, 2006 05:01 PM

That's what I had meant - certified is nice - but everybody should at least know how.

Gumby Mar 9, 2006 05:55 PM

I am certified, but I believe it will expire this year... Not that I care, I still know how to do it. Luckily I have never had to use it, yet.

JackTheRipper Mar 9, 2006 06:00 PM

No, but next year when I take health we learn how to do CPR.

nadienne Mar 9, 2006 06:14 PM

Added the applicable option for my situation.

I've been certified three times. Certification only lasts a year, so mine's a bit out of date at the moment. If a crisis came up, though, I know I'd be able to handle it.

=)

splur Mar 9, 2006 06:24 PM

Not certified, but I know how to do CPR. Guess I'll never become a lifeguard.

Isn't that the same as knowing how to do it but not being certified?

Josiah Mar 9, 2006 07:10 PM

I was certified way back when I was taking swimming lessons, but now it's just vague knowledge for me too. Sorry I can't be of much help if you happen to keel over at your comp, wherever that is. :tpg:

Eleo Mar 9, 2006 07:14 PM

I've actually never thought much about it.

Actually, what is CPR? What does it even stand for? I'm certainly not going to Google it, for I am lazy.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, also know as ABC, (Airways, Breathing, Circulation)

And I am certified to do CPR, never had to use it thankfully.

scotty Mar 9, 2006 07:35 PM

Im certified till september 2008. I had to get it because a course was being held at my dads work, so I got in free instead of 600 dollars per person. Im glad I got it, it looks good when getting a job

J-Man Mar 9, 2006 07:36 PM

We learned how to do it in Gym class at school.....

Didn't really pay attention, just hope one of you certified guys is close by.

scotty Mar 9, 2006 08:04 PM

don't worry J-man, I'll be there for you...

Nope. Notice how many people are like, oh, I think I kinda know how...which essentially means no. If you've not practiced enough to get certified you're probably going to screw it up if it comes down to an emergency situation. Also, just reading how to do it means you probably have no idea how hard you have to press to be effective.

Single Elbow Mar 9, 2006 08:37 PM

Currently CPR-C Certified. Took it last year as part of my medical school requirements.

As for a refresher? I'm thinking aboutr it.

SemperFidelis Mar 9, 2006 09:48 PM

For an adult, use two hands and use your judgment giving chest compressions. 1 and half, two inches deep is probably good.

Shoeless Mar 9, 2006 09:52 PM

I was CPR certified years and years ago, it was a requirement in one of my biology classes in High School. I haven't since renewed the certification, but I plan on doing it soon. Procrastination is a bitch.

FLEX Mar 9, 2006 11:30 PM

I learned how to do it in my high school's health class......in between wrapping condoms on various fruits and fapping to medical illustrations of vaginae.....

Refresher course? Probably not.

Acro-nym Mar 10, 2006 12:28 AM

No one, under any circumstances, should put their life in my hands, especially in relation to needing CPR. No possible good can ever come of that.

Gr|M Mar 10, 2006 09:32 AM

I'm CPR certified, Life-Guard Certified, and First Responder Certified.

pianist Mar 13, 2006 05:47 AM

i own a first aid certificate and a senior first aid certificate so i know more than just CPR =D
It's not hard to get here, you just need to pass both the practical and theory exam but you cant get more than 3 wrongs in the theory exam.
The certificate will expire in February 2008.

Shiny McShine Mar 13, 2006 06:41 AM

Well, I know how to perform CPR to a T, since my dad has worked in a hospital since before I was born, but I'm not actually certified. He taught me lots of really important things, though. Such as how to check for vital signs, how to read heartbeats per minute, how to tell if you need to actually rescusitate(sp?) someone or just splash cold water on them, etc.

aku Mar 14, 2006 01:34 AM

I am, full Red Cross/ Life Guard certified...why? because i worked at a pool for the last 3 summers...

Sora_Naegino Mar 14, 2006 02:23 AM

I'm not CPR certified, but I do know how to perform CPR since I had to learn it in gym class in high school.

schneider Mar 14, 2006 04:15 AM

First Aid certified =/ which means i can be sued if i dont step into a situation for negligence

iokcs Mar 14, 2006 04:33 AM

im not... i really should be though...

Akumu Mar 14, 2006 06:33 AM

I had to be CPR certified when I started my new job over in the summer. Even though I got a card saying that I am certified, I kind of forgot what to do. I just learned it in the moment, lol (it was only one day from 7am - 3pm). I need to practice it in order for it to be second nature to me.
