Borat (The Movie)
You can now read my Review about this movie HERE. Heres a short describtion: Sacha Baron Cohen - star of HBO’s hit comedy “Da Ali G Show,” takes his outrageous Kazakstani reporter character Borat to the big screen. In this hilariously offensive movie, Borat travels from his primitive home in Kazakhstan to the U.S. to make a documentary. On his cross-country road-trip, Borat meets real people in real situations. |
I'm pretty sure this will become the movie of the year.
|
It's even getting good review from the critics. I'm damn excited to see my favorite tennis playing, disco dance Kazakh in theaters.
|
This movie looks good... I don't know why but whenever I see the part where he is trying to learn how to use a "not" joke, I can't stop laughing... I can't wait to see it
|
For me, I am a little scared of it. I find it has a lot of dry humor. I mean, don't get me wrong, I enjoy it, but not as much as I would think. Maybe I will give it a try some time in the future.
|
I have not even seen upon this movie film, and yet still I encourage watching.
Just the fact that Kazakhstan got paranoid about it is worth $6.50 |
Just today I noticed an outdated poster for a free Borat screening on campus.
How the hell did I miss that? Regardless, this movie looks like it's gonna be great. |
And now's one of those times I will be glad I work at a movie theater and get to see movies for free. I can't wait to see this movie. The humor looks to be right up my alley, and the previews have been hilarious.
|
I plan to see this one, too. I've seen previews as far back as last winter and I've wanted to see it since.
I can't help but to feel embarassed for "Borat" the entire time, though. He's got balls. Which makes this HILARIOUS. I would pay money to see a more sophicated and political version of Jackass, sure. |
What's it about? Heard a lot about how it's gonna be great, not a lot on what it's about.
|
Please change the title of the thread to Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan..
|
Is Borat/Ali G/Sacha doing really well in the States then? We haven't seen hime round our parts for a while now although we've all heard of the film....which I'll be going to see of course.
|
His show over here has more of a cult following. His Ali G character was more popular both overseas and in the States, but he still wasn't as widely known (in the States at least). This worked in Sacha's favor, since he was better able to infiltrate unsuspecting politicians and civilians under his numerous guises.
By now, both Ali G and Borat are screwed. I don't think there's anyway for him to continue using those characters without getting caught. Fortunately Bruno is still around for him to tinker with, as well as whatever new characters he might be able to conjure up. |
lol He already has planes in case the movie fails like selling his kids. Read HERE for more!

I really wanna see this one. I love his sense of humor.

While waiting to see this movie, check this out:
How Borat hoaxed America http://www.borat.tv/ms_blog/cannes.jpg "Is funny!" |
I am taking a few days off work since I have so many vacation days saved up I have to use before '07, and went to the 12:30 showing of "Borat."
If you enjoyed the trailers and clips, you will really love this film. It's basically more of the same but in a longer format of course. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it was inconsistent. Borat suffers a crisis of motivation about 2/3 through the film, and the film tries to get sentimental on us. It's not that this part of the film was "bad" per se but the tone in this segment was so different from the rest of the film that it really threw me out of whack and took me out of the movie. Really, that's my only criticism. There is full frontal male nudity (and these dudes are hairy :D ), very explicit references to gay sex acts, some very scatalogical humor, and numerous things that would generally be considered offensive to "middle America." That being said, I didn't find that the film was "mean spirited" in its humor in any way. It was too silly and off-the-wall to be mean. Everyone in the theatre I was in loved it and laughed throughout the film, although I must say the crowd wasn't too large since it was around noon. I'd rate it at 4.5/5 or A-. The film is a shoe-in for comedy of the year unless something better comes along, which is doubtful... |
Waa waa wee waa! I can't wait to see this movie - hopefully I'll be able to catch it tomorrow. :D Most of the reviews I've read seem to be really positive.
|
Been out tonight with some friends and saw this film. Fucking hilarious. Seriously. So wrong and yet so funny. It's not going to be to everyone's liking that's for sure, but if pure silliness is your thing then this should tickle you.
|
Seriously, is it really that funny? I mean, I watched the first few minutes of the film and stuff on Youtube, but it didn't seem THAT funny. Does it get better towards the middle?
|
I worked tonight (I work at a theater near the college campus here) and the theater was packed with people seeing the movie. I was hearing good things from the few people I heard anything from. Unfortunately, because I was working, I didn't get to see it. And I work the matinee shows Saturday too. Maybe Saturday night I can see it after work if I'm not too tired.
I've been holding myself over by looking at clips of Borat from Da Ali G Show on youtube. Those are some hilarious stuff, especially the wine drinking one. I hope the movie is more of the same. |

Saw it last night. One critic summed it up perfectly by calling it a "politically conscious Jackass."
|
I just got back from the movie. There was a point where I had thought to myself "This is it, this is how I'm going to die....from laughing to death at this movie."
I'm sure those who've seen it already will know what scene I'm referring to, but I was praying to God that they would take a break from that insanity, at least just for a minute, so I could start breathing again. Eventually there was a break, but my sides are still hurting. Funniest movie I've seen in a theater since Team America. Not a quiet person in the theater. |

Spoiler:
Because I know for a fact that I was rolling during that scene. |
I'm looking forward to this, as I heard it just got released in theatres yesterday, and I have quite a few movie vouchers, so I won't mind at all checking this one out. I found Jackass 2 to be a bit over the top for me a few weeks ago as in "live pranks", so hopefully Borat will humor me in a more "clean" way. But I doubt it. ALL IN GOOD HANDS FOR EDUCATING!

And it's not really like Jackass, aside from that scene in question (unless you're implying that many of the scenes were improvised, which I was wondering myself, or if they were all staged). It has more in common with mockumentaries like Reno 911 (which turns out has a movie of its own coming out, as I just discovered in the attached trailer). |
I'm looking forward to more of the reactions on the prankees, rather than any gross out factor. I just want to see to what extremes he goes to, which I read somewhere that.
Spoiler:
Yeah, I'd like to see the reaction to that. And him singing the preverse version of the US National Anthem at the rodeo. |
That scene didn't actually happen (although he does mention the part about women's brain sizes). Maybe it'll be in the inevitable "Uncut DVD".
|
Damn, so it got cut. I saw a youtube link where he's in an animal shelter and asks if the dog "attacks Jews". Damn I laughed. NO NO NO, JESUS CHRIST AND GOD LIKE JEWS, SO THAT CANT BE, or something along those lines, then he inquires about how to cook the dog. LOL. I read this was cut out too =/
|
Quote:
The Jackass comparion stems from the fact that the movie is him getting real reactions from real people, but instead of eating vomit and skateboarding he exploits peoples racism and stupidity when reacting to a foreigner. |
In that case, forget movie of the year. This is movie of the freaking decade.
That guy Borat was talking to when he first entered the Rodeo HAD to be staged. :tpg: Also, I was unaware that Borat was actually part of the Ali G show (which I've never seen as I don't have HBO). Does the series deliver even half the laughs of this movie? Quote:

so this movie is actually worth seeing? I was going to go see the will ferrel emma thompson movie instead.
|
Did you not read how this movie became life threatening to me? :tpg:
That Wil Ferrel movie looked pretty interesting until the trailer revealed every single plot twist. |

I'm still torn between seeing this or the new Will Ferrell movie. Both look good, and I'm just not much for finding time and spending the money to go to the movies more than once. EDIT: Well, Borat apparently isn't playing in any theaters around here. Guess that makes the choice a bit easier. |
I just put my Review online how you can see in the first post and thinking about seeing it a 2nd time. I wish every mockumentary could be like that!
|
Just got home from the theater. Best comedy in the last 10 years. It's so wrong and just so right. My favorite scene must have been
Spoiler:
This is already a classic. |
The Will Ferrell film will make $300 from people who are trying to get into Borat and mistakenly buy a ticket to the wrong movie. Then, it will be released onto DVD next week and make another $30. Then no one will speak of it again.
Go see Borat. |
Borat was fucking crazy, I loved the movie. I went and saw it with a good friend of mine and pretty much the entire movie we were just laughing our asses off.
Spoiler:
Anyway, great movie. Funny as hell. |

I agree. I enjoyed Stranger Than Fiction far more than I thought I would. It's a good role for Will Farrell, and shows a bit of his dramatic side, which comes across very well in the film.
As for Borat, though... I can't wait to see it. |
I saw Borat last week, it was definitely hysterical. Everyone I saw it with loved it, and the other people I talked to at work loved it. So, reviews around here are pretty good. And it was actually still selling out the largest theaters here on the second weekend, quite surprising.
|
Borat. heh the name cracks me up! I wonder how long it will take for it to reach this country.
|
I haven't gotten the chance to see it yet =/
My friends who've seen it say it's hilarious and it's definately gotten some good reviews. Can't wait to watch it. |
Just so everybody's clear. Cohen isn't a Kazakstani. He's really Jewish. And if you're at all concerned about his racial comments (which no one here seems to care much) He really is making fun of the people who actually believe that crap.
|
Sass and I went to see Borat tonight. It was very funny, and I'll let her tell you about her reaction. It won't win any Oscars (which is probably both a good thing and a bad thing) but it certainly was well done.
|
The commercials ruined quite a few bits, but the movie managed to be very funny despite that. And I definitely did not expect that scene (you know); it was one of the most outrageously hilarious things I had ever seen.
|
My sides hurt laughing. The movie, although crude, crass, and low class, was still funny. Funny in both irony (Borat hates Jews, he happens to come across a nice elderly Jewish couple, you fear for them all) and in the unexpected sense (the two mean getting it on...). There was a lot of scenes where I just felt bad for some of the people who didn't know they were getting into this movie (antique store owner) and how poorly Borat treated them, but overall it just makes it funnier.
|
I'll probably check out this movie this weekend but in all honestly they guy looks like he would just annoy me.
I guess its like stan said, "dude the whole country saw this movie, I guess we gatta see it too." |

When the audience is laughing along WITH you, it's great. When they show no sense of humor toward this brand of comedy, it's really a drag. Anyways, I thought the movie was among the most hilarious I've seen. You laugh NON-STOP, and its really not forced laughter. The plot, albeit shallow and silly, is hardly even applicable to the underlying point. The laughter never gets stale and everything is constantly staying fresh. I was a little worried about what Cohen does usually - same old schtick - but he proved me wrong. I was so pleased with this film. I am amazed at how good it was. |
I liked it a lot. That said, it's not beyond criticism. It was full of brilliant slapstick and dickjokes, but... that's about it. I expected more wit and social commentary. Other than that, it was great.
|
One word to describe this movie is "Wow"
As in "wow this movie sucked" There was so much hype in this movie I felt I had to see it even though the commercials alone were a big turn off. Tuns out the movie was annoying and nothing really funny. "Oh look my sister, Let me kiss her har har now let us fight naked" it all felt too immature and tiring this kind of "tom green" sort of sketches isn't funny anymore. I enjoy immature things as much as the next child but this movie was just so annoying. My eyes have just been tainted  |

I laughed and laughed and laughed! Definately the funniest movie I have seen in a while, my favourite scene was when he was learning how to drive. Non-stop humour!

I don't know how this snuck by with a mere 14A in Cdn theatres, but after seeing this yesterday, I was howling! Well, except for the clearly nude parts which were totally shocking, not usually getting a kick out crude humour. I flinched the first time, and then I turned away during the 5 minute scene *shudder*
My favourite part was when he made the joke about his retarded sister. Oh man! "You will NEVER get this!" The only thing that came close to that for me was the part with the Christians toward the end. The whole thing was a refreshing kind of hilarious that you don't see excessively, especially in "normal" movies. |
This is by far the sexiest film I ever seen, it was quite hilarious as well. My mates and I have been waiting 8 months to see this film and finally we got round to seeing it on Saturday. I just can't wait till the Bruno film comes out.
|
Good to see Borat doing so well on the other side of the pond. He has always been a big hit with the brits.
Overall, I it was more shocking than funny, it had its moments but I was kinda disappointed. The tv series has way more laughs with being so out there. Best part for me was the dinner table seen, it was too funny, the joke about the wife, toilet then the prostitute was too much. I really liked how they jumped from fooling the public to continuing the movie plot (college guys). Oh and the wait in the elevator lol. Lol was Pamela in on it, or was that for real!?! Best of Borat from the UK TV showf or those who haven't seen it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFP-MktgOKU |

My brother and I watched in in rental just last night - it was HILARIOUS. I can't remember the last time I laughed that hard - so hard I was crying. The movie was a bit flat and obvious at times, but the good scenes more than make up for it. Killer. I'm buying it tonight.
|
It was funny the first time I saw it, but it has absolutly no re-watch value for me.

I've seen it 3 times so far and I still find myself laughing at the funnier parts. The deleted scenes were funnier to me than the main movie though, probably because it was the first time I watched them. |
