What stereotypes do you fit into?
OK, so, you know how there are stereotypes for every minority (and majority) group out there, so here's a question for you:
Which stereotypes hold true for you? for example, I am a gay male who lives in the Southern U.S.. I enjoy kitch in many varieties. I not only like musical theatre (in general, don't get me started on Rodgers and Hammerstein), I have performed in several shows (one of which was written by Stephen Sondheim). I also like opera and various other theatrical things. I enjoy kitschy things. In my room I have all three of the Star Wars Mr. Potato Heads, as well as a resin statue of a dog pissing. Japanese kitsch is particularly enjoyable. I like dance music. Well, some dance music. Also, Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys make me happy. Ummm . . . I like the mansex. What about y'all (yeah a few of my word choices are about the only thing that are stereotypical about me living where I do. Don't listen to just country, don't fly a confederate flag, yadda yadda yadda)? |
I'm the snobby fag. I love overpriced, expensive shit that I can't ever afford, but I waste my money on it all anyway.
|
I'm black, and I ♥LOVE♥ chicken and watermelon!
|
I'm a New Englander - I'm damned proud of my region, I'm a Red Sox fan, I think New England is as big as the world, and I am a cold woman who needs to be in by ten o'clock.
Thats pretty much the only thing I can think of that I fit into. Except for the typical fat, nuturing type. I am all about nuturing. Don't tell anyone. |
I'm a girl. I know how to knit and sew. I am interested in becoming better at cooking, but that is really more so I'm not a complete failure of a human being. Everyone should know how to cook.
|
I'm a middle-class white college student.
I'm lazy, live with my parents, and I'm scared of black people. |
I suppose I'm a cliche Californian (in the eyes of Texans) in that I drink soymilk and eat tofu. On a regular basis.
People tell me that I seem like I could be goth, and I'm inclined to agree, since I like a lot of the literature/clothing/music that surrounds it, and I'm pale as a ghost to boot. Unfortunately, I'm not fascinated by death nor am I in any hurry to die, so on some levels I fail to fit into the stereotype. I find myself loathing mallgoths, or indeed anyone who claims to be goth when they are more emo than anything else. Oh yeah, and I'm totally a bookworm/music nerd. I even have the glasses to prove it. |
I'm fat, single and not particularily smart. I'm a stereotypical internet girl.
|
I'm a 24 year old white male who lives with his parents, has action figures and Star Wars posters hanging from his walls, and views women as objects of both sublime wonder and nebulous intent.
Spoiler:
I know. It's almost too good, isn't it? The only thing I really have going for me is that I'm going to college. |
I'm asian female, I wear black eyeliner, eat rice and have more designer shit than I should be able to afford (blame my mom, seriously she buys me Gucci shoes when I'm fine with normal ones). That's pretty much it, I don't have long black hair, horrible blonde highlights, ragged split ends and I'm not 3 feet tall and weight 50 pounds.
I'm a girl so I also knit and sew and am scared of bugs and mice. And I drive a Toyota. |
I'm an asian guy.
Stereotypical Junk: I play the piano...plus a handful of other instruments. I am skinny. I eat rice. I use chopsticks. I eat Kimchi. I drive a Toyota. I play videogames. I like Starcraft and Warcraft. DRR included. I took all accelerated classes and APs in high school. I like science and math. I am trying to go to Medical School after college. Weird Quirks: I dated only white girls in high school. I am assertive and open-minded. I did a hell of a lot of drugs back in the day. I participate in organized sports. I can't break dance...;_;...(I wish I could) |
I am a white, 22 year old male who is from a small town in northwestern ontario called Emo.
Which means, people automatically think all the kids in Emo, Ontario are emo... which isn't true... for the most part. |
I take solace in the fact that Im a young white male. The skys the limit, right?
|
I'm somewhat stereotypical Jewish in the sense that don't like to pay a lot for things, but on the other hand, I buy a shitload of stuff (Much of it way overpriced for what a person my age and lifestyle would need.)
I'm also really prone to staying up late and getting up late, as most college students are, and I have an annoying tendency to skip too many classes. I'm also fat and white, play lots of videogames and generally don't talk much to other people. |
I'm a Canadian guy:
I play hockey. I watch hockey. I love hockey. I say "eh". I like poutine. I own plaid. I like the outdoors/camping. |
I'm the 5'6" short Asian dude residing in Canada that attracts a lot of people's glares and stares probably because of my frowning facial expression that I've put on ever since I was little. I can't help it, I'm not really the people's person in mornings and late afternoons.
|
I'm a white guy who likes Rush.
|
I am a 24 year old white Newfoundland woman.
-I have a thick newfie accent and slang -I love to go out in boat -I love to fish when we are allowed to -I love to dance a jig -I love newfie jokes -I want a newfoundland dog -I love to tell stories -I clean my house often and love to cook for my boyfirend -I am the ruler of the house and what I says goes, mainly because what I says is best for the home. -I know many home remedies and tricks for fixing pratical things and old first aid. -I currently work at a call center that works for a Americain company -We really do say 'yes b'y' in every 5th sentance |

I dont really fit into any stereotypes. Im the straightest gay bloke there is, I study media production but I dont like grungy music, Im a little bit overweight but I dont eat at all, and I like playing on computers which is unusual for a gay man.
I have met the most stereotypical gays in my time though, tall, skinny, camp as summer camp, and gay as the trees. |
I'm a middle class "soccer mom" type (although none of my kids play soccer). I drive an SUV and spend way too much time talking on my cell phone while simultaneously juggling less important activities like drinking Starbucks lattes and driving. My husband is the breadwinner and my house is very clean. I often find myself saying things like, "Have a good day, honey," and "No more snacks before dinner."
|
typical 20 year old white computer nerd:
1. fat 2. plays video games on all systems at almost all times 3. majoring in a computer-related field 4. loves anime 5. can think of no better drink than mountain dew, coffee or any other high sugar/caffiene drink 6. bit of a recluse 7. lives on the web. 8. loves midieval things. |
I'm a Newfoundland-born 20-year-old nerd:
-I spend most of my day in front of my monitor, either surfing forums or watching anime. -I am single -I am pale and physically weak -I love to game online -I haven't spent money on games, music, or movies in a loooong time. -I drink at least one pot of coffee daily -I dance jigs from time to time -When I eat out, I go to the fish & chips place around the block. I consider it a delicacy. -I love poutine. Canadian, eh? That much said, while I do use the local slang from time to time, I rarely say "b'y". That's a rural Newfie thing, us townies have pretty weak accents. :P LOL, way to live in the boons, Chibi! :P |

Most people would call me a stereotypical nerd:
- I read a lot. - I'm a loner. - I don't have many friends. Instead of hanging out with my friends, I spend a lot of time online and on GFF. Y'all are much more entertaining than anyone I know. - I'm single. I've had offers, but I wouldn't date anyone from my area even if they paid me. - I play video games, though not as often as I'd like to. - I wear glasses. - I don't wear make-up. - I wear my hair either in a ponytail, in a chomp clip, or down. I don't have the patience to learn how to style my hair. - I don't keep up with fashion. Jeans, t-shirts, and cheap sneakers are fine with me. - I make good grades. - My sense of humor is extremely nerdy. - I listen to classical music and other non-mainstream stuff. - I used to play a musical instrument (and still would if I could). - I love anything that has to do with the Middle Ages or the Renaissance. I'm one of those folks who loves to go to the Renaissance Festivals and dress up and stuff. I'm not as pathetic as that list makes me sound. Really. |
Imagine being whisked away to... Delaware. "Hi, I'm in Delaware."

Snowmobiling, maple syrup, being awesome as hell, all those other stereotypes work too. |
Oh, I thought the being awesome as hell one went without saying, so I didn't bother to include it. I guess I should have, even though everyone would've already known.
|
I guess I'm a typical metalhead. I wear primarily black band shirts, often of bands few have heard outside of other metalheads, and blue jeans. I hate faded jeans, but I unfortunately own a couple. :( Didn't buy them myself, my girlfriend got them for me, however I will get rid of them and buy some dark pure blue jeans when I get some money. I despise most mainstream music, but I don't have too many metal head friends.
Let's see, what else about me...I'm white who lives in a predominately Mexican area and I'm perfectly comfortable with that. In fact, I generally prefer the company of Mexicans to white people, however the majority of my current friends are white. I also love Mexican food, none of that southwestern bullshit. I mean the real deal that's completely greasy, hot and just damn tasty. I am pretty nerdy, but I don't typically follow a stereotype I suppose. |
I'm English but think of myself as a Kiwi, been here 18 years which is long enough to qualify I think!
I have 3 kids but don't think of myself as a mum, more a taxi driver. I hate any kind of housework or cooking and will leave such jobs as long as I possibly can. I only iron when there's nothing left in anybodys wardrobe. I'm not into fashion at all, jeans tshirts and jandals will do just fine. I hate spending money on clothes for anyone but if the kids mention a new game they want I'm at the shop before they've finished speaking. Their mates all think I'm supercool as we have nearly every console (missing the xbox 360 and the Dreamcast but give me time!) and a whole bookcase full of games, and I know how to burn games and dvd's - although of course I don't actually do that! I don't work and spend most days playing a game, surfing the net or spending my husband's wages online or at the gameshops. I'm also addicted to caffeine and nicoteine. Pretty boring, really :) |

I'm British;
- I'm highly cynical - I'm quite stoic too, the classic British stiff upper-lip - I'm well-mannered, well, fairly polite anyway - I'm far more reserved than extroverted - I guess I have a posh accent (in fact people who live in the same town as me have noticed it) One thing I'm not in the slightest however is patriotic. I also don't drink warm beer >.< |
Quote:
I love techno, DDR music and that stuff. I love sushi and stuff similar to that. I'm a computer science and physics major (with a math minor). I love anime and my computer. And...every girl I've liked is white or mixed (white/asian), which is interesting... And sadly...I can't break dance either...but just to be Asian, I shall learn. GOAL FOR 2007! |
I still have every single cent of the money I got for my Bar Mitzvah. More, actually, thanks to low-risk investments.
|
I'm asian girl
- I'm clumsy - I can't cook, sew or anything - I'm a RPG gamer - Read manga about 3 vol/wk - Love game and anime OST - I'm an easy type which never break the rule in any matter - I've to wake up at 6 am everyday (really) - My all day ends up in hospital till ~5-10 pm - I hate my piles of book |

I'm Asian, and I'm a bad driver.
|
I don't fit into any stereotype. I am my own person and I am unique. I am not into the crap most people my age are.
|
I probably fit into some people's stereotypes about "weird/goth" teenagers in California.
-I have piercings. -I wear a lot of black shirts (though I don't own any black pants) -I had purple hair for a little bit. -I used to wear a black leather collar every day. -I read about serial killers and haunted places. -I used to love corsets and still wish I owned one. Not so typical for a "goth" girl. -My hair is naturally blonde and, though I did dye it bright colors a few times, I leave it blonde. I've never tried to dye it black. -I don't hate my life and I don't want to die. -I don't write poetry. In fact, I hate English. I'm a Math and Science kind of girl. |
I'm skinny 19 year old white guy. I dont know if I fit into stereotypes. But my friend who is gay, said I'm a stereotypical twink for gay ppl. I didnt know what to make of it. ;_;
|
I don't know. People often say I'm weird... but in a good sense! I have always been different from most, so I really don't think I can be classified as "stereotypical". But then again, thinking that you're not a stereotype is quite stereotypical in itself.
Quick facts: 24 year old white male Pretty attractive for being a video game geek Speaks Swedish, English and Japanese fluently Majoring in business Currently single, but working on it ;) Knows how to cook (and I mean more than just spaghetti!) A sucker for chocolate |
Stereotypes are so numerous now a days, that if one doesn't fit into one, they can just pick a stereotype and change themselves to match it. At least, that's what we tell ourselves.
I guess I'm just a 'nerd', though my fascination with video games has waned a lot lately - and I suppose anyone on a board called 'Gamingforce' could be called that, so nevermind, I guess. I'm a hypocrite. Is that a stereotype? |

I'm appalled that you would bash the Boards! You clearly have no taste in music. Well, bonus points for Rush, but I stand by my statement.
|
Asian Nerd:
- majoring in Commerce, minoring in Linguistics - loves videogames (RPGs, beat games, fighting games) - loves anime (shounen, comedy) - has room full of anime/vg plushies, wall scrolls, posters, items - plays piano at 10th Grade RCM Level (vgm music, classical) - addicted to the internet (GFF, Ebay, random articles) - would rather play games that party/go out - enjoys JRock and VGM thoroughly - good grades I don't see how I could get any more stereotypical. |
I'm a stereotypical American born Asian male.
Things which go along with my stereotype: I only dated white girls in Highschool. I friends are majority white or another ethnicity other than Asian. I follow Asian traditional holidays, but have no idea what they mean. I speak English to my parents when they speak Chinese to me. I eat rice with chopsticks. I am good with math and science. I play the piano. I play videogames. CSS should do it. I am trying to get into med school after I graduate. I am heavily integrated into online society. I drive a Honda. (Hydelloon, we're like twins) Things which go against my stereotype: I loath math, science, accounting, finance, economics, etc. I love politics, art, history and foreign languages. I am 6"0. I can speak my language. I actually want to go back to Asia. I hate anime. |
Quote:
Agreed! I love Boards of Canada! :( I'm just a nerd. - I rarely hang out. - I'm shy as hell. - I mainly just play video games and go on the internets. - I wear glasses and had braces at one point. - I like to read. - I watch anime. - I have no fashion sense. |
TEXAN/SOUTHERNER =O

I am a fat neckbeard gamer who is on the internets. I hear that's a fairly popular stereotype and, in this case, completely true.
|
I'm the stereotypical stuck-up antisocial guy everyone hates or doesn't care about.
|
ASOCIAL, dammit. Being antisocial is something entirely different.
I'm all over the place as far as stereotypes go. Fat crazy drunkard, neckbearded internet shut-in, tourettes-guy style fatbody rage, it's really hard to pinpoint one. Maybe just "unbalanced" would do fine. |
I al;ways thought I'm above all stereotypes
I'm gay, but I consider my dressing "straight" (my bf thinks so too) I voted conservative, and I'm an environmentalist ( though i disaprove greenpeace and the likes, some of whom want to give trees rights:eyebrow: ) Well, there might be one i fit into: I'm a french quebecer, and I use religious curse all the time :p |
I browse the internet, so this obviously makes me a 4channer.
Right, GFF? |

I'm Mexican, eat tacos for breakfast, I've robbed a few of you at gunpoint and I drive a stolen vehicle. I also don't speex English so güd.
Also nominating Fire On Ice's post for Post of the Year™ |
I'm a snobby Brit with a sophisticated accent and a totally pretentious vocabulary.
I'm also a metalhead who hangs out with the social outcasts on campus (actually a pretty big group), I like my hair long, I headbang and I have a body-length black leather trenchcoat. |
I'm a hick simply because I live in a wooded area where just about everyone owns a truck and shoots deer.
I'm not sure how I fit into that stereotype since I don't own a truck or shoot deer. Infact... I hardly ever go outside. I certainly don't wear flanel or levis/wranglers. |
Southerner/Texan:
I live in Austin, TX. I voted for Bush (didn't much care for Kerry). I have a Texan drawl. I love greasy green enchiladas with refried beans, rice, chips, and hot sauce. I drive a 4X4 pickup truck. Half of my friends are Mexican. I listen to Country, but mostly Texas Country like Robert Earl Keen, Pat Green etc.. I have pride in my state. |
I am from Philly. I love cheese steaks, I hate the Cowboys and their fans and yes I want to see them and their families all die horrible deaths.
(waiting for someone politically correct to overreact) |
A typical Finn?
- I drink beer frequently - I listen to metal music - I speak terrible english |
- I'm very peaceful yet so revolutionary
- I'm a huge fan of Rock & Metal music - I don't wear make-up - Converse ROCKS ! - I play the piano - I'm taciturn - I can easily get along with people but I keep my distance |

Im middle eastern
-Im not a big fan of america Im a boxer -Im easily aggrivated -Im a bragger |
Art student in Wyoming:
- No one's heard of Wyoming - I think I'm the best god damned artist on the planet yet I'm actually very bad - Though I don't feel the need to dress with a Bohemian sense of mind, I still don't know shit about fashion - I can understand all those weird art movements |
I fit int the Geeky Anime Stereotype at my school. But the funny thing is that I'm in high demand cause I'm where everyone goes to for Computer repair and computer Data.
|
It's funny beacuse some people have asked my previous ex girlfriends if they were dating a rocker. I guess the long hair combined with old jeans and stuff makes them perceive me that way.
I also have this serious look I love to death, extremely serious I'd say. People often ask me if I'm mad at them, I just laugh in the inside. This help me a lot, because some girls think of me as a noble guy who doesn't kill a fly, wolf in sheep clothes I'd say. |
I've wanted to post in this thread, but I took time to think of a lot of things for it. :p
I'm Filipino. So... I was born in Adobo City. I'm short. 5'6+ = GIANT. Toyota Corollas abound in my family. (and to address previous posts: I stereotype most "asians" with Hondas and Filipinos with Toyotas, but I suppose either is fair game) I'm religious. There's a cross in my room, as well as a mini-religious shrine. My cars all have rosaries dangling from the rear view mirror. My cars have stuffed animals in the back. :p Arrive to events late, since it's normal anyway (more of an asian thing). Karaoke at every party. I can dance (except I'm really shy about it). I try to eat rice with every meal. Cupboard full of spam, corned beef, and vienna sausage, the gourmet meats of Filipinos. I take food home from parties. I wash and reuse disposable cups, plates, spoons, forks, etc. Whenever I get situated somewhere, I seem to seek other Filipinos, then collaborate to start the [insert a Filipino adjective] [insert a synonym for "group"] of [insert current location]. I'm close with my family. My mom's a nurse. I want to marry a nurse. Everyone (Filipino) older than me is either an Auntie or an Uncle. I point with my lips. I look around whenever I hear "Sss." or "Hoy!" I scratch my head when I don't know something. Everything can be a drum. <3 basketball (probably not a stereotype). I wear tsinelas (flip-flops) regularly, sometimes with socks. O_o I love the Philippines, but I'm scared of the Filipinos there. :p Fun list. |
It's ok, I'm from Canada, and Canadians scare the shit out of me.
|
I'm an asian nerd:
- loves videogames - plays the piano - would rather play games that party/go out - enjoys VGM thoroughly - works in software development - wears glasses =( |
I'm an asian guy.
I play the violin... im sorta skinny... i eat rice with chopsticks almost everyday. i play videogames like FF... DDR too.. i take the highest level classes in school i like science and math and i wear glasses too... : ( |
quiet, shy, geek, a little out of the ordinary
|
Quiet, laid-back, wore drab colors and pants made of pretty much anything but denim, always had some kind of coat, yawned alot. People'd call me a druggie but I was more of an 'outcast': appreciated by those of limited understanding, scorned by those of none.
|
The black guy that speaks normally in English.
|
I'm trying to figure out what stereotypes I fit into, and it's tough cause they're not super-common.
-I'm tall and skinny and wear glasses or contacts (nerdy) -I lift weights and drink protein shakes on a regular basis (to counteract skinniness - it's slowly working) -I don't have any classifiable accent that I'm aware of -I like to read and play video games, but I have no time for that since I work all the time, most of my time on the computer is at work, where all I can do is post in forums and such. -I like playing tennis, basketball, and going rock climbing and hiking -I'm completely comfortable around the opposite sex -I'm also completely straight -I'm a virgin, but not for religious reasons, not because of fear, and not because of a lack of opportunity. It was just a choice I made each time it came up, and eventually I'll choose to lose my virginity. -I have gigabytes upon gigabytes of porn on my computer. But I almost never look at it. -People say I dress and look stylish (recent development) -People say I'm quiet but confident (last part, another recent development) -I like at least something from every different genre of music, and can flip from Enya to Pantera and back again without batting an eye. -I think scary movies are retarded and fun to laugh at. I guess you could say I'm like, a neo-nerd or a nerd who doesn't seem like a nerd half the time, and does the other half. |
I probably fit into the white teenager nerd/outcast stereotype..
- I wear glasses (sometimes anyway) - I'm obsessed with Mac computers - Obsessed with Russia (anything.. seriously.. cooking/literature/history) - Love history - I play piano/clarinet - I play video games whenever possible - I write poetry once in awhile - Obsessed with conspiracy theories - I wear thick eye-liner every day - Very reclusive - I love to read - I hate mainstream music |
if chameleon was a stereotype, maybe we'd have a place.
|
I'm a heavy metal guy I guess...So a metalhead?
Can't think of anything alse.. Well I might be seen as 'dark'.... |
