Battlestar Galactica
http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/3...caintroij1.jpg
Season three of Battlestar Galactica aired tonight with a 2 hour premier on Scifi. Episode 301 - OCCUPATION / PRECIPICE Your thoughts on tonights episode or the series... |
Good GODS.
I just watched the premiere for S3... and wow, they're still not letting down with the plot twists and cliffhanger endings. I love it. :D This premiere surely didn't disappoint. ...But... holy fuck, did Lee Adama ever get FAT. I'm hoping that's just his character, and not actually Jamie Bamber. Heh. |
He was at Gen-con this summer, and looked fine, so I don't think he gained too much weight. They did use some clever tricks to make him look fat, like that one scene where he's slouching there with his belly sticking out, and the other scene where he's stuffing his face.

Edit: added spoiler tags for Canadia. |
Hmmm, sounds like its going to be good. Its on tonight in Canada... so don't say too much until after tonight. ;) I will let you know what I thought of it. :D
|
Certainly interesting. Using suicide bombers is certainly a controversial move and I can see there being some massive repurcussions when things go "back to normal". I wonder when James Bamber'll take off all that fat make-up (or has he really been eating Burger King for the past 6 months?) They better not kill off Zarek. I'd quite like to see him as Roslin's Vice. I wonder if anyone'll forgive Jammer. Sure he's sold his soul, but perhaps letting Cally go'll redeem him somewhat.
Also, I'm glad that Baltar hasn't gone and completly sold out. He really doens't want to do what he's doing as shown by his reluctance to sign the death warrants. How on Earth he's gonna not get hung, drawn and quartered once this is all done and dusted I don't know. Another thing, this is the first time I've thought that Ellen does actually love Saul. Sure she's frakking good ol' Father Ted the Cylon, but she genuinely does what she does for Saul. Finally, I really hope that this kid of Leoben's and Starbucks comes to nothing. It's my only quibble so far and it's quite a big one. Having Hera's fine, but let's not have another one, 'k? Starbuck goes off on one enough as it is, without having to look after a Brevelle thank you very much. |
Watched the first 45 minutes and I must say it's quite a nice opener. Quite brutal and definitely PG-13 at the least, but I liked it very much. The first ten minutes were the best, the rest was so-so. However, I'm really looking forward to how things will develop.
Pretty weak that Baltar didn't want to get executed, though. And I dunno but I think Lee pretty much rocks now that he's kinda, well, fat. |
Sadly, for those who saw the preview that Sci-Fi showed of coming episodes:
Spoiler:
It was a good episode overall, although I don't care for Starbuck's kid. I'm betting the Cylon guy came back and pushed the kid down the stairs in order to force her maternal instincts to kick in. When she finds that out she'll have no problem ditching them both. |
BSG is getting better and better.
After the best (or "worst" in terms of wanting to know what happens next) cliffhanger ending in history, they come up with this. Damn! So great. I love it how the series actually dares to treat its characters really, really roughly... Can't wait for next week... |
Thank God that Adama's gonna get rid of the 'tasche. It's ridiculous. As for Lee going back to normal weight, goooooood. That fat suit must be getting on his tits.
|
Well I dunno but I like him being fat. Oh well. I watched the second half and I must say that I'm pretty impressed. The mood has become much more darker and everything has become much more brutal, but that's not bad.
|
I enjoyed the episode overall, but I was annoyed at how thick the writers were laying on parallels to the current situation in Iraq:
-Suicide bombers -Cylons believing that their invasion was to "help" the humans -Recruiting humans into a Cylon police force, then the humans blowing them up It's not the first time writers have tried to comment on current events, but could they make it a little less obvious? |
I actually like the "Starbuck has a half-Cylon baby" thing actually. Here's why: the writers have set up the two different half-human, half-Cylon babies to create conflict later on. Think about it. Sharon's half-Cylon kid was conceived out of love, whereas Starbuck's half-Cylon kid was created in the baby farms. With one of each "method" being successful, this sets up for more conflict within the Cylon ranks about how they should proceed with humanity.
Definitely psyched for the rest of this season though. Looks like it'll be another excellent one. Well, just so long as we don't have another musical flop like the Pegasus theme from season 2. Ugh, I wanted to punch Bear McCreary in the face for that auditory atrocity. |
Nah, Hera's fine, but this new sporg is gonna annoy me. I can see why the whole conflict aspect would appeal, but seriously, there's enough of that as there is. Especially when we get back to Galactica. Saul's actions on New Caprica'll have repurcussions for a long time to come.
Oh, and I liked the Pegasus theme... |
Quote:
|
Seriously, I hardly even noticed it first time around. Got the soundtrack and on the first way through I though "Hey, I remember that track. It was nice and happy". Turns out it was Pegasus.
|
Holy fuck, take a look at what's going on at the official BSG forums! :o
Seems some more conservative members of the US Armed Forces slowly begin to "dislike" the show for "pro raghead propaganda". |
To be expected. There was no way in hell this was gonna go down well with some of the more Conservative members of the public.
|
Hopefully they won't be able to stir up enough of a ruckus to bring the series down for being "un-american" or something...
Or by just pushing the quota down enough so it gets cancelled... >_> |
Once again, it's really easy to draw parallels to current events where there might not be as many as it seems. Just because they have "suicide bombers" doesn't instantly mean this is a commentary on the current situation in Iraq. As Roslin said - they're desperate people.
|
I think the use of suicide bombers is 'fair' for the predicament they're in. Saul said himself that a suicide mission's a suicide mission, whether they be in planes or with bombs on their back. Seeing as how they lack planes, bombs are the only thing they've got.
|
Plus people seem to forget that the general use of suicide bombing isn't NEW to the series. The Cylons were using suicide bombers in season 1.
Okay, it seems the beef the GIs seem to have is that they feel "forced" to "sympathise" with the bombers and thus smell pro-raghead propaganda... *sigh* |
Holy crap, the first three episodes of season three were freaking amazing. Even better than LOST. I totally dig the atmosphere and how things are finally getting exciting. Definitely looking forward to this weeks episode.
|
Tonights episode was amazing!!! Hope everyone else watched.
|
OMG I love this show. It definitely is the best thing on TV IMHO. Battlestar Galactica is like the Xenogears/Xenosaga of modern television, seriously. I definitely need to get the OST as soon as I can find it. Anyone have it on FTP or Torrent?
Quick survey, what's everyone's favorite character? Mine's is definitely Adama. Mostly because of his father-like character and military genius. Spoiler:
Was anyone around for the original Battlestar Galatica? lol |
Favourite Character? Take one educated guess.
There's no one who's able to exeed Baltar. |
So, who saw S03E04 o.O?
I almost thought Adama was history >.< |
I've just started watching this show with Season 3 since I just got cable. I have to say the effects sequences and ship scenes are impressive.

Ok, I just finished watching the season premiere, and hopefully will be watching three and four sometime tonight. The end of the premiere is intense... and the way I have been reading these posts, its only geting better. (I tried not to read all of the spoilers.)
|
I LOVE BSG!
I've got seasons 1, 2, and the season 3 episodes as they come out on my ftp (see sig). |

Wow - I was on the edge of my computer chair for all of EP5!
Spoiler:
|
Good lord, episode 4 has been awesome. Most probably the best TV series episode I've seen in ages. I definitely like how - instead of Lost, which has been quite disappointing so far in my opinion - BSG is getting better and better, because it's actually going somewhere. Also, good thing Adama Sr. got rid off his moustache and Jr. is losing some weight ;)
|
As of episode 6, Apollo LOST THE FAT SUIT. WORLDS OF YES.
*Ahem* Yeah, I thought the current season didn't have much direction to go after leaving New Caprica [aside from finding Earth], but they proved me once again. Sticking Baltar on the Cylon Baseship, and the introduction of the Cylon virus... Totally awesome. I hope they continue to please the crowd through the entire season. :D Also-- Giving Sharon the callsign 'Athena'? Best move ever. I love it. |
I'm not overly find of the new callsign. Doesn't suit her.
|
Quote:
I'm slightly confused why they'd callsign Sharon as "Athena." While it's kinda romantic, her personality isn't entirely Athena-like to me. But then, the last episode in general just seemed full of "WTF are the producers doing?" moments (i.e. it wasn't that great) but it may just have seemed that way due to excessive talking done by the people I was watching with. *growls at excessive during BSG talkers* |
*revive*
So ya. It comes back tonight on its new night. Just a reminder since someone just mentioned it to me and I had no clue. That is all. |
Yeah, I wish SciFi advertised its return more.
They blitzed the hell out of "JANUARY 21 SUNDAY AT 10" right as the show was going on hiatus and that was it. |
Of course, gotta get everybody excited about The Dresden Files! Screw Galactica. Who even watches that?
|
Poor Gaius. lolz
|
And Battlestar Galactica strikes again. :D
Just watched last night's new episode, and... sweet merciful Zeus, they're still not dissapointing. Well, with one small exception: the elimination of a character... I wish they didn't have to do that. And near the beginning, when Sharon 'died'... that was deep. Aside from that, though... I totally called the Starbuck connection. I was going through old screenshots I'd made the other day, cleaning up some of my folders, and came across this: That's a screenshot from episode 2.02, when Starbuck and Helo are at the apartment on Old Caprica. I don't know what it's going to lead into, though... Looks promising, whatever the case may be. I wonder who the final five are? And I wonder what's going to happen to Gaius? |
i was not a fan of the lack of explosions: no nukes and no blowing up of that eye of jupiter shrine thing were fail...
i like how at the end, they just accepted that it really was their sharon that returned. snaps... |
Spoileroo. There, you were warned.
Well, technically they CAN'T know wether it's their Sharon. At least this one looked scared enough for starters... This is getting interesting. Gaius AND Caprica abroad... Wonder how God will respond to that. (Note, that Tellurian refers to the Six in Gaius imagination as "God") |
I thought it was an awesome episode. Lots of people think it was rushed, but I thought the pass was very good. The second half of the season is looking awesome.
|
I was checking out the episode page for 'Rapture' over at Battlestarwiki.com and I saw a high-res image of the Final Five.
Check it out for yourselves and see if you can identify any familiar faces. I swear that one with his arm out looks like Apollo. :psyduck: |
Quote:
Although one of them does look somewhat like Ander's but it isn't. It was interesting to see Number 3 boxed. Although that was expected. It'll be interesting to see where this season leads. I can't wait to add it to my DVD collection. |
Someone had also noted that one of the final five looked suspiciously like Cally...but, again, they're just stand-ins. So rah - we still have nearly no idea what's going on w. the Final Five.
|
Haha, I wasn't paying too much attention at the beginning of the episode, so when I saw it, I went crazy for a bit, rewinded and let it continue... oh. :DVR:.
Interesting interrogation episode, though they probably should've brought in Jack Bauer for it. :tpg: |
Now we're getting back to where it belongs.
Baltar is much more fun when he's interacting with real people compared to Baltar being fooled around by his un-fellow Cylons. |
If they could just be done with the Starbuck/Anders/Apollo/Whatever Her Name Is love mess and get on with some real plot, the show would be much better. I don't need non-stop action, but that whole arc is annoying.
|
It's pretty important for character development though.
Might be annoying for people who dig old school sci-fi stuff with straight up "big plot" only events being dealt with during the episodes and with little character development on a less epic level. And this love square relationship thing is pretty important for Starbuck and Apollo, who happen to be among the central figures of the show. |
I feel like the character development that is so famed on Galactica is getting way rushed this season so far. This feeling might just be a personal thing, but I feel like Roslin's character has changed so dramatically/is getting jacked around by the writers and having to make some really dumb decisions which aren't very Roslin-like at all due to some really, um, overdone events (i.e. Anyone else note that there's been a whole lot more screaming at people this season?).
Something feels disasterously disorganized between the characters on le Galactica. On the other hand, it seems like Roslin/Ad. Adama shippers are having a field day these days. [SPOILER ALERT] Baltar's still interesting, but I'm so sad at what has become of Lt. Gaeta. He was among my most favourite characters for the first two seasons and the beginning of those current one (especially the "secret jury" episode), but this whole ballpoint thing is a bit on the unbelievable side.... |
I guess we can track a lot of this season's character changes back to the whole situation on New Caprica.
I mean, everybody - virtually - got out of there changed. And in... Well in all cases for the worse. Sure, it's kind of a cheap explanation, but at least it's a pretty believable one. |
I'm kind of wondering what Baltar whispered to Gaeta in the cell. For a few minutes after that, I was thinking something along the lines of "HOLYCRAP Gaeta is a Cylon!"... But now I'm not so sure. Makes me wonder, because when Deanna saw the Final Five, she said 'You... I'm so sorry...' which means she must've met him/her before, right? Hmm.
Also... the scene with all the kids around the goo-pool with Baltar... I wonder if those children were actually 'young' representations of the 12 Cylon models? Mainly because there was one there that had an eyepatch just like Tigh. |
I'm waiting for them to explain either of those scenes. They'll prolly eventually reveal what Baltar said...but the scene w. the kids was just odd and I couldn't tell what exactly it was supposed to represent at all (But I can partially blame that on a conversation with my sister I was having at the moment...)
Apologies, btw, about my horrific writing in my post before this one. T_T I was in a rush...and it's so poorly constructed... |
In the podcast, Ron said that the kids were there to represent the innocence of the victims that died during Baltar's rule on New Caprica and those during the bombing of the colonies.
Just a symbolic gesture thats all. |
Yes. Didn't you notice what was probably supposed to be radiation burns on them?
|
Little known fact: Rosa Parks was a Sagittaron.
|
That was an interesting episode, even though it really was just a filler one since nothing progressed; but I liked it.
I didn't really catch what happened in that extra scene. =/ Next episode looks intense though. |
It was ok, I guess, but I'm tired of the "episode as a parable for modern issues" concept. Give us something that advances the plot or is more science-fictiony, but don't shove life lessons down our throats. At least there wasn't much of the Apollo/Starbuck love thing.
|
Quote:
|
I loved the last 10 minutes of the episode. It was pretty intense. But I have to agree that the whole parable/compare to modern day stuff is kind of annoying. I guess the writers are just trying different things and how they could apply to anything.
|
Nutty wouldn't have cared so much about the parable thing if they'd actually killed off Dee. The joy of being rid of her would have been too much.
The thing I found a little off about this episode was how Doc Roberts actually helped the half-Cylon baby. He said it himself at the end, "The only thing worse than a Cylon is a Sagittaron." You'd think a racist so willing to murder his patients would have no problem killing a half-Cylon child. After all, it would be consistent with how the treatments down there had already been going. |
Quote:
As for Doc Roberts, a) he said Col. Tigh said that quote, not himself, b) it would have been highly suspicious if the baby died under his care, and c) he gave Dee the medicine, and she was a Sagittaron. Doc Roberts was trying to hide his actions, and he couldn't very well kill high profile people. It might have been better if they'd cast a different actor to play Doc Roberts. I don't know the guy's name, but he always plays seemingly shifty good guys who turn out to be evil. |
Yeah, it was Col. Tigh's quote, but he was using it in a way that seemed like it was his own belief as well. I mean, it's kind of an understood that all the humans except for Helo hate the Cylons.
As for hiding his actions, if he was trying to do that then he really sucked at it. 90% mortality rate for Sagittaron patients back on Caprica? Injecting the people with a poison that could be easily found if an autopsy was performed? He wasn't really covering his tracks so much as depending on everyones' prejudices to keep him safe. I agree that they should have chosen a different actor though. It was obvious he'd be shifty and evil the moment he was shown. |
Quote:
|
If your goal is to kill Sagittarons and be subtle about it, you keep the mortality rate at a believable number like 40-50%. That would've still been obscenely high considering the other races were 6-10%, but it could have been easily explained by the patients refusing medical treatment until the last possible moment.
|

That being said, I'm not enjoying any of the characters' new directions after they left NC. Granted, the episodes on the planet and the rescue by the two Battlestars was an awesome set of episodes, but after that arc was finished the season's been on a down-slide. I wish more was being done between Baltar, Gaeta and Six. There's so much potential for the angle of "bastard ex-president/traitor back with the fleet" but they're not using it. They'll probably just save it until the end of the season to try to sustain a cliffhanger over the break. As for Woman King, I liked it. It was just one of those "what's going on in the fleet" episodes that is great filler. And we finally got to see more of what Helo's been going through after Sharon came back from the Cylon fleet. I just don't understand why there isn't more suspicion over Sharon being the same one or not. I mean, how do they know? Sure, the viewers saw her, but the human fleet ought to be a little more concerned. One of the Sharon models did shoot Adama after all. Additional Post: A little bit of BSG news: Sci Fi channel greenlit Season 4; ordered 13 episodes. Depressingly enough, it won't return until Jan. 2008. :( But the news of a new Cylon by the end of this season sounds promising. Any theories, guys? |
Sounds a bit too difficult to make a guess who the Cylon could be. There's been speculation it might be Gaeta or Dee (Has she had her blood tested? As a Saggitarrian do they allow that? - Yes I spelled Saggi wrongly - I think). Definitely couldn't be Adama or Saul as they were in the first Cylon war. Can't be the president or the vice (Tom). Starbuck I'm not too sure, MAYBE YES MAYBE. *shrugs* should get interesting.
|
That's the glory of this show though, they keep you guessing until the very end. On top of that, they make you believe one thing [in this case--they're probably trying to string us along to think that it's going to be Starbuck], and then they'll throw you for a loop right at the last minute. Probably on the season finale. XD
So yeah, they'll probably show us that the Cylon is like... Helo. And he had a baby with Sharon. TWO CYLONS HAD A BABY DUN DUN DUN. :tpg: |
So what did everyone think of last night's episode? All I can say is finally we have a good episode, with no trace of stupid love triangles or (Lee) Adama angst. The plot didn't feel as contrived as some of the other recent shows.
Spoiler:
Also, not sure why someone went and created another thread when we already had one. |
Quote:
But yeah, good episode. So with no more love triangles, hopefully they can kill off Dee... and Lee... :p And yes, that showdown scene was epic. I actually didn't expect it to work out like it did in the end. Good stuff. |

We need Fat-Suit Apollo back. He was cool this season back when he had his glorious gut. I'd like to see Starbuck killed off, but sadly they've already foreshadowed that she's some kind of prophet. |
There was an article from TVguide.com I read a few weeks ago saying that one major character would be killed off before the end of the season, and rumor has it that Starbuck will be revealed as a Cylon. I have my doubts, but I'd like to see the end of her one way or the other.
On a different note, what about that accent of Baltar's? I love the way they dubbed it in, so it sounded like he was channeling Satan. |

That episode seemed so random. =/ |
Yeah, too bad she's probably not dead. They made such a fuss about her hallucination and implying that she serves some sort of greater purpose, she's probably ascended to a higher plane or something. Since Leondre (or whatever his name was) wasn't really Leondre, maybe he's a higher being. MAYBE HE's FROM 1980!!

I dunno, does it get any more obvious than that? Spoiler:
|
I love to see a sci-fi show deal with real-life issues more deeply than the supposed "dramas" of the day can muster. The way they dealt with the whole abuse issue was very interesting...
|
I can only hope that Starbuck will be cooler and less whiny as a Cylon and/or demi-god.
Like naz said, this episode seemed a little too random. With any luck the grief Lee will suffer over talking her into flying again drives him to gorge himself on Twinkies until he once again become Fat-Suit Apollo. |
Quote:
|
I'm confused by the end of tonight's episode. Is Lempkin supposed to be Baltar's son or his father? The note would seem to indicate that he's Baltar's son, but the two of them look the same age.
Also, kudos to the Adamastache reference. |
Lampkin was nothing more than a Gaius zealot from what I gathered.
The note at the end was referring to Lee driving further away from his father and becoming Gaius' ally in the legal proceedings. |
Quote:
Hmm. Whatever happened to the cylons? I think they're still pretty badass and could eradicate the humans at any given moment... |
So I guess Apollo's marriage is a Dee-saster at this point. (har har)
What was up with Lee resigning his commission? He and his dad had an argument, sure, but I find it hard to believe that there was enough anger to give up his military career over. There would have to be a pattern of disagreement, and other than the past couple of episodes, Lee and the Admiral have gotten along swimmingly. Maybe it's supposed to relate back to Starbuck's death, but it's really not a believable plot twist. Guess he's just Mr. Fat Suit Apollo now. |
I can't say I'm particularly happy with the way BSG has gone this season. I was originally dubious about a "remake" without any input from Richard Hatch but by the middle of the First season I was hooked and Season 2 was even better. This year however, I'm loosing faith. I don't think that enough has actually "happened" this year in comparison to previous seasons, there's been too much filler episodes that make it look like a space-bound soap-opera as opposed to military sci-fi. I'm glad they're returning with only 13 episodes in '08, maybe the writing will be tighter.
|
Oh, there's the cylons. I was wondering if they were still around. ¬_¬
|
Yeah the 3rd season so far has been sort of a downhill ride. They've gone too far into character depth and internal fleet politics.
Big yawn. |
As a fan of character development and politics I've loved it. To me, this season has had some of the best episodes throughtout the entire run of the show. Season 3's first half was definitely better than Season 2's as well.
|
Some of the "non-event" episodes were good, but I kept wanting something to actually happen for too long. There's been about 10 "filler" episodes this season, that won't pull the ratings needed unfortunatly.
|
I just learned that Battlestar Galactica has had it's previously reported 13-Episode 4th Season extended to 22 Episodes! David Eick and Ron Moore have hinted that they expect that season 4 will be the finale for the series so it's likely that Sci-Fi has let them go out with all guns blazing and with a proper conclusion to the saga.
More info abou this (and the BSG TV Movie here: http://uk.tv.ign.com/articles/775/775022p1.html |
Oh God, I hear disembodied Bob Dylan songs, so I must be a Cylon. Time to go emo.

On the topic of the song that plays through the last ten minutes or so... I don't suppose anyone has ripped the song, or has an mp3 [or other audio format] of this version of the song yet, do they? I really liked it, and don't think I want to wait until summer when the soundtrack comes out.

I wouldn't be surprised if they jumped another year or more to begin Season 4... |

Seriously: I'd rewind time to the Pegasus story. 1. Admiral Kane would have survived until the end of Season 2 (She should have been in for longer, but at least we'll have her in the TV movie before Season 4). She may have been murdered by a human as opposed to a Cylon for her opposition of settling down on New Caprica. 2. During the rescue at New Caprica in Season 3, Fat Apollo doesn't disobey Adama and continues with half the fleet in the Pegasus. Galactica survives the New Caprica rescue with the other half of the fleet but they are unable to recalculate jump-points or whatever to reach Pegasus and her fleet and both halves of the fleet remain seperated for about half the season. It would have been intresting for the writers to show the two different command styles of the Adama's with their respective fleet problems. As Apollo and Starbuck would be seperated we would also be spared the "love quadrangle" of Season 3. 3. Pegasus comes to Galacticas rescue at the Eye Of Jupiter and at this point the ship is sacrificed. 4. Spoiler:

I'm still sure about whatever the "Head Six" and the "Head Gaius" of Dr. Baltar and of Caprica Six is, it's gotta be something divine. I've had this theory since quiet some time that Head Six actually is God, or at least an "angel" and not just Gaius being nuts.
This WAS a pretty good episode indeed. And it's even (again) a worse cliffhanger than the previous ones, basically because Galactica just began to be rock-ish again (REALLY rock-ish, like spacebattle and big revelations and Baltar on the run rock-ish) after a very slow and partially dull season and *bang* it's over and we have to wait till January. :( Spoiler:
I'm all pumped for next season... Sadly, it'll be a long night till then... :( Additional Spam: Oh, and by the way, does anybody know if and when there'll be an OST for Season 3? :( |
In the original BSG series there was that "ship of light," I can't remember much about it, I think it was a team sent from the future to help the Galatica? And the (male in that series) Starbuck crashed on a planet and was left behind, but via the help of the ship of light bore some super-smart child who was sent to the Galactica and was a key character in the shitty spin-off show.
Here, in Prez Laura's last vision, there were those 5 guys in all white sitting in a circle looking at them. Starbuck is left supposedly dead on a planet and comes back to help everyone. Wouldn't surprise me if this new development is a play on the "team of light" thing from the original BSG. I'll have to re-learn what they were about on Wikipedia later. Edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_of_Lights Hmm, not quite as I remembered. |
I'm also curious about what they're going to find if/when they reach Earth. The point above about the Final Five being resurrected on Earth is an interesting one, but then... Where would Starbuck have gotten her Viper?
Anyway, I think one of 4 things could happen when they reach Earth: Scenario A: They find an 'Alternate Universe' Earth, where the 13th Colony has settled and grown to a population of a few million, somewhere on the planet. They [presumably] have the same type of technologies as the other 12 colonies, maybe even more advanced. Scenario B: They find an 'Alternate Universe' Earth, where there is no human life. Presumably, the 13th Colony has either died off, or left clues to their possible 'new location'. [Not very likely, in my eyes, but still a possibility if they do continue past the fourth season.] Scenario C: They find Earth, exactly as it is today--poplulated with 6-7 billion people, but they still hold the beliefs of the original colonies: the Gods, and such. Scenario D: They find OUR Earth, exactly as it is in real life--by people who have no idea what the '13th Colony' is, and would freak out when a bunch of humans and human-robots suddenly dropped out of the sky. Just a few points to ponder. I personally like Scenario D, but that would set up the entire series for a cliffhanger ending, assuming that season 4 is indeed the last. About the S3 soundtrack, it's slotted for Summer 2007. No exact date yet, that I know of. [If you're wondering, the cover of 'All Along the Watchtower' WILL be on it.] |
Scenario D has already been done (with the horrific Galactica 1980). Trust me, you don't want that scenario, nor do you want Starbuck to have had some superintelligent baby come back to annoy the hell out the Galatica crew.
I had forgotten about the ship of light and the advanced beings who helped the humans in the original series. They were ok there, because they represented one possible route for the humans to find Earth, but to introduce them in the new series in the 4th (and probably last) season seems like deus ex machina. Unfortunately, though, that does seem a very logical conclusion to the cliffhanger, since I highly doubt that Chief Tyrol, Tigh, etc. are Cylons. |

I'm sorry! XD I didn't know it held such terrible memories for you guys. I didn't watch the original series, so... yeah.

I don't know if it's just me, but... they kept panning to one woman in the 'audience' during the trial. When they gave the verdict, they had one particularly good shot:
Spoiler:
Anyway, when I saw that, I did a double take, and actually had to rewind, and pause on the frame for a few seconds. Why? She looks a lot like Deanna, #3. Or maybe it is just me. |
That's the woman who begged Baltar to bless her baby in the previous episode, so any resemblance to Deanna wasn't intentional. They just wanted to show that Baltar's supporters were in the crowd too.
|
That's what I figured, but it still made me stop and look again.
Then again, who knows? Maybe she is a #3, but changed her hair and such so as not to be noticed. |
*bump*
I just wanted to say I watched Battlestar Galactica: Razor last night. Stephanie Chaves-Jacobsen / Major Shaw is incredibly hot. I miss BSG so much, it almost makes me cry when I think of how Season 4 will be the last, and it's not airing until March next year. :( That is all. |
I don't feel like making a thread just for Season 4 since the whole BSG story just continues anyway. Maybe a mod can rename this thread to just "Battlestar Galactica Discussion" or something. Anyway, this text is just filler for the upcoming spoiler [from tonight's episode].
Spoiler:
I'll probably watch it again tonight, at least the end, just to see the preview for next week; but I like this live stream idea. Will definitely do again next week. |
Well uhh, I watched 4.01 last night, and I'm definitely not sure whether I will continue watching this season or not. The episode was almost okay overall, but uhh, this "Baltar the God and Savior" story is fucking wack, how could they screw it up like that, I don't believe it.
|
About Cally:
I totally called it as soon as the episode started. I'm not sure what it was... but she looked different. Did they have to replace her actress or something? Either way, that was sort of a big hint in the direction of where they were taking the episode. And loved it. And Baltar... The whole Baltar as a religious entity sort of irks me, but I'm sure they'll pull something off by the end of the season to make it completely legitimate. And good. Or something. I hope. |
I'm not liking the religious aspect of this season... A little bit too overwhelming in my opinion.
Can't wait till they reveal the fifth one at last. |
I'm really impressed, they actually manage to deliver a thoroughly coherent and very tense season so far.
Season IV is suffering from Babylon 5 syndrom. And by suffering I mean it's what brings the show back to it's old strenghts. Doesn't happen that often that a franchise truly recovers from a period of suck. |
I'm really enjoying the religious aspect of this season as well as comming closer to revealing the 5 cylons. of course WE know who 4 are.. I've always thought baltar was one of them.
Also looking forward to finding out why 6 and baltar see each other when no one else can. The religious aspect combine with the other seasons suicide bombers sorta reminds me of the clash between peacefull and non peacefull religions, OR how some religions can seem peacefull but use it as a ruse to cause chaos, murder and such.. I'm not 100% sure where they are taking this but we shall see. On a side note I wonder if any one has every argueed Boomer or Six.. |
i'm so happy this season is finally here. i can't believe it took so long. I remember sitting in awe of the season finale only to find out 2 hours later that my wife was pregnant with little pfitz3. what a night of shockers that was...
something has been sticking in my head ever since last weeks episode. When Athena was having the opera house vision towards the end that paralelled with alot of the events that were happening real time, does anyone think it strange or too coincidental that at the same time during the opera house vision where 6 picks up Hera and takes her away, Tyrol is the one to pick up Hera IRL. It just seems like they are going to go somewhere with that little bit. Am I reading too much into it? oh and it's been a long time, i almost forgot about this place, amazing what you can think of when you're up with a migrane at 3am |
I think that part of the episode, she wasn't actually having the vision. I think they were just making a comparison, showing that what she saw was coming true. Or something. Maybe.
|
Um, so the mid-season finale was a couple weeks ago, and it was easily one of the best episodes in the history of man. A lot happened, and it all happened fairly quick, but it never felt rushed. The post-apocalyptic earth was probably the best choice of earth as to not be something too cheesy, and will of course move the plot along. So no BSG til 2009. =/
Oh, and they totally forgot that there's still one more unknown cylon. :tpg: |
I'm not entirely sure they 'forgot'. When D'Anna first spoke to Roslin after the big Hub battle, she said 'Four. Four are in the fleet.'
...Thinking that over, was she bullshitting Roslin, or was she saying the last Cylon is somewhere else? [ie Earth, with the Cylons, somewhere else?] |
The final fifth cannot be in the fleet. As far as can tell, there really isn't anything special about the final fifth compared to the others of the final five. I don't see why D'anna would refrain from asking about the final fifth if he/she were in the fleet. The only logical explanation is that the final fifth is not in the fleet. Maybe D'anna does not even know who the final fifth is, as in he/she is not Colonial or crap.
The final fifth may be on Earth and may have used some funky device to trigger the music playing in the other final five within the colonial fleet and to activate the specific viper emergency beacon. *shrug* |
ok, so since the new season has started again, i'm wondering if anybody is still watching or did they give up since we had to wait another year almost to see the final episodes.
things have been interesting so far. Ellen as the final cylon. Zarek and Gaeta leading a mutiny. WTF is Starbuck. Hot Dog is really little Nicky's dad, not Tyrol. Lots of questions to be answered in 6 episodes. |
There's actually no questions to be answered in the final episodes. Everything pretty much resolved in the latest episode, all that is left is the final fate of the entire fleet. Seems kind of a bleak ending to just leave them wondering around in space.
The only thing that has NOT been revealed is the one last remaining cylon. It is not Ellen, that was just Saul's hallucination. I'm sort of still thinking it is Zak. That would actually explain something. But the final episodes have been so shitty, that, ultimately, I don't care anymore. |
You'd be wrong there, Kish. I'd watch this week's episode's preview were I you:
Yeah, I was similarly cynical until I saw this. |
|||||
While I wasn't overjoyed with Ellen being the "final" cylon, IMO it does fit. And at this point the writers have opened the flood gates with 13th tribe cylon resurrection tech, anyone in the fleet could be a 13th tribe skinjob. They just wouldn't be one of the 5 priests that were devoted to the cylong god that everyone puts so much stock in.
I have plenty of questions. WTF is the deal with the opera house vision? What will happen to Tigh and Caprica 6's kid? WTF is so important about Hera that they retcon'd Nicky into not being a half breed to so she could be the only one? Who nuked Earth? Is it our Earth? If so is it our past or our future? Since there were 13 tribes are there 13 different models of skinjobs? WTF is the 6 that is always in Baltar's head? Maybe some of those have been answered and I don't get it. Maybe they will be left for me to ponder on my own little self. I'm still ejoying the ride. It's better than watching Superman whine about Lana for 8 seasons. |
My brother came up with an interesting theory that's had me thinking for a while:
Spoiler:
|
What was up with Dee offing herself? Did the actress just want out? It seemed sudden and pointless.
|
Dee blowing her brains out was pretty cool. There was no hesitation. She basically said "fuck it i can't take anymore of this flyin around for no reason bullshit, i'm out" and did it. Not sure what the point of it was. maybe they used it as the straw that broke the camel's back. from what i gathered, once everyone saw or heard what happened to Dee, they all went crazy or said fuck it things have to change. The two people in the room right afterwards ended up being part of the mutiny, Gaeta and Selix. Adama was ready to blow his own head off. who knows, maybe they're trying to tie up the stories of all the major and quasi-major characters, maybe they decided Lee and Kara should end up together so they had to off Dee.
as for the someone other than Ellen has to be the final cylon theories, i think we (me included) are looking for more than what's there. some of the spoiler stuff on a couple of the bsg boards noted that the reveal of the final cylon wouldn't be mind blowing. i just don't think we'll get a twist on the final fifth, save Ellen coming back and she's sided with Cavil's evil cylons. |
Well, as much as I'd like to see someone other than Ellen as the fifth, the producers have confirmed that she is, in fact, the final Cylon. There's got to be some kind of twist with her, though. It just wouldn't be BSG without it. Heh.
In the preview for No Exit though, when we see Ellen in the tank, it almost looks like D'Anna, with the darker hair and all. |
I'm rephrasing my words a bit. Ellen is still useless, but the shit maelstrom her return caused sort of gave rise to a new catalyst in the ship. A wish to reunite the two completely different races. I wonder how furiously John is going to react to that. Will he be the final boss, so to speak?
This series could end on a very heart touching note, I'm hoping now. Before this, I was sort of hoping for a big bang at the end of the series, but things seem to fade back out. I realise, the big bang was in between complete solaces. That is one of the ways to understand our universe's time before OUR big bang. Yeah, I take things too metaphysically. |
So they're abandoning ship...which makes it expendable enough to lose dramatically in an all-out final showdown.
Bringing Boomer back was a fantastic idea. I'm glad that this show isn't slowing down at all. |
It faltered a little, but holy FUCK they're bringing sexy back for the final stretch. Last week's episode was enjoyable, but holy FUCK the prior episode (Someone to Watch Over Me) had one of the best climaxes I've ever seen in an episode of anything ever.
I'm rather excited for the finale, but at the same time, kinda sad that it's going to end soon. I really do hope that they're actually going to explain the few remaining loose ends (Baltar's hallucinatory Six, Six's hallucinatory Baltar, everything about Starbuck, number seven/Daniel, whatever else I've missed...) Bring on Caprica! |
the sad thing is that no matter how good Caprica may be, it just won't be BSG. I wonder if they'll ever really say what Starbuck is. One episode they make it look like she might be a cylon/human mutt (maybe the piano player was a Daniel that survived Cavil's Cain/Able shit fit) or is she a head being/ angel that everyone can see? I'm very excited about this finale.
|
So now it's over. The final episode lasted a grand 1,5 hours and reminded me more and more of Return of the King as it went on and on. The fates of Starbuck, Anders and Lee really got to me. Those three were what the series was about to me. "See you on the other side."
Out of interest I also watched The Last Frakkin' Special, which was a load of bullshit. They just gave an excuse to why the storyline sucked for two seasons: "oh... yeah... this... uh... show was about...uhh... characters and stuff... we explain that in the last episode watch it and stop complaining..." Well, it's sort of true. Quote:
Dean Stockwell's horrible one liners almost ruined the whole episode for me. I DO NOT WANT SCREWBALL COMEDY IN MY EPIC SERIOUS BATTLESTAR GALACTICA FINAL EPISODE. |
I thought the battle against the Cylon base was pretty spiffy, though you'd think the humans would've been more prepared for a quick exit rather than a strategy of "get Hera quickly, then duke it out with every last Cylon before leaving." The only thing that really bugged me about that half was Dean Stockwell's suicide after the truce was broken. He was obsessed with survival, and then he shot himself rather than going out fighting like everyone else. What the hell?
Once they found Earth the episode became pretty crappy. Maybe it wouldn't have been quite as bad without SciFi interrupting for commercials every 5 minutes, but it was just so corny. Practically every loose end was resolved with "lol angels did it" which was absolute shit in regard to Starbuck since they ran every conceivable test on her after her return. She was biological and shouldn't have just vanished. Considering that the whiny civilian population has been a running theme since the beginning, it was a tremendous cop-out to say they were all fine with abandoning every bit of civilization they had for the hope of a clean slate. I think I would've preferred Galactica 1980, and that's saying something. |
Right, now that it's been long enough after watching the finale that I can say stuff about it other than: "AWESOME!" I'll try and write up my thoughts about it properly:
AWESOME! One hell of a finale. I keep bringing up quality comparisons to Babylon 5 and I'm not gonna stop here. It's the best finale I've seen to a show since 'Sleeping in Light' and like 'Sleeping in Light' it bloody well made me tear up. Seeing Galactica and the rest of the fleet heading towards the Sun gave me a lump in my throat, then Roslin's death finally made me well up properly. I don't even like Roslin, but Olmos made that scene all the more powerful. Baltar realising he'll be spending the rest of his life as a farmer got me going too. The action in this episode was immense! It exceeded my best expectations in every way imaginable. I was watching it and thinking: "Holy Moly, Galactica's taking an absolute pounding but still not blown up. Don't make 'em like they used to." And when you think about it, they really don't. Look at Pegasus. Pretty much in tip-top condition for the battle over New Caprica, but barely lasted long at all. Compare that to Galactica in the finale, a ship which by all intents and purposes should fall apart if you sneezed on her, yet there she is taking rail gun rounds, missiles, RAMMING A BLOODY GIANT BASESHIP like she's brand new! I reckon she just flew straight through the Sun, she's that tough. As for the actual meat and potatoes of the show, I got the answers to the questions I wanted mostly. I don't much give a damn about Hera, what I cared about was the Opera House and Head Baltar/Six. I would've liked to have known exactly what Kara was as well, but I honestly have no idea. Angel, apparition, God, who the hell knows. The only thing I didn't like was the little montage at the end. I expected it to say "Domo arigato misuta Robotto" rather than Ronald D Moore, but there we go. Overall, an amazing finale and now with BSG ended and The Clone Wars finished for the season, all I have to download now is Lost :'(. What am I gonna do with myself now?! |
Oh yeah, I forgot, but did someone else notice. The special effects of this final episode were complete shit compared to the prime work seen on almost every other episode. Seems well rushed, and that "attack" on the Cylon base was just complete waste of time. Random shooting with no sense of orientation for the viewer, maybe because of the horrible camerawork.
Yeah, a complete failure from the technical crew. |

The normal centurions didn't look too bad, but the old-style Cylons had terrible CG effects. Considering there was never more than one or two of them on the screen at the same time it would have been a lot cooler if they'd just used costumes like the old show.
|
Great ending. It did remind me of the ending of Metal Gear Solid 2, which incidentally was also great. I loved how smug Six and Baltar sounded in the final scene.
|
I found it as a satisfying ending, I liked how they covered most of the bases at the end, I hate it when shows end right when the story action is over and that's it. Its nice to see some post chase scenes.
|
Seeing what happens to the characters is great, but spending an extra hour (or whatever it was without commercials) when most of the outcome was clear from the getgo was a bit much. That's not to say I didn't like it, I just thought it was drawn out too long.
I can live with the flaws (the way Cavel's group was wiped out/committed suicide, Starbuck not knowing she was an angel, ditching all of the technology) because I really liked the overall concept of "history repeats itself". And I might possess the genetic power to grow my very own Adama-stache. |
i just didn't get all the flashbacks.
so: lee used to be a complete douche kara has always been a hoe roslin banged a former student adama puked everywhere and then went on a job interview long enough to get pissed at a lie detector test the ONLY good thing about those flashbacks was Saul Tigh at the titty club. Saul Tigh screams at titties! everything else was awesome. |
They all chose to break the vicious cycle of alcoholism. Is the whole series a cat's paw for Alcoholics Anonymous?
|
Great ending, too bad I hate any and all ends.
Oh and I only started watching BSG two weeks ago, 5 years of work in 2 weeks, woo. :3: So it ended early for me. :( |
lucky you, didn't have to wait a year in between each season.
|
Oh yeah, it's great not having to go through that.
Although, I could've watched less than 5 episodes every day. Couldn't help myself though, it was too good. |
Haha, seriously, this finale was a fucking joke. There was a lot of shooting, a lot of scenes in the strip club and a lot of other nonsense. The last time I watched a disastrous ending like this one was when I almost fall asleep in the theater during the last twenty minutes of Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
|
Yeah, it had the "oh hey it's over oh wait no it isn't" thing going on quite a bit.
It could have been better, but it wasn't awful. One of the only TV finales I've seen that I can actually say was satisfying. |
