[Multi-platform] Guitar Hero II
So I'll flirt with doom and suggest we start a seperate thread on GH2. Its release is one month away and I just played the demo for it (in PSM's November issue). Thank god they've put new modes and more songs in the game, otherwise it would deserve a lower score than the original because there's not much to differentiate it based on gameplay and graphics.
Now that Harmonix has announced an Xbox 360 version that may feature downloadable content...I hope not, otherwise I'll have to buy a 360. MTV revealed the pastie on GH2's boob recently on "The G-Hole" (whatever the hell that is) and showed a listing of the first 6 tiers of the game's song list (which included some songs they weren't supposed to reveal, which led to them later censoring them): 1. Opening Licks * "Strutter" - KISS * "Mother" (possibly by Danzig) * "Message in a Bottle" - The Police * "Monkey Wrench" - Foo Fighters * "Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight" - Spinal Tap 2. Amp-Warmers * "Shout at the Devil" - Mötley Crüe * "Heart-Shaped Box" - Nirvana * "Woman" (possibly by Wolfmother) * "Carry On Wayward Son" - Kansas * "You Really Got Me" - The Kinks, as performed by Van Halen 3. String Snappers * "Surrender" - Cheap Trick * "Them Bones" - Alice in Chains * "Search and Destroy" (possibly by The Stooges or Red Hot Chili Peppers) * "Tattooed Love Boys" - The Pretenders * "War Pigs" - Black Sabbath 4. Thrash and Burn * "Cherry Pie" (possibly by Warrant) * "Who Was in My Room Last Night?" - The Butthole Surfers * "Girlfriend" (possibly by Matthew Sweet or The Darkness) * "Can't You Hear Me Knocking?" - The Rolling Stones * "Sweet Child O' Mine" - Guns N' Roses 5. Return of the Shred * "Killing in the Name" - Rage Against the Machine * "John The Fisherman" - Primus (performed by Primus) * "Freya" (possibly by The Sword) * "Bad Reputation" (possibly by Thin Lizzy or Joan Jett) * "Jessica" - The Allman Brothers Band 6. Relentless Riffs * "Crazy on You" - Heart * "Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart" - Stone Temple Pilots * "Rock This Town" (possibly by the Stray Cats) * "Last Child" - Aerosmith * "Stop" (possibly by Jane's Addiction) And then there's another tier: 7. Furious Fretwork * "Madhouse" - Anthrax Some bonus tracks: Bonus Tracks * "Raw Dog" - The Last Vegas * "Arterial Black" - Drist And the other licensed and announced songs that went unsorted (I'd bet Free Bird, Misirlou and YYZ are in at least tier 7). Other Confirmed Songs * "Beast and the Harlot" - Avenged Sevenfold * "Free Bird" - Lynyrd Skynyrd * "Hangar 18" - Megadeth * "Laid To Rest" - Lamb of God * "Misirlou" - Dick Dale * "Psychobilly Freakout" - The Reverend Horton Heat * "YYZ" - Rush That's 40 songs of 55 total. Word was that there would only be 40 licensed songs, but that's yet to be seen. No Metallica. :( |
I'll probably end up buying this for the 360. I always wanted to try out the original game, and with possible downloadable content, this is a no-brainer.
|
I remember seeing Sandman on another track list for GH2, so there should be at least 1 metallica song.
|
My friend wanted to get this for the 360... Songlist looks interesting. And I took a first listen to Beast and the Harlot... Can't wait for that.
|
It's about time they got Freebird. I was pretty shocked not to see it on the original, to be honest.
|
After playing the demo, consisting of the songs "You Really Got Me", "YYZ", "Shout At the Devil" and "Strutter", I find that I cant wait for the game. It's more difficult than last time around, with the addition of 3-fret chords. Other than that (and the co-op which isnt in the demo) there isnt anything too new about the game mechanics -- which is a good thing.
I'll probably buy it for PS2 and X360, just because it comes out so much later on the 360. Plus the 360's guitar is sexy. |
I'm probably going to follow the same path as Lipid. Unless they come out with a PS3 version too, then I'll get that instead of the 360 one.
|
Holy shit! "Hangar 18's" gonna make "Cowboys From Hell" look like child's play! My fingers are sore just from seeing that it's in there!
|
Can anybody post the tabs for Hangar 18?
I would really appreciate it, Thanks, Johnny |
garcia you think you can play it =P ?
http://rapidshare.de/files/36300144/Hangar18.rar.html Here ! Now record yourself and show me |
I don't understand what you sent me...5 files...I can't open any..they seem like execute files. Do I need a special program to open them (I'm working on a mac).
By the way...why the hostility man...I just asked for the tabs...I'm not saying I can play like friedman. Thanks, Johnny |
lol Hostility .. Where in my last post did you pick up hostility?
=P <---- Smiley with tongue out, indication of playful behaviour (Or just plain gay) Yes those tabs are for a program called guitar pro, will help you immensly with your playing, i been playing for 3 years and i already can do some pretty dandy stuff (And still find Hangar 18's later-half pretty hard, or annoying ot say the least :( ) Anyway it's a hard song, best of luck with it, and it wouldn't hurt to thank people for offering what you asked for.. |
man, what the hell is wrong with you...
I did say thank you! Whatever...get lost |

|
I'm BEGGING for a Dragonforce song to unlock (Fury of the Storm, preferably). Can you even imagine how insane that would be?

All I have to say is that we got the Trogdor song and Deathklok: Thunderhorse in the bonus song list.
Oh. Hell. Yes. Taken from Myspace: DETHKLOK ON GUITAR HERO II? Yes its true. You will be able to play Guitar HERO II (available in NOVEMBER) with DETHKLOK. It will be in the 'unlocks' section along with some other secret music from other bands. Which DETHKLOK song? THUNDERHORSE. Metal. Also http://burninatingtheguitarhero.ytmnd.com/ |
Wow, it's pretty awesome that there is a Living End song on the tracklist. Also they could have picked a better Wolfmother track, but I guess Wolfmother don't have the most difficult or varied guitar work. This tracklist is better than the first, but you know, still not enough to warrant a purchase when the gameplay is still the same.
|
Buckethead > Trogdor and Dethklok combined. Really.
|
Bonus Songs
The Acro-brats--"Laughtrack" All That Remains--"Six" The Amazing Royal Crowns--"Mr. Fix-It" Anarchy Club--"Collide" Bang Camaro--"Push Push (Lady Lightning)" Breaking Wheel (formerly known as Artillery)--"One for the Road" Brian Kahanek--"Gemini" Buckethead--"Jordan" Count Zero--"Radium Eyes" Dethklok--"Thunder Horse" Drist--"Arterial Black" Every Time I Die--"The New Black" Freezepop--"Less Talk More Rokk" Honest Bob and the Factory-to-Dealer Incentives--"Soy Bomb" The Last Vegas--"Raw Dog" Made in Mexico--"Yes We Can" Megasus--"Red Lottery" The Neighborhoods--"Parasite" Shadows Fall--"The Light That Blinds" Strong Bad (of Homestar Runner)--"Trogdor" That Handsome Devil--"Elephant Bones" Vagiant--"FTK" Valient Thorr--"Fall of Pangea" Voivod--"X-Stream" I cannot wait for this game. |
So, I've listened to Hangar 18 about 20 times over the past two days, and I'm pretty obsessed with getting to do battle with this little bitch on expert...
I'm getting pretty god-damned psyched for GH2 now! WOOT! Gotta sharpen my skills on Cowboys and Bark (my sightreading is pretty good...managed to beat YYZ on expert in one shot) Can't wait for those other tracks I have heard. I'm relatively illiterate in classic rock and metal. Ah well, Red Octane will be my teacher :) Oh yeah, Wvlfpup should be happy about all these songs that are in non-standard time signatures...10/8...7/8's in there. Have fun :) |
I got to play some guitar hero 2. It was an instore event thingy they did in a mall I visited. so I played YYZ, failedin about 15 seconds, crazy ass time pattern and then I also played Madhouse which was fun and interesting on hard. Got to play a 3 key chord which was interesting too.
|
The wal-mart that I work at is holding a tourny 3 days after the release of Guitar Hero 2, first place is going to win a copy of their own and the second and third place will get gift cards.
I just started to get into this game when I went on a few of my breaks as of late (we have a station set up for the first game) and it should be interesting to see if a lot of excellent guitar hero players sign up for this tournament. If there are new buttons/features built into the game, it should be cool to watch. Kansas = <3 btw...gotta love that song >.> |
I cannot BELIEVE they're putting the Trogdor song in this game. Wow, that just kicks so much ass.
I was really hoping for some Dragonforce, but oh well! |
Just played GHII at bestbuy, REALLY SWEET!
The only thing that really bugs me is that bestbuy uses those stupid Wide Screen LCDs so the timing is off.... ANNOYING!! But other than that, i did Anthrax - Madhouse on Expert! NICE! |
I played it at best buy today as well. And if the demo is any indication, the lists in this thread aren't very accurate.
|
Is the guitar hero II controller better??
The one i played at bestbuy felt better (less clicky) than my controller at home... Can anyone confirm this? |
Playing Freebird is like going throgh 10 orgasms at the same time. It's that good!
|
When I played the Demo of Guitar Hero 2 from my PS2 harddisk, some songs had stuttering and lagging issues in the harder parts with many chords on the screen. Did anyone play the full version on HDLoader already?
|
It's posted in my chocojournal, but I believe the review I did deserves to be put here as well.

OMGosh.....
I'm playing through expert right now and let me tell you... Not only did everything get much harder! It rocks more than part 1 by a 1,000 times!! |
My favorite addition to this series is Progressive Scanning.
Now I won't have to play on a small tube TV, I can finally play on my DLP HD set without the lagging associated with de-interlacing. At least, I hope I won't have to, I'm still burning the game now. |
I love the Hi Speed code option this time around.
Sometimes in part 1 i needed some spacing to see the charts better. I'm very happy that they decided to add it in. I'm not sure why some people (on other forums) are unhappy with the hi-speed code. They say it takes away from the game because people will use it as a way of looking cool. I'm not after coolness, i'm after spacing for rhythms ^_^ |
Aye, the progressive scan is a GREAT feature. Super great, in fact.
Also, as a quick update, I finally beat the last three songs in the final set - but I'm stuck on Freebird. It's ... well let me just say that I have no idea how anyone could possibly beat that song on expert, let alone get five stars on it! Double Post: Quote:
|
Ive had no problems with the full version and stuttering (after I burned it to a dvd that wasnt missing part of a layer :O)
I was never particularly good at GH1, but i could easily beat every song on expert (5 stars is another story, never tried, never will) but I've been having a damn hard time in the Oakland tier of songs. Madhouse is simple (for some reason) , but Laid to Rest made my hard scream bloody murder :( Loving the game still, but wondering if I'll be able to finish it on expert :O |
I dunno about you guys, but I'm enjoying some of the bonus songs better than the main ones.
Then again, I'm not that into "classic rock." |
Update:
HOW THE F*** DO YOU BEAT MISIRLOU ON EXPERT OMFG. im crying on the inside :( |
I can't stop playing Jessica~ It's like Hammer On / Pull Off City!
And is it just me or does the Rage cover vocalist doesn't sound ... well, right for the song ^_^'' Maybe they had a hard time finding a guy with that kind of high voice. |
Quote:
If you can manage to snag your star power at the beginning though (which is tough) you can always star-power your way through that section, and you should be fine the rest of the song. I had to do that the first time I beat it. Second time I managed SOMEHOW to stumble through that difficult section, and the rest of the song is cake, comparatively. Double Post: Quote:
|
well it doesnt matter if i beat Misirlou or not.. I wont be beating Institutionalized or Beast And The Harlot anytime soon ><
GH2 gods frown upon me :P |
God damn I want to play this game ASAP. The guys at the dorms are waiting for their copy to arrive in the mail so we can all play the damn game already. Sounds like it's going to be a GH2 party this weekend.
|
Beast and the Harlot was fairly easy for me, but Institutionalized gave me some grief. The tempo changes suck, and the wicked-fast chord changes just kinda make me sit back and go "WTF man..." but I finally just decided I'd hit two out of every three chords during the difficult parts, or something like that. Seemed to work well enough.
Yuni, come have a GH2 party at my house. There will be |
Does GH2 have widescreen support on the PS2?
Honestly, the only things keeping me from buying it for the PS2 right now instead of waiting for the Xbox 360 version are lingering questions about widescreen support and the possibility of Marketplace downloads of songs. |

Progressive Scanning and Widescreen. |

Yeah, except then I have to buy TWO guitars, instead of just one. Not to mention 360 games are more expensive to begin with.
I'm seriously thinking about picking this up when I get GoW tomorrow, but my money is getting thin, with the DDD sale coming up and the launch of the Wii, which I'm also considering. Dammit, things cost too much. |
Yeah, good point(s) ... hm. Well, chances are you could have enough money when it comes out for the 360, since you gotta wait for it anyway.
|
This game is KILLING ME it's so good. My wrist feels like absolute hell after blowing through 35 songs in a row on hard.
|
Yeah. Trust me. I know the feeling. That and the feeling of the tiny blood blister on the tip of my pinky. And the best part is... I still haven't given it a rest. I keep going back to this wondrous game.
|
Is it just me or does sometimes feel like hammering through a whole
section just feels... well, too easy sometimes (on expert). Like, they should have made you strum a note every few bars. I can't say which song exactly~ i forgot the title ^_^'' |
Anthrax - Madhouse is by far and wide my favorite song of the main bunch so far, with All That Remains - Six being my favorite independent song.
I had to cease playing last night because of my 8am class, but I plan to resume shortly. I only have 8 more songs left in career mode! All the songs I've been itching to play are the face-melters, so I'm super pumped! |
Thunderhorse is SO FUCKING FUN. I just beat it this morning on hard.
There's a few songs on here that I hate, but are pretty fun anyway, like Mother and Killing in the Name. Haven't gotten to Freebird yet, but I'm sure that's gonna be interesting. |
Hmmm... I beat Hangar 18 and Misirlou on my first try~
From all the hype i've heard, i thought they'd be impossible IMPOSSIBLE! They aren't bad at all. I think Hangar 18 is way easier than Misirlou though. I've heard many complaining how fast Misirlou is. I don't think i'm the only one that does this, but: -Try playing with a thin guitar pick (i'm using Dunlop .46mm picks)- It will feel MUCH better and holding the strum bar and 'shaking' it up and down for fast parts (ala Guitar Freaks). Well, it feels better to me since i play guitar. Keep rockin' guys! |

While talking to my parents on the phone the other day my mom asked if I had bought the game for myself yet. I told her I hadn't and she said I damned well better not. Guess what I'm getting for Christmas. :p |
Quote:
|
Poor fred button, always being picked on. FRED, WE ARE SORRY.
|
LOL, i mean playing with a pick as you do with a real guitar~
Strumming the 'strum bar' with a pick. It helps me, maybe it'll help you ^_^ |

so yeah I got the game on Tuesday evening. Played it from 6:30PM~1:30AM. I think I'm good at Guitar Hero. I've 5-starred every song in the first one except Cowboys from Hell.
This game is a freaking blast on expert. My hands have been sore since the first night. In one sitting I passed every song except Jordan. I passed them all on the first try except for the following: 1) Beast and the Harlot (the strumming threw me off, I failed twice before I figured it out and 5-starred it the first time I actually passed O_o) 2) Freebird (I failed about 3 times on the first set of "Really" fast notes because I couldn't hold my star power.. it seems more sensitive this time around, I have to lean back to avoid it going off accidentally) 3) Less Talk More Rokk (I failed the first time because I was becoming too reliant on Hammer-ons. I almost made it to the end but I started missing the first note and not really trying to re-enter the stream) 4) Jordan. OBVIOUSLY >.> I managed to pass every other song on the first shot. mostly 5 and 4 stars with a few surprising 3 stars. After 3 days, I've 5-starred 49/64 songs and 4-starred everything else except Misirlou and Six. I love the new Hammer on system, these songs wouldn't be possible otherwise lol. You might be thinking of Lamb of God - Laid to Rest. You can pretty much HO the entire second half of the song >.> I like the variety in the song selection. I also like how early expert songs don't hold back like they did in the first game. |
All this on expert? I bow to your Guitar Hero greatness.
Also, yeah, Jordan. I thought Freebird was the hardest song in the game. NOTHANKYOU, apparently not. I hate you, Buckethead. I like your music, but I hate trying to play it. Why you gotta be so good, mang? |
DARN IT!!! I keep losing at the same spot in Free Bird!
75% through the track ^_^'' Like AlphaDeus said, getting into hammering too much and you can't re-enter the stream of notes when you mess up -_-'''' May i also add that i'm totally LOVING this game~ Despite loving Bemani to death, i really must say that GH2 is much more enjoyable than Guitar Freaks. There's so much technique while playing. GH1 didn't really change my mind, but GH2 certainly has made me turn from a Guitar Freak to a Guitar Hero. |
Yeah, 75% is right where I die, too. It seems physically impossible to switch notes THAT fast... blueyellowredgreenblueyell- AAAAGH.
|
Sigh. I was originally planning to wait until I had my 360 before getting GHII (for downloadable content, etc), but I want it SO BAD that I just might end up getting a PS2 version. :(
|
Free Bird isn't that hard.
In Medium difficulty. Ahem. Yeah, I cleared career mode in Medium, which is about as far as I'm expecting to go right now. |
I got my father into the game~ LOL!
He beat the first set of songs on Easy ^_^ Which isn't bad at all! |
I'm almost at the end now on hard, with 3 songs left to clear on tier 7. Soon, the world should be mine...if my fingers can survive expert...
|
I'm a total noob to GH, but after playing it extensively at Best Buy on the demo kiosk, I decided to pick it up :D
Gradually getting a handle on getting my pinky involved in the 4-key spread of Medium/Normal/Whatever, a lot quicker than I had anticipated. Dexterity and coordination-wise though, I was completely surprised by how fast that caught on. This is coming from the guy that failed to learn how to play a real guitar several times over. |
I just tried this game today and I love it. I'm sooooooo bad, but it's fun. Jamming along with Nirvana is great.
|
I'm halfway done my expert career. I'd be done sooner, but I managed to hook 6 friends on the game, 2 of which were naysayers before. It's been utterly fantastic playing this game with a group of people.
Other than that, the game is noticeably harder than the first. Expert is kicking my ASS. I have yet to lose on a song, but the songs are already getting very difficult on the 3rd set of 5. |
If you want a good workout, try playing Six - All that Remains on expert >.>
I still can't beat Jordan, but I've at least 4-starred every other song (63/64) and 5-starred a great deal of them (55/64 I think). My scores improve almost every time I play them. Right now I'm trying to unlock the other guitars so I'm beating the other difficulties. So far, hard has been a walk in the park. I haven't tried medium or easy. I think so far my best song is Beast and the Harlot, I've gotten like 365k on it which is more than enough to 5-star it. I think maybe 95% accuracy. I wish I had someone else to play it with though, I'd like to try out the other instruments in a non-practice mode. |
So um, how are you supposed to hold the guitar? Should I be using the three middle fingers on the frets or what? I haven't gotten comfortable with moving my hand around it yet. At this point I'm still having trouble with songs on Medium - ...
|
for the most part, I keep my index finger on the green fret, middle finger on the Red, Ring finger on the Yellow, and Pinky on the Blue. If you plan on eventually moving to hard or expert, I seriously suggest using your pinky on the higher frets if at all possible. On Medium, you can play and pass just fine with the first three fingers and not using the pinky at all. It can teach you how to slide your hand down the neck to hit the higher frets.
But yeah, try to use all of your fingers. There's a part in monkey wrench on expert that you have to press the green (1st) and orange (5th) frets at the same time. It's much easier when you use your pinky. Hope this helped at all. it's best to find your own way to play though. |
Quote:
When orange starts coming in, I've always found it useful to keep in mind that it's easier to reach UP to green than DOWN to orange. Helps when you have to hit those green-and-orange chords, too. That doesn't mean you should position your hand so that you're off the green - keep your usual position, but shift up when there's gonna be a lot of orange. Eventually it'll start to feel natural. |
I usually keep my index finger on red, middle on yellow and so on. Simply because it is that much easier to reach green than orange.
|
So yeah, Freebirrd expert?
Nightmare. I'm using practice mode to nail each individual solo before tackling the whole thing. If I didn't have practice mode I'd probably just give up :) |
When I go into Hard I use the RYBO hand position and reach or shift for the green.
|
Quote:
|
A half hour? Is that all? I've spent like an hour total on the god damn guitar solo I
Others have come since. I may be able to take a chance soon |
Is that the one with the extremely rapid note changes? Being uneducated, I don't know what they are and just call them "scales" since they scale down from blue to green INCREDIBLY quickly, and repeatedly, and I can't seem to nail it, and even with star power on I miss enough that I lose anyway.
|
No, it's the one before that, with the BYRYB pattern
I can't seem to find the rhythm...Though for the next part with the 4-pattern B-Y-R-G I can usually do decently. Never made it that far it the main tune though :) |
Every day that I play I manage to get a little better and better. My scores are getting higher and higher, it's amazingly satisfying.
Out of nowhere I was about to 5-star Gemini, Rock this Town and Carry me home. Which brings me up to 5-star 57/64. I dunno if I'll be able to five star the rest, but I will sure as hell keep trying. I'm thinking about recording my progress via video camera and maybe posting it on youtube or some shit, but I wouldn't know where to begin. If anyone has experience doing this, lemme know. I'm not insanely good or anything, but I'm sure other people don't mind watching people progress :p |
You're five-starring most of the songs on expert, I would say that makes you insanely good.
Also, deadally, that one's tough but I find if I can just manage to get in the right rhythm with the strums, usually I can nail it - it's a familiar passage, having similar ones in both Cowboys from Hell and Bark at the Moon on the first game. |
I managed to borrow the game for a day from my friend and beat everything on expert except for Free Bird. I failed somewhere in the 70s. The part where it goes BYRG over and over is where I kept messing up, as well as the part right before it. I'd probably try harder to beat it, but it was like 3 am then, and I really didn't feel like staying up any longer for it.
My friend who I borrowed it from is pretty insane though. He played through career on expert, never once failing (first try on almost every song, he had played some prior), and five starred the majority of them. Though I had him play the Bucket Head song today, and he wasn't even able to clear it. I couldn't believe the solo in that, it's fucking absurd. He had full star power in it and it ran out. Makes the Free Bird solo look like I Wanna Be Sedated. Oh, and as far as where to hold your fingers, I find that once you play on expert, trying to stay in one spot is pretty much impossible, especially when faced with rapid sections with chords. |
I have failed a song for the first time :(
Freya on Expert is a real pain in my ass. Mostly because it's difficult to get star power, and then also because the 3 bridges are insanely tough to do. Damn you, The Sword! |
Yeah, Freya was the first real pain in MY ass too. I finally just resorted to hitting two-thirds, sometimes three-fourths, of the chords in those ridiculous bridge sections.
|
Easier to do hammer ons/pull offs.
Better money system where each band can pool together or when you go from medium to hard and etc. You can buy things and as well it counts for the entire game no matter what band. And better Multiplayer... Other then that I can't think of anythign esle to say. EDIT: When you hit reset, it resets right away, no wait time. |
Well, I beat it on Expert last night. AWESOME.
Playing Free Bird is such an exhilarating final level. It was far more fun on hard because I didn't come close to failing it, but regardless, wow, what a great way to end such a fun ass game. Time to shoot for 5-stars. See you later, sun :( |
Okay. So give us some pointers on how you beat Free Bird on expert, especially those difficult rapid solos... cause I still haven't :(
|
Finally got to play the game over the weekend. I'm still a major n00b at Guitar Hero so I play in Medium *is shot* and I have to say it's a pretty damn good game. I would have played more, but I kept getting kicked off by the game's owner. That asshat.
|
Don't you have a Best Buy or Wal-Mart around somewhere? There, you can play for as long as you want usually, unless the managers are really anal. Just make sure you give the little mexican kids a turn (I swear they're the only ones that play the in-store displays, or were, when I was working at Best Buy.)
|
Not in the city where I go to college I don't have those. Oh well, it's not that big of a deal. I'll get around to playing it more eventually.
|
I uploaded some vids of me playing. the Quality isn't great but I'm not gonna go buy a new camera for crappy youtube vids :p
Psychobilly Freakout (EXPERT) 215k: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrbW9Mcr_98 Rock This Town (EXPERT) 257k: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJT8mxAG7tc Oddly enough, these are my best scores on those two particular songs. Funny how they were the first two I caught on camera and they ended up being the best scores :P |
May I ask why don't you wammy on non-stars?
Double Post: Hey did anyone actually know about the Grim Ripper glitch? I bought him today cause my brother wanted me to even though I don't really like him, I didn't like himin GH. But if you play a song with him in the campaign. Load the song fully or play it once then change characters that have changeable costumes. It seems that you can play the scythe! I found this by accident and confirmed it due to gamefaqs.com |
I gotta admit, AlphaDeus, that's pretty impressive. People think I'm good, but that's just... that's hot right there. Definitely wouldn't wanna go up against you in versus mode :)
Zio, whammying on non-stars is usually pretty useless for your score, even if you have a 4x multiplier going. It's fun to do, but when I'm really focusing, I try not to whammy when I don't need to, because sometimes, oddly, it screws up my rhythm, throws off my groove, etc. Also yeah, I found out the grim ripper glitch right after I bought him, and then when I was randomly pounding on buttons at the Best Buy display the day it officially was released, I accidentally activated the air guitar cheat, then walked away guiltily. :( |
Got 2 more:
Crazy on You EXPERT (332K): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLDdLxyu28Y Freya EXPERT (287K): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_Tx8oRF9rQ Yeah, using the Whammy on the non-star power notes doesn't do anything good. I don't like using the whammy at all honestly because it distorts parts of the song. (I mainly play to listen to the song as opposed to actually trying to Full Combo anything). As far as glitches go, the only one I've come across is when Grim Ripper starts with a normal guitar. Lemme know if there are any songs you wanna see me "Attempt" :P |
Are you kidding me? Those two are easily two of the hardest in my book. Freya gave me such a hard time I wanted to break my guitar controller, and Crazy on You, I dunno maybe just cause I hadn't ever heard it before (don't hurt me!) the song's rhythms seemed odd.
You're a guitar GOD. If at all possible, show me Misirlou and Freebird. I want to see how to beat Freebird, so there's any way to record your hands and the TV at the same time (probably not) that would be... helpful. That's the only song I haven't beaten on expert, other than Jordan. Hey, on second thought, yeah, Jordan, I wanna see that. |
I've only played Freebird like.. 4 times total, I've only passed it once in those 4 tries. It's a very intimidating song, and I've been working on other songs before I decide to tackle that one. I also haven't been working on Jordan, so I can only make it through the first solo. Misirlou, on the other hand, I can 4-star pretty much everytime.
I will try to record videos of misirlou and freebird, but I dunno how good they're gonna be. |

What program are you using to record cause all my webcam came with was the ability take pics and work with MSN/Yahoo but didn't come with a video capture thingy. I've found a few programs and they reconize my camera but they produce poor and huge files. Double Post: I can get to like 95% of the song to freebird before I become the deadbird. |
I have a Kodak Easyshare 7440. It's a digital camera but it has a movie mode with sound. It shoots at 640 or 320 resolution. I just hit record and hope I don't screw up too much :P There are no programs involved, I just upload the .MOV file off the SD Card.

Has anyone tested the Guitar Hero guitar in any Guitar Freaks game? I'm thinking of buying it, but only if i can also play Guitar Freaks with it. I'm worried about the buttons config, since guitar freaks has only 3 buttons. So maybe the buttons setups are mixed up.
Edit: Gamespot: Also worth noting, the guitar isn't compatible with Konami's Guitar Freaks games, so if you're looking to replace your increasingly rare and somewhat flimsy Konami guitars, you're out of luck. Damn... |
Along the same vein, I would like to warn anyone and everyone away from purchasing any controllers not made by the creators of Guitar Hero themselves, or Sony or Microsoft. I was given a wireless flying-V guitar controller for my birthday a couple months ago, and it just simply ceased working correctly at all. We opened it up and found real craptastic manufacturing - everything was scotch-taped and hot-glued together. Grade-A work right there.
|
Yeah there was one that looked really good at Bestbuy but I was like, it's not even made by Octane so it must eat batteries, have lag time and suck really bad.
|
Actually, when the controller functioned, it was an absolute wonder to play. Everything seemed more finely tuned than the original wired controller - the strum bar was more responsive but less "floppy" so you didn't accidentally get an unwanted upstroke by strumming downward too hard, the fret buttons were sensitive and comfortable, the whammy bar was easier and more comfortable to use, and the tilt-sensor didn't require as much jerking of the guitar to activate star power (though I just hit the select button most times anyway.) There was absolutely no lag time, even from its farthest range (which, by the way, was an impressive 100 feet) and supposedly the batteries should last you a good 1000 minutes of gameplay... so it was great while it lasted, but unfortunately, it lasted a very very short time.

Misirlou + Aching Hands + Expert = Holy crap
I don't think I'll ever, ever, ever, be trying that again. 10 guesses as to where I failed :) *cough*~35%*cough* And, oddly enough, that Freezepop song is fun as heck to play. Failed on Expert at 97% (cry), but, damn that was fun...... |

This is pretty random, but I was just wondering if anyone had advice for me concerning two things.
I'm able to play all the songs on HARD, and about 3/4 to 4/5 on EXPERT. I only strum down though, whenever I try to strum up and down, I always get confused. Does anyone have any advice as how to approach this better? Also, I don't exactly do hammer-ons or pull-offs, I always end up strumming each note... I guess this needs to be improved with just simple practice or something. |
Anyone who can beat Jordan on expert has to be a god, or some kind of an omnipotent guitar-playing being.
Greykin, strumming up and down is something that I found a little difficult to get used to and didn't actually start doing until Cowboys from Hell on expert, on the first game. The way I got used to it was by practicing moderately fast (not super fast) successions of the same notes and/or chords, and I slowly got used to it. I can't think of any real good songs for practicing this on in GH2 off the top of my head at the moment, but if you pick something with a good steady rhythm you should be fine. Hammer-ons and pull-offs I avoided like the plague during the first game, but now that it's easier, you don't really have to worry about if you're strumming each note, because it won't count against you, unless you strum late, in which case you would have messed up anyway. It'll take a hammer-on and a strum in rapid succession as just one hit, unless there's another note immediately after. The game's very forgiving that way. |
Oh and a good song to try to hammer on/pull offs is War Pigs, and hmm freebird. If you want to do it on hard. It has a lot of hammer ons and pull offs that you can try and keep yourself going.
Double Post: Ayos, you mean like this? It's not that hard, I only strum down unless it's a part I really need to strum up and down for. I only used star power on the part that had all those hammer ons, I think it was one of the solos. I hit 85% of the notes and got 986/1147 and avg multiplier of 1.7X. And the score was 100901...... EDIT: And my server is being really gay so here. www.thegatheringzone.com/Jordan.JPG Oh shit, I just realize that it was in my career mode and it wasn't on expert. <_<; |
Yeah, I was gonna say... Jordan on any difficulty other than expert is practically a cakewalk, but expert is impossible. I don't say things like that lightly, because there has never yet been a video game I've played that I could not beat completely. Even taking the speed down a notch in practice mode, I could still only hit between 50-60% of the notes through all the solos.

giving this thread a much needed boost with some new vids :D
these are direct capture using my new camera. Hangar 18: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSjHe_A0OwM Carry Me Home: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7LFavkbBLY Beast and the Harlot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfO-fKJvW5s Free Bird: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eI_jhNrezxk Currently I've 5-starred 61/64. I can't seem to 5-star Misirlou, Jordan and Six. I passed Jordan ONCE with a 4-star. |
lol, the sound quality from your camera makes the music sound better than on my TV's...
Well done, by the way! |
I fail Six in 10 seconds >_>
Jordan I fail around the 55% mark =P |
wow those video are pretty cool ^^
and I think I'll try this game now XD just 2 questions: I never lay or seen someone play this game, do you really need to be good to really enjoy that game? how's the difficulty level in the game, is it like ddr where each song has different level or does the song only have one difficulty? oh and another one, is it possible to play this on ps3? XD (this mean is the guitar like a new controler or is it plug in a usb port?) |

So I got this game for Christmas, and while it's been a whole lot of fun I'm not sure if I like the song selection better than GH1. In the first there were a number of songs that I wasn't really familiar with, but I wound up liking the songs even though they weren't the usual type I enjoy. In this one, there's been a considerable number of songs I really don't like at all and don't look forward to having to fight my way through on Expert difficulty. Especially the second to last set. I hadn't even heard of any of the bands they included and playing through them once was torture enough, it's actually making me not want to get through the game on Expert. =\
(Soy Bomb is absolutely fantastic, though. Honest Bob and the Factory to Dealer Incentives have the best Bonus song in each game. <3) |
That's cause they went for more of an alternaitive(sp?) rock/metal.
Though like 80% of the bands on GHII I didn't know of. I think GH had a better song selection just merely cause I knew all of the songs + they were my favorite. I think they should make GH III - Return of the Fret or something and mix both GH and GH II song lists including the bonus songs cause I'd buy it. |
I'd like to see them start releasing those genre-specific games so I'd have a better chance of only having to deal with songs I like (I'd also be really interested in the Bonus songs they include since I'd like to find some new bands that do music in a style I like.).
|
I would too, but you know it problay won't happen.

I'm going to laugh when RedOctane(Even though they were bought up by Activision.), says no you can't DL songs. xD |
I'm just gonna ignore the 360 release of GH2 and wait for Accordion Hero, coming in 2008! (If the GH2 demo loading screen can be trusted... which it can't.)
|
Haven't seen that loading screen yet, but I remember someone actually did a pretty nice photoshop a while back to promote Accordion Hero after GH became a hug hit. My guess is they're just referring to that.
|
I bought GH 2 in December and can honestly say I find myself drifting over to play it quite often.
It's quite addicting. I'm currently working on playing the songs on Hard (though I can play some on Expert, but I only barely pass them). |
I only have left the last two sets, Rock This Town, and the Encore from that set, though I doubt I'll ever finish the game since I really don't like any of the songs from the second to last set and can't see myself spending any time trying to practice them. =/
Anyone know of a good place to pick up a second controller? CompUSA had them (wired SG) a week or so in stock for $30 plus shipping, but I decided to sleep on it and by morning the price had gone up to $35 and they were sold out. :( |
Maybe you could buy the original guitar/game pack. It's 70$, but you get the first game, too, which is good fun

What hack?

Still waiting on the PS3 guitar adaptor. I almost bought this game but I got a PS3 right before so I figured it was useless to have to whip out the ol' PS2 just to play this.
I still really want to play though. It's a great game. edit//I was looking through RedOctane's GH forums and it looks like they made a USB adaptor for the controllers. And supposedly it works with PS3. Can anyone confirm? (I know, no one owns PS3.) |
F*cked up Fingers
My fingers would f*ck up if I tried this game!

That's only if you play co-op mode. Faceoff/Pro-Faceoff doesn't let you choose. |
You can choose in face off, pro face off you have to use the same difficulty

Let's just hope they don't pull a Konami and give the Nintendo versions crummy songs/themes like that DDR: Disney thing. |
Mmm I aint too worried about the songs, I am more worried about the playabilities/wanting to play it over and over again.
|
Disney DDR was on Playstation...

I would like to know how a DS version would work, I invision using the stylus to strum the chords , but that would only leave the D-Pad and/or the L button feesable, but I do expect some exclusives for each system, no doubt. |
