Zone of the Enders 3 (Let the pants wetting begin.)

Okey doke then, so we got CONFIRMATION.

http://colonelskills.belkanairforce..../ZOE3small.jpg

Ok, so that's not exactly a whole shit ton of info at this point. But let's chat and discuss and various things until more info hits. Let's also make this the official thread for this game.

So, ZoE on the PS3. What does this mean? Massive multi mech online combat? More Orbital Frame vs ENTIRE FLEET battles? Only this time it's Jehuty against something like 300 ships?

Imagine the possibilities and discuss!

------------------------------------------------------------------

Edit (10/27/06): This is probably a whack of a shit. PSM has said that "it's super duper secret adn we can't tell you", and no other sources are confirming this. Basically, it looks like they made the story up and were banking on the fact that it would be announced at TGS or some other event. So far, nothin'.

Looks like we were all fooled. Fuck you PSM.

Scarletdeath Sep 30, 2006 12:21 AM

I seriously hope we get to start as Naked Jehuty in ZOE3, though that would be overkill. With Anubis gone, what else could happen? I'd love it if they included the war section before the crater to Anubis from ZOE2. SO AWESOME.

I have plenty of questions actually; like who can the runner be this time? I don't know if Dingo would pilot it again, since he's happily ever after with Ken now. I sure hope they don't use Leo again. I can't stand his childish voice and whining.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Sep 30, 2006 12:26 AM

Actually, I'd kill for a reappearance of the Vic Viper. Leo might have been a bit of a tool, but FUCK if the Vic wasn't one of the most enjoyable mechs to pilot in the last game.

BIGWORM Sep 30, 2006 12:31 AM

Please refer to Colonel Skills' av/sig for my reaction.

Cirno Sep 30, 2006 12:31 AM

Posting in a superior thread.

I already mentioned this in chat, but I'd like to play as something OTHER than Jehuty. He's already at the peak of his power anyway.

BIGWORM Sep 30, 2006 12:32 AM

wait you thought Vic Viper was the best Frame last game?

Cirno Sep 30, 2006 12:36 AM

It wasn't the best but it was, without a doubt, the goddamn sexiest.

JasonTerminator Sep 30, 2006 12:42 AM

This is a system seller for me on the PS3, hot damn. I thought for sure ZOE2 sold so poorly that this would never happen.

I hope it's not as insanely hard though. I spent HOURS trying to kill Anubis in ZOE2.

Not exactly, but it was one of the most fun to pilot, with the whole transforming mechanic and all that jazz. If they expanded upon that idea in this 3rd game, it has to potential to be supremely fucking AWESOME.

Kesubei Sep 30, 2006 12:53 AM

Yes, Konami! Thank you, very very much.

I'm hoping for an expansion on the game world with this one. Despite how awesome the PS2 games are, my favorite of the ZOE series (anime included) was The Fist of Mars. It delivered a very good idea of what the hell was going on in the game world.

SouthJag Sep 30, 2006 01:30 AM

Praise be to Kojima. Any doubts I had were taken away after I saw the White Knight trailer, but this just sweetens the pot to the tenth degree. Now, if only the announcement for a PSP version of the game would come. That'd be sweet.

I can't decide whether or not I'd like to see Jehuty back in true 3D, or in that pseudo-3D/cel-shaded mix from the 2nd Runner.

BIGWORM Sep 30, 2006 01:49 AM

I think cel-shading on the PS3 would be a little too much. Well then again, they did do the cel-shading on a miniscule level, not heavy like Okami, or even Viewtiful Joe.

Skexis Sep 30, 2006 02:38 AM

So, I never got to play either the original or the sequel. Is it worth 45 bucks for a sealed copy of the second one?

I like shooter games, and I enjoyed Omega Boost (looks like kind of a precursor to this series) but I hated Panzer Dragoon. Am I going to get my money's worth paying near-full price, considering 2nd runner is somewhat rare now?

BIGWORM Sep 30, 2006 02:46 AM

Yeah, 2nd Runner is a rare game now. It's short, but it's oh so sweet--like Cowboy Bebop.

WolfDemon Sep 30, 2006 03:11 AM

Short? It seemed at least twice as long as ZOE 1 to me. But maybe that's because I kept getting my ass kicked during that part where you have to take out a bunch of gunships by destroying the core with the Vector Cannon. Easily one of the best final battles though. Like controlling an epic mecha anime fight. And letting you deliver the final blow was just icing on the cake.

This news excites me to no end. Maybe it'll be a prequel, a la Snake Eater, possibly going into the origins of Jehuty and Anubis?

Scarletdeath Sep 30, 2006 03:36 AM

No, it can't be a prequel. Anything backwards would bring in the anime's plot into the game. Before ZOE1, Anubis made an apprearance in the animu. No prequel PLEASE. Anything before the game's timeline would already be the anime, since it began there.

Yume Sep 30, 2006 04:45 AM

Oh great, the one anime game series I enjoyed playing will not be on the PS2.

Gonna have to seriously think about buying a PS3 now.

Actually if I remember correctly, the anime took place after ZOE 1 and sometime before ZOE 2. When Norman appears, I believe he talks to someone about Jehuty and how it was being piloted by a young boy (Leo) and I'm pretty sure there's a mention about the Aumaan (sp?) Project.

No, Idolo took place BEFORE the construction of Anubis and Jehuty, while the series took place took place before and during ZOE1.

BIGWORM Sep 30, 2006 01:18 PM

Yeah, Idolo was the protoype Orbital Frame, where Viola helps take it down. Afterwhich the location of the Frame Jehuty was made public, and Viola's off to Antilia. I think it was something like that...it's been 3 years since I've seen Idolo.

The whole story to Idolo is HERE

Nissay Sep 30, 2006 01:24 PM

Wow didn't know there would be a sequel, awesome! Man i still remember the first time i saw Anubis *drool XD

UltimaIchijouji Sep 30, 2006 05:14 PM

Thank you for selling a PS3 to me

Seriously, this finalizes it. FFXIII was eh, but between that and this, I will own a PS3. It may not be release date, but I will have one. Most definitely.

I enjoyed ZOE1 and 2 so much. I think I beat them in 1 day each but still. Hopefully online battles and a really long and involved story will come to play; they have a lot of space to fill on a Bluray disc, and every gigabyte is more ZOE, and thats always welcome.

Hantei Oct 1, 2006 03:54 AM

Sweet! Was waiting for an announcement like this. Another reason for me to get a PS3, truely the games do sell a system.

No doubt it'll be Jehuty for this, or at least a cameo from it, wouldn't be ZOE without that Orbital Frame (just like MGS wouldn't MGS without Solid Snake).

I speculate that if the OF is indeed Jehuty, Leo will be back to pilot. Man, I see them taking advantage of the PS3's motion sensitve capabilities. Perhaps, part of piloting the OF's will require use of that function.

Elixir Oct 1, 2006 04:09 AM

I'd like a confirmation on whether ZoE2 is worth the $50US it's going to take to get me a copy.

Infernal Monkey Oct 1, 2006 04:31 AM

I suppose that all depends on if you thought the first game was good because apparently the sequel's a lot better!

Spoiler:
I haven't played 2, but I hated the original SO MUCH =(

Elixir Oct 1, 2006 04:46 AM

Well I haven't played ANY of them. But I've seen a few videos of Zone of the Enders 2nd Runner on youtube, and they look like my sort of thing. And besides, it has VIC VIPER in it, so I'm beginning to wonder why I haven't discovered this game earlier.

I've heard (from reviews, websites in general, and so on) that the original title wasn't the greatest, but the sequel was much better. The PAL version of ZoE2 is selling for INSANE prices ($140 US?) over here so I'm considering ebaying the american version for a much more sane price.

Forsety Oct 1, 2006 04:47 AM

Er, as much as I liked ZOE2, it was a very short game and it most certainly wasn't any sort of epic masterpiece. I beat it the first time I sat down to play it, I think it took me 6 hours or so. I mean, I bought it full price and I didn't regret it, as it was an easy game to sit down and replay when I was bored; but I dunno if I'd pay $50 for a pre-played copy of the game.

SouthJag Oct 1, 2006 09:47 AM

Elixir, ZOE2 is very much worth the money. It is a fairly rare game to find. More importantly, it's extremely fun. A mech game with a decent targeting system and quality camera controls, pretty graphics, decent audio. Even though it's pretty short, you'll replay it at least twice to unlock everything, and it's easy to pick up and play again if you get bored, which is always a plus.

It's got a cool versus mode, and it's got a 3D version of Gradius (?) as well, featuring Vic Viper from ZOE2. Even the Konami code makes an appearance. You can also participate in a bunch of side missions similar to the VR missions in MGS:VR.

Simo Oct 1, 2006 10:06 AM

Before getting too excited you might want to wait for an actual developer comment or confirmation given the source of the news. I mean if ZOE3 is indeed development then where was the announcement at TGS?

There were rumblings about Kojima announcing a new title at TGS that turned out to be nothing special really but it's possible PSM expected this to be ZOE3 and ran with it.

Gechmir Oct 1, 2006 10:28 AM

Ooof. PS3 has already been stamped with a "SOLD" sticker in my mind. This only enforces that ;D Shit, can't believe I still don't own ZOE2. Totally gonna buy it soon. Only played through it once (rented), but CHRIST is it a good game.

Simo --
Scan of the page says that next month they will have information from Kojima about this. It's confirmed, unless they're slapping folks with a bold-faced lie. Which would be quite bad for a magazine to do...

Metal Sphere Oct 1, 2006 10:32 AM

These guys also received a PS3 just after this magazine scan made it's way onto the web, so it looks like they're doing a hands-on with the console for the next issue as well. This is pretty much confirmed, from the looks of it.

Rockgamer Oct 1, 2006 12:23 PM

Man, why the hell am I just now seeing this thread?

This is the first game I've seen for the PS3 that makes me want to buy the system, so even though I'm still not getting it at launch, whenever I do get one this will be the first game I get. Hell, I was gonna wait for a price drop before I got one (which I know could take years), but this just might change that.

guyinrubbersuit Oct 1, 2006 05:43 PM

I enjoyed the first ZOE, however it was way too short and didn't really feel like it tapped into its potential. I haven't played the second one but I want to. I guess a third one is good news, not a system seller in my mind. Maybe something to keep in mind whenever I eventually get a PS3.

If you haven't played the 2nd game, then you don't have the credibility to say what you said. Play ZoE2, and see if you still think of ZoE3 the same way.

They've actually just done a reissue of ZoE2, so you should check around if you don't have a copy and grab it.

ZoE2 runs rings around the original, in every way possible. Some of the fights/missions are just jaw dropping. Taking part an entire battlefleet by yourself and then later on somewhere around 500 enemies at once is incredible. Oh and the Vector Cannon. Hell, its worth buying for the Vector Cannon alone.

This hurts me too, because I told myself I wasn't going to get a PS3 unless ZoE3 was being released on it. DAMN YOU KOJIMA.

But seriously Elixir, it is so very very worth it. Its hard to find and I'm not sure when we'll see the reissue out here, I bought it on release and lost my copy and lucked out at Gamestop when I found a copy second hand, but you should most definately grab it if you get a chance. Try the store over in Footscray if you live in Victoria, they carry a lot of rare stuff there.

I just checked Ebay, but theres no ZoE2 on there atm in Aus.

Scarletdeath Oct 2, 2006 06:23 AM

^ Speaking of the Vector Cannon, I almost ALWAYS use the right analog stick to view the charging up process whenever it's deployed. When I replay the 2nd time, I'll select the option to equip all subweapons including the VC just so at the end, I can use the VC to deliver the final blow to you know who.

I hope it's included in ZoE 3 :p

SouthJag Oct 2, 2006 07:54 AM

Oh yeah I did the same thing. I'd pan the camera all the way around Jehuty when he's charging the Vector Cannon. It's awesome to watch.

Did you guys ever make use of the Yes/No options for Dingo's responses to ADA's recommendations for battle? For example, when she's constantly suggesting using Gauntlet as a weapon, if you tell her "No" often enough, she'll stop making recommendations, or if you say "Yes" she'll switch them automatically.

Also, doing that's the only way to earn an EX File key in Margaritifer -- when ADA tells you have 90 seconds to defeat the enemies, you have to use the "Yes" option to get Dingo to say he can do it.

Hauton Oct 2, 2006 08:56 AM

I never understood Zone of the Enders.

Well then again, I got stuck on the first.

Something about taking the sniper rifle to shoot and disable some force field mechanism/building/apparatus?

FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE.

Never was able to find where to shoot the fucking thing.

Never bothered to go back after popping my MGS2 demo disc in.

What? How? I never knew there was a yes/no thing. What do I press?

Gechmir Oct 2, 2006 02:45 PM

PRESS YES :-D

I think it involved using the D-pad, a la Ace Wombat.

Dude, I NEVER used any of the weapons in ZOE ('cept Vector Cannon). They struck me as weak, typically... (lol struck enemies weak more leik)

BIGWORM Oct 2, 2006 05:01 PM

Next to the Vector Cannon, I think the Halberd was my favorite subweapon.

eprox1 Oct 2, 2006 05:07 PM

I always remembered the homing missiles saving my life...especially in the air fleet battle. And ohh did it look pretty blowing everything up! Too bad that each round of missiles took up about half of your metatron/sub weapon energy...

I believe it's L3 for yes, and R3 for no. It's located in the manual though.

Quoted for failure.

That was probably the easiest thing to do in any game. You shoot the little lights with a sniper rifle.

Yes, thats right.

Also, in ZoE2, you don't worry about wussy stuff like a sniper rifle, you use a massive cannon of destruction that shreds anything infront of it to pieces.....or atoms....or something really small thats not there anymore. Rocks, enemies, walls, doors, glaciers, battleships etc etc.

Oh god I love using it on the level where you fight the hundreds of enemy mechs, then proceed to drag it across the screen and see a massive V shape of dots disappear off the radar.

Elixir Oct 3, 2006 04:00 AM

This won't make me buy a PS3 but damn, ZoE2 is VERY awesome. I rented it earlier tonight.

I especially like the controls in this game. I can't believe I've gone 3 years since this game's release without knowing about it at all. ;_;

Simo Oct 27, 2006 06:11 AM

As expected the latest issue of PSM has absolutely nothing inside about ZOE3despite the cover claiming they played it:

Damn, false advertising. I just found this out, since someone got the magazine and looked inside and found absolutely nothing to do with the game.

Not exactly good news.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Oct 27, 2006 12:12 PM

It's becoming more and more difficult to determine if PSM made the story up, since there is little to no info about it outside of the PSM source, and that I reacted completely falsely to this whole thing. Perhaps it's on the front cover to cover their ass for shoddy journalism, and just buy them time until it's either announced more concretely or until people forget about it so they can drop this issue.

I'm now extremely pissed.

Scarletdeath Oct 27, 2006 02:15 PM

So according to PSM3's blog:

Quote:

A few people have been asking where our ZOE3 coverage went - it got bumped at the very last minute due to extreme Konami secrecy. Rest assured, as soon as we're able to tell you anything about it, it'll appear in the mag and on this very blog. Stay tuned.

Right.

15 months later...
"Honestly, we wish we could tell you about the super secret unannounced ZOE3 but Konami's super ninjas stopped us as we went to print. We'll have more news when we can say something, in other words never."

They were probably banking on ZOE3 being announced at the Fall TGS.

I'm willing to bet this is the case.

I'm officially changing the first post to reflect that this is probably bullshit.

Fuck you PSM. Gargle a cock covered in cyanide.
