Devil May Cry - Series to Debut in 2007
Tokyo Game Show has kicked off in Japan and while alot of the focus during Capcom's presensation was on DMC4 for the PS3 it was also announced that a Devil May Cry TV series by Madhouse will debut in 2007 on WOWOW.
There's even a short promo and official site already up: http://dmc-tv.com/ |
I JUST found out about this you nerd :tpg:. Was about to make a thread, too.
Kick-ass news. I IM'd a bunch of people to verify that this was, indeed, an actual anime and not some manga deal. Fucking best news in a while. |
SWEET! An anime series that I'm actually looking forward for now!
I wonder when's this one taking place, I'd imagine between DMC3 and DMC1 from the concept images (outfits from both games could be seen). Be sweet if they could bring in the english VA cast of DMC3. Heh, especially considering that the norm for the DMC series has been english VA, to have japanese VA for the anime series would just seem a little awkward now. |
Just found out about it right now. A DMC anime is well within the realm of possibility, considering many recent anime shows have replicated the same kind of stylish action (Trinity Blood).
As long as the animation remains pretty, this won't fail. let's forget about disgaea for now. |
This is indeed exciting news. Considering how well Madhouse handled Gungrave, which is essentially the same type of crazy, shoot anything that moves game, I can't wait to see how they do with this.
|
I also forgot to mention the series will consist of 12 episodes.
The promo trailer on the site doesn't reveal much but you get an early look at some design work for Dante in the series: http://img120.imagevenue.com/loc444/..._122_444lo.jpghttp://img102.imagevenue.com/loc343/..._122_343lo.jpghttp://img107.imagevenue.com/loc389/..._122_389lo.jpghttp://img159.imagevenue.com/loc556/..._122_556lo.jpg http://img151.imagevenue.com/loc544/..._122_544lo.jpghttp://img121.imagevenue.com/loc357/..._122_357lo.jpg |
I hated Gungrave and didn't know Madhouse animated that too.
Commence the concern! |
ahah Devil May Cry is so great. After seeing it from a friend, i decided to go find out more about it, which lead me to read the book 'The Inferno' by Dante Algheri (i think thats how its spelt)... which is a great book, and the game really co-incides with some of the parts of the book. lol, i like the games with hidden meanings in em, and Devil May Cry really hits the spot !
|
I can't wait for it. If those designs are concepts for dante then that means that they're going to base it mostly around the dmc3 timeline. That means we may see lady and virgil, well thats what I'm hoping ^^
|
found out about this on anime news service
from the pictures it looks like its following DMC 3 timeline? there was a novel and manga which i still haven't picked up eh lets hope for the best its just said that anything anime with guns and undead thing becomes insanely popular |

That's excellent news, I just hope they handle it well.
|
I think Dante's character design is awesome. Can't wait to see more of it instead of that dinky trailer.
|
Couldn't care less...
What's DMC without neither the Versus coreographer and his insane cutscenes nor actual gameplay? Right. Just another marketing gag. |
I love DMC. I was hooked on DMC for a while when I first got it. I know that they have the DMC3 Manga, but now they're gonna air an Anime series? That's pretty cool.
|
A little belated but the official site for the series posted a new image from the anime just before the new year:
http://dmc-tv.com/images/picture.jpg It's nothing much but it at least gives you a sample of the art style for the series. |

A 12-ep satellite broadcast would most likely have a higher guaranteed standard, though. |
Pretty sweet, can't wait to see tv spot or something for it. Here's hoping that they deliver on the action and animation! Has an air date been announced yet? Heh, as this is the first anime series I actually wanna follow in over a year now (past year or so has kinda been meh for me).
|
|
Sweet! We're back in business. Liking the series' music so far. Also to note that the anime series will be featuring a japanese VA cast, first time DMC has had it.

The teaser didn't show much but so far so good. |
I'm curious as to why Trish and Lady are gonna BOTH show up.
CATFIGHT!!! :D :D :D :D In alll seriousness, I hope this anime turns out good. |
Can anybody post information on that website regarding the series, it's cast of characters, and their respective voice actors? If so, then Lady and Trish might not be in there.
I never cared for Trish. She always looked like a cracked-out whore and annoyed me. Lady, on the other hand is always welcome. All we need now is some animated Vergil/Nelo Angelo~ |

I wonder where this chronogically fits in the series, I imagine it'd probably be between 1 and 4 if Trish is present (as from the game's perspective, we first meet her in DMC). Then again, if it's set between 3 and 1 we'll have a more likely chance to see some Vergil/Nelo Angelo character development. Ahh, June 14th is still so far away... |
I heard RAW is out, is this true?
|
Might this be based on the manga? There's a story set before the third game where Dante has to save a little girl named Alice from a bunch of Wonderland-inspired demons, right? The trailer shows a little girl, so maybe it's one and the same.

How the hell could a RAW be out if the anime itself isn't out yet? Pime Taradox.
|
Thats just funny how they are going to release a anime with DMC as Dante as the main char (I think Dante is fucking awesome) but looks like in DMC4 they are gonna kill him...Be a bit distracting to people playing DMC4 and thinking of watching the series.
|
They can't kill Dante off. He's too popular a character and Capcom probably won't have the balls to do this. Though they officially said that Nero was not Vergil, another really popular character thanks largely to DMC3's portrayal, I can only see the new 'lead' of DMC4 being Dante's brother in some form. The somewhat blue clothing, white hair, and the use of a revolver (though Vergil didn't like guns, it's the only kind of gun I can picture him using).
|
Probably but Japanese are so hard to predict when it comes down to endings, usually they go one way and then *BAM* everything went the other way. I mean to boot its Capcom look at RE series and Onimusha the endings were a bit weird and not what anyone expected.
|
|
That's.... pretty damn hot.
|
Ha! That sword is just ridiculous. I don't think it was anywhere near that massive in the games. Hopefully it's not like that in the final product.
|
Well it doenst really look like the sword is on his back but more an backgrond element since there is no strap to hold the sword.
|
Raw version of episode/mission 1 is out now, kinda weird as I thought the show wasn't supposed to start airing till June 14th.

@Hantei:
I need subtitle for English if you have. |
Which sequel of DMC is this anime based on anyway?
|
It's not about any of the games, but it seems to be in the timeframe of 3 and 1.
After what seemed like a fairly promising opening (no Dante-humor was my main complaint), the rest of the episode just got progressively worse. If the second or third episode doesn't show signs of improvement, I'll probably just ignore this series. |
Can you elaborate Generic Badass? I like to know more, I don't watch raws much and rather see what other people think first.
|
They spent way more time making sure there was about 372 gallons of blood spraying out during each fight than giving Dante any depth or showing his melee skills (he only uses Force Edge in the opening fight and the very last, and only very briefly). He spends the majority of his time being a total hardass, so you are reminded more of the Devil May Cry 2 Dante than anything else.
For me, I wanted this to be about how Dante goes from a complete jokester who occasionally messes something up when he tries to act cool (broken jukebox, sneezing and making his office collapse) in 3 to the calmer, more skilled one who still has a good sense of humor in the original. |
Didn't he use High Time and Juggle as well? Well, I agree that Dante's attitude was a little off of what I had expected. He was totally the invincible hero here . I was also expecting a little slapstick here and there. Well, I guess we'll see how the later episodes play out before making any real decisions about whether or not to continue watching the series.
Was this episode a preview of some sort? The end still gave show details and a date: June 14th. :33: |
Erm, I dunno about some of you guys, but I really enjoyed the first episode. While Dante wasn't exactly prancing about joking like he typically did in the (good) games, he still felt recognizable. Hopefully he'll loosen up some and joke around a bit more in episode 2.
My only concern about this show was whether or not the action would be fluid, stylized, and well-choreographed. All three concerns were silenced as the episode progressed. There were also plenty of elements of humor, especially in the second to last fight at the opera house. While it's too early to judge the series as positive or negative, it has plenty of potential to get better. So far, it's main weakness is a less-than-jovial Dante, which still has room for development. |
I Found the episode too generic to lebel it as DMC worthy. Too much so-so shooting sequences and not enough Rebellion usage. It's not bad but it could've been a LOT better.
|
Well the first episode officially aired 2 days ago. From the quick glances I took it looks identical to the premiere episode at the beginning of month, though, I never really did watch the whole premiere one. Anyway looks like Lady will be making an appearance in the next episode/Mission: Highway Stars.
To the raw version. http://bt.saiyaman.info/details.php?id=4617 Does anyone know which groups out there are subbing the series, and which group is the one to follow? Heh, it's been a long time since I've followed any anime series. BTW, check out WOWOW's DMC website. You can find a nice profile pic of Trish and Lady on the characters page. http://www.wowow.co.jp/anime/dmc/ |
Well, Kuro-Hana & NEET Fansubs have released the first episode. I haven't seen it yet so I can't comment on the quality, but at least someone picked it up.
http://kuro-hanasubs.com/bt/dmc01lq.torrent  |
Well, a couple of days ago episode 2: Highway Star was released. Lady makes an appearance and it seems Dante is majorly annoyed with her (probably because he owes her so much money). She ropes him into a job involving motorcyle racers when he loses a bet against her (seriously, his luck sucks when it comes to silly gambling).
Why is Patty still around? I was hoping we would be rid of her after episode 1... I watched ACG's sub for episode 2, as Kuro-Hana & NEET failed to release their version (I heard NEET dropped out or something). AnimeOne & Conclave have joined forces for this series and have also released episodes 1 and 2. |
So far, is it worth watching it? Especiallly if you're a fan of DMC and stuff?
|
It's hard to say. I love DMC and was really gung-ho about the series, but episode two was just plain disappointing. Lady's introduction was kind of cool, but the action feels stilted and uninspired 90% of the time. Episode 1 had a nice introduction with Dante, but these 'monsters of the week' deals are annoying.
The OP, which for whatever reason ends up playing somewhere in the episode(s), is irritating too. Feels like a cheap, cliche opening theme. I'm still going to check up on a few more episodes before passing judgement, but it's on the back burner for now. |
Well......I thought it was kind of okay. The animation is clear and crisp though you may realize the story is pretty much non-existant (I mean, it doesn't seem to be following any plot at the moment, it's just one job here and one job there for Dante). But, maybe everything ties in a little bit later.
The action was pretty good in the first episode, though there were times I wasn't sure what exactly happened after the dust settles (kind'a like when I play the games. No matter how good or skilled you are, there will always come a time when you throw strategy out the window and settle for insane button-mashing, and then wonder how the hell you managed to get through all that in the end. I kind of feel like that :p ). But I have to agree the action in episode 2 was kind of meh... I thought the music was okay, and the OP in episode 2 shows Dante, Trish and Lady killing all manner of demons so I'm still psyched about the show. I'm still waiting to see Trish's appearance in the series and what her relationship to Dante is as well.... Spoiler:
Well, the anime got me interested in getting these again: http://h1.ripway.com/hikarub/EbonynIvory_01.jpg Too bad it's only a kit and have to paint them yourselves... |
