Cats vs. Dogs... Go play with your fucking fish, Kurado.

The last time this thread was made people got so heated up the thread was moved to the sewers, then eventually closed. Someone even semi continued it in the testing forum.

Cats vs. Dogs. What do you prefer? List pros and cons of each if you`d like.

Me, in the end, I`m a cat person. Easy to train, very clean, and they don`t fucking jump all over you all the time. No barking, etc.

Currently there`s a dog where I live. Good little bastard. I mean, you can train a dog to not do most of the stupid shit they naturally do. But most people don`t have the time or patience for that. In this regard cats are much more convenient. The nice thing about a dog though is he`ll always be there to give you love. A cat has to be in the mood. I guess cats are more... Humanlike. The novelty of a dog is that you can kick the fucking shit out of him and he`ll love you in 30 seconds like nothing ever happened. A cat will probably take a chunk out of you and maybe take a week to get over it.

Celes Chere Sep 20, 2006 04:22 PM

Cats! I have several (well, actually, more than several, but I won't go into exactly how many). I've been around cats all my life and I can't imagine living without one. My one cat pretty much follows me around everywhere and even wakes me up in the morning. He's a sweetheart.

I don't dislike dogs, but I'm definately more of a cat person. If I see a stray dog I won't go near it (heck, depending on the dog I may even run) but if I see a stray cat I can't help but go 'aww' at it.

Such a Lust for Revenge! Sep 20, 2006 04:24 PM

That`s right. I like the direction the poll`s taking already. First Coke SMASHED Pepsi, now cats are showing their dominance. What`s next...

Domino Sep 20, 2006 04:49 PM

I guess it's cats for me as well. I just find that they are a whole lot less annoying than dogs. Dogs tend to bark way too much (especaily the dog next door.)

Worm Sep 20, 2006 04:57 PM

The sole advantage of dogs is that they are ALWAYS READY.

Fortunately, cats are small enough that you can grab them if they're not in the mood for whatever program you want them to get with. In general, I just feel they have more personality. Too many dogs are just subtle variations on that basic personality type that is best expressed as: "I like things! And stuff! Oh boy, let's go!"

Leknaat Sep 20, 2006 05:34 PM

I grew up with 4 dogs and 3 cats, then when I moved out--I got a cat.

I love cats. I never have to walk her, and she's there for me when I get home.

I swear I cried a bucket when my first cat died. Then I got the one I have now, and man, is she a handful! But I wouldn't trade her for anything.

Marl Sep 20, 2006 08:56 PM

I'm allergic to cats and they hate me.

For example, my aunt' cat scratched all the way down my leg when I was 8. There were a couple huge red lines on my shin.

PiccoloNamek Sep 20, 2006 08:58 PM

I love cats. They're so cute and wittle bittle itty witty...

*ahem*

But yeah, cats are soft and cuddly and holdable, and all of mine are trained to meow when I say "Baby!" or "Kitty!".

kat Sep 20, 2006 09:34 PM

I've never owned a cat so I say dog by default. I'd agree when people say they're stupidly addicted to you and won't give you a second's peace when you just want them to go away, but that's just the nature of the dog. They love you no matter what, idiotic love that takes them to the ends of the world. And that's what makes them so great.

Cats are cuddlly though and if they didn't run away all the time, I might just love them as much. But cats suck more that they have more natural defenses, when all dogs have are teeth. And if you have a dog like mine, his mouth is so small all he can get around is my finger, much less a major limb.

Lizardcommando Sep 21, 2006 12:02 AM

I'd rather be bitten by a dog than scratched by a cat.

Seriously, I'd go with dogs. Yeah, dogs can be noisy, but I'm allergic to cats, so they automatically lose.

*AkirA* Sep 21, 2006 12:41 AM

Dogs for the win. Cats are for chicks and faggots. I despise caturday, and I find any form of humor lost when a cat is involved.

Dogs actually act like they wanna be around you, and they show affection. If you want a pet and decide to get a cat, you should just buy a pillow and put nails in it. Every now and then have someone run in and throw the pillow, nails and all, at you while your sleeping, and yell "ENJOY YOUR CAT, FAGGOT!"

Shonos Sep 21, 2006 01:10 AM

Cats for me. I have had many cats and currently own 3.

I agree with the cats are more human like thing. With dogs they just blindly love you. With cats you have to earn their trust. If you piss them off they're going to stay pissed for awile. Ive had dogs before and they're good pets too. But I found cats much better as a friend/pet.

Once you earn a cat's trust and build a relationship with one it becomes a very lovable and friendly companion. Like dogs they will seek you out for attention or caring. I've had my cats for years and every day they will all jump up to me or down on me to rub themsevles up against me or curl up to nap in my lap.

If I leave the house they will actually whine/meow untill I come back and can get pretty upset if left alone too long. Two of them will follow me around the house and try to stay around me when they're lonely every now and then.

The only problem with cats is they're pretty hard to train. If they don't want to do something they are not going to do it. So if they dont want to learn they aren't going to pay attention or absorb it. But it's not impossible. They atleast learn what is okay and not okay. My cats adapted to my voice and body language to communicate with me or understand me. So they know if they have fucked up or if I'm in a good/bad mood. They've learned ways to make me understand what they want too.

The plus side of cats is they're pretty clean animals and take care of themselves. No need to walk them so they can go to the bathroom. No need to wash them alot since they wash themselves constantly.

Oh yeah, fun little tidbit. A cat is capable of 100+ different vocalizations with meowing alone. A dog is only capable of 10 with their barking. So cats can be very talkative animals. That's not counting their purring, body language, clicking, hissing, or growling too.

Megavolt Sep 21, 2006 01:46 AM

Dogs all the way. I don't trust cats and I somehow always manage to get cut by those damn claws. I read an article once that pretty much debunked the idea that cats are smarter than dogs, so I don't consider that baseless little knock against dogs anymore. One of the things the writer talked about was how social skills are also a measurement of intelligence, and dogs are obviously more sociable and trainable than cats, so I'm sure that they're also reasonably intelligent as far as domesticated animals go.

I will say that I might prefer for my immediate neighbors to own cats instead, because I hate it when dogs bark at night while I'm trying to sleep. I started to hate that dog which used to reside next door. The bastard was paranoid or something and would let out these odd shrieking barks at night. Fortunately, my dog is the coolest.

Golfdish from Hell Sep 21, 2006 02:12 AM

Dogs, no contest. I've owned 2 dogs (and babysat for several others) and 1 cat in my lifetime. Never saw the cat at all...Only memory I have of her was waking up one morning and watching her chase a mouse. She was rather anti-social (and we were always nice to her too).

Dogs are more "in your face" and more expressive overall (barking and all), while keeping the relaxed/secluded nature of cats at times. I can relate to that better than I ever could with my cat. I consider my dog (a labrador-border collie mix) to be the perfect companion, in either hyper mode or peaceful R and R mode. It's scary how much she understands...

DragoonKain Sep 21, 2006 02:50 AM

I love cats. I had one cat in my life for 9 years, until she died. She was the love of my life and I will never own another pet for as long as I live. She will never be replaced.

I'm insanely and I mean insanely allergic to animals, and I suffered through almost 10 years of coughing, wheezing weezing, eye scratching and having trouble breathing because I loved my cat too much.

I like dogs a lot too, but prefer cats.

Unas Sep 21, 2006 03:53 AM

Ah dogs all the way man, I've had 3 (the third being still alive) and I'm soon getting another for company for that dog. Cats are stuck up as hell, they really are, the only thing they're loyal to is themselves, I friggin' hate em'.

Course I understand the problems people can have with keeping dogs, especially in a city, but its never happened to me so I only have good things to say so yeah, dogs pour la win and whatnot!

RABicle Sep 21, 2006 05:37 AM

Just locked up the vote again it seems.

Cats r better k coz they can take care of themselves unlike dogs who lick their balls lol

Yggdrasil Sep 21, 2006 05:50 AM

Dogs FTW. Yeah sure cats have more "personality" but when you need to cuddle a pet or something the last thing you need is to find out is that your pet ain't in the mood for cuddles or what not. Dogs are more reliable, they can be counted as one of life's constants. Sure dogs aren't great at cleaning themselves but then again washing your dog can be quite fun and doesn't (really shouldn't) feel like a chore, after all maintaining your pet is simply part of really owning a pet in my opinion.

Muzza Sep 21, 2006 06:06 AM

I'd have to say dogs, but I really like cats, too. My family's only ever had one cat (which is still with us) and my father's alergic to it, meaning we won't be getting any more when she goes..:(

We've always had more dogs, anyway. Not any of the really energetic, aggressive dogs, just the friendly, laid-back ones. They always bring a smile to my face.

niki Sep 21, 2006 07:00 AM

What with all the "Dogs have no personality" crap? Dogs can have a hell of a personality if you let it bloom and aren't one of those idiots who need something to test their authority on at all times.

Also, while you can kinda talk about "cats" as a whole, I find it hard to talk about every races of dogs as being uniform. Differences in personalities between races are huge.

I like both cats and dogs. I like the mysterious behaviours of cats, the way they play and the occasional proofs of love they give you. What I dislike about them is their cruelty and the fact you sometimes feel they belong to who feed them most. I'm talking about those cats who gets food all over the neighbourhood from other people and torture helpless rodents for hours.

As for dogs, well, you can run, fight, play all kind of games with them. A dog can truly become a companion of every moments. Although he will always naturally consider at least one of the persons of the family as being above him, it's amusing to witness how they sometimes feel with young children and act like they have a responsability to educate them. Dogs can truly become an active part of a family if they're given the chance, while cats always keep their distances at some point. Oh yeah, the ways dogs look at you too. While cats always keep the somewhat confictual eye contact thing, dogs actually like to communicate through eyes contacts with humans. I always try to make eye contacts with dogs I cross in the street. Pretty amazing how you sometimes feel some not only look back at you but change their facial expression to something that looks like a smile.

But yeah, to me dogs are also linked to the countryside life and all the running around in nature. I don't see myself having a dog without a large garden and a house at the countryside. So yeah, ferrets all the way in the small appartment I'm in right now. The day I move to my dream house though, it will be dogs and cats.

Musharraf Sep 21, 2006 12:07 PM

I don't have much time so I prefer cats. I also think that Cats is an awesome musical, while Dogs sucks.

RABicle Sep 21, 2006 12:25 PM

That's a good point Mush and I think paired with my "dogs lick balls" argument, we have a good case!

I know what you mean. I had Boxi for over 10 years, and she can never be replaced--but she does have a successor.

Tizzler Sep 21, 2006 03:01 PM

My vote goes to Cats. I happen to have a very friendly and affectionate cat who has made some of my friends who were strictly dog lovers re-evaluate their opinions. I managed to raise my cat to be open to anybody, I have friends who he has never seen come in, pick him up and cuddle him with his response being to cuddle back TO THE EXTREME. Oh and it's funnier to get a cat stoned than a dog because I notice the cat appreciates the buzz more, a dog usually sits, drools, and stares at a wall.

goldeneye2131 Sep 21, 2006 03:10 PM

Cats.

Quiet, will sit in my lap while I read or work on the computer, traditionally small (preferred if they sleep on my bed), easily trained, and oh so cuddly!!

no drooling, loud noises, getting into the trash, or fighting me for bed space.

Metal Sphere Sep 21, 2006 04:46 PM

Dogs, on the whole, far more useful and friendly. Not to mention they look much more attractive than cats, which act and look like mini drag queens.

Bernard Black Sep 21, 2006 04:51 PM

I'd have to say a dog. I've had one for a year now and although he's high maintanance (border collie = incredibly hard work), he's far more affectionate than the three cats I lived with as a child. I love cats, but I seem to have a connection with my dog that was lacking with the cats.

As for fighting for bed space, my dog sleeps downstairs. I remember my brother's cat always used to use my bed as her nap spot, or decided to curl up on my stomach when I had to be up for school. And loud noises? The amount she makes when she gets into fights with the other cats in her territory is incredible.

Chibi Neko Sep 22, 2006 07:57 AM

Cats for me! I have two cats, along with my rats, ferret and gerbils. So I am all round animal person but cats are my fave by far!

Kolba Sep 22, 2006 02:04 PM

I can't even think of one cool movie villain that owned a dog.

PiccoloNamek Sep 22, 2006 02:42 PM

Does anybody else here hate those stupid little lap dogs? You know the kind I'm talking about. I can't go for a walk in my own neighborhood anymore without being assaulted by some little squirrel-sized dog. They bark at me and charge at me like they're tough shit, but turn tail and run in terror if you even look at them. Of course, as soon as you look away, they start chasing you again. Normal sized dogs never act like this. They are confident in their dogginess and don't feel the need to chase innocent passersby.

Not only do they think that they are tough shit, but they also believe that they own everything they see, and sometimes they will follow me quite a ways down the road before turning back. Just yesterday one of them ran across the road toward me and made a truck slam on its brakes.

God, I hate toy dogs. I wish I could just kick them every time they come up to me.

Of course, this is never a problem with cats. I can walk up to any cat in the neighborhood and say "Kitty!" and we're instant friends.

scotty Sep 22, 2006 03:36 PM

I like dogs better sometimes, alot of cats I've seen have had bad attitudes. Every once in awhile I'll meet a cat that doesn't randomly bite me, or grab my leg when going down the stairs. I have a shitzu poodle that only barks when it suspects someone is coming up the door steps and will shut up once you tell her its ok. It isn't needy and likes to be alone alot and just hangs out in a certain spot of the house until your ready to feed it. It begs but not annoying begging, it just sits next to you and hopes you give her something. It only weighs 8 pounds, and it doesn't scratch the shit out of your crotch like my cats do. It doesn't kill rabbits and leave its head on the doorstep either.

Toy dogs irritate me like you wouldn't believe. I especially hate celebrities who like to carry them around in their idiotic handbags like some kind of fashion accessory. They're animals, not fucking bracelets, and even toy dogs deserve more dignity and better care than being stuffed into a bag and fed creamcakes all day :/

One other pet peeve of mine - Why in hell do people dress up their animals?

Fatt Sep 22, 2006 04:28 PM

Dogs have masters, and cats have wait staff.

I like cats because you earn their respect, and they earn your respect. I have ten alleycats that gathered around my opera house because I would toss left over fish out for them to feast on. People have told me "but what if a cat chokes on a bone or eats something that is not good for them?" They are alleycats. If I didn't give them ANY food, they would have died off to begin with. Dogs are just too dependent.

Such a Lust for Revenge! Sep 22, 2006 06:01 PM

Fucking dogs CANNOT win this. But at least it`s close.

lillithaya Sep 24, 2006 12:21 PM

Dogs!!! They are so loyal, and they always cheer me up.

tommboi Sep 24, 2006 04:13 PM

Dogs, they are more loyal and fun to play with. They are more active and will protect you if they think someone is going to hurt you, while cats will just sit there and watch.

Jochie Sep 24, 2006 04:56 PM

For me, cats are better just because of the give-and-take thing, but not all dogs are blindly loyal. I doubt they all try to jump on and drool all over everyone, either. Cats do sometimes get into trash cans, by the way. Of course, each animal is different, depending on how they're raised.

Kittens are generally more adorable than puppies. FACT.

Infernal Monkey Sep 24, 2006 05:42 PM

Pish posh (always wanted to type that somewhere), dogs as small as cats are the best. You get the best of both worlds, Earth and... the.. Sun, I guess. You can't throw a tennis ball to a cat! Well, you can, but it's just gonna sit there, maybe do a cool freaky back stretch and probably vomit up a can of tuna.

"YOU CALL THIS A GIFT? YOU DIDN'T EVEN TAKE THE LID OFF"

J-Man Sep 24, 2006 07:34 PM

I'm on the dog side for this one. As a simultaneous cat and dog owner right now, I get a lot more fun out of my dog, and I have noticed that cats are very fickle. My cat (stuck up assface of an animal) will ignore any attempt of affection towards itself and then sit beside me and scream for a head scratch or a belly pat. No fucking way I'm petting it, at least not till Seinfeld's over.

My cat plays with a tennis ball. So THERE!

And Cat fact:

Sometimes cats enjoy the buzz off pot more because they have the catnip gene. If they don't have it--they don't get high from catnip, either....

Infernal Monkey Sep 25, 2006 03:37 AM

You people with your fancy cats! =o Maybe I've been wrong about them all this time! I'm going to pelt a bunch of them with tennis balls tomorrow and take home the ones that catch them!

Such a Lust for Revenge! Sep 25, 2006 05:07 PM

Cats are back on top. That´s right.

Yeah monkey, cats can´t catch those balls. WHAT FUN TO HAVE PETS THAT CATCH BALLS. I was just throwing a ball for the dog at my place. Threw one too close to a wall and the dog just slid and slammed head first into the wall. Clumsy, uncoordinated fucking animal.

YOU FAIL AT LIFE GOOD SIR. >8(

http://www.gamingforce.com/forums/at...g?d=1143557505

These are my two dogs Duke and Duchess.

In all honest OO, I do have to agree with you. I've had smart dogs before but Duchess (the one in white) can be pretty damn stupid when she wants to be.

Best example: One day I was outside and decided to toss a tennis ball. The ball was larger than most, I dont remember why, and it had been outside for a long time and had lost most of its cover.

I picked it up, tossed it at her, her eyes turned into HUGE saucers and she ran off at Mach 10 yelping like wild lighning. So I pick up the ball and chase her trying to calm her down, right?

I toss the ball and this crazy ass dog, manages to SQUEEZE HERSELF through a tight hole in the face and runs off down the street just going "YIPE YIPE YIPE YIPE YIPE!!!!!!" as loud as she can scream. I guess I should feel bad for laughing but I damn near keeled over in laughter at that incident.

Duchess returned 3 days later: hungry, looking all kinds of scraggly, and sitting on my front porch. I pull out the ball 2 days later and she does it all over again, except now she cringes and crouches into a ball whenever I come near her whether I'm holding the tennis ball or not... XD

Vestin Sep 25, 2006 08:30 PM

Fuck cats, dogs are where its at.

Especially pitbulls, those things got spunk.

Krelian Sep 26, 2006 03:04 PM
