EXCITE TRUCK (BIG DAMN TRUCKS)

This so needed its own thread. Excite Truck is all about trucks.
BIG DAMN TRUCKS.
Exciting ones at that. For these trucks can go extremely fast, yet there's still a boost feature on top of that! This leads to massive jumps, crazier than even the old San Francisco Rush games! And you might get flung into the sky when you least expect it, the game has landscapes that change in real time, by hitting power ups the ground will morph, creating sudden hills or dips sending everyone everywhere. There also appear to be natural disasters going on in some stages like tornados or exploding volcanos that'll screw around with you. You can even drive along the Great Wall of China if you want!

Managing to land your truck on top of another will earn you points, as will taking shortcuts through areas filled with trees to smash into. Hell, you even get points for crashing. The game just looks like a hell of a lot of FUN. It also reminds me of the fact that Midway had to go and kill the Rush series with that bloody awful LA Rush. Anyway hey yeah, it's developed by Monster Games, there's a two player mode, the music's awesome and it's due out at launch. BEST GAME AT LAUNCH I THINK SO! Big damn trucks > angsty boy wearing a skirt.

BIG DAMN JUMPS

chaofan Sep 17, 2006 08:57 AM

Sigh... How did we know you were going to start this thread soon?

Finally, after all those years of Mario-Karting via moving the controller, I can finally do it and get results! (Actually, I don't do that these days but back then I used to physically turn like mad).

With this game, will there be a need for Mario Kart or F-Zero?

Infernal Monkey Sep 17, 2006 09:08 AM

Dunno about Mario Kart, but there's always need for Captain Falcon! He's our heeeeerrrroooooo. His theme song doesn't lie!

Gechmir Sep 17, 2006 09:45 AM

If I want big trucks, I'll wait for the next Shadow the Hedgehog game, thankyouverymuch! :O

insertnamehere Sep 17, 2006 09:51 AM

Hey can you land on other trucks and destroy them sorta like beetle adventure.

Wall Feces Sep 17, 2006 09:59 AM

I honestly can't see Mario Kart and especially F-Zero being played the way Excite Truck is being played. Successful racing in both games rely on drifting which would be a real pain the the balls combined with tilting the controller. I think they should rely on a more traditional control method for those games... Maybe with MK you can aim where you want to fire your items off with the Wiimote, though...

But I digress.

BIG DAMN TRUCKS!!!!!!! <3

If you ask me, this is gonna be THE multiplayer game to get for the Wii this fall. I wonder what sorta multiplayer modes will actually even be in the game. Have they indulged us on any multiplayer info yet? I'm gunning for a BIG DAMN BATTLE MODE!

NovaX Sep 17, 2006 10:46 AM

there is no launch game i would rather get than EXCITE TRUCK, but alas no NAL confirmation! I NEED CONFIRMATION!

Darkcomet72 Sep 17, 2006 10:51 AM

Well, this game has BIG DAMN TRUCKS, so that should be sufficient reason enough to buy the game.

But seeing the game in action, it looks insanely awesome. The gameplay is fast paced, and jumps are sick. My only gripe is how simple and straightforward the levels seem to be, but I guess that's the only way BIG DAMN TRUCKS can move so BIG DAMN FAST.

How come it took this long to make this topic Infernal

Cobalt Katze Sep 17, 2006 11:50 AM

The unfortunate part is that it's only 2player in multiplayer. So sayeth the feature list.

Is there any question that it would be even more entertaining with 4? Wonder why it doesn't support that.

Darkcomet72 Sep 17, 2006 12:57 PM

WTF I should've read that description, Infernal.

I saw the JUMPS video, and it featured some awesomeBIG DAMN JUMPS. I loved the camera angles during the jumps, very immersive. The Morphing ground was extremely disorientating, but cool nevertheless

Only 2 player? That's upsetting.

Metal Sphere Sep 17, 2006 01:02 PM

I'm loving what I'm seeing so far. Over the top situations, utter madness and ridiculously fast trucks? Sounds like fun.

Nintendonomicon Sep 17, 2006 01:52 PM

Eff that ess!! We need Waverace!

Excite Truck looks quite fun, but the game seems to give you stars for the most tivial things.

Yep, there was a video back from E3 where a BIG DAMN TRUCK landed on another (with a 'NICE LANDING' bonus), sending him rolling off with bits going everywhere. ='D

Nothing but just straight out EXCITING two player racing's been shown so far, but it'd be so awesome if there was a battle mode or even something like soccer. That was the best part of Monster Truck Madness 64!

I'll shake my fist with generic rage so hard if they push it back, SO MUCH NAL, SO MUCH!

I was going to make it earlier, but then along came a BIG DAMN TRUCK and I had to run for my life!

avanent Sep 17, 2006 06:18 PM

I dont much care for racing games other than mario kart. However, this has been sounding a bit like beetle adventure racing. Which was a great game.

I might just have to try out these BIG DAMN TRUCKS.

I like the idea of the terrain being affected in real time.

Cobalt Katze Sep 17, 2006 06:23 PM

Oh man. Oh man. Jumping over the freaking BIG DAMN TITANIC.

Okay not really, but awesome!

J-Man Sep 17, 2006 06:42 PM

The still screenchots really don't do the BIG DAMN TRUCKS justice. They make the graphics look terrible. Not saying that they are stellar, but that game was definately meant to go BIG DAMN FAST!

HostileCreation Sep 17, 2006 07:40 PM

I don't know how to make gigantic text, so I can only express my enthusiasm for BIG DAMN TRUCKS through CAPITAL LETTERS.

This is one of the games I'm certain I want to get, possibly at launch. Terrain reforming itself in realtime? BIG DAMN TRUCKS? BIG DAMN JUMPS?
There's no word for that but BIG DAMN FUN.

Seriously. You can't even make out the BIG DAMN AIR being made in those screenshots. I don't think there's a game where there was such a difference of presentation through screenshots and videos.

And that BIG DAMN SHIP-THINGY is far larger than the titanic.

And LOLing at "Super Tree Run". This game was made with heart and soul.

EDIT: To make the Gigantic text, use these tags without spaces: [ size=7 ] (Text goes here) [ /size ]

Expressing your excitement is easier if you 'go advanced' while replying.

Infernal Monkey Sep 17, 2006 11:24 PM

That's a BIG DAMN SIG you've got there! Might as well chuck in the remaining screens of the BIG DAMN TRUCKS!

Those BIG DAMN PICTURES are amazing. I think we might need a BIG DAMN TRUCK smiley. What say you?

That BIG DAMN LEANING TOWER strikes my curiosity.

Those BIG DAMN JUMPS in the trailer were pretty DAMN AMAZING.

Mascot racers and futuristic racers will always need something to aspire to.

Lucas-AMN Sep 18, 2006 04:23 AM

I love arcade racer, thus I'll be playing this easily.

Burp Sep 18, 2006 07:03 PM

The game seems very fast and "arcade-style", also the jumps are really nice, so i like it... but im the only here who saw BIG DAMN GLITCHES in the game? look at the video posted by Infernal Monkey... there is a nasty sea/sand glitch between 00:14 and 00:18, also a lot of pop up...

You sure will say to me "these are minimal problems" but oh well... "next-gen lolz"

NovaX Sep 18, 2006 09:13 PM

Question: Any idea what happens after you reach the maximum amount of star points?

FatsDomino Sep 19, 2006 12:50 AM

Okay this is fun and all guys but it's beginning to look like spam. This isn't Testing/City Streets.

Yeah, I'll be getting this game. Reminds me of Beetle Adventure Racing, a game that deserved a sequel. An EA game no less! How's that possible?!

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Sep 19, 2006 02:54 PM

Holy SHIT. Acer liked Beetle Adventure Racing too? Motherfucking AWESOME.

A shame that game was as short as it was though. Needed to be like....100 tracks long and 400 hours of gameplay time. Because it ruled.

Prinnydood Sep 19, 2006 05:37 PM

I gotta say at first I didn't really care about this title at all. But then I saw a couple of videos the other day and it looks awesome! The graphics look really great (screenshots don't do it justice at all) and the insanely high jumps and speeds seem great and a little burnout-esque...atleast the speed part. Hope it turns out good cuz I'll definately pick it up if it lasts.

Australia exclusively got the sequel, HSV Adventure Racing.

Spoiler:
Sequel as in all they did was replace the cars with what they hoped we'd go nuts for and gave the announcer an Aussie accent. Oh and they put borders all around the screen so it ran in a small window. Most confusing decisions ever!

TheReverend Nov 28, 2006 03:56 AM

Hello? Who has this game and what do you think of it?

Darkcomet72 Dec 3, 2006 11:37 AM

Chiming in to say <3 this game.

The learning curve was a bit different for me, but it is possible to get used to, and right now I'm loving this game. Currently unlocked Super Excite; the game has quite a number of unlockables giving it a nice replay value.

The challenges are not insane, but rather insanely long. I haven't finished any of them yet :(

Infernal Monkey Feb 26, 2007 09:17 AM

Oh yeah, finally got this. <3 This game was the whole reason I wanted a Wii, so why I bought the machine at launch when the game wasn't a launch title here WHO KNOWS. But man this is a big damn load of fun. Even the bad wah wah pissrock music reminds me of Midway's old arcade racers. The controls work really, really well. It's refreshing after battling with Downhill Jam's slow reaction times with the tilting.

Managing to toss all the CPU trucks at once and watch them flip into the side of the Great Wall of China is one of those precious el oh el moments in gaming.

Krelian Feb 26, 2007 10:34 AM

Loving it. I was so happy when I unlocked Razor, which I assumed was the last truck, then Super Excite mode is available and hey there's another stack of them here. I don't see replay value being great after I unlock everything, but this game is amazingly fun. Controls feel very natural after an hour or so, too.

nazpyro Feb 26, 2007 11:09 AM

Why am I not in this thread? :(

Yes, BIG DAMN TRUCKS was definitely my favorite game since the Wii launch here for the first month or so (until Elebits). Then after Elebits was complete, BDT became the top game again. :p

But I've stopped playing it since unlocking everything. The only-2-player-without-CPUs multiplayer really doesn't add much for replay value. ;_;

That was back before EA fired up their massive sequel factory and bought every game developer on the planet.

I remember being amazed at all the funny stuff you could find in that game, like the sounds after you run into a telephone booth if you stay to listen to them. Why does no one put awesome shortcuts into racing games anymore? I miss RUSH and BAR so very much. BIG DAMN TRUCKS is a step in the right direction though.

I played RUSH on the N64 for sooo long. Really great game. They should make them available on Wii Play or whatever it's called. I might have to buy a Wii if that's added on top of everything else already available. Plus.

I gotta say I've been playing this game for about a month now and its a lot more fun than I thought it would be. Sure, the game is a little shallow..the multiplayer is pretty bad IMO and there isn't too much unlockable content (though the two extra modes and secret trucks are still keeping me busy), but the gameplay is loads of fun and the game looks great graphically. I'd say its definitely worth a look if your searching for something to play on your wii.
