Lost Odyssey. CRYAN GAEMS WITH AVIATOR GLASSES

No Lost Odyssey thread?

Quote:

Lost Odyssey is one of three RPGs currently in development by Mistwalker for the Xbox 360. (For the others, see Blue Dragon and Cry On). The player takes control of Kaim, a man who has been sentenced to live for 1,000 years. Gameplay revolves around the many generations of which Kaim is a part of, his loves and losses and conflicts of a world nearing a "mystical industrial revolution". Odyssey's story is being penned by award winning Japanese novelist, Kiyoshi Shigematsu who is working directly with Hironobu Sakaguchi on the story sequences. Heading up the artistic demands of the title is famed Japanese comic artist, Takehiko Inoue, while famed composer Nobuo Uematsu has been recruited to create a more contemporary soundtrack. Mistwalker is developing the title, but code work has been outsourced to a studio name Feel Plus, a subsidiary of Microsoft created specifically to aid Mistwalker. Former Square employees at Microsoft are also involved.

September 13, 2006 - In this week's Famitsu magazine, Hironobu Sakaguchi conducted an interview with the magazine about Mistwalker's Lost Odyssey, which is scheduled for release sometime in 2007. In the interview, Sakaguchi reveals many interesting tidbits about the game and the demo, which will be playable at next week's Tokyo Game Show. To start off the interview, Sakaguchi revealed that in the end, the team decided that the game will be running at 30fps, which is no doubt a disappointment to a lot of 360 owners.

However, Sakaguchi did make mention that the models that are being used in rendered movies will look nearly the same as the real time models, so transitions between the two will be seamless for the most part. There are some interesting pieces of information about the system that's being used in the game. From Sakaguchi's explanation, it seems that when an enemy dies in battle, then the ones who haven't died yet will be able to extract their power and use it for themselves. In addition to that, Sakaguchi explains that the game has a hero that can never die, so there's no possibility of getting a 'Game Over' screen.

Mr. Sakaguchi also informed the magazine about what the other members of his team are doing concerning the game. Character designer Takahiro Inoue is checking all of the model renders, while Kiyoshi Shigematsu has been hard at work at finalizing all of the text in the game. In fact, the final text message that will be in the playable demo is written by Shigematsu himself. Speaking of demos, Sakaguchi also made mention of a playable demo that will be available along with Famitsu magazine, sometime in November. From the screenshots that Famitsu has in their interview, we can tell that Lost Odyssey is going to be a more traditional RPG than most people would initially think. One screenshot shows off your main character Gaim with his cohorts Sesu and Yansen in a Final Fantasy-esque battle, complete with menus. It seems that there isn't any special system being used in the game just yet, since all of the commands listed in the screenshot are very basic (Attack, Item, Magic, Run). However, Sakaguchi informed Famitsu in the interview that only the basic system will be available in the TGS demo, with anything special being left out.

To finish off the interview, Famitsu and Sakaguchi touched on Mistwalker's other games, such as Blue Dragon, Cry On (the Mistwalker and Cavia DS game) and Archaic Sealed Heat (A.S.H.). Sakaguchi promised that Blue Dragon will definitely be released within this year, while ASH is expected to see the light of day in the first half of next year. As for Cry On, Sakaguchi admitted that he doesn't know when the game will be released. For more information on all of Mistwalker's titles, keep an eye out for our coverage of the Tokyo Game Show.

- The final game will have even higher quality than the demo.
- The modeling for the movies are almost identical to the realtime models.
- Inoue (the character designer) is personally checking all the models.
- The demo's battles will just the most basic part of the system. The more indepth systems will be excluded.
- The character growth systems and so on will be in the final game only.
- Surviving enemies inherit the powers of those who are killed.
- Since the main character cannot die either there will not be a possibility of game over.
- The final game will use a physics engine.

Famitsu Lost Odyssey Interview

Hamamura(Famitsu Guy): It's been a long time, I heard you finally show us Lost Odyssey Demo, Right? Is it gone Gold?
Sakaguchi(Mistwalker): Yeah it's finalized at last. Let's start playing here.

- Sakaguchi start Lost Odyssey Demo. I can see its beautiful but really magnificent opening movie,
and it changed first ingame battle seamlessly.with Xbox360's power these gorgeous gameplay took our breath away.
His total playing time of this demo was almost 40min. He said it took you roughly 60min playing if first time.
We put some beautiful screens and some captions around pages. -

Hamamura : Wow..Now I can say the demo is finalized as you told.

Sakaguchi : Yup the demo is done.

Hamamura : I can be frankly to talk you this, but these goodness really approve the power of Next-Gen.

Sakaguchi : I've been to make these kind of things since early days of making plots.
For example, We couldn't put these crowds of soldiers in early developments.
But we made hard works and make its speed faster, then we can fill huge amounts of mobs in full of screen.

Hamamura : The first scene of opening reminds me LoTR movie. Massive amounts of mobs and soldiers were fighting like that.

Sakaguchi : Exactly,That's what I have been hoping to run real-time.

Hamamura : Yes, Actually I could understand if it was only a "Movie" though,
It didn't end as usual, but start gameplay seamlessly! I really thanks to Next-Gen to make these things possible.

Sakaguchi : It works and gets along somehow. But I think we can put more efforts in visuals for release day.
I can say it's only 80% done in visual aspects.

Hamamura : I also remembered that when you were SE employee, You showed us some of FF7 in development.
You still remember that??

Sakaguchi : Hey Hamamura. you changed your intonations in a Kansai accent. what's wrong with you (Laugh)

Hamamura : (Laugh) I'm sorry, yeah I know I'm really excited at this Demo.
Well,It was SNES era and we were very pleased it's visual quality. But we were really shocked at seeing FF7's pre-rendered CGIs
Cuz it showed us that we can play games in such a quality.

Sakaguchi : I can agree that.In LO we use almost same character model, texture's resolutions and artworks are almost same as well.
(I know they are different and) we can put lots of times in making "Movie" carefully, camera-works etc.
but we can make "real-times" looks almost same as "Movies", I think it's similar to Films.
We can check these 30 frames running and render them beautifully in real-time.

Hamamura : But, If you really want to make it Film-like, Only You should do was using real films.
But I can say there are lot of "feelings" from original artworks. It's really nice.

Sakaguchi : Kindly, Mr.Inoue did special efforts in these artworks, I want audiences also could "feel" his touch.
Actually, All of completed 3D model were checked by him. We send him 3D model datas which is rendered in several point of views.
He could correct some of them like "make this eyebrow little longer" then send us back. We had tons of these correction about details.
So, I believe Mr.Inoue is very satisfied as well.

Hamamura : Good thing that he's also satisfied.

Sakaguchi : And you can see that LO has low-color tones such as smokes, muddy water, dust etc.
I think you could feel that you were running in shallow muddy waters and jumping around.
Which is from Mr.Inoue's "Vagabond" manga, I wanted to make such atmospheres.
/* Vagabond : Inoue's VERY famous manga. one of his masterpieces.*/

Hamamura : I can admit it. I believe Next-Gen power really helps that, bringing originals to game as it is.

Sakaguchi : I believe Mr.Inoue's influence was really huge. Since hardware is Soo powerful,
we could make more eye-candy in monsters and visual effects. but we afraid them spoil Inoue's atmosphere.
Having been in Inoue's world, We could easily make a decision about LO's art directions.

Hamamura : Looks like its battle system is almost done as well.

Sakaguchi : No, this is pretty basic one. In this Demo version, we didn't implement two of key features,
character's "growing"(he didn't say LvLing) and "control-able".

Hamamura : Interesting. How it works?

Sakaguchi : Pardon?(Laugh)

Hamamura : c'mon

Sakaguchi : I can reveal only about "growing" though. Well there are some other guys who can't die like Kaim but will join your party.
In opposit there are "normal" people who can join your party as well.
When "normal" members are dying "abnormal" members have choice to merge their "ability" or not.

Hamamura : Ah, You told little about that at last interview we had.

Sakaguchi : Yeah.Who is able to "die" or not is depends on LO's game system, and it links to story.
I bet you will be WTF and hesitate to absorb some of their power.
It will knock your morals and make you dazzling. I wanna make LO's system like that.

Hamamura : It really sounds fun!

Sakaguchi : Yes, but I think LO will be really "unique" game,
main theme is "A man who can't die" and Kaim will be waking up even he is defeated.
I that terms there is no "game over" in this game. cuz you can't die.

Hamamura : It means never invincible but you "can't" die. In Demo, one soldier wondered and asked Kaim "why the hell you still alive?",
I got strong feeling at that scene.

Sakaguchi : That is main theme and make story driven. LO is so unique but It's gonna be new experience as well.

Hamamura : I noticed some fun factors, like you can kick a can and its movement is physically simulated.(Laugh)

Sakaguchi : Kicking is only you can do though.I think it's not proper way to use physics. much wastes of power.(Laugh)
I will implement physics into game systems as some secret or gimmicks or such.
But In Demo version, All you can do is Kicking a Can.

Hamamura : I also noticed that you can tear off posters. Kaim found it and gave a glance.

Sakaguchi : This kinds of fun is set as basic concept. LO has HUGE environments with LONG story.
So I wanted to put these "fun" much around to react your actions. But there are not enough in Demo.

Hamamura : I could find some amount of that though.

Sakaguchi : We will add them in final stage of development.
wanna put these useless fun factors, also wanna make NPC's extra stories as well.

Hamamura : When demo ended, there are short message appeared. What is this?

Sakaguchi : Mr.Shigematsu's work. yeah I know it's really short. The message tells you how the Demo ends.
it's not so loud but very meaningful. I like his choice of this word.

Hamamura : Yea. I was really moved.

Sakaguchi : You can check it out by playing Demo. You can see different massage in retail version.
It will be bit longer to tell about Story and its back-end.

Hamamura : I will. Speaking about Mr.Shigematsu, How much did he write up stories?

Sakaguchi : He is still working(Laugh) He has been busy on this since first day. He asked me "When is this finished???"(laugh)
I bet he already wrote up same amount of a novel. We implement it as Kaim's thousand year's dreams
and sometimes they appear as main scenario. there are tons of sad story.
Even most of them are shorter than normal "short story" it still makes me cry sometimes.

Hamamura : Everytime I can shed tears at his novels.

--

Hamamura : Let's go back to talk about Demo itself. How you willing to bring this Demo to customers?

Sakaguchi : You can play at TGS for sure. And we put Demo disc on Famitsu early November.
I think users can't play full of demo at TGS, So I hope them to check Famitsu and play everything.

Hamamura : I can't wait it as well. So when are you thinking final version will be released?

Sakaguchi : The release date should be 2007. I cant figure it though but we are trying to make it fast.
Since Demo is up. most of basic systems are already done.
So I need to work on map editing and some of event directions right now.

Hamamura : You're putting so much things to the last as you were.
Like last 20% of development takes same period of times of past 80%.

Sakaguchi : My staffs are already crying. They calls my corrections "Devil's Report" (Laugh)

Hamamura : (Laugh)Pls Do it more to make it better. Well Can I ask you about your other projects?

Sakaguchi : I'm pretty sure we can release Blue Dragon in this year. You can check it in TGS as well.
I can accept another interview about this.
If there are no problems in developing, I can say NDS game ASH will be out in 1st half of 2007.
Then Lost Odyssey and CryOn There are some of secret projects going on, but I can't tell atm.
Maybe We can talk about them near future.

Hamamura : Seems you are really gearing up so hard these days. Every your projects sounds fun!
I'm really looking forward them. Thanks.

Dammit, I know a friend witha 360, but they're region locked, so getting the demo off play asia or something is useless...

Still curious for this title. Its looking good so far.

No one's posted in this in over a year? Heh.

Some new gameplay videos and a new Japanese trailer. The game comes out tomorrow in Japan.

This is actually looking good. It's too bad that it will probably suffer in recognition simply due to the platform it's being released on.

Edit I take it back after this quote from IGN:

Quote:

In the six hours that I've played so far, Lost Odyssey has been a technical mess, with framerate problems in just about every cinema and on most maps, an animation system that looks like it was ported straight from a PS2 engine, and frequent, inconsistent load times accompanied by visual stuttering as new data loads in.

I was kinda looking forward to it when the trailer was first released at E3 04 or was it 05? Anyways, I dont know I kinda stopped caring about the game now for some reason, but I read that it's going to be a long game so I might as well try it when ever it comes out in North America. It's been a while since I've played a good RPG game.

Any one else not so impressed with the graphics of the game?

russ Dec 10, 2007 01:19 PM

Based on the trailer that is found on the Mass Effect LE disc, its graphical style is dated, to put it nicely. Looks like a PS2 game. Of course, things like story, gameplay, music, and such are more important than graphical style, so that is not a big deal. But then, I am doubting that they will deliver all of that. Based on the trailer I saw, it looks like the story is going to be a whiny emo-fest. "Omg I live long time, people I love die and stuff waaah." It looks like its going to be a 720p resolution version of a generic jap PS2 RPG from 2001.

Mass Effect and Lost Odyssey are both running on the same engine (Unreal Engine 3). However, the Lost Odyssey development team (FeelPlus) had mentioned that they were experiencing difficulty in receiving tech support from Epic Games, due to the language barrier.

I thought Blue Dragon looked fantastic, personally. Probably the first "real" next-gen looking RPG.

Sorry, but it seems you're the only one that thinks that. And considering the fact that famed FF composer; Nobuo Uematsu returns. And former Grease actor; Sheena Easton, which she does the theme for this game. This game's gonna be one heckuva cool adventure.

Because the people that have bought this game (in the Team Xbox site forums or the Xbox.com forums) pretty much like this game overal.

I said I wasn't impressed with the graphics, not that I dont like the game, the soundtrack, artwork etc. I am interested in playing the game, just not impressed with the graphics, doesn't look as great as some of the games being released right now.

Zeta26 Dec 20, 2007 01:30 PM

Well, even though this' a Hi-Def RPG. People wouldn't care about these "graphics". All they like nowadays is a great solid story. Which L.O. If all you cared for the visuals. Then this game like these would definitely not be for you. And besides, you do NOT buy a game simply by it's graphcis. But rather you buy them to enjoy the overal game's features + it's storyline.

So, what I said is true. Because afterall, it'd be a waste of your (or anybody)'s time who only cared for the in game visuals. Sure graphics may be nice and all. But really, that's not why gamers come to buy games like these. Is that they have great stories to tell, and great character development.

I don't care so much about the quality of the graphics, but I do care about the massive technical issues being reported with the game. Poor load times, stuttering framerates and sound, and other similar technical issues can completely ruin the experience of a game even if the story and characters are good (which judging from the Japanese reviews, they aren't all that great either.)

jb1234 Dec 20, 2007 07:10 PM

Eh. The technical issues don't sound any worse than Mass Effect (which were perfectly tolerable). If anything, I had bigger issues with the massive screen tearing Blue Dragon suffered from...

trackjacket Dec 20, 2007 07:25 PM

You know, I never noticed any screen-tearing in Blue Dragon. Although, I play about 4 feet away from a 20 inch SDTV, so my ability to discern when screen-tearing is present might be a bit off.

Mass Effect has FAR more Technical issues than Blue Dragon.

There is a small review up of LO by duckroll on Neogaf and the game seems to be good aside from the shitty plot.

Quote:

Beat the game, 62 hours. Pretty solid game, too bad about the story.

Story: C- (main story), A+ (A Thousand Years of Dreams)
Gameplay: A
Design/Direction: A+
Entertainment Value: B+

Comments on the story: It's pretty funny if you expect an epic fantasy RPG type story, filled with plot twists and many side characters like a FF game, since the game is nothing like that. Instead the main story is like a high budget live-action Disney movie, toned down for the whole family, with no shades of grey and only black and white characters, tons of focus on themes of LOVE and HOPE and the HUMAN SPIRIT, and lots of random comedy and slapstick characterization and events. It probably has the worst villain I've seen in any RPG in the past 5 years, period. He's so bad, he's GREAT. The ultimate cheesed up B-actor villain that hams it up with his trusty LOOKING EVIL 101 manual. The cutscenes are mostly funny, with some being pretty cringe-worthy, but overall really entertaining... just not in the usual JRPG way.

Comments on the gameplay and design: LO is probably the best looking next-gen JRPG out at the moment. Everything from the environments to the characters and monsters look really detailed and awesome. The designs rock, and they animate really well too. It's pretty awesome to actually see so much effort put into the design and concept of the entire world and the various beasts and machines. The dungeon design is fantastic as well, with great ideas and lots of fun puzzles and gimmicks in each dungeon. The battle system is well thought out, with really useful equipment, spells and skills. The game balance is pretty spot on and the game is never too hard, but always kinda challenging until you reach endgame and choose to totally abuse the hell out of the the skill system.

Overall: I had lots of fun and the game was packed with content. The gameplay was really good, and even the slowdowns and loadings didn't really get in the way of the fun. It's just rather disappointing that the main story ended up being such a LULZ instead of something truly memoriable and well written. If only the main story was a fraction of the Thousand Years of Dreams in quality, it would have blown most JRPGs out of the water, unfortunately they're as different as night from day. I'll recommend anyone getting the game to check out ALL the short stories, because they're really solid stuff. Great writing and plotting, and a far cry from the Disney family movie that the main story is.
I figured as much when I heard Sakagchi was writting the main plot insead of Shigetsu.

Iwata Feb 16, 2008 05:13 AM

So the game has been released here in the states. Picked it up on wednesday, but only till now have i had time to put in a serious session and i have to say it's probably one of the best RPG's in recent years and much better then Blue Dragon.

Also the "A Thousand Years of Dreams" segments are amazing. So engaging yet sad and i've become addicted to finding em. The story while slow to pick up isn't all that bad( barring the horrible FFVIII tendencys of Kaim crying ).

So what does everyone think of it?

Frozen Memories Feb 16, 2008 03:29 PM

I just picked it up as well. I'll probably try it out today. I heard it was pretty good and the Dream segments pretty much make the story awesome.

guyinrubbersuit Feb 16, 2008 07:26 PM

I don't have much interest in this game. I'm sort of curious about the storyline but the gameplay is something I don't want to sit through. Plus the characters bother me stylistically, especially the male lead they parade around. He either has an extremely long torso or very short arms. I really don't feel like playing a two generation ago RPG with prettier graphics.

Slayer X Feb 16, 2008 07:52 PM

I went in thinking that I was going to hate Lost Odyssey. I've come to dislike traditional turn based RPGs over the last few years. DQ8 for example, I wish I could like, but I just can't quite for some reason.

The thing that LO does that I like is that they don't have 10,000 systems that you have to manage. You just job link, equip 2 pieces of stuff and then go on and kill shit. Sure there's the ring customization, but all you do for that is collect stuff and then choose what you want from a menue, nothing that technical.

The other thing that it does is it has a good gameplay to cinematic ratio. I like cinematics, and while I also liked FFXII, you had to do WAAAAAY too much just to get to the next bit of plot development. In this the story keeps rolling it seems.

Now don't get me wrong. This is far from the greatest RPG of all time, however I do feel that it is the best RPG of this generation. (just edges Eternal Sonata out by having more mature themes)

Side note: It's nice to see a game where Nomura's art style really shows. Kaim TOTALLY reminds me of his sketches of characters like he made for 9 and earlier. So cool.

Frozen Memories Feb 16, 2008 11:55 PM

Hmmm, I played about 5 hours' worth. I don't know if that's enough for a solid opinion (in fact, I know it's not), but, so far I'm really enjoying it. I really like those "dream sequences" Kaim (Kiam? I hate spelling) goes into. Lots of reading, sure, but very interesting reading at that.

I've been hearing similar things from people I know. I might check it out by renting it, after I check everything else. If anything this will be on the backburner and I purchase when I have some money burning a hole in my pocket and I've bought the games I already want.

russ Feb 17, 2008 12:42 AM

It isn't a bad game if you can get past all of the crying. And there is a lot of crying. I am fairly early on in disc two and my party consists of two physical attackers and three mages, which really bothers me. I don't really need to have two black mages and a white mage. I would really be ok with one of each.

Game is fairly fun and the dreams are all pretty well written. The music has ranged from unnoticed to really good. So far I really only have one character who isn't weepy, but he is awesome enough to more or less make up for all the crying. Graphically, it looks better than I was expecting, though I wish that the designers would have thought to give Kaim a little shampoo. I have noticed some minor framerate issues, but nothing to get worked up over just yet. The dungeons seem to be a comfortable length, though the town/non-dungeon sequences tend to drag a little bit, which may be the result of reading several dreams during your "in between dungeons" period. I am sure that it is simply because have missed them, but there have been a distinct lack of weapon upgrades throughout the game. As I mentioned before, I am early in disc 2 and I have upgraded Kaim's weapon once, Jansen's once, and there have literally been no other weapon upgrades. While I am sure that this is mostly my own fault for not finding weapons, but they really shouldn't make it this hard to find them.

All in all, I have not regretted my purchase yet. Maybe whenever the inevitable plot twist happens, and we learn that Kaim is the seemingly impossible lovechild of Squall and Keanu Reeves, I will feel differently.

Slayer X Feb 17, 2008 11:51 AM

Yeah, it's definately not an OMFG kind of game to get worked up about, however it is a solid JRPG. My take on the music is similar to Russ's. Though the battle theme of the third boss (the worm) was pretty cool.

While I still wish the stories were just done in small flashback vignettes, at least the wiring is done by a famous Japanese writer and a very compitent Japanese translator. If it wern't for thoes two things the written format for the stories would have been a complete throw away.

Bigblah Feb 17, 2008 12:15 PM

A tip for all those not yet on disc 3: Make sure you try to keep all your characters at roughly the same level, since you will be utilizing everyone in separate parties soon. (And yes, you'll get pure mage parties!)

russ Feb 17, 2008 02:33 PM

So basically you are saying that once I hit the expected party level (as in the people in the party are gaining very little experience in each fight) in each dungeon, I should swap in my lesser used folks and run around until they stop getting a full level per fight. Thanks for the tip, that should be an easy thing to do along the way that will save some headaches down the line. Also full mage parties are lame. Where are my fighters in this game, they are missing.

Cetra Feb 17, 2008 03:07 PM

The only issue I'm having with the game is the battle system is SO DAMN SLOW and it's mostly because they did a horrible job optimizing battle animations to a reasonable level.

SailorDaravon Feb 17, 2008 10:58 PM

The slight framerate hitches when it's loading battles, and particuarly in cinematics is really distracting. At first I thought my 360 was having problems or something, but I'm seeing tons of other people mention it, and even looked at some footage online, same thing.

Russ, I'm still on the first disc and I've gotten 3 upgrades for Kaim/Seth, and two for Jansen >_>

Slayer X Feb 18, 2008 01:16 AM

Yeah, spme of the cutscenes can take up to a minute to load.

One thing that I do keep getting with this game are constant DREs. Especially when I don't have my external fan on. I play a lot of Vegas (and for longer sits) and I don't have this problem with it.

So is it just touchy coding or a bad disc? (the condition is emaculate)

Bigblah Feb 18, 2008 01:47 AM

I've never had a disc error with this game. BD and LO both ran pretty solid, framerate slowdown notwithstanding.

I recommend reading a guide for this game (if you can read some Japanese, ロストオデッセイまとめwiki is a great resource) since there are plenty of good items -- particularly accessories -- that are easily missable. Heck, simply entering a map from the wrong direction at a particular time can put some subquests out of your reach until the last disc.

El Ray Fernando Feb 18, 2008 10:55 AM

Is this better than FFXII? I played it and just gave up about 70% of the way through; it was simply a pain to play. Generally I've heard its more old school, which is what I like especially in the ATB department.

I want to play this with a passion but don't want to waste 20-40 hours if its going to epically suck donkey schlong like FFXII.

Slayer X Feb 18, 2008 11:15 AM

I don't know if it's better. I don't think it can match XII's presentation, however it's still solid. And it's a mature themed JRPG which makes it actually kind of unique in some sense.

My only problem with XII was the pacing. There was WAAAAAAAAAAY too much gameplay inbetween story developments where it felt like nothing was ever getting solved at times. But hey to each their own. I know that some out there hate cinematics so XII would be good for them.

For me I enjoyed Xenosaga and MGS's 30minute + cinematics so XII had poor pacing for me.

Personally i think it is better then FFXII in every possible aspect. Like you, i grew tired of FFXII, but i did manage to push myself through to the end and doing so left an even sourer taste in my mouth.

With Lost Odyssey, i'm midway through the second disc and i'm still captivated and hooked. Something I haven't been able to say about any RPG since Suikoden V.

Are you having any problems with any other games? When I'm talking about hitching, I'm talking fraction of a second stuff, and I haven't had anything take longer than maybe 10 seconds to load.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Feb 19, 2008 06:17 AM

The only way this thing'll have 60 second loads is if you've got an issue somewhere along the line. None of the cinematics, in game or otherwise, have taken a full minute. I can see so far as 15 seconds, but that's about pushing it. I'll time it next time I play.

The frame rate is abysmal whenever it's got to render more than a single character at a time though, hooooooooooooly shit. It's especially jarring during those camera cuts.

DREs plus extremely long loads sounds like either your disc or your 360 is shitting it's pants.

Slayer X Feb 19, 2008 06:18 AM

R6: Vegas has been freezing a lot lately too (has been for many of my friends too) but that's about it.

@Skills
I'm not sure that it's my 360 because while I've gotten an increase of R6: Vegas DREs so have my friends lately too. So I think it's just something with that game and them messing with the servers for R6: Vegas 2. As for LO, I'm thinking it's a disc issue.

Everytime I go to play the game for the first time of a day I seem to always get DREs about an hour in. Then if I restart the game no matter how long I play at this point it doesn't seem to DRE again. Or at least not until another day.

SailorDaravon Feb 19, 2008 11:48 PM

Kyndig/Godhand (forget what his tag is here) told me tonight he's had the game freeze on him several times now, also reporting no other problems with any other games. I'm inclined to say it's the system starting to die, and LO is more taxing on it than other games might be. With the 360 hardware it's hard to say, have you tried clearing your cache? I almost expect my 360 to be dead every time I turn it on despite having no problems with it.

Cetra Feb 20, 2008 02:19 AM

Yeah sounds exactly like what my system starting doing right before the disc drive gave out. If you are lucky enough to avoid a RRoD then you still have this damn problem to worry about.

Dark Nation Mar 3, 2008 12:33 AM

So I picked up this game a few days ago, its pretty fun so far. The game reminds me
of Shadow Hearts and Final Fantasy VIII, and seemed to toss in Metal Gear Solid 3's camera system.

Any spoiler-free tips I should know? I just got to the Sea past the Grand Staff construction site (Disc 1).

My tip?

Hope you like mages. xp

Seriously, though? Just keep trying to learn skills. But, hey, that's kinda obvious.

~
I'm in Disc 2... having 2 1/2 fighters and 3 1/2 mages suck. XD And I know one of the members I'll get soon is a mage too (damn that trailer in the game...). Man... it gets kinda hard to keep them alive...

I'm also aimlessly wandering around a mansion that is annoying as hell! Whee!

I still really like the game though... As for load times, I don't think it's ever gone beyond ten seconds. Then again, I just got my 360, soooo... um, yeah...

russ Mar 3, 2008 11:02 AM

Don't worry, later on you get a terrible, frail fighter who you will only use when you absolutely have no choice, and a really tough, but not very strong fighter who you will keep in the party simply because he has some excellent passive skills. So you'll be rolling with your two fighters, your passive skill guy, and your two mages of choice.

Frozen Memories Mar 3, 2008 05:10 PM

ALRIGHT! Just what I always wanted! Well, guess it's better than more full-blown mages. xp

Forsety Mar 4, 2008 12:05 AM

Why does everyone pretend they can't say who joins when they are all listed right in the manual? There is no spoilers in saying their names. :(

Sed is pretty decent though really for a mortal, simply cause at least he gets that 3 accessory skill so you can prep him up at least acceptably for the bosses.

He's got double item, potion boosting, and auto barrier/shield too so basically when you're done leeching skills you'll want to keep him not just for the double sp/exp/loot/etc skills but also because compared to the other mortals endgame, at least he doesn't blow over like a leaf in the wind. (high HP and all too)

It's lol looking at the mortal mages with their 2k HP compared to Kaim and Seth's 9999 and everyone elses 5~7k+.

Frozen Memories Mar 4, 2008 12:54 AM

Oh, I didn't even look at the manual. Silly book and ruining the game, ha ha ha...

I'm personally too lazy to look at the book, sooo, about Sed...

Spoiler:
Is he exactly human? Or some kinda beat thingie? In Seth's dream he sounded like he was a beast of some sort.

El Ray Fernando Mar 4, 2008 11:20 AM

Alot of you have probably had enough time to complete the game by now; anobody want to share their overall opinion and/or conclusions??

I can't buy it for another 2 weeks until I've handed in my assignments so its good to get a heads up, still need to complete Mass Effect first.

Living Legend Mar 5, 2008 07:16 AM

I absolutely love the game, and I am by no means a huge RPG fan. I've played a few here and there, but this game had me addicted from the beginning.

Some character models I disliked, especially some of the characters that join your party really boggled my eyes on what details they added.

Every female has HUGE breasts which are pretty much uncovered. One character in particular, you can see veins popping out and, I am by no means against breasts, but C'MON!

I just started disc four, and I'm pretty much lost, but i'll figure it out sooner or later. I love the game, like the main story, I like the characters stories, and overall it's the most fun I have had with and RPG since Tales of Symphonia.

Uh, you are thinking about Aneira. Aneira was the winged person/creature who rescued Seth from the cave. Sed is related to Seth in a different way. I have had to explain that to multiple people so it makes me think that I am the only one who actually read and comprehended the Seth dreams.

Also, who reads the manual? Not me. I am just trying to be nice and not spoil the game for anyone, even though it is painfully obvious about the frail, weak fighter, manual or not.

As for the character designs/models, yes, the veins in that chick's chest are a bit much. And does Tolten really need to be wearing gold, jewel encrusted armor? If I am about to go into battle, I am going for something a little more utilitarian. And good lord, why has Kaim not washed his hair in the 1000 years he has been alive? Jansen has clean hair. Ming has clean hair. Someone get this guy a bottle of shampoo stat. I think I have mentioned that once before.

Frozen Memories Mar 5, 2008 05:02 PM

Spoiler:
Oh. I just got confused because she said "Sed..." right before cutting into the dream, making me think that Sed was just a nickname for the winged dude.

Thanks for clearing that up.

russ Apr 25, 2008 03:35 PM

Ok, this sounds like a pretty massive waste of 200 MS points. One dream and a ring? The game is easy enough that one ring won't make a difference, and anyone who cares will just wait until a youtube of the dream comes out so they can read it once and go on about their business, with their purse still flush with MS points.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Apr 25, 2008 07:17 PM

Would have bought it if it included a item that tells you how many treasures are left on each screen, or something.

There's extra achievements too, for it. But the DLC that unlocks these is no where to be found. Can't find any solid info on it for timing or anything.
