Kanon 2006 (Kyoto Animation, 24 episodes)
Studio: Kyoto Animation. That's it, this introduction is over. Prepare to slobber all over it like rabid fanboys. The rest of this post is just trivial information. So, Kanon is originally a visual novel game produced by VisualArt's/KEY, which predates AIR (and KyoAni made a decidedly successful series out of that one too). There's an earlier 2002 13-episode series produced by TOEI, so this one's an expanded remake which should please fans who feel that the original series was too compacted or not faithful to the storyline. Sharp viewers would have noticed this little cameo in one of the AIR episodes: http://content.imagesocket.com/images/Kanon_1380.jpg As for the story, we follow a Yuuichi Aizawa as he returns to his aunt's home after having left 7 years ago. He also doesn't remember much of what happened back then, and as he reunites with his cousin Nayuki and an entire army of girls with big eyes from his school, he slowly regains various memories which leads to DRAMA The cast remain virtually the same as the original TOEI series, except for our protagonist Yuuichi; Tomokazu Sugita now voices him, and for those who watched Haruhi, he's the voice of Kyon. In fact Yuuichi's new character design resembles Kyon. Somewhat. Pictures to follow. But first, here are some clips from the Prelude DVD released today (August 25): Creditless OP (wmv) Creditless ED (wmv) (The OP and ED songs this time come from the game itself; Last regrets and Kaze no Tadoritsuku Basho respectively.) Screenshots: http://content.imagesocket.com/images/kanon2c36.jpg Yuuichi's new manly look. http://content.imagesocket.com/images/kanon16d5.jpg Nayuki. http://content.imagesocket.com/images/kanon446a.jpg Ayu! http://content.imagesocket.com/images/kanon3011.jpg Kyoto Animation may I have your babies |
Looks very Air-ish now. It's a good thing. I'm not too informed about Kanon, but is it gonna have as much drama as AIR?
|
Really looks AIR-ish. I LOVE IT.
I haven't watch anything from the previous Kanon though. Do you think I should watch the original before watching this? |
Considering it's 24 episodes, yes, it'll have TWICE the drama.
I'll upload the other 4 promotion clips in the Prelude DVD. And no, there's no need to watch the original Kanon. This is a remake of the entire series. |
the 13 episode one that i saw back in the day was damn good (made me cry actually) so im really looking forward to this remake *waits for october*
|
same. However I believe when i got the first episode (Elite Fansubs anyone? )
I stopped there and a year later, i finished it. Definately a good story. Good thing we'll see some Ayu-goodness. The good thing is, Yuuichi doesn't look all girlish and shit. |
Promotion clips up:
Promotion Clip 01 Promotion Clip 02 Promotion Clip 03 Promotion Clip 04 You can skip the 2nd clip since it's just a shorter version of clip 3. If you want to hear what the character voices will be like (it's all the same cast anyway except for one -- Yuuichi, who not only resembles Kyon from Haruhi, but is now voiced by the same VA as well!), get the 4th clip. (it's also hilarious due to the rap segment from the original ED song) |
Thanks for the clips, Bigblah.
I've yet to finish watching Air, even though it sitting on my hard drive upstairs, I only managed to watch 3-4 episodes and that was many months ago. After listening to the opening and ending music in your posted video files, is there by any chance you have those in any audio format? |
Air was excellent, so I'll most likely keep tabs on this series as well (hay it starts airing on my birthday).
As great as the story in air was, though, I always felt kinda weird looking at those hueg eyes. .__. Can't sleep big-eye girls will kill me. |
Well today's the day. Anyone found any releases of episode 1 yet?
|
You could always, like, check tokyotosho every so often.
Personally, I'd be somewhat wary of any subs coming out in so quick a time anyway. Aside from translation, they have to go through the bother of typesetting/timing the OP/ED, which is assuredly a time-consuming activity (unless they skip it entirely). |
I never saw Kanon anime but i played the game 50% with a guide 50% with my poor-to-decent japanese, its one of those renai games that you really play just for the story (and im serious about this!) so its really good news, hope that the torrents (or direct download, you generous people?) will be releases soon.

*yaay*
First speedy release is done by [SS-Eclipse] Kanon - 01 MKV version (174.74MB) http://www.point-blank.cc:16384/allo...5D.mkv.torrent XviD version (175.62MB) http://www.point-blank.cc:16384/allo...5D.avi.torrent |
I'll let it slide since it's the first torrent link in here, but next time, please post it only after you've watched the episode so you can at least voice your thoughts.
I've already watched the raw, and while nothing much happens in the first episode, Kyoto Animation does not disappoint with the animation. They just keep getting better -- compare it with AIR and you'll see the rise in quality since then. And the scene where Ayu spins around trying to see the wings on her back was so brilliantly executed. Though I have a feeling they've cut short a scene or two, particularly that closeup of Nayuki at the very beginning. |
hmm. This sure brings up good times back in 2001 =]. the first episode's one scene was supposed to be the first few mins but it's all good. Not bad from KA. Be looking forward to the next episodes.

[a.f.k.] Kanon - 01.avi (175 MB)
Oh my God this series is cute. I love the little changes in character design, and Tomokazu Sugita voicing Yuuichi is fabulous. Excellent animation quality, nothing that short of what's expected of KyoAni. I never really finished the original series (I left off the last episode or so) so I'm looking forward to the rest of this version. Uguu~ |

Anyway, after watching it... although nothing much happended to the actual story just character introduction... It was rather well done, but the music still the old-game music with no changes <_< Heh the story will pick up on the next eps |
I really enjoyed how KyoAni chose to follow the game pretty closely. Hearing the same music from the game while watching made it seem more 'authentic' (and nostalgic!). There were changes of course.
Outside of Nayuki and Ayu, none of the other characters made any apperances during Yuuichi's first day. I enjoyed it (especially the exchange between Kaori and Jun) for the most part. I didn't really like the appearance of Sayuri and Mai, though. In the game, Yuuichi's (and therefore, the player's) first impression of Mai is that she's sort of cold and strange. I got a different image here (not that its a bad thing, but). Nayuki's animal loving side isn't introduced until a little later in the game, but I liked how they did it here. It fits here more than it did in the game. I'm glad the cast is pretty much the same. Somehow, this Ayu seems cuter than the Ayu in the previous Kanon. I don't remember how Nayuki's acting was in the last Kanon, but Kouda Mariko's acting is really good. In the game, Nayuki is described as having a very laid back, sleepy tone to her voice, and I think Kouda does that very well. Sugita does a great job too, but I hear too much of Kyon. Also, this goes without saying, but KyoAni made this look fuckin' awesome. They just continue to impress me with every new thing they release. |
The Yuuichi in this remake sounds a whole lot better than the last. Having watched the past one, I'll look into this. And with 24 episodes, I hope they will further elaborate on the story and whatnots, seeing as the past one was too short.
|
I avoided AIR because I dislike the type of character design that's somewhat typical of H/Ran'ai games. However, I just finished the first episode of Kanon and I have to say that I am completely sold, and going back to check out AIR. Ayu just make the whole thing too cute to pass on. Also, I personally don't think Yuuichi resembling Kyon is such a bad thing. >.>
|
Watched the first one today. Very nostalgic. I think i was only 14 or 15 yrs old when i saw the original. Yuuichi looks more mature in kyoto's version. The music is very laid back and relaxing. Now we see Yuuichi in the next episode. Looks like his uniform is more brighter than ever compared to the original. Nothing much really happened in this episode. Now i see why its 24 episodes.

SS & Eclipse released Ep. 2 (yay for MKVs!). Much fun to be had!
I'm enjoying the changes that KyoAni are making to the series. Of course, many of these changes are introducing little extras that weren't introduced until later in the game, but they're doing a good job of bringing them in. A big change, I think, is the fact that the school is brought to life. Instead of just being one or two hallways and a classroom like other shows, it's depicted as this massive structure, rife with things waiting to be explored. Nice touch. More Mai and Sayuri in this episode. I suppose it's to make Mai even more mysterious than she is. I guess that's nice; I just hope they include the scene where Mai, Sayuri and Yuuichi are eating lunch for the first time (but I doubt it). Ayu, Yuuichi, and Shiori scene. Pretty much the same in all three versions (game, Toei, KyoAni). Last, but certainly not least, this episode also introduced my favorite character: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/...p-14543581.png |

For me, it's interesting to watch a scene and remember watching the very same scene 4 years ago, and noticing the little differences, such as a new, open stairway replacing the old, generic enclosed one, or Ayu pulling Yuuichi into a restaurant instead of a convenience store. Or Makoto skulking about in a blanket instead of sneaking up on Yuuichi in a box. And, not that it's important, I am a bit disappointed a.f.k. didn't sub Ayu's uguu~s. |
a.f.k.'s episode 02
I'm with a.f.k. all the way, but I wonder how they managed to misspell Kaori's family name as Misaki instead of Misaka for two episodes straight =/ Also, here is an astute observation! http://content.imagesocket.com/images/kanoncomp66a.jpg |

Summonmaster, it is indeed the other way around, there are no guns and lasers in the Kanon game or anime :( Maybe in Kanon: Fumoffu, which KyoAni will commence production on after they're done with Haruhi season 5. |
|
Okay, I'm liking this so far for some strange reason despite the absence of any girls with guns or sleeping Nayuki beatdown action. Ayu sealed the deal really, since she's just the cutest character I've seen for a while, especially when she in the first episode when Yuuichi pointed out her wings and she tried to look at them ^_^. I wonder how he's going to juggle all these girls that are popping up?

Now that's (or would be, if you were joking) a meaty development, and I'm going to guess that they're just going to show it happening without any action whatsoever, and in the form of brief flashes. I just don't see this turning into anything like Spoiler:
Where's Episode 3 >=(? I need more girl juggling. |

Too large eyes... Scary. They look like aliens. Anyhow is this one of these series that are cute but nothing happens just some big eyed girls crying for no apparent reason/bad reasos or overly cliqueshed resons.
If not I may take a glance at the series. EDIT: To much WOW. |
The largest eye-to-face ratio is in Di Gi Charat, okay
And here you have Yuuichi's relatively normal face to look at. |
Hey it's better than the 2002 animation. At least their chins are de-Lenoized.
|
Kinda jaded with almost everything at the moment, this is series is pretty much the only thing that I just started watching in a while.
I am wondering about the story, currently on episode 9. The original game is a branched game with multiplied ending, correct? So does that mean the 2002 version put in story which makes up the core of the game, but also pick and choose specific path for different characters? Is the 2006 version following the same path? |
The 2002 version focuses on one character at a time, and when their arc is finished they move on to the next one while the rest just fade into the background. For 2006, the stories are much more interweaved, though they finished Makoto's arc early this time.
This is the best series of the season, by the way. The brilliant handling of Makoto's arc, plus the just-aired episode 12 with Mai/Yuuichi's ballroom dance scene, not to mention all the minute details KyoAni is famous for... http://content.imagesocket.com/images/bop650.gif <3 |
Did anyone see the latest episode?
Spoiler:
I can't wait for the following episodes. |
Yeah, it looked somewhat painful. Bad things happen to good people, eh?
|
The final episode is coming in a few days, I wonder how they're gonna adapt the endings.
|
I was able to catch up to episode 23 last week.
Spoiler:
In any case,Kyoto's version of Kanon was executed pretty well (2 thumbs up for Mai's story)to the very end. That being said, the raw for 24 is out. Did anyone take the hit and watch the episode without the sub? |
Where did you manage to get the raw from chato?
(btw, you might want to add spoiler inserts to some of your text) Spoiler:
|
Done :).
The raw for the final episode - http://bt.saiyaman.info/download.php...AW.avi.torrent It'll probably take you to the homepage but it's stilll there. Didn't know Saiyman was all into Kanon til recently ;p. EDIT: Spoiler:
edit 2 : The last episode came out earlier by SS-Eclipse. Downloading now. http://torrents.no-sekai.de/eclipse/...5d.avi.torrent Just finished watching it. Nice ending. Alot better than the other kanon anime. Now it's time for some Clannad!. |
Great ending that ties all the girl's endings together. Very nice.
BRING ON CLANNAD!! |
Not entirely sure but I think 'Lucky ☆ Star' is KyoAni's next series they're releasing, which I think will commence sometime in April? I think it was the 8th, according to Wikipedia.
Clannad is not due until sometime in October (again, according to Wikipedia). A side note that Hirano Aya will be voicing the female protagonist in Lucky ☆ Star. Back to Kanon: a well done ending, although Spoiler:

That was one of the best finalizing happy endings that I've seen and hoped for in an anime in a long time. Wonderful wonderful show. Definitely gonna rate this show a 10 on my anidb list. =)
|
Thoroughly enjoyed this show, haven't watched the original version of Kanon yet (have already downloaded it ready for viewing) but I can that the ending came as quite the happy ending.
Kyoto Animation has made its way into my grade A category of anime to watch. |
No no, Nayuki, not time to sleep just yet!
