Of course they're remaking Thundercats. They're going to remake everything. Someone once said something about entertainment these days being like hospital food. We eat up the same old crap because that's all they're offering.

However, for some bizarre reason, I find Teen Titans kind of clever, and I never loved Thundercats all that much anyway, so I could enjoy this remake. Tongue-in-cheek is alright with me, most days.

I never really cared much for Thundercats anyway, so I have no clue which one Snarf is or any of the other details. This just sounds horrendous though. Teen Titans is alright, but anything else trying to use that Americanized anime style is pretty miserable.

If they wanted a rock band cartoon they should have brought out an updated version of Jem. Honestly, would anyone care if they butchered Jem? It's already totally outrageous, so giving it a crappy anime style could only improve it!

You know, I don't even remember ever seeing lunatics takes off. The reason something become popular its because it actually brought something unique and relavent to the table, not just rehash of old licences in new dresses. Personally, I think this is rather insulting to the mental conpacity of the viewer now a days, and not even a anime spin is going to save this one.

For those wondering, Snarf is literally comic relief. He's basically chubby, short, cute, with an annoying voice. The closest thing he got to a main role is one episode where he borrowed the power that lets Mumm-Ra leave his lair, and kicked Mumm-Ra's ass. Then he lost it, and never had anything close to a main role again.

As an FYI, I watched this show when it was being played on Toonami from Cartoon Network. And this is like REALLY early Toonami. Like back when the mascot was a freaking satellite with a face.

That, and I have a great memory for unimportant shit. Which is why I could probably recite at least a few of the major plot points from memory. ._.

What's funny about this is that the original Thundercats was produced by mostly Japanese staff in American cartoon style, and now it's American staff producing the remake in anime style.

I'm going to start hitting on some of you. Some of you sound old.

I bet that at some point during our childhood some cartoon our parents watched as remade/re-imagined and then they were like "zomg they totally ruined it" and meanwhile we heartily enjoyed it. I'm too lazy to think of what it is but it happened. I'm sure of it.

Much like Masters Of The Universe or Silverhawks, Thundercats is best left as 80s pastiche. Watching it now is akin to sticking a tire iron through your stomache and pulling out your entrails - the show is terrible and badly written. It's campy - if you're into that - but its really just ... bad.

Yes, it's sad to see something that was a milestone of my childhood twisted into an even worse thing than it is now - but it is by no means even remotely possible to compare whats happening to Thundercats to what happened to Looney Tunes. To even suggest an inkling of an idea of a possibility of a chance of a thought that they're on the same level is ludicrous as it is insulting. I swear to God the internet goes out of it's way to insult me sometimes.

It's like they didn't have enough fun raping my childhood when they remade the transformers like 6 times and GI-Joe like 4 times.. Now they have complete butcher the ThunderCats...

Haven't they learned that they're not going to accomplish anything by recycling the old shows?

Makes me wonder how long before an american Dragon Ball Z series gets made to carry on the hype, whatever may be left of it.

I could never really get into Thundercats as it reminded me of a glammed up version of Gi-Joe.

This makes me really wonder if Hollywood really is out of good ideas, to have to rehash classic stuff, and usually make it worse in the process.

I can't think of any shows from the '80s that were remakes of older shows. They were all just repeated. Now though since no one seems to be capable of coming up with anything original*, a lot of the old-old shows are being remade. Tom & Jerry, Scooby, Thomas the Tank Engine & now we also have CG Winnie the Pooh.

* It's probably not just originality that's the problem. I'm sure there's something even in Thundercats that some git'd complain about so it needs to be more suitable for today's parents.

Those of us old enough to remember - cartoon censorship was at its height in the late 80s and early 90s, thanks to family watchdog groups. It's the reason The Real Ghostbusters was pulled from the air.

Yeah, TMNT was called Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles over here because people were worried about the ninja connotations.

I believe certain things within martial arts are illegal in the UK. I know that nunchucks are VERY illegal (so I wonder how they got Mikey on the show, over there), and UK censors tend to edit out headbutting and kicking people when they're down.

Well they used to anyway, these days we have some of the most liberal censors in the world.

If memory serves, they left his nunchucks in. they were editted out of Soul Blade but because of the German censors, not ours. In fact, I'm not even sure if nunchucks are illegal here. The instructor owned a pair when I took up ninjitsu briefly at uni.

But Beast Wars was awesome :(

Aside from that, I don't really have any problem when old shows get 'updated.' It's not like the original show has suddenly gotten worse because of the new shows.

This is the stupidest thing to be done with the characters since they had a crossover with Superman.

Truer words were never spoken. Outside of the Paul Dini Batman/Superman cartoons, Beast Wars was probably the best cartoon of the mid-to-late 90s.

There's a difference between remaking a show and making a new series of it. From what little I know of that Japanese transformers cartoon (the one where Optimus Prime was a firetruck or something), THAT was a remake. Take the old premise and characters, change them around, pretend things happened differently. Transformers series' like Beast Wars were not remakes. Beast Wars didn't pretend the original series never happened and reinvent all the old characters. It was a new storyline with (mostly) new characters that tried to tie in with the original, not replace it.

Never did watch Thundercats, so I have no strong feelings about this news. But the new show premise does sound retarded as hell. If you're going to remake something, at least don't make it SUCK.

Though maybe there's worse ways to remake a show.

I can think of, at least, Alvin and the Chipmunks. So there. :ninja:

They should stop applying their crappy knock-off faux-anime style to various shows. It just doesn't work. The Japanese do it better, and a smart audience already knows that. I loved Thundercats as a child and even after viewing all the episodes again last year, the show still holds up. It's campy and corny in places, but it knows that. It's a formulaic show in terms of structure (they almost always laugh at something at the end, for example) that still manages to have great characters, battles and machines. I love the incidental music they use too. It reminds me a little of the truly high-quality cartoons of the time like The Mysterious Cities of Gold and Ulysses 31, which both had great design, music and flowing animation. It's a shame that with the advent of the Lunatacs, the general quality of the episodes and plots declined. Lion-o could do ANYTHING with his sword, and save the day within 30-seconds. It became repetitive and boring.

To remake it now with a modern "edgy" style would rip out the soul of the original version. Wolf had a vision for what the Thundercats should be, and I very much doubt that whatever WB comes up with will be in keeping with that vision.

I don't really watch Thundercats that much but this new version of it really makes a classic looks damn terrible. Why messed up a classic? Why not just make a good upgrade just like TMNT instead? Why do they really have to spoil kids with its new childish plot anyway? But, I'm still gonna watch it too see how ridiculous anyway :o

Actually, I believe this remake will be tons worse then Powerpuff Girls Z.

Even though the description of this new Thundercats show seems very bad, I'm sure all of you will check it out.

But think of the good things that come out of this remake!
