Art and Request

So I am back from California, and Lo, magipoka's soundtrack is out! So I thought I'd get started on that composition tutorial that I have been thinking about for the Clone Army. Does that even make sense?

Anyway, I thought it might be about time to start a request/art thread again, although I want for focus on "request" this time.

I take several type of requests

1. Fan Arts/Gift Arts (This includes drawing celebrities and people, but please give me an example of the image that you want me to draw of that person)
2. Draw by Description
3. Coloring Requests.
4. Tutorial Request.

This is mainly done just fun, so most of the illustration request I'll stop at the sketch phase. Although I'll get to decide if I'll make it into a full illustration or color it.

For fan art and draw by description, If its a series or personality/things that I am not familiar with, please provide me with image reference.

Please do not include too many characters within on image request. For something to be completed in reasonable time frame, its best if you could limit the number of characters that you with to include in an image to 2 or 3 max.

Post and discuss request in this thread. Lets have fun. :3

I think you know what I want, Magi, my friend.

Magi Aug 7, 2006 09:54 PM

For some reason I remember that last time you ask me to draw sum nakked Chixx0r.

NOIR, baby.

Jessykins Aug 7, 2006 10:51 PM

Haha, that's fucking awesome, dude. I wish I could draw like you and/or Vemp. It's just badass.

Once I finish this next Lilael story, I'm gonna be asking you for another picture, just so you know. I'll let you read it first though, hopefully you'll get a nice image to work with.

Magi Aug 8, 2006 01:22 AM

Cool, I'll be looking forward to that then. :3

Just some work in progress.

Dark Nation Aug 8, 2006 04:11 PM

Hmm, since you did such an AWSOME job the first time I asked ya,
I shall take advantage and see if I can get something else:

I want you to draw me a Modern Dictator. One that is personable, wears some sort of business-atire possibly (Maybe put a 1920's/Anachronistix spin on it), but also has recognition as being a leader. The guy should smile, but gives off a hint of being evil. The closest image I can gather is Geese Howard from the King Of Fighters Series (Google that for image ref.), but its only as a comparison for the character's archetype.

If you need me to elaborate/clear up any confusion/etc., just PM or reply :)
If my request is something undoable, then I'll thinka somethin else, haha.

packrat Aug 8, 2006 04:13 PM

Ok, here is a request:

Can you do Belldandy outfitted in her fancy heaven garb(or some similar character of your own invention. I mostly just love ornate clothing like she has. :p) reclining on a hill, possible playing with some fuzzy woodland creature? :3
Can you do this so it fits well as a background for a 1024x768 resolution monitor?
And to top it off, can the majority of the "activity" be on the right-hand-side of the image? I have a lot of icons filling up the left side of my desktop.

Thanks so much. You are an awesome artist! :)

Magi Aug 8, 2006 08:39 PM

Dictator usually don't wear bussiness atire, from what I have seen, they usually wear military attire. Although that might be a interesting twist. :3
Remember this guy? The whole new world of pain, oh yeah.

packrat next.

Dark Nation Aug 9, 2006 01:50 PM

;_; I don't wanna bother youl because it IS a nice drawing, but my character that I had in mind was without glasses =o

Nice work anyway!

Magi Aug 9, 2006 05:31 PM

Good thing that I put the glasses in a seperate layer.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...no_glasses.jpg

Dark Nation Aug 11, 2006 01:04 AM

heh, that's cool. I especially like the title you gave it, considering I've seen the movie =D

I dunno... there's still something missing. Can't put my finger on it though. Don't worry, I can work with this. You're good at coming up with inital styles, I can massage it into my own guy at my lesure :p

Thanks for the pic! I don't think I was around on AIM when you IMed me and it doesn't notify me, so sorry about that. I wanted to show you some stuff too.

Vemp Aug 11, 2006 08:42 PM

Wow.. I like that piece you did for Ultima. I thought Ultima only likes yaoi?

Magi Aug 12, 2006 01:47 AM

vemp: I had always thought that to be a misnomer. Where does this whole yaoi thing come from anyway?

Ultima: You are welcome. :)

and now, Greykin's Anime Jack Sparrow...

Not sure what exactly people have in mind when it comes to anime-fying something though. Basically it is simplified characature so it would be easier to translate to animation or comics. This is a speed paint, so I guess it could be count as a intermediary step.

I did it just because I happend to stumble on some referece, although this doesn't really look like Johnny Depp. >_<;;

Mobius One Aug 12, 2006 07:10 PM

Quick, draw me an F-22 to celebrate the soon to be released Ace Combat X for PSP, as well as the 5 year anniversary of AC04 (in October) and the 9 year anniversary of AC2 (on the 15th)! Post haste!

Magi Aug 12, 2006 07:38 PM

If F22 is a girl, what type of girl would she be?

Greykin Aug 12, 2006 10:34 PM

A hot one, with armor, and wings lol, with some swords :D. *steals Spatula's request*

Thanks for the picture magi, his smile/smirk dealie made me chuckle lol.

How long did it take you to get that good? or is it you a lucky bastard and it's natural. hehe your art is awesome either way and I am thinking of something good I could hopefully ask you to do.

...and here it is http://s29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...Anch=imgAnch22

this is a character from a book I am writing and was wandering if(whenever it's conveniant for you) you could add your own spin on it. Im so friggin jelous of you.

Magi Aug 14, 2006 10:07 PM

Eh, considering that I study art, I am not exactly good "good". Although I do have some confident in the way I render certain things. I have been drawaing all my life, and seriouse study of art doesn't really come until last couple of years. There are hundrens if not thousands of stuff that I drawn while studying that i wouldn't show anyone now. Although I think if people are seriouse about studying the fundmental of art, they can get good pretty quick, you just either need to find the right instructor or get a good book with art regiment and stick to it.

Well, in a sense that's kinda of a violation of other's creative intagrity. I think concept art do this to some elfwood a while back, and I considered it somewhat mean spirited. Although I guess I wouldn't be so innocent considering that I have done something similar on an image board. >.> People called it art-rape there. Anyway.

Lost_solitude Aug 14, 2006 11:10 PM

I agree and will keep that in mind. That whole art rape thing, I will have to admit none of this was to my knowledge. I love this pic and thank you 1000 times over for it^_^

Lost_solitude Aug 16, 2006 07:49 PM

hey it's me again was wandering(again when ever you want) if you could do a pirate captain. I was thinking more of a big bulky guy who looks alittle like the guy from pirates of the carrabean but bigger and bulkyer.

packrat Aug 16, 2006 08:29 PM

NO! He has to do my ethereal-being/belldandy/pretty-girl-with-ornate-clothing first! >=U

Jk. Although, I am a bit eager for a new background. There is only so much tesselated Tsuruya I can handle. :3

i understand that is why I said when ever.

Kazyl Aug 20, 2006 07:20 PM

Would you be able to color something I drew? Just a really quick and loose coloring job is preferred. Maybe some textures if possible. There's space for a background but it's not required but something quick and loose would be cool.

Magi Aug 20, 2006 08:46 PM

Sure, its actually a lot faster then for me to do something from scratch (usually) . What do you want me to color?

I was kinda busy working on a commission, I'll be starting school again (after a long while) tomorrow. >.>;;

On packrat's request, after moping around for a few days, I wasn't able to come up with a good "etheral being" design, Although I wanted to do somethiing original for something like this, I guess I'd better get started on that Belldandy. However, here is something that I am doing for this:
It is a method that I learned somewhere and I'll be using this to design a character for this image.

Sent a PM.

Magi Aug 22, 2006 01:02 AM

Yo packrat, choose one. :3 and Kazyl, I am working on it, looking for some reference at the moment, but its the first day of school, craziness. :3

packrat Aug 22, 2006 02:05 AM

Woah, those are some neato silhouettes you've got there. Both C and D look pretty good, in my opinion.
I would lean more towards C, mostly because D appears to be "battle-ready." If you could incorporate some of the wing-like ornamental elements of D into C, you're golden. :)

Soldier Aug 23, 2006 05:34 PM

Not sure if you're still taking requests, but I would love to see you draw Shelke, from Dirge of Cerberus. Preferably holding those funky laser swords (and the funky glowing eyes whenever she uses those funky swords).

Magi Aug 23, 2006 10:07 PM

I am, although it might be slow, because this week has be somewhat rough. So if I am going to fill a request, its going to be rough too. >.>

Soldier Aug 23, 2006 10:26 PM

Take your time, I know the more you put into it, the more awesome it'll come out, so I'll be patient. :)

Lost_solitude Aug 24, 2006 10:42 AM

(again when ever you want) I was thinking of something like the big guy Banon from ff6 mixed with early (still living sc1) cervantes, but with a costume alittle like his sc3 costume. Not alot like it but alittle somthing to get an idea.

Admiral Amara Aug 30, 2006 10:07 PM

Sent a PM, you can get on that whenever you please (if you please).

EDIT: Already answered. Magi wins.

This is a painting that I started 2 years ago. Although I haven't work on it for just about that long. So I rub off the face and repainted it a bit. This is done using watercolor.

aiyaitsai Sep 24, 2006 12:23 PM

Wow, I like that painting. I love how you painted the negative space so that the shape of the doves would show up. It seems the colors are lighter at the lower half of the painting, and personally I would've thought the clouds could have been brighter. Besides that great job~

JammerLea Sep 25, 2006 01:59 PM

Awesome. You have some really great stuff here! I love your figure work and am jealous of your use of color. Hehe.

Soldier Sep 25, 2006 02:44 PM

I'm not sure if you mentioned this before, but where did you learn to draw? Did you read any books or take any classes, or did you self-teach yourself? I've been considering for a while to get into drawing, but I don't really know where to start.

Magi Sep 25, 2006 03:45 PM

JammerLea: Thanks! :D

aiyaitsai: I am actually planning on painting over those clouds, they don't really look like real clouds. ^_^;;

SOLDIER: I think I told a couple of people before, the type of measure you take to learn how to draw really depending on what you want to accomplish. I do have a professional goal, so I am actually taking classes and practicing on my own in a somewhat consistent basis. The learning process is pretty structured and schematic and each experience build upon one another. Although in a way it is both, since I also read books on drawings and find reference materials on my own, however, guidance that I received in class help tremendously. If you are doing this on your own, then you can take a somewhat different approach to things. Thinking about more just on having fun then anything, and learn as you go. Start with stuff that you wanted to draw, if you want to draw characters, for example, you might want to check out some books on figure drawing (and anatomy for reference) from the library, and read up a little bit about basic body construction and understanding how to analyze form on a human body, or even on a more basic level, get a book that teaches you how to see objects as a build up of simpler and geometric objects, learn how to sketch, those would help. Although in general, you just have to enjoy drawing a lot on your own terms.

tylermoore Sep 30, 2006 12:50 PM

hi um i got question how you do these picture like draw them in real life then scan them cuase i making a game for november and i want to have some cool drawings i can use also im posting a game i made lolz u can look for in in this category p3c3 nice drawing lol

birdy Oct 2, 2006 08:13 AM

hi magi your art is fantastic, am first time here and bit of technophobe but during enforced sickness (broken kneecap snowboarding, silly thing to do at my age but they said life began at 40) i started drawing again which i haven't done since i was a kid. and have got into comic/manga/anime stuff if that's the right term for it. anyway to the point. Do you draw your stuff on the computer or do you scan it in? I know you'll all probably wetting your selves at such a spupid question and my bad typing, but would love to know so i can have a go myself. have done some onto paper but is nowhere near your standard. thanks

Sachi Oct 20, 2006 09:49 AM

hiii. would you be able to draw me a baby dragon?

Description(tryinggg):
-back facing towards whoever is looking at it
-tail wrapped around the front of its body coming to the other side(if thats confusing jsut draw the tail wherever)
-head turned looking at us
-it looks innocent but you can tell theres an edge to it
-wings folded, sor that you can see the dragon
-cute horns and ears

thank you if you can! that would be so great! the more detailed the better. =D

Interesting characters. They're all original? If so, what for? If not, what're they from?

Also, I like the two on our right in the cleaned up version. I think they have the most intriguing poses.

Magi Nov 16, 2006 09:18 PM

Well, those are character sheets, it isn't suppose to be too dramatic as oppose to emphasis on clarity of their design for the most part. Those character are original, it is going to be used in the little comic that I am working on at the moment. Of course, i couldn't say that some of them isn't drawing inspiration from somewhere, but I did make an effort to distinguish my design/style from theirs, while other characters design is long time coming.

a little work in progress, native resolution, which isn't very big relatively speaking.
