Normally I can't stand Flash movies/animations, but damn, SMBZ is totally awesome and genuinely funny...well to me at least. It's basically a story about Mario AND Sonic joining forces to stop villains from stealing all seven chaos emeralds. Everything is sprite based. The fights are based on DBZ, but it's so much better than DBZ! Check out the huge fight in ep 3 for some mind blowing fun :D

It's actually pretty damn good. The fights are awesome. Even Bowser kicks a little ass. This is up there with Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom for best flash series I've seen.

I watched those flash movies a while back. That is definately on par with The Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom. It's probably the only decent sprite movie that's been released. Then again, there isn't really much you can do with a sprite movie without making it look like crap.

I am anticipating the next part. I wonder how long this whole series is gonna be?

Wow. This is really good. Just spent the last half hour watching them. The author did a pretty good job exploting various characters' traits, elements from the different series, and putting in little side plots already. Cool stuff. Especially great since I just recently completed the Mario & Luigi and Sonic DS games.

You know, I think the 'Z' in the title is preventing people from checking out the thread, and I don't blame them. I assure you people that SMB Z actually doesn't have much to do with DBZ, being a lot more SMB oriented.

I enjoyed this flash series, and I hope to see more.

Indeed. Really the only thing that connects it to DBZ is some of the music, the stupid episode ending thing, and the over-the-top fighting, which is actually very well put together. I may even watch it again.

I didn't really think I would enjoy this, but I found myself chuckling quite a bit throughout my viewing of them. The action was suprising cool for a flash cartoon.

This was great. This has to be the best Mario flash video out there. I'm always watching flash videos but this one is clearly much more well done than most of the others. I can't wait till the next part comes out.

Glad you guys liked it! It takes months between each episode though, but the end result is worth it. I actually came across this flash several months ago, but I never once thought of posting it here. I'll post more episodes when they come.

Funny, you must be a PAL cart player as you used "Starwing" instead of "Star Fox" in Episode 1's music list.

That is probly the sweetest flash mario i have ever seen. The fights are good and the dialogue is actual pretty good as well. The best is metal bowser lol.

The best part is where metal sonic stomps on Yoshi's head. That was just bad ass.

haha, very cool flash. I honestly didn't think I would sit through the first episode. But seeing mario take a beating for once had me coming back for more.

Just atched Sonic : Quest for Power and it seemed the production was a tad of lower quality.

Still prefer Super Mario Z.

Wow, one of my threads get resurrected from an almost one month long hiatus. There's no word yet on ep 4, but judging from the last three eps, it must take a long time to finish.

My only wish is that they used MechaSonic from SonicCD, not StH2...

Yeah, the Sonic CD version would've been the better Mecha Sonic. Wait, I thought it was Metal Sonic? Interesting. I thought that video was damn good. It blew away all of my expectations for sure.

Nah, Mecha Sonic is much cooler than Metal Sonic.

I checked this series out a few weeks ago. It's definitely one of my favorite flash animation series. I like the mix of Nintendo/Bruce Faulconer music, although the Nintendo tunes are played far more often. It'll be interesting to see how episode 4 turns out.

What I didn't like about this episode though was...

Good episode.

The part about Sonic and his friends was actually surprising and adds a whole new level of evilness to Mecha Sonic.

And on to a long wait before eps 5 :D

I'm loving this series. These may take months to complete, but you can tell that the effort shows. Sprite-based fighting has never been so epic.

Bonus points for including the Koopa Bros. I thought they faded into obscurity eons ago.

Haha, this is great stuff. The long loading times were worth it. These are really causing some DBZ nostalgia. I haven't actually watched the series in years.

Very cool. The backstory was something else, I can't believe (what vuigun said) actually happened.

The wrong music scene wins, and Luigi is quickly becoming my favorite character. The fight was awesome, but I felt that it took a while before it reached awesome status. I see that it's trying to emulater DBZ's style more and more often, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but still, it shows especially during the first half, and it's also the most redundant half of the fight.

Great new episode, although I think they could've chosen a better music track for the Sonic backstory. Awesome fight scene as well.

Also, the Sonic backstory was very reminiscent of the Future Trunks timeline.

I must admit that I actually want to see the next episode. Although, during the entire Sonic Flashback I was having STH3/S&K memories. I remember the Death Egg!

And hey, they have some pro wrestling in it as well! All is good...

I've been keeping track of this series for some time, and I love it, if for no other reason than the fight scenes. The storyline is... okay, well I'm a complete and utter NERD and even I think it's cheesy, but it at least accomplishes its purpose. :tpg:

Pretty cool stuff. I kinda wish the guy would clean up Mario and Luigi's sprites though. They look alot messier than yoshi's, sonic's, and shadow's sprites.

Aside from that, the animations were top-notch. I'd say it's on par with The Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom flash series.

Great episode. The Yoshi's Island flashback was hilarious. I still think the battle music could be better though, or use some DBZ fighting music. Other than that, it was great to watch and I can't wait until the next one. :)

Yeah, I didn't really think the music matched the battle scene either. Excellent work though.

I had forgotten about this. I saw the first part a while back, but I don't think any of the subsequent parts were out yet. Now that there are more episodes, the quality and hilarity have certainly gone up.

This is MUCH better than DBZ music. Maybe some of the songs from later in the series would be okay, but I'd much rather hear stuff like this. There's already more than enough tying this to DBZ.

Yeah, it takes a while to make new episodes. It can take the guy months just to make one, but it's worth it I say. It's good to see that he isn't giving up on it yet.

I've known about Alvin-Earthworm's stuff before he started making these and he's a pretty talented guy, so when he first started making these I was kinda surprised since I could easily see him pulling off frame by frame for the whole series.

Then again it's probably better that he didn't, 1st because he'd get hassled to find voice actors most likely, 2nd a frame by frame would take about twice as long if not more and 3rd most of his viewers wouldn't care anyway! You mix Mario, Sonic and DBZ in one movie as long as the storys half decent are they going to care about the animation? (although it is still a prettty high standard here) No chance because it sells itself on the characters game/animation historys alone :rolleyes:

Edit: Top rated movie on all of Newgrounds? This is a decent series but I rest my case once someones fanboy mode sets in logic goes out the window :riiight:

Well, this was my first time viewing all of them. I must say that these are insanely good. Eps. 6 was great. The pop culture internet references owned [ha ha ha, 9000], its very impressive to see this animator have a good skill in humor and action, though SOME dialogue can get a little simple. Overall, its great. I can hardly wait til Eps. 7. I guess with his time patterns that shall be in 4-5 months from now. Heh.

Episode 6 was so awesome, almost had me crying! Can't wait for the next episode. I love it how the focal point is teamwork, whereas in many other power-up series (naruto, bleach etc.) it's almost always one-to-one combat. Brilliant!

Just watched ep 6. I love how this guy does battles. Bowser better make a comeback!

Oh, and I give the ep major props for using Star Fox music!

Episode 5 is amazing but episode 6 was just a godly smack down.
I've been watching these since episode 1 came out and it's an amazing series.
Can't wait for episode 7.

Oh wow, the story is getting pretty good. Its good to see the animator using more than pixels this time around. Still, it's amazing regardless.
