But is it wireless or USB?

Cobalt Katze Dec 9, 2006 04:12 AM

USB. My computer can't read bluetooth.

chato Dec 9, 2006 07:19 PM

Out of curiousity, Did anyone get a movie with the ps3? I got HD Talledega Nights XD.

Soldier Dec 9, 2006 07:21 PM

Yes. Unfortunately it's a lousy transfer as far as Blu Ray is concerned. For a look at what the format is capable of, watch Corpse Bride, Monster House or Ice Age 2.

Inhert Dec 9, 2006 07:56 PM

well yes all first shipment of the ps3 was coming with the same blu-ray movie Talledega Nights (which I still didn't watch and don't plan too) but the Eb games where I got it was giving another free blu-ray movie and you had to choose it from a little pile. I immediately spot the only copy of The fifth element and took it XD

Eesh, another BR movie with a terrible transfer. I've heard of comparison between this version and the Superbit version where the former doesn't even eclipse the latter. Hopefully I can find the SB version of the movie and run it on the Oppo, since I saw over at a friend's house on his PS3 and it was nice. This keeping in mind that the PS3 isn't a great DVD player, and IIRC, doesn't upconvert.

Awesome news on the controller Cobalt. Tried any other games with it?

Cobalt Katze Dec 10, 2006 05:18 AM

Nah, I don't really have any emulatory things on my computer though now that I have a working controller I may nab an SNES one and give some stuff a whirl.

yeah I heard about it, but I don't have an HDTV (yet) so i don,t really see the difference from a DVD for now >.> but I didn't choose a movie just for the quality, I just the only good movie that they were giving away XD

Well, neither did the testers when comparing the SB version and the BR transfer of the title, heh. Hopefully they'll get their act together, because the intial transfer for 5th was atrocious too.

BTW, I'm looking forward to your feedback on what the controller works/doesn't work with, Cobalt.

Slayer X Dec 11, 2006 10:57 AM

Pretty much any movie made before the DVD format can't really be improved upon from the original. However almost all movies since then are shot with digital HD cameras that have much better resolution then that of a DVD and take gigabytes of strage to hold, these are the movies that will be able to use BR, that and animated films as pointed out earlier.

Cobalt Katze Dec 11, 2006 02:42 PM

The PS3 controller looks to be compatable with any application/game that accepts controller input. I figured out what all the button labels are, for those interested:

B1 - Select
B2 - L3 (Stick click)
B3 - R3 (Stick click)
B4 - Start
B5 - Dpad Up
B6 - Dpad Right
B7 - Dpad Down
B8 - Dpad Left
B9 - L2
B10 - R2
B11 - L1
B12 - R1
B13 - Triangle
B14 - O
B15 - X
B16 - Square

Right Analog - Z-axis (for PSU camera control mapping)

Not exactly true. Movies are transfered to analog film (35mm, 65mm or 70mm). These have a potential resolution which exceeds a 2000x2000 digital resolution while still looking better than when originally shown on a theater screen, so doing old transfers to HD isn't a problem. Of course they won't be as sharp as new movies recorded with the latest HD cameras, but a film transfer to home movie is going to look a heck of a lot better at 1080p native than a 480p being scaled to 1080p by a TV scaler.

Slayer X Dec 11, 2006 08:25 PM

That is correct.

Sorry if I was confusing you though. But I meant that for there to be a large difference from DVD to BR it has to have been done via digital recording, where as you pointed out, a DVD can be made from a film source with improved quality, however if you use that same film for a BR version, it'll look pratically identical to the DVD version.

Mercury Dec 12, 2006 09:45 AM

Maybe I'm wrong, but as far as I know, the first movie that have been completly shot with digital HD cameras is Star Wars Episode II - Attacks of the clone, and that was in 2001.

Balikruxh Dec 12, 2006 10:32 AM

I love the PS3 with a passion and its game quality is going to be threw the roof when more come out within the year. But there is one thing I have to complain about and that is the controller. First, I actually wanted the "BAT" a rang style one just because it was new and interesting. But the old design works for the PS2 and PSone so I cant really complain about the design. My complaint really has to do with the removal of the rumble feature.

Come on Sony, are you telling me that just because the two systems (i.e. six axle rotation and rumble feature) cant live together with an on\off feature? I want that rumble feel again, it is what made the game just alittle bit more involving. Sure tilting the controller to fly around is fun, but I want to feel that grenade explode next to me.

That is my only complaint at the moment with the new system along with launch titles kinda sucking it alittle too much.

Slayer X Dec 12, 2006 10:39 AM

Hell, I wish the 360 had the launch titles that the PS3 had, cause other then RidgeRacer and Condemned everything else was a let down.

As for the rumble feature, after ten years I don't even notice it anymore. As some of you may or may not know, the 360's wireless controller rumble shuts off when it gets to 30% battery life remaining, however mine still dies half way through a match, simply I never notice the rumble when it's working or not. And to tell you the truth, I'm more excited about it's motion sensor ability then I ever was about the rumble. However I'm only one person withing the crowd of mixed feelings about the situation.

However the one thing I'm REALLY disapointed about is how hard it is to get a PS3, sure the 360 was hard to find too, but not THIS hard. I have $760 cash sitting right in front of me for when I find a PS3 and STILL nothing... argh.

Mercury: You could very well be right, I don't know. I don't really watch many movies and I watch even less TV (only Family Guy, 24, & HOUSE).

Inhert Dec 12, 2006 10:40 AM

well I may be wrong but I heard that sony had to remove the rumble feature because of a law suit, apparantly another compagny created the rumble feature before Sony and they sued Sony for it, and now Sony had to remove it....

I don't see the big deal about it. I'm playing game on my ps3 and I already forgot that the ps2 had a rumble feature...

Balikruxh Dec 12, 2006 10:53 AM

I dont know it just kind of was a little feature outside of the game that I loved to have.
The limitations of the production is that one big complaint people had all over though, so my rumble complaint is probably far and in between top priority to most people. I guess that is a plus to living on a college campus in a small town. Big enough student population to get a store nearby, but small enough to only have mediocre fans waiting to get the system.
1/10 people in line. . . 1/6 to get one opening day Woohoo!

P.S. Inhert where did you get your sig picture? I've been looking for someone or somewhere to get an FFXIII sig made.

Slayer X Dec 12, 2006 11:02 AM

Balikruxh: You could download the FF XIII trailer from gametrailers.com and just make your own pics by freezing the video at the desired stance.

Inhert: You'd be correct. The company was Immersion who sued both Sony and Microsoft. However before going to court Microsoft bought Immersion, dropped the case against Microsoft and then increased the fine to an amount that would put Sony out of business if they were to pay the fine. And then before the case even got to court Microsoft sold the company to some other company and in the end forced Sony to cut the rumble feature. The only reason why Sony doesn't say that is because they don't want to admitt that Microsoft got to them.

Inhert Dec 12, 2006 04:27 PM

can someone explain me how to make the sixaxis work on a computer, because I did exactly what was in the link provided and I can't seem to make it work...

Double Post:
nevermind I got it working ^^ and it's weird but PSU was more fun with a controller than a keyboard XD

Slayer X Dec 13, 2006 11:55 AM

HELL YA!!! I FINALLY GOT ONE!!!

However it's taken 5minutes for the update to get to 25%, does it usually take this long? Also do the demos take a long time to download too?

CryHavoc Dec 13, 2006 11:57 AM

Slayer how did you get it? i thought the shipment was all sold?

Slayer X Dec 13, 2006 12:03 PM

I went to FutureShop at 7:30AM and when they opened at 9AM they had 3 60GB PS3s and I was the first one in line, hence I got one. It's as easy and random as that.

UPDATE:
Man this is killer. The system actually emulates surround sound for MP3s & CDs, something I wish my 360 could do. Also does anyone know how to select the dune buggies in the MotorStorm demo? I could do it on the EB games kiosk, but I can't remember how to do it on my demo.

--==N-N-T-B==-- Dec 14, 2006 02:52 PM

my ps3 story is kind of lame i guess...

at launch i was waiting outside of wallmart for a good 12 hours before a manager came out and said no lines where to be forumed

clearly otehrs had the same idea i did... and it was to late to go to another store...

so i waited and waited i started a total of 36 hours before store opend and i needed my 60 gig...

only in the end i was shafted by wall mart

they said at 10am prior to the selling of the units.

"we are going to do a raffle for those who are here"

i was first in line shouldnt it be first come first served i cryed.

but in the end it didnt matter... they ran the raffle

they had 6 60 gig units and 4 40 gigs and 4 vouchers for 60 gigs

and i was the last to be called. and only got a 20 gig

most people there like 9 of them wanted the ps3 to sell online.

me i wanted a 60 gig for the ps3 > psp conectivity

sad and dishartend i waited and got my 20 gig.

i wanted a 60 gig and will still get one. after i sell my 20 online ill try for a 60... because well i need a 60gig ps3...

Slayer X Dec 14, 2006 04:03 PM

Inhert: I know you guys were talking about this already on the last page, however I'd just like to clarify something. Is the HDCP protection also on PS3 games? Because I could have sworn that the protection was only on the BR-movies. I wanted to hook my PS3 up to my monitor also via DVI, but if you're sure that it won't work without HDCP support then I'll just have to believe you. (My monitor is a ViewSonic VA1912wb)
