4 Ints by Grossmen, yet the Cardinals allow two fumble return TDs and a punt return TD.
...Come on Leinhart, the game's still four quarters long. |
Well, while most people are talking about how colossal a loss this was for the Cardinals (and it was indeed colossal), I'm now seeing this as more of a revelation about the Bears, even in victory. Last night's game showed what happens, and what will happen, when Rex Grossman struggles. Now, I don't think he's gonna be having 6 turnover (4 INTs and 2 fumbles) every week, but Chicago is going to find themselves in trouble against the elite teams if he doesn't play well. It was just one game but it could be a foreshadowing of things to come if they don't make the necessary adjustments.
And damn, 55 yards on 36 rushing attempts for Edgerrin James, and a fumble that changed the tone of the game. "Shut down" isn't even enough to call what happened to him. |
I like how at halftime I thought the Bears would come back, and win. This is the Cardinals we are talking about. Too bad my prediction was correct, as I'm a Packer fan.
How long will it be before ESPN cans Joe Theismann. I'm sick of listening to him. |

And Bishop, I have to agree that we already hyped up the Bears offense due to their winning streak - along with them beating a Alexander-less Seattle. Rex Grossmen is good, but he may not be as effective and dependable near the end of the season into the post-season. Arizona doesn't have a "shut-down" defense, so I was quite surprised with the result as Seattle did very poorly and their defense is thought to be pretty good. Still, with six turnovers, Grossmen really didn't allow the offense to do much as even Thomas Jones had only 39 yards rushing and he was projected to run up and down Arizona's defense. Looks like Lovie Smith will be reviewing what went wrong as they head into their bye week. |
Did anybody see Denny Green's after-game conference? Bleepfest. He was understandably not happy. Arizona clearly could have and should have won that game, but they choked.
Chicago needs to get their act together. Sure it's the first time they're 6-0 in 20 years, but there's still 10 more games for them to play. |

Leinart did his job on that last drive though. He got them in a position to win the game (yeah, he did struggle mightily in the 2nd half). Down the road, I think he'll turn this team around. |

Yeah...Coach Green will be seeking some O-Linemen this offseason (or by the trade deadline, whenever that is - today, maybe?) because they pretty much have legitimate starters in the rest of the offense. |
A couple NFL-related headlines:
>> In rush to retire? Giants' Barber 'leaning toward' it >> Bears safety Brown out indefinitely after foot surgery >> Favre angry that NFL turns its back on Robinson |

I know this doesn't add to any conversation, but who cares. |
Interesting day of football so far. Tampa Bay over Philedelphia, 7 to 0. They forced the number one offense in the league to give up 3 turnovers, one resulted in a TD.
And Michael Vick finally threw his first 3 TD game of his (pro?) career, and it's only the first half. |

Except...Holy SHIT!!!!! Cincy won, Steelers are...in the process of losing, but I'm still holding my breath. A Vick pick could turn things around real fast. |
Ronde Barber is player of the week on defense, 6 tackles and two INTs which were brought back for TDs.
And holy shit 62 yards, 'sup Matt Bryant. And Vick and the Falcons won in OT, 41 - 38; 4 TDs for Vick. Some great games today, I must say (San Diego and Kansas City, being one of them). |
Today made me sad. Steelers lost, and I lost in the NFL Survivor Poll I was in, with a total purse of $3500. :(

E: Wanna see a Donovan McNabb turn into an ice sculpture? Check it out! http://youtube.com/watch?v=3vnNdsQRMWs
That image of McNabb and Reid will forever be etched into my mind. I do, however, love the fact that I listened to the radio during that kick and heard Gene Deckerhoff and Hardy Nickerson go completely insane. Holy fucking shit. I was still in a complete state of shock after he made it. When Westbrooke broke 5 tackles and ran 50 yards I was cussing up a storm. My brother said he heard me from the sidewalk outside our house. Then, by some dumb-luck miracle, Matt Bryant makes the kick off his life and I lose my head; Jumping up and down and screaming at the top of my lungs "NO WAY, NO FUCKING WAY!" What a goddamn game. Blow a 17 point lead then just by the hair on your ass walk away with a win. |
That was a crazy game. 3rd loss this season that the Eagles handed to the other team on a silver platter. We need to cut down on the damn mistakes.

The Eagles usually don't play stupid like this, but for whatever reason we are this season.
Giants loss - Trent Cole kicks McKenzie in the crotch. 15 yard penalty, Jay Feely gets his FG moved 15 yards closer. Saints loss - Tie ball game. Eagles stop Saints on a sack, which would result in a punt and Eagles getting the ball around 3:30-4min left. 12 men on the field. The 12th man(Omar Gaither) wasn't even near the sack and him being off the field would've resulted in a sack anyway. Saints have a 3rd and 5 instead of 4th and 15 and pick it up to win the game. Bucs loss - McNabb throws a stupid pass to LJ Smith at the end of the half instead of throwing it out of the end zone and settling for a FG. Then Jerome McDougle kicks a penalty flag to give the Bucs 30 frickin total yards up the field. It can make you pull your frickin hair out. |
The Patriots are going to run away with the AFC East AGAIN.

NY Jets = 4-3, and 2-1 in their division. New England will more than likely take the division, but at least there is someone else in the division with a winning record. |
This pertains to Madden NFL 2007 rather than just NFL discussion, but I'd like to just show it to everyone, because I laughed my ass off on this one.

Baltimore/New Orleans Seattle/KC Falcons/Bengals Jacksonville/Philly Rams/Chargers Broncos/Colts Dallas/Carolina Should be an awesome week in the NFL. |
Fuck Ben. Fuck Cowher.
Ben is now a gun-shy, bitch of a quarterback. Cowher is apparently satisfied with only one Super Bowl win, and no longer gives a shit. Here's to the first overall pick. |
Them Raiders sure are a fearsome team. I'm pretty sure that's the first time I've seen a team score 20 points when their quarterback had stats of 5/14 for 51 yards and 1 interception.
On the other hand the Ravens finally showed some offensive production, driving 80 yards down the field to get McNair one of his 3 touchdowns, but as usual our defense provided the padding with two interception returns. Glad to see the Falcons and the Colts win with Manning having an unbelievable game and Vick showing that he can pass too. |
Well, I was at work for a good part of the game today. Seems like doing work was a better idea than watching that game. I'm thinking that was the nail on the coffin for the season. I really don't see them getting any better. I do find it odd that this team, for the most part, was the same team that won the super bowl last year. That is a very concerning issue. Steelers also lack depth in their lineup so don't plan them to rebound next year. I hope I'm wrong believe me.
Good thing the Pens are kicking ass right now, maybe that's why I don't care as much about the Steelers this year. |
A big part of the problem with the Steelers has to be their attitude. Last year, no one expected us to win the Super Bowl. We were underdogs. We played better as underdogs. Now, though, we think we're the shit for some fucking reason. If Cowher actually gave a shit, he might have set everyone straight, but he really seems to have lost his fire. It's a shame to say, but I wouldn't be sad to see Russ Grimm or Ken Whisenhunt become head coach after this season. "Cowher Power" just ain't getting the job done.
