As far as Advance Wars characters go:

Sami and Grit I agree with, and in fact a while ago in NP they had a poll amongst the staff to see who they'd like in the next SB, and Grit was one of the top choices. And with the inclusion of Snake, they might even break the tradition of "no real guns," making these two even more likely (although they'll still probably do "cartoon-damage" with real guns, of course).

Personally, I'd rather have Jake than Andy. He just seems to have a bit more personality, and his music theme would work in game. Andy could throw wrenches, I guess, but his repair theme just doesn't fit in.

And rather than Max, I'd prefer to have Grimm. Sure, I guess you could have Max as a close-range brawler with a weakness to projectiles/weakness with projectile items. But Grimm is a hilarious character, and would be great as a high-offense/low-defense close range brawler.

Javier has a sword, of course, and could have several defensive powers. I could also see Hawke working, with darkness-based projectiles. And maybe even Von Bolt, slowly floating around on his chair, which does both his A and B attacks, and probably with a paralysis move or two.

Lastly, a long time ago I came up with a moveset for Earthbound's Poo, who I think would work great in the game (Ness already stole Paula's moves, but Jeff would be cool with a bunch of gadgets).

A attacks - martial arts
B - PSI Starstorm (variant on the Star Wand, perhaps)
B smash - Sword of Kings
B up - PSI Teleport (weaker version of the Warp Star, takes a moment to initiate so that other players can try and stop him and it won't save him after falling off the edge beyond a certain point.)
B down - Mirror (becomes a copy of the nearest opponent, returns to normal with a taunt)

I think we all know who needs to show up somewhere in this game:

Yeah, that's right, Sturm from the Advance Wars games. I don't care if he is
Spoiler:
dead
he is still awesome and I would love to see something like his Meteor Strike turn into one of the special attacks.

No one cares about the first two characters anymore, and why would Nintendo use the last three characters? Come on, think, this is a Nintendo game. If they never appeared in a Nintendo game in any form, and likely never will, then there is no way they are going to show up.

Newbie1234 May 11, 2006 02:41 PM

I think there's way too much competition between Sony and Nintendo for Jak, Sly, etc. to be in the game. However, knowing Sony and how much they like to copy (Field Commander is a blatant ripoff of Advance Wars for example), I wouldn't be surprised if they had their own version of Super Smash Bros.

Yeah. I would definitely go with Hawke. Black Storm for the win.

Now that you mention it, you know who I'd really love to see from the Wars series? Advance Wars 1 era MIGHTY KANBEI <3

Someone on 4chan also hilariously suggested Segata Sanshiro should be playable. The development team should just go nuts and add Nintendo staff in there too. Segata Sanshiro vs. Reggie~

Mobius One May 11, 2006 02:51 PM

I still care about Crash. Just because his games under Universal have sucked doesn't mean that I don't remember the good times on Playstation. Besides, there's a couple Crash games on Gamecube that the kids apparently love, so Crash wouldn't be a bad idea. His moves seem to fit right in with Smash Bros. Spin, Bellyflop, slide. His special could be a Wampa fruit Bazooka.

Miyamoto Shigeru should be a playable character too. He could use Wiimotes as weapons!

Very true, but people keep forgetting that.

Anyway, I'm excited for Brawl. Bring on the Wii!

His DS would print out money to drown the enemy with too.

No, what we'd need is IWATAAAA. He would grow gigantic with IWATA TIME :tpg:

People keep forgetting that Metal Gear was originally designed for MSX2.

There were two main versions of Metal Gear initially produced: the original MSX2 version and the Famicom/NES version. The MSX2 version was the first version of the game, designed by Hideo Kojima and his team, while the NES version was a port, developed by a different team within Konami. The NES version was the more well-known version, being released for a mainstream platform. It was also the only one of the two versions released in North America, in addition to Japan and Europe.

The game went through numerous changes and compromises when it was ported to the NES. Konami produced the NES version without Kojima's direct involvement and several changes and compromises were made without his supervision as a result. Kojima has often stated that he did not like the NES version and found the game too hard.

Oh, and in addition to this, I think some of you are fantasising too much. I at least wouldn't be happy with playing characters like Jak, Crash or Sly, since I still prefer the original Nintendo characters and see everything else just as nice rare addition, which should stay rare.

Yeah, that's right, Sturm from the Advance Wars games.

Yeah, but I think he and other not-quite-so-playable CO's should appear in an Advance Wars level, where they randomly pop up every so often and use a CO Power (Sturm using Meteor Strike, of course, Drake using Tsunami, Sensei summoning infantry and B-Choppers, etc).

Yeah, but all the classic Nintendo characters returning from Melee are pretty much a given. So if you prefer Nintendo characters, then use them!

I agree in this respect. I want to see some more third party characters, now that Snake is in the mix, but the ratio should stay very low IMO. Like 8-10/1 or something.

There are still a lot of Nintendo characters I want to see in this game, like Ridley from the Metroid series, someone(s) to represent the Wars series, and the Custom Robo series to name a few.

If they can make Captain Falcon a playable character, when all he did is race in car, I think anyone from Advance Wars has playable character potential. I agree, though, that a Advance Wars themed level starring other COs and their powers would be great, though. Get some nice level appearance changes with stuff like Drake, as you mentioned, and Oalf.

Congle line of abuse. Or is that conga-line. Or congaline. May 11, 2006 03:38 PM

Am I the only person here who despises Crash and Jack+Daxter? I'd lose respect for this game and company if they introduced them into this series.

But the biggest surprise was that Metal Gear Solid's very own Solid Snake was revealed to be on the roster. This marks the first time a 3rd party character made an appearance in a Smash Bros. game. Shigeru Miyamoto and Masahiro Sakurai (Creator of the series) stated that they were in talks with other companies for additional 3rd party fighters.

How is this relevant to Mega Man? Well, Nintendo is currently taking suggestions from fans for additions to the game, including characters and music, via an online form. This is a chance to get your favorite Mega Man characters to appear in the new Super Smash Bros. While the form is intended for the Japanese, it's well worth a try.

Very exciting. I should sign up as well.

I hate them all too. They don't belong anywhere near a Smash Bros game.

Freelance May 11, 2006 04:25 PM

I don't care for Crash or Ratchet and Clank, mainly because I've never played a single game in their respective series. Bah.

If the Japanese fans don't request to have Totakeke in the game, I'll personally go to each of their houses and tear their limbs off! Haha, just kidding.

update: I just saw the trailer at IGN and it looks pretty cool. I've only played one Metal Gear game in my entire life (that being the one on the NES) so I know nothing about Snake, but damn, his intro was hilarious!

Sakabadger May 11, 2006 04:39 PM

Excellent trailer. I love it when stuff that tends to take itself seriously (aka Snake) is able to present itself in a lighthearted, humorous fashion. Winner!

If the game ends up having Megaman in it (original series or X preferred) then I'm completely and utterly sold (right now I'm only completely sold).

Also lol. Let's go waaaaaaaay back and use the guys from Track and Field and Super Team Games. Nintendo could make some adapter to get the power pad working with the Wii and then... mad stompfest. <_<

I don't have much to say since everybody already said it. Kudos to you Nintendo. I'm your bitch now.

they would probally have to get rid of the blood when he bites on characters heads though, kids: MARIO DOESN'T HAVE BLOOD, DON'T DIE MARIO!!!! *sobs*

lazuli May 11, 2006 05:00 PM

I reallly like the idea of Bub and Bob as a 2-character team. If not adding Dark Samus separately, maybe they can modify suit-Samus to be able to become Dark Samus via a Zelda/Shiek type thing. I wouldn't mind a character from Golden Sun, either.

edit: god, if Mog could be in this game...! or even Alucard.
