Neversoft totally dropped the ball...had I known this game would have been full of suck I would have saved my 90 bucks for rockband or something

The soundtrack is decent, with a few great songs, like Knights of Cydonia, Number of the Beast, One, Talk Dirty to Me, The Devil Went Down to Georgia, Avalanca (Fuck yeah for Heroes del Silencio), and a couple of others.

I mean though, fuck, the difficulty is ridiculously high for Hard, and tried Expert and wasn't really fun. This is something I really dislike about the game, and ruins a lot of the fun for me. Guitar Hero 2 was the first rhythm game I have picked up in a long time since my dancepad for DDR died, and Hard had its difficulty, but wasn't ridiculous like this game is. I do way better on Expert at GH2 than this one. Have seen videos of Youtube of people doing all these crazy feats like beating Through the Fire and Flames, and all sorts of shit. God damnit, I can hardly do it on Normal, and Hard feels like Expert at some point because it's just stupid.

I enjoy the game at certain point, but perhaps I'll try Rock Band out. Been checking the soundtrack, and the gameplay videos, it looks more fun than this one, because I'm sure it won't be frustrating to play when I don't know how to play a real guitar for shit (when I really want to learn later on).

These are my two cents.

Well, they probably imagine people that have been playing since the first GH have been getting better, so they should gradually ramp the difficulty up so they don't feel like they can walk up to the newest game and beat expert on their first play through.

Can't you still unlock all of the content just by playing through the game on Normal? Complaining about not being able to beat GH3 on the highest level is like complaining about not being able to beat Wolfenstein on the hardest difficulty. You just need to be really freaking good at the game in order to do it.

Even better, you can unlock all the stuff by playing through on easy now, as opposed to GH2 where you have to play through on at least medium to get the encore songs. That said, you'll need a friend and probably a second guitar to unlock all the other songs, as some are co-op only by the looks of it.

DarthSavior Nov 26, 2007 07:57 AM

Of course, you could always enter an "unlock all songs" cheat. >_>

I've tried dabbling into a few songs on expert, I apparently can 5-star "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" and "Story of My Life." I know, they're tier 1 songs, but I'm surprised I could play them. o_o

Dude... We get it. You hate the game. The last three pages have had randomly placed posts with you expressing your anger for the game. Take it back to Gamestop and be done with it already.

I don't see why everyone hates this one all of a sudden, when (to me, at least) it feels exactly the same as the previous two.

True, that is one thing to consider, but to newer players to the game/genre, might not be that fun. For the hardcore fans, it might be a good challenge.

You can unlock most of the content in Easy, like Omagnus posted, but it's not about unlocking everything, it's about improving, and being able to play better on higher difficulties. Guess it's a personal feat; not required, but always nice to be able to do. Fuck, I'm sure I won't beat Raining Blood on Expert in about 5 months if I play frequently. :tpg:

Not because of the speed, but songs like Before I Forget and 3's and 7's have ridiculously insane note patterns that come at me way too fast to react to.

And don't get me started on Through the Fire and Flames on Hard. Best I could do is 24% through the song, and that's if I can achieve Star Power when Post Insanity comes around.

What I did to get past the Mosh 1 of Raining Blood was practice, and a lot. Go slow and check how the patterns go, then increase the speed little by little, acing it all the way. When you get to Full Speed finally, try to do it, and just make sure to hit as many as possible. The mistake I kept on making was just to press the buttons insanely fast, which made me lose not even halfway through it. With practice, you'll notice how to do it. Once the Mosh is over, you will do good! As for Before I Forget, yeah, agreed 100%. Practice is very helpful in this game, haha.

No, don't start with Through the Fire and Flames, please. That song is frustrating, and won't beat it in a long time. Period. :(

I can't even get past the intro on "Story of My Life." On Hard. :gonk:

Am I the only person who wishes that instead of ramping up the difficulty of the lower tiers just to make veterans happy, they'd just go and make another difficulty level higher than Expert?

DarthSavior Nov 27, 2007 04:26 PM

How do people get used to hitting GRB or RYO chords quickly? Getting my fingering to hit those is just... unnatural. =/

The_Griffin Nov 27, 2007 05:31 PM

To be honest? The same way that I'm getting used to playing Hard. Practice, practice, practice. And tons of it.

AlphaDeus Nov 28, 2007 09:42 PM

There seems to be some confusion about the point I was trying to make about pull-offs.

Of course you can hold down lower fret buttons whenever you're pressing a single higher fret button (2 & 3 notes you have to press only those buttons) and this is especially helpful on parts that require you to alternate between the same high and low fret over and over while strumming.

But the actual "use" of a pull-off was the ability to hit a series of fast notes without strumming (the glowing notes). In the original Guitar Hero, this was the ONLY way to hit descending glowing note streams. You had to hold down all the notes in the stream and pull-off each finger at the right time to hit the rest of the notes.

It's hard to explain without pictures :P

Anyway, I'm glad they beefed up the difficulty. If anything, they should put an extra difficulty in between medium and hard to bridge the learning gap. They really can't make the game much harder, and expert should always be considered the top level. (although if they ever announced a "Master" level, I'd be all over that =p)

I still have a lot of issues with this, because I always screw up; my fingers aren't fast enough, or not good coordination to pull that. Sometimes it happens and don't know how... Tried practicing that kind of thing last time with Guitar Hero's 2 X-Stream of Voivoid, and just fucked up all the time in the very last part.

Still require a lot of practice. ;_;

nanaman Dec 1, 2007 08:03 PM

I love the concept of the Guitar Hero games, although as a guitar player I'd say it's not that very close to the real deal (well I know that is kinda obvious but still), and I wish they had found a better use for the whammy bar cause now you just wham it like crazy to fill the star meter.

I can understand playing the game for fun a couple of times, but practicing to get real good is no use I think. If you have time to practice imitating to play the guitar it's just better to practice playing the real deal because it's more rewarding in the end.

And bout the game, I think this game has the best songs so far, lots of great tunes in this one (except the fucking slayer song, god how I hate Slayer! The song is crap and it's not even fun to play). The bonus songs suck as always though.

Cataclysm Dec 1, 2007 08:26 PM

Has anyone actually gotten to the death train on The Devil Went Down to Georgia on expert? I've beaten Lou several times, but getting to the end of the song is a hell of a lot more difficult... He kills me when I get around 3/4 of the song. ;_;

The_Griffin Dec 1, 2007 08:33 PM

Same here... except I failed on Medium. I shudder to think about what it's going to be like on Hard (when I get there eventually, and oh lord I will).

True, but maybe people just enjoy playing the game? You could make the same argument for any type of game (like, why bother with Grand Theft Auto when you can SHOOT PEOPLE, STEAL CARS AND KILL HOOKERS FOR REAL?)

Although I have to admit...I think GH made using my index and ring finger together a lot easier on a real guitar. My hand doesn't cramp up like it used to when I started and it feels a lot more natural. Plus, I think GH is a good way for people to gain an appreciation of just what a real guitarist is doing, where notes are (like how constant greens simulate strumming the low E string), how fast you have to make transitions on the fretboard and how many notes a real guitarist is firing off, especially when you can barely hit enough to pass on a simplified toy.

While Slayer is pretty shitty, or more specifically the Hard Rain part, some of the bonus tracks are amongst the best in the game if you give them the time of day. Most notably Avalancha, Heir Kommt Alex and The Way It Ends.

Okay, question: I just came across this new magical drug that improves my scores called "Hyper Speed". Anyone else use it? I played around with it for a few hours last night and I boosted most of my scores by pretty significant amounts. Once I got used to the speed boost, it spaced everything out so I don't have clumps of notes I have to hit at a time, so I wasn't losing my multipliers on scaled rows of notes every 2 seconds and made it so my brain could actually process the solos. Personally, I think it's a lot more enjoyable with it on.

Oh, and I happen to love Slayer, but I'm not really looking forward to anymore of their songs in GH. Ditto Dragonforce. And it doesn't helped RB that it has the same stupid bassline I hate in Barracuda leading into Mosh 1.

Quite a lot of people use it actually, since Scorehero does accept this as an acceptable mode to play with.

AlphaDeus Dec 2, 2007 04:06 PM

I personally prefer to play without hyperspeed because I feel better playing the game the way it was meant to be played. I tried hyperspeed briefly and it boosted a bunch of my scores because the notes were easier to read. I kind of felt bad so I only use it when I'm playing against someone who "has" to use it (since I don't have a choice :P and I feel bad for them because it makes me play better =P). I don't really consider it cheating, I just like the extra challenge of having to decipher notes close together.

Golfdish from Hell Dec 2, 2007 05:04 PM

Yeah, I don't consider it "cheating" either, but I understand why its' not the default either (considering how many people struggle moving from medium to hard for the speed). It screws me up a little on songs that require rapid-strumming, but helps for just about everything else...My hand actually hurts because I'm able to hit everything now. ;p

But yeah, from here on out, I'll ask whoever I'm playing if they use hyperspeed and if not...No big deal.

Luceid Dec 2, 2007 10:21 PM

Quick question; is it possible to use Hyperspeed in Hard? and if so, how to do it?

Fuck yes, you deserve props. :D

It's a code you have to enter in the cheats menu.

Also, Avalancha is awesome as hell.

You can pretty much use hyperspeed in any difficulty, though the scroll speed will pretty much differ with different difficulties. Hyperspeed 5 on Expert won't be nearly as fast as Hyperspeed 5 on Easy.

Here's the cheat. You just enter the cheat under the options menu, and make sure you strum the same time you push the frets as well.
