Here's my nightmare:
So around 12pm today, i got to the place where i was going to wait in line (a small chain called GamePlay). I was 10th in line, which is okay i guess~ Around 5pm they get a call and the manager comes out and explains to everyone that they might not GET any PS3s for the launch... Thinking about how cold it was, and how hungry i was for some decent Soon Tofu i thought to myself- "Screw this"... And so i left the line. It was supposed to be a good day today... but... I'll get it later, it's not worth the trouble (there was almost a fight in line~). Good luck to anyone else and have fun gaming. |
I'm starting to wonder if it's even worth the stress really. I keep trying to figure out stores I can go to that are sorta undermined in my area when it comes to things like these and all I could think of... was like... Sears.
|
Campers, stores are getting robbed of PS3s and money for PS3s all across america. As long as people aren't getting hurt, I'm loving it. Nothing like some nerd waiting outside for 3 days and not being able to get one.
Haha, suckers. I know, I'm an asshole. |
Then there are the stories to come. If there are folks bold enough to rob stores for their stocks what's to stop them from following folks home and robbing them as they get out of their cars? If I were getting one I'd take an odd ass route back home; one that includes expressways and back alleys. The thing about it is that people only want it because it's new. I don't see any release games that reach out and grab my interest.
It's not worth the trouble to me, but it isn't my time, and it isn't my money. |

well, I will enjoy putting my 2 cents in here. firstly, I would love to get the PS3, however, I also firmly believe that it's worth waiting for. I can see it now, some guy who's camped out for 3 weeks to get a game system. "Yeah! I got the first one!" congratulations, jackass, you wasted 3 weeks of your life to bar yourself away from life. and friends and family, because you're going to be facinated by a game system. now, don't take that to heart, cause I would buy one, just not right away. and there's another reason: Son'y history of Playstation first releases
to explain: when the playstation 1 first got released, the first 2 or 3 million units got recalled due to overheating caused by a faulty fan. the PS2 got released and recalled due to the battery wearing out quick. so really, what makes these first million units or so not going to have bugs in them? then these people who spent all the time waiting to get one, and going to be equally pissed off for "I spent all this money and I want quality" it's simple logic really. now, I'm not bashing the people on this, cause hey, everyone has their own path to follow, I don't judge. and I don't bash the system, hey it looks great and I would enjoy getting one myself, but I can wait on it too, especially when there are more needful things for my money right now, like completing the basement of my house so it can be enjoyed by our guests and ourselves, instead of just something for myself |
Not to mention the launch titles for the system don't look that great. I'll stick with the Wii until the PS3 bugs and price comes down.
|
yeah, but the Wii apparently requires that you make larger movements, most hardcore gamers won't like that
|
*plays fishing game in Zelda* here fishy fishy fishy! Ow my elbow! Screw this, I am getting a PS3.

Newspaper Article: 1 Shot in Conn. Playstation Waiting Line
in Putnam, Conn. Two armed thugs tried to rob of line of people waiting to buy the new Playstation 3 gaming console early Friday and shot one who refused to give up the money, authorities said. The two confronted a "bunch of people who were in line" outside a Wal-Mart store shortly after 3 a.m. and demanded money, said Lt. J. Paul Vance, a spokesman for the state police. The new Sony consoles are selling for around $500 to $600. "One of the patron's resisted. That patron was shot," Vance said. He said the two gunmen fled, and the victim was taken to University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. There was no immediate word on the victim's condition. Vance said police were searching for the suspects. Short supplies of the PS3 and strong demand led to lines of buyers, some waiting for days, outside stores across the country. In Palmdale, Calif., authorities shut down a Super Wal-Mart after some shoppers got rowdy late Wednesday. In West Bend, Wis., a 19-year-old man was injured when he ran into a pole racing with 50 others for one of 10 spots outside a Wal-Mart. A Best Buy in Boston, aware it had only 140 of the consoles, got smart _ employees gave out tickets to the first 140 people in line so everyone could go home. I knew it was gonna only be a matter of time |

Right now it's 30 minutes to 8 o'clock my time. I went to bed at 10 pm last night, got up about 30 minutes ago and feel great. I honestly don't think I could have had the same feeling sleeping out in the cold like it is in Canada. I wonder if right now those I saw yesterday in sleeping bags still have the same excitement as they had when they first started lining up. Man, such a long wait for them. =/
Well, I've NEVER slept on the streets for anything, and I just can't see myself doing it no matter if it's the Wii 3, Playstation 8, Xbox 1080, or whatever the hell it throws my way. But all I can say for sure is the hands on the clock in side the stores must be CRAWLING at the slowest pace possible. SOLDIER, that's the 20 GB one, FAIL. Ha! It's not like I didn't know, after talking to you before hand :tpg: |
Congrats Soldier, I'm anxious to hear your impressions, and others too for that matter. When you take a break sometime .__.
Seriously, almost every other forum is a bashing troll fest right now. Quote:

You were actually in that intense action packed deadly thrill ride of a crowd outside the store and lived to tell the tale? You must write a book. =o

I have it I have it I have it! XD
IT'S A PLAYSTATION THREEEEEEEE!!!! *pump his punch in the air like a crazy boy* *cough *cough* well seriously the thing is HUGE!!! XD but so beautiful XD lol well I didn't play much on it I just finish configuring my wireless connection and I'm already download the first software update XD and my EBgames was giving a free blu-ray disk too (not the one that come in the box, another one) and I got "the Fifth Element" sweet XD I'll be back with more new ^^ (god the remote is even lighter than I though it would be XD) |
Grats on being the second NA owner on GFF (that's posted, anyway). ;)
Right now the system is downloading the update file. I'm just glad that it works (I had some trouble figuring out how to turn it on; I found the little button, and it lit up before my finger even touched it. neat). 28% right now. http://www.penny-arcade.com/images/2006/20061117.jpg |

heh heh... could not resist. |
WHY
Why is it comin later to Europe, than the other countrys?!?!?!?!?
|
Ahaha. Treasure it? Come on now. PORTS ARE FUN.
Oh well, unless eBay prices drop off there is no way that keeping this thing to play Tony Hawk and EA Sports titles is going to be worth the price of admission. Honestly now. The games available right this second are making me not want to keep this thing. You guys have the next 5 posts to convince me to not sell it. (I'll be making another line waiting entry shortly. 32 hours is FUN.) |

Glad the Penny Arcade sword cuts both ways... ;) I really enjoyed reading the news post accompaning this comic, as it took the words right of my mouth regarding the BIG game franchises that will hit the system SOME day. Any FF or MGS fanboy who pays 600 bucks now, for the first (apparently flawed) edition of the console and then waits a year or so for the titles he's made this purchase for ... I don't know, I think that's pretty detached to say the least. |
Just finished setting up my Playstation Store account. Took a long while inputting all my information without a usb keyboard (which I could hook up, but I didn't want to spend too much time figuring out how to install new accessories). Setting up my IP address was ridiculously easy though.
I couldn't resist, so I'm downloading the Motorstorm demo right now. 7% done. Quote:
Speaking of which, I believe the games will follow the same pattern that the PS2 did, with the first stellar titles hitting around March (Motorstorm), to the really good games hitting summer (DMC4, White Knight Story), and then the first true next gen game around fall or winter (MGS4). |
so apparently a friennd of mine works at a video game store and they got NO ps3s. :o people who already reserved one are shit-out-of-luck, and will get one later of course, but still...after the release date. D:
|
Also, I can't wait to see what comes out of the "Other OS Install" feature. QJ.net has a link to a downloadable DVD of Linux, but they mentioned to be cautious with the download. I'll wait until some brave soul gives it a try before I start downloading things into my new system.
