Well, it only makes sense as these commercials were aired in Japan. It reads "mereruna", though I couldn't tell you what it means since I don't know a lot of Japanese. I imagine it will be translated to something like "Stay Dry" (or whatever) since Nintendo of America has never left Japanese in localized games.

- At the Pokemon Stage where Groudon Appears, the player controlling Squirtle has the name "zenigame".
This is the only time in the commercial that a name different from the default appears. Its significance is unknown.
"Zenigame" is what Squirtle is originally called in the Japanese versions of Pokémon games.

- As with Melee, the Pokemon Gym Stage shows a video of the character on a screen in the background.
Don't you mean Pokémon Stadium? :P

Quote:

- Oddly, it shows all three of the Trainer's pokemon on the stage at the same time, following Yoshi. This probably was done specifically for the commercial, unless the ability to have all three of them on the stage at once is possible. While this is shown as true for the Final Smash, what they were doing right now seemed different.
You're thinking about this way too much. It's most likely just three people playing as the Pokémon Trainer, each with a different Pokémon out. The other person is playing as Yoshi.

As far as the Chaos emerald goes, I looked all over the second commercial but I couldn't find it.
Yeah, I couldn't find it either. I tried pausing right at the start of where the Lylat Cruise was being shown in the second video. But either I wasn't fast enough or the guy that mentioned it was seeing things.

Well, to nitpick, there IS the option of using Japanese characters in Smash Bros Melee, along with the Pokemon Games IIRC.

Hmm, seems odd they would have that specific name in Japanese while you have ICECLIMBER and MARIO, etc., in English.

Gym, Stadium, same difference.

Well now it makes perfect sense. I guess I was trying to see something
more then was there, because it struck me as odd. (It stood out).

That reminds me, I forgot to mention this, but I looked through the other two trailers for the parts that featured that stage and I STILL couldn't find anything. A screenshot from whoever mention that would be helpful.

On the second time, it appears to be a Chaos Emerald. AND I'm thinking that this has a Play with Super Sonic. Or it could be a brand new Item totally (It's very apparent 5 seconds in). With the Dragoon in play, I wouldn't be surprised to see the chaos Emeralds being brought into play.

The only thing I can see that would even look close to a chaos emerald shape would be in the first video.

But thats the fan

On the right is a Fan, on the left is Lip's Stick (Which when struck onto an opponent, causes a small flower to grow on their head).

Dekoa Jan 6, 2008 10:57 PM

Hmmm... Your right, it is the Fan. I could have sworn that it Looked like a Chaos Emerald for a second.

Got some updates for you guys :)

January 7th, 2008
Item of Monday: Melee Stages - 2

Yoshi's Island
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stage...21_080107a.jpg

The steep slopes on either side are its defining characteristic.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stage...21_080107b.jpg

That central platform screams "accident!"

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stage...21_080107c.jpg

Corneria

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stage...21_080107d.jpg

Battle atop the Great Fox!

Onett
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stage...21_080107e.jpg

The offensive and defensive struggles on the buildings of Onett return!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stage...21_080107f.jpg

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Watch out for cars.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stage...21_080107f.jpg

Brinstar

It’s the dreaded, legendary ocean of acid!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stage...21_080107g.jpg

The rising and falling ocean of acid changes the field of play greatly

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stage...21_080107h.jpg

Rainbow Ride

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stage...21_080107i.jpg

Tour the course in this forced scrolling stage.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stage...21_080107j.jpg

The boat sinks mid-trip and you embark on a roundabout tour!

This is amazing! Is this a lavish feast or what? I can tell you that for everyone working on this game, the amount of content has been surprising to say the least.

KCJ506 Jan 7, 2008 02:55 AM

Bah to Rainbow Cruise. I could careless about that stage and I never was a fan of the music.

With Hyrule Temple, Onett, Yoshi's Island, Corneria, Brinstar, and Rainbow Cruise confirmed, that puts a lot of danger (consider them out) onto Great Bay (good riddance), Fourside, Yoshi's Story (good riddance), Brinstar Depths(bummer), and Peach's Castle (bummer).

Zeta26 Jan 7, 2008 02:59 AM

Well, the only stage that seems to be of interest to me from these stages was Corneria and Venom (that is if Venom also gets profiled as well).

Chaotic Jan 7, 2008 03:53 AM

Corneria is the only stage I really like out of that group. Otherwise, I'm kinda pissed that they didn't surprise us more with the update today.

A new year should've started out with a bang. This update is only lighting the match. :(

And with Onett's return to the Brawl, wouldn't that kind of hint that Ness is still coming back for reasons that his game is still in here?

You do realize the game is coming out this month, right? I don't think they'll be giving us any huge spoilers any time soon. (Then again, I might be proven wrong...)

Chaotic Jan 7, 2008 05:24 AM

At least one character update, of any kind, would be nice.

The news of Ness, Falcon, Falco, Jigglypuff, and for god's sake, Luigi would do that website some justice.

trackjacket Jan 7, 2008 05:39 AM

Well, the 200th update is coming up this week, so it's possible they'll have something of interest then. The 100th update was the confirmation of Wi-Fi support, though I think it may have just been a coincidence.

Not that today's update was bad, I'm glad to see other Melee stages returning, but it'd be really nice if some of the original Smash Bros. stages were remade.

Krelian Jan 7, 2008 05:59 AM

wait so how many metroid stages do we have now

They still need to make a Metroid stage where you have to escape the spaceship/planet in 5 minutes or whatever. To anyone who's never played a Metroid game before that plays Brawl they're going to think that all Samus ever does is spelunk inside of volcanoes. It's like she's the fucking opposite of the Ice Climbers.

3 So far. The Frigate Orpheon, Brinstar (which's today's update) & Norfair.

Chaotic Jan 7, 2008 11:35 AM

It's five if you include the SSB version of Brinstar and Depths.

SuperSonic Jan 7, 2008 12:55 PM

Yoshi's Island - Eh, it's the best version of the Yoshi stages from the previous Smash games so welcome back. Hope it comes with the SMB3 music.

Corneria - Meh, I never liked the Fox levels in Smash. You were always battling on top of Great Fox which I guess is the only way they can classify Fox levels from other levels.

Onett - Never having played an Earthbound series title, this stage has been alright. I love seeing the cars smash my opponent and then that charcter ricochets off a house and off screen. Classic.

Brinstar - Fucking A, Brinstar is back. It's also safe to say that the awesome rock track is back as well. It is definitely one of my favorite levels from Melee. Nice move, Sakurai.

Rainbow Ride - Ugh...no, just no. Poke Floats is awesome, but this one I don't like so much.

So in addition to those, we have Hyrule Temple returning as well. That's a pretty good selection of stages, we're up to 25 that have been confirmed. Now they could spoil us and bring back Mute City, Super Flat Zone, and Poke Floats. XD

Oh man, I went back to the Hyrule Temple map and listened to the music they came up with it that has Great Temple in the beginning and then goes off to the Temple music I love so damn much. That's something else I'm excited about in this game, the music. February 10th can't get here soon enough, dammit.

KCJ506 Jan 7, 2008 02:03 PM

From what I read at smashboards Sakurai is bringing back one stage from each major franchise. I can see Fountain Of Dreams being one of them. I'm hoping Saffron City and Big Blue also return.

As for new stages this is what I would like

Mushroom Kingdom 3
Bowser's Castle
Luigi's Mansion
Any of the Mario Galaxy levels
Float Islands
Casino Night Zone

Here's the music I'm hoping for also

Boss Battle from SMB3

I'll be lucky if even a quarter of these get in.

Kimchi Jan 7, 2008 08:28 PM

Is it me, or is this game still not able to be preordered?

Sakabadger Jan 7, 2008 08:53 PM

It's just you.

Where are you preordering from, anyway? As far as I know, places like Gamestop, Toys R Us or Amazon have been accepting preorders just fine.

wvlfpvp Jan 7, 2008 08:56 PM

Well you never know they could have some alternate music like they did for some of the stages in Melee.

Squib Jan 8, 2008 01:16 AM

Man, I understand that more doesn't always equal better, but I was hoping they'd significantly increase the number of characters for Brawl. I'm not a hardcore smash player and just play with friends and it gets boring after a little bit when you run out of characters to play. Still looks to be shaping up well though.
