We could lock the thread and make a fucking NOTHER one for those of us who don't want spoilers.

SuperSonic Dec 29, 2007 10:08 PM

When would you open up the new thread and what rules would you post on there?

wvlfpvp Dec 29, 2007 10:20 PM

No, I mean we could stop threading, those of us who want no spoilers. The new thread would be SOLELY for Jappanneessee folks and those who import.

RacinReaver Dec 29, 2007 10:22 PM

If you don't want spoilers then why were you reading this thread in the first place.

wvlfpvp Dec 29, 2007 10:24 PM

because this is sanctioned spoilers not HEY IT'S THE INTERNET LET'S TELL EVERYONE EVERY SINGLE FUCKING THING ABOUT THE GAME THAT THE CREATORS HAVE AT LEAST ATTEMPTED TO KEEP SECRET.

Sacred X Dec 29, 2007 11:31 PM

Locking this thread and making another one? That's pointless. If you want to avoid spoilers, just avoid the thread entirely; it would have been locked anyway.

If you don't have enough will power to stop checking this thread, you won't have enough will power to prevent checking the new thread/Wikipedia/GameFAQs.

FatsDomino Dec 30, 2007 04:27 AM

Yeah, fuck the spoilers shit. You know what you're getting into when visiting a thread that's all about updates and news by now. If you guys feel like using spoiler tags that's cool but I don't want to hear any complaints over spoilers. Better yet just avoid going to certain threads if you don't want to be spoiled. I've done that even when they're still in my user cp.

But hey if you all want to create a separate thread the day Brawl comes out in Japan where you can continue blind speculation about whether Master Chief and Q-bert will have stickers you can earn and such then you have my blessing.

Lukage Dec 30, 2007 06:07 PM

There's no avoiding it. If you managed to avoid everyone when trying not to hear Harry Potter spoilers, do whatever it is you did there. Otherwise, shut up and play the game.

Zeta26 Jan 1, 2008 10:36 PM

With that aside. Did anyone catch the January 2008 issue of Future's N.P magazine. Which it also features Super Smash Bros. Brawl? Though, I suppose with other magazines; Game Informer, EGM. That the publication also mentions items that we've known thus far ^^;

Items like;
- Menu Updates
- Wi-Fi Battles
- Characters etc...

Identity Crisis Jan 1, 2008 10:59 PM

I already saw the January Nintendo Power. There wasn't anything particularly interesting in the Brawl section, but I wasn't exactly anticipating anything groundbreaking in the first place anyway. If the Smash Dojo site doesn't have the information available, odds are Nintendo Power won't either.

Zeta26 Jan 2, 2008 04:00 PM

Yeah, I'd suspect it as much. Heck, even when the game's out to stores. The game magazine's would be kind of late to report it as well. Though, thanks to QJ, IGN & GameTrailers. They update as soon as the Smash Dojo site gets updated.

Wii Live » Blog Archive » More Brawl Jump Festa Demo Info Revealed!

- New Pokeball Pokemon: Metagross (hovers above the ground and then stabs it, causing an earthquake), Onix (returns from the 64 version and I assume does the same thing), Garchomp, Castform, Regigigas (starts out slow and then turns red, and then uses what is thought to be Crush Grip), Gardevoir (we knew about Gardevoir from E for All)
- New Assist Trophies: Duster from the Mother games, Rosalina from Super Mario Galaxy (throws out star pieces for a few seconds, which heal you. A Luma also comes out with her), Sothe from the Fire Emblem series, Pegasus Knight from the Fire Emblem series (this is rumored, we still don’t know if it’s true or not), as well as Lakitu and Samurai Goroh (which we knew already)
- New Items: Sandbag, Soccer ball (it turns to fire when you kick it and it can’t be countered or caught), Timer (slows down your opponents, but sometimes it will slow you down instead)
- Both Pokemon Trainer and Pit say something when they do their Final Smashes. Pokemon Trainer says, “Ikuzo! Sanmittai!” which was on the DOJO in his Final Smash update, so we can expect him to say “Take That! Triple Finish!” in the english version.
- Wario’s techniques come out slow, but powerful
- They got some of this information from videos of characters playing, like videos of Pokemon Trainer, Lucas, Snake, Zelda, and more.
- One of Snake’s attacks is a remote mine

Zeta26 Jan 3, 2008 03:54 PM

Interesting, so we get another character from Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn and POR. Still, I wish it were the latter; Boyd, he's my most fav FE character. Or at least have Sothe as a New Comer.

I hope Nintendo is just hiding a whole slew of characters from us because if theres only 24...thats going to be very very boring...

The above is proof that game developers have the most thankless job in the world.

I don't know if you're attacking or just making a comment but I'll just get defensive because I can.

24 characters would just be boring. I mean sure there are newer characters but its taking a step back from Melee.

I mean there were a lot of crazy characters in Melee, Game and Watch, Mewtwo, Ganondorf, Captain Falcon.

Its like a huge party game so why not throw as many characters as they can in.

Quality over quantity, perhaps?

At any rate, we're pretty well assured that what's been revealed isn't the final roster. We KNOW Captain Falcon is in the game, and they haven't breathed a word about the man yet. No telling what else they're keeping under wraps.

Zeta26 Jan 3, 2008 11:07 PM

Well, anything still can happen between the 7th and until the game's inaugural launch; the 24th. Though, I'm not sure about the remaining roster. Because like Melee, we also may see a few come and a few go.

Wow, how selfish can you get? Judging a game as 'boring' because it has less then an arbitrary number of characters? I feel a bit insulted here as a prospective game designer (No I'm by no means one yet, but its my career path)

Of course, given that I am striving to reach that goal, I should know to expect this kind of Criticism. However, if someone said something like "Smash Bros Brawl needs to have a wide range of characters to add diversity, so that players have a good selection of styles to choose from in terms of fighting ability, more-so then what we've seen so far", then that would be a valid argument, and good input (If they were to expand upon that statement).

Saying a game is boring because it has less then X number of characters is NOT.

SuperSonic Jan 4, 2008 01:17 AM

I won't say it'll be boring, but I do hope there are more characters. I actually expect there to be more. Look at what was fitted into Melee, and that was only a 1.5GB disc. The graphics ARE improved this time around, however they have almost triple the space to work with.

Also, there are bound to be more levels than what has been announced thus far. However, if we knew the whole cast list and level selection then there wouldn't be much hidden goodies for us to find and that would kill the excitement level somewhat. It doesn't matter, I was 90% sure I knew I was going to get this game the moment it was announced.

This is essentially what I meant.

The one thing I always found interesting when playing with friends was that there were some who practiced with the same character like Link, Mario, Fox and Pikachu. Once Melee hit, there were the huge areas of characters and soon they played with Young Link, Dr. Mario, Falco and Pichu.

And then there were the different areas of characters for different experience levels. Characters like Mario, Luigi and Peach were easy to use and get used to for starting players. And then more advanced characters like Ice Climbers (because if you lost one you lost your up+B move) and Game and Watch since he was quite unpredictable.

And then different stat aspects where you had Pikachu and Pichu who were extremely quick. Then you had the powerhouses of Ganondorf, Bowser and DK where you had the strength but not a lot of speed. Then you had Zelda/Shiek where players could utilize both of the characters strengths.

((that and apparently I guess there were only 26 charas in Melee...seemed like more when I thought))

The one thing I don't want to see online is...

Spoiler:
millions of matches like me vs. Snake vs. Snake vs. Snake matches or me vs. Sonic vs. Sonic vs. Sonic matches

Dark Nation Jan 4, 2008 01:23 AM

Yeah, I guess I got a little worked up. I definitely want to see more characters, but it just ticked me off that you would say that the game would be boring if it had less then however many playable characters.
Well that's been cleared up.

Yeah, I just noticed I worded that incorrectly. No clue why I put provided in there. My bad, and fixed. Just so I'm keeping up, Brawl has confirmed 24 characters so far and Melee had 26. If Brawl ends up having around 60, that would be overkill.

Slash Jan 4, 2008 01:27 AM

Well, I don't know about you but I've always seen Smash Bros as more of a party game. So more characters would make it more interesting than just more one player modes.

SuperSonic Jan 4, 2008 01:34 AM

Well as long as they don't screw it up like Mortal Kombat: Armageddon did, then I wouldn't have a problem with it. However if you had to unlock a character by beating story mode with all of the characters, that's gonna take a long ass time with that many characters.
