He means in Japan, doofy. Brawl comes out in the US a little less than three weeks later on the 10th of February. Basically in that time all the secrets will be revealed which will be awesome and full of suck for those that want to discover everything but at the same time as the rest of the world. I do find it a bit unfair that a huge game which is all about unlockable content isn't getting a world-wide release date.

What happend with SSBM? I thought US found all secrets :(

FatsDomino Dec 28, 2007 02:28 PM

Melee came out a day shy of two weeks in the US after Japan. This was back in 2001 mind you. It's been six years and communication has improved and information travels a lot faster than it did then. It's not like it was as open waters as it was in 97 but the Internet has definitely made smaller since even 2001. Sure, it still depends on where you go but while most folks were scrambling for the US release most didn't even care about the Japanese release. You can be sure that come the day of release of Brawl all the secrets will be out within 2 days and most videogame forums will flare up with this news immediately. This kind of alertness wasn't nearly as much when Melee came out.

To illustrate the point, the Game Informer magazine published a lot of tid bits and secrets and general trivia and helpful stuff for Melee soon after it came out, and it was the first place that I found out about a lot of the stuff (I mean, No duh on unlockable characters, but other stuff was more elusive).

FatsDomino Dec 28, 2007 03:28 PM

Well that's only natural. Magazines and big websites all get copies prior to their release so they can review them prior or close to release and get out tips and stuff. It's been like that for years. I find reading about Brawl in magazines to be incredibly dull and sometimes infuriating because a lot of the opinions of gaming magazines are fucking stupid and also the Internet beats them to it by weeks and sometimes even months. One recently complained that 3 playable Kirby characters was too much and was bad for the game. Where was this guy when Melee came out with 5 playable Mario characters? Terrible fucking move let me tell you. =/

Kimchi Dec 28, 2007 03:32 PM

Well, you can't expect magazines such as EGM to print out new issues every week... yes their opinion sucks balls.

AcerBandit is right. I can gaurantee there will be full, or near full, disclosure on all of Brawl's secrets within a day or two of release. It's just going to be a matter of how quickly otaku can work through the game. And, I'm sure there'll be a near endless stream of new information the day it's released (not new characters, necessarily, but stages, assist trophies, trophies, stickers, boss fights in Subspace Emissary, etc.).

Also, games tend to go gold anywhere from 2 weeks to a month away from release. It's not really stretch to imagine that Super Smash Bros. Brawl has already gone gold, given just how immensely popular the series is.

Speaking of Brawl. I found an interesting fanvid. This' video's backed by a full orchestra and a choir singing in latin

Super Smash Bros. Brawl Message Board - Super Smash Bros. Brawl Forum - Super Smash Bros. Brawl Discussion

Appearently, quite a few people saw the message when he posted it. Probably a coincidence, but it's still interesting. I'm posting it here just so we can see if this was actually a leak or not after the game is released.

Normally, I wouldn't have believed it. But after hearing this update, which shocked the hell out of me, and hearing that this guy predicted it beforehand, I'm just going to side on those other sources to. If it turns out they are false, I won't be ashamed of my expectations/assumptions.

Predicting this update is just too big of a coincidence. People have said that it was simply a nice shot in the dark since you needed to collect 3 pieces in the game itself to activate. In my eyes, predicting:
1. The Dragoon
2. The 3-item requirement
3. The crosshair (which isn't even in Air Ride.)
Too much of a wild shot. The other assumptions also seem pretty reasonable.

Falco - This is something I wouldn't have expected too much, especially with that "no clone character" thing. But, I haven't really played any starfox games, so I'm unsure how unique they can make him.

Ganondorf - I would have expected that, especially since Link and Zelda are in their Twilight Princess models. Giving Ganon a new set of moves wouldn't be very difficult at all. Also this is just a personal assumption, but his Final Smash would seem pretty obvious if it's anything related to a transformation.

Captain Falcon - I was leaning towards it as he's one of the Original Smash Bros.

Lucario replacing Mewtwo - I don't know much about these "new" Pokemon, but I've recently found out Lucario had a movie based on him, so it's a fair assumption, if not a Pokeball. Either way I didn't expect to see Mewtwo returning, even though I enjoyed his appearence in Melee.

Ness returning - I was inbetween this. He was an Original Smash Bro, but Lucas seemed to be in the game with many similar attacks. It would seem kind of weird if they gave Ness a new set of attacks, but at the same time he's original and was always very unique.

Zelda/Shiek - Expected. The only doubt I had about Shiek was Zelda being in her Twilight Princess model. Since I didn't play Twilight Princess, I wouldn't quite know if my following assumption is true, but I wouldn't think Zelda would have shown off many new attacks to replace the Down-B for Shield. Unless they make her turn into Shiek as a Final Smash, similar to Zero Suit Samus, but that wouldn't make much sense.

Final Destination - Duh.

Although now that I re-read it, it's possible he leaked some info and added some rumors of his own. Either way, these are all things, other than the Dragoon, that I either was neutral with or expected anyway.

Dark Nation Dec 29, 2007 12:57 AM

For more character speculation, I wonder if they'll include the WW/PH LINK (Cel-shaded), or Paper Mario? If they included Doctor Mario previously, Paper Mario would be a possability, plus the move list would be closer to Game & Watch's style. (And on that note, an Assist Trophy of Fawul would be just... well probably not very assisting at all! lol ).

Edit: I meant the character Link, from the WW/PH Zelda Games.

Sacred X Dec 29, 2007 01:14 AM

I would only think Dr. Mario would be in it as an alternate costume, similar to Wario's situation. Paper Mario seems to be a much larger jump in comparison, and would be difficult to give him the same moves. Paper Mario doesn't seem to be uniquely popular enough compared to any other of the Mario series to have him become a completely unique character as well.

trackjacket Dec 29, 2007 02:52 AM

Why should Paper Mario need the same move-set as regular Mario? The two are different enough in their respective games (Super Mario and Paper Mario) that it would make sense. Problem is, I dunno what exactly would work for Paper Mario's move-set; though, I'm sure something could be arranged.

FatsDomino Dec 29, 2007 04:25 AM

If they could make Mr. Game & Watch they could definitely do Paper Mario. I do wonder if Wind Waker Link will replace Young Link though. They really could make him different enough from Twilight Princess Link. I just wonder how they'd work out the artstyle to mesh with Smash's.

The moveset was a reference to the alternate costume possibility. As his own character, we spark the same question involving what moves he could be given. Afterall, most of Mario's moves (Fireball, cape, jump attack) come from when he was still 2D. That leads me to believe Paper Mario would most likely pass at a clone at best. But clones in Brawl... doesn't sound too likely, does it?

Not the best use of logic there. You haven't actually played a Paper Mario game, have you?

Nope. I'm going to hope and assume from that statement there that he has a large amount of skills that can apply in Brawl. At the same time, I still don't see duplicates of the same character happening other than just costumes.

So, who says we lock this thread on the 24th so those of us who don't want everything spoiled can avoid the new SSBB thread until we have the game.

Why do that? Why not just avoid the thread all together?

wvlfpvp Dec 29, 2007 12:35 PM

So then I don't have it in my usercp

I'm waiting for Acer to weigh in like that time where I went to Canada to try to get you laid.

Kimchi Dec 29, 2007 03:15 PM

No updates till new year right? They better have updates that's worth the wait.

Conan-the-3rd Dec 29, 2007 06:00 PM

Honestly? The way the fanbase has been the last few weeks, I'd rather they didn't.

I meen, it's just cockteasing for me at this point, cuz I know full well that It'll be well into summer before my Scottish hands grace this game.

SuperSonic Dec 29, 2007 09:29 PM

I'll say it again: When the game comes out in Japan on the 24th, maybe we could mark that kind of information in spoiler tags?

Lizardcommando Dec 29, 2007 09:33 PM

Wouldn't it be best to just avoid this thread entirely? Someone is bound to forget to use the spoiler tag.
