Though I hate stuff like that, I mean how are supposed to know not to open the chests?
I know, what what the hell is that. Maybe if you could talk to one of the NPCs around Lowtown in a scripted scene, where he says "Oh I hear there's a way to get this awesome weapon, but you must not be so greedy with your treasure chests", would probably not help me that much, but gives me a *something* to work off of (lol never opening any chests). Or perhaps some mini puzzle you must read various scripts that are scattered, and then reveal the location of the chests. Whatever.

Shenlon Nov 8, 2006 09:54 PM

Which are the treasure chest which aren't suppose to be opened? Its bull that you have to basicly "know" not to open them.

Archadia had a mini game which I think was more enjoyable than the rest
Spoiler:
you have to communicate with the towns people and help them out with their problems in order to get what you want. I think if this was more extended through out more of the game then maybe it would have felt like the towns people were of more importance instead of just being there with worthless information. I just skip through most of them.

Just to clarify, are you saying that people should already know which to not open, or that it's basically next to impossible to know not to open up such treasures? Just checking. :kitsune:

+150 attack and that's all it does.

Spatula Nov 8, 2006 10:14 PM

+150 is quite a bit, I'm guessing it can dish out like 5000+ dmg plus per hit on regular enemies?

That was me. >.> I was around 25, but when I realized that everything was owning me, I decided to do the one on-screen character trick, and just get my ass out of there as fast as I could. XD

And yeah, I'm using the Zodiac Spear with Ashe, and she does 3000-4000 damage on most enemies at my level. Pretty good, I guess. :D

Spatula Nov 9, 2006 01:21 AM

I'm 31 hours and just saved at the first crystal before the Tomb of Raithwall.

Boss before that:
Do any of you think that the Garuda boss was bloody easy as hell? I mean, he didn't even put up a fight. A group of 10 sandpeople do more damage than that flying piece of fuck! I just kept zapping him with lightning and watched the beast bite the dust before I could say "DEMON WALL". Speaking of which, the demon wall(s) look scary ;__;

Sousuke Nov 9, 2006 02:03 AM

I have an item, actually... And I don't remember exactly where I found it.

Regarding above boss...:
Some kind of berry. I forgot the whole item name right now, but the description is something like 'A type of berry that Garuda hates', or something similar. And I'm guess it's totally useless now, since Garuda is long gone... I wonder what it does to Garuda. I used it on some other flying thing I came across, but nothing happened.

Spatula Nov 9, 2006 02:12 AM

Yes, you get that item from the following event.

Spoiler:
You have to speak with the moogle by the blue save crystal in Nam Yensa and he'll say a giant tortouse is attacking the sandpeople (still haven't even bothered learning their proper names), and kill it. Then you have to run back to the moogle and then run to the Refinery just across your current dungeon, then run back to the moogle. The sandperson was treated as a scumbag for having to beg for help, and was basically BURNED WITH FIRE, and what's left was the flower. You pick up the flower and toss it at the Garuda later on, LOL. TAKE MA FLOWER POWER.

Spoiler:
Yeah that boss was quite easy for me without the seed. I actually killed that monster they were after but I forgot to go back to the moogle. When I finally reached the entrance the merchant told me the axion was hard as hell and that the Yensa's had some weapon against it I went 'oh great I'm gonna get whooped'..but surpringly did not. Did the same as you, just spammed him with lightning/dark and he was down pretty quickly. I guess thunder was his elemental weakness as well.

Then again, 31 hours sounds pretty long to me for Tomb of Raithwall. Did you do some power levelling before this? That's probably why you could kill Garuda easily. I remember having a party of about level 18 when I faced Garuda.

jb1234 Nov 9, 2006 04:22 AM

31 hours at the Tomb of Raithwall? Yeesh... I think I was around 12 hours at that point.

Shenlon Nov 9, 2006 07:07 AM

I'm going at a slow pace too. I'm guessing he was busy with leveling and the hunts. I'm actually taking a short intermission from going any further in archadia since I wanna finish off some hunts in the board. So far I have around 50 hours and 300,000 steps

Musharraf Nov 9, 2006 07:20 AM

About 30 hours and 180,000 steps here and I just arrived at Phon Coast, I guess the time's pretty bad but, well, the counter didn't stop while I was away going to the store and stuff like that, so it's okay, I guess.

I am still a bit worried that three out of my six characters are heavily underleveled, my three main characters are all level 35 or 36, and they are level 14, 15. Oh well, I hope I will find some time to level them up as well.

Freelance Nov 9, 2006 07:21 AM

I'm clocking in at 25 hours in the Hennes Mines. I did spend some time levelling and chaining earlier so my time is inflated.

My team are all in the 23/22 range right now. My balancing act is paying off.

This is the first time I've seen an FF
Spoiler:
Tiamat
that looked more dinosaur than dragon.

Why are all the guest characters so bloody strong and damn useful? Ashe revives anyone who dies, Vossler's just very strong and Larsa's got hi-potions up the wazoo. Doesn't it make these parts of the game kinda easier? I say 'easier' because there are parts that still give me trouble even with guests in the party.

If you've always only needed 3 characters then thats cool. My characters are just about even but i always need all three when facing a boss cause I need backup especially when i fought the third esper, which I happened to find by chance.

this next spoiler doesn't really spoil the story just the order of some areas. Its just a tip if you plan on leveling ur characters.
Spoiler:

if you do plan on leveling them up then just wait until you reach the tichen uplands and plow through until you reach archadia, you can buy tippet's there for 5000gil which doubles your exp, so you can either train your weaker characters or give your main three an even stronger boost.
when you get that just go back to the uplands and start training, theres also an areas with serpents which drop quality hides almost all the time which you can sell for around 400gil. I've gatta warn you though, archadia is a long road ahead

Oh and btw, the tippet only works with the party thats actually in battle

Is it the one you can find if you proceed through the secret passage near
Spoiler:
Mosphoran Highwaste
?

I got killed within 10 seconds =/

Shenlon Nov 9, 2006 07:45 AM

No the one I found was during a hunt
Spoiler:
I dont remember the name of the place but its the south exit of the dalmasca wastelands

I;ll see if I go looking for that one though ^^

kharaalaik Nov 9, 2006 08:13 AM

Another easy levelling/LP spot is in teh beginning of the forest. (dunno how to do the spoiler tag so i wont name anything in detail)

this spot is better than the rest because of the amount of gil u can get and the exp/LP you get

Begin by entering the forest from the plains, and right when u enter u get 3/4 panthers. then on the beginning of the left and right paths u get 2-3 each time. In total you have a minimum of 7 each time. Have one of your characters have a gambit set for steal, and the other characters attack like mad and heal. Make sure you stay in the beginning of the two bends. The right and left ones just before u can make out another path, further down are other monsters and youll break your chain. Make sure ur a pretty high level too, otherwise you get PWNT (at least 25/27) and your attacks are hitting 500/600.

Each panther gives you ~200 exp, and one LP, and you fight about 7-9 each time. Plus about 2 Coehlr(sp?) pelts each so you can rack in the money. They sell about 430 each.

To get all of them back, exit the forest to the plain. Go one screen down from the save point. Turn around and go back in, and there they are waiting for you. Keep doing this until you have 99 pelts.

p.s. after you get past 60/70 you start getting some quality pelts, not alot, but maybe one for every 5 or so you kill. Those sell for 700 each.

p.p.s I made over 53 thousand just farming the panthers. (~45000 from pelts, another ~ 8 from storm magicites they drop also

WHOO, long post but its worth it:biggrin:

TheXeno Nov 9, 2006 10:26 AM

Farming is alright early in the game, but I found it more effective progressing through the story to get better armor even though one can be short on cash. The story bosses are pathetic compared to the Summons have had to fight. Anyway that whole not opening certain treasure chests thing is pretty stupid for the Zodiac spear. I didn't get any warning or nothing, oh well I doubt I will need it. I"v looked through some of the faqs at gamefaqs and yet I can't find anything about all the "uber" weapons.

Again I'm taking this VERY slowly, and not bothe rushing, so yes, I did quite a bit of levelling up and stuff, running back and forth.

kupomog Nov 9, 2006 11:05 AM

I'm at about 30 hours now and I'm just heading to the Ozmone Plains for the first time. I've spent several hours leveling up (lots of battle chaining going on), doing available sidequests (hunts mainly), and just exploring/completing maps and killing monsters for sage knowledge. Character levels range from 22-24 right now. I went to the Highwaste land in the Estersands...killed some of those wolfy things and then got chased by a Saurian and ambushed by 3 more wolfies. Near murder. So I ran off with my tail between my legs. Went back to Garamsythe for a hunt...ambushed by Malboro Kings, party was wiped out. Yeah, I think I'll just get on with the story instead of this for now >.<

Ha, i just loaded my save and im EXACTLY at 12:00 at the save point in Ogir-Yensa.

Vemp Nov 9, 2006 05:56 PM

I finished the game with all of my characters at lvl 50, I'm doing the sideqests (hunts, espers, etc.), I guess this will take some more time since I feel there's still a lot to do. Gametime clocking at 79 hrs. now.

Oh, I played the leaked version.

Freelance Nov 9, 2006 08:43 PM

SPOILERS. Am at Golmore Jungle or whatever the hell it's called.

Spoiler:
I defeated Tiamat (it was a lot easier this time around for some reason) but now I ran into the Elder Wyrm and am getting my ass royally kicked. Much much harder than Tiamat. Got any good gambits to use against this guy? Help!
