"Do you come with the system?"

"Oh, you." (giggle)

They are right about the heat. The room I sat in turned into a furnace, but it really is quite. And I love the startup sound. Easily the best sound ever.

The controller doesn't feel flimsy, but is quite comfortable to fling around the room.

Repeat ad nauseum and you get the comments thread for the photos over on Eurogamer.

Wow, then the Xbox 360 sets houses on fire, eh?

Hmm, Gamespot demonstrates the PS3's backwards compatibility with Battle Arena Toshinden of all things. Oh, skip to about 13:00 or 14:00 if that's all you want to see.

Cobalt Katze Oct 28, 2006 01:26 PM

Yeah I was gonna say, I can excuse the repetition of the PS3 photos if only for the girl holding them :p

The one with the reflected floorboards was also pretty artsy.

DragoonKain Oct 28, 2006 04:00 PM

My local Toys R Us said it would be first come first serve. I know what that means, but I have no idea how that applies to the situation. Does that eliminate lines? I don't get it.

Because the lady told me they did that so people didn't have to line up outside, but doesn't first come first serve mean that people WILL line up outside? I'm confused.

and I just said that, because I think more ps3 picture is a little pointless now XD we all know how it will look XD only thing that was interesting, was the shot from the side that is translucent...

but I can understand why you posted those just for the girl >.> XD

god just 3 more week ; ;

Casaubon Oct 28, 2006 09:34 PM

God, the lines that are around Toys R Us around here are fucking insane. I seen a few guys lined up at around noon, and figured they were just losers. Later on I went to another Toys R Us and there was at least 20 people there, with sleeping bags, and tents and everything. This is just ridiculous, anyone know how many units they are gonna get in?

Slayer X Oct 28, 2006 10:22 PM

Huh??? People are already lineing up at stores around where you live? That seems a bit outrageous to believe.

Inhert Oct 28, 2006 11:36 PM

I think it's for pre-order of toy R us not the actual launch >.<

DragoonKain Oct 29, 2006 02:07 AM

Looosers. Drive by and throw a bucket of water on them for a 3 am wake-up call.

Thats what a buddy and me were going to do, but we decided against it. Felt a little too old for that stuff, but man it would've been a good one. It's pretty damn cold out here as it is. It is the perfect prank. Not weak but not too over the top either.

It's gonna happen when the Best Buy camp outs are in full force though. Belieeeeeeeeeve that.

Perfect prank? More like you're just an asshole. Why would you do that? People have a really good chance of getting sick and you would be making their lives miserable for no reason.

Slayer X Oct 29, 2006 11:57 AM

Well if he wanted to be the first in line then it would probably work. I don't condone it, however that doesn't change the fact that it would probably work, nor does it change that it would make you an asshole as Mucknuggle said.

DragoonKain Oct 30, 2006 12:45 AM

Technically all pranks make you an asshole. But like I said I didn't do it. If I did it with Best Buy it would be a super soaker.

CloudNine Oct 30, 2006 01:03 AM

So the guy who is too busy to wait in line has time to drive by the line and shoot people with water when the temperature is below freezing? Green paint from your football party sink in too much?

I wonder, which one is actually the pathetic one: you or the one in line?

Soldier Oct 30, 2006 01:27 AM

By all means, be a dick. Then maybe we'll get something like this again.

I was actually being facetious, but it would be funny. At least IMO. If there was a YT video of someone driving by campers with a super soaker then I think a lot of people would get a good laugh.

BTW driving and shooting people with water takes about 10 minutes and camping takes about 20 hours. So I don't see the whole time relation there.

I'm too old for that kinda stuff though. I won't be soaking anyone with water believe me. Just being facetious.

Wow, now this is getting a little out of hand:

Sony Misses PS3 Shipping Targets
Japan gets even fewer units.

by Anoop Gantayat
October 30, 2006 - What's worse than 100,000 units at launch? How about 80,000? The Nikkei Keizai Shimbun morning edition reports today that due to component shortages, Sony will have only 80,000 units ready for the PS3's 11/11 Japanese launch. This cuts back by a fifth the initial launch target of 100,000.

The lack of digits in that number is even more staggering when you consider that the PS2 sold out of nearly a million units when it launched back in March of 2000.

Having lived through a few weeks of attempting to obtain a PS3 pre-order, we're not too surprised by the lowered shipping numbers. Allocations disappeared quickly at online retailers that were brave enough to start pre-order programs. The online arm of media retailer Tsutaya ran out of units in 6 minutes according to Nikkei (it felt more like 1 minute to us).

Major electronics chains like Yodobashi Camera won't be taking pre-orders, Nikkei reports, so there's only one option left: line up the day before launch. Although with fewer units to go around, we're considering getting in line starting from the week prior.
Heh, this could get out of hand in Tokyo. I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing'll happen to the NA release.

Also Hori might be able to conjure up a rumbling controller:

Hori Considering Rumble Controller
The Sixaxis controller could shake after all.

by Anoop Gantayat
October 27, 2006 - The latest issue of Famitsu PS2 has a short Q&A session with Hori, maker of some of the finest officially-licensed PlayStation 2 peripherals. The biggest bit from the interview concerns a piece of technology that's missing from Sony's new Sixaxis controller: rumble.

Asked if Hori was considering a peripheral to give PS3 players the gift of shake, the representative stated, "We have some ideas. However, we'd need cooperation from software makers."

Let's hope some third parties are willing to make their games compatible with a non-standard rumble accessory.

Hori has three PS3 related items due for release at the Japanese launch. A multi card reader/writer, compatible with Memory Stick, SD, Compact Flash and a variety of other cards, will retail for 2,604 yen. Hori will also release a set of SD cards in 256 MB (2,880 yen), 512 MB (3,980 yen) and 1 Gigabyte (6,780 yen) flavors.

None of these products are strictly for the PS3 -- in fact, they don't even contain the PS3 logo. But Hori is a big player in the peripheral business, so we expect true peripherals to appear in the not-so-distant future. And hopefully, some of them will bring rumble back to PlayStation gaming.

"Get back to Hot Topic you bitch!"

AWSOME!

Seriously, line heckling is idiotic. How are you any better than the "no life losers in line" when you resort to messing with them for amusement? You have nothing else happening? That bored?

Anyway, with all the lines formed for the pre-orders, I wonder what the lines for the actual launch are gonna be like. Hectic times are definately coming up.

DragoonKain Oct 31, 2006 04:34 AM

Well the big difference is, it won't take that long to mess with campers. It would only take a little bit of a drive and most likely if I were to do something like that, it would be on the way from or to something. Like a movie. But like I said before, I'm not going to do it. Pranks aren't really my thing anymore.

espressivo Nov 2, 2006 03:59 PM

What ever happened to the Best Buy PS3 kiosks? I'm guessing that was just a rumor since I haven't seen any PS3 kiosks anywhere in my area. Hopefully next week, we get to try out the ps3.
We got two weeks to go till launch!

Soldier Nov 2, 2006 04:07 PM

It wasn't a rumor, it was likely just delayed. The kiosks just finished setting up in Japan, so I guess they should be up here soon. Of course that's pretty irrelavent now, since the system's less than a month away. And personally I'm surprised about that. Feels so close now.

Also, OPM gave Resistence a 9. Looks like this is the launch game to get.

map car man words telling me to do things Nov 2, 2006 05:44 PM

I just remembered a minor detail about the XMB I noticed last time I played Resistance. I don't know if any other site's reported on this and I've no photos to show at the moment, so you'll have to take my word for it for now.

Not only does the XMB background color change depending on the selected month like on the PSP (I changed the date in order to get a nicer color for some of the later photos), but time of day also affects this. The later the system clock gets, the darker the XMB will look, with noon being the brightest.

When I booted up the PS3 around 8PM, I immediately wondered who had changed the date again because the background color was so different, till I realized it was meant to look like it's evening since it was late. As you change the time to midnight, the background color goes all nocturnal on you and the atmosphere is extremely gloomy.

It's a neat little detail I guess, but I'd rather my midnight playings be accompanied by more cheery colors rather than my whole console basically screaming "IT'S LATE, GO TO BED ALREADY".

Soldier Nov 2, 2006 05:56 PM

That's pretty darn cool. It's also probably something you can adjust anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem. I'm likely just going to use custom wallpapers.

Do you know whether you can add saved music to loop during the menu (a menu theme, as it were)?

map car man words telling me to do things Nov 2, 2006 06:03 PM

Not that I know of, though the firmware we had was pretty old in order to run the TGS code. I doubt it'll be that customisable, though. I do hope you will be able to put the music player to play in the background while you surf the web or look at photos. That's something I wish they'd get around to fixing on the PSP.

Oh and those videos I promised, I couldn't get around to hosting them at the blog, so I'm hosting them on GFF instead.

http://staff.gamingforce.com/qwarky/PS3_beep.avi
http://staff.gamingforce.com/qwarky/PS3_bootup.avi

If you happen to spread these around, please link to my blog, even though (or especially because) the videos aren't watermarked (I lack the equipment for that). Acer raises up a good point. Don't be a dick and spread these around, they're a GFF exclusive till I get them up at the blog server.

FatsDomino Nov 2, 2006 06:17 PM

Oh Qwarky, I'm totally gonna blame you if we suddenly run out of bandwidth or something stupid like that when those videos get hotlinked on some big newssite. >=|
