the controls are fine, they take literally one run through a course to get used to them. I can't really call that a steep learning curve. I am glad the game is hard, I bet all the weeping pussies that whine about the difficulty could never dream of beating contra 3 on hard mode without cheating, or Axelay, or raystorm.

SuperSonic Feb 23, 2007 01:11 AM

Just wondering, how long did it take you guys to get used to the controls? Or have you even gotten used to them yet?

Edit: Well garth posted about the same time I did so whoops. Question answered.

Excite Truck is a good intro game for it. That said, I understood it easily.

This is the best looking Wii game so far, and I'm not just overlooking anything. Yeah, the music is comically bad, but who cares? From game analysts, I've come to agree on the music part and one other thing: the lack of open levels. Yeah some of the missions are different, but they're the same level. As far as the camera goes in this 3D game, it's really great. You end up playing as sonic from every angle short of an upskirt camera shot. Half the time the camera is moving and you think it's a cinematic, but you've got the control. The transitions in these camera angles is what really impresses me about the game. The handling yeah, it's tough, but the game itself is tough, so don't blame it on the controls. Have fun completing this game. And by which, I mean Castlevania complete. Gold rank on all of them, all the fire souls, etc. I struggle for bronze on most of them, so enjoy a real challenge.

As far as I can tell, you use two buttons in the game, short of the menu controls. Allowing a Wii title to do this is really a plus, and I'm impressed. I've played through the first world and have started the second and I'm looking forward to the gameplay content. If you're good with Excite Truck, this won't be as scary as it seems. Oh, and fuck the minigames, get Mario Party.

You hear the Crush 40 remix of His World and they did a MUCH better job than those other guys.

Right off the bat, hats off to Sonic Team for allowing me to change the voices to Japanese with English subtitles so I don't have to put up with 4Kids.

I also like the Crash 40 remix cept I didnt' like the change the melody of the chorus. I like the original melody better.

And thank f-ing Christ for Japanese voices options, if some moron decided to change it for the Aussie release, so help me GOD someone will die, I don't wanna to deal with 4Kids BS.

At least they have Mike Pollock.

I'm no longer being sarcastic about Sonic, I'm being so about SuperSonic

Here's my two cents, after playing through the Prologue and a few levels in the first world:

Music: I'm a sucker for cheesy music, especially guitar riffs, so I like what I'm hearing. It's so over the top bad, it's actually enjoyable.

Voice Acting: Sucks. I think I'll try Japanese voices tonight.

Gameplay: Controls take some getting used to, but overall, it's good. Tilting the Wiimote to move side to side is intuitive, although a little slow when you're used to Excite Truck. Dashing isn't just "push the wiimote forward" as the tutorial would have you believe; at least for me, I had to flick the wiimote, like in Zelda with a sword. This wears your arm out fast. My major complaint is the lack of a spin jump. The only way Sonic can kill enemies is to jump when they're off in the distance, then home in on them. If you don't see an enemy until you're almost on them, you're out of luck.

Multi-player: I tried a bit of Treasure Hunt, and while the mini-games were fun in small doses, it just went on and on. I got to Round 11 with no immediate end in sight, so I just cut it off.

Bottom Line: Must have title for anyone looking for a innovative platformer, or just a good Sonic game.

Indded, that guy should move to Calefornia and grace Viz and Funimation's Dubs with his amazing voice of amazing.

So did anyone actually get this game?

I did. Controls are a bit tricky to master, but otherwise a fun game. Just got to Levitated Ruins. It's amazing.

Music is awful, though seven songs are on my hard drive. Three are so bad they're good and four are decent. Everything else = ear bleed.

Any chance you can mute the in-game music?

As for the reviews, considering how genuinely bad all of Sega's previous attempts at this have been, you can hardly blame people for expecting to hate this one as well.

That said, has anybody who's not and out-and-out Sonic fanboy weighed in, yet? I'm curious to hear from someone who wasn't going to buy this whether it sucked or not.

nuttyturnip Mar 5, 2007 08:55 AM

I'm not a Sega fanboy, and I weighed in. I've played up to the 3rd world (factory) since my post, and my opinion mostly stays the same. The music has gotten noticably worse, since it's really unbearable on the 2nd and 3rd worlds. Control is tricky in places, but once you get the hang of it, it's ok. I'd still recommend buying this game, if only for the novelty.

garthvadr3 Mar 5, 2007 02:02 PM

I am not a sega fanboy at all and I like this game. It is simple but challenging as hell. It has great graphics and it is very fun. Don't overlook this one as just another 3d sonic game cause it is far different than any previous 3d sonic attepmts and is closer to its roots than the other 3d Sonics. I recommend getting this game if you have a Wii, even if the music blows asschunks.

You see, this is where they should have borrowed from BIG DAMN TRUCKS' in-game music selection from the SD card. I'm still on World 2, but I'm really enjoying the experience.

garthvadr3 Mar 24, 2007 05:26 PM

well as of about 5 minutes ago I have officially finished all of the challenges in the game. I have not scored gold or even silvers on all of them but I have pretty much at least a bronze on all except maybe the last levels perfect challenge. And I do have a lot of gold and silver medals toward the first few boards. Anyone else finish all the challenges yet in this game?

my most memorable one was the perfect challenge on the pirate level where you can't get hit by anything and they are throwing cannon fire and spike balls at you the whole time. My wii-mote almost went through the window on this one. The final levels perfect challenge almost sent my wii-mote flying too but I was able to hold back. So I sucked it up and just finished the damn thing really carefully and slowly w/o a medal.

VitaPup Mar 24, 2007 08:20 PM

I don't know, this game kind of bores me. The levels i've been to so far are kind of tiny and there are only so many meaningless tasks like "kill 5 enemies" or "collect 99 rings" I can handle in a sitting. Outside of the graphics, I don't think this game has much to brag about.

thats about how i feel.

Ive also put to much time in this friggin game. Trying to gold medal all levels....blech....ill pass on that.

I did gold erazor Djjinn though so im set.

garthvadr3 Mar 25, 2007 01:56 PM

yea, some of the freaking challenges, like the later perfect challenges are too damn frustrating to try and get golds on. But I have had a lot of fun with this game even with the frustration. At least it isn't a pushover game like most 3d games nowadays.

Kairi Li Apr 10, 2007 04:49 AM

I'm not sure if the Wiimote needs new batteries or the sensor is faulty, but I just started the game and Sonic isn't responsive at all. I know its hard initially, but it seems like Sonic isn't responding to where Im tilting, I tilt right, he goes left. Or doesn't move at all.

How do you tilt it properly?

EDIT: BAH! Never mind! I WAS HOLDING IT WRONG!

You'd think they TELL you how to hold it before you start the game, I assumed it was the remote control pose. Bad part on Sega. This isn't a PS2 controller where there's only ONE way to hold it. >_<

And god the music, if there's only a way to mute it...

Infernal Monkey Apr 10, 2007 05:00 AM

It shows you how to hold it on the title screen! :tpg:

Kairi Li Apr 10, 2007 05:14 AM

Weird.... It didn't on mine, did I skip it by accident?

Infernal Monkey Apr 10, 2007 05:35 AM

Oh wai-

Yeah, I don't blame you for not noticing that crappy little icon. I thought it was much bigger when I first played. Maybe I'm thinking of exciting big damn trucks title screen or something.

Kairi Li Apr 10, 2007 07:47 AM

That thing? I thought it was some ancient Arabian relic symbol or something artistic.... O_O And I was pressing the start button really quickly... The "the controller is used sideways" warning was more obvious when I was quitting the party games and it popped up.

garthvadr3 Apr 10, 2007 08:11 AM

lol ancient arabic symbol...
Can't really blame you for pressing the start button really quickly to get past the menu music......blech its awful.

Somehow the singer is the same guy that sings for Yoko Kanno on most of her soundtracks (cowboy bebop, ghost in the shell, wolf's Rain) I have listened over and over and I still can't believe it is him.
